these came to me in a dream
there is a thought process behind every single one of my choices and it’s under the cut
Sonic - Sailor Moon - duh, this is sonic and sailor moon were talking abt
Tails - Sailor Mercury - both r very smart and technologically advanced lol
Knuckles - Sailor Mars - red. also bc usagi and rei (moon and mars respectively) r rlly big rivals lmao
Amy - Sailor Venus - they have VERY similar personalities, she’s besties w jupiter, minako (venus) wants to be an idol rlly bad and amy has that energy
Metal Sonic - Sailor Jupiter - both have electricity related to them, Metal Sonic + Amy r besties just like Jupiter and Venus cmon you know it’s true, also bc Jupiter is known for her unfathomable strength similar to how Metal is unfathomably strong in reference to sonic bc. yk.
Shadow - Sailor Saturn - THIS IS RLLY RLLY RLLY FLESHED OUT IN MY HEAD SINCE THEYRE BOTH MY FAVORITES LOL, both r seen as “ultimate lifeforms” in a way, shadow being in cryosleep for years and saturn being “forbidden to awaken due to her being the soldier of death”, hotaru and shadow were both in some way scientifically created, hotaru and shadow r both the children of (mad) scientists, shadow being gerald and hotaru being PROFESSOR FUCKING TOMOE, both had a rlly traumatic event alter the course of their life, and both died tragically, were reborn, and have a found family after being reborn, shadow being team dark and saturn being uranus neptune and pluto
Rouge - Sailor Uranus - rouge arguably COULD have been neptune but she lacks the grace that neptune has , and i feel like overall she suits uranus waaay more
Silver - Sailor Pluto - pluto is the soldier of fucking time why do you think she’s silver
Blaze - Sailor Neptune - blaze has that grace that rouge kinda lacks in regards to neptune, plus blaze and neptune r rlly similar in vibes, and i think it would be ironic to see blaze do a deep submerge lol
i am insane

exo - exist review
i just wanna start by saying that this comeback is the highlight of my year already. i did have high expectations because after all, this is exo and their discography is easily at the top of the entire industry... and for groups that debuted over a decade ago they're one of the last still standing, so after a 4 year old hiatus the expectations were high to say the least. did they manage to meet them? let's find out!
the title track deserves a whole paragraph so:
cream soda - a high paced r&b pop song with a luscious instrumental and a collection of high notes that flex the strengths of the group. it definitely packs a punch and i think it would benefit from getting a slower intro but even so, the song doesn't disappoint. it kinda reminds me of a maroon 5 song during their golden years and i think it's the perfect balance of "grown men r&b" and playfulness (coupled with less than subtle sexual innuendos about popping like a soda bottle this is a great evolution for exo, who have been known to always make pussy popping music but have struggled to shed the high school boys image sm is so fixated on giving them). rating: 9/10
regret it - literally straight out of the pcy1 vault and you can't convince me otherwise. soooo happy to hear an r&b jam straight out of the 90s since that is literally exo's blueprint. i love the production on this track because it has enough elements to keep it interesting and the chorus is super catchy. chanyeol takes the crown for me for obvious biased reasons but i love kyungsoo and jongdae's runs in this. rating: 10/10
hear me out - sounds much better like this. like now i get 100% the reasoning behind this song and the style it has. it's really such a chill vibe and a welcome breather after the one two punch of the previous songs. i feel like the prechorus and post chorus of this song could have been amped up way more and a breakdown for the bridge would've made it ten times more fun tho. rating: 9/10
random observation i noticed: the resting silences between songs are a tad too short for my liking. we need to let this marinate and sometimes it does feel like the album is sprinting towards the end.
private party - chanyeol opening the song AS HE FUCKING SHOULD. this beat is nasty... it's the perfect combination of exo's r&b sultry side and a hot sexy beat to shake ass to. it's just fun and good and takes you on a sonic ride from start to finish. i did expect the weeknd vibes from the title alone but i'm glad with the result here. rating: 10/10
cinderella - oh marz. oh you.... i knew exactly what the beat drop was gonna sound like from the second the song started and i'm not mad about it! this is another old school r&b infused serenade song while giving it a fresh modern style with the synth arrangements. taking a point off just because the mixing is too compressed and the synth takes over the landscape in an overbearing way (happens all the time with flume too so i get it but i feel like this could've been prevented here). rating: 9/10
no makeup - okay so the whore music run of this album from private party to no makeup is insane. we get it. these men fuck. they made sure to let us know they're in their 30s and it was about DAMN time. that post that's like they melted their dick and balls into a flashdrive and fucked the console in the recording studio.... yeah. the background harmonies are TOP TIER too but i didn't expect anything less from exo. props to jongdae, minseok and chanyeol cause they were working overtime layering these vocals. rating: 10/10
love fool - deadass was expecting this to be the slower snoozefest of the album... but exo are intent on making every track off this album COUNT. this is such a classic exo jam... every element of this song works in their favor. great melody, great instrumentals, great topline, great chorus. this is PURE quintessential exo. rating: 10/10
another day - this is good song! a great song even. my notes for this one just say "good song. really like it" it's just not something that stuck out to me enough to analyze it further. i think that's fine. the layering of vocals is once again great. i don't love the topline specially for the chorus (feels super nct 127 past their peak) but it's still a good song. rating: 8/10
let me in - this is their boyz ii men serve of the year. perfect closer. perfect slow ballad and i'm not a fan of those in the first place. definitely the vocal highlight of the album. that's all i can say. exo did it once again kids. rating: 9/10

For the question thing - tails and all of them!(or the ones you like)💛
Ooh, that's a long one. Okay! Let's see
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. I love him.
2. His unwavering determination and loyalty and trust in his big brother
3. Whatever the fuck was happening in Forces
4. Same as I answered for Sonic
Edit: I wrote responses to all the rest of the questions (detailed for a few questions too) but they got deleted so I'll shorten them.
5. Blood Bonds by Nathan Wagner, Believe in Myself, Gold by Owl City, Fly With Me from Sonic and Tails R.
6. My tendency to make things for my friends as gifts instead of just buying a gift
7. When fandom makes him everyone's little brother. Everybody adores Tails.
8. Shipping. With anyone. That is a child! He's 8!
9. Both yes and no. I adore him but kid would activate my maternal instincts and get lectured for soooo many things
10. Who could not be best friends with Tails?
11, 15, 16, 17. Please no! That is a CHILD! JUST NO.
12. When he's too tired and eepy to be coherent, he stumbles to wherever his brother is sitting or sleeping and burrows in next to Sonic without even realizing it.
13. 🥺🍪🚀🪛🔧🍬🛩️🛩️🦊🌌☺️😕 (Thank goodness for recent emojis)
14. Form fitting full sleeved jacket or hoodie with texted t-shirt, a satchel that has a lot of enamel pins and shoes with laces that match the jacket. Or just pilot jacket and goggles.
18. Mom, Dad and Picket Fence my beloved, you know the one.
19. His relationship with Shadow. I hate how it's often portrayed in canon. They have so much in common, let them be friends!
20. I believe we already know the answer to that question
Tumblr media
21. I love writing him as both sassy and babey, giving him the little brother vibes. And also using his body language and movements of his ears and tails to be expressive of his thoughts and emotions and reactions. What I don't like is torturing him. Like, it's cool when it's mild whump followed by comfort but I draw a line at torturing him, that's a plain big No for me, my inner Sonic gets very angry and upset when Tails is continuously physically and mentally tortured.
22. When he's allowed to act his age! I love it. I also love it when he's written to show fox traits and when it's clear who raised him, Tails getting reckless and impatient and quipping at his enemies etc.. And I don't like when he tortured too much, like I said, it doesn't sit right with me. And also when he is written as too mature, not letting him banter or be reckless and excited about little things. (Basically in combination of both these questions, Tails for me is not the torture-him-blorbo, he's the so-precious-protect-him-at-all-costs blorbo)
23. Pick one
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
24. TMNT '12 Donnie. And Hiccup.
25. Then: Adorable fluffy genius child!
Now: Adorable fluffy sassy genius child
....
This marks all the questions about Tails. I won't answer any more character asks about him except the last one which is "Freebie question"

Initial Thoughts on TXT's Minisode 3: Tomorrow
Tumblr media
Overall I think this album sounded the most sonically cohesive from their entire discography so far! I haven't read the articles about the album yet but it seems like they've deviated a bit from their usual approach of exploring different genres in a single album and kinda stuck to more of a band sound this time around?
Sure, they experiment with layers and singing styles but I’ve really felt (and liked!) the band influence across the different tracks!
The way the music builds in each track is delightful albeit seems a wee predictable. I am a sucker for a good guitar and bassline though so this album suited my tastes
Currently (and surprisingly) my favorite track upon first listen would probably be Deja Vu (Anemoia Remix)! I honestly wished the remix ver would have been the title track instead 🥺
The original ver is probably more palatable for general population though and lends itself better to their type of choreography than the Anemoia remix would so I understand why the title track is so.
My favorite track off this album would likely change after I’ve read through the lyric translations and give the album a few more listens.
If I’m being honest, I think this album would be more of a slow burn type of in terms of how quickly it grows on me, compared to their earlier releases (particularly Temptation and Freefall).
I’ve genuinely enjoyed these tracks! But I can’t say that I loved the album and I think a factor in my tempered response to Minisode 3 is just how short they all are!! 😩
The entire (mini) album’s duration is just 17 minutes for 7 tracks!! It felt like just as I was getting into the groove and spirit of the track, it just… ends 🥲 IMO, these shorter track durations may end up hurting them in the long run as they sacrifice the listening experience for convenience of streaming 😔
That said, it makes Deja Vu an impressive feat that it has such a cinematic and immersive feel, and done in less than 3 minutes!
In any case, I will be listening to these tracks more and am looking forward to catch their performances throughout this comeback!
If you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading and i’d love to hear your thoughts too!
If you want to see my raw thoughts for each track, you can find them below the cut!
Track 1: I'll See You There Tomorrow
yes lower register TXT let's gooooo
sounds like a video game bg music? haha
ooh when the music built up it got funky

that's a morse code alright....
Track 3: Deja Vu
ok technically not a first listen since i've watched the MV already but here we go anyway!!
the high pitched warpy sound at the start -- i like it
this feels like R&B-ish?
their verses seem almost spoken than sung
different from how they usually are
the little music break after the first chorus, mhmm
that clarity was delicious
this song feels so... ambient? if that makes sense
like there's a distant thunderstorm almost?
and the sirens blaring??
THIS SONG SOUNDS LIKE AN ENTIRE MOVIE??????
and they did that with a 2:51 duration ??
Track 4: Miracle (A miracle happens at every moment that you and I are together)
really liking the piano
ooh the build up of the instrumentals
EYYYYYYYYY
leaked image of me listening to this track
oooh it got rock band-y
oh this would be AMAZING to hear live!!
ugh the harmonizing in the second verse/pre-chorus YES 😩

OH SHIT THE GUITAR IS HITTINNGGGGGGG

Track 5: The Killa (I Belong to You)
sexy start okayyyy

OH WHAT THE FUCK
EXCUSE ME THE HARMONIZING???????????
DEADDDDDD
oh this range and style suits Soobin so well??
mhmmm the adlibssss
i swear those harmonies will be the death of me
the guitarrrrrrrrr 😩
Track 6: Quarter Life
istg the instrumentals are so good here
band txt is one of my fave genres
*head bops*
the build up is delicious
oh i'll bet kai enjoyed this one haha
LET'S GO BEOMGYUUUUUU
whoever thought of putting the maknaes together for this track is a genius
another great song to hear live
claiming this as Beomgyu's song bc wow
THAT WAS TOO SHORT WTF 😭
Track 7: Deja Vu (Anemoia Remix)
THE GUITAR!!!!!!
WHY CAN'T THIS HAVE BEEN THE ORIGINAL VERSION
PLEASE LET US HAVE BAND TXT AS THE MAIN CONCEPT NEXT TIME 😭
ugh i can't resist a good bassline
wtf i swear we were robbed that this is just a remix and not the original song 😭
THE ADLIBS!!!!!!!!!
SING IT TERRYYYYY
WTF THIS IS A ROBBERY FRRRRRR 😭
pls let this listing be an April Fools joke and this is actual the title track 🥹

5 Songs I'm Into Right Now
Thanks to @riftdancing for the tag! I love talking about music so this was perfect :)
1. acloudyskye - Surface
I decided to check out this album after seeing it pop up in RYM's new music since I'd heard one of acloudyskye's previous albums, and this song just sunk its hooks into me and won't let go. That guitar line. The piano chords backing it up. The production. The lyrics. The vocal delivery. The vibes. The main guitar riff and the chorus ("If you're there, can you hear it?/They're shooting flares in the distance/They won't find a trace of us/We'll be gone when morning comes") both live in my head rent free. This is a song that ends a character playlist I'm working on, and that spot is well earned.
2. 2hollis - all 2s
Fitting to go at number 2, I stumbled on this while trying to find more electroclash in the vein of Justice and decided to give it a spin. That first 30 seconds or so is what grabbed me: the simple synth line & choppy vocals that becomes a Wall of Noise after 16 bars. Don't know what it is about it, but that kinda noise just scratches some part of my brain the right way, and this song does it like few else. The synths in this are also fun, and I love the hype energy this has. Just a banger.
3. Fever Dolls - Gennifer Flowers
You can blame @reversalsun for this one, I got it from their playlist for one of their OCs (Anja, the one I made a drink for, as it happens), and it's wormed its way right into my brain. I love the very "theatrical" delivery of the verses with a lot of meat to unpack in the lyrics that's counterbalanced by the shouted chorus: "And if I've got the power to take it (got the power to fake it)/Gennifer Flowers got the power to shake her debasement". Basically, I wanna see the musical this is from, and the fact this band has only a handful of singles is a crime. Thanks Sam!
4. The Hives - Tick Tick Boom
A classic garage rock tune that made its way onto a playlist I put together for Lehon'a's time in Shadowbringers. In my head this soundtracks the final fight with Emet-Selch, with Lehon'a lording her superiority over Emet in the lyrics: "Yeah, I was right all along/Yeah, you were tagging along/Exhibit A: on a tray, what you say as I throw it in your face/Exhibit B: what you see, well it's me I put you back in your place". And that main guitar riff and the iconic "tick tick tick tick tick tick tick BOOM" where everything cuts out just make this song.
5. The 8-Bit Big Band - Can You Feel The Sunshine? (originally from Sonic R)
This one is YouTuber Adam Neely's fault. I decided to rewatch his video on how Video Game Music has spawned its own jazz scene and how it fits into the culture of jazz at large, and this is one of the songs that he helps perform. Just from the snippets in the video, the main hook managed to get trapped in my brain, and now I'm obsessed. The original song is a fantastic eurobeat adjacent track, but this jazz version just adds some extra spice. I especially love the vocalist really showing off towards the end of the number. Highly recommend watching the YouTube video which shows all the performers in the studio playing (and the Adam Neely video too), it's super cool!
Tagging (though no pressure to do it if you're busy or otherwise don't wanna): @reversalsun @zylphiacrowley @ga-keaton @ferrocyan @gatheredfates and any other passers-by who wanna share some cool tunes!

I know this is a magical girl blog, but since you've mentioned indie games, I wanna know which ones are your faves? I assume the list isn't a big one, considering how you dislike horror games...
Pizza Tower (has Horror elements, but it's overrall bonkers and with a bitchin' soundtrack! An update with The Noise as a playable character is in the works!);
AntonBall (and its upcoming sequel, AntonBlast, which it's more close to the Wario Land 4 experience than Pizza Tower);
Captain Wayne: Vacation Desperation (it's not out yet, but it's basically DOOM combined with One Piece);
Freedom Planet (I like how it started off as a SonicTH hack, only for it to grow into its own thing. Things get intense in the sequel!);
Spookware (WarioWare but spooky! And with graphics similar to Paper Mario, too!)
Thunder Ray (it's Punch-Out!! but waaay more intense! Like Shonen manga kind of intense!);
Fight Knight (DOOM combined with Punch-Out!! Also has an intense Shonen manga vibe);
Cosmic Boll (A colorful Beat 'Em Up with Sonic-y designs. Most likely discontinued/cancelled);
Kyle & Lucy: Wonderland (Yet another game with Sonic-y aesthetics and gameplay, combined with Felix the Cat. Looks like it has been discontinued/cancelled, sadly);
Friday Night Funkin' (the fact that this game has managed to help Newgrounds stay relevant after the death of Flash is quite an amazing feat!);
Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore (What if CD-i Zelda were its own original thing? And what if it were actually good?);
Pulling No Punches/Punhos de Repúdio (this one's brazilian! A Beat 'Em Up where you fight against antivaxxers with Bolsonaro as the Final Boss!);
Spark the Electric Jester (Sonic, Kirby and Ristar all combined into one);
Hazelnut Hex (a short but sweet Cute 'Em Up);
In Stars and Time (a monochromatic RPG about being stuck in a timeloop);
Cavern of Dreams (N64-styled Collectathon where you play as a cute baby dragon);
Super Lesbian Animal RPG (used to be a MLP fangame, but had to be altered due to copyright issues);
Them's Fighting Herds (same as SLARPG, but as a 1vs1 Fighting Game à la SkullGirls);
My Friendly Neighborhood (okay, this one's actually Horror, but it has heart and passion put into it);
Cuphead (the amount of dedication and research put into the old-timey visuals is admirable. Even the Netflix series is stylish!);
Hades (the Greek Mythos kid in me V I B R A T E S);
Berserk Boy (Mega-Man lookalike with soundtrack composed by Tee Lopes!);
Penny's Big Breakaway (by the Sonic Mania devs! And Tee Lopes works on the tunes, too!);
Undertale (well, duh. Deltarune didn't captivated me as much, though...);
Hollow Knight (not a big fan of MetroidVanias, but this one's got beautiful visuals);
Melatonin (think Rhythm Heaven, but dreamier, pastel-colored and more grounded in reality).
And that's all I have so far right now. Might update this list if I remember something else!

Yeah, these takeovers are the equivalent of those "Ask a Character" panels you see at conventions. Just a fun romp for the VAs to interact with fans. They can get just as silly and nonsensical.
They're not meant be taken at face value. (The fact the Q&A's from the Japanese side of the fandom has a different vibe and approach; generally tries stay close to IC as possible but you do get things like Sonic and Tails singing happy birthday to Eggman, should be indicative that you shouldn't take these things as 100% definitive proof of anything. Food for thought, maybe. But it's non-consequential content that has no hold on the games or its characters; or at least, it SHOULD be treated as such. :P)
I already acknowledged that, though. I said that I'm aware they're not meant to be super-serious or taken as "canon" in the same way that a game installment would be taken as such.
But what's the point in asking the characters questions if they're not even in-character? They might as well be anyone in that case. I get it's probably for the sake of the lulz, but couldn't you get plenty of humor out of them while they're in-character? Or would that be too R E S T R I C T I V E?
And while humor is obviously subjective, a lot of it just isn't that funny IMO. The only part I recall actually laughing at was when they all fumbled through the macarena, but otherwise? Some of this stuff would be shot on sight and be made the centerpiece of a Downfall of Sonic rant video on YouTube if it were featured in a Pontaff game, and while some might say "well yeah, this is non-canon fluff, it's not a game!", let's be real, we know it'd be accepted if it showed up in Frontiers. And then there's the newest takeover pandering to the Eggman Loves Sage crowd, because y'know, it's not like I already doubted the validity of Flynn's "he totally doesn't love her even though the game takes every opportunity it can to aggressively insist otherwise, pls believe me" claims.

There's also a TONNNN of sonic.exe retrospective videos out there that talk about the popularity boost it had because of F//N//F ( which , even if i do Not fw the base game , i'm going to admit the mod that made all of this happen , while UNFINISHED , was pretty damn good in terms of sprites and music. highly recommend the VS. Sonic.EXE ost if you want absolute bops as well as The Chaos Series & the Hoggy Holidays mod (which is so fuckin cute im gonna eat Drywall) . :3 ) , so if you're real interested and wanna get a small grasp on who all im talking about i hope these are good starting points !!!!! :O

Today's compilation:
Hed Kandi: Disco Kandi 2000 House / Garage House / Nu-Disco
Good God, what a terrific pair of discs here from the ever-consistent dance comp label Hed Kandi. With this first ever installment in their Disco Kandi series, the UK outfit supplies a steady stream of ephemeral house bangers from the late 90s and 2000, with a lot of the selections sounding contemporary, but also managing to channel an invigorating old-school disco spirit too. And many of these glitz-glammy, high-quality productions also collectively continue to progress from the sonic tradition that first started in famed New York DJ Larry Levan's Paradise Garage nightclub in the late 70s, where he nurtured a more vocally soulful and R&B-rooted house sound into the late 80s that would come to be known simply as 'garage.' And after the Paradise Garage's closure, that garage sound would find popularity at a club in New Jersey called Zanzibar too, where Tony Humphries would continue to spin it.
Now, despite a few of these tracks having somewhat remarkably high YouTube play counts, all of them were and still are definitely underground; that is, except for one. And this particular tune that I'm referring to wasn't just mainstream, but it really managed to lace the hell out of a lot of US contemporary hit radio stations back in the late 90s, even though it only ended up peaking at #52 on the Billboard Hot 100, overall. Basically, if you tuned into your local pop or more dance-oriented station on anything close to a regular basis back then, there's almost no way that you could've avoided one-off supertrio Stars on 54's cover of Gordon Lightfoot's 1970 soft folk-rock classic, "If You Could Read My Mind," which saw Amber, Jocelyn Enriquez, and Ultra Naté teaming up to record a song for the soundtrack to the disco period flick, 54. Really classic radio gold right there that a lot of people probably haven't thought about in a long while.
And then just as you're finished reminiscing on whatever fond memories you might hold that are associated with that particular song, quite possibly the most impressive track of all within this two-disc set ends up directly following it: the Matthew Roberts and Richard Fite remix of Eclipse's "Makes Me Love You." This one has a big, sun-shining pool party vibe to it, as it combines lustrous disco strings, funkily plucked guitar, a fuzzy-thick corrugated bassline, and piano keys, all while employing a lovely filter technique, which is that really popular thing that house musicians got to doing around this time period, in which certain elements sound distant and submerged, and as they continuously loop, keep sounding closer and clearer, until they satisfyingly breach the surface and hit their glorious peak. And that's maybe my favorite type of house music in the whole world 😊.
So, a really enjoyable way to spend over two and a half hours here, with a hefty dose of  super sleek house tunes, a lot of which are on a nu-disco and garage tip. And it was collected by the always seemingly on point Hed Kandi label too, which has never steered me wrong before!

BY MIKAEL WOOD
Taylor Swift’s pin-sharp new album, “Midnights,” closes with a song in which the pop superstar patiently explains to someone — perhaps many millions of someones — that their intimate relationship wasn’t a product of kismet but of design.
“I laid the groundwork,” she sings over a blippy electronic groove, her voice edging slightly ahead of the beat, “and then just like clockwork the dominoes cascaded in a line.” The tune is called “Mastermind,” which is what Swift calls herself in the chorus, neatly rhyming the word with “now you’re mine.” And plenty of its characteristic detail can make you think she’s describing a romance. But “Mastermind” is also about Swift’s one-of-a-kind career — about the deliberation and the ingenuity of the moves that took the 32-year-old from being a teenage country phenom to being one of the two or three biggest acts in all of music.
“No one wanted to play with me as a little kid,” she sings near the end of “Mastermind,” which might be the saddest and funniest line on an LP teeming with both kinds, “so I’ve been scheming like a criminal ever since to make them love me and make it seem effortless.” (Take a second to savor the intricate rhythm of those words before you’ve even heard them set to music.)
Pondering the delights and the anxieties of her own celebrity has been a hallmark of Swift’s work for years — or at least it was until 2020, when she set aside much of the autobiographical life-of-a-pop-star stuff for the ostensibly fictional character-driven narratives of her twin pandemic albums, “Folklore” and “Evermore.” Full of songs about small-town grifters and awkward high-school kids and unhappily married people — even a murderer — those projects also radically recast her sound, veering away from the synthed-up productions that sent her up the Hot 100 toward a rootsy, mostly acoustic vibe she formulated with Aaron Dessner of the indie-rock band the National.
Swift suggested that the isolation of the pandemic had set her imagination free; certainly, the music’s smaller scale reflected the demands of remote collaboration. Yet “Midnights,” her 10th studio full-length, returns to an earlier Swift mode in both sonic and lyrical terms: This 13-track set, which she produced with her longtime creative partner Jack Antonoff, feels like it picks up right where 2014’s “1989” and 2017’s “Reputation” left off, with slick, beat-heavy arrangements that seem dimly aware of hip-hop’s existence and with lyrics peppered with juicy allusions to Swift’s various high-profile feuds and love affairs. (“Lover,” from 2019, plays even more now than it did then like a transitional effort between phases of Swift’s career.)
It’s easy in a sense to understand why she took this approach, given that she spent 2021 rerecording her albums “Fearless” and “Red” as part of a plan to create new versions of the LPs she lost partial control of when her old record label changed hands. As meticulous a diarist as pop has ever known, Swift has clearly been thinking — thinking more than usual — about her journey and about her younger selves; “Nothing New,” one of many freshly recorded outtakes she included on “Red (Taylor’s Version),” captures a woman in her 30s confronting her 20-something suspicions about how her chosen industry would treat her as she aged out of ingénue-hood.
“Midnights” opens with the steamy, R&B-adjacent “Lavender Haze,” in which Swift laments the scrutiny she’s under as a famous person dating another famous person (in her case, the English actor Joe Alwyn); the song — co-written by and featuring background vocals from the actress Zoë Kravitz — seeks a safe space removed from a realm where her loose talk threatens to “go viral,” as she puts it. In “Anti-Hero,” over Antonoff’s buzzing synths and booming ’80s-rock drums, she weighs the public’s harshest opinions of her, copping to a “covert narcissism” and admitting that sometimes she feels like “a monster on the hill … slowly lurching toward your favorite city.”
The vicious and shimmering “Karma” seemingly takes aim at the powerful music executive Scooter Braun, who engineered the label purchase that spawned Swift’s rerecording enterprise: “Spiderboy, king of thieves / Weave your little webs of opacity,” she sings — heed the conspicuous “S” and “B” in “Spiderboy” — before describing what she views as her cosmic advantage with a series of vivid metaphors: “Karma is my boyfriend / Karma is a god / Karma is the breeze in my hair on the weekend.” The breeze in her hair on the weekend! Good night, Spiderboy.
Swift’s storytelling impulse isn’t dead on “Midnights,” which she’s said grew out of her bent toward wee-hours contemplation. “Midnight Rain,” a slow and woozy number with pitch-shifted vocals, narrates a tale of a guy and a girl with differing life goals, neither of whom appear to be Swift or Alwyn; ditto “Maroon,” in which the guy and girl get drunk off her roommate’s “cheap-ass screw-top rosé.” Then there’s the pulpy, Billie Eilish-ish “Vigilante S—,” about a woman who helps a betrayed wife get revenge on her dirtbag husband.
Yet the songwriting and the vocal performances here are so strong — she’s playing with cadence and emphasizing the grain of her voice like never before — that eventually you stop caring what’s drawn directly from Swift’s real life and what’s not. It’s just a pleasure to get lost in tunes like “Labyrinth,” in which the singer explores her fear of falling in love again, and “Snow on the Beach,” a gorgeous duet with Lana Del Rey with some of the album’s most affecting imagery: “My smile is like I won a contest,” Swift sings in regards to a surprising new fling, and that’s all you need to conjure the precise picture in your head.
She paints another indelible picture in “Mastermind,” referring to herself as “the wind in our free-flowing sails” just after she offers a bit of context for why she’s been so thoroughgoing in her interactions with her boyfriend (or her audience). “All the wisest women had to do it this way ’cause we were born to be the pawn in every lover’s game,” she sings. Then she takes a breath and adds: “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” Only Swift could make a self-help slogan sound like a fairy tale.

what do ur moots remind you of?! (ex. places, color, song, etc)
lissie: hey anon! sorry for the late reply! I'll try my best to answer your question because this will be long...
@kookthief : the setting summer sun that is a body of ocean away going down beyond the horizon from where you can see from the beach. maybe because ellie has mentioned the summer i turn pretty tons of times, seeing photos of the sunset by a beach reminds me of her!
@ujunxverse: the strobing lights in a small concert venue where an alternative rock band is playing. viv's music taste and little mentions of music she listens to give me recommendations for more artists to listen to in the future. i also realize that our music taste venn diagram is more connected than i realized (cassiopea, have a nice life, radiohead, etc)
@heartandfangs: the narrow aisle of a warm-colored old bookstore. i think because of how amazingly P writes her stories it makes me think of that. one shelf is apocalyptic (the world ends with you) and another is erotica (i owe you and not if it's you)
@euphor1a: the smell of freshly baked vanilla cake in a pastel bakery on the corner of the street block. i mentioned to aleyna how she reminded me of sugar cookies before. with this, i'm expanding what i said before to the whole bakery :D
@jeongwins: an aesthetic-looking list on letterboxd. i know it seems random, but the way lin writes reviews for fics they recommend is how a film critic writes a review for a movie. in a way, it also shows the people what kind of fics they like and how others can expect from the fics by their reviews, just like how people on letterboxd make list for movies they like aesthetically or story wise
@s-ngh8n: open parasols on the sandy beach with the glittering waves in the distance. kinda like their name, lemon has a sense of freshness that i can't fully articulate using adjectives. so, here i am using a description to fully said what i meant
@boba-beom: xing fu tang's brown sugar boba milk tea. other than the boba theme being similar, smiles to me seems very refreshing and warm in the way she speaks and interacts with yours truly
@dim-sun: a cottagecore-themed pixel art. probably because zu had one of them for their banner one time, but every time i found a forest pixel art, it always reminds me of them...
@it-rains-blue: a rupi kaur-style book full of short stories. condensed yet emotionally rich, that is what the vibe of yerin's writing feels like for me. her range also contributes to it as short stories in one book can make you feel so many emotions; throwing the book against the wall or seeing tears fell on the pages from how it got you to feel.
@heart2beom: the smell of salted popcorn as you sit inside the cinema seats. another random one but jazmine makes me feel that way. i haven't read much of her work but i know that it'll give me a good time just like a good movie does.
@tyunlatte: a litter of kittens walking towards you as you sit on the carpeted floor of a cat cafe. seeing illustrations of cats reminds me of alex so much + the cafe aspect is definitely the kind of vibe if i open her blog. you're always in for a treat!
@lovejoshua: the colors: rose quartz and serenity. iykyk ;) but in all seriousness, i'm happy to see svt's content in my timeline from time to time because of ilem (literally every time i wake up and check the blr, it's gonna be either josh or seungcheol gifs. and i am in for that)
@junniieesbby: an emoji of a heart. as her previous moniker for her time as anon, every time i see a heart of any kind, both the symbol heart or a heart that looks accurate anatomically, it reminds me of angie!
@hanniejie: the song "can you feel the sunshine?" from the video game sonic r. using the sol as their aesthetic, lex gives of a very warm and optimistic vibe whenever i see their name or username, kinda like this song whenever i play them.
@txt-yaomi: ateez's yunho. ever since i learned that sof ults him, i kinda feel almost the same vibe between the two of them. both can be calm and excitedly chaotic at any time >.<
@talesofyuan: a shelf full of multi-volume manga series. remembering yuan's dream as a mangaka, every time i see a manga illustration, it always reminds me of her.
@choistick: the words "Musik" and "Kunst" . knowing where she comes from, thinking about saph really makes me want to revive my knowledge of the german language after not using it since i graduated high school lmao guten tag saph!
@robin-obsessed: txt's hueningkai being the ningdungie that she is, lee gives off the same vibe as hyuka whenever i think of her + her tumblr banner and discord username don't help either in making me think that she and kai are connected in some way...

Okay Indigo, hit me.... show me what you got.
Closing out his 20s with a little angsty emo alt-pop R&B electric rock, Namjoon presents Indigo. Independent. Indulgent. Ingenious.
Tumblr media
Though I was unfamiliar with the Korean individuals collabing with Namjoon on this record, I did take a "pre-listen" to some of their work before Indigo's release so I could be familiar with their style.
Of course I knew who Erykah Badu is. Though very talented and respected musically, she is not without her own controversies.
And I know Anderson .Paak. I am a huge fan of Silk Sonic, his Grammy winning duo with Bruno Mars who I am also a big fan of.
So these are just my opinions after listening and learning the lyrics. These are my interpretations of the vibe of the songs...
Yun. It is hard hitting first-out-the-gate and I can understand why Joon put this song first. It's a statement: Fuck you, imma do what I want.
Tumblr media
Still Life, definitely love the R&B groove, love Anderson's vocals and the improvisation: "Joon: Shit happens in life...Paak: it's gonna be what it's gonna be brothah, you just have to do your thang." "Y'all can't lock me in a frame. I'm still life." The clever wordplay. A "still life" is typically defined as a tableau of inanimate objects such as flowers, fruit and other objects, arranged and then painted or photographed and framed. A still life. A moment in time. But in this song, I am seeing it meant as I am still LIFE, as in still living...you can't put me in a frame because I am living and breathing. So my take is this song says "let's keep it moving, never stay still, live life and don't let them define you by one frame of an image or one point or moment in time."
Tumblr media
All Day, yay finally experiencing TABLO, great song, nice fast beat. TABLO's delivery reminds me of Eminem... personally, I am not a big fan of Eminem, but in this song, that type of vocal from TABLO works well. The beat will probably get this song added to my "walking playlist." WE GOT DYNAMITE IN OUR DNA! Might be my fave song off the album.
Tumblr media
Forg_tful, an acoustic, laid back vibe, especially with the whistling... sort of John Mayer-ish? Very folk music-y and right up in the middle of Sawol's music genre kool-aid. Makes me want to order a caramel latte with a touch of almond milk at an independently owned hipster coffee shop. And I don't even like almond milk.
Tumblr media
Closer, nice little bubbly intro segues to smooth urban R&B. Love Mahalia's vocals. So. Most of this song is sung in English. Paul Blanco has a few Korean words and that's it. The lyrics are very sensual. I find it conveniently uncontroversial that it is Mr. Blanco singing about 'when our lips lock' and 'making her body go diddy diddy bop'. The lyric: "but you run away like a fish"... that one sticks in my head because it is so visual! I saw a small fish get scared and scurry away! Great song.
Tumblr media
Change pt. 2, unexpected electric riffs. Interesting that this song is entirely in English. I wonder who he is singing about? Harsh! Lol! Since its in English, it might be about the western music industry–as we know, they have to be spoken to in their language or they "just don't get it". Or it might be about a past significant other who did him wrong. "Some day a great grief will come for you." (That Miss Karma, she's the biggest fuckin' bitch I know.) "That's all I can say to you." (mic drop).
Tumblr media
Lonely, I'm so fuckin lonely... super emo alt pop rocker. Joon made this song and these lyrics sound like some sort of weekly Top 40 groove-fest banger. The hook is an earworm in the making. "I'm fuckin' lonely....so fuckin' lonely." And the bridge is big and awesome. This song is a masterpiece of chart topping geniusness songwriting.
Tumblr media
Hectic, with all its bright notes and beat, the gist of the lyrics say 'I been working my ass off, nothing glamorous about it, and people still say the same shit. Why am I doing this? What am I chasing? If doing this THIS way is a pain, how can I do it different?
Tumblr media
Wild Flower... a big sonic, soaring, epic type song. Youjeen's big vocals and lyrics give me Katy Perry Firework vibes. The MV visuals help push the "big" to me. It's just a big song. Big Namjoon asking "what is this big life I have? what does it mean?" The visuals of him standing on top of the mountain and being able to see the entire world and it's a dawning day...not gonna lie, I did tear up. Seeing Joonie like this, expressing his lyrics visually in a music video touches my heart for him. The stage surrounded by Army... him standing and then laying in the field of purple flowers (also Army), it's very emotionally stirring. But I have something to tell Joon... as time goes by, one still searches for who they are and sometimes we never really understand who we are. All we can do is live our truths as authentically as possible.
Tumblr media
No. 2, what a nice closing song to wrap it up. Don't look back anymore. There's nothing to prove. You've done your best. No lookin' back, no. The album ends and I'm smiling.
Tumblr media
Like everyone else, my heart swells with pride. Over all, the lyricism is off the charts of course. Joonie is a wordsmith. Thank you Kim Namjoon/RM for putting your soul out there, sharing your emotions and thoughts with us in such a poetically lyrical way. Well done.
My disclaimers: I am not a music expert. These are just my personal opinions. But I do have impeccable taste in music. 💜

my sonic playlist rambles NUMBA ONE !!! (Sonic)
Tumblr media
alright. this bad boy is a little barebones and not nearly as curated as some of my other ones but it's got some bangers so let's get it.
So my playlists generally function with songs like this:
Song that would play during a story/scene or Event Happening (The majority of them tend to be this)
Song I think give off this character's vibes/personality
Song I think they'd bop to ..
Tumblr media
(Trigger warning for references to self harm and suicide within the song!! I don't reference it here)
This song is my baby. It's the song that I used for that one sonadow/sa2 lyric comic and it MAKES MEEE !!! I think of this song as a great look into Sonic's mind and how he feels in that specific game. Shadow is Sonic's FIRST rival-turned-friend-that-dies which is something we see multiple times afterwards in Sonic games. Sonic has seen it over and over now, yeah, but how could he possibly feel when it happens the first time? He's young, he's a world hero, he traveled into fucking space and watched someone who helped him and who went through so much hurtle into the atmosphere without a way to save him. He met someone so incredibly special that deserved a new life after what happened to him and he never got to see it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another really good one. Yes it's about Shadow again. Seeing a ghost from times past who doesn't remember what you know about him. Doesn't remember saving the world with you. Sonic keeps a lot of emotions in. We know this. Because of jokes/mandates that "Sonic's not allowed to cry" it breeds the mindset of a young person who's under the weight of the entire world (literally) who has to do it all with a smile. Someone who, because he doesn't let himself feel or show these feelings, he doesn't know how to express them anyway. Doesn't feel comfortable talking about it. Because what does he say? What can he say? Sonic has made himself the "Strong Friend" in the way that he is always emotionally well enough to deal with anything no matter what. It doesn't matter that he's a Literal Child (15 is baby to me sorry) and that he is in emotional or physical pain, he won't let you know that. The last thing he wants is for you to think he can't be strong enough. He has to be strong enough.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Last song! This one I feel is perfect for him. It's loud, it's got a heavy electric guitar backing, it's fast and it represents constant push forward and determination despite any and all odds! Sonic is here for the now!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
c'est fini :) (^∀^●)ノシ
If ur ideas r different or if you have any songs you feel like fit sonic too you should totally send them to me. I need more
