Still playing around with the camera settings on my phone when I go for walks (this was #64). Took a surprisingly nice photo of a sign and some tufted vetch (with bonus bumblebee) at the top of the many flights of stairs down to the old high school (now grade school) in the bottom of what was once a gravel pit. I like the depth of field the portrait mode gives, it's much more attractive than the trying-to-be-sharp-everywhere of the regular photo mode.
Still failing to get the hang of the macro setting, even when I'm the right distance I get poor results. This was the best I managed out of multiple attempts along my route:

Cow Vetch is a Highly Useful and Beautiful Weed
Cow Vetch is a Highly Useful and Beautiful Weed tells readers some interesting facts about cow vetch and other members of the pea family. It then shows readers a couple of examples of the gorgeous flowers.
Vetch Part of the amazing beauty of the southern Alaskan coast has to be credited to it’s gorgeous plant life. The mountains, rocky cliffs, glaciers, and colorful tundra are definitely also contributors, but none of those would be as stunning without the lush vegetation. Along with lots of tall, white spruce, pine trees, and willows, the rainy weather encourages growth of a thick understory as…

10/05/2022-Lakeside and home
The photos in this set I took today are of; two views at Lakeside, meadow crane’s-bill and cattle at Lakeside its nice to see some back, view at Lakeside, Tufted Ducks at Lakeside, Greylag Goose and goslings, two more views at Lakeside and Blue Tit on the balcony which I was pleased to notice just now I haven’t often seen them here. It was a brilliant and far reaching Lakeside walk at lunch time when the sun had well and truly come out in the day, lighting up the glorious green coat the landscape is wearing and my Dad joined me for the monthly one he joins me for. There have been some stunning sky scenes this evening with nice horizontal lines in the sky from the clouds right up until the end.
Key species seen today:
Great Crested Grebe and Great Spotted Woodpecker-In these very strong few weeks I am having for seeing and hearing a lot of my favourite birds I enjoyed seeing both of these at Lakeside at lunch time, getting stunning views of one of the pair that have a nest on the water near the nest and the other on the nest for the grebes. A really nice moment seeing them. The Great Spotted Woodpecker I was delighted to see flying over beach lake and had not seen one here for a while so this was nice to see.
Canada and Greylag Geese with goslings-We had some fantastic minutes watching two pairs of Greylag Geese with goslings and the Canada Geese with two goslings, so we saw a lot of these adorable shiny balls of feather. I enjoyed taking photos of them of a few of them together and with the adults too. There were some lovely intimate moments with seeing the adults at the shore of beach lake too for the greylags and I encountered the adults of this species flying past the house today too. It was interesting to see an old egg on the grass between the lakes too possibly one of the geese.
Tufted Ducks-I was pleased to see the pair on beach lake my first here in a little while.
Speckled Woods-It was a perfect day for butterflies and it was lovely to see a fair few Speckled Woods flitting around and seen closely still, a butterfly I am having an amazing spring for.
Meadow crane’s-bill-One of the flowers I look forward to most in the late spring/summer days and one of the most integral to my blooming flower interest the past few years as one of the first I learnt. They adorn the bank and grassy area near the visitor centre south of the lakes with oxeye daisies as the season goes on, replacing the cowslips here of which I have enjoyed carpeting it in recent weeks and caught a glimpse of some hanging on today, and in this area today I was happy to spot one set of the crane’s-bills. An exciting moment.
Other fauna and flora I saw today was; Mallard, Moorhen, Black-headed Gull, Woodpigeon, Collared Dove well, Magpie and Carrion Crow well at Lakeside, Starling, House Sparrow, Goldfinch, Blue Tit, Wren, white butterflies I believe Small White flying along nicely too, daisy, dandelion, lots of yellow iris looking brilliant in the riverside greenery, speedwell, green alkanet, vetch, cuckooflower looking nice again, I believe black medick, possible hedge parsley and some tall dandelion/hawksbeard type flowers which I have seen a lot of recently and had before at this time of year.

Tufted vetch seeds cooking in their little pods. The vetch has had a great summer & is thriving in both our meadows, as well as down along the roads.
