Immediately, her gaze found Magnifico ever-poised at his work station across the room; and immediately, the stern expression she'd worn on her way up the stairs softened with affection. A sigh fluttered down to her shoes: mostly fond, but with a whisper of exasperation in its final notes.

"I understand why you have such...rigorous qualifications for your apprentice," she began as she crossed the room, "but it really creates quite a spectacle when the candidates you've rejected are seen fleeing the castle in tears."

Admittedly, the childishly dramatic crocodile-tears of the young lady whom Amaya had just escorted off the castle grounds were proof of being an ill fit for the position. Still, a delicate grimace sullied the curve of the queen's lips by the time she stood beside her king.

"What happened this time?" she asked, gently expectant.

Thinking abt the audacity of Bora's (ex) bf to blame her for him cheating on her!!!! What makes it all even sadder is that she clearly has set very strict rules for herself based on what she thinks is best for maintaining a relationship. So she tried her best not to get in his way, to not be clingy, to listen to him talk about his job for hours, to say everything is okay whenever he's too busy to see her, to take him flaking on her with a smile, to not do anything that could be used as an excuse to break up. But none of her effort mattered, he still cheated on her in the end, and not only that, he has the audacity to blame her for it and says being with her is suffocating, even though she gave him all the space in the world. And then he calls her suffering fake and tells her she can stop pretending to be sad. I want to rip him to shreds.

i wish some villain enjoyers could just be regular about liking villains. a character can be tragic, incorrigible, piteous, and abominable all at the same time. i mean, a majority of the time, it's that exact mind-boggling dichotomy that makes them so alluring! reducing them to a dull "uwu abused little neurodivergent minor babyman who isn't actually evil 🥺" is just... so boring, and tame, and not what that fictional cunt in question would want you to do lol.

there's nothing inherently wrong with exploring evil and morality through fiction—it's the same as exploring any other topic or theme. liking cersei, the joker, azula, hannibal lecter, chucky, and so on and so forth doesn't mean you're going to go out and commit war crimes or kill people lol. just like liking spider-man, eleven, jessica day, or finn the human doesn't mean you're going to protect the elderly from getting mugged or save the world.

like... all i'm saying is at least do it with your chest like everyone else does with heroes. you don't gotta close your eyes and pretend that the genuine evil these characters have committed doesn't exist because all of a sudden that goes against your sorry bastardization of them. i promise you that no one is going to come into your room and punch you in the tit for daring to acknowledge the entirety of this character you claim to love and their purpose within the narrative.

(For a confession). I love Nieyao and Nielan more then Xiyao, and tend to only read Xiyao if it has a 3zun dynamic/more then just the two of them. I like Xiyao but it’s probably my least favorite JGY ship and I feel kinda bad about that

Aw, you're valid, anon! I'm not so into Nielan myself, but I think that's partly a function of my primary canon being CQL, since it sounds like Nielan has a lot more going for them in the novel. (On the flip side, Nieyao sound like got a lot less going for them in the novel, so if the novel was my primary canon I wouldn't like them nearly as much!)

With Xiyao, though... you're not alone, anon. It's not my least favorite, but I'm considerably less into it than most JGY stans, I think. I am VERY invested in it when I'm actively watching the show, but I don't seek out fanworks for it because there's like... this tendency to be like "ah! their love is so pure! if only they had gotten to be together!" and so many fluffy AUs, and I am a gremlin who likes mess. What interests me with Xiyao is how they love each other but can't be authentic with each other--JGY because he needs Er-ge to think he's Good and masks for him bc he doesn't know how to do otherwise, LXC because he's conflict-averse and won't pry deeper because he doesn't want to make JGY uncomfortable. This is a big fandom, so I'm sure someone out there has explored this, but hell if I can find it beneath them being soft soulmates.

(To clarify, no shade against all the fluff. I respect the desire to write Xiyao having a nice time instead of one of them being a fierce corpse trapped in his mom's coffin sans mom and the other one mourning alone and forgotten by the narrative! This is a matter of personal taste, because as I've said, Euripides rotted my brain at a formative age and that's why I live in the Nieyao dumpster blasting an ominous down-tempo cover of Wuthering Heights.)

I would love to know, anon, which JGY ships you like more! He and Jiang Cheng are my Characters Whom I Can See With Almost Everyone.

But he seemed eager to give it to her which must mean he was pleased with his own sample.

Wordlessly the witch picked up the pastry and gave it a little sniff. Can't blame her for being curious... and a little paranoid. The Hunter's ability to surprise her with questionable cooking has gotten one over on her one too many times now. That was all the hesitation she allowed for, though. Taking a bit she chewed it, sampling the treat for a moment before nodding to confirm he did good.

"Not only does it taste wonderful but you also didn't burn down my very flammable cabin." Mortem praised. Well, the latter part was her usual jesting but all the same. Nestling closer to him she took another bite before offering it for him to do the same.

Something, something, sharing is caring. And she must care a lot, given how he inhaled baked goods.
