The fact that what started The Haunting Of Bly Manor was Viola Lloyd and all her anger and her spite and her selfishness and her possessiveness mistaken for manifestations of love.

Viola, who was unwilling to allow her disease to take away her life so stubbornly to the point that death stopped coming to her house. The fact that Peter Quint died taken by the lady in the lake and dragged Rebecca down with him and that every aspect of their relationship was based on possession.

The fact that Dani faced the same choice but didn't even consider for one second putting Jamie's life at risk. The fact that Jamie wanted to go down with her, but Dani refused to do so. The fact that every aspect of their relationship was based on love.

And the fact that that is what broke the curse.

"You guys pointed out to me that this is the thirteenth year of me putting out albums, which is my lucky number and so I figured, like, we've gotta do something. And I was thinking about the concept of it having been thirteen years since my first album came out, and so I thought maybe something… it would be cool to do something sort of retrospective. The only way you can actually have an accurate representation of what it was like when you were going through something, is if you were to have written about it at the exact time you were going through it. And I don't know if uh, if I've really talked to you guys about this, or anything, but I've been writing in diaries since I was thirteen years old, and I've written about pretty much everything that's happened to me, um, and you know, I've written my original lyrics in those diaries, um, just feelings, you know? Uh, lessons, things you go through, and that's been one of my ways of coping with things. I need to either write songs or write something in order to like, process life."

And now that you've answered that, why not sit back and enjoy a brief history of the American Revolution:

First, the Seven Years War happens. It's mostly thought of as having been fought in Europe, but a campaign (not that kind) is also fought in North America. It is called "The French and Indian War" by the locals.

Britain wins the war against France, and subsequently gets the rights to all land east of the Mississippi river.

Colonialists start moving onto native land, probably with a lot of aggression and arrogance. This is ok so far as Britain is concerned, because they assume that the colonialists can play nice with the natives.

That is not the case. As such, the natives push back against them. 500+ colonialists die during this conflict.

Britain realizes that the colonialists CAN'T play nice and forbids them from going west of Appalachian mountains. Troops are sent to enforce this. Taxes are raised to support the troops, levied mostly on the colonies because they're the reason this mess exists at all.

Wealthy Land / Business Owners get frustrated by Britain imposing its will on the colonies and disallowing them from spreading West. Sure, taxes are bad, but it probably wasn't the little folks paying the lion's share of them, except insofar as the fees associated with them are concerned, but you pay sales taxes, so you know that heavy toll already.

Unhappy working class colonialists don't like paying those extra fees, like any USAmerican doesn't like, but this dislike is further stoked into unhappiness via propaganda until war is inevitable.

France, convinced by wealthy colonialists, backs to revolution as a "fuck you" to Britain ("We can't have land in the Americas? Fine. You don't get your precious colonies, either")

America is born! If you're a wealthy white man you're free to do whatever! Otherwise you can fuck off.

Imperialist conquest of the continent begins in earnest ("but really it's just our Manifest Destiny to control the whole continent so it's alright").

Ultimately, if they don't benefit the wealthy, any establishment of rights in USAmerica regarding a disenfranchised group only happens after massive civil disruption.

Said rights are never seen as good by the establishment, only as the necessary price for keeping/restoring the peace.

For Example:

The north fought the civil war to keep the south in the union. The south fought the civil war to keep their slaves.

If Lincoln hadn't been killed and his VP hadn't bungled things as much as he did, there would be no amendment regarding slavery, it would be a purely legislative matter, not a constitutional one.

This means that, if Lincoln lived, we'd need to worry about republicans overturning anti-slavery laws too, in addition to everything else.

the most insane thing about being a veteran taylor fan is that we've literally watched her grow up? i know people say this all the time but i have such cognitive dissonance in my head that i've forgotten that we saw her at 18 years old, being picked on by critics, getting overly excited at awards shows, dating some random guys...like the interviews of her from even ten years ago are this little girl with a high pitched voice going on about how she hid away in her room to write on her guitar and i totally forgot that That Taylor existed??? part of what got me interested in her in the first place is that she was a few years older than me but she was just being herself! writing songs about high school! making dumb jokes and being goofy and loving music! she was just another girl and she was my best friend and she wasn't the best new artist, she was just taylor.

now she's this big spectacle, a thing that people feel entitled to, and she's grown into this Woman who has handled so much scrutiny in her career only to continue to be one of the most successful, most celebrated, most talked about celebrities of our generation. if not, THE most. i think we all knew when we first found her that this is what she would become, but to watch her change from a random country teenager into someone who has broken nearly every record she can in an industry that is (financially) dying is absolutely mind-blowing when you think about where she started and where she was when i first started listening to her.

and what's so frustrating i think about people who are only just now becoming fans is that they either ignored that part of her career, partook in the universal hatred of her during that part of her career, or just straight up were not old enough to be present during that part of her career. which doesn't make them good or bad fans, they just will never understand what it was like to be someone around her age watching her field this fame while also growing up and becoming who she's meant to be! like i get it, you love would've could've should've, but do you understand how absolutely inSANE that track is in the context of her career and her life and our relationship to that? were you there when she Called Out John Mayer by Name in a seven minute song about how he low-key groomed her while mimicking his guitar on an album she wrote by herself at 19 just because a man was mean to her and said she couldn't write songs?

there are so many moments like that in her career, things that she did that absolutely Changed the Game and were a big deal and now compared to her recent successes, they're almost forgotten about. she's broken so many records and done so many things that now her successes from the beginning of her career are almost negligible. sometimes when i stop and think too hard about where she started and who she was and how much she's grown...it makes me wanna throw up
