in s3ep2, eleanor tells mrs. hudson she doesnt come from privilege, which mrs. hudson immediately denies. but i think its SOOO telling of eleanor's character! she sees herself as a woman in a world full of men, which she is, but she completely ignores the class and racial divides she obviously benefits from. she claims she has no privilege to mrs. hudson, who comes from no money and works as a chambermaid to woodes rodgers, leaving behind her beloved children to make sure eleanor has clean clothes and to empty her chamberpot. eleanor had power on nassau, power she wielded for her own benefit and to the severe detriment of others. obviously she experienced misogyny, but she was never forced into poverty, never forced into sex work, never forced into service of any kind, because her father was wealthy and she was born into a higher class. her experiences of misogyny and oppression are vastly different than mrs. hudson's. but for her to tell a chambermaid she experienced no privilege? it's laughably untrue. eleanor oversaw and directly profitted from the trade of hundreds if not thousands of slaves on nassau, was raised by "chattel property of the guthrie estate" mr. scott, who is never even given a name in his own tongue (on screen, at least), never showed kindness to anyone but those who put money in her pocket because she was born with that money and that trade empire already in the guthrie name. she had to fight to get it, and fight she did, but the fact that those things were so close to her reach just by virtue of the circumstances of her birth? that's privilege, whether or not she sees it that way

#eleanor is a character i love and hate - shes so INTERESTING analysis wise and im still chewing on her motives etc but i dont like her as a #character within thr story - shes selfish and deceitful and shortsighted (max i could treat u so good baby please-) and she makes me mad lol #BUT. thinking abt her in relation to mr scott and madi ? A piece that’s, admittedly, very different than my usual work. I’m trying to gain some confidence in drawing more figure based works, and the likes of artistic nudity.

I took a bit of a “renaissance” inspiration for this. While I’m likely far from the colors, I think I had the right idea with the articulation and overall setting and mood, even if there are still some imperfections to this work.

I was originally super nervous to post it, but generally speaking, there’s nothing that’s too incredibly awkward about it, and perhaps I’m just a little paranoid that people will be weird about it.

Regardless, I’m still pleased with the result :)

ai art is art. i don’t like ai. but it’s still art. lots of things are art. the real issue is how ai is being used maliciously by people.

#and people who draw aren’t wrong for feeling upset if someone who uses ai copy’s their artwork and repurposes it. it feels like shit! #this example is primarily for drawing of course but. you spend more time working on a piece than someone does inputting commands to get #the same result. it’s disheartening to know a piece you worked 12+ hours on was completed by someone else in 5 minutes. #like damn i wasted all my time. this is so stupid but i actually quite like jayce's skin on this one--- it looks like its supposed to be

#coloring in general is a bit harder when your line isnt black; at least thats my experience. #you have to play more with colors to make them fit; and also some colors are not... registered as the actual color they are. #like for black i actually use deep purple; but it cant be too deep bc otherwise it ruins the whole aesthetic #with the line being lighter than the filler. i dont use actual black anymore i think; its always some shade or purple. #depending on the other colors i use a very very light shade of pink/red for white. i can also use actual white #but then again; it depends of the other colors lol. and in this case isnt even that light of a color. skin is other issue #i have a palette full of skin colors but i dont really use it for just the color-- i moreso use it as a reference. #then you have me being all stupid with the color wheel for a bit trying to find a color and the saturation that fits the piece. #and dark skins are kind of their own thing; bc otherwise it doesnt give the image of actually being brown #and actually gives the image of idk you fucking slapped a random color on them. and VEEERY rarely actual brown in the color wheel works #rn jayce's color is in a mix between pink and red. but it doesnt looks like that!! it mixes and looks brown in the piece. #i used a different color on the one with chase but that was because the lineart colors were different kjsnfkjndjfds #so yeah for someone who doesnt have that much of an eye for this; this is kind of a training in a way. its ok though #i refuse to go back to pure black lines the thought of doing them sickens me (no that doesnt means i dont like when others do them) #(and no im not saying using black lines its easier or not as worthy or something its not what im trying to say) #sorry for going in a ramble about how i color?? idk sorry i just thought about adding it #lilith whispers
