What makes Fei so special to me is - among other things - that despite all the wacky shit that happened to him, he still has it in his heart to be kind. To genuinely smile. To care. To actually stay even if leaving would be the quick fix

Azriel was sitting at Rhys and Feyre’s dining room table, feeling particularly suspicious as to why he had been invited over for dinner. It wasn’t that he never had dinner with them. It’s that usually, it wasn’t just him.
“How’s work, Az?” Feyre asked, spearing the asparagus on her plate.
He took a sip of his wine. “It’s good. I’ve finally filled the last tech position that’s been open so I have a full team now. She’s fitting in well and is super quick in picking up new information.”
“Does she have prior experience?”
“Not really. She’s a recent graduate and was looking for entry-level in the industry. To be honest, most places would’ve passed on her for the lack of experience, but I thought she could be molded into what we need while growing her skillset.”
Rhys smirked. “You put in the work and you get a long-term employee.”
He tipped his glass towards his brother. “Exactly.”
Feyre pushed her chair back. “Let me grab dessert,” she announced, noticing both men were finished with their main courses. She returned a few minutes later holding three plates with small, pastry-like cups filled with cream and covered in blueberries.
“What is it?” he asked.
“Lemon and blueberry verbena tarts,” she said like he had any idea what the fuck that meant.
Az eyed the dessert, taking a bite and letting the tartness from the lemon slide across his tongue before settling with the blueberry’s sweetness. His brows raised in surprise. It was good. Like really good. He glanced at the female sitting across from him. “Did you make this, Fey?”
She laughed, head tipping back. “Oh heavens no. My sister made it. Elain. You remember Elain, right?”
He shot her a puzzled look at the turn of questions. “Yeah, vaguely.” Lie.

For Queen and Country
Tumblr media
Well, here goes another one for AU-gust. This time for @jaz-the-bard!
Suprise, surprise...It's the Gondolin OT3 <3
AU Prompt: Fairytale AU
Dialogue Prompt: I don't know how to repay you...
Words: 931
Characters: Maeglin x Tuor x Idril
Warnings: A dangerous promise, a swoon, a quasi-abduction?
English is a foreign language to me, very relevant in this instance, please excuse me if this is all wrong. I've tried!
Tumblr media
“Hail, son of Gondolin,” Tuor cried aloud when he finally caught sight of his quarry. “I am come to deliver thee.”
The wretched creature leaning against a dead tree lifted a weary gaze to the young knight striding towards him confidently.
“Who are you?” Suspicion and unexpected belligerence glinted in the dark eyes whose frankness startled and discomfited Tuor.
“Thy kinswoman, the Lady Idril, Princess of Gondolin the Fair, sends me,” Tuor replied frankly, holding aloft the token of favour that noble dame had consigned to his care.
Scoffing, the staggering stranger—lithe and enchantingly delicate in appearance—gave a dismissive wave of his fine-boned hand and collapsed in a sudden swoon.
Tumblr media
Upon arriving in a hidden kingdom—led by strange and otherworldly forces—Tuor had promptly been introduced to the most magical of beings to have graced his life yet—Princess Idril. Fair as a clear summer sky and wise as the rivers and oceans that had led him thence, the young woman had ultimately entrusted him with a secret quest that was evidently dear to her very own heart.
Indeed, her beloved kinsman had failed to return to the palace’s safety and her respectful care, and she was much aggrieved.
“He may have been injured,” she had said with a mournful mien but dry eyes. “To put my mind at ease, I’d beg thee to seek my cousin in the wild lands yonder and restore him to his rightful place at my side.”
Eager to be of service to one so lovely, Tuor had promptly taken the necessary steps to ready himself thoroughly for his imminent departure—for he knew not what perils or enemies he might encounter—when the young princess slipped into the chamber he had been graciously allotted by the goodwill of the king, her father.
Even though she had treated him like a cherished and trusted friend from the very beginning, Tuor had been startled and discomfited by this renewed display of intimacy—he had only just made her acquaintance, and he had not been able to fathom why she’d incur the danger of ruining her reputation and drawing her father’s wrath by coming to a man’s chamber unchaperoned.
“Forgive my intrusion,” she had whispered in an enchantingly low, thrumming voice. “If thou wouldst dare this feat and succeed, my hand shall be thine.”
Bowing low over those pale, slender digits, Tuor had made a polite remark about how honourable and admirable one must account the love she bore her erring cousin and accounted himself a fool for not finding a better turn of phrase to express his befuddled, confused thoughts.
Tumblr media
Now, as he regarded the self-same kinsman with unadulterated appreciation and amazement, he no longer considered Princess Idril the most selfless and charitable of ladies for evidently no soul—independently of its quality—could have suffered the loss of a being so precious and charming.
“Where do you take me?” Maeglin cried as soon as his heavy lids fluttered open once more to behold the foreboding forest surrounding his uncle’s secret city. “Unhand me anon, fiend!”
Dutifully explaining his mission and his solemn promise of service and duty to the princess in more detail, Tuor believed that he’d finally get the gratitude that was due to him. Surely, he thought, this fey prince would thank him for braving the bleak wilderness and the roaming enemies to carry him home.
“Do not trust the Princess,” Maeglin hissed instead, his beautiful eyes alight with ire. “What corrupting phantasm did she pledge to you?”
Abashed, Tuor confessed, his words halting on account of his tongue being heavy with apprehension now. Just as he had suspected that he had indeed been bespelled by the beautiful lady, he presently felt enchanted by her enraged cousin.
As he looked upon that bewitching face thoughtfully, a sudden change came over the frail-looking young man in his arms—those dark, unfathomable eyes grew soft and appealing, and his hitherto raucous voice turned into warm honey, dripping like poison into Tuor’s ringing ears.
“I shall plight thee my troth,” Maeglin purred seductively, his expressive eyes turning into wells of earnest pleading and corrupting closeness. “Swear thou only that thou wouldst not bid me return to Gondolin to be condemned as a villain and a traitor.”
Slowing his steps, Tuor gave this new opportunity some thought—in truth, a fantastical, mad inspiration had overcome him, and he had started to dream that he might wed both of them for he could not bear to lose either one’s favour.
“My name is Tuor, son of Huor,” he said slowly, “and I live to serve.”
A sly expression flashed across Maeglin’s handsome face that shone with a mysterious light in the becharming chiaroscuro of the dense canopy.
“If thou wouldst not desist, at least delay!” Maeglin pleaded softly, placing a strong but svelte hand on Tuor’s broad chest. “I am Maeglin, and I would call thee my friend.”
The change of tone and the bewildering intimacy between them halted Tuor completely.
“So be it,” he finally declared in a voice that had grown raspy with emotion. “Come the morn, we shall make for Gondolin, and I shall speak on thy behalf to thy uncle, the king, and thy esteemed cousin.”
“I don’t know how to repay thee,” Maeglin purred in deceiving accents of obedience and surrender.
“Be true to thy word,” Tuor replied sternly, thus betraying that he was more aware of the guiles and deceptions of the fair and the powerful than Maeglin might have thought. “And I shall be true to mine.”

Chapter 140 is serious and hurting my heart sure. A lot. I'm scared cause I've seen a Tao ran spoiler so let's not talk about that.
On the lighter side of things, I do Love that hey. In canon? Luo Wenzhou actually calls himself "Dad" with fei du. They really went for a whole daddy scolding/caretaking kink together lol. Also I find it very soft that Luo Wenzhou holds fei dus hand for support. I haven't read many danmei so I don't know how often physical affection tends to be in them, I'm obviously only able to compare to Shows which even when explicit BL (like Thai shows) have often been reserved (with some exceptions recently). And like. It strikes me how naturally Luo wenzhou and fei du actually touch. They Are established relationship now, so it makes sense they'd gradually have gotten comfortable touching, but it's really just Present in the writing in a way that I feel like constant just familiarity touch to connect isn't always. I appreciate it.
Luo Wenzhou was silent too long. Fei Du lifted his chin and looked him over for a moment. “What’s wrong?”

Luo Wenzhou looked up at him and let his mind wander a little, thinking that Fei Du was unlike any other person he knew.

The young and artless were like clear plastic bottles; you could see at a glance whether there was juice or coke inside. The older ones with deeper thoughts meanwhile were like frosted glass bottles, most with dark liquid in them; without opening them up and smelling, it was hard to determine whether it was soy sauce or vinegar.

But Fei Du was neither. He was more like a kaleidoscope with a thousand linked-together little pieces of glass inside it, all placed at different angles; the light going through was refracted countless times. There was no way to trace it.

Even though he was squeezing this person’s hand, could touch every bit of his body without restraint, he still often didn’t know what Fei Du was thinking.

In all of Luo Wenzhou’s life, of all the individuals he had met who gave him headaches, Fei Du came out on top—both during the time they’d been mutually displeasing to each other, fighting as soon as they met, and now, when he wished he could hold him in his mouth, carry him over his head.

If a year ago someone had said to him that at the end of this year, he’d be this isolated and cut off from help in a world of ice and snow, only finding temporary comfort in holding Fei Du’s wrist, he definitely would have thought that a fuse had burned out in that person’s brain.

“It’s nothing.” Luo Wenzhou shook his head and smiled wryly. “Just feeling the grimness of an early midlife crisis.”

Fei Du blinked, then suddenly drew close to his ear with an evil smile. “What, shixiong, do you feel your abilities are unequal to your ambitions? Why didn’t you say so earlier? I’ll look after you.”

Luo Wenzhou: “…”

Then he pulled himself together and squeezed Fei Du’s waist. “Are you looking for trouble again? I haven’t settled the account with you yet after you were just playing around touching people’s hands.”

Fei Du’s eyes wouldn’t open fully. His gaze came languidly from between his eyelashes. He licked the corner of his mouth. “Oh? How do you want to settle this account?”

Luo Wenzhou didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “Darling, Dad’s already very sick at heart. Don’t do your little bit to help me on my way to my heart attack.”

Hearing that he could talk back, Fei Du slowly sat up straight and returned to the main subject. “What are you worried about?”

Luo Wenzhou let out a breath, his smile dimming. “Do you know what feeling this gives me?”

“Yes. Kong Weichen’s connection to Director Zhang and him calling him beforehand are both too easy to investigate and too obvious, like someone’s arranged the evidence,” Fei Du answered without so much as looking up. “Your own people suspecting each other, the critical witness dead without giving evidence, pieces of evidence appearing one after another in sequence—you’re thinking that this is too much like the miscarriage of justice fourteen years ago, just as though history were repeating.”

BARNHAM THATS THE FUCKER! thank you. i didnt know he had a first name. i hope this was a fun exercise for you or something. as uhh reward or something idk. i dont quite really have something i can just go grab to give you. so heres a free space to ramble about a character from those games you like.
fuck yes free pass to autism. anyway i like both trucy and maya so i think i will talk about their parallels. they are both young girls at the start of their respective games and they go through So Fucking Much it’s incredible. but they still stay strong despite it all. maya loses her older sister at the ripe age of 17 and now has to live up to all these expectations of being a perfect spirit medium and perfect adult and now she has to be the head of the fey clan and master her technique. But she sucks balls at it all. obviously. she only has nick and pearl in her corner but that doesn’t even really help because all the time she feels like she’s failing them, like she’s not enough. she always tries to handle things on her own even if it’s to her own detriment. she defines her worth by her powers and her usefulness, and when she’s in court she feels like a waste when she’s next to nick. because he knows so much. he knows what he’s doing, he clearly doesn’t need her there. but the thing is that half the cases—hell, most of the cases in the whole ace attorney series would not have been able to be solved without maya. and yes, of course her powers are useful in solving cases, but that is not what i mean. i mean without maya. without her determination, because when nick gives up she Doesn’t. without her quick thinking, because when nick falters she Acts. without her strength, because maya is seriously So Fucking Strong. when her sister dies and she gets accused of murdering her, it’s devastating, but she doesn’t lose herself and she tries to help nick solve the case as much as possible. when her aunt betrays her and she is accused of murder again she is strong enough to stay collected despite everything. when she gets kidnapped it is quite possibly the worst few days of her life, and yet she never stops fighting, both for herself and for her family. and she always stays positive, always the light of everyone’s life—when she’s gone nick’s world practically crumbles. she is his anchor, and he couldn’t have gotten anywhere without her. On the other hand we have trucy, who technically becomes an orphan when she’s like, what, 8? 9? and that’s when nick takes her in, but that’s also when nick loses his damn job. and even though i’m sure nick has taken good care of her and loved her like no one else, i can’t imagine how it was like growing up for her. or no—i can, at least a little. because trucy is cagey. self dependent. strong. basically a full fledged adult at the age of only 15/16. she had to stay strong for her dad, obviously. couldn’t make him worry about anything. couldn’t make anyone worry about anything. when we see her in the game she is silly, whimsical, seemingly without a care in the world, seemingly not understanding the gravity of any given situation. but she understands it better than most. she knows how to be serious, how to be strong, she just does it in her own subtle ways. and she is definitely not stupid. she is one of the smartest characters in the games, even if we don’t take into account her ability to detect lies. she’s great at reading people and judging situations. she’s good at navigating life in general, all on her own. of course she still appreciates her dad, she still loves him, but the life of a daughter with a jobless single father who isolated himself from everyone for 7 years has not done her a lot of favors. just like maya, she is also the light of nick’s life, his second anchor, his most important person. and just like maya, trucy never allows herself to be weak, to be open, to be not enough. never allows herself to make others worry about her or, god forbid, pity her. just like maya, she is everyone’s support, everyone’s comic relief, everyone’s reliable adult in all but actual age. So anyway if capcom had let me work on ace attorney 4: apollo justice all these years ago i would’ve actually made trucy and maya interact on screen

People I “wanna talk to” RE: BJYX. (´。• ᵕ •。`)
Disclaimer: I don’t plan on harassing any of the people mentioned on this post. Everything is speculation only. CPN.
I don’t wanna make it too long so I’ll just give one example (minimum) that made me 👀 with these people. But when it came to DLS, I had no control. This became a DLS exposes Web pretty fast. 😂
I had so much fun compiling this! Hope you do too!
* TTXS Bros
Web’s support system and bros that are always right behind him. I’m so happy that Web has people like them to look out for him and give him advise, especially his Han ge. Add the fact that he first met GG in TTXS and they were all there to witness it. If there is anyone that knows what’s going on, my money is on them. Plus, they will never say anything. Han ge is always there to support Web, he was even there on SDOC3 finals. One day, I’ll make an appreciation post for them.
IN GENERAL, I wanna ask about the cloud episodes during the lockdown. If anyone knows if GG was there— they should. Plus the post from their Weibo account when GG returned on 2019. It’s probably a staff who manages it, but the fact they said “brings him home” like GG meeting Web’s family ( TTXS). 🥺
Also this video:  https://youtu.be/0Zh5ulj6QtE  Go ahead and watch Web get roasted by his bros.
1. Han ge (Wang Han)- He is very subtle with his support and I’m sure if someone asks him, He’ll never tell anything personal about Web. One thing is how different he asks Web about relationship post-CQL. For example this video, where there is a single girl and Han ge does not point to Web as a match.
Tumblr media
2. Feng ge -  Web’s favorite who always makes him laugh. Who can forget this line he said in the BJYX TTXS episode? This is after a kid said Web is beautiful.
Tumblr media
3. DLS  -  oh! Where do I start? I can make a laundry list but here are a few that stands out:
* this one happened fairly recently, when he drew a mole on a doll presented to them. Why put a mole? and why the same spot at GG’s? He proceeds to show this to Web.
Tumblr media
* the look on his face when GG was there and they were playing that game. Oh Lord!!!!! This episode was a riot. DLS+ Feng ge.
Tumblr media
* When Feng ge was saying he will form a duo with Web, he started with “Yi-“ but DLS chanted “zhan zhan” Yizhan. https://mobile.twitter.com/ventus1821/status/1279901438034866176
* Web was asked what song describes him and he answers Cool Guy. This song was made by DLS for Web. However, DLS says he thought Web will answer a different song. Which is ‘The brightest star in the night sky.’. Why a star DLS? Do we know someone who says Web is his star? HINT: Xiao Sun
Tumblr media
* Web said he sends his clothes home which is very 👀 cause he hasn’t been home since forever ( home meaning with his parents ). DLS comes to the rescue and jokes that his parents are cool and wears his clothes. But we all know who dresses the same as he does now. watch video.
* THIS ONE! I’M CACKLING!!!!!! The look on Web’s face, you know DLS said the truth and he’s embarrassed. DLS was quick to save him tho and say that it’s his parents who were supposed to come. watch video.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
* Back in 2017, I like to think that DLS was making cues in teasing GG cause he knows Web likes him. You can also see GG interacting with DLS.
Tumblr media
Okay, I have to stop talking about DLS. Now onto the other people.
* Xiao Jie
Mr. Don’t say so much + someone who makes Web laugh is a contestant in SDOC3. He is from Web’s team and is known to do antics/jokes in his performances. In true Web fashion, once he likes someone, he consistently stays close to them. So this one starts when people noticed he followed xz studio weibo, however proceeded to unfollow it because of hate messages probably.
Tumblr media
He also liked a video of GG wearing bunny ears. Then on SDOC performance, Web’s team danced with bunny ears. When asked, they said Xiao Jie suggested this in their chat group. Referencing macho bunny. Who is the macho bunny? Ehem.
Tumblr media
So why the hell would Xiao Jie follow his studio and like an interview? They don’t run in the same circle that we know of. They have one person in common tho, Wang Yibis. Add the fake rumors that GG was seen in and around SDOC taping, then this makes more sense.
* Zhao Li ying
Is a chinese actress that is cast alongside Web in the drama Legend of Fei. The pictures say it all. The way she looks at GG, assessing him and all. GIRL, what do you know? What did Wang Yibis say about him? I love the protective jiejie vibes right here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
* Liu Haikuan
He was there with GG and Web when they all stayed at a different hotel from the rest of the crew. So 👀 what do you know Ge? What happened? Was it fun? 🔪 Back in the day, during filming CQL in Guizhou, they stayed at a different place and some bxgs visited it. The place is pretty far away from the city and not much places to get food from for delivery. They stayed there as it’s close from the filming site.
Tumblr media
And oh plus this. Look at LHK’s face.
* BAH /Being A Hero crew
This is me just being Delulu, but hear me out cause the evidence compelling. Especially for clowns like me. My love for this crew started because of the fake rumor that GG visited this set during the 2020 dragon boat festival + made zongzi for the cast. Also, the very fake engagement fanfic story allegedly took place here. This started with GG’s post and the background being compared to one of Web’s cast-mate, Wang Hao Xuan.

What gets me is the caption saying, “stuff that happens at work is a secret”. / “someone became super talkative while eating zongzi” What? Why? Who do we know is quiet but becomes really talkative when with his GG? WANG YIBIS.
Post-shoot, The director attended SDOC 3 finals too! To support Web. Plus Web’s message for the wrap was sweet. I felt like they really took care of him and will not say anything that will bring him down.
*Du Hua and Long Danni
their respective bosses. GG may have his own studio, but it’s still under Wajijiwa. Web’s contract on the other hand will expire on 2022. If there is anyone who KNOWS that going on, it’s these two. If anything goes wrong or whatever contigency plans they have, It’s safe to assume these women are in on it.
instance that had me 💀.
Du Hua talking to GG during the infamous weibo night - https://mobile.twitter.com/yiboitz/status/1215991590071820288
I wanna know what they talked about. It’s not too long and it doesn’t look that serious? But- Hello? What?
Long Danni? Well I just hope Web gives her the death stare when he can. Lol. ( we know he won’t cause he’s very respectful to seniors, but still. )
*CQL Crew
To be part of that chaotic summer, oh what joy! Many of the fansites who shared BTS and stories are crew members who turned BXG. Also remember the 49 fake candies that were posted back in 2018 were from crew members. I wonder how many more unseen photos and videos are out there that may never be released.
* Yixing/Lay
Only because he’s the bridge right now. Or that’s what we think. He is friends with the boys and clearly knows what’s it like to live in the public eye and how to keep secrets. Recently, he was with Web in SDOC3 as a captain too. Plus, more recently, he and GG followed each other on Douyin. Yixing is the only one GG follows on Douyin aside from XZ studio.
Tumblr media
Ummm. And, Yixing follows Web on Douyin too.
Our boys also recorded a video wishing Yixing’s new company success! A video featuring our boys? Wow! Yixing! Give us more! 😂
* Lin Hai
I’ll just refer you to the posts below. This man is something else. There is a reason why he said “love” when asked what his inspiration was in composing music for CQL.

Soul (2020) - Review & Analysis
See? 2020 wasn’t so bad. We got TWO Taylor Swift albums AND two Pixar movies! I joke. 2020 still sucked. Still, it is pretty notable to be getting two Pixar films in the same year. Last time that happened was in 2015 when we got Inside Out (what I thought was a masterpiece) and The Good Dinosaur (and I will die on the hill that more than a visual stunner it was a good movie too!) This year we’ve already had what I consider the functional equivalent of The Good Dinosaur in Onward, a very good, but ultimately light adventure tale of brotherhood. That means my expectations for this film Soul, from Inside Out’s director Pete Docter (also the director of Monsters Inc. and Up) were unfairly high. This was to be the year’s Pixar masterpiece.
It certainly tries to be. It’ a heavier film than Onward, deciding to tackle more existential questions like... “is there a point to life?” and “how do we avoid living a meaningless life?” You know… the stuff you usually see in kids’ movies. And while I am a big proponent of Pixar and recognize it is unfair to call their movies “kids’ movies,” the magic of their films usually derives from their ability to appeal to adults and kids alike. Though I love Inside Out dearly, I know it wasn’t a huge hit with kids, so it will never remembered as fondly as say Wall-E, Finding Nemo, or the seminal Toy Story . I say this because… I’m not even sure who this film is meant for? I really cannot imagine a child enjoying this film, but I’m also not a child so I won’t hold that against the film.
As an adult, however, I only moderately enjoyed the film. What it definitely has going for it is the beauty of the animation. I think The Good Dinosaur was probably still prettier, but that’s only because nature is prettier than city streets. This movie is drop dead gorgeous with environments sometimes indistinguishable from photographs.
Furthermore, the world of this movie is really, really interesting and creative in a way only Pixar could make. Well… sort of. A lot of the film is just our world, New York City to be precise. The movie tells the story of struggling, middle-aged jazz pianist Joe Gardner (Jamie Foxx) whose day job as a junior high band teacher pays the bills but doesn’t feed his soul. He’s only there at the behest of his mother (Phylicia Rashad). If not for her, Joe would be out there every day auditioning for gigs, trying to make it big and (likely) starving from want of work (though certainly not for want of talent). She’s more elated when Joe gets news he’s being made a full-time faculty member than when he gets a chance at a once-in-a-lifetime gig
But as fate would have it, that gig was what he’d been waiting for his whole life, his chance at the big time, the chance to play alongside a modern day legend, jazz sax player Dorothea Williams (Angela Bassett). He’s so excited when he gets the gig he can’t keep his eyes on traffic and inadvertently keeps getting himself into danger. Eventually, in his distraction, he actually falls down an open manhole. And he dies.
Yes. You read that correctly. Joe dies like 10 minutes into the movie. It’s really rather jarring tonally, and I feel like his death isn’t made dramatic at all. Something more impactful would make his inevitable resurrection all the more special. This is a studio that made me cry three times in 10 minutes when I first watched Up… they could have done something more here. Instead, the death just happens and we clip along to the next scene. This slightly rushed pacing continues throughout the film and is ultimately my biggest complaint with the movie. For something that tackles very big and heavy themes, it never really gives them time to breathe.
Anyway, the film then starts part 2 of 4. With Joe dead, we now see his soul alone in a vast black nothingness, standing on a bridge towards a bright light (what is referred to as the great beyond). Joe isn’t ready to die – he was just about to have his big break! So he manages to escape from the bridge to the Great Beyond into the world of the Great Before. It’s here that Pixar’s creativity gets to shine the most. The Great Before is the land in which personalities are born. Big Picasso-esque extradimensional figures (all inexplicably named Jerry and all with New Zealand accents) serve as guardians of the little, uniformly blue souls as they go through the “You Seminar” where they engage in various activities in order to become who they will eventually become. The Jerries usher the souls into various pavilions (including selflessness and insecurity as well as self-absorption!) in order to create all of our unique personalities. Apparently, the film sides hard on the nature side of the nature vs. nurture debate.
But the most important part of the seminar is pairing these newly developing souls with a recently deceased soul as a mentor. Together the two are supposed to work together until they find the developing soul’s “spark.” Once a soul gets their spark, they are ready to head to Earth and start life. Some people get their spark, i.e. their inspiration to live, from hearing about their mentor’s great life achievements in “the Hall of You” (mentors runs the gamut from Archimedes to Mother Teresa). Other souls get their spark from time spent in “the Hall of Everything,” where souls can try out various Earth hobbies and find what they will eventually love most in life (whether that’s painting, acting, or in Joe’s case jazz piano).
It’s a clever conceit, and I very much enjoyed my time spent in the colorful world of the Great Before. The movie gains its primary plot here when Joe (who isn’t supposed to be a mentor and should just be on his way to the Great Beyond) gets confused with a recently-deceased, world-renowned child psychologist and accordingly is assigned to be the mentor for a particularly difficult-to-inspire soul, referred to only by the number 22 (Tina Fey). Mentors have tried and failed to give 22 their spark for thousands of year. Ultimately, 22 just doesn’t get the hoopla about Earth and rather just enjoys the routine of their “non-life” in the Great Before. However, they and Joe make a deal. Since whenever a soul gets their spark, they get an Earth pass, if 22 gets their spark, they agree to give their pass to Joe, allowing him to return to his life and allowing themself to stay in the Great Before forever.
That plan doesn’t work. Instead the pair find some “shamans” in a desert within the Great Before who try to perform a resurrection ritual for Joe. This was probably the most creative aspect of this film’s plot. Shamans, mystics, or just serious meditators on Earth can actually have their souls transcend into the spiritual realm, allowing them to interacts with the other spirits who are permanently in the spiritual realm, like Joe and 22. I make special notice to include “serious meditators” because the main mystic/shaman is Moonwind (Graham Norton) who finds zen and therefore access to the spiritual realm by being a sign twirler on a street corner in NYC. But what I love about this aspect of the movie is its explanation that not just serious meditators can transcend to this realm, but actually any human can. Any time anyone gets “in the zone,” like when they get lost in playing music or basketball (or in my case doing physics problems), their soul can transcend up to the spiritual realm. The shamans are only in that they are aware of and can interact with that new reality; the rest of us are not.
However, in a fun, if a little too on-the-nose aside, the main job of the shamans is to return lost souls to Earth. Lost souls aren’t dead, they just belong to people who have become so addicted to something (e.g. greed) that they become soulless while living. The lone example the movie gives is of a hedge fund manager whose soul they manage to return and who subsequently quits his job. I’m sure there are nice hedge fund managers out there… so this joke fell flat for me even if I found the concept intriguing.
So the shamans perform their resurrection ritual. It goes predictably poorly as we’re only maybe 35 minutes into the movie and it can’t end yet. So we enter part 3 of the film where, because of the botched ritual, Joe’s soul inadvertently gets put into a cat and 22’s soul into Joe’s body. The rest of part 3 sees Joe and 22 try to put things back together. All the while, 22 by being in Joe’s body gets to finally experience real life on Earth (including their first experience of the human senses including tasting pizza). They find that they like Earth a whole heck of a lot, finding greatest pleasure in the smallest of things: a leaf falling from a tree, conversation among friends, a child’s hand being held. Plus, by being a naïve soul trapped in an old soul’s body, 22’s interactions with Joe’s family and friends (while Joe looks on in cat form) grants Joe an almost It’s A Wonderful Life type experience. 22 says and does things with Joe’s voice and body that he might never dream of saying, but the result of 22′s fresh take on life is the creation of new and genuine connections with those around him in ways he never had previously.
Of course, it’s not a kid’s movie without some sort of villain. While on Earth, Joe and 22 are being hunted by Terry, another extradimensional figure who serves as the Great Beyond’s accountant. Terry’s not so much a villain as he is a semi-comical plot device. While I appreciate that this movie eschews a true “villain,” I feel like Terry did little to add to this movie’s already very lacking sense of dramatic tension. I would have been perfectly content if they just added more horror and dread to Joe’s sense of loss of life.
Eventually, Terry manages to track down the pair and bring them back to the Great Before where, to everyone’s surprise, 22 somewhere along the way found her spark and now has a genuine Earth pass! She’s ready to live... and for once she’s excited to. That is, until Joe insists that 22 doesn’t deserve the Earth pass (i.e. to live) since they only gained a spark by being him and being in his body. In other words, 22 just got to copy Joe’s spark. So he takes 22′s Earth pass and rejoins life. He even realizes his dream and plays an absolutely outstanding show with Dorothea Williams!
And then feels empty. Earlier in the film, back in the Great Before, Joe got to see his “Hall of You,” that exhibit of his life, and he looking at his life so far decided that if he really stopped living that his life would be meaningless. He worked so hard for one thing for so long (to become a career pianist) and he never got it. Well, flash forward to the end of the movie, having now finally reached his dream, and Joe realizes it didn’t give him the payoff he thought it would. His life still feels empty. I appreciated the film’s quoting David Foster Wallace’s famous “This is water” speech even if it felt a bit hackneyed, and ultimately it serves as the movie’s message. Life isn’t about the big moments; it’s about what’s all around us. “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans” John Lennon once sange. Life is the stuff that made 22 so happy… the stuff that gave 22 her spark. She didn’t find a purpose or meaning when she was down on Earth that gave her a spark, she found a joy in falling leaves and conversations.
So with that realization, Joe returns to the Great Before, finds 22 and gives them their Earth pass back. Joe had in effect robbed 22 of the ability to live, and in the end undoes his harmful. But with only one Earth pass between the two of them, if 22 is to live, Joe must prepare for the Great Beyond. Now if you’re expecting to cry somewhere in this last part of the film… think again. As I said earlier, the film kinda clips along through these various story beats, not giving them time to be fully explored to the satisfaction of an adult thinker. And I don’t know about anyone else, but I didn’t feel much of a connection to either Joe or 22. so despite big moments of sacrifice and love, no tears came to my eyes. It’s not that either is unlikeable, but neither is particularly charming.
Some of it, I think, lies with some less than stellar voice acting on the part of Jamie Foxx. I don’t know. Some of his parts just felt phoned in? Tina Fey is adequate as 22, but not a stand-out. And I’m willing to concede too that the movie, the first in Pixar’s canon to focus on a Black character, may not have been made with me a white guy in his 20s as the target audience. Still, I’m not sure that race is particularly relevant to my dissatisfaction. I more think the film’s philosophy is a little jumbled, or maybe I just disagree with it. It seems to tells us that there’s no meaning to life and that the important part of life is enjoying the small things… but that’s a little naïve to say the least. Yes, trees are beautiful and music sounds good, but the movie shies away from the fact that life sucks for so many people. Like so many people. I’m sure poor and beaten down people will not feel comforted if you tell them that living is worth it because falling leaves are pretty.
But at the same time, I don’t want the movie to have argued that every person is “meant” to do something. In fact I think that idea is bullshit, and I like that the film denies this degree of determinism. If you can’t tell, I’m more on the nurture side of nature vs. nurture. But still by creating this world where souls are fully formed individuals prior to incarnation and to deprive them of a purpose feels… well soulless. Though, potentially bleaker, it feels more honest to just say we’re born as a blank slate, in a world devoid of meaning than to say that we are born fully formed into a world devoid of meaning. I would argue the later (and what the film argues) to reflect a darker, crueller world. Especially after watching a show like The Good Place which managed to so creatively and adeptly develop an entire moral philosophy that was relatively easy to understand and was largely agreeable... this feels lacking.
So yeah… I just couldn’t connect philosophically with this world, the film tackles bigger themes than its kid-friendly world seems fully capable of tackling, and despite beautiful visuals, it lags in the sound department, making it hard to really relate to these characters. I know it will find an audience because it’s a superbly made film set in a creative world with a unique premise, but that audience just isn’t me.

Ok I’ve literally been unable to stop thinking about all the books I loved as a kid so I’m going make a list of like my favourite childhood (meaning stuff I read from yr 1 to yr 8 roughly) book series/authors because I can (with like random anecdotes relating to them for some). And maybe if it’s out the brain I can start chilling again. (I’m fairly certain this will be long as hell)
Ruby Redfort - Lauren Child I have several memories relating to these books because THEY ARE THE BEST. Ok, so first memory is how I got into them. My town has a local lit fest and the year this first RR book came out, Lauren Child came and did a talk there. I went with my mum and it was super cool, I got the first book (signed!) and fell in love with the series. I also remember she gave away a like unfinished copy of the book to another girl in the audience. She also spoke about how the author of the RR books mentioned in Clarice Bean had given her permission to write about the character and I believed her; like me and my mum left and I was like going on about how I wanted to read the other books and then it turned out they weren’t real. Also that year I dressed up as Ruby for World Book Day at school: I wore this hand me down slogan tee with ‘so over it’ on and a hairgrip with a plastic fly glued to it. The other strong memory of the books I have is actually to do with them. Y’know the scene (in I think it’s book 2) where Ruby’s hiding and she describes hearing the tap of Italian leather shoes and you know it’s The Count. Like that scene makes me lose my shit everyday I remember it, like I had major chills when I read it.
The Declaration trilogy - Gemma Malley
13 Treasures trilogy - Michelle Harrison
My Secret Unicorn - Linda Chapman
Stardust - Linda Chapman I distinctly remember I returned one of the books from this series to the library. When I went to take something out next I was told I hadn’t returned it. I went and checked and found it on the shelf. That was the beginning of my dislike for the local librarians (the rest occurred when I did work experience there many years later).
Rainbow Magic - Daisy Meadows I absolutely adored this books as a kid. There was one in particular (the one about the fairy w/ the same name as me) that I treasured. It was my comfort book and if something was up with me it was obvious because I was reading that book again. Unfortunately I decided I was grown up and gave them all away a few years ago which sucks coz I could do with my comfort book again.  Another thing, recently I looked these books up for some reason and discovered Daisy Meadows is a pseudonym for multiple authors and that one of the writers was in fact LINDA CHAPMAN of several other of my fave childhood book series. Absolutely wild.
Dolphin Diaries - Lucy Daniels Guesss what? It’s another pseudonym in children’s literature. Turns out Dolphin Diaries was written by Ben M. Baglio. I’m beginning to think my entire childhood was a lie.
Tiara Club - Vivian French
Sophie Mckenzie books I’m not sure if this was in one of her books but I do remember that around the time I was reading all her books I read a book where and American character ended up in London. She was in the bathroom and she heard a local person talking and went off on one (in the narrative) about how this person should move to the USA where her accent would be appreciated. To this day, weirdest scene I’ve read. I hated it. But I loved Sophie Mckenzie’s books.
Uglies - Scott Westerfeld In year 8 we had a booklet of extracts we were studying. The final extract of the booklet was from Uglies which, coincidentally, I had recently read (as had one of my friends). Unfortunately, we never studied it in class. Largely because, whilst he was strict and scary as hell, the teacher we had was super easy to distract. He was ex-army so all someone had to do was bring that up and he’d go off on one for ages. There was also another lesson where somehow the class ended up discussing spongebob for most of the hour.
Jacqueline Wilson books I mean, I wouldn’t be a British girl if I hadn’t read a ridiculous number of Jacqueline Wilson books; Hetty Feather was my favourite. Also, in like year 5, I lent my copy of Dustin Baby to a girl in my class. Never got that book back.
Enid Blyton books Specifically the boarding school ones (St. Clares, Malory Towers and Naughtiest Girl). I actually used to get the Naughtiest Girl books instead of money from the tooth fairy. I guess my parents must have got the box set cheap and decided that this was a good idea. And tbh it was.
Lady Grace Mysteries - Grave Cavendish Another case of a pseudonym - Grace Cavendish was the main character, not the actual author. Anyway, I read this when I was in like yr 4 which was also a time when I couldn’t sleep well and I was awake a lot (idk why). My parents, not having technology to blame for problems as they do for my brothers now, decided these books were to blame and banned me from reading them. So that was fun.
Gwyneth Rees books My year 1 teacher (who was, like, the best) got me into these books, that’s it.
Meg Cabot books So, I really only got into these books because two of my friends loved them. These two friends would often wander off w/o the rest of the group to talk about boys and their crushes. That’s mildly relevant, the point is I read these books (and did enjoy them) purely because one of those friends liked them and I had a crush on her (not that I actually realised that at the time).
An Unfortunate Fairy Tale series - Chanda Hahn
Iron Fey series - Julie Kagawa Both this series and the one above were the specific genre I was reading when I was 12/13. Like books where a girl is not normal and there’s a mean broody fae love interest with black hair and blue eyes was my shit back in the day, I was reading many series like it but these two are the ones I still have positive thoughts on. Anyway, I distinctly remember reading books like this and listening to Taylor Swift constantly. I was like trying to bond with my friends like yeah my type has black hair and blue eyes (coincidentally a similar appearance to a guy who asked me out around the time, we’re not going into that mess though but I didn’t date him, we’ll leave it at that). Anyway, more than anything these books combined with Taylor Swift songs was my way of staving of the realisation I’m gay and of trying to make myself straight. It clearly wasn’t that effective.
House of Night series - P.C. & Kristin Cast
Vampire Academy + Bloodlines - Richelle Mead I had these series on my nook. I read them way too much purely because it was easy to. Now, my nook is broken and the account inaccessible so they’re lost to the ether.
Jackson Pearce books Oh god. Ok, so when I read Sisters Red, it was the first book I’d read with swearing in. I remember going to my mum and being like there’s a swear word because I wasn’t sure I was allowed to read that and I didn’t want to be found out and end up in trouble. So that was fun to.
Fantastic Diary of Bathsheba Clarice de Trop series - Leila Rasheed
Sita Brahmachari books Artichoke Hearts in particular, I just remember loving it and then reading all her other books that were in the school library.
Rose series - Holly Webb
We were liars - E. Lockhart So this is one of the only stand alones here but I have to mention it. In drama we had to sit and read quietly as the teacher went through the register and called us up to see our exercise books. I was reading this book. I also happened to finish it before I was called up. I was crying, knowing I’d have to talk to my teacher in a few minutes trying to not look like I’d been bawling.
Cathy Cassidy books
Thora series - Gillian Johnson
Journey to the River Sea - Iva Ibbotson
A year without Autumn - Liz Kessler

Tumblr media
Following the victory over The Traveling Gentlefolk and the celebration of the evening, the Cultbusters had come together to the home of one, Nelatha, where Amelia Zephyrine made her choice to remain in Crystalgate, having achieved personal goals that she had aspired to get done. After a seemingly unanamous acceptance of this decision, Luctan revealed to Nel and Malak his true appearance, after a long time of hiding.
With the intense fight, celebrations and revelations having come and gone, the party prepare for the next step of their journey and whatever life has in store for them onward in...
Seon Adventures Episode 29: STONKS AND SHARES!!!
It is the day after the tournament and each of the Cultbusters find themselves on a journey of preparations, conscious and subconscious of what’s to come.
First up, Mournimar Da’Vir~!
The Tiefling Ranger, accompanied by his trusty Dire Wolf, Morgan Da’Vir, headed off to a familiar face for a familiar ask. Specifically, the horned naturalist went to Delemmak and ordered himself a new armor and melee weapon, while Delemmak’s half-orc apprentice worked the forge, under the scruffy elven man’s instructions.
After some measuring and fitting, he was left with certain options. Mythril like chainmail in one category and a special studded leather armor with fuzed in metalic paddings. Mournimar would take the latter, for a combined 600gp, for base price of 400 and improvement price of 200 gp.
As for a weapon, the madlad, who once bought a nail bat from Delemmak wound up with the option of a magical blade. A rapier of sorts, with Elven writing on one side. Thanks to his knowledge of Elven, due to his herritage, he is able to discern the lyrics to “All Star” by Smashmouth.
Tumblr media
Elven, turly a beautiful and magical language.
Following the purchase of this 250gp weapon, Mournimar would then find himself, alongside his animal companion, roaming the streets of Crystalgate and walking across the bridge, before taking note of something in the water.
A bottle of sorts. Curious, and much to the confusion and fatigue of an elderly woman that witnesses him do so, he jumps over the edge and lands in the shallow water, taking a closer look at what is revealed to be the bottle that was attached to Luck’s wings, which in turn were attached to that hellish contraption.
Still attached to said wings. Apparently this being where Kit’s disposal of the wings had led to.
Watching from dry land, after a “dramatic” fight with the straps of the contraption, Mournimar would see the wings drift away.
Tumblr media
(Coincidentally, did you know what Luck and the wings’ favorite style of swimming was? Butterfly B))
With this out of the way and opting not to share his findings with Luctan, Mournimar would carry on with the day, until reconvening back with the party in their new mannor.
Luctan’s day goes a biiiit differently, compared to the rest.
Following long pondering after the tournament and a near sleepless night, due to the situation he found himself in with TTG and Amelia’s sister, Sabrina, Luck had made a list of activities to keep his mind off of what was supposed to be a simple vengeance quest.
The streetdumb tiefling in disguise would begin by precuring supplies, tools, materials and work on building something he had never, until recently, thought he’d ever want to make: a shrine.
Tumblr media
Not for any god, but for a worshipper of a god. With hard work and determination, as well as a bit of an imagination, Luctan would construct a shrine to Keemis, for Malak.
Tumblr media
He felt it the least he could do, given the work Malak had put up for them. And all their shenanigans until now.
From there he heads to Peppery Pete’s, buying the party a number of potions. Out of habit, he buys five. Each of the Greater Healing Variety. Beyond that, he would get something else, in a glass casing.
The Catharsis Poison. Worth 250gp, A deep red, runny potion. Tastes like bad wine. Upon drinking, the drinker will sweat profusely, followed by intense vomiting, crying, urination, and diarrhea for 3d6 minutes. If the drinker survives, they lose all emotional attachment for 2d4 days.
After much complimenting being thrown Pete’s way, by Luck, the red tiefling would ask his business partner about where he may perhaps percure a tattoo of the magical kind. Given directions, Luctan would find himself at the home/establishment of a tattooist Elf with a floofy beard.
A real pro of 300 years, Luck would essentially be in safe hands, as long as he was good with the gold and tite with the toughness.
For the next 6 hours Luck would have to bite into his black tanktop shirt and grit and, occasionally shed a few tears, as magical golden and purple ink was fused to his chest’s skin.
Tumblr media
By the time it’s over, the butterfly-wing esque pattern is infused into his flesh, perfectly and with no diseases! OR sepsis! (DARN!)
Mark of the Elvenkind:
Size:
Medium
Location:
Any
Intricacy:
Average
Power:
Low
This mark imbues its wearer with the benefits of Fey Blood, granting them immunity to magical sleep and advantage on saving throws against being charmed.
Feeling safer from the magical mind control of others, Luctan would pay his tattooist and dress back up. After which he’d continue to the next part of his work:
INVESTMENTS!
Meeting with Delemmak and then Father Eldod, the Dragonborn, Luctan would invest high quantities of gold into each’s respective field. In one way to aid his favorite people in Crystalgate and in another way to make money in town, while the party was away on adventures.
The grattitude in each man was evident as in one case, Luck was helping his colleague and his daughter, Glashta, who’s mother works as an Accountant (Orccountant, if you will). While in the other he was aiding a kindly old Dragonborn, with whom he had made one of the deepest connections two people could make. Personal. Intimate: THE LOVE FOR ARCHITECTURE!!!
And as he’d leave his greatful, tearful friend, Luctan would again make the “Call me” sign with his thumb and pinky.
As day gave way to night, Luck pondered on possibly hiring a butler for the Party’s Mannor. But he wasn’t fully sure on how to handle such a task yet, given that any previous “help” he had working under him did not do so of their own volition...
So put that one in the “LATER” category, as Luck would bring himself, with a package under arm, to Nel and Amelia’s place.
After formalities are out of the way, Luctan presents the package, put together with wrapping paper and rope, purple clumps coming out from a few openings. Amelia would accept said parcel and in turn pass to the tiefling a gift she had been holding onto, herself, for the longest time.
Wrapped in paper, there would be flowers. They’d be dried up, but still put together Gladiolus (Gladioli?). Flowers, famous for often being given to gladiators (hence the name).
The gladiolus flowers symbolize honor and remembrance,as well among many a other qualities: Strength of character, faithfulness, sincerity and integrity, Infatuation and never giving up. A number of these qualities deemed fitting by the blue Genasi, for the red Tiefling.
In turn, from Luctan’s gift to her, Amelia would become the owner of a purple jacket. Identical to Luck’s jacket, from the early days of their adventures, with the notable put togetherness of the sleeves.
And an item, stuffed in the inner pocket of the jacket: Luck’s Blink Dagger. Still in mint condition, too.
Tumblr media
The two talk then. And hug it out and then part ways, promissing to meet again, later on, whenever time allows them.
ALL WHILE THIS WAS HAPPENING, THOUGH!
Malak had come earlier to Nel and Amelia’s place, earliest of all.
Welcomed inside, Malak would make an offer of enchanting an item for Amelia, as a farewell present to her. After much searching, she would pick her seashell necklace out and give it for this enchantment.
Using diamond dust and the right incantation, as well as tracing his fingers over the necklace, the Death Cleric would spend a while, infusing a spell into the item. An hour after the casting, Malak would create a Necklace of Sending for Amelia. With a bonus password for personal usage only. Chosen by Amelia, the password is “Alexander”.
Thankful, she in turn would give him a fitting present. Her Keemis necklace, the one with the magical enchantment on it. With a bit of effort, she manages to place it over his head and onto his neck, asking only that he keeps the party safe. Determined to wait for their return.
Tumblr media
Malak wishes the two of them a nice life together. A happy life together.
Amelia confides in him her worries. In 25 years of life, she’s never been so close to death and she nearly died twice with them. It’ll shake anyone and gives appreciation. She knew the time to leave was coming. And with the success at the tournament, it was the fitting moment to step back from the spotlight and reasess her life, now that she had Nel, Archie and Sabrina.
Malak takes this into account and Blesses Amelia, as the torch gets properly passed.
With this done, Malak preps himself and his know how to build himself a shrine to Keemis! Preferably in the garden! So he walks on back to the house. And following a note, he finds Luctan’s gift for him there, as it is.
(Much laugh is had ooc.)
The Cleric would approach and take position in front of the shrine, lighting up a pair of small flames atop the offering plates. One flame black. Another White.  Sick.
Speaking of spotlights and gifts! Belli Narah takes the stage and begins her busy day by Sending a message to Bardy Scott, asking him where he got that Thaumaturgy Stone from! "I bought it from Peppery Pete and you can too!” is the answer she gets in turn.
And to Peppery Pete’s she goes, buying herself a stone for 50gp. Which she narrows down the price of to 45gp, for advertisement purposses.
Words are said.
Jokes are made.
And the intricacies of adventuring life get debated between the two, before Belli parts ways for now and carries onto the Nature’s Bounty cafe.
Where she meets Guinnevere. A bald human woman, with a raven on her shoulder.  Why does she meet her? Because Belli demands to speak to the manager.
Why?
Because she wants to get a membership. Why? As a gift for Amelia, of course! Big money is paid as Belli goes all out for the Air Genasi Monk, Getting her a card with  50 visitations free of charge.
The chummy bard goes beyond the gifts, interestingly enough! For she also suggests the addition of a gift shop for customers and passer bys. So into it, she is, that she follows her rich kid instincts and makes...
Investments! She makes an investment in the establishment! STONKZ ARE BEING PUT IN!  100 gold is being placed in the investment... um... corner? Is that where you put investments?!
After gruelling and hilarious (ooc-ly) discussions on Familiar shapes, Belli heads off home, with the rest of the party, where they discuss in what order they are to do their work.
Luctan brings out the potions, handing a Greater Healing for each of the three and quickly realizing half-way into pulling out a forth that there are only 4 of them and thus, he had bought one in exess.
Putting it away, the quartet talk shop, with Luctan (with Mournimar’s aide) elaborating on their adventure in stopping their first cult. And the crystal ball involved. The visions there in and the specifity of Lake Stren in all this.
The four ultimately agree on an order of solving the cases:
Lake Stren > River’s Job Offer >  Lucius Bennett ‘s Offer.
Luck’s personal quest of regaining limbs was to be on wait for now..
As the group carry on conversations on what to do in the meanwhile, before making contact with the clients in the morning, Malak raises the subject of the shrine Luck had made for him in the garden. He would have much preferred to make it himself, as it was his deity and his worship...
But he is ultimately greatful to the tiefling for the work he put in. Luctan sharing that it felt the least he could do for Malak, after the priest’s kindness towards the party.
Then the idea gets brought up for a late night house warming party!
Belli takes to the task quickly and enthusiastically and makes calls to family and friends!
Confirmed guests from the Sending are Sabrina, Ficus, Kit, Pete and Samson. Bob Narah confirms that he’ll get the kids and enough alcohol for a cheeky 50.
All out of slots, the Bard goes old school and heads to the home of Nel and Amelia, becoming the last person of the party (currently) to visit the two that day. She makes with the knocking and is welcomed inside by a pajama’d up Nel, quite surprised with how everyone’s coming in order again and again.
Before the announcement of the party, she hands the fellow half-elf bard a knitted hat that she had made for her, which Nel accepts. With the excitement of that one relative that keeps getting socks for Christmas.
Being pointed to Amelia, Belli elaborates on the evening’s imprompty party (cut back to Luck as he uses some magic to light up candles and stuff with Purple Flames).
Weary of going out at this time, now that she was with Nel, Amelia asks for the level of the party, who else would be there and the like.
“Super casual.” is Belli’s answer as Nel, having heard the word “party”, immediatelly would switch outfits like in a cartoon, magically wearing an evening gown and ready!
“How’d you do that?!” Belli would ask, shocked at the sudden change.
“Showbusiness, Darling!” is Nel’s answer.  Nel is always ready.
Like Luctan and Malak before her, Belli too would then have a heart to heart conversation with Amelia, over the Air Genasi’s departure from the party. Truths are spoken. Amelia feeling herself an outsider in the group, with how the others had bonded. And felt herself unappreciated in the time, having closed herself off to some extent.
The alchohol during the time she traveled with the group was no incident. It was a coping mechanism.
With adventuring done, she had made the decision to cut down on the drinking.
Belli would, in turn, apologize for making Amelia feel unwanted and unapproached. She’d cry, genuine tears of remorse for not being there for her enough.
The two would hug it out then.
Mad respect.
(THERE ARE EMOTIONS! I AM SOBBING LIKE A FUCK AS THEY HUG!)
With Belli handing Amelia the card from Nature’s Bounty, Amelia would deliver a gift in turn to Belli. Flowers for the bard, as well. This time, specifically for Belli, Chrysanthemums.
Tumblr media
Parting ways, until the party, Belli would visit one more person to offer them a spot on the guest list:  Doreen. The head of the orphanage. And after some successful chatting, Doreen would join in.
And the party would follow next...

Novel Epilogue (Part 2)
We all have this summary of the later parts of the epilogue because of @angel-kyousuke who found the e-book version on Google Play (it has in built translation, but according to feedback it’s not very good, but if some of you would like to try link to the book is here
We left off with Jack and Zhao Zi standing by the road side with Jack having just made a call to TY to inform him that SF was injured and he keeps his phone to, and I quote, “to look and appreciate his little hot-blooded cop” -ahem-
ZZ is commanding the rest of the team and people are listening to him as he yells for them to bring the culprits back for a statement, to get an arrest warrant from the prosecutors etc. and then this new, young cop who just joined the team 3 months ago asks ZZ worriedly if the Captain is okay (omg i still CANNOT GET OVER THE FACT THAT SF IS CAPTAIN!!) - ZZ says it’s totally fine, because the shady, mob doctor is very good, and then ZZ remembers who he’s talking to and what he’s talking about (cuz mob doctor - mob - police officer - yeah better not say that too loudly), so he sheepishly says: “Someone else is responsible for worrying about Ah Fei, our job is to handle this well”
The young cop replies: “Yes, Zhao Zi Ge!”
And LOL ZZ is so happy that he called him like older brother and he’s obviously superrrrr elated but he’s interrupted by the growling of his stomach at exactly 6pm, and he immediately starts looking around (Note: This is pure comedy) and Jack calls out: “Little one, over here!”
AND OMFG ZZ TURNS AROUND TO SEE JACK WITH A FRICKIN FOOD CART!!!! WHAT. THE. HELL. THE MENU FOR TODAY IS:
Fried beef noodles
Noodles hor fun
Beef mui fun (like a chinese risotto of sorts)
Beef fried rice
Beef noodles
LIKE WOW?!!!! Anw ZZ makes a beeline for the food cart (ZZ, you are the fucking police, remember?!!!!) and ZZ asks: “How did you know i wanted to eat all these? (ZZ HOW MUCH CAN U EAT AT ONE GO?!!!)
J: “I’m your personal chef, of course I know what you’re thinking”
Ever since Jack became Fang Liang Dian, he became a normal civilian again, and although he has a Swiss bank account that has enough savings in it to sit back, relax and spend the money three lifetimes and more, but he didn’t want to sit around so he decided to AND I QUOTE “BE ZHAO LI AN’S HOUSE HUSBAND” - NOT JOKING GUYS, YOU KNOW WE ALL JOKED ABOUT IT?!!! NOW IT’S CANON!!! OKAY SRSLY
And YOU KNOW WHAT’S EVEN BETTER? SO JACK BOUGHT A FOOD CART/TRUCK/VAN OR WHATEVER JUST SO HE CAN FOLLOW ZHAO ZI AROUND AND PROVIDE FOOD FOR HIM 24/7 WHAT THE HELL GUYS!!! HAHAHA
So ZZ literally just orders food from his boyfriend, and then Jun Wei turns up to make an order as well after greeting Jack: “Yo, you’re here again? Beef rice, thank you.”
Jack asks for 1000 NTD, Jun Wei accuses Jack of ripping him off, and the Jack drop the bomb by saying that the beef he used is Grade A5 beef, so obviously it’d be expensive?!!!! (LOL JACK PLS Jack is pampering ZZ omg) and after that, even though Jun Wei just got his pay and it’s so expensive, he still pays Jack for the food AHAHAHHAA good job Jun Wei!!!! atta boy, but Jack says sure, you’ll have to wait, because ZHAO ZI ALWAYS COMES FIRST!!!!
We move on to Hong Ye and Dao Yi in the hospital as she’s giving birth omg and she, like most women while giving birth, is yelling Dao Yi’s name like he’s offended her, while Dao Yi is soothing her, telling her not to be angry etc. and with a slip of tongue he calls her ‘Miss’ again, out of habit BUT WE ALL KNOW HONG YE’S TEMPER PLUS SHE’S GIVING BIRTH RIGHT - so she yells again: “Didn’t I tell you not to call me ‘Miss’ ever again?!!! Where the hell is that stupid doctor (Dr Jiang, poor thing)”
Anw, it’s not Dr Jiang who’s going to help her give birth but his junior, and lol Hong Ye as always is yelling again if a junior can be trusted, and she tells Dao Yi they’re only having one kid and NEVER AGAIN
IT’S A DAUGHTER GUYS!!! OMGAHHHHH
One week later, the uncles (TY and SF, but J and ZZ are there too omgggg this baby is blessed with the four most handsome and badass uncles in the world wtf) are eagerly waiting outside the baby room waiting to take the new baby and SF IS THE ONE WHO EAGERLY RUNS UP TO THE WINDOW AND FLASHES HONG YE’S PATIENT TAG OR SOMETHING (PROUD UNCLE GUYS SF IS A PROUD UNCLE)
SF looks at the baby and he’s like: “Wow, so cute, TY look, next time the little princess will call you Uncle”
TY: “Don’t worry! I will teach her so that her first words are ‘Aunt’ to you”
LOL GUYS LOL
Jack walks over to Dao Yi and goes: “Brother Dao Yi, you’ve worked hard”
Because apparently ever since Hong Ye got pregnant, her temper became even worse and even Tang Yi who dotes on her so much usually was so pissed off a few times from talking to her that he literally just walked out, and that was even more so the case for SF who usually banters and argues with her over stupid shit usually anyway, and only Dao Yi who has a really good temper can deal with her
Dao Yi, even though he’s been married to her for a while, still accidentally calls her ‘Miss’ sometimes and HY hates it the most, so every time he does it she runs away from home, but luckily he knows there she goes - THEIR ICE CREAM STORE!!! So Dao Yi bribed the store owner to always keep HY’s favourite 2 flavours of ice cream in the store all year round, so HY will always go there when she’s angry and DY knows exactly where to go fetch her home
Jack to ZZ who’s cooing over the baby: “You like kids?”
ZZ: “Of course! Small and cute, who doesn’t like babies?”
J: “I don’t. They’re noise, annoying and can’t understand human language”
AND ZZ I ALWAYS KNEW U WERE THE SLY AND SMART ONE: “Oh you don’t? Aww, I was thinking over Chinese New Year, we should do spring cleaning and I’d take out the photos of when I was younger to show you, but since u don’t like kids, then never mind!!!”
J: “Wait! You said you had whose baby photos?!!!”
And lol Jack has to reassure ZZ that as long as it’s him, no matter if he’s small or an adult, he likes em all, so ZZ better give Jack all the photos, they’re his (T^T)
ZZ blushes at that, and turns around to see SF grinning at him
Gosh it’s the kid conversation criessssss, Jack tells him that since ZZ likes kids so much, why not they have one too? And not just one, but two for Jack, and they both better be girls, and look like him so when they grow up they’ll be beautiful women (wow Jack, vainpot huh)
ZZ yells: “FANG. LIANG. DIAN. I’m a guy!!! Who the hell is going to give birth to kids for you! Go to hell!”
They get chased out because they’re so noisy HAHAHA
The next epilogue chapter concentrates on Jack and ZZ
Jack is lying on the couch, waiting for his lover who hasn’t come home even though it’s past 10pm, but he’s used to waiting as someone who’s been strictly trained in the army, and he’s been trained to be a killer who will kill anyone as long as his superior ordered it, but he got bored, so he decided to be a merc instead - he lies in bed breathing and thinks back to a time when all he could smell was blood and gunpowder (i think) in the air when he breathed, but now all he smells is good food
anw now, all he wants is a home he can return to (T^T)
Jack asks if ZZ was doing overtime again, but ZZ actually went to drink with SF and Jun Wei, and then ZZ moves over to the couch and snuggles/burrows into Jack entirely and he says: “Liang Dian. Hehe. Liang Dian is very big” and then proceeds to touch Jack’s pecs (Note: Okay I have to say so far I love the little tidbits but this author? I get the feeling that this is the Chinese version of fanfiction.net oh god with the lines I keep seeing)
But his hand goes lower and-
(Okayyy I’m not going to go into this, the line he uses is APPALLING I WILL NOT SUMMARISE IT RIGHT NOW. Anyway, this is the M-18 part guys, we have an Explicit and Mature rating they go for it, that’s all I can say right now)
So, ZZ is trying to top Jack because of SF teased him for it (what is this fixation on the positions?!!!) and Jack is surprised, but doesn’t reject him, and then ZZ literally starts crying and explains to Jack what happened - Jack bursts out laughing instead once he hears that and in his head he pities TY for a moment for having such a weird boyfriend
Jack agrees anyway, and then ZZ is all: “Really?”
J: “Sure, but if we do this, you must be responsible for me for life.” (????!!!!!! oh god)
Yes so bed scene happens - I will not detail this out at all, not here at least HAHAHA have fun guys
The next morning: ZZ wakes up to Jack already cooking breakfast, and ZZ promises Jack, after remembering what they said last night, that he will be responsible to Jack forever
And THE END

My thoughts on:
Put Your Head On My Shoulder
Starring: Lin Yi/Xing Fei
- It's okay not to know everything. Just because you don't know it today, doesn't mean you'll never learn it. There's always time to learn new things. ✅😊😉
We are all beginners. Our years give us experience. And from these experiences, we learn. 💯😊😉
- Often times, we miss out on opportunities bigger than what we have in mind because we are too fixated on things and people we think are good for us.
Trust in the Lord's plan and everything will eventually work out. 😉👍🏻💯
- It's always good to pursue something you are passionate about. In this day and age, we are pushed to pick courses which will, you know, pay the bills. Hahahaha!
When we do something we love, work becomes play - you learn and enjoy at the same time. And excelling is easier since you are eager to learn. 😊
Do what makes you happy - be it on the sidelines, spare time, or whatnot. 😎👍🏻😊
The Gist:
The story revolves around 2 individuals - Situ Mo and Gu Weiyi. It's a coming of age type of story that takes us to the mature romantic journey of the couple.
Situ Mo, played by Xing Fei, is the female lead in the series. She is outspoken, quirky, and very independent. She knows what she wants and works hard for it.
As for her passion, she loves advertising. But her parents insisted she takes up accountancy, instead (happens to many of us, doesn't it?). This is one of the early struggles of her character in the series. She's a graduate of accountancy but she wishes to pursue an advertising career.
For the longest time, she's been waiting for her best friend, Fu Pei, to pick up his courage and confess his feelings to her.
- SPOILER ALERT -
Sadly though, it didn't happen. But she stood up and accepted what needed to be accepted. Strong girl, isn't she?
Tumblr media
Gu Weiyi, played by Lin Yi, is the male lead in the series. He's the awkward one. Everything is new for him in terms of relationships. He's got it all figured out in books. But he's quite terrible at it in the emotional side of things. Hahaha! 😅🤣🤭
Apart from being the school genius, he's also the university's heartthrob. Well, who wouldn't crush on someone with this face? ❤️😍😊 Such a BB. ❤️💯😍
Tumblr media
Their journey begins with a bag switch and the incident of having to live in the same house. 😅
What I liked about the series:
- The series is soooo fun to watch. It's light and simple. It's a feel good, chinese drama. I hardly noticed that I finished watching 15 episodes in one day. 🙈🤣👍🏻 This is crazy considering that one episode is almost an hour long. For me, this is a good sign. Hahahaha! Don't you think so too? 😊
- I liked Gu Weiyi's awkwardness. It was fit for his cold and clueless character. 💯😊👍🏻 His stiffness really worked as Gu Weiyi making it look natural. 👌🏻😍✅
I also admired his acting. Being clueless when it comes to relationships can hardly be seen in men. 😊 (Is this considered stereotyping? I hope not. Hihi! 🙈) But his projection of the clueless image was so on point and hilarious. Hahahaha! 🤣
And I also appreciate how a guy, despite it being the personality of his character, takes time and effort to study and research about the things a guy should do for a girl during courtship, dates, etc. Do guys really do this? Such a sweet gesture. Kakakilig lalo. UWU. ☺️🙈😍❤️
Tumblr media
- I liked how Situ Mo is not your ordinary type of girl. She isn't shy. Instead, she's very outspoken and quirky. 😊💯👍🏻 You'll want to wish you had her personality when you were her age (At least in my case, for that matter. 😅)
I honestly think Situ Mo is the definition of a strong independent woman. Hahaha! I love how she's so cool with anything - waiting, confession, voicing out her opinion, etc.
Her character is so strong that I am actually jealous. Hahaha! I wish I had the courage to stand up for my thoughts, tell people I am angry, confess my feelings to the one I like, confront my first love, hahahaha! And so much mooooooore! I want Situ Mo to be my spirit animal. Hahahaha! 🙋🏻‍♀️✅💯😊
Tumblr media
- FRIENDSHIP APPRECIATION POST: I love how Situ Mo's friendship with her bff did not falter because of some guy coming between them. I really like watching friendships overcome issues like this. Don't ya wish you have this kind of support system? Hahahaha! Good job girls for not letting men come between your relationship! 💯✅👌🏻👍🏻😊
- I love the chemistry of the main characters. It seems very realistic! The push and pull of the emotions projected by the actors really come across. Nakakagigil! ❤️😍😊 I got butterflies coming and going all through out the series. ❤️💯👍🏻🙈
I enjoyed the series a lot because I can see myself in them when I was trying things about relationships for the first time. I giggled so much as well because while watching, in my mind I am saying, Situ Mo is me/I am Gu Weiyi. Hahahahaha! I can totally relate to their awkwardness. 💯🙋🏻‍♀️😅
Well, we are all beginners at some point in our lives, aren't we?
Tumblr media
- I love how the series shows you the character growth without being too hasty. It's satisfying to watch since you get to see how each of the characters grow and mature slowly but surely without being draggy. Hahaha! Good job to the team! ❤️😊✅💯
- The series is full of comedy stints. Especially on scenes with the nerd squad. Since all of them are clueless - even the professor, it's funny how they try to understand the female mind using scientific equations (which, we all know will be a total failure considering the complexity/simplicity of a woman's thoughts. Hahahahaha!) 😅💯🤣
Tumblr media
- I think it's somewhat unrealistic to have very supportive parents in terms of relationships - especially having their children, who are of different genders, live in the same house without ADULT supervision (at least for my family, that is. 😉🤣). Hahahahaha! But, wouldn't it be nice if this was the case? Hihihi! Freedom! LOL! SANA ALL!
- I love how the conflicts in the series are very relatable. These are issues we've gone through during our younger years. (Speaking based on personal experiences, friends. Haha!😂)
I think it's important when the story creates a connection with its audience thru things like these. Since for the young ones who are watching, how these issues get resolved can help them overslcome what they are going through this time as well. 😉
- The OST is sooooooo nice! It's so refreshing and fun. And the entrances are all on point! Such an eargasm! 🙈💯👍🏻✅❤️ Will be providing a soundtrack link below. 😉
Cons:
- I think the character conflicts were pretty light. Or, maybe, there were big issues tackled but was not discussed and focused deeply - intentionally. It somehow makes the series feel shallow. Hihi. 🙈😊
Although, I honestly think that the series lacking depth matches the feel good intention of the writer. So, it's still a job well-done. 😉

I like everything in here. Hihi! Ni personal favorites. I can put this playslist on repeat for yhe entire day and not get tired of it. Hihi! 💜💜💜

The Names and Faces of the Florida School Shooting Victims
As gunshots echoed through the high school, a geography teacher, Scott Beigel, 35, paused to usher stragglers into his classroom before locking the door, only to be shot and killed himself as the shooter strode by.
A parent, Jennifer Zeif, credited Mr. Beigel for saving her son’s life. Short Term Loans Her son, Matthew, 14, had been the last one to slip inside the class, just ahead of Mr. Beigel. Seconds later, the room filled with a smoky haze, Matthew said, and he turned to see his teacher lying near the door, pale and bleeding. Consumer Banking | Personal Banking | U.S. Bank
Scott Beigel.
“Mr. Beigel could have passed Matthew up and gone in the classroom first,” Ms. Zeif said. “In that case, Matthew would have been the one in the doorway.”
On Thursday, as officials identified 17 people killed in the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., some of the victims, like Mr. Beigel, were remembered for having tried to spare others in the moments of chaos that unfolded inside the school.
Aaron Feis, a popular football coach who was killed, also had tried to protect students, officials said. “He was that kind of guy,” said Jack Fris, a former football player at the school.
Friends said they were not surprised that Mr. Beigel, a much-beloved figure at a Pennsylvania summer camp that he attended and later helped to run, had put his students’ safety above his own.
“Thousands of people at Camp Starlight looked up to Scott,” said Grant Williams, 33, an emergency room nurse who worked with Mr. Beigel at the camp for several summers and was mourning long-distance with former camp counselors and campers on Thursday. “He was someone you strive to be like,” said another former Starlight counselor.
At the Florida high school, teachers and students were among the dead. There was a soccer player, a student nicknamed Guac and a trombonist in the marching band. Eight of the victims were girls and young women; nine were boys and men. They ranged from 14 years old to 49.
These are some of their stories.
Alyssa Alhadeff.Alyssa Alhadeff
Alyssa Alhadeff, 14, had played competitive soccer since she was 3 years old. Like any athlete, she had her ups and downs. But when her club, Parkland, faced off against the rival team from Coral Springs on Feb. 13, she was at the top of her game.
“Her passing was on, her shooting was on, her decision-making was on,” her mother, Lori Alhadeff, recalled. With her outgoing personality, Alyssa had a wide circle of friends at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. She placed first in a debate tournament, was taking Algebra 2 and Spanish 3, and was honing her skills as an attacking midfielder. The score at what was to be her last time on the soccer field was 1-0, Parkland.
“I was so proud of her,” her mother said. “I told her it was the best game of her life.”
Martin Duque Anguiano.Martin Duque Anguiano
Martin Duque Anguiano, a 14-year-old freshman, was “a very funny kid, outgoing and sometimes really quiet,” his brother, Miguel Duque, wrote on a GoFundMe page for funeral expenses.
“He was sweet and caring and loved by all his family,” Miguel wrote. “Most of all he was my baby brother.”
Nicholas Dworet.Credit...via ReutersNicholas Dworet
Nicholas Dworet, a promising high school swimmer, took a recruiting visit to the University of Indianapolis a few weeks ago. After a group dinner, he pulled the coach aside and said he wanted to compete there after he graduated this spring.
“He was an instant part of our family,” said Jason Hite, the university’s swim coach. Mr. Hite said Nicholas, 17, had received an academic scholarship and planned to study physical therapy.
University officials and a youth swim team in Florida said Nicholas was among those killed on Wednesday. A post on the Facebook page for TS Aquatics, the Florida club where he swam, described Nicholas as an amazing person who had been “on a major upswing in his life.”
Nicholas had improved academically and athletically since starting high school, Mr. Hite said, and his mentors in Florida “felt like the best was still to come for him.”
“We were going to continue to groom him to be a future leader for our team,” Mr. Hite said.
Mr. Hite said he sent Nicholas a text message on Wednesday afternoon after hearing about the shooting at his school. He got no response.
“The saddest thing to me is how much life this kid had and how hard he had worked to change directions and change paths,” Mr. Hite said. “He was really going in the right direction and he had really created some opportunities for himself.”
Aaron Feis.Aaron Feis
At Stoneman Douglas, Mr. Feis was known to all — an assistant football coach and a security monitor. But he too had graduated from the school, played on the football team, and knew exactly what it was like to be a student in these halls.
So he was seen as someone who looked out for students who got in trouble, those who were struggling, those without fathers at home. “They said he was like another father,” Mr. Feis’s grandfather, Raymond, recalled. “He’d go out of his way to help anybody.”
School officials said that Mr. Feis, 37, did the same on Wednesday. When there were signs of trouble, they said, he responded immediately to help. “When Aaron Feis died, when he was killed — tragically, inhumanely — he did it protecting others; you can guarantee that,” said Scott Israel, the sheriff of Broward County.
“I don’t know when Aaron’s funeral is,” Sheriff Israel said. “I don’t know how many adults are going to go, but you’ll get 2,000 kids there.”
In Parkland, Austin Lazar, a student, recalled his former coach as cheery and selfless. “He always put everybody before himself.”
Mr. Feis was married, his family said, and had a daughter, Arielle.
Jaime Guttenberg.Credit...via Associated PressJaime Guttenberg
Jaime Guttenberg, 14, danced nonstop. Sometimes she went on for hours, her aunt, Ellyn Guttenberg, said. Jaime was warm, too, always taking Ms. Guttenberg’s son, who has special needs, under her wing.
Jaime’s Facebook page, now memorialized, shows photos of her dancing, hanging out with friends, enjoying the beach and snuggling a dog.
Her father, Fred Guttenberg, posted this on Facebook: “I am broken as I write this trying to figure out how my family gets through this.”
Christopher Hixon.Credit...Susan Stocker/South Florida Sun SentinelChristopher Hixon
Christopher Hixon, 49, the school’s athletic director, was a well-known figure in Florida high school sports. One man, Jose Roman, posted on social media that Mr. Hixon was “a great coach and an awesome motivator” when he was a freshman athlete years ago.
Mr. Hixon was named athletic director of the year in 2017 by the Broward County Athletics Association.
Luke Hoyer.Luke Hoyer
Luke Hoyer, 15, spent last Christmas with his extended family in South Carolina, where he bowled, joined in a big holiday meal and swapped stories with relatives.
A cousin, Grant Cox, who was at the Christmas gathering said the family had been told by the police that Luke, a freshman at Stoneman Douglas, was among those killed on Wednesday.
Mr. Cox said Luke was a basketball player who was ambitious about the sport and admired N.B.A. stars like LeBron James and Stephen Curry.
“I know Luke loved his family,” Mr. Cox said. “I know he did. He had a huge heart.”
“He was quiet, but a very happy individual,” he said.
Cara LoughranCara Loughran
Cara Loughran, 14, loved the beach. She adored her cousins. And she was an excellent student, her family said.
“We are absolutely gutted,” by her death, her aunt, Lindsay Fontana, wrote in a Facebook post. “While your thoughts are appreciated, I beg you to DO SOMETHING. This should not have happened to our niece Cara and it cannot happen to other people’s families.”
Gina Montalto.Credit...via Associated PressGina Montalto
Gina Montalto, 14, was identified in local news accounts as a member of her school’s winter color guard team.
Andy Mroczek, who has worked as a choreographer at Stoneman Douglas, posted a tribute to Gina on Facebook. “We lost a beautiful soul tonight,” he wrote.
Joaquin Oliver.Joaquin Oliver
People often spelled Joaquin Oliver’s first name wrong, so he went with a snappy nickname: Guac.
He played basketball in the city recreational league — his jersey number was 2 — and he loved to write, filling a notebook with poetry, said Julien Decoste, a close friend of Joaquin’s and a fellow senior at Stoneman Douglas.
“Guac and I always wanted to graduate together and prove everyone wrong, that we would be successful together,” Julien said.
On Tuesday, Joaquin, 17, asked Julien to help out at his next basketball game, which was scheduled for Thursday.
“I’ll be there,” Julien texted his friend. “Good looks brotha,” Joaquin responded.
On Wednesday, as he hid inside a closet during the shooting, Julien texted Joaquin to check in.
“You good?” Julien texted. “Bro I need you to answer me please.”
Alaina Petty.Alaina Petty
Alaina Petty, 14, had helped do cleanup work in Florida after Hurricane Irma, her family said in a statement, and she was an active member of a volunteer group with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
“Her selfless service brought peace and joy to those that had lost everything during the storm,” the family’s statement said. “While we will not have the opportunity to watch her grow up and become the amazing woman we know she would become, we are keeping an eternal perspective.”
Alaina was also a member of the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, her family said.
Meadow Pollack.Meadow Pollack
Meadow Pollack, 18, was a senior at the high school who was planning to go to Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla., next year, according to her father, Andrew Pollack, who said his daughter was among the dead.
“She was just unbelievable,” Mr. Pollack said. “She was a very strong-willed young girl who had everything going for her.”
Mr. Pollack described his daughter as smart, beautiful and caring. She worked at her boyfriend’s family’s motorcycle repair business.
“She just knew how to get what she wanted all the time,” Mr. Pollack said. “Nothing could ever stop her from what she wanted to achieve.”
Helena Ramsay.Helena Ramsay
Helena Ramsay, 17, was smart, kindhearted and thoughtful, her relative, Curtis Page, wrote on Facebook.
“Though she was somewhat reserved, she had a relentless motivation towards her academic studies, and her soft warm demeanor brought the best out in all who knew her,” he said, later adding: “She would have started college next year.”
Alex Schachter.Alex Schachter
Alex Schachter, 14, played the trombone in the Stoneman Douglas marching band, and was proud to have participated in winning a state championship last year. A freshman at the high school, he often played basketball with friends and was “a sweetheart of a kid,” his father, Max Schachter, said. Earlier this week, the two had discussed which classes Alex would take next semester.
Mr. Schachter said Alex had loved his mother, who died when he was five years old. His older brother also attends Stoneman Douglas and survived the shooting. Alex “just wanted to do well and make his parents happy,” his father said.
Carmen SchentrupCarmen Schentrup
Carmen Schentrup, a 2018 National Merit Scholarship semifinalist, was the smartest 16-year-old that her cousin, Matt Brandow, had ever met, he said in a Facebook post.
“I’m in a daze right now,” he wrote.
Peter WangPeter Wang.
Peter Wang, 15, a freshman, helped his cousin, Aaron Chen, adjust when he settled in Florida.
“He was always so nice and so generous,” Aaron, 16, said, adding that even though Peter was younger he had worked to be sure Aaron didn’t get bullied when he first arrived.
Peter was last seen in his gray uniform for the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, or J.R.O.T.C., on Wednesday. On Thursday, Aaron and another cousin said the authorities had informed the family that Peter was among those killed in the shooting.
“He was the kid in school who would be friends with anyone,” said the other cousin, Lin Chen, 24. “He didn’t care about popularity.”

Giles Fiction Winners
Giles Fiction Awards
The Watcher Watch Award  [Best gen., Giles]
Tumblr media
Winner - Jerusalem by DHW
“We fell in love with the rich detail and amazing world-building of this piece. An interesting twist was added by the fact that all this fantastical detail is given through the perspective of Rupert's father telling his skeptical son a story -- leaving room for the possibility that it's all made up (although we can never quite believe that). Rupert's father is a fascinating character and gives us intriguing hints at where Giles may have gotten some of his own personality traits. We also appreciated how well written young Rupert was, especially given that writing children is always tricky. And the subtle yet incredibly well-earned ending of the story was shear genius.”
Tumblr media
Runner-up - Metamorphosis by sparrow2000 “This is a throwaway remark in canon spun out into a magical, lush, tense, and fearful moment that draws on ancient pagan archetypes. Giles is a much beloved character and his heroic nature can make it hard to write him as being flawed. But this story delicately hints at doing the right thing by uncomfortable means. With subtlety and skill, the writing hints at his past and what the heady rush of such huge magic could do to his pride and his own personality; putting him emotionally close to the addicted and power-mad Willow even though she’s only a looming presence. The poetic language appeals to all the senses and the brief flashes of what exists in Giles’s deepest subconscious do a better job of establishing an emotional continuity than canon did. There’s true mastery of language and of character here.”
The Twosome of Cuteness Award  [Best romance, Giles]
Tumblr media
Winner - (we could have had) Another Story by 23Murasaki “This was a favorite story this year, period.  Oh man, it was cool.  The circular, many-lives aspect, how each chapter functioned as a stand-alone story, at the same time suggesting a larger, longer story, all related with motifs and emphasis coming back…  It was beautifully written.  We loved the way magic was handled.  We loved the character voices.  We loved the non-canon character details that felt so correct (Giles changing his accent to get rid of a stutter.  Ethan with a mysterious, complex, changing background…)  We could go on and on about this one!”
Tumblr media
Runner-up - The Art of Tea by ljs “So very beautiful and sad.  It wears its complex worldbuilding very lightly.  We love that this is a story about rituals, which is a very specific, meaningful concept to these specific characters.  Even if you don’t ship Anya/Giles normally, this fic will have you convinced.  Wonderful characterization, especially of Anya. We love accountant Anya!”
The Good Squirm Award  [Best smut, Giles]
Tumblr media
Winner -  Past Time by Sparrow2000
“More plot driven than pure lemony goodness, ‘Past Time’ is a deliciously dark look into our favorite Watcher’s state of mind directly leading up to the summoning of Eygon. Well-written and captivating, the author keeps you transfixed as you delve into Ripper’s mental and emotional state until the conclusion to commit the one act that haunts him for the rest of his life is almost foregone. Of course, the lemony goodness is very good 😉 with some references thrown in that will leave Giles and Spike fans alike grinning. Kudos and well done!”
Tumblr media
Runner-up - The Clockwork Circuit of the Stars by Snickfic
“Absolutely fantastic! A fresh and beautifully written twist on the sex or die trope. The twist, of course, being very true to the Buffyverse that Giles and Faith do the do or the whole world dies! Beautiful and vivid imagery as well as a very believable reason for this uncommon pairing make this story a definite do not miss!!”
The Dark Age Award  [Best dark, Giles]
Tumblr media
Winner - listen to your heart bleed (and I feel fine) by Annakovsky
“We loved the vivid language which so wonderfully captured the story's settings and themes. As darkfic, you couldn't get much darker, yet the author captured a certain kind of beauty as well. The Giles POV is wonderfully rich and on point right up until the heartrending ending.”
Tumblr media
Runner-up - bless her soul by The_Eclectic_Bookworm
“This is an elegant, creepy little horror story that still manages to exist perfectly within the universe of Buffy. It puts a lot of knowledge, and a lot of world-building into making a clever premise – Jenny Calendar gets resurrected – feel like it could be canon. Great characterization across the board, especially with Giles and Jenny herself. It’s exciting, intense, a well-written character study, and will keep you scrolling all the way though.”
The Rather British Award  [Best characterization, Giles]
Tumblr media
Winner - Gas-Ring Alchemy by Antennapedia “We loved the flustered young innocence of both Rupert and Ethan in this. Their dialogue is quick and smart, and they're both taking opportunities to show off, just a bit, just as you'd expect between the two of them. When Rupert’s professors hit him and chastised him for being imperfect, he said that the words hurt more than the fists. This seems super in-line with what we know of Giles. The first stirrings of questioning their authority is a perfect hint at later character developments: when he drops out of school as a young man, then when he stands against the Council to protect Buffy in ‘Helpless’. Overall, this is one of our favorite Giles stories, and the characterization very much hit the mark. We’ve adopted the fact that Rupert has a hot cocoa ritual into our personal canons about the character, and the author gave us that gift. Amazing work!”
Tumblr media
Runner-up - (we could have had) Another Story by 23Murasaki “Imaginative facets of Giles as at various ages and various levels of Watcher-ness, all the roads that might have been, plus an it-could-be-my-new-canon ‘official’ version. Loved that there was both an innocent child and an evil version, and every one of them was still a vivid and believable Giles. All six snippets felt well-developed and complete, even though they were short. A fey Ethan is changeable and fascinating to Giles in different ways in each of the stories, in a way that showcases both of them well. Excellent exploration of Giles’ character.”

Congratulations, ROGUE! You’ve been accepted for the role of BEATRICE.  Admin Rosey: Oh my sweet goodness, there has never been such excitement thrumming in me. While reading this application, I was exposed to new facets of Brielle that I had never seen before. There’s a certain intrigue that you breathe into her, Rogue, a certain amount of strength that is further highlighted by the gentleness of her speech. You captured her voice so vividly, throwing in the smatterings of Russian just add a genuineness to her that makes me smile. The lyricism of your writing, the hold that you have of her character...I couldn’t be happier to add Brielle to our ranks. Please, be gentle when ruining us with her. Please read over the checklist and send in your blog within 24 hours.
WELCOME TO THE MOB.

In Character
Character | Beatrice / Brielle King.
What drew you to this character? | When I was going through the bios, that very first sentence of hers stood out to me. There’s something wonderful about a laugh so charming and vivacious the whole world stops to listen. This might sound strange but I’ve also been on a kick with D&D of wanting to play the courtier background, which to me is always more interesting than the noble background. Nobles are trapped by prestige, by attention, and by duty. Courtiers have none of that. They play the politics, they learn the game, and they try their best not to die surrounded in opulence and glory they can never reach. What I liked about Brielle is that she is wise enough to know how to promote her own interests, independent enough to seek freedom yet damaged enough to do it by hopping from one cage into another. There is a sense of inevitability to her in spite of how much she seems to believe in more, like a train coming quickly from behind. I like the ‘sweet when she has to be, fierce when she needs to be’ type.
What is a future plot idea you have in mind for the character? | — Brielle stands at a sort of precipice, both settled in and a recent addition in a city as beautiful as it is deadly. All her life, all her line, all her blood has been devoted to is the needs and desires of others, in spite of the moments and choices she’s carved out for herself. In fair Verona, she is attached but she is also free in a way she has never been, for it is easier to disobey a lord ruler than to disobey a father, and she’s done the latter for years, hasn’t she? Loyalty is something that is earned. There are those individuals within the system who have earned it from her, and for that, she will keep her peace. The for nowis left unsaid but it beats like a war drum beneath her tongue, watching, wondering, curious of what happens the moment she chooses to push. Will she take that great leap into things unknown? How long can she rattle the bars of her cage before they break or are reinforced? Will she fall into depravity or be pulled into the light? The thing about the Montagues is that sometimes, their intentions are noble, and sometimes noble deeds are the furthest from their minds. Eventually, she will need to choose just how obedient she is, and just how filthy her hands can be. I would love to see her pulled between those two through various means.
— There is a moment in the bio that I really like, sort of related to my first idea but more specific. It mentions her hands having shed no blood, and that is something I would love to explore. The title of solider is not given without some expectation of violence on the behalf of the holder, and running drugs is not always easy. When Brielle runs into complications, how does she handle them? When she is required to make others submit to the rule of the Montagues, how does she accomplish that without bloodshed? She must be smarter and work twice as hard as someone who would use the threat of violence and back it up, but eventually, that might not be enough. She’s too new to have been asked to kill, but it’s only a matter of time, if what she hears about Catherine is to be believed. Brielle isn’t quite the paragon of commitment Catherine is; she’s far too cynical to believe that she can always maintain the principles of her old life. If the gun is in her hand and a Montague’s voice in her ear, can she do it? Can she pull the trigger and damn her soul when she isn’t even sure of its existence anymore?
— Brielle is nothing if not ambitious, and I would certainly like to explore that. She’s crossed enemy lines and made ties not just with Montagues, but with a Capulet. That opportunity is certain to interest her. She’s never been content to play second fiddle and let someone else do the difficult jobs, and I imagine the first time that Catherine Daly mentioned the idea of an emissary, it intrigued her. Something that called to the parts of her that loved the game and the parts of her that loathed the bloodshed, in equal measure. Unlike her friend, Brielle will not let her sense of fair play interfere with what needs to be done. If she favors the outcome, she knows that sometimes, a bad deed equals a brighter tomorrow. Negotiation is about compromise, and Brielle is quite clear on where she stands. She has compromised herself, once, twice, a thousand times, choosing again and again to delve into darkness and difficulty rather than letting those around her coddle her. In order to obtain that coveted position, she’ll need to find a way to make herself useful beyond the mere tasks required of soldiers. But then, hasn’t she always been invaluable? Hasn’t she always been more than mere anything? Soon, everyone will know it.
Are you comfortable with killing off your character? | I don’t mind my character dying, though I would appreciate the opportunity to play her for a bit beforehand. If a tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound? If a character without deep connections dies, does anyone feel it? etc.
In Depth
Please choose between the interview or the para sample.
What is your favorite place in Verona? | Brielle knows the politically expedient answer, and it waits on the tip of her tongue, her lips curving slightly. Yet at the last moment, she stumbles, divulging the truth as a means of endearment. She isn’t sure why her superiors feel the need for these little anecdotal meetings, but she’s positive that her answers will determine her future. If she lies, she will need to lie well, and spend that coin on answers that matter rather than things like this trifle.
❝ I enjoy spending time with my horses, ❞ she answers with that soft smile that’s fooled more than one who dared underestimate her. Moye solnyshko, her father called her, even as he cried when she told him she was leaving him behind. Said with love and said with betrayal, it mattered to her only in that he was so naive, not to see what was burning in her from the start. ❝ Some say our dear Verona has the most beautiful stables in the world, and I see they are right. ❞ There are those who call Russian a cold, harsh language, but they have never heard Brielle speak it. When her accent hovers lovingly over Verona’s every syllable, it is clear that there is warmth in the Russian sun just as bright as any other star.
What does your typical day look like? | One leg crosses over the other as she studies the art lining the walls for a moment, her high ponytail swishing long, dark hair over her shoulder. Her elbow rests against her knee, chin cupped in one delicate hand, and for all the world, she looks like some sort of fey portraiture. ❝ I’m usually best used as a runner, ❞ she begins, fingers tapping against her cheek in a soft rhythm. ❝ Either messages or product, sometimes both. I receive my orders and carry them out, no matter when they come in or what I’m doing. That’s the job, and why I’m good at it. ❞
This last is said with a cocky sort of smile, the kind so often found on the faces of those too young to have been laid low and accepted it. It can look a little different on a thousand faces, and on hers it’s full to the brim with infectious vigor, her eyes crinkling at the corners. ❝ When I am not doing that job, I tend to my other one. Horses are demanding business, and racing requires practice and discipline. It leaves little time for leisure, though I won’t say no to a Tamora at The Two Gentlemen, generally speaking. ❞
What has been your biggest mistake thus far? | Some people are ashamed of their mistakes. She has a lot of pride, yes, but Brielle is lucky enough to be proud of those too. Every nick and scar on her body is a mark of pride and power, a spark in the bonfire of her life. Truthfully, she’s young enough and wise enough to know that her best and worst mistakes are still to come, but she’ll carry those too, and she’ll grow. Adaptability is everything.
So it’s with surprising ease that she answers. ❝ I was thirteen the first time one of myhorses broke their leg. It is a fact of life, especially breeding horses for racing. I had seen it before, but it was distant from me. I did not have to feel it as I did with Ippolit when he buckled beneath me. The doctors make their decision quickly, but it was Father who usually finished it. ❞ Her eyes trace the carpet with precision. Sometimes, things that are easy can still be painful. ❝ He was absent that day, buying for our masters, and the task fell to me. In the end, they gave me a choice: my gun, or their needles. ❞
Her gaze shifts up with an almost violent jerk of the head. ❝ I was a girl. I loved Ippolit. I turned away, and he died without me, in the arms of strangers, alone, and afraid. That, I think, was my biggest mistake. ❞ The steadiness in her is unnerving. In this moment she isinfernus, the blazing conviction of someone still carrying a bruise on their heart. ❝ Never let anyone else kill something you care about. If it must die, put it down by your own hand. That was my lesson, and my mistake. ❞
What is the most difficult task asked of you? | She tilts her head with coquettish amusement. ❝ The most difficult task asked of any woman worth a damn: to put herself away into a box made by someone else. ❞ There is something ironic in that, considering the way she’s tied herself up here in Verona. She cuts that off at the knees: ❝ If I’m going to bind myself to something, it ought to be my choice. ❞
What are your thoughts on the war between the Capulets and the Montagues? | Brielle licks her lips, very well aware that the chair she sits in, the house she currently boards in, and her very life is paid for by the Montagues. She certainly doesn’t imagine they expect any genuine answers to this, even if someone did have an opinion which clashed with the opinion of the familia. Therefore, her answer is something of a routine. As it should be.
❝ I believe in the righteous house of Montague. I won’t say I’ve never passed the time of day to a Capulet soldier, but at the end of the day, war is war, and we are players in a grand game. I understand my place. ❞
I didn’t have much time to put this together as I’m going on a bit of a voting bender tonight and am trying to get in before next acceptances, but I did go through and create a tag for quotes I associate with Brielle.
