people who say rory isn't a good friend to paris and paris deserves better because she's always calling herself rory's best friend and rory doesn't reciprocate are not serious at all paris decides unilaterally that they're not friends anymore and that she actually hates rory 15 times in the span of 7 seasons she throws her out of their apartment literally why would rory trust her more than she does

I've never related to Rory Gilmore, because she was beautiful and boys fell in love with her left and right, and I was ugly, and not much of a reader when I was young anyway. I've always regarded her as nothing more than a character in the show and took her relationships they way they were given to me, because I was never much into shipping non-canonical ships. So the discourse surrounding her now and the multitude of "the fall of Rory Gilmore" and "Rory sucks, actually", that people are coming up with nowadays seem to me a little excessive. Rory is a girl who grew up having the best of both worlds, really. The close relationship with her mother that Lorelei never had and the financial support of her extended family that Lorelei never had. She grows up sheltered and makes mistakes when she goes out into the world and experiences its different facets. She goes to college to pursue a childhood dream, but it's rare for a childhood dream to continue into adulthood, after one learns more about oneself, so she falters in her decision and takes time off school to figure out if it was really the right choice for her (normal, and I wish I had had to courage to do the same). Sometimes her boyfriends hurt her, and sometimes she hurts them too (Grey's Anatomy syndrome: this is how you can create conflict in a show that keeps people watching). She's a young woman finding her place in the world and she's not perfect, she's not evil, and she's not the model for every single young girl going to college. She's not my favourite character in Gilmore Girls but I think she's fine. I think she's a good character. I like some things she does, I hate some things she does, I'm annoyed by some things she does and I relate to some things she does, and I think the hate coming her way comes from: 1. people looking for clicks on their videos (fair enough, it's a jungle out there) and 2. people who don't have the money to go to a fancy university and hurt seeing her almost throw it all away (I understand, but a characters need internal conflicts, not just external, this is a good one, and sometimes art is uncomfortable).

Lorelai freaking out over Max spending the night because "our life as we know it will be over" is honestly one of the biggest signs she was going to run and it makes me so sad. She's so not used to having a stable relationship that the idea of blending her life absolutely terrifies her. I wish someone had helped her deal with things that scares her. Rory tried but she's SIXTEEN and it wasn't her job to confront Lorelai's inability to handle change. It wasn't her job to be a go between for Max and Lorelei because Lorelei has next to no ability to communicate like an adult. But Rory still tried and ended up heartbroken because she was excited to see her mom happy. To maybe FINALLY have this whole stable family situation that she's dreamed of forever. Instead they both end up emotionally torn apart and Rory ends up with YET ANOTHER scandal for the terrible shitheads at her school to use against her.

honestly other than the painfully brief thing between lane & dave, the only romance i think gilmore girls did well was luke & lorelei. i guess they put their whole pussy into those two & ended up with none left over for anybody else. SAD!
anyway all of rory’s boyfriends are disappointing at best, if there was ever anything worth being disappointed over. jess & rory were great at first in their friendship/flirtationship stage but once they actually got together they were just a mess. logan is just a rich asshole with a tendency to bring out the rich asshole in rory & i was tired of him from the moment he appeared on my screen. and not to be supernatural-phobic but dean was just boring & when rory dressed up as a stepford wife for their date that was!! creepy!!! all of paris’s boyfriends are terrible i can’t bring myself to remember their names but that professor was so gross :-( why? :-( and doyle is just… beneath her tbh (*cough* and she’s a lesbian *cough*). and that blonde boy lane dated after adam brody was no adam brody, sorry!! as for lorelei’s other boyfriends: christopher was just disappointment after disappointment. and max was fine actually.

Rafe x bimbo!reader yes but what about Rafe x scholar!reader who’s literally an academic weapon. And not Rory Gilmore type of academic weapon; Paris Geller type of academic weapon. She has it all decided. She knows where she wants to go. She knows how she’s going to do it. And she is already two steps ahead of her plans. And not only is she book smart, she’s street smart. Rafe doesn't know how he bagged her, but he did and he’s damn proud of that. He’s her biggest supporter, always being so proud of her when she tells him her insane test results. He drops and picks her up from the library, and always awaits her with her favorite pastries. And you best know he is cheering for her the loudest when she gets the title of ‘valedictorian’. It isn’t “oh my god babe you did it!”, but it’s “of course you did it, if not you, then who? I always knew you could do it.” He’s always showing her off to his friends. “Oh my girlfriend? Yeah she’s in town on semester break. Which college you ask? Harvard, where else?” If she’s staying up late at night to study, he’s staying up with her too. “Babe, you need a break?” “Just ten more minutes…” “Alright bub I’m waiting for you yeah? Don’t overwork yourself please.” He always helps her test herself, hiding his face behind her flashcard as she tells him her answer confidently, and then peering at her with the biggest grin as he kisses her cheek. “Yes, that's absolutely correct babe!” And you best know he’s holding her tight when she feels like she can’t do it anymore, and it’s all too tough. “Oh baby don’t cry yeah? You are so strong and so intelligent, you just need a break. And when you’ll get back, you’ll get back stronger. And you’ll do it. There’s no one I have more faith in than you.”
Bonus: if she’s doing a course which has more male students than female, she’ll come back home grinning telling him she scored better than all the guys in her class. “Of course you did! They’re all little dumb boys, but you, you’re my smart, intelligent girl.”

ok so since people didn’t cut my head off for my unpopular opinions i’m gonna expand on the second one. so for people in the gilmore girls fandom it’s pretty much the general opinion that luke is a saint for taking jess in and that jess screwed things up and that it’s his fault luke kicked him out. ”he got himself kicked out”. even people who like jess seem to think this is fair. so as someone who watches gilmore girls mostly for jess i have a different perspective that i’ve never actually vocalized but i figured maybe this little corner of the internet wouldn’t hate me for this, as long as it doesn’t make it out of here.
so i also first of all think that the fact that jess has to work at luke’s and graduate in order to stay there is a bit sad. like everyone around him his age has somewhere they can stay without conditions, and people wonder why he’s the only one worried about making money. and yes, it’s a fine idea in theory, he has to change his ways if he wants to stay with luke bc that’s the point of him being there, sure, but luke could stand to NOT always bring it up to jess during fights that can’t stay with him if he violates the conditions.
bc the thing is that luke very clearly makes it known that he doesn’t want jess there and that the whole situation is kind of a pain in his ass that he’s doing out of obligation. a minor is entitled to a place to stay where they can be an asshole unconditionally, actually, and they shouldn’t have to be constantly grateful to have that. and if luke didn’t want to fully commit and be that place, he should have said no to taking jess in. you don’t get to get all the praise for doing a good deed and then get all pissy about actually following through with it.
like i know luke and jess aren’t the main characters and that their scenes and dynamic are for comedy. but then they play off jess leaving as serious so i should be allowed to analyze their scenes seriously. and my conclusion is… luke is not that nice to jess LOL. like i can’t think of a single scene where he responds to him in any other manner than pissed off or annoyed. he never stops treating him like a bad kid. we know luke cares about jess but does jess have any reason to believe that? or does he think this is all for liz? like i know their scenes are jokes but for someone who complains so much about what a difficult person jess is to connect with, i think luke missed a lot of moments to do it.
luke taking jess in in general is nice, YES, but i’m not talking about just good intentions here. and i know that it was a very good intention but i, again, just super dislike the whole ”you wouldn’t have anywhere to stay if it wasn’t for me, so watch it”-attitude. even in season 4 luke basically said that jess had to come to liz’ wedding because he was there for him when no one else was. and i think that’s a shitty thing to say to someone who deserved more. i know luke didn’t have to do it bc he’s not his parent and that’s why people forgive him and not liz, who is his parent and did have to do it. but i think luke agreed to be jess’ parent and if he didn’t want to, he could have said no to his sister for once in his life. anyways, i think i’ve made my point.
also, i love you luke, my world just revolves around your nephew. i know i’m putting a lot of unrealistic expectations on a guy who’s pretty emotionally constipated. and he did come through with the big things, like giving jess money in sesson 4. but i’m talking about the little things that could have made even more of a difference. just don’t get it twisted ok, luke and jess’ relationship is my fave on the show, i may like it even more than rory and jess’, but when i enjoy something i analyze it. so don’t think i don’t love them, because i do! i just want to squash the idea that luke did everything he could but that jess ultimately was too difficult, because i disagree with that.

Hiya! So first, what I was reading over the summer were some new fandoms that I'm still mulling over. Those ships and fics, I'm not ready to recommend anything for, I'll come back to them later.
As you know, I find it hard to pick out faves and recommend things but coincidentally, some time back, when I hadn't read fics for years, I decided to see which I could easily remember. It’s not close to being an exhaustive list, I just noted down whatever came to me over a few hours, and almost all are pretty old, often from my first go-around in each fandom, but it’s a fair number. I've read other great ones that might not be as easily remembered for any number of reasons, like if I was in a particular frame of mind or if I read too many good ones at once so none really stood out, if I read them in between other things going on in life, etc. These ones slotted into the ole memory bank but that doesn't say anything about those left off.
I'm not sure how many of these are fandoms you're into, but when I'm in a real fic-reading mood I'll often try fandoms I don't know, so hopefully you can still give some of them a shot. I tried to organize by fandom though they're mostly in the order I remembered them, so it's not alphabetical or fave first--though it did end up being pretty chronologically backwards. I was literally going back through the years and I don't think I've read some of the anime ones in like, more than a decade? And while for my own list, I often was like oh, all of that author's fics for this ship and would know what I meant, here I tried to narrow it down to one fic per author, since it can be hard to know where to start, but definitely give their other fics a try if you liked that one.
Added a cut for length. All stories are f/f and complete unless specified. As I go through some of these, let me come back here to add that it’s worth keeping in mind as you read these that they are products of their time, some more than a decade ago. 
Gilmore Girls - Paris/Rory
The Best Of It - by dollsome - 74k words » Canon, fake dating, set after the original series (so ignoring A Year in the Life). To win a point on a talk show, Paris announces she's dating Rory. It's incredibly in voice and matches the show vibe so it's just so funny and sweet and just a plain delight. It's what actually made me create this list, I was idly wondering what else I'd read that brought me this much joy.  
Boston Marriage - by Jae - 5k words » Canon, college years, Paris has a proposal. The first fic for this ship I read, I think? Where I was like, oh, so it’s possible to be that in voice and replicate everything about a show even as distinct as this one. One of the ship’s classics (and being from 2005, just a f/f classic overall?).    
The Unbearable Weirdness of Being - by klynkey - 3k words » Canon, assumed high school years, Rory and Paris get into a debate. After having read the one above, I found this soon after and was like, okay, is everyone able to easily replicate that Gilmore Girls patter? (No.) Another ship classic.
Agents of Shield - Bobbi/Jemma
To Keep My Wolves From Your Door - by pirateygoodness - 41k words » Werewolf AU, so elaborate and for a ship so relatively rare, I’m not sure how this exists but I’m glad it does. It’s got some plot, a sweet romance, smut with feelings, just a rewarding read every time I go back to it, which is pretty often. Given my main audience, I’ll mention there are some flashbacks to Bobbi and her ex husband but that didn’t affect my enjoyment at all.  
Soulmate AUs (just chapter 2) - by alittleunstable - 3k words » Canon, cute little soulmate AU, which I’m always a sucker for. 
Star Trek Voyager - Janeway/Seven of Nine
Where the Dream Takes You - by nejvit - 27k words » Canon, one of the tamer getting together Trek setups, more introspective rather than caused by some alien tomfoolery, but I really like how it handles the very commonly featured J/7 conflict of Janeway dating someone in her crew. It is a bit dense but I found the character and dynamic exploration so insightful and interesting. When I first read J/7 fics years ago (in the late ‘00s), this author’s fics didn’t particularly stand out but when I came back to the fandom more recently, they were among my very favorite.  
The Rod and the Staff - by Trek in Tandem - 13k words » Canon, deals with the aftermath of an existing ep where Janeway went on a mission and ran into trouble. The religious stuff comes across as more the writer playing with the episode’s actual religious references than anything heavy-handed so I found it easily ignorable. Really great, clean prose, one of the writers who always stuck out to me for that.    
Not Just Strip Poker - by Pink Rabbit Productions - 15k words » Canon, a funny, lighter piece that definitely starts out as full comedy, after a misunderstanding, but there’s some deceptively interesting discussion later on in this one too.
Stargate SG-1 - Janet/Sam
Bits and Pieces series - by Pink Rabbit Productions - 278k words, WIP » Canon, this series integrates Sam/Janet into the first season of the show and I don't think it was ever finished, and the last one especially was left on a cliffhanger, but the rest of the “episodes” are worth the read. Also, when I put this down for my own list, I just said "Pink Rabbit's Sam/Janet stuff", because I remember going through all of them at some point, the stuff outside this series was fun too, and if this full incomplete series is too daunting, definitely some of the one-shots might be more fun.
The Devil Wears Prada - Andy/Miranda
Truth and Measure - by Telanu - 272k words » Canon, diverges from the end of the movie as Andy decides to stay with Miranda. What even is there to say about this one? A true f/f classic, has been in the top three of my general f/f recs for more than a decade and still holds up. Just a perfect continuation of the movie, same world, same characters, continuing growth and development of characters and dynamics, a true believable slow burn romance. And the author’s published it without taking down the fic. :)
Facts of Life - Jo/Blair
Ribbon - by Della Street - 15k words » Canon, diverging in the college years. This is the first of her fics I read for this pair and I fell in love with her writing. Back in an era when a lot of authors started off with lots of exposition and setting up the scenario, I was so impressed by how quickly and easily she did her worldbuilding and character development, and how in-voice and and close to the show everyone was. Definitely recommend going through the rest of her Jo/Blair fics.
Birds of Prey (2002) - Barbara/Helena
And Another Thing - by fembuck - 12k words » Canon, a straightforward getting together fic, things come to a head after Helena starts pulling away. After seeing which of the fics I remember best and like most here, I think I really just favor a great execution of a simple premise. And because this is fembuck, whose fic was a load bearing pillar of f/f fandom, there’s a nice balance of humor and angst with the romance.    
An Empirical Question - by harper_m - 30k words » Canon, an accidental fake dating situation spins out into something much more. In a funny coincidence, the same things I said about fembuck apply to harper_m, such a significant contributor to f/f fic over the years (see also this older archive account). This fic is again mostly a well done exploration of the characters and their dynamic if suddenly an explicitly romantic layer was added to canon.
Skins - Effy/Katie
An Imperfection in an Otherwise Perfect Plan - by harper_m - 21k words » WW1 AU, they’re nurses in the army. As with the Mockingnerd werewolf AU above, I’m surprised that for such a rare ship, there’s such a specific (and good) AU, but definitely not complaining. It feels that much nicer to find a true gem in such a tiny collection.    
fate is overgrown - by thememoriesfire - 53k words » Post-series, years later, Katie’s in a rut and stumbles into Effy again. I do find it funny that I have no Glee rec from TMF and instead went for the Skins fic that isn’t even transatlanticism but I really love this one, to the point where there were a couple of months where I just reread it constantly, even downloading my own version to fix formatting and typos. It’s almost slice of life, as Katie and Effy find themselves surprisingly healing together, after their fraught history. 
The Sarah Connor Chronicles - Sarah/Cameron
Resistance - by Anklebones - 120k words, WIP » Canon, diverges from season 2 as Cameron continues to glitch. Like a lot of the good Sarah/Cameron fics, this is a great dissection of AI and sentience and what it means to be human and have free will. I mean, within a great story, not just characters debating. It’s not finished but I really like what’s been written so far.   The author also has a three-part complete fic where Sarah and Cameron are already in a messy thing and then have to confront some things when there’s an attack at school: Just Another day in Paradise… 1 2 3 (19k words).    
No Rest for the Wicked - by InspectorBoxer - 172k words, WIP » Firefly AU, River Tam takes the place of Cameron while Sarah’s a new character to the universe. This is such a fun blend of the two universes and the romance is such a good slow build. As with most of the WIPs I’m linking, there’s enough to really enjoy even if not complete yet.
Once Upon a Time - Emma/Regina
The Secret's in the Telling - by pyrophoric - 250k words » Canon, set pretty early on but where Emma and Regina are at least nominally getting along. Things are set into motion when a mysterious thief shows up and keeps bullying Emma. This is one of my favorite iterations of their dynamic, with long-suffering secretly fond Regina and hapless too-earnest Emma.    
You do not have to walk on your knees - by dollsome - 10k words » Canon, mid-season 2, Regina and Emma learning to get along. As is dollsome’s specialty, a lot of character work and humor. Also would recommend Teenage ... Dream? (12k words), where Regina gets like...kind of emotionally aged down? You’ll see. The premise sounds cracky but again, the character exploration and humor and sweetness. :)
Once Upon a Time - Aurora/Mulan
a story, a tale - by maleficently - 27k words » AU where it’s Maleficent who casts the original curse on Aurora and her true love, not Regina on Snow and Charming. This is so fun because you can see all the similarities and differences in how the story unfolds compared to the show, including flashbacks to the fairy tale world before the curse is cast.    
Object Permanence - by badlance - 18k words » Canon, after Aurora and Phillip have made it to Storybrooke. Aurora’s still furious at Mulan for leaving them to go off with Robin Hood, but suddenly something happens to Mulan and Aurora can’t stop thinking about her. It starts off an interesting look at Aurora and how someone acclimatizes to the real world after Fairy Tale Land so like, therapy, jobs, but it’s quite romantic and sweet in the end.   Also Could Have Been A Year (5k words) and its sequel Bear It Out Even to the Edge (17k words), where Mulan learns the price of staying away from Aurora and gives up everything to make sure Aurora’s okay.
Wicked - Elphie/Glinda
Gelphie Trilogy: 1. Easier Said Than Done 2. Inevitabilities & Eventualities 3. Possibilities and Certainties - by mecelphie - 3.8m words » Rape trigger warning for the very first chapter: Elphie suffers a violent attack and much of the first story is her healing from that, though the other two stories also occasionally bring up the lingering effects on Elphie.     Back when I read it, the first story had some typos, missing punctuation and the like, that might also make it hard for some to get into it, but the world really unfolds into something incredibly rich and rewarding. Note that full series word count, it IS that detailed and extensive a story, almost slice of life, except for the precipitating event and things like homophobia and when Elphie's background is tackled. I haven't actually finished it yet, I pause every once in a while till I have a large chunk of chapters and then reread from the start and get sucked in anew each time.    
The Thrill, Basis Determined - by Ridiculous Mavis - 24k words » Bookverse, just delightful, beautifully written fluff. Everything this writer writes is beautiful. The further down I go on this list the less restraint I feel in linking multiple stories by the same author, so of her other Gelphie fics, I'll also specifically rec The Way Out of Myself (22k words), bookverse bodyswap with Avaric and Elphie where they both learn something about the other and Invitations Under False Pretences (27k words, WIP), bookverse fake dating, it's not marked as complete but it doesn't leave you hanging, if you know what I mean.    
The Week of Ill Repute - by Chudley Cannon - 37k words, WIP » Bookverse again, which, I don't prefer them over musicalverse, it's just worked out that I've remembered (liked?) these fics best. This one I remember from my very first Gelphie fic-reading tour and thinking, wow, this is so good. It never updated after that and I believe it actually does leave you hanging, but I mean, you specifically remember a fic more than 10 years later, it's gotta be on the list, right?
The Bletchley Circle - Millie/Susan
In the Blackout - by RidiculousMavis - 11k words » Canon, set during the Bletchley years, Susan’s just arrived and meets Millie, her flighty and irreverent roommate. A wonderful look at how they start to get along after their personalities and keen minds first clash.    
Clerical Work - by Kivrin - 3k words » Canon, also set during Bletchley, Susan tries to figure out her feelings the way she would a code and then things fall into place in a surprising way. Relatively short but I loved the sharp little characterizations of the main four, including Jean.
Legend of the Seeker - Cara/Kahlan
All the Days - by tcbg77 - 67k words » Post-series, some years after, everything seems to be going well until Richard and Kahlan’s child is kidnapped. Cara, now Richard’s general, sets off with Kahlan to rescue the child. I love the pacing of this one, the length allowing for a full quest and a slow burn, and combined with the well-written action makes it seem like a fantasy story with romance on its own. I basically treat it as exactly that and reread every few years.    
Within My Heart There Is Another Heart - by badlance and pirateygoodness - 26k words » Post-series as well, magic pregnancy. This is pretty in a way that makes my heart ache. i was surprised to see it was 26k words, since it feels so much longer and shorter than that at the same time.
The 100 - Clarke/Lexa
Within Me An Invincible Summer - by badlance - 62k words » Canon post-s2, Clarke gets over her anger at Lexa. One of the many great fics written during the hiatus, I’d put off reading it when I first got into the ship, during the start of s3, wanting to focus on what was canon at the time. And then of course 307 happened and I moved even farther away from canon, but this fic, its two-line summary, it showed up again and again in rec lists and bookmarks and was so haunting at the time, you know, seasons and people not changing, but finally I caved, and it was as wonderful as it had promised to be.    
Love on the Ground - by hedaswolf - 19k words » Also canon post-s2, taking the s3 knife scene from the trailer and again spinning it into eventual forgiveness. There’s a bit in it that is one of my favorite moments in fic ever.     
they take their shots but we're bulletproof - by nightshifted - 10k words » Again, canon post-s2, it’s like a whole genre of amazing fics just within one fandom, all the more precious for how that all turned out in canon. Like Within Me An Invincible Summer above, I couldn’t bear to read it for a long time but I knew it was one of the classics, I’d seen it pass by my dash very early on because of our shared Glee past. And yeah, it was very good, like all these post-s2 fics, allowed to be a little rougher and harsher because they didn’t yet know how much comforting the ship and fandom would need.    
More Women than Warriors - by steklir - 172k words » Boarding school AU, new American student Clarke arrives at a British boarding school where Lexa’s the Head Girl. I don’t know what was going through the author’s mind when they were writing this but given the timing and content, it felt like an extremely low stakes and ultimately fluffy take on these two kids. There’s a lot of the show’s language and customs worked into this school, so that only adds to the impression, but in the end I’ll remember this for being a rewarding sloooowwww burn and really flowery, pretty writing.    
Stud: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, Pride - by coeurdastronaute - 61k words » Modern AU, Clarke’s a teacher and Lexa’s a CEO. Really plays into the effortlessly cool Stud!Lexa thing that was going around at the time, but tbh, she was confident but nice, so I liked it. coeurdastronaute tends to write most chapters as self-contained, so it’s more like a string of connected stories than one long narrative. They’re super prolific and have a lot of stories I liked, I picked Stud as the one I remembered first, and then grabbed a few of the other more memorable ones, all modern AUs: Strip:  1, 2, 3 (10k words) -  Lexa gets a lapdance HSAU (37k words) - College AU, I’m kidding, high school AU Heart: 1, 2, 3, Thanksgiving (30k words) -  Lexa’s a heart transplant patient at the hospital where Clarke works    
Aftermath - by MaraudingTurkey - 8k words » Canon, diverging from the middle of s2, Clarke accidentally courting Lexa. It’s super charming and cute (and because of how early it was written, avoids a lot of the angst to come).    
Prompts Collection: Clexa - by nutalexfanfic - 114k words (as of 2022-12-30) » Lots of various short stories with all kinds of premises, canon and AUs. The author has several popular longer stories going as well, but they’re at various levels of completion and I actually remember really liking of the one-shots here. If interested in the longer ones, the firefighter AU Polis 433 (131k words, WIP) is quite popular, and I think the first one I read was the Olympic AU Individual Medley (95k words, WIP).    
Abby Doesn't Ask - by onlyasdark - 3k words » Canon, some vague point past 307 where Lexa doesn’t die, short vignettes in Abby’s POV. I’m told the canon amnesia fic is quite good but I’ve not yet felt emotionally up to it.

It feels like a lot of fics--most writing in general, really, tends to flatten itself to not stand out and it was nice to read something so strong.

Clarke’s the new art therapist at a school for troubled kids and realizes things aren’t quite right. It’s beautiful and romantic and a great fic for those who wanted their connection from the movie to go further.
Glee - Quinn/Rachel
This Kiss - by poetzproblem - 141k words » Canon, set in s2, starting from a game of spin the bottle. Rachel and Quinn are shaken by their kiss and Quinn especially doubles down on her mean girl persona. Faberry’s had a lot of great fics and I’ve loved so many but I remember thinking while reading this one that this is probably how it would go, if it ever happened. It’s patient and takes its time and is one of my definitive fics for them.     Also the Don’t Blink series (788k words as of 2023-01-13) is this expansive, ever-growing universe set after graduation. I haven’t read it all, but I’ve reread some of the earlier parts many times, for the super rewarding payoff to them realizing their feelings are mutual, and others finding out about them.    
A Family of Trees - by powergrapes - 8k words » Canon, diverging after s1, Quinn keeps Beth. Rachel’s somehow the only one the baby will calm down for and Quinn is reluctantly forced to call on her for help. It’s sweet and funny, my favorite from this writer but they’ve written several great fics, most popular being Head Full of Doubt, Road Full of Promise ( 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 - 60k words), a real Faberry classic, where to cheer up Quinn up after giving up Beth, the club goes on a road trip.     
Summer Mornings (oldest chapters at bottom) - by freshtilapia - 35k words » Canon, post-s1, we follow Rachel every morning of her summer vacation as she sees Quinn pass by on her daily run. Slowly they begin to hang out and bond. I think this was one of my first Faberry fics? I was a late bloomer, it took me a while to see their potential, but I really loved how authors saw their post-s1 dynamic and this was a super cute, endearing version of it.    
Boats in the Sky - by WaveGoodbye - 39k words » Canon, diverging after s3, now both in college, Rachel and Quinn are actually friends. Such good friends that Quinn’s roommate thinks maybe there’s something more. As with Clexa above, it’s so interesting how much character dynamics and fandom attitudes change depending on when a fic is written, because unlike the tension in s1 or s2 fics or Quinn being strung so tight with internalized homophobia, now she’s chill, they’re getting along. I love seeing a fic starting with them as friends, plus, a good chunk of it is external POV, which is a fave.    
Our Brilliantly Tangled Thanksgiving - by Elly-Bells - 4k words » Canon, diverging from s1, Quinn has kept Beth--actually, kind of AU too, because her parents are super nice here as well. But it’s just a super fluffy, super cute funny little fic. The author has a fair number of other fluffy fics of varying length to check out as well.    
Crazy on You -  by roxystyle011 - 82k words » Canon, futurefic written early on, Rachel’s a big celebrity now but gets into trouble and is court ordered to see a therapist, who turns out to be Quinn. This is written so early on I’m not sure if people would consider it the most in-character fic out there, though what is in-character when it comes to Glee, but it’s bold and fun and, as with the Clexa multiverse fic above, I just like when people take big swings with characters. There’s a moment near the end of the fic, when a certain page is turned, that still remains one of my favorite, most memorable reveals in fic to this day.
Dune - Chani/Irulan
Serendipity - by Tamoline - 26k words » Canon divergent, Duke Leto survives and Irulan ends up living in the Atreides household as a guest, while Paul is openly with Chani. When Irulan is called off world to testify, Paul sends Chani as her bodyguard. I’m always so grateful that I picked that year to randomly go through the f/f Yuletide entries because this is such a good fic and I could so easily have missed it completely. It’s got politics, action, enemies to lovers, just this great little novella that happens to be set in the world of Dune. It’s fics like this that have me going through the lesser kudosed out there because it’s a genuine fave.

The Art of Transformation - by siyentista - 30k words  » Mangaverse, mostly, Soi Fan is injured during a big battle and Yoruichi realizes how much Soi Fan means to her. Despite an action-filled start, it settles into more of a slower character-centric fic, lighter and often comical. Given their canon relationship, it’s refreshing to see the dynamic be more mutual and balanced, and despite the relatively short length, the story feels satisfyingly built up (perhaps because of how much history they already have in canon?).

It’s a great character exploration and the writing’s so sharp and pretty.

The Place Between - by PsiCygni - 309k words » Canon, set before the movie, Uhura needs an advisor for her project and Commander Spock needs a partner while negotiating with a particular alien species. The only answer? Fake dating! Slowwww burn and since I like both the characters in all their forms, an enjoyable fic.
And ya know, however old some of these might be, if you liked them, think about leaving a nice review. I had a saved fic from a site that’d gone down and like, more than 10 years after it was written I sent an email to the address provided and actually got a reply!

There are around a little less than three full sentences that you’ve conjured up to say to your boyfriend. In your haste of being quick (and dramatic) after considering Jungkook’s schedule, you were NOT ready for the conversation you needed to have.
One would assume you’re only running away from your problems which would still be okay because then you’d have time. The time you need to spend, sincerely thinking about exploring your options.
Things may seem bleak now but there’s always daylight after a dark night. Unless, you account for the Arctic Circle during summers, then this analogy doesn’t make sense, but you know you have a thing for cliches and the dramatic.
“_____, bloody shower already! Wash your hair so I can dye it tomorrow!” Sana’s screech brings you out of your thoughts.
“I’m not sure I want to dye my hair, Sana, bleaching itself is scary...” - “Bleaching is the only scary part, genius. And I already bought pink dye and purple shampoo for you!”
“I’m sorry,” you frown.
Sana softens at your guilt-ridden demeanour, “Hey, it’s no biggie, it doesn’t expire until next year. I’m sure I can get Jungkook to convince you. You’ll have matching hair colours! It’s fucking cute, babe.”
Sana smiles sweetly. “Now, shower. Now, now.”
“I will! Soon.” You pout.
“Okay! See you in the hall room.” She pats you on your butt before strutting away.
You swear your indecisiveness is genetic. As much as you’d like to blame your family for yet another thing from a really long list of ‘defects’, it’s pointless and a waste of time. All of this was on you. And Yuna. And Jungkook, but mostly yourself.
Taehyung has called to check on you twice now and unsurprisingly, he refuses to disclose any details about what you might have to prepare for. ‘I’d much rather you speak directly to Jungkook, I really don’t want to risk changing your mind for the worse—or better. Just know I will continue being your friend no matter what comes out of this,’ he had said.
And that got you wondering.
Are you truly prepared for the ‘worse’ outcome?
You don’t want to deal with a breakup and you don’t want to deal with Yuna. It’s highly unlikely that you may never see her or Jungkook again after your presumed, hypothetical breakup. It’d kill you to see Jungkook still around the person who kinda sorta pushed you, his presumed and hypothetical ex-girlfriend, away.
Honestly, deep down, you really wouldn’t blame him if he stuck with her.
If you had a relationship like Jungkook and Yuna’s, you’d struggle to ‘choose’ as well. You don’t expect him to throw away years’ worth of a friendship for or at the cost of a two-month long relationship.
At the same time, you would most likely disintegrate if you saw them become more than just best friends. You almost retch at the imaginary scenario.
How funny would that be? Very not.
Instead of getting yourself worked up over what may be, you Rory Gilmore it up.
You make a ‘pro and con’ list.
It sounds unethical to base your decision to date or not to date on a list of whatever reasons, which could very well end up being shallow and more logic based than your emotions and feelings.
Lucky for you, you don’t have a single logical bone in your body. You’re frantic and last minute. The most planning you can do for this ‘conversation’ is this, no doubt, very trustworthy ‘pro and con’ list.
Jungkook communicates with you solely over text and it’s a lot less frequent than usual. It’s awkward because he doesn’t try to push anything on you and you didn’t expect it.
You can’t help but think he may slowly be pulling away from you.
The distance has done nothing but make you miss him and want him more but you’re worried it’s only because you’re afraid of losses and change. You’re scared he doesn’t feel the same for you. You don’t want to be on a different page than him.
Before you psych yourself out over the possibility of Jungkook not wanting to be with you, you prepare for your little list.
The notepad you use to scribble on was on Sana’s desk, out of your reach.
You frown, not wanting to move from the comfortable blanket and throw pillows you were tucked under.
You think about ringing Sana but you had bothered her enough with tucking you in earlier that day, so you forgo it.
Then, you mentally list your cons of breaking up--- you’d miss him, this would wreck you, it would possibly wreck him, Yuna would swoop in, Jungkook and Yuna would form a hate club and then they would kiss. 
The pros would be--- you will not go through an emotional break up that would destroy your routine for a while, Jungkook realises he liked Yuna all along and it’d be harder for him to break it off with you because he is the nicest man you've ever met.
And now, you realise you lack a clarity of thought and all your thoughts are based on your insecurities.
You want to call Dr. Min but it seems a little excessive and spineless to ask him what you should be talking about with Jungkook.
Thought dumping is always an option. You could leave it all up to Jungkook. Whatever his decision is, goes.
This is coming from a very cowardly side of you--- letting other people take control of you and your life. It’s difficult to unlearn something you’re so used to doing. Recognising it is a good first step, though. So says Dr. Min. You owe him your life for the changes he’s making for you.
You confessed to him how grateful you were but he’d insist it was a collaborative effort.
In all honesty, you want Jungkook so badly. You want to be consumed by him, give into him. And if you put your insecurities away, you would stop running from this wonderful man. You can acknowledge his inexperience but it’s not like you’re any better. In fact, you’re more childish than he is. You don’t know any better than he does.
It’s still a young relationship and it’d be such a shame if it ended so suddenly without reason.
The only aspect you need closure in is this inner war you have with yourself.
Again, it doesn’t happen overnight.  ‘Rome wasn't built in a day, but it burned in one.’ (I forget who says this.)
You despise those “self love” mantras--- love yourself, you’re beautiful, you’re perfect, believe in yourself, you’re enough, you deserve better--- it’s all a load of bollocks.
You know relationships are hard work, you know you have a lot to sort out within yourself, you know you have a lot to tell Jungkook about yourself and it’s never going to be perfect. Nothing is perfect.
In a way, you’re grateful for the little bumps because it trains you for future adversaries (?) too dramatic? No?
The little tremors reassure you that you’re on the right track. If it were all smooth and seamless, you’d be more suspicious and paranoid. Ironically, those are factors you experience now as well. For a different reason.
“Hey, doll.”
Your eyes blinked open. Was your brain messing with you or did you actually hear Jungkook?
You crane your neck up from the soft pillows. The pillows and blanket did not aid you in any way, pushing you down further.
“Jungkook?”
“I hope you don’t mind me coming to you first---” He paused at your expression.
Your face was a true index of your mind. Erratic. Disbelief. Confused. You swore you had decided to meet the following day.
“See, I waited till today and I couldn’t stop myself.” He continued.
You establish that he’s here. It settles in.
In a way, this is great, you aren’t overwhelmed by anxiety from waiting and overthinking more than you already have.
For some reason, you aren’t upset that he showed up before decided. After all, you did miss him.  
Sitting up on your bed, you watch him awkwardly shift his weight from one leg to another, debating on taking a step closer to you.
You’re really happy to see him yet you contemplate running into the bathroom to avoid him for a bit but immediately shoot that thought down.  
It’s only insecurity about your appearance. You wished you didn’t look like you hadn’t showered or slept or eaten well in three days.
The silence is so loud when the closing of the front door breaks it, indicating Sana’s leave. She gave you privacy.
“I had begun to forget what you looked like. It’s been so long.” Jungkook almost whispered.
It had been a little over two weeks.
The mention of your looks made you a little self-conscious.
“_____.”
“Hm?”
“Tell me what you’re thinking about... please. Do you want me to leave? I’ll come back tomorrow; I swear.”
You stretch your legs out on the bed, revealing your thick, fuzzy socks and unshaved legs. It didn’t bother you at the moment because you didn’t notice it.
You point to Sana’s bean bag with your toes, directing him to make himself comfortable. You hope she won’t mind and make a note to wipe it down just in case. He obliges.
Discreetly adjusting your night dress over your thighs under the blankets, you stare directly into his panicked looking eyes.
"_____..." He starts again. Bur you cut him off.
“Honestly?” You begin, “I’m a little annoyed.”
“Because of me?” Jungkook points to himself with his thumb.
You frown, “Kind of? But not really. I don’t know.”
“You don’t know?”
“No, I meant--- Jungkook, I thought- I had your word. About tomorrow? Not today.” You stutter, unsure of your tone.
“I know- it’s an asshole move to just, ignore you and force you to talk to me and I promise you, I will leave immediately if you don’t want me here. I just wanted to make sure you’re OKAY. I wanted to make sure you’re still… I don’t know- here, with me.” He looks worried but so well rested. Fresh? And pretty.
You would have no idea he was this worried just by looking at him.
You furrow your brows, “I won’t deny that it was an… asshole move, as you put it, but...“ You struggle to maintain eye contact with him. “I am happy to see you. I missed you.”
Those words came as a relief to Jungkook, who now had a small smile graced on his lips, “You are so important to me.” It was the most random afterthought.
Your eyes welled up at that. It wasn’t supposed to happen this early on?#&!@
“That feels good to hear.” You respond weakly. “But, I have so much to tell you. Ask you. But, mostly tell you.” You pause, “I want you to be prepared to take everything in.”
“I promise you, I’m here. I’m with you.” Jungkook extends his hand for you to hold.  
You restart your sentence thrice before getting a hang of what you’ve half heartedly rehearsed.
“It’s a shame I don’t have a cocktail in my hand right now,” you nervously laugh.
Jungkook playfully scoffs, “Can I sit with you?” You pause, “No, I haven’t showered yet.” “That’s okay.”
You smile at the ground. “I have to start with, like, my upbringing, my family life, relationship- whatever.”
Jungkook tilts his head forward to indicate he was attentive.
“I haven’t had the best role models as a child. I’m lacking in many ways and I doubt I will ever feel completely confident in myself, at least for now. And none of this is-“ You find an object or something, anything to focus on. To compose yourself. Jungkook’s finger tattoos. His hands distract you for a second before you get back on track. “It’s not your fault. And it’s not your responsibility to make me confident. I know, I’m the only one who can change that.”
You can see it on his face that he disagrees with something you said but the floor is yours at the moment. He respects it.
“So, I’ve never really had anyone tell me that I’m doing okay? I swear I can explain this better...“ You scoff to yourself.
“Don’t worry.” Jungkook reassures you. “You’re good.”
Jungkook contemplates whether or not to ask to sit closer to you. He shook his head and let you lead him instead.
“Wow, I hate being this vulnerable. Ahh….” You pause for only a second or two, not wanting to break your flow.
“I have never been sure about anything in my life, stuff most people would find easy to, uh, operate through. I didn’t know where I’d be now a year ago, I could never plan for anything. I don’t have plans. I don’t have a goal or a dream. And, I didn’t know if that was… normal or okay.”
“You know? Things like, do I want to study more or take a break? What am I good at? What can I do that would help me in any way in life? How do I, I don’t know, grow a backbone…? Am I even stable enough to bring another person into my life?”
“Just the usual stuff.” Jungkook interrupts.
You smile a little, “Sure.”
“Up until I started therapy with this really great psychiatrist. Min Yoongi. That’s his name,” You looked up at Jungkook, feeling your lower lip quiver, “And he- I think, I mean I know this is incredibly weird but he has taught me a lot more in months than my parents have in years.” You squeeze your eyes shut.
You try not to let it affect you but fail. It’s a reaction you’re far too familiar with when you mention or even think of your parents. Even in passing.
A sob escapes your lips. “I feel guilty for talking about them this way. They have given me everything they could. I’m not ungrateful. I don’t want you to think I-”
“_____, I understand what you mean. Nothing you say right now will change my feelings for you.” Jungkook attempts to comfort you.
He was lucky enough to have the privilege of being paid attention to and loved. He knows this very well.
Besides, he wouldn’t dare make assumptions about you even if you kicked a child in their face.
You chew on your inner cheek to stop yourself from breaking down, “I respect my parents as people. I really, really do but I can’t go back to them. I can never do anything right for them and they’ve ruined possibly every future relationship of mine- any kind of relationship- I can’t trust people. It has held me back so many times…”
Jungkook switches his place from the little chair to kneeling on the floor next to your bed. Placing your hands in his, he kisses your forehead.
That simple action does it for you.
It’s like a dam breaking open when you finally give into him.
Your nose is warm, probably red and leaky and your cheeks are wet from the tears. His hands squeeze yours tighter than ever. “It’s okay,” he mumbles over and over.
You gently pull away from him. It has barely been a few, ten to fifteen minutes since he got here and you find yourself getting exasperated--- exasperated at yourself, at your inability to stay stable, to come up with non-nonsensical sentences and at the inability to make a decision for yourself.  
You give yourself a minute to breathe. You’re so tired you want to fall back on your bed and go to bed already but you refrain.
Jungkook’s instincts had kicked in.
He’s confronted with a social situation where he’d usually be panicked and confused. But for some reason, he was able to calmly steer through it.
When it suddenly dawned on him; Jungkook wasn’t being his usual defensive self, he didn’t feel cornered by you.
Not like you blamed him at all, he naturally went into ‘dad mode’--- in the most non-creepy way possible. Actually, ditch that metaphor, let’s settle with ‘boyfriend mode’ instead.
He snaps out of his thoughts when you sigh.
“Jungkook, I like you. I can’t help but feel… not enough- inadequate for you. You deserve way better than some childish, stubborn, stupid girl, but I like you so much I can’t navigate--- anything.”
“_____, I wish you could see how perfect you are to me.” He pouts.
“But, I’m not!” You digress.
Grabbing on to his shirt, you sob harder into his chest, “And don’t say things like that.”
“Why not? I really, really like you, _____.”
“Stop it. I’ve hidden so much from you.”
He envelopes your tired body with his sturdy arms. It almost energizes you. He has such strong effects on you.
“Well, it isn’t on purpose that it turned out to be this way. It’s your own defence mechanism, I get that.” Jungkook pulls away from you and grabs your face in his hands, forcing you to stare directly into his eyes, “I know you won’t accept it but none of this, anything, is your fault.” He pauses, “I mean it.”
“But, that’s not everything---”
He squishes your face as if to silence you.
“I’m here until you ask me to leave.” He doesn't stop there. “And even if you were keeping these feelings inside you on purpose, I would never- and I mean never, ever blame you for whatever.” He adds.
You secretly wished he would stop being so lenient.
One would argue that it’s the bare minimum but you still think he’s too good for you. It’s just something you aren’t used to.
Yuna’s involvement has not been discussed yet and you’re dreading bringing it up. You don’t know how he would react to her even though it seems to be going well at the moment. The build up to this moment finally ends.
“I appreciate that,” you whisper. “It’s a work in progress.”
You sit in silence for a few seconds. It isn’t awkward. It’s just weirdly serene and cathartic. The moment is possibly about to be disrupted though.
While you contemplate the beginning of your next snag, Jungkook thinks of telling you about Yuna. He hopes you won’t take it too hard.
“Before you say anything, I know how much she means to you and I’d never ask you to choose between us, ever. I can see that bond you have. I know we probably won’t see eye to eye on this.”
You focus on him, “Yuna does NOT like me. At all. I have accepted it, you should too.”
“Hear me out, before you counter attack--- I have learnt to be okay with Yuna, well… it is still a work in process, but it’s still happening! And I understand that she's your best friend!” You exclaim, low-key convincing yourself of it.
“Hey, give me some credit here.” Jungkook whines. “She came over the other day, I sent her away.”
You visibly freeze.
Things had slowly started piecing themselves together in Jungkook’s head. And, oh, how incredibly stupid he felt. The look on your face says it all. He understands that you weren’t expectant of him to do anything about the ‘Yuna situation’. It embarrasses him.
“What happened? Did she say something?”
“Oh, yeah, she said a whole lot. She even dressed like you,” Jungkook laughed. “It was crazy.”
Crazy? :(
“Crazy? Why?” You sadly ask.
“NO! NOt because of the- ok, no, wait.” He gulps, “She had like a floral dress on and she did her makeup like you do yours. And you usually have the glossy lip thing going on, I know because I love getting it all over me,” Jungkook scrunches his face in false bliss, clutching his chest.
You stare at him in astonishment with your mouth dropped open a little. Then you shook your head.
“Tell me what happened.”
“Right, I guess she came to do what you wouldn’t.”
You blink owlishly. You don’t know what this means.
Why was he being so cryptic?
“Sorry! I didn’t mean to sound cryptic, she just… showed me this other side of her that I didn’t know existed. Or, didn’t realise existed, I don’t know.”
That was so freakish, you didn’t even say that out loud. You sigh at him.
“Jungkook, I’m having trouble understanding you,” you rub your eyes roughly to wake yourself.
“She wanted me to break up with you. It… was this whole thing. She spoke of you terribly. She wanted me to choose between you and her.” He smiled humourlessly, “Obviously, I had to shut her up so I asked her to leave. Kindly.”
“Kindly?” You repeat, confused. It’s a weird detail. “Yeah, I mean- I made her leave. I haven’t spoken to her ever since.”
Your expression dulls, “Jungkook, when was this?” “A while ago. It was the day you texted me about tomorrow’s date.” You cannot read his expressions. You don’t know what to feel. He looks determined but then-
You gently raise your hand and bring it to his face and wipe a stray tear on his face.
“I’m sorry, hon. Why didn’t you tell me this sooner?”
“It felt wrong. I understood she was part of the reason you and I fought. I should’ve sent her away that day when she yelled at you.”
“You gave her the benefit of doubt. She’s your closest friend. I understand the issue- reluctancy, I mean.” You reason. “I’m sorry it turned out like this.”
“Hey, this is not on you, not one bit.” Jungkook shook his head.
You accept it, but still argue, “Yeah, I mean if I had told you about it before… I don’t know. I’m just sorry. Have you tried talking to her?”
“No. I didn’t want to,” He sighed, “Not until I’ve talked to you about it. I need to get my shit straight.”
“It’s great timing too.” You allude to his finals, sarcastically.
“Pfft, she sure does have her way of revenge.”
"She who?" You tilt your head in confusion.
"The time." He says it like it was the most normal reference ever.
“The time is a woman?” You pout.
“Of course. Like God. God is a woman, didn’t you know?” His banter lightens the mood by a small percent.
“But, really. Have you been well? I don’t imagine a fight as big as this to have no effect on you…” You trail.
He smiles cutely, “I’m a strong boy.”
“Besides, I only found myself worrying about you rather than Yuna. She scared me a little.” He adds.
You blush at his confession. “I’m sorry,” you grumble.
“Don’t be!” Jungkook startles you, “I like thinking of you.”
You shy away from his gaze.
Jungkook is trying to bring his pathetic self to properly address his role in this whole debacle. He lightly massages your thigh, unconsciously inching his high higher up. The presumed dead butterflies in your belly began to revive ragefully.
In all honesty, he’s afraid of losing you. He doesn’t want this to go badly.
“_____. Seriously, though. I ignored all the horrible things she said to you.”
“You didn’t!” You squeak. Because of both his statement and his hand nearing your centre.
He abruptly places his hand back on his lap, not noticing your embarrassment, “No. I need you to know that I was in the wrong here. Me and Yuna.”
“Jungkook, no. You- she’s your friend for a much longer time than me. I think it gives her more credibility than me. I mean, I wouldn’t have noticed either. I don’t blame you. Please.” You breathe out. “I’m sorry I walked out so suddenly during dinner that day, before your study break. It really set the tone for the weeks that followed.”
Jungkook's jaw clenched, “No, you don’t have to be sorry. I made it uncomfortable for you.”
“It was mostly her.” You point.
“Mostly!” He catches on making you cringe, “You don’t have to sugar-coat for me, doll. I want you to be comfortable enough with me to tell me I fucked up.”
He had mistaken your reluctancy for nonchalance and security when it was the stark opposite.
He really, really, screwed up.
He knows you’d never blame him because you’re the sweetest girl in the world but he wasn’t beneath taking responsibility for what he did.
“Really. I don’t blame you. She kinda called me boring and a drag or whatever on your trip and you agreed so it hurt me a little more than I- I don’t know. It’s in the past!”
His eyes widen in horror, “_____, I’m so sorry. I had no idea she- I agreed?” - “I- yeah. Like, when I begged to tag along, she had said I’d bore you or something? I don’t remember. It’s okay, Jungkook.” You try to change the topic.
“_____, I’m so fucking sorry, I definitely heard her wrong! You aren’t boring! I thought the trip would bore you! Or overwhelm you, my friends are obnoxious for people who don’t know them, that’s all. I promise.” He tucked a few stray hairs from your face behind your ears.
“I know that now.” You press your lips together, making your cheeks stick further out. “_____.”
He lowly whispers, “You’re my favourite girl.”
“You’re my favourite boy.” You look up at the origami hearts dangling from the ceiling, “Although, Taehyung isn’t that far behind.”
Jungkook’s mouth opens and shuts almost instantly. You grin and squeeze his hand in yours.
“Ow. Nails…” Jungkook softly whimpers. You giggle at him, smoothening his palm out, “Sorry.” “Yeah? Kiss it better.” He demands.
You pretend to think, “Hm…. Maybe tomorrow.”
“_____!” Jungkook whined harder, “That’s unfair, I haven’t even hugged you for weeks. Did you know I had to get by hugging Taehyung instead? He always smells like lilies and sandalwood; I’m used to your vanilla and peach!”
“Lilies and sandalwood?” You quiz, genuinely interested. Jungkook suddenly clears his throat, getting off the floor.
“I’m going to spend the night.” He side tracked.
You blush, “Sana would never allow it.”
“Pfft, she helped me set this up, doll.” Jungkook cockily stretches his arms over his head. She did?
Oh? Oh. Oh, no wonder she tried to push you to shower.
“_____.”
You look up at Jungkook who intensely gazed at you. “Yeah…” You whisper.
“Are we better now?” His voice is tainted with uncertainty. You can see fear and slight sadness on his face.
You know he’s still mourning his best friend.
He doesn’t show it out of respect for you but you make sure to remember to bring it up later. You’d hate for him to go through this alone.
“We’re much better now.” You hold his hand.
You never wanted him to come to this. There’s a fleeting thought of breaking up with him so he wouldn’t have to lose such a huge part of his life.
Somewhere, you felt at fault for everything that happened.
If you didn’t exist for him, he would never have to choose. On the other hand, you’re glad he chose you. But you can’t help but wonder what could’ve happened had Yuna been nicer. It’s your insecurity and trust issues speaking again.
And, who’s to say he would really go back to Yuna? You could be taking away his happiness regardless. You make note of the not very subtle self-depreciative thoughts.
You stand up and look up at him towering over you more prominently, “Stop,” you giggle.
“What?” He smirks.
You whine a little, “You’re doing that alpha male thing!” To which he takes great offence. His brows scrunch.
“WHO taught you that word? Taehyung? It was him, wasn’t it? Ahh, what is he doing making my girlfriend laugh?” He exasperates, mumbling off some ineligible words.
He puts his arms around your body and squeezes you close to him, “Don’t ever leave me like that. Except if you want to, I will not invade you. You know that, right?” He backtracks and reassures you.
You swore you heard a shiver in his voice. “I know.” You promise.
Jungkook sweetly smiles at you making you a little aware and conscious about the way you looked at the moment.
You hoped he didn’t focus on your dark circles too much, or at all.
Jungkook cuts your thoughts off by leaning down to kiss your ear. It tickles. Goosebumps litter your skin.
Jungkook sloppily leaves wet kisses up and down your jaw and neck. His hands caressed your waist. He knows it tickles you. You press yourself harder against him, not knowing what to do to soothe yourself.
Jungkook kisses the top of your breasts through the open collar of your dress. You gasp and clench your toes.
He moans like it’s the best thing he ever put his lips on. Jungkook rubs his face in between them and bites and sucks on your semi hardened nipples through your dress.
He groans about how much he missed feeling your tits while your heavy breathing turns into wanton moans.
He takes his sweet time, dragging his wet tongue around your nipples one at a time, giving them both an equal amount of love, before reluctantly pulling away.
You’re eager for him to just pull your dress down and suck on your bare tits.
But then, you hear an annoyingly loud ringing sound.
“Argh, fuck. Whose is that?” Jungkook rasps.
“It’s coming from your phone.” You complain.
“Oh,” Jungkook deeply sighs and let’s his arms drop from around you to find the source of the ringing.
“Fuck,” Jungkook cusses when he spots his phone. You nervously frown, “What happened?”
“Study group. Shit, I didn’t realise that was today.” He shows you his alarm reminder titled ‘STUDY GROUP REMINDER CALL’ in all caps and everything.
Not even a second later, you see the name ‘Jia’ along with a photo of a very gorgeous girl flash on his screen.
“Jia?” You pout. Jungkook stares at you for a second, then at his screen, “AND Chris and Yugyeom and Karina! Study group!” He quickly adds.
You giggle, “You should answer that.”
“Hm? Nnnghh, I’ll catch up tomorrow.” He opts.
“JK, no. Study group comes first. You have people depending on you.”
Also, you really want to shower and shave for him.
“Brat.” He throws at you, playfully sizing you up, looking you up and down.
“That’s YOU!” You scoff.
He licks your cheek, childishly, “I miss my shy baby.”
“Shut upughh, bye.” You blush, pushing him away from you.
He hates how right you are about the study group and kisses your lips briefly before answering his friend’s call while simultaneously setting up his laptop and notebooks on your table.
He wastes no time joining their group call.
And now, you’re left with two funny-looking wet spots on your tits.

I got tagged by @belleandsaintsebastian to share part of a WIP, so... Here's part of a second chapter of Smells Like School Spirit, my "Lane and Jess goof off in gym class because the school actually communicated about his absences and now he has to show up every day" Season 3 AU. 😂 (It's on ff.net so maybe I should put it up on AO3?)

After Jess had unleashed that storm of vengeance upon Chuck Presby on her behalf, it seemed that Lane and Jess had something else in common besides a love of music and Rory Gilmore: going full-on rabid guard-dog when a friend was under threat.  If questioned, Lane would maintain that she mostly did it for Rory, but the facts of the matter remained that she had stormed into Principal Merton’s office in a blaze of righteous indignation at the idea that Jess Mariano would receive the full brunt of punishment for the “altercation” that had occurred in P.E. that day.  No, this was outrageous, this was unjust!  Did they know that she had likely sustained a concussion- a concussion!- from Chuck Presby and the school did nothing?!  But Jess comes to her defense and gets a suspension!
Principal Merton was unmoved.  He “regretted” (he looked far from regretful) to say that, “as uncharacteristically honorable as Mr. Mariano’s motives might have been, the school had a zero-tolerance policy on physical violence” and yada yada yada… but then Lane had played her trump card.  She simply wondered what Mrs. Kim would think about a policy that allowed boys to give girls concussions but punished anyone who tried to stop them… and suddenly the Principal was proposing that perhaps both boys could be given detention instead.  Lane guessed that would be fair, but also suggested that since there were a couple openings in the weightlifting class right now, perhaps that might be a good way to keep Jess out of mischief, and if she could be moved also, she could keep an eye on him… as well as be able to inform her Mama that the school was making sure her concussion was properly dealt with.  Sighing wearily, Principal Merton had promised to make the necessary arrangements on the following day.
And that was how Lane had secured herself and Jess two coveted spots in the Weightlifting gym exemption- open only to Stars Hollow High athletes and a waiting list of Seniors.  No more laps, no more dodgeball, and if you happened to be partnered with a fellow slacker who had no qualms about falsifying your progress reports, not much actual weightlifting either!  This was the life!

rory and dean, part three: we’re really just fucking kidding ourselves at this point, or why rory does not deserve 99% of the blame for this disaster
So, OG Gilmore Girls fans may recall that Dean Forester’s ill-advised marriage to his rebound girlfriend was actually an attempt to write him off the show. Jared had filmed a pilot for a Young Macgyver show (you can watch most of it online here), but the WB ultimately passed so we (and Rory) were stuck with Dean for another year and a half. One wonders what would have happened if they hadn’t passed. Would we never have heard from Dean again? Would ASP have roped him into a few guest appearances anyway and attempted to do the same storyline? Would they just have gotten Milo to guest star for season four? Would Rory have run away with Jess in that scenario? Who knows.
Anyway, let’s revisit the issue of Dean vs Jess at the end of season four, after Rory rejects Jess’s plea to run away with him
RORY: Anyway, I left the pub, got back to my dorm, and Jess was there. LANE: What did he want? RORY: He wanted me to come away with him. LANE: Oh, my God! What did you say? RORY: I said -- I don't know. It was so weird. He was just... Jess. I mean, he shows up out of no where with this crazy proposal. It was awful. LANE: It doesn't sound awful. RORY: What are you talking about? Jess bailed on me twice. LANE: I know, but how incredibly romantic to have this guy show up out of the blue and want to take you away with him. RORY: When I first met Jess, I thought, "What could be better than this? He's smart, good taste in books and music, so cute." But Jess is great one minute and then the next - you know, as far as I know, I could have said yes, packed my bag, and by the time I got to the car, he would have changed his mind. LANE: It's part of why he's cute. He's unpredictable. RORY: I guess. You know, when I was with Dean, I always knew that no matter what happened, he would be there. LANE: Dean was very dependable. RORY: It was more than that. He's -- well, he was so... um, I was safe, and he was so nice to me. LANE: He really loved you. RORY: I think I really blew it there, you know? I didn't appreciate it. LANE: Every girl has to fall for a bad boy. It's the rule. It's the reason so many accountants eventually get married.
While this fits nicely with my headcanon that Dave eventually became an accountant, that is neither here nor there. I think this is the only time Rory really is shown processing the breakup with Jess until he shows up again in season 6 and how it led her to the Dean disaster, because as schmoopy as she gets about Dean in the twelve hours or so after she sleeps with him, it’s clear that she’s mostly looking for affirmation and stability, and not to get dragged down by feelings she can’t trust or control.
And of course, she had pretty much zero boundaries with Dean prior to this: crying on his shoulder, haranguing him about not going to college, knowing that Lindsay wouldn’t approve of him hanging out with her at night and doing it anyway. Who was going to tell her she shouldn’t do that, after the example her parents set for her over and over? Anyway. Moving on.
So, let’s go over Dean’s seduction technique, which mostly involves him lying his ass off.
DEAN: It's not working with Lindsay. I can't make it work. I've tried. RORY: Are you sure? Because I've heard that the first two years of marriage are the hardest. DEAN: We're not happy. She's not happy, and I can't make her happy. RORY: I can't imagine that. DEAN: It was a mistake, and I know that now. From the very beginning, it wasn't - RORY: Wasn't what? DEAN: It wasn't... RORY: Maybe you could, um, go see a counselor or go away together. DEAN: No, it's just -- it's over. We both feel it. I know we both feel it. RORY: You and Lindsay? DEAN: Yeah, me and Lindsay. RORY: You both feel it's over? DEAN: I tried. We tried. RORY: Well, if it's over, I'm sorry. DEAN: You are? RORY: I'm sorry you're not happy. DEAN: I'll be happy again. Things happen for a reason, right?
Not to completely absolve Rory for all of this as she definitely should have gone on more than Dean’s word, but he absolutely lied to her face after she gave him three chances in a row to come clean. He made sure to follow her to her house, where she would be alone, and manipulated her into having sex with him. Yet somehow Rory is shamed for being the seductress who tempted him into breaking his vows.
Let’s move on to Lorelai, who is actually speaking sense on matters of morality, for once.
LORELAI: But he's married. RORY: You don't understand the situation. LORELAI: Is he still married? RORY: Yes, but - LORELAI: Then I understand the situation. RORY: It's not working out between them. They're not happy. LORELAI: Oh, Rory. RORY: He tried the best he could, but it didn't work. It's over. LORELAI: [ Sighs ] He told you that? RORY: Yes. LORELAI: He told you he's leaving her? RORY: Well - LORELAI: He told you he's moving out, they're getting divorced, he's got a lawyer, they've divided up the monster-truck season tickets? RORY: We didn't get around to discussing everything.
Yeah, Rory, because he lied and told you exactly what he needed to so that you would fuck him. He never actually made any steps towards leaving his wife, and he won’t until he’s forced to,
RORY: He's not a married guy. He's Dean -- my Dean.
LORELAI: He's not your Dean. He's Lindsay's Dean. You're the other woman. RORY: I told you, it's over. LORELAI: It's not over until he's out of the house with the ring off. RORY: He took the ring off. LORELAI: Oh, my God, I don't believe this. RORY: He's in love with me, not Lindsay. LORELAI: Does Lindsay know that? RORY: She's not good for him, okay? She lets him quit school and work himself to death and - LORELAI: No, Rory, uh-uh, you can't be one of those girls who blames the wife for forcing the husband to cheat.
Funny how Lorelai was exactly like that when Christopher was having problems with Sherry and not only slept with him before he had moved out or officially broken up with her, but bragged about it to Sookie, paraded him all around Stars Hollow, and let everyone she knew about their burgeoning relationship, including her parents. It would be strange if that happened to come up again, right?
LORELAI: This is your first time. It's just not the way your first time was supposed to be. RORY: Oh, and how was my first time supposed to be? LORELAI: Well, first of all, it was supposed to be in a retirement home. And secondly, ideally, it was supposed to be with someone single. RORY: My first time was with someone sweet and kind who loves me. LORELAI: I didn't raise you to be like this. I didn't raise you to be the kind of girl who sleeps with someone else's husband. RORY: You slept with dad when he was with Sherry. LORELAI: He wasn't married to Sherry. RORY: He was engaged, and she was pregnant. LORELAI: So, this is all my fault? I set one crappy example for you, and you have no choice but to follow in my footsteps?
They’re basically one of those old anti-drug PSAs. I learned it from watching you!
I mean, it’s not like Lorelai badgered and pressured Rory into staying with Dean when her attention drifted to Jess and constantly argued for his innate superiority over and over and over.....oh wait, she totally did that. It’s not like Lorelai failed to sit Rory down at some point and explain that the reason their hearts got broken over Christopher not breaking up with his girlfriend is because sometimes when you sleep with other people’s boyfriends, they opt not to choose you in the end. Oh, wait, she didn’t do that, either, because he was her Christopher and they’ve always been connected. So she’s completely entitled to not take any responsibility for that situation and try to vandalize the other woman’s bathroom at her baby shower because she was jealous.
So, let’s just say I kind of understand why Rory gives Lorelai the cold shoulder here. Who is she to lecture, given her track record? And we know it’s only going to get worse.
Before we move on from this, though...
RORY: He was my boyfriend first! LORELAI: But you dumped him! You rejected him! You picked someone else!
Okay, technically it was Dean that dumped her (apparently I am the only one who remembers this) but as much as Rory pretends that Dean was the perfect boyfriend, both of them are significantly overidealizing the halcyon days of their early relationship. They were together for three months, and only reconcile when Rory is badgered into saying that she loves him: then it’s a few more months until Jess shows up and Rory loses almost all interest in Dean whatsoever. So the perfect love that they claim to want to relive never really existed.
Okay, let’s move on to how Dean actually treats his wife he claims to Rory he was completely in the process of breaking up with prior to him boinking his ex.
Upon learning that Lindsay had committed the unpardonable sin of answering her husband’s phone:
DEAN: I mean, you know it's my phone, Lindsay. This isn't your phone. I mean, who was it? LINDSAY: I don't know. They hung up. DEAN: So you didn't take a message? LINDSAY: I told you -- they hung up. DEAN: So, great, uh, you're just answering my phone and not taking messages? That's great, Lindsay. LINDSAY: Dean, wh-- DEAN: Taylor calls on this phone, and Tom. I mean, this phone is for business, okay? That's why I have it! LINDSAY: Fine. DEAN: What if Tom called, and he had an extra shift for me tomorrow, huh? I mean he calls to tell me, and you answer, and he thinks maybe he doesn't have the right number, and he hangs up, and then I just lose out, which means we lose out. God, Lindsay, you know, you don't -- you don't get it, do you? I mean, you have absolutely no respect for me at all. That's just obvious. LINDSAY: I don't want to fight. We always fight. I won't answer your phone anymore. I was asleep. I didn't think. I'm sorry, okay?
Jeebus, she completely sounds like a battered wife here. What a prince Dean is, huh? And yeah, Dean completely doesn’t sound like someone who’s trying really hard to cover his tracks.
Let’s move on. Rory overhears Lindsay trying to prepare dinner in the hopes of smoothing things over with Dean, and she finally accepts that Dean has not left his wife and at this point likely has no intentions to. She writes a break-up letter for Lorelai to deliver to him.
LORELAI: It's a letter for you from Rory. DEAN: What happened? Where is she? LORELAI: Just take the letter. DEAN: She went to Europe, right? Miss Patty said she went to Europe. What happened? What's she doing there? Who is she with? LORELAI: Dean. DEAN: When's she getting back? LORELAI: Soon. Just take it. DEAN: Where is she? LORELAI: Europe. DEAN: With who? LORELAI: Her grandmother. Look, take it. DEAN: No. Why did she go? Whose idea was it? LORELAI: That doesn't matter. DEAN: It does.
Dean, are you still married? Then it’s none of your business who Rory is with. Fuck off, sir. You have no right to ask anything of her.
Lindsay finds the letter and finally gives Dean a small taste of what he deserves.
LINDSAY: I hate you, Dean! I hate everything! DEAN: Let's just talk. LINDSAY: I don't want to talk! I don't want you here! DEAN: I'm sorry, okay? LINDSAY: Sorry? DEAN: Yes, because it'll never happen again.
Sure sounds like a guy who really, really wants to leave his marriage and totally didn’t feed Rory a bunch of bullshit to get her to do what he wants.
Lindsay kicks Dean out and her mom and Lorelai have a blowout in the middle of the street while their kids stand by silently like the teenage girls that they still are.
MRS. LISTER: You! You should be ashamed of yourself -- what you did! LORELAI: Just wait. MRS. LISTER: What did she ever do to you, huh? How did she hurt you? Why are you doing this? LORELAI: Theresa, please. Calm down. MRS. LISTER: Calm down? My little girl has to come home and find your heinous letter in Dean's jacket. LORELAI: Listen, we're in the street -- MRS. LISTER: You little monster! LORELAI: Hey! Pull back, lady! MRS. LISTER: There aren't hundreds of other boys in the world? You have to go after her husband? LORELAI: Okay, stop attacking my daughter right now. You're upset, I get it, but you do not do this. MRS. LISTER: She slept with my son-in-law. She broke up a marriage. Are you proud? LORELAI: She did not break up a marriage. MRS. LISTER: What do you know of this? LORELAI: Enough. I know Rory. MRS. LISTER: All I know is that now my Lindsay is devastated, Dean is back with his parents, lives are destroyed, and you and your daughter can go to hell!
Okay, first of all, this was a predictable end result when two teenagers who don’t know each other that well decide to get married at the age of eighteen. Why did their parents, especially Lindsay’s mother encourage this? And what the fuck is up with blaming Rory for the situation completely? No, she shouldn’t have done it, but Dean is the one who decided to marry Lindsay. He’s the one that decided to cheat. He’s the one that decided to lie to both of them. He is not an innocent bystander. 
Later on, Rory tries to comfort Dean over what has happened.
DEAN: No. It's not a stupid question. Um...let's see. How do I feel? Actually...I feel like an idiot. RORY: Why? DEAN: Why? Because I was married, …Rory. Married. And I threw it all away for someone who dumped me once and then just bailed on me. RORY: I didn't just bail. I -- DEAN: I hurt everybody. I hurt Lindsay, I hurt her parents, I hurt my parents, and now I'm back at home, and you're in Europe with your grandmother. And what the hell was I thinking? I mean, what am I doing? What's wrong with me?
I mean, the correct answer here is that everything is wrong with you, Dean, but....in the first place, Rory didn’t dump you, second of all, and she “bailed” because you lied and had no intention of leaving your wife in the first place. Take responsibility for your own actions, my man.
Rory and Dean eventually date for a month or so. Dean dumps her again because he realizes they have nothing in common. Does he take any steps towards moving on with his life and taking responsibility for his own mistakes? 
DEAN: Your situation is no different from mine. Buddy. LUKE: I've got work to do. DEAN: Then go. They want more than this. Don't you see that? And all you are is this. LUKE: Rory was a kid, Dean. She grew up. She moved on. Accept it. DEAN: You accept it. This town, it's all you are, and it's not enough. She's going to get bored, and you can't take her anywhere. You're here forever. LUKE: It's different. DEAN: It's not different. You and me. Same thing.
Bear in mind this episode takes place in April and Dean dumped Rory the previous November, and yet he’s still bitter, still projecting onto Luke, and still completely blaming Rory for all of his own decisions. He was the one who dumped her the first two times. He was the one that got into a fight with Jess on her behalf. He was the one who proposed to Lindsay to get her to forget about it. He was the one who got married despite his reservations. He was the one who lied to Rory so that she would have sex with him. He was the one who refused to leave his wife. And oh yeah....he was the one who dumped Rory a third time.
That’s the last we see of Dean for eleven years until he shows up in the revival and actually seems emotionally stable for a change.
Somehow Rory gets the brunt of the blame for all of this, but she wasn’t in this alone. I do think she was scared into this by Jess showing up, and if he had any sort of explanation or apology for her either of the times he showed up, she probably wouldn’t have been so vulnerable to the affirmation that Dean offered her. Then she could have had a disappointing first experience with Marty as an alternative.
Which still would have been an improvement over the horror of that Candyman song.

(Taking some llllllliberties. Takes place mid season 6, after Friday Night's Alright for Fighting)
Lorelai frowns as she peeks out the window and sees three cars driving down the street and right up in front of the Schneider household. "Uh..."
Rory looks up from her book and frowns back, her book forgotten. "What's wrong?"
"The cavalry has arrived at the Schneider's place," she says, nodding out the window.
Rory gets to her feet and looks, seeing the three cars park and one person each get out. They all look a bit older than Lorelai herself, two women and a tall man.
"What do you think happened?" Rory asks.
"I'm sure we'll find out eventually."
Rory nods and frowns.

"Kitty Bruce, as I live and breathe."
Kitty grins at the younger woman as she puts a few items into a cart at Doose's Market. "Why Lorelai, I never," she jokes back, though it's half-hearted.
"I saw you and your siblings pull up to the house," Lorelai says. "Is everything okay? Did something happen?"
The blonde takes a breath. "My mother passed away. My...biological mother. Dad and I are trying to decide whether or not to fly out for the funeral."
"Oh, gosh, I'm so sorry," Lorelai says sincerely. "That's terrible. Are you guys alright?"
Kitty shrugs. "We weren't close. It still hurts a little in a woulda-coulda-shoulda kind of way. I think Dad and I are both leaning towards no on flying out. It's really far, and he doesn't travel well, and...I think it'd just be better to send a card and maybe make a donation in her name or something."
Lorelai nods. "If there's anything you guys need...."
"I think we're okay," Kitty promises. "But...you know. You guys have been so great to my parents for so long...maybe you could come to dinner tonight. Midge is going to cook, and she always makes enough for an army when she's stressed."
"Dinner, yes, of course we'll come to dinner," Lorelai tells her. "We'll be there, and we won't bring anything we tried to make."
"Seven?" Kitty asks with a soft laugh.
"With bells on."

"It must be weird," Rory comments as they walk across the street. "How long do you think it's been since Kitty even saw her mom?"
Lorelai shrugs. "I don't know. From what she said, it didn't seem like they were close. I think her mom left when she was pretty young."
Rory huffs out a breath as they get to the front door of the Schneiders' home. "It makes me sad."
Lorelai nods in agreement. "It is sad."
Rory nods, but doesn't say more. She knows this isn't about her, but she can't help feeling like her relationship with her father is heading in the same direction as Kitty's with her mother.
The door opens and Ethan grins at them. "Hi, Gilmores."
"Hi, Ethan," Lorelai grins back, kissing his cheek before stepping in. "How is everyone doing?"
"Well, Esther and I never met Honey so we're mostly just here as support," he reminds them as he gives Rory a light hug and a pat on the back. "Ma is in damage control mode and Kitty is helping out in the kitchen. Lenny's in the garden."
Lorelai grins at her daughter. "Go help Midge and Kitty. I'm gonna go check on the old man in the garden."

She finds him weeding a particularly gnarly part of the garden and takes a seat on the ground. "You never come back to this section."
"Well, it's time I did," Lenny tells her. "I let it go too long."
Lorelai nods. "I'm really sorry about Honey."
He shrugs. "We're getting old. Older," he tells her. "And she and I we uh...we weren't particularly responsible when it came to our health back in the day."
She frowns a little as she watches him go silent and go back to weeding. "Hey, Lenny."
"Yeah?"
"For what it's worth, I don't believe for a second that you should have gone before her," Lorelai tells him. "And I"m really glad you're still kicking around. Giving us advise. Making sure we don't act like morons all the time."
Lenny stops weeding and turns to her, sighing a little. "I'm very happy to do it. You're good girls, you and Rory. I'm very grateful."
Lorelai smiles and pushes his shoulder gently before getting to her feet. "You should come inside. Your kids are never here, and they're here for you."
He sighs and lets her help him up, before heading back into the house.
"...Then Dad shows up to the studio with a Klan hood on," Kitty says, making the room laugh. "And he says, 'is this okay? I wanted to fit in. I know you've got one of these, so I figured...'"
"Where the hell did you get a Klan hood?" Ethan asks as Lenny steps into the house.
"I had lots of friends," Lenny explains. "Sometimes they'd gift me prison uniforms, and sometimes...other such uniforms."
"So wait, what did the host do?" Esther asks.
"He threw a microphone at my head," Lenny tells her with a proud grin. "Nazi fuck."
Midge shakes her head and walks over to him to kiss his cheek. "You should go clean up."
"I can just wash my hands," he assures her. "I don't want to miss having all the kinder here."
She smiles and soon dinner is finished, and everyone is sitting around the table.
"I think we're not going to go," Lenny tells everyone. "Kit and I talked it over and...it just feels like we'd be in the way of the people who were close to her. So...we're going to send a card and we're going to donate some funds in her name to a good cause, and we're going to respectfully stay here."
"I think that's a good plan," Esther assures him, leaning over to give him a one-armed hug. "And we can all stay the weekend."
He chuckles and kisses the top of her head. "Cramped in this little house, just like we all were in that apartment on Riverside Drive. Us, you three kids and your grandparents, all trying not to trample each other."
"Those were good times," Midge beams. She turns to Lorelai and Rory. "My parents lived with me for a long time, and that included just after Lenny and I got married. It was complete chaos. But in the best way. My parents really weren't sure about him at first, but then, suddenly, Papa was talking Lenny's ear off about politics and art and Mama was sitting down with him early in the morning for coffee."
"Those really were good times," Ethan agrees. "And then Uncle Noah and Aunt Astrid and Chaim would come to visit and it the place was stuffed full."
"Trying to fit all you kids around that little kitchen table to eat was a nightmare," Lenny chuckles. "But your grandfather was dead set on that farkakte no children at the dining table rule."
"Insane," Midge laughs.
"'How are we supposed to have a decent conversation with all those sticky little hands?'" Kitty asks in her best Abe Weissman voice, making her siblings and parents laugh.
"I miss him," Esther says. "He had his faults, but he really cared about us."
"The museum trips," Ethan recalls. "And the nights when we were older and he'd drag us out to the theater. When I came back from the war, he took us to see Hello, Dolly with Pearl Bailey. That was some show."
"I'll say," Lorelai says, sounding impressed.
"Poor Dad, couldn't come," Kitty giggles.
"She would remember me!" Lenny cries.
Rory looks confused. "You knew Pearl Bailey?"
"No," he admits. "But i uh...as a gag in Vegas once, I picked up a fire extinguisher and pretended to blast her with it...and it went off by accident."
Lorelai and Rory groan in horror.
"No, Lenny!" Lorelai cries. "That was Pearl Bailey!"
"I know," he agonizes. "It's how I got thrown out of Vegas. I've never been back since."
Midge leans over and kisses his cheek. "You're not missing much anymore. It's not the way it used to be."
He sighs softly. "I like it here better these days, anyway," he tells her.

It's not too late when the get home and Rory sighs softly, thinking over the night's events. Lenny and Kitty had kept their spirits up, but Rory has known the man too long to not notice when he's down.
"I was thinking of going to the bookstore tomorrow and getting Lenny a few new things," Rory tells her mother as they sit in the kitchen.
"I think that's a really nice idea," Lorelai says. "He'd love that. I'm going to take Kitty for a manicure in a couple of days. I think a little spa treatment would be good for her."
"Yeah," Rory agrees. "I think I'm going to make a call."
"Loooogan?" Lorelai teases.
"No," Rory rolls her eyes as she grabs her cellphone and heads for her room. "Love you, Mom."
"Love you, Sweets."
Rory closes her door, waiting to hear her mother make her way up the stairs before dialing.
"Hello?"
"Hi, Grandpa."
"Rory. Hello," he says, obviously not expecting to hear from her. "It's getting late, shouldn't you be out carousing with your friends?"
"No carousing tonight," she laughs softly. "I just wanted to see how you were doing."
"Oh, I'm fine," he promises. "Just getting some reading done before I turn in. I was going through my bookshelves, and found a few things I had forgotten I'd purchased."
"It's like finding something new all over again," Rory grins.
"Precisely," Richard agrees. "I'm halfway through the first one."
"Tell me about it."
