Once again referencing that Shu is the light and Mika the shadow, the sun and the moon, but also note how the sun character is the more "femme" presenting one i.e. presenting us with the dress side of the costume or just wearing a dress altogether. Shu also mirrors this, thereby proving that he plays the "female part" in their performances. I really hope the climax discusses gender more because I find it really fun that Happyele chose for a dynamic where the lead is the femme part with a supporting male role. Their dynamic, not only in this performance but also in general, is like Orpheus and Eurydice but with the roles reversed (and hopefully without the tragic ending...)

something that always so deeply strikes me is the fact that fob opens from under the cork tree openly exposing the fact that the narrator of the songs (pete, some unnamed person, however you interpret it) is unreliable from the outset- "we're only liars". Everything stated, then, can be interpreted as a lie, because it's outright said that the one speaking to you is a liar. it could be interpreted that the thoughts and feelings and advice from then on are unreliable- they're only liars, after all, but they're the best. they're only good for the latest trends, only good for the things that seem hip and relatable. to make these claims on an album that is then truly so vulnerable and revealing, so emotionally exploitive is the thing that is mainly striking. in that way, the narrator really Is a liar, and unreliable, for stating that they're a liar in the first place was a lie in itself. the album is filled with heart aching honesty, honesty that can then be questioned with the claim of lies, but honesty that is real and deep and wholly exposed regardless of what the narrator wants us to believe

i love being insane abt my own oc/canon ship

writing the scene where they meet has me thinking more about damien and linebeck when theyre kids. being each other’s first and only friends and running off into the forest or to the beach so they can hang out on their own terms. linebeck cutting damien’s hair and letting him borrow some of his clothes. damien letting linebeck stay over at his house some nights when his mother isnt around. linebeck’s brother keeping an eye on them and the two of them roping him in to hang out with them. linebeck and damien playing with cats on the island, reading books and watching sailors at the port and opening up with each other. playing around and doing school stuff together and figuring out stuff they wanted to do together. spending a bit more time away from each other as they get older but being able to do that in the first place because they built each other up. theyre comfortable with each other and strive to keep in touch after separation, even if it seems like they will get no response and the letters cannot find their intended recipient. they latched onto each other early on and it made their lives better

#tbh a lot of stuff with their actual adult relationship is murky while the details of their childhood together is pretty clear #and tbh im glad with that bc its a good basis for what comes after when they meet back up as adults #cuz figuring out their history together and then what happens in that gap of time helps establish future possibilities #also im ill abt them just being kids hanging out with each other despite bullying and neglect and ostracization #salty talks #damibeck #damien fletcher #linebeck #like. they find each other as kids who are being bullied or whatever and just decide ok. fuck these other guys. youre my friend anyways #damien latches onto the kid who cut his hair short and accepts him as a boy with no question #linebeck latches onto the kid whos nice to him and doesnt scare him and is patient with him #like theyre childhood friends who are intimately aware of each other’s trauma and identities as kids #and they meet back up and damien is living his best life and linebeck got dragged out of like seven straight years of hell #so the timeskip in their relationship is cool bc damien has changed a lot while linebeck is unfortunately very similar and worse for wear #but on the way out of the worst shit so damien helps him get through the final bits of. all of that *gestures vaguely* #the uh. traumatized childhood friends to insane about each other husbands pipeline idk. childhood friends to lovers yknow #linebeck and damien are the kids who roleplayed warrior cats during recess #tldr they latched onto each other like crazy as kids to the point where they wrote letters to each other even when they failed to be sent #(because linebeck was in a different fucking world the mail system in the great sea is good but not that good)

THATS THE POINT. that's literally the fucking point. i personally use it/its pronouns because as a neurodivergent person i feel a disconnect to other neurotypical people. i don't feel quite human, and not in a bad way, just in a "im not quite human" way. some people straight up just don't identify as human, and thats fine too. it's their business.

"it makes me uncomfortable" ok. and?? that's not my problem. if my queer identity - that does not fucking affect you - makes you uncomfortable; that's a YOU problem. can you imagine if we gave every transphobe a pass on misgendering because using the correct pronouns "made them uncomfortable"?? i see a lot of fellow queer folk using this excuse to not use it/its pronouns as if its not the exact same talking points used by bigots.

not everything that makes you uncomfortable is automatically evil and bad. i feel uncomfortable wearing lots of colour, does that make it morally bad for other people who do like colourful clothes to wear what they like? no! that would be insane. people are gonna do stuff that personally makes you uncomfortable, that doesn't make it automatically bad. if someone peacefully existing and using it/its pronouns makes you uncomfortable then that seems like something you have to work on to get over, because people are not gonna stop existing in the way they feel most comfortable with just because you dont like it.

vox's life: headcannons

im an electrical engineer and i have opinions on this character. moral of the story: don't fuck with CRT capacitors, shits scary

i have a lot of Vox thoughts, or Voughts, and i will be rambling about them at legnth under the cut.

TLDR: he invented zuckerberging. also i see his "canon" death date of 1950s and respectfully disagree. its way funnier if he died the year widespread television became a thing. the fruits of his labor were all for naught etc etc

1928: Vox was in college as an electrical engineer when the first ever live TV Demo happened, and I think he was immediately obsessed with it. Decided he'd do anything to work with TV. He and his friend/roommate at the time went full tilt into learning about TVs and working on them, and by the time they graduated, they had the beginnings of what would be a very profitable company.. together.

1930s: Out of the two of them, Vox has the better social skills(relative), so he's the one who talks to investors and handles that part of the business, though he still works on some tech. He decides he likes talking to people, marketing, manipulating, being a little showman. I like to think this ties into that one trivia fact that he likes watching commercials.

early 1940s: He starts wondering why he's splitting half of this company(HIS company) with some guy who can't even bother to attend business meetings. Tensions start rising, he starts using some of that handy manipulation skill he honed in business on his friends

1945: Tensions break. Through less than legitimate means, he steals the company out from under his partner. His partner threatens to go start his own, since he did the majority of the tech work. We can't have that. Vox doesn't kill him himself, imo, because he is kind of allergic to getting his hands dirty. He revs up that media training and uses it to create a smear campaign so brutal and widespread that his former partner offs himself. Problem solved

Late 1940s: Vox starts getting paranoid about people trying to steal his empire from him, funny that. He starts trying to do everything himself, because he doesn't trust anyone. Starts losing a lot of sleep, getting a little insane but its fine man. Don't worry about it.

1947: Sleep deprived, paranoid, and working on a final prototype model due soon, he electrocutes himself because you shouldn't fuck with CRT capacitors. Wakes up in hell with electricity powers and a CRT head because it's hilarious.

Alastor: Yeah we all know what we're here for. I don't think they ever met in life, but I definitely think Vox knew of him. Alastor was actively broadcasting during the 20s up until his death in 1933, and college student Vox I think listened to a lot of radio while studying and working. I also think in the later years, Alastor was never technically caught as a serial killer, but "hey I think that radio guy was that one killer, cuz he stopped broadcasting right after he stopped killing" was like one of those insane conspiracy statements you'd say to get a laugh at parties, but Vox always secretly kind of believed it, and was VERY vindicated in hell.

I am fully prepared for actual canon to contradict all of this but that's fine because it means they finally had to get season 2 out.
