I didn’t like Tommy’s story either. I’m currently listening to the episode and so far I love it. You can tell they put a lot of time and effort into it, specially the background sounds. But fans can be disappointed that the format of a series was changed after months of not hearing from it. I don’t think people are ungrateful, they’re upset with how Smosh dealt with this. I think it’s unfair to completely disregard people’s concerns
hiii anon <3
i agree with you, completely honestly, i really don't want to seem ungrateful or like i'm being too negative about this whole thing, i'm going to try my best to listen to the sword af 2 episodes when i can and obviously i understand there's immense hard work and dedication that goes into making something like this, from what i've seen here on tumblr it's great so far- im not intending to disregard that!!
similar to you, though, i'm not too happy the way this was dealt with & announced - my major gripes are that their considerations for people who are deaf/hard of hearing/have auditory processing issues were only made after the backlash of the first announcement? like wdym you're making it into a whole podcast but didn't even think about people who can't listen to it? like not once in the entire process of shifting mediums? as far as i know (please correct me i'd love to be corrected, i hope i'm wrong) there haven't been any steps taken so far about that- i haven't seen any captions/transcripts posted by smosh games or any statements after the 2nd community post on yt where they addressed the backlash on what their further steps are to make this more accessible
it also feels strange to me that they were so silent about it for so long- maybe if they'd made the announcement earlier/gave at least a little info we'd already have had this conversation about inclusivity and captions would be available along with the 1st Ep so everyone can keep following the story they absolutely love as it releases
lastly (and i'm sorry this is an essay anon and anyone reading but i really need to say all this) the community of sword af fans are one of the most dedicated & talented communities i've seen tbh, they have to know the support is there right? i'm so surprised they're not posting any parts of the podcast on youtube (the literal home of smosh), it's so strange to me, it really feels like it's being pushed to the side slightly- but hey what do i know, i'm a silly gal on tumblr pls dont come for me

@leveragetober
Leveragetober 2023
Prompt 4: crossover
Parker, Eliot and Hardison take a job in Paris. When it gets interrupted by a con artist who is scamming their mark, they decide to recruit him into Leverage International. (Under the cut.)
Parker eyed the man claiming to be the mark's assistant, tied to the chair in front of her. He was a grifter, No doubt about it now. And he was really good too.
None of them had suspected him of being criminal, not until they had caught him trying to clear out the mark’s bank account at the same time as them, making this simple trip to Paris much more complicated.
So, who was this guy really? A grifter, sure, but why had he chosen the exact same mark as them? Maybe it was just a coincidence, but what were the chances of that?
"Who are you?" Parker asked. "And don’t bother lying. We’ll know if you do.”
Parker heard Eliot crack his knuckles behind her. She knew Eliot wasn't actually going to hurt this guy, since he wasn’t much of a threat, but this guy didn't know that. And yet Parker only caught a brief flash of fear in his eyes before he managed to hide it again.
He’s not gonna talk, is he? Parker shrugged. There were other ways of finding out what they wanted to know.
"Run his face through that thing that tells you who people are." She said turning to Hardison.
"Parker, it’s called...?" Hardison started to say but was interrupted.
"Wait, The Parker!?" The guy asked, astonished.
"The one and only." Parker sighed. She was getting tired of people recognizing her as a world famous thief.
"You stole the Hope Diamond five years ago!"
Parker nodded.
"And then put it back!"
Parker rolled her eyes.
“Yes I did. So, since you know so much about me, why don't you tell us about yourself," Parker glanced at Hardison's computer. "Neal Cafrey."
"Ooh, you were good!" Hardison sounded genuinely impressed as he read from the files that popped up.
"Still am." Neal smirked.
"Huh, says here that you're dead." Hardison said.
"Aww, Your FBI handler wrote a very sweet message for your obituary." Parker added, reading more information from the files that Hardison had found.
Neal ducked his head and looked away.
oops. Parker thought. She hadn't meant to be insensitive, but that seemed to have hit a nerve. Maybe they had been close.
Parker pulled up a swivel chair and sat down in front of Neal.
"Alright, just tell us why you were running The Oklahoma Little Chucky on our mark." She demanded.
"No, it was a John and Mary scam." Eliot corrected. "You need a pit bull and a wedding cake for the Oklahoma Little Chucky.”
"Well, it couldn't've been a John and Mary scam cuz you need a whole fire station for that one." Hardison argued.
"Oh, I had the fire station." Neal said slyly.
"Ooh!" Eliot, Hardison and Parker all said in unison. They were all genuinely impressed.
"And to answer your question; the same reason as you, I'd imagine." Neal continued.
"Because his company was polluting the surrounding areas, making people really sick and killing all the wildlife?" Parker asked.
"Okay, I guess not." Neal looked taken aback. "Alright, you guys have already figured out half of it.  I faked my death back in America and I fled here. I needed an easy score that would pay well so I could set myself up with a new life." Neal explained. "You guys are criminals, just like me. You understand, so, one criminal to another, would you be so kind as to let me go?" Neal slipped his hands out of the ropes and stood up without waiting for an answer.
Parker cocked an eyebrow in surprise.
“I'm very good at what I do.” Neal shrugged.
He was good. Anyone who could slip one of Eliot's knots had to be.
Neal grabbed his hat off the table, flipped it in his hand and placed it back on his head before heading for the door.
"What if..."  Parker said and spun her chair around to face him, "we offered you a job?"
Neal hesitated at the door.
"It comes with that chance at a new life you were looking for. A chance to run your own crew, long term, right here in Paris." Parker added.
she glanced at Eliot and Hardison who both nodded in agreement. It was the same pitch they had given to Hurley when they had set up the Mexican branch of leverage, and now she got to give it again. They had come to France in the hopes of setting up a new branch of leverage in the first place. She hadn’t been sure how they were going to find someone willing to do it, but then along came Neal Cafrey, an experienced grifter looking for a fresh start. The perfect candidate had fallen right into their lap.
Neal turned around. He was intrigued.
"Let's talk business." Parker said with a sly smile.

Hello! I just discovered your roleswap comic and I'm eating it up, it's so gooooooood. I don't really ship MetaDede personally, but good gods the way you write them bickering and bantering and the near sync when shit gets serious makes me wanna scream in excitement ekdvsiehrhr
AND PRIMAL BANDANA DEE THO
Absolutely my favorite part of the swap. It just makes me crave for an actual Bandana Dee boss fight that actually does him justice. (also the Prince of Dreams/Beasts title itches something in my heart really well)
I'm not sure if it was intentional or if you even know who I'm talking about, but giving Bandana Dee a Scythe at some point (plus some wind abilities) really reminds me of General Gong the Hawkeye from Patapon, what with the whole high-ranking, scythe wielding, wind-adjacent thing. Probably just a coincidence tho, but I personally love it!
Hope to see the next update! :D
(P.S. while I was reading the comic, some of the links are broken or straight up missing. I'm reading from the Tumblr app so it's a bit of a hassle. Just thought I'd let u know :D)
Hello there!! Oh my goodness, what a wonderful ask, thank you so much for telling me all of this! As a person who thrives on Words of Affirmation, these types of comments mean absolutely everything to me. <3
If I may go on a tangent about the shipping thing because I'm glad you brought that up. It's a huge complement to hear you say that because-
The Roleswap comic is not a story about romance. But it is about love.
While I am a personal lover of metadede and it fueled my initial creation of this story, I want to take the Roleswap AU in a different direction from a story that's focuses on a ship where "the main characters act the way they do because they are in love or a couple." A "partnership" like theirs can possibly be interpreted as a build up to a romance. But it doesn't have to be! So there's no blatantly romantic interactions anywhere in this story like what may be found in my non-Roleswap, specifically metadede labeled content (Like kisses, confessions of love, etc.).
Dedede and Meta do love each other, like the other protagonists of Kirby love each other. Kirby, Bandana Dee, all the other Waddle Dees, the Meta-Knights, and the friends they've made over the years. The love between many of them has developed over the entire series! They've all come a long way from fighting each other to trusting one another and even having fun together!
I see the love between the Kirby protagonists as one where they care about and want the best for each other. They may not always understand the other's thoughts and motivations. But they respect them and learn to complement each other's differences. They protect each other in battle. They grow together and learn to bring out the best in each other.
So how could two very different and powerful authority figures like Dedede and Meta come together to save their friends and family, and navigate a huge world and an unknown conflict together? That's the main question I want to present in this story.
Whatever the interpretation of the King and Knight's relationship a reader may have, I'm most happy about the fact that this comic has readers!!!
Anyway!! Back to your ask! :D
Primal Bandana Dee means a lot to me too! The only reason this comic exists is because I also wanted a cool boss fight for him, and I had just finished playing Forgotten Land for the first time. It all just branched out from there. I wish I could just spill everything I have planned for him, but alas! I have a story with a set order to tell! I will say that if anyone is worried about not seeing him until the Winter Horns area, that he will make appearances before that. Just stay tuned!
And hey. This is an AU of an existing story. We know how the canon ending went already. To keep things interesting I have to include some surprises in my version down the line somewhere, right? ;)
I also haven't heard of Patapon so the resemblance between General Gong and Bandee is a coincidence! I did look it up and General Gong looks cool!! I respect scythe wielders, haha. Thanks for telling me! If this is a game I have the ability to play it could be fun to check it out!
New Roleswap update is coming soon! I feel bad that it's been about a month and I left it on a bit of a cliffhanger. But my personal and work life is slowing down enough for me to make more progress on the next pages! Our heroes will get out of the underground tunnel soon! :O
Maybe I can offer this behind-the-scenes peek of Dedede's internal monologue in the dark tunnel as a thank you for the patience?
Tumblr media
Finally, big thanks for letting me know about the broken links! I'll sit down on my computer soon and clean up all the links. I sometimes post on mobile and sometimes on web so maybe that messed some things up.
But if anyone needs a non-tumblr reading experience, I've also hosted the story on Comic Fury for a simpler navigation! Link is in the pinned masterpost on this blog, but also here: https://forgottenlandroleswap.the-comic.org/
Thanks for reading this director's commentary! Toodle-oo!

midnight at the museum - spencer reid
summary: just a fluffy and very special date night in a museum with your favorite genius
warnings: fluff overload
inspired by the lumineers, 10/10 recommend listening to them while reading
Tumblr media
"Spence, can you please tell me where we're going?"
Spencer was sitting in the driver's seat, looking all too pleased with himself as he drove you two through the ever-busy streets of Washington D.C. It was almost midnight, and all he had said before you left your shared apartment was, "Let's go for a drive, I have something to show you."
Surprises were not Spencer's forte. They made him too anxious and he almost always ended up spilling. And usually you could tell beforehand if he was planning something. But this was definitely out of the blue.
"You know what's concerning me at this moment?" You spoke, gazing out the window at the lit up city, "You study serial killers for a living. And you're a genius. Which means you could probably figure out the perfect way to murder me without anyone finding out. Is that what this is?"
"Actually, that's not true," Spencer said factually, "There really is no such thing as the perfect crime. And lucky for you, we're almost there so I don't have time to explain to you all the scientific reasons why."
"You didn't say no," you teased, pretending to look worried.
Spencer chuckled, "Y/N, you know I'm not going to murder you. I'd have to be dead for there to be any possibility of you getting murdered by anyone. Just trust me."
He instructed you to close your eyes before turning down another road, and you had to say you were pretty excited. He parallel parked the car and turned it off. You heard him get out and the shutting of his door, and then yours opened.
"Here, hold on to me," he took your hands, helping you step cautiously out of the vehicle. Once the door was shut and the car was locked, he placed his hands gently over your eyes from behind, "One...two...three...open!"
You opened your eyes and were immediately confused, "Spencer...why are we at the Smithsonian Art Museum? It's way too late for it to be open."
"It's not open to the public, obviously," he took your hand in his, "it's nearly midnight. But it's open for us."
Your eyes lit up, "Are we doing a National Treasure type thing? Cause I'm so down for that."
Spencer chuckled, "No, we're not stealing anything. Just come on, you'll see."
He took you by the hand and led you down the sidewalk and up the stairs to the entrance. A man in a black polo and khakis was waiting for you there.
"Is this the lucky girl?" He asked Spencer.
"I would say yes, but I think I'm the lucky one," Spencer smiled, "Thanks for doing this."
"It's no problem," the man smiled, "Anything for our favorite seminar speaker."
The man led the two of you inside, whispering something to Spencer before locking the entrance again and sitting in a chair by the door.
"I'll be here if you need anything," he said, pulling out his phone.
You turned to Spencer, smiling harder than you thought possible, "Did you really get us into the Smithsonian Art gallery after hours?"
Spencer's face lit up excitedly, "We have the whole place to ourselves for as long as we want. Well, more like for the next two hours, but still."
You should've felt out of place in your yoga pants and one of Spencer's Caltech tee shirts and cardigans, plus your old vans that were the closest ones to the door, all from leaving in such a hurry. But for some reason, it felt just right.
You gave him a playful look and dropped his hand, "Race you to Degas!"
He hardly had time to process what you had said before you were racing down to the elevators. The two of you knew that museum like the back of your hand; it was the site of your first date and many dates afterward.
You were panting my the time you skidded into the exhibit, letting out a squeal of surprise when you found Spencer was already there. He was doubled over in front of one of the sculptures with his hands on his knees.
"Spence, you okay?" You breathed heavily. You were seriously considering signing you and your boyfriend up for a gym.
He nodded, raising a hand weakly to signal he was catching his breath. Eventually, he stood up to his full height, his head tipping back has he breathed out a heavy sigh, "Stairs."
You swallowed lungfuls of air greedily, finally relaxing your racing heart, "How...how did you run up three flights of stairs and all the way across the building in less than three minutes without dying?"
Spencer still panted slightly, shaking his head, "I don't know, I feel pretty dead right now."
You giggled, which in your exhausted state came out more like little puffs of breath, as you walked over to him, "This one's my favorite."
"I know," he smiled, coming up behind you to wrap his arms around your middle as you admired the sculpture, "Little Dancer of Fourteen Years, completed in 1881. Actually, it's your favorite sculpture of Degas', but your favorite painting is over there."
You bit back a grin as your eyes followed where his hand pointed to The Ballet Class. He was right. His eidetic memory always made him remember the little things.
He tucked his chin into your shoulder and just held you there. Everything seemed so magical about the moment, about the whole night. It felt like the two of you were in your own little world, the only ones inside that massive museum full of precious art. It felt like anything was possible.
Once you grew restless, you took his hand and began to wander around your favorite exhibits, running and jumped around in the large, empty halls and entry ways like kids in a candy store.
You played hide and seek and took turns scaring each other by jumping out from behind sculptures and statues. Although Spencer hates seeing you scared for a moment when he startled you, he loved watching you crack up laughing seconds later.
There was one particularly open area that lead to all the different gallery entrances and had a marble fountain in the center.
Spencer lead you over by the fountain, bowing goofily and offering you his hand, "May I have this dance?"
You giggled, "Spence you hate dancing."
He pulled you in anyways, holding you close. You sighed letting your head fall to his shoulder. That's when he began to sing.
"Wise men say
Only fools rush in
But I can't help
Falling in love with you."
His voice was off key and strained as it always was. Singing was one of the only things he really couldn't do. But your heart melted anyways, tears clouding your vision as you stared out at the moon shining through the floor-to-ceiling windows around you.
He giggled slightly at his own voice before continuing, "Oh shall I stay?
Would it be a sin?
If I can't help
Falling in love with you."
He would have kept going, but the moment was far too sweet for you to not kiss him. You pulled away enough to meet his eyes before connecting your lips to his. It was soft and tender, matching the atmosphere.
Then his phone buzzed in his pocket.
You prayed you two weren't being whisked away on a case, not when you were having the best time of your life.
He just smiled at the screen before pocketing it again, "Time for part two."
You were confused but intrigued, allowing him to pull you along as he ran towards the elevators down the hall. Once you were at the top floor, he led you all the way down to a door that read "Staff Entry Only."
He just grinned at you and punched in a code on the keypad next to the door. It hissed as it unlocked, and he pushed it open, revealing a short staircase to the roof. He nudged you to go on in front of him, and you trotted up the steps to the most beautiful sight you were sure you'd ever seen.
He had set up an entire picnic on the roof overlooking the museum district of the city. You could see the thousands of twinkling lights on buildings all around, accented by the fairy lights Spencer set up. A light breeze blew your hair back. It was all just ok perfect to be real.
"Do you like it?" He asked shyly.
You turned to him with the most adoring gaze, "I love it Spence," you gave him a tight hug, "I love you."
He wrapped an arm around your waist and an arm around your shoulders, kissing your head, "I love you too."
The two of spent the rest of your time drinking your time curled up together on the outstretched quilt, drinking favorite brand of lemonade and eating assorted flavors of scones as you stared up at the stars. It was just the two of you, no distractions, not a single other person in sight.
For those few fleeting hours, nothing existed outside Y/N and Spencer.

your votes are in! part 2 survey results ✨
i asked, and y'all answered!!! 👀
as mentioned a few times before, the survey is not closed - i won't update it with new works moving forward, but i will keep an eye on it if anyone decides to run back and add votes! so please don't feel like it's too late, esp if you're new and still catching up on the porn (there is A LOT of porn. pls take your time and stay hydrated okay 😵‍💫)
but since it's been about a week, and new votes have slowed down, i thought it'd be fun to do a reveal of the top 10 results as things currently stand! sticking them below the cut - join me, won't you? 🍷
at #10, with 40 votes, we have... moving day! i was honestly surprised to see this one crack the top 10, but i should know better than to underestimate the yoongi hoes at this point. y'all love your delusional long-haired boyfie content, and who am i to deny you that??
at #9 (my lucky number 👀), with 42 votes, we have... it's sweet! shocked to see a fluff fic crack the top 10 honestly, but let's be real, the taehyung hoes are THIRSTY (anyone who follows jai already knows this 😂) - i promise i'll write more for y'all soon, and that the next one will actually feature smut!!!
at #8, with 43 votes, we have... park and ride! (and technically also its sequel, five minutes!) y'all really said give us a part three mother 😭 and jokes on you because i have an idea for a part three *and* a part four for these two. you'll never be free of them lmao!!
at #7, with 45 votes, we have... the spins! i'm happy to see this one here!! i love this couple and i've wanted to do a sequel for them for AGES, though i swear my idea for what i actually want to do changes every few months 😂 guess i gotta decide on one!!!
at #6, with 51 votes, we have... sunday! idk why i didn't expect this one to rank omg!! i don't feel like i write jin particularly well, and i especially thought that level of BDSM would be too much for some 🙈 but i have learned y'all are freaks who like crying during sex.... huh...... DULY NOTED 👀📝
halfway there, time for the big hitters! at #5, with 54 votes, we have... party on you! ahhhhh this one makes me happy to see 🥲 forever AMAZED and ECSTATIC that my most popular fic on this blog is a hoseok fic!!! i want to write a million billion more hobi things this year, and i will certainly see what i can do about circling back to these two cuties. at the very least there shall be more ass-eating in 2023!! 🎉🍑
at #4, with 58 votes, we have... deep end! joon hoes with TWO appearances on the board, we love to see it 👏 i loooove that y'all are down not only for period smut, but for some of the risks i took with using more flowery/poetic language in this one! i had so much fun trying something new, i'd love to revisit this couple and that writing style again!!
at #3, with 59 votes, we have... two in one! y'all. no. i'm shook. wig FLEW, wig in the STRATOSPHERE. say WHAT?!?!?! the first fic i ever posted on this blog, my most self-indulgent work (actually it might not be the Most lmfao but it's UP THERE) - i'm. NUMBER THREE?!?!??! okayokayokay 👀 i see y'all 👀 we're gonna have a verrrrry fun jihope month next month aren't we?!?! 😈
at #2, with 65 votes, we have... the shape of your body! oh man 🥺 i'm almost, like, emotional to see this one rank so high. this fic is so so personal and dear to me, and was a BIG leap for my writing in a lot of ways. the fact that the response has been so overwhelmingly positive, and that so many of y'all read all 24,000 words of that fic and said you want MORE. i can never put into words how much that means to me 🙇‍♀️ it's hard for me to think of a whole plot for a sequel - bc i wrote so damn much already 😂 but lemme see what i can do to at least cook up a drabble or two (if you have ideas, keep 'em in your back pocket for jihope month 👀)
and finally... at #1... with 70 votes... no one is surprised 😂 - it's drip! ahhhhh squirt god min yoongi. we meet again. i will never live this fic down lmfaoooo. and funny... doesn't he have a birthday coming up soon? i could've sworn... 👀💦💦💦
alright besties!!! i'd love to know your thoughts!!! any surprises? any you're happy to see?? anything that didn't make the list that you're about to get out the torches and pitchforks over??? i wanna hear it all, so drop me a comment or an ask and let me knoooow!! 🎤💜
(for me, it's babygirl missing out on the top 10 by two votes... but it's fine i'm fine... 😭)
also can i just say - look at y'all, getting ALL OF OT7 ON THE BOARD??? we fucking love to see it!!! equal opportunists on this blog! yaaaaaaas porn for everybody!!! 👏👏👏

✨Fic Writing Review 2023✨
Tagged by the wonderful dynamic duo that is @aerodaltonimperial and @perhapswhoknowsvamp and it's very fitting that those two lovely people tagged me because they're a big reason why I wrote much of anything this year! Took me a while to get this done because I wanted to get my last fic of the year out the door first. I'll put the rest below the cut, and fair warning - it's loooooong. This bitch doesn't shut up, so I rambled on. A lot.
Words and Fics
76, 222 words published on AO3 in 2023
15 fics published on AO3 (16 if you count that one kinkmeme prompt I filled and posted anonymously)
2 little tumblr ficlets
Top 3 by Kudos
Voice in the Dark - Hookhausen (not super surprising, considering it was a popular pairing at the time, and it was the fic I wrote for the anniversary event)
Kids These Days And Their Darn Phones - Hookhausen
Half Your Age Plus Seven - OrangeHook (I continue to be incredibly surprised how well this fic did, like...huh?!)
Top 3 by Hits
Voice in the Dark - Hookhausen
Voice in the Dark, Part Two - Hookhausen (how fitting, LOL)
Half Your Age Plus Seven - OrangeHook (Seriously, what was it about this fic that drew people in? More so than any of my other OrangeHook fics? Like, I'm grateful and all but also confused, like this fic is way too long?! And weird about the age difference?!)
Author's Favourite
As much as I'm loving writing OrangeHook now, I think Voice in the Dark, Part Two is probably the best thing I've written? Even though it's also overly long and gets weird at the end (very much did not expect it to go in that direction when I started writing it), I'm actually pretty proud of how that one turned out. I had a clear vision in my head for how each scene would play out and what I wanted to get across, and man, I remember how most of the Hook/Evilhausen dialogue popped into my brain late one night when I couldn't sleep, so I spat it out into a doc and then about a month later when I actually wrote the scene, I don't think I changed a single word? I just added everything else around it, all the not-dialogue parts. And it was just a lot of fun getting to carry on that story, especially as someone who hasn't managed to crank out a proper multi-chapter fic yet. Who knows, maybe I'll return to that world someday...
Fandom Events in 2023
Uh, well, I guess I did the whole Hookhausen Anniversary thing? And...that's about it. I'm pretty disconnected from the fandom at large, whoopsie daisy 😬
Upcoming Projects
Hoo boy.
I have over 5k words of a Ricky/Christian Sugar Baby AU thing written already. I haven't posted it because it kinda needs some smut and that's still not something I can really do. I might post it someday, if I can make something work, or alternatively do what I normally do and put an annoying fade to black in there. Or maybe I'll think better of it and never post it because it's very self-indulgent and I highly doubt anyone else would really be interested or want me to continue it or anything. But I have Ideas for it...so many ideas...
Also, in my ill-fated quest to try and make myself write smut, I kinda started a Ricky/Bill championship celebration fic. Maybe I'll revisit that? Try to get it done?
And then there's that one fic I really want to work on, but have barely started. I've vague-posted about it here before - it's an incredibly fucked-up Dead Dove fic about Daniel Garcia and a Very Bad, Not-Good thing that happens to him, and the subsequent complete mental breakdown that follows. I've had the idea rattling around in my brain for the better part of a year at this point, despite not making much actual progress on it. Every time I think about it though, I have new ideas for scenes or dialogue. I'd like to make it work, but I don't know if I have the writing chops to handle it, plus it would probably end up being super long and nobody would want to read it, so it'd feel like a huge waste of time on my part? And I've had the idea for so long, it's out-dated too. But still, the urge remains...
Oh, and I still have a ton of OrangeHook ideas I'd like to make happen. Some are, of course, about their age difference. Some would (ideally) involve smut. And others... *nervous laughter* Others would likely result in an ''Everyone disliked that'' situation...
Writing Reflection
I was thinking about making a sappy post about this and whoops, here's my excuse! I don't talk a lot on here about my tragic backstory because honestly, who cares? But I will say this - before January of this year, I hadn't written a word of anything in years. Fic or otherwise. I used to love writing, but Stuff Happened and it killed all enjoyment I got out of it, and I thought that's how it would be forever. Then, for reasons I can't even remember, I started reading fic again, specifically in this wild little fandom of ours, and y'all are just so talented that it made my untalented ass want to give it another shot. So...I did.
I remember when I posted my first fic in ages back in January, I thought ''Maybe about three people will read this and no one will leave a comment or anything, but whatever, I wrote a thing and that's something I haven't done in years so that's enough for me!'' And to be honest, I still think that whenever I post stuff now? It's crazy to me that anyone actually reads my stuff and gets some kind of kick out of it. But every kudos and comment floors me and brings me so much joy, I can't even express it properly. I have to say a huge thank you to anyone who's ever read one of my fics, left kudos or dropped a comment. Whoever and wherever you are, you made my day!
And look, I ain't delusional. I know that calling myself a small fish in the fandom would be too generous. But I'm fine with that - because I'm genuinely enjoying writing again and that's what matters most to me. Even though I've also rediscovered how stressful writing can be (🙂🙂🙂) when it comes down to it, there's joy and happiness in my life that wasn't there last year and that's all because I started writing again. And because some lovely folks here decided to let me know they liked what I was throwing out there. The years have not been kind to ol' Sammy Sam-Sam and this year was no exception, but getting to forget about all that shit and write my silly little wrestling fanfiction has been a great distraction and a comfort through this whole year.
So...yeah. Thanks to everyone who's ever commented on my writing, thanks to the folks who follow me on here (I don't know how you manage that though, I'm such an annoying bitch, aren't you sick of me yet?) and thanks to anyone who I've had the chance to chat with about writing and ships and whatever silly little ideas pop into my head (any of y'all feel free to message me at any time, I am always down to blab about whatever blorbos/ideas take your fancy). I'm hoping I can keep this train a-rollin' a little more next year. Still thinking back to when I started writing again, I made my new AO3 account expecting to write Dustjim only, but then I quickly decided I couldn't write those two well enough, and since then I've bounced around a bunch of different pairings, with a few rarepairs shoved in between for good measure. God only knows where my head will be at this time next year, LOL. I'd love to finally be able to attempt some of the bigger ideas I've been cooking up for a while now. Maybe I'll even write a proper multi-chapter fic? We'll see, but this bitch can dream, at least.
Rules:
Feel free to show whatever stats you have. Only want to show Ao3 stats? Rock on. Want to include some quantitative info instead of stats? Please do this. Want to change how yours is presented? Absolutely do that. Would rather eat glass than do this? Please do eat glass, I’ve heard it’s good for your gums.
I'm not going to tag anyone because I'm pretty sure everyone I know who writes has already been tagged? So if you're reading this and you haven't, go ahead and do it! By which I mean, eat glass. Eat all the glass that you want. Accidents happen in the dark.

Ok, I have been really getting into the School for Good and Evil (SGE) recently, and I have to share my thoughts on why I think it is a bad adaptation.
I had never even heard of SGE before a few weeks ago, after seeing the trailer for the film. I thought it looked interesting, and I like several of the actors involved with the project, so I thought I'd give it a watch. I quite enjoyed it, even if I thought it was a bit clunky in places.
I then went on to listen to the audiobooks for the first 3 books. Needless to say I was quite surprised by how many differences there were between the film and the books.
While I don't mind so much about the aesthetic changes - such as Agatha not being so 'ugly' (I'll come back to this point later), Tedros's hair, or Anadil not being albino - I feel like this is indicative of something that I feel modern moviemakers have an issue with handling when it comes to adaptations, especially from books: in books, EVERYTHING is based in description, and description matters.
While Tedros's hair is something I can and will look over (I thoroughly enjoyed the actor's performance, and hair is the least of my concerns right now), Agatha and Anadil's appearances are slightly more concerning to me.
I know it can't be easy to find an actor who is simultaneously good for the role acting-wise, and pale enough to at least pass as albino with hair and makeup (preferably actually albino, but needs must), but in terms of this particular character, I was actually quite confused between the film and book versions. Having seen the film first, Anadil's description in the book is basically the complete opposite to the actor, both looks and character-wise (nothing against the actor, I think she did brilliantly with what she was given), and was quite jarring to me - I can't imagine what it must have been like for long-term book fans who had an image of her built up over years.
However, Agatha is a whole other problem. Anyone who follows me should already know that I love Sofia Wylie, and I think she is a wonderful actor, but I just think she is too conventionally attractive to be Agatha. Don't get me wrong, Agatha is beautiful, as is Sofia, but half the point of Agatha in the books is that she sees herself as ugly, and has incredibly low self esteem, to the point where she tries to get Tedros to fall in love with Sophie MULTIPLE times throughout the 3 books I've read, simply because she is insecure in how she is perceived by others, and because she thinks Sophie is pretty, and that being pretty matters. She learns over the course of the story that being conventionally attractive doesn't matter, so much as who you are as a person. One of my favourite books of all time, Roald Dahl's 'The Twits', sums this idea up beautifully:
"If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face. And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until it gets so ugly you can hardly bear to look at it. A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely."
As someone who is not conventionally attractive, and also have low self esteem, I feel kind of hollow watching the film now I've read (listened to) the books. Especially because the film cut the scene where Agatha is granted a wish by Professor Dovey to look beautiful, and was treated differently on her way to find a mirror, only to discover Dovey didn't change her appearance at all, it was all down to how she felt within herself. Losing that element of self-perceived ugliness, only to be proven wrong not by how she looks but how she felt, hurts me in a way I can't describe. And I'm in my twenties, I hate to think what that sort of thing would do to a teenager, with my same issues with self-image.
Another issue I have with film!Agatha is her costuming - in the book, she goes out of her way to dress poorly, despite being forced to wear a pink dress. In the film, Agatha has flowers in her hair, nicely done makeup, fancy jewellery, and all her dresses suit her. It makes her entrance to the Evers ball less impressive (whereas the equivalent scene in the book makes a whole deal out of her choosing to dress nicely - Tedros doesn't even recognise her at first). In fact, I think it would have worked even better in the film if they chose to have Agatha dress poorly, as it would make it more obvious to the audience why such an obviously pretty girl would be treated so badly by her better-dressed classmates. In the book, Agatha is also not conventionally attractive, but Sofia Wylie is. The filmmakers should have acknowledged the difference between the two, and used Sofia's beauty to their advantage.
Another reason I think the film is not a great adaptation is because of Sophie. Sophia Anne Caruso does a fantastic job in the role, but that's not the issue - Sophie is just too sympathetic.
In the books, she is vain, shallow, and selfish, constantly putting down others (Agatha especially), will do anything to get what she wants, and thinks that to be Good, all she has to do is be pretty. In the film, she is genuine friends with Agatha from the start (rather than befriending her as a 'good deed'), has a mean-spirited step-mother (who in the books is actually quite nice, Sophie just hates her), and is pushed into doing evil things by others such as Lesso and Rafal, rather than being and becoming evil by herself. It takes away her agency as a character, to do and say and think for herself.
The worst part about this, for me, however, is that I could feel that Sophie was too sympathetic in the film even before I read the books. Her actions were less character-driven, and more plot-driven, and it showed. Her montage of dressing in flashy, stylish clothing while also acting rude and seductive felt really out of place for the Sophie the film had been writing for up to that point. Then I read the books, and it made so much more sense - not only that, but Sophie was actually still putting up a 'sweeter that sugar' façade at that point in the book, trying to get Tedros to fall in love with her.
It's what made her redemption in 'The Last Ever After' that much better - because it came from within her. She was a flawed, wonderfully written character, who at the end of the day just wanted to be loved, but made all the wrong decisions in order to get to that love. But that's why she could never find it - because she was acting selfishly. Agatha found her True Love in Tedros, not because she wanted to (actually they both hated each other initially), but because they wanted to become better people for each other, and were both selfless in their wants - Tedros wants to be a good king FOR his people, and Agatha wants to be a good queen FOR Tedros, so that he can be a good king FOR his people.
With Sophie losing the nastier, EVILLER character traits she had in the books, it cheapens the win that Good has over Evil.
And that's another issue I had - the film suffers from the Percy Jackson effect. They tried to have their cake and eat it too. Introducing Rafal AS Rafal and not just the School Master, as well as combining Lady Lesso with Evelyn Sader, has made making sequels to the film much harder for them, just like the Percy Jackson films did with Kronos.
Not only that, but like the Percy Jackson films, the SGE film tries to establish the characters as Good and Evil. On a surface level, that must seem obvious - The School for Good and Evil is literally the name of the series. But that's what the filmmakers failed to understand about the books: there was still nuance. In the first Percy Jackson film, Hades was portrayed as if he were the devil just because he was God of the Dead, when in the books he was actually just as in the wrong as Zeus or Poseidon, and although he made some mistakes, he ultimately was a flawed person, who just wanted his stuff back. Rafal has kind of had the same treatment - yes, he was basically Evil Incarnate in the books, but he was still a person, who regretted killing his brother in his bid for power, and truly believed he loved Sophie.
Another issue I had was with how the film treated the Good students, the princesses in particular. In the books, Beatrix, Millicent and their friends, while not very nice to Agatha, were still good people. They wished for Princes in the wish fish scene not because they were selfish and obnoxious (like in the film), but because they didn't want to fail their classes. They had their own wants and needs, and their own strengths and weaknesses. In the film, Beatrix in particular (while phenomenally cast) came off as that typical Regina George type character, with (again) very little nuance. I actually quite liked Beatrix in the book - she was bubbly, helpful when she wanted to be, and was happy for Agatha when she 'became' beautiful. The film strips her of all that, making her snide and arrogant - something I wish the film gave to Sophie.
Just so that I don't end on a mean note, here are some things I really liked about the film that I haven't already mentioned:
Hort and Hester - both were born for the roles they played, and were styled to perfection
the CGI, which was beautiful
Charlize Theron as Lady Lesso, truly stunning
Kit Young as Rhian and Rafal, especially the fight scene
the acting - while I have issues with the characterisation and some appearances, every single actor knocked it out the park, I honestly can't think of a weak link
the chemistry between Tedros and Agatha was on point, and I loved the scene where Agatha tripped and Tedros caught her
Tedros's fight scenes, which were well choreographed
the hair and makeup, especially for Beatrix and Lesso, their hair must have taken HOURS to get that good
Kiko wanting to be a cat so she can sleep under a warm stove, which was painfully in character
the princess dresses were very pretty, I wish I could wear one
In conclusion, I think SGE would work better as a tv series, with more time to flesh out the nuances of the themes and characters.

Mid-Year Book Freak Out 2022
I was tagged by the wonderful @dauen, thanks!
1. Best book you’ve read so far this year I'll do a few. Coreggidora by Gayl Jones was beautifully written and very tough, Way Station by Clifford Simak was delightful and hopeful in that particular midcentury SF way, and Daria Serenko's Girls and Institutions [Девочки и институции] made me cry on the bus.
2. Best sequel you’ve read so far this year Like Amy, I haven't read too many sequels, but I loved the last installments to Connie Willis's Oxford Time Travel Series: Blackout and All Clear. I read over 1000 pages in under a week.
3. New release you haven’t read yet Rebecca Makkai's I Have Some Questions for You. I'm in a long line for it on Libby...
4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year I don't really keep track of new releases? But if you know of a book you're excited for, let me know!
5. Biggest disappointment The Court Dancer by Kyung-Sook Shin. I'd heard great things about the author and the translator and I'd expected it to be right up my alley, but it just fell really flat for me.
6. Biggest surprise Probably Into the Planet by Jill Heinerth. A memoir about cave-diving isn't the sort of thing I usually read, but perhaps that's why I enjoyed it so much -- her life is so different from mine, and it was endlessly fascinating to discover underwater caves with her and her crazy fellow divers.
7. Favourite new author (debut or new to you) New-to-me, to name a few: Penelope Fitzgerald, Gu Byeong-Mo, Elisa Shua Dusapin. I'd like to read more from each of them.
8. Newest fictional crush/newest favourite character For a fictional crush, almost certainly the elderly actor Sir Godfrey in Blackout/All-Clear. For a favorite character.. I really found the whole family in The Five by Vladimir Jabotinsky very interesting. And I enjoyed the titular demon and angel in When the Angels Left the Old Country by Sacha Lamb.
9. Book that made you cry I already mentioned Girls and Institutions. I think Shadow Lines by Amitav Ghosh might have as well.
10. Book that made you happy Christopher Isherwood's The Memorial. Not because it's a happy book, really, but because he can always be relied upon to be good. It's like visiting an old friend, reading a novel of his I haven't read.
11. Favourite Adaptation Well I've just discovered that my beloved Silo Saga by Hugh Howey has finally gotten an adaptation, and I've only seen 2 episodes so far but (though I have some qualms) I'm overall liking it quite a bit! Y'all should read first though.
12. Prettiest Cover This one's pretty good:
Tumblr media
13. A book you need to read before the end of the year: There's a lot. I guess top priority (not counting what I'm already reading) would be Cartes postales by Chantal Spitz, At the Edge of the Woods by Masatsugu Ono, All Our Yesterdays by Natalia Ginzburg, Greek Lessons by Han Kang, and How the Soldier Repairs the Gramophone by Saša Stanišić.
I'm going to tag @queenofattolia, @colorwheels14, @nonbinaryjomarch, @oldshrewsburyian, @sleepanon, @teacademic, and anyone else who feels like it!
*For a lot of these questions I could have also said Дiм для Дома [A House for Dom] by Victoria Amelina, but I accidentally took a break from it so I haven't finished it yet -- though so far it may end up being my favorite book this year. It's warm, and poignant, and feels very true. Victoria Amelina was killed earlier this summer.

Hii!!I hope your day has been great!!can I request for a headcanon/short fic of todoroki x reader with a Hanahaki au?I'd like it to be angst, as todoroki can't return the feelings?(as he wants to focus on school ectera)(since I think this falls under young character death that you don't write for, maybe reader takes the surgery to remove the love?)
My limit for a young character's death is like under 13, so this doesn't fall under that, but since you mentioned the surgery, I went with that. I wasn't really sure what I was gonna write for this at first, but HCs it is because I couldn’t come up with a scenario I was happy with. I’m not really good with Hanahaki stuff tbh, so this might be a bit all over the place and not accurate, but it’s my version of the whole thing
•You’d decided to confess your feeling to your friend via a letter, you weren’t very good at expressing your emotions through speaking, so you’d decided to write to him, since that’s what you were good at
•Besides, then you wouldn’t have to be afraid of stumbling over your words or about getting misunderstood
•So you gave him the letter one lunch break and told him to open it after school
•Todoroki put the letter in his school bag and didn’t think much of it
•Sure he’d heard of love letters, even gotten a few himself in middle school, but he’d always turned the people down as kindly as he was able to and he really wasn’t expecting this it to be that
•He’d never thought of you in a romantic way, you were a good friend, nothing more, nothing less
•So when he read the letter, he had to do a bit of a double take
•He was surprised to say the least, and he didn’t really know how he would tell you he didn’t feel the same
•Todoroki is a pretty blunt person, so in the end he just decided to tell you how he felt about your confession
•So he came to knock on your dorm room door to give you back the letter and to reject your feelings
•You listened as he explained he wasn’t interested in dating anyone and that he wanted to focus on school
•In reality you wanted to cry, but you just smiled at him and told him you understood and that he shouldn’t worry about it
•Todoroki sort of assumed this wouldn’t affect your friendship, but he was of course wrong about that
•That night you started coughing the first time, you didn’t really think anything of it, but as the weeks went by the tightness in your chest worsened and when you coughed up the first petals, you knew what was going on
•You had started pulling away from Todoroki already, but your feelings weren’t gone, you just tried to pretend they were
•You didn’t know what to do, you didn’t want to die, but you really didn’t want to get rid of your love for him either
•When Todoroki noticed what was ailing you, he tried to make it better, he tried to make himself love you, but he couldn’t
•Even if you’d pulled away from him, he still considered you a good friend and didn’t want you to get hurt
•He was the one who suggested you get the surgery, because he didn’t want to lose his friend
•You ended up the surgery, and while it saved your life, things were never the same after that
•Your feelings were sort of dampened for a long time after the surgery and you didn’t really feel things like affection or love at all
•Your friendships suffered because of that too, but in the end things went at least a bit back to normal
•You and Todoroki weren’t really the same after that, your friendship dissolved over time, but he was just glad you were alive even if you weren’t in contact anymore

ROSIE HOBBYING UPDATE
though,,, I've said it a few times in a few places but I'm super enamoured with the concept of having different names for different contexts though I've been bad at actually doing it and the name I'd like to use in online spaces / for people I don't know irl is Ryuuka (I know I had another online alias/name before that i streamed under for 2yrs but due to Events I now hate being called that so all 3 of u that know it that name is dead to me now please forget) so I suppose instead I should write
✨🎀RYUUKA HOBBYING UPDATE🎀✨
LONG POST INCOMING sorry if I take up ur whole dash
so I tried to search my blog for the "hobbying" tag to see what I have and have not posted recently but lo and behold,
Tumblr media
tumblr is truly the functional of webbedsites, I KNOW ITS THERE I PUT IT THERE now please show me !
except it won't if course because it sucks.
so anyway I'm gonna start typing about things and hope I get everything I haven't posted and nothing I have.
something like three weeks ago, I finally got to play a match of Warhammer 40k with my older brother! this had been in the making in a way since 2014(-ish I don't remember), when this same brother introduced myself and my other brother to the concept of Warhammer and all three of us bought models. sadly both brothers quickly discovered the "building and painting" portion of the hobby and promptly dropped out, one of them giving his T'au models to me because I LOVED THIS SHIT.
anyway I think I posted about all this before and that Match In Question wherein I took 500pts of Grey Knights (Brother-Captain, Terminator Squad, Strike Squad) against my brother's 500pts Imperial Guard (Commissar, Guardsmen regiment, 3x Mortar Crew models, Sentinel, Leman Russ)or something like that I didn't read his list. Unfortunately this battle ended with my noble Grey Knights getting summarily decimated and right tabled by the mighty power of the autocannon-equipped Leman Russ if that bastard Russ wasn't already dead I'd kill him myself
again I'm fairly sure I've posted about this before so I'll stop there and not add images.
also before I continue (to explain why points counts might seem weird to other 40kplayers) I should note that I have been and will continue to be playing Fifth Edition Warhammer 40k, because those are the books that I have. New books are hellishly expensive and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to reasonably use wahapedia so anyone who is going to tell me to play a more recent edition please kindly do one of the following;
1.) shush.
2.) buy me the books urself since you can afford it
3.) go get intimate with a cactus.
Now! about a week ago, a little less, I got to play ANOTHER match of 40k! a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. this time with a friend who has an adjacent interest in similar sort of games and who helped me build the felt-and-aquariumplant terrain pieces Im certain I posted pictures of before though I can't go check >:|
This match was again 500pts and featured both my lovely new terrain and the following armies;
TYRANIDS. >Tyranid Prime (boneswords, devourer) >3xRaveners (rending claws) >5x Ymgarl Genestealers >10xHormagaunts (adrenaline glands) >10xTermagaunts (devourers)
GREY KNIGHTS. >Brother-Captain (mastercrafted storm bolter, mastercrafted nemesis force sword) >5xTerminator (mastercrafted storm bolter [justicar], mastercrafted nemesis force sword [justicar]) >5xStrike Squad (nemesis force halberds [all], mastercrafted storm bolter [justicar])
it was great! took about 4 hours because I hadn't memorized everything yet and my friend/opponent was new to 5th but we had a good time despite getting real exhausted by the end of it there are too damn many numbers to remember
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm still super happy with how the new terrain looks!! sure it's very Amateur Hour and doesn't look ~realistic~ but I love it and am very proud of it!
Unfortunately in this match, the Grey Knights not played by me this time again tasted bitter defeat. I begin to think that list I made just sucks. or that the army needs a larger point total to make a functional list. further experimentation needed.
First blood was taken by the Knights shooting down a few(2) Hormagaunts, which was repeated in the next turn gunning down another 5 of them. the remaining gaunts took shelter for their lives behind a small copse of trees, though the Knights' Terminators quickly closed to finish their prey.
the Nids took revenge in the Genestealers flanking and stealing the jeans off the Strike Squad, without a single loss.
Finally came the crushing melee of the Raveners charging the Terminators and Captain from the cover of the ruins, slowly inflicting death (with great difficulty and losing one of their number due to those incredible 2+saves), eventually being joined by the Tyranid Prime and Genestealers in finishing off the stragglers.
the Termagants... yeah. those guys were there. they mostly just hung around. fired off 40?-ish shots and inflicted a total of 1 wound. good job guys. worth every point, truly.
Unfortunately because I failed to teach the game and remember the rules properly, this match was unbalanced, as the Terminators were not making 2 melee attacks per turn as they should've and I'd forgot to roll for the Nids instinctive behaviour rules (though the only difference that would've really made was the already useless gants running for cover if they failed)
It was a good learning experience and we had fun though!! surely we'll have a better and more heated match next time! ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ
that kaomoji looks kinda haunted,,
In other news! yesterday I finally took the time to get my printer in Operational Condition again! this means that, after being more than a month with only one arm, my Knight Armiger Warglaive proxy (model courtesy of u/johnbearross on reddit) is finally fully operational! catgirl very extremely excited about this one
Tumblr media Tumblr media
additionally, though I do need to print another warglaive and two helverins still, I've started on printing the bigger boy, a Questoris Knight Paladin proxy (model credits the same), something I've been excited to do for forever and the next step towards the biggest finalest goal; the Imperator Titan
Tumblr media
base and left leg printed (6h each), right leg in production (another 6h) (also I know the quality is bad because of the flash but my kitchen's lighting is awful and I promise without it looks worse) (don't mind the bag of rice in the bg, girl's gotta eat)
FINALLY, the most recent development in Ryuuka's Hobbying;
Tumblr media
MY BOYS??!??! MY BEAUTIFUL LOVELY SPECTACULAR BOYS????? THEY ARRIVED TODAY!!
bit of a story on this one, but first; I know that I told one of my dear friends like 6months ago that the next time I bought gunpla of get one for u too and we sat down and picked one out for u and everything and I didn't forget I swear but I shouldn't've even bought these boys since I have a lot of debt going on, the only reason I did is that on god man I need a distraction project or the depression is gonna Get To Me (not that it doesn't already but,) so like. When I actually have spare money instead of spending money I don't have I WILL get u that gunpla and we will build them together I didn't and am not gonna forget.
Okay so the deal with these boys is that I was talking to a friend recently about how I really like the appearance of Mass Production Mobile Suits over the special Gundam suits (unpopular opinion but I hate gundam suits' horns/crests, I think they look so so silly), in particular I love the look of the DaggerL and the Rgm-79 GM, but I really don't like the GM's helmet, I feel that it dramatically detracts from my man's vibes since the GM is made of angular and square segments and then the helmet is ROUND and also the visor is really large and open, giving it something of a 'friendly' (anthropromorphizing, I know) look that really doesn't suit the rest of it's design. In the same moment I was lamenting this design contradiction, a guncannon came on screen, which has a helmet with a narrower visor, and a- well I guess it's called a visor too but the shade thing some helmets have like a built-in imitation ballcap thing and anyway the Guncannon's head design gives it a much more 'serious' look that I feel would fit great on the GM, and the GM's more open and round design would fit right in with the Guncannon's rounded limbs and fuckoff huge shoulder-mounted cannon barrels.
So immediately in that conversation I had something of an epiphany of this and decided that I HAVE TO make a headswap of those guys and NOW IM DOING IT except what I need right now is a project so we're taking it a couple steps further
Tumblr media
I'm gonna trim these guys all out of the runners, file the nubs, label all the parts with masking tape and little baggies, swap the head parts, then going one colour/runner at a time, prime them black, paint them, panel line them, sticker them, top coat them, and ONLY THEN will I finally start assembling them
I've never painted a gunpla before but the best way to start is a headfirst dive into conkcrete babey let's get it
also I want to try weathering on my GM, nevermind that I've never tried it before and have no idea how, and each kit will be getting a different topcoat; glossy for the Guncannon because I want my boy to look like fun lil candy apple lad, and matte for my GM because I want it to be a semi-realistic Setpiece build.
also been thinking about utilizing the power of masking tape mid-painting process to add stripes of red to GM's arm&leg armour, but currently unsure if I want to follow through with the idea.
kay I think that's everything that's a lotta words I've been typing for forever it's 3am im not checking for typos I'm gonna sleep now goodnight gamers, nyan~

anyway I'd been planning to hold off on reading WonderLab, but like eight people recommended it over about two days, the friend I talked to throughout the whole time I was playing LobCo finally decided to read it yesterday morning, and then I ended up taking the day off work anyway and was too out of it to do anything that required effort, so I took this as a sign
p. good
the ground-level view of what all this stuff looks like in practice is handy. if I were more inclined to write fanfic in this setting I'd practically be weeping with joy.
I was entirely too amused by the whole insinuation that yeah, the Wizard of Oz critters and the magical girls had sets that could do Apocalypse Bird style stuff too, but they just sent their friends off to another facility to make life simpler so it never quite came up. I am also very torn about this because rounding out the magical girls would be great and Servant seems conceptually cool, so I'd love to see her in the game, but the Scarecrow/Woodsman already suck to work with and I don't think the thing they were missing was a way to make this everybody's problem.
the new abnormalities here really tread that kinda line in general. I suspect that there are some rejected ideas from the game in here, because a whole lot of these seem like they'd be nightmares to have in the game. 'every time this breaches it's going to take out anyone who has its gift' and 'only one person can work with this and it will inevitably kill them' and 'if this breaches literally everybody dies' stuff. I guess they can afford to be a bit more complicated in this kinda medium
Rose's end seemed like a pretty direct reference to the scene where Sayaka became a witch in PMMM, and the scene with Taii summoning the sword toward the end had some real Utena energy, so now I am wondering how many other anime references I'm missing in here.
Taii is cool as hell though. I mean all three of the core characters are good but I've got a soft spot for 'gentle nerd becomes a badass warrior (who's still a gentle nerd actually)'. with the way the first several arcs liked to introduce new characters and then kill them off, it took me an embarrassingly long time to realize that Rose and Taii were sticking around, and right around the time that I was convinced all three were gonna make it to the end..... that happened. I should've known better. if only one of 'em was going to stick around though, Taii was the right choice. I'd get mad if they killed them. Catt actually being afforded the opportunity to relax and connect with actual emotions again would've been really nice, but. look this is a hell company where good things go to die. I can't say I'm surprised it turned out like this.
also cool as hell: Shasha. and I feel like the company must have some kinda 'Disciplinary head's gotta have a cool eye scar' policy. all of the department heads made good use of what little screentime they got though.

I didn't read the whole list. 4, 9, 13, please?
ask game for fanfic writers [x]
(secret fact, I can never read too many question at a time on these long ones without pen & paper to write down my choices, or else I'll lose them by the time I go to whomever's inbox to ask them 0u0)
4. what is the plot bunny you’ve been carrying for the longest? optional bonus question: do you ever wonder why you haven’t written it yet and experience deep existential dread?
fghsjfh if we're talking fanfic, this prize might go to a Moomins (novel canon) fic I started thinking about at least fifteen years ago. It was a direct continuation from the end of Moominvalley in November, the last in the series, following Toft as he grows up. There were a few things I was doing with it: 1. I'm fascinated with characters like him who are unique beings (Toft is ambiguously orphaned and is compared to, but not of any, canon species) who have no way of knowing what stage of life they're really in, or how long their lifespan might be. I decided what Toft's parentage was. 2. Because of what Toft is, he was then in a position to lift a curse on someone else that I believe has basis in canon. 3. Endgame polyamorous pile of creatures. As one does.
I wrote around 5000 words of this thing, and it was good, damn it. It survived the deaths of three different computers and still exists on an external hard drive in a box somewhere. I stopped writing it for the usual reasons: got stuck, lost momentum, and forgot 80% of it. :/ My brain is a sieve, and yes, the existential dread is real.
For original work, it's a tie between KM and the Nightmare Story. Both of those date back to when I was 13 years old. Walk Twice is a little younger, but I started doodling what became the main character when I was 16. The reason none of these exist yet is basically just paralysis because art is hard, writing is hard, and all of these could/should involve both, unfortunately. Also I hate being perceived. I dunno, man. Bits of all of them exist, it's just... hard.
9. in an ideal world where you’re already super successful and published, would you want to see a tv or movie adaptation of your work? why or why not?
I'm gonna quote the Stardew Valley creators on this one and say, Only if Studio Ghibli is interested. (But seriously, it is one of my wildest dreams for that studio to pick up the Nightmare Story. Got your flying creatures, got your bizarre magical powers that work in cryptic ways, got sentient landscapes, got kids of various species saving each other - it's got a bunch of elements Miyazaki loves, why not??) I can't say I'd ever want to see live action for any of my stuff. It's not built for it, and I wouldn't want any actors' faces stuck to anyone.
13. talk about a writing experience that has pleasantly surprised you.
Uhhhhh hm, well, there is that special category of fic that springs fully-formed out of nowhere and simply works, just lets me write it in one go from start to finish. I have two of these on AO3; they are Vicious Circle and Black Tuesday.

When Summoned: Eh? We're having a party!? I'm not prepared for a surprise party!
Summon Line: I didn't expect anyone to celebrate my birthday here, i wonder if we're getting any gifts at all, it'd certaintly help with out negative budget
Groooovy!!: I never thought I would be flying in the sky but a tradition is a tradition, off we go!
Home: I still can't believe magic is real!
Home Idle 1: Usually i'd only get presents from my family so having people come up to me with gifts is a little weird if i'm honest.
Home Idle 2: ...huh? Oh, sorry for being a little quiet, the party is fun and all but i guess i miss our parents a little.
Home Idle 3: Azul-senpai said i could ask him for something but i'd rather not be near him at all.
Home Idle - Login: I still can't believe you and the ghosts put this whole thing together, i would have prefered to know but thank you for this!
Home Idle - Groovy: Vil-senpai is very knowledgeable, i guess that's why my sister goes to him for questions in some subjects.
Home Tap 1: My sister makes me wear different stuff all the time but i've never worn anything like this, it really reminds me of wizards from the books back home.
Home Tap 2: Miyu gifts me clothes all the time so she doesn't on our birthday, instead she gifted me a pencil case she made herslef with some school supplies and told me to stop stealing her stuff.
Home Tap 3: I wonder how they chose the flowers for the bouquet, i've read books about flower language so it's not like they don't represent me but i wonder about which meanings they meant to use for me.
Home Tap 4: Riddle gifted me an enciclopedia about law, he remembered i mentioned i wanted to know more of the laws of this world!
Home Tap 5: Does it bother me to share a birthday? Not really, if all the attention was solely on me all day long it'd be too bothersome on my routine.
Home Tap - Groovy: Since it's my birthday you won't make me worry, right?
Duo: [YUITO]: Thank you for the well wishes, senpai! [VIL]: May you enjoy your birthday, Yuito.
Birthday Login Message: Hm? Oh you wanted to say happy birthday? Thanks a bunch! I can't believe it's already been multiple months here i didn't think i'd get a birthday in Twisted Wonderland.
What do i want? Have you never celebrated someone's birthday before? You're supposed to get the gift before the say arrives not on the same day! I can't believe you left it last minute, Grim!

Hello!!!! I’ve been following you for ages and I know that you’re a big CritRole fan. I’ve never really been able to get into it, cuz the thought of going back and watching it all from scratch is supremely intimidating. However. I finished all of EXU Calamity in a weekend (and lost my entire fucking mind) and I’m really enjoying TLOVM show. Do you have any tips for watching any parts of C1, C2, or C3 in addition to that? Or would it be smarter to wait for C4 to start and go fresh from there?
Hello dear, lovely to hear from you. I hope you're doing well.
Critical Role is very intimidating to get into. I was fortunate that I got into it early on, roughly a year after they started filming, so it didn't take me as long to catch up. Anyone trying to get into it now is going to feel daunted, that's for sure. Unfortunately, D&D sessions do tend to run long, I know my group's average is 4 hours and we used to run for up to six when we had more open schedules.
Calamity is a fantastic place for any newbie to start. There are other oneshots and mini-campaigns they've done too, like Taliesin's eldtrich horror mini campaign, the Undeadwood campaign, and Marisha's Honey Heist and its sequel. Calamity introduces you to the world and is just. brilliant improv storytelling from all the players. but it's only six episodes for the complete story. So if anyone reading this ask wants to bite into a good tragedy and wants to know what the whole TTRPG craze is about, Calamity is a great one.
When it comes to the full campaigns... you kind of have to resign yourself to the fact that it'll take a while. Campaign four won't start for another year or two, and so you can wait until then, but that is a bit of time to hold out.
I would personally recommend you listen to campaign one. Campaign two seems to be the favorite for the majority of fans, but since you've already watched TLOVM, which is based on campaign one, that'll give you some background info and a baseline to help you get into the swing of things. The first few episodes will be a bit rough, since the cast is getting used to being filmed in a studio rather than hanging in a living room, but you'll be surprised by how fast you latch onto the characters.
Additionally, I think it's just fun to watch the cast journey from being in a spare room at the Geek & Sundry studios, to their own studio, slowly decorating that studio, then moving to a bigger studio, which is where they'll stay for campaign two. it's just nice, in my opinion, to see those little details as the show grows in real-time.
My friend recommends listening at 1.25 speed, and sometimes she speeds up the combat to 1.5 speed. You can also listen rather than watch, as some of my friends have done, so you can listen (either just put the video on and don't look, or they have created podcast versions of the episodes - nothing changed in content, just made it into an audio file to download) while doing other things like folding laundry. I prefer watching, to see facial expressions and nonverbal reactions, but given that this is a popular option among my friends, I don't think you'll miss anything too vital. And you can always supplement with YouTube compilation videos of reactions and favorite moments!
I can also say that it'll go faster than you think it will. You'll be surprised at how quickly you can blow through a few episodes.
So, yes, either wait a year or two, or resign yourself for a commitment, unfortunately that's kinda how it goes. You can't really skip episodes or only do "highlight" episodes since so much happens in each one, you can miss a lot of context. If that still intimidates you I'd really recommend diving into the other mini campaigns and oneshots they've done like Honey Heist, Undeadwood, etc.
Also, if you liked Calamity, then I recommend Dimension 20. Brennan Lee Mulligan is the game master for that crew, just as he was in Calamity, and their campaigns are a lot shorter. So that can also help you get into the TTRPG show groove. Their campaigns tend to run 15-20 episodes and the mini campaigns are around 6.
Again if you are going to dive into a full CR campaign I recommend the first campaign with Vox Machina since you already know the characters and a lot of the plot arcs - and it's fun to watch TLOVM when you've seen campaign one, since you can see how it's a truncated "this is the legend" version while the CR campaign is "now here's what really happened with these dumbasses." But campaign two is the more popular campaign so there's nothing wrong with starting there.
I hope that all this has been helpful! Good luck on your CR/TTRPG show journey!

10, 16, 18, 22 dinoverse?
10. worst part of fanon
You cannot belieeeeeve how much misogyny there is about Vanora that they'd make shit up about her.
You'd think reading her thoughts and input as the player character would make people's insight about her line up with canon but the whole thing is that she grows more and more out of player control and into her own choices as the chapters progress. Do not go into the vtsom fic tag worst mistake of my life but also someone had to be at the devil's sacrament.
Like yea she did. in fact. kill Vincent (deserved but also wooooooo my god... it was bound to happen to either of them and at the rate she's going she's gonna keep climbing bodies to get kicked down by Myers.) and manipulate Draco at the end to do the same but calling her abusive WHILE referring to their relationship before is insane I mean neurodivergent. His fixation and disillusionment of her isn't healthy💔
16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
Chaser Victor and happy family dads vinvic + son Draco for many reasons.
Mira's said this before but because I like Victor to an unhealthy degree (just like him fr) I'm kinda bummed he doesn't have any character outside of Vincent.
Which sort of makes sense within the context of his character and their til-the-end partnership but he's been having problems ingrained into him before RMU for sure. I'd like to see that it's insane I mean neurodivergent how they know each other better than anyone and are still stuck in the past. They're back at square 1 with never moving forward. (What's he gonna do when revenge goes through? Look at himself? no.)
Anyways I'm getting off-topic it creates conflict for sure which I love. If integrated into canon which is the direction it seems to be getting I'm sure dino will write in more for him but the way people write a chaser Victor just feels very ooc. You mean to tell me he would not tell Vincent?
That parts already gotten long so I'll summarize this stupid family shit + my kind little fucked up homonculi weapon who's also my brother and I make into my butler. I don't think they would make good parents so its so sucks when they turn Draco into a baby in fanart stop this madness
18. there should be more of this type of fic/art
ZALMONAAAAAAA ZALMONAS JOURNEY IN PROVING HER INNOCENCE. PLEASE PLEASE YOU'RE NOTHING SHE TALKS ABOUT A COUPLE OF AMUSING INCIDENTS IMAGINE G4S MOST WANTED CRIMINAL TELEPORTS INTO YOUR BATHHOUSE WITH YOUR COCK OUT PLEASEEEEE.
Honestly like who give a shit about the other districts that's something Dino should be writing about can we PLEASE get speculation on how the watch works. Is there a catch? does she get dizzy? What was her detective work like. I wanna replay chapter 3 because she's only had surface level info about Myers from the news so she had to do a lot of digging pleaseeeeee a parallel of her investigation and Vanora at Myers trying to cover stuff up would be so sweet.
22. your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores
Being in the tranches it's same as above where is.where the fuck is Zalmona where is her meanness her brashness. Where is that that never contradicts her kindness, if you reduce her to the strong dumbass trope I'll kill you. I miss my wife Nini.
I wanna say in that same vein would be Vanora but I'm pleasantly surprised by the amount of art she gets, maybe it's bcoz of my mutuals but it's nice. Zalmona gets that too but it's not to the same degree tbh. I dontlike most dinoverse fans honestly

i think people (not feminists) find reasons to hate on GoT because it's very "white lady" show about white female empowerment in that sort of culture, which can become a little white savior-y. But i personally like the books and show(s) because they use interesting metaphors to show how women gain power. Like dragons representing Daenerys' propagandized exoticism as a woman, her motherhood, and her pedigree. And how people will overlook a clearly female "messiah" for the dudes with big swords and money.
Hmmm, idk if I completely agree with what you said or even understand it all but I'll go ahead and springboard off this anon to muse a bit about the whole GoT/ASOIAF deal.
To start: I am completely neutral on what other people have to say about ASOIAF. I love those books, I think there's a lot of good stuff in there, I don't think they gotta be read. If a woman (or anyone) doesn't want to read them, totally get it. If a woman (or anyone) reads them and is like "yuck that was bad", I get it! different strokes for different folks! I am also high key critical, too, but I love to be critical. I enjoy taking apart media, whether I like it or not. I don't think there's a single thing on this planet I love unequivocally top-down. Everything has something you can raise an eyebrow at.
more under cut bc it's long....
I think a lot of people, including me, have a lot of good reasons to hate GoT. GoT was a very good adaptation for about 3 seasons, and then dropped off in quality. I'm one of the few who thinks it started getting bad in season 4, while others like to say it was good even until season 6 or whatever. idk cause I gave up on it. They made wild choices that didn't make sense, and they seemed to make choices that were just to be more shocking and violent than they needed to be. For example, the Red Wedding is already insanely brutal and shocking, but for some reason they had to write in Robb's boring love story, cutting the political intrigue of his supposed set-up with his actual wife, just to show some ass and then show a pregnant woman get stabbed in the belly. That fucking sucks so bad. That's bad adaptation, bad writing, bad tv. And that was in season 3, which I already said was still pretty good adaptation. So I got annoyed with GoT good and early, both as a lover of the books and a lover of television in general. I dropped off, but I would keep tabs on it, and delighted in the shitty fuck up it became in seasons 7&8. Still, it's infuriating to know that when it comes to the general public perceptions of some of these characters, the TV show is going to reign supreme.
Now, some feminists might be surprised at some of the female fans of ASOIAF since it's also, like, extremely brutal, violent, and full of rape. And it's true, and GRRM also has made some choices that are just blech. I hate Dany's wedding night scene with Drogo. That was a bad bad choice that hasn't aged well and never will. I guess if I had to choose that scene and a brutally violent scene, I'd choose the one we have, but honestly it would have been better if he just didn't write it. It's also such a strange choice bc in her next chapter it makes it pretty clear Drogo is rough with her going forward, so idk if the wedding scene was part editor's choice or what but it just is so uncomfortable to read. So yeah, GRRM makes some choices that I hate.
But honestly, he makes a lot choices I like. He excels at his mission, which is to write "character's in conflict with the heart." He shines there. And he's created this unbelievably detailed world and history that is really astounding. And even his exploration of misogyny and sexual violence is sometimes quite deft, it's just that it can also be clunky or oblivious a few pages later. But, he's a man, it comes as no surprise. Kinda like how Victor Hugo could write about the horrors of prostitution sympathetically and then go and be a frequent john. Men being men.
And I think ASOIAF has gotten a bit of a bad rep unfairly. Not that it doesn't deserve criticisms, cause it does, and not that women should read it or have to love it, because obviously not. But I think it has a misrepresentation that proceeds it because of 1. the show, which is just it's own mess, and 2. the popularity of calling the books "feminist" at the height of the show's popularity as a reaction to criticisms. It's not feminist, it can never be feminists: it is written by a man.
But if you enjoy fantasy, and want a long and winding series that has unbelievably detailed political intrigue (like it's crazy how the smallest actions and characters still impact the story!), with a deep lore that is surprisingly true to life (not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 different ethnic groups land in Westeros during it's history and they all matter to the culture, story, and plot?? insane I love it), and you want to be in the heads of female characters that treats their pain and suffering as real and important as best as a man could write it, well this has got some stuff for you to like. Otherwise, if you're meh on all of that and you don't want to read about sexual violence, skip it.
