Two simple yet very rare things that make Boy (2010) so good in my opinion:

1. It presents the neglectful parent in a compassionate light while not taking the blame from him. It doesn't try to excuse him or say that his actions are justified, or even that he had no other choice, but it still views him as a human and not as a monster. And he's not exactly a victim of his circumstances, but he shares the guilt with them.

2. It doesn't make the lives of the neglected children into a tragedy. Yes, of course the way the adults treat them affects them in important ways, but we see them happy, we see them having fun with friends, we see them help and care for each other, and these aspects aren't presented as something brave, or tragic. Just as part of what it is - a normal childhood.

And that's really how most people see their lives, even in less than ideal circumstances. Sometimes sad and sometimes happy. Mostly normal.

I think I've talked about this, but every day, I fantasize about going and fixing all of the F1 world championships Wikipedia pages so that the pictures of the drivers are from the proper season. It is my ultimate pet peeve, it bothers me literally so much

wasn’t able to get a ticket for the tour of the inside bc you have to order them like three days in advance but I also got to see the outside & the garden of this sweet house thats on the unesco list as the only example of czech modern architecture for free

#mp #its called villa tugendhat & it was built by ludwig miles van der rohe between 1928-1930 #and the jewish tugendhat family who commissioned it only got to live in it for about 8 years before they had to flee the country due to ww2 #then it got plundered & devastated by the soviet army during the liberation (who used the furniture as wood fuel & turned the entire villa #into like. stables for horses. plus the linoleum floors were destroyed & all the large windowpanes got smashed & everything) #then in the 50's the communists made like a children's hospital / rehabilitation centre for children with spine defects out of it #and it only got fully restored back to its former glory & original appearance between 2010-2012. craziest shit ive ever heard #its sooooo beautiful though they rly went off with art nouveau architecture plus theres an insane view of the špilberk castle from the #garden like this house genuinely had it all
