9-1-1 Season 6 - Constructive Criticisms #14
Edmundo “Eddie” Diaz
DISCLAIMER: THERE ARE THREE SEPARATE POSTS ABOUT BUCK, EDDIE, CHRIS AND BUDDIE.  The reason for this is because there was a lot of information to cover and the attempt to combine it into a single post, like those completed for the other main characters and ‘ships’, wasn’t feasible since one post for them and their family would’ve been too long.  Therefore, their posts are numbered as follows: Evan “Buck” Buckley - #13, Edmundo “Eddie” Diaz and Christopher “Chris” Diaz - #14 and “Buddie” -  #15.  Each of these posts are identically tagged because they include information that’s related to all of them.
FULL DISCLOSURE: Eddie Diaz is my favorite character!  FULL STOP!  I wouldn’t and won’t watch 9-1-1 if he’s not present (which is the reason why I’ll never do a rewatch of season 1😊.)
This is a LONG POST.
__________________
Edmundo “Eddie” Diaz is a main character, he became part of the main cast in 2x1 and he’s been on the show ever since.  His legal name is Edmundo but he doesn’t allow anyone to call him by that name unless it’s his parents (they call him Edmundo and Eddie interchangeably) or someone who really doesn’t know him.  He also doesn’t like for anyone to call him “Diaz” but he does allow Bobby to call him that since he’s the captain and he let Lena call him that too in 3x4.  He has a son named Christopher, who’s also a main character.
Bobby recruited Eddie and when Eddie arrived at the 118, he had just graduated at the top of his LAFD Academy class and he had already completed two tours in Afghanistan where he was an Army medic.  While looking at him through the glass windows of the locker room, Chimney was the first person to say he was a beautiful man, Hen agreed and they WERE NOT WRONG since Eddie is indeed beautiful!  Then Bobby went on to explain all his accolades and accomplishments and he also said he liked to be called “8-pack”.
Eddie is not only beautiful, he’s also sexy, handsome and gorgeous but in addition to all of those attributes, he’s so much more than that.  He’s a GREAT AND FANTASTIC DAD all by himself and contrary to popular belief (Buck’s wacky memory during his coma dream in 6x11) Eddie was ALREADY A GREAT DAD BEFORE HE MOVED HIMSELF AND CHRISTOPHER TO L.A.  He works hard to make sure Chris has everything he needs and he’s sacrificed so much for him including his job in 5x10.
In season 6, Eddie was sidelined a lot the same way he was during seasons 4 and 5 but it doesn’t make sense because he’s a main character.  He only had four or five storylines for the entirety of the season and the majority of them happened in 6B when they forced the dating narrative on him via his aunt Pepa.  Only one of his storylines lasted for more than one episode and it was the one that had him dating again.  Prior to season 4, he had his OWN STORYLINES that didn’t revolve around another main character but after the shooting, everything that happened to Eddie was made to be about Buck and was told from Buck’s point of view.  Most of his screen time in 6B showed him out of character, had him doing things he’s never done before and the same is true for his blood relatives.
By the end of 6x18, Eddie was almost unrecognizable with the way they had him acting and he ended up in a relationship that was a redux of the one he had in season 4.  In 6B, the show spent a lot of time proving he’s not alone from 6x10 through 6x13 but in 6x14, they had his aunt Pepa pressure him into admitting he doesn’t want to be alone.  There were a lot of unanswered questions for Eddie when the season ended and none of the things that happened from 6x14 through 6x18 made any narrative sense for his character.
My fourteenth set of “constructive criticisms” regarding the character Edmundo “Eddie” Diaz in season 6 are included below the cut.  Please note criticizing a TV show is NOT a bad thing especially since TV critics have been doing it for decades.  Constructive criticisms are designed to help make something better and they are VERY different from negativity.  A person can offer criticisms about a form of entertainment they spend their time watching and not be negative about it the same way two people can agree to disagree on a topic.  Just because one person liked the season, they shouldn’t expect others to feel the way they do because everyone has their own opinions.  Simply put, two people can have different opinions about 9-1-1 and those opinions can COEXIST since they are not mutually exclusive.
If reading criticisms about the TV show 9-1-1 upsets you, then don’t read below the cut.
                Warning! ⚠️“Constructive Criticisms” Ahead!⚠️
Disclaimer:  This post is NOT about the actor RG who plays the character of Eddie.  RG is an excellent actor who has a lot of range and experience and he plays the character effortlessly.  The issues with Eddie and all the flaws included in season 6 as well as other seasons, are not reflective of RG as a person, so please don’t confuse the information included in this post with the actor.  These criticisms ARE NOT about the actor, they’re about the character (not a real person) and the way the show portrays him.
Edmundo “Eddie” Diaz
As mentioned above, Eddie is indeed a beautiful man but he’s so much more than that.  First and foremost, he’s an EXCELLENT DAD to his only son Chris.  He’s also competent, confident and very knowledgeable.  Aside from those attributes, one of his most important characteristics is often overlooked.  He has a HUGE HEART and he’ll do anything for anyone.  He’s given advice to his friends and family on several occasions and unlike some of Bobby’s advice (mainly the things Bobby’s told Buck and Eddie regarding relationships), Eddie’s advice is GOOD and it’s HELPFUL (related post linked here).  An example of this happened in 3x13 when he reminded Chimney “Tomorrow isn’t promised”.
Eddie was already skilled when he started working at the 118 and it was one of the reasons why Bobby recruited him.  He knew the reason why he was there and he remained focused on the tasks at hand.  It took less than a few hours for him to demonstrate that he was a valuable asset to the team and he was immediately accepted into the 118’s found family.  He was new to Los Angeles because he had recently relocated himself and his son, Christopher there from El Paso, TX after Eddie got a job with the LAFD.  Also, he had an established support system in his grandmother, Isabel Diaz and his aunt Josephina “Pepa” Diaz and they helped him take care of Christopher whenever he had to work if Chris was not in school.
When Eddie first started at the 118, no one knew he had a son because he didn’t tell them.  He was a private person and he kept his head down so he could do his job.  He remained focused and he wasn’t really big on sharing any personal information about himself.  Eddie has a complicated past; he was married but he didn’t tell anyone until 2x7 when he had to call her to interview at Chris’ school, his parents were SUPER CONTROLLING (his mother, Helena still is), he loves his grandmother, they have a great relationship and his aunt was always there to assist him with whatever he needed in season 2.
Prior to the end of season 4, Eddie had his own storylines and he’s always been viewed as a complicated character.  But something happened in seasons 4 through 6 because all of his storylines included Buck even though all of Buck’s storylines didn’t include Eddie.  He was sidelined for the majority of 6A and part of 6B too which was ridiculous.  All his scenes were cut short, chopped or shoved into the end of an episode (looking at 5x13 which included his mental breakdown in the last five minutes of the episode and 5x18 which showed his return to the 118 in the last one minute of the season).  Other than his PTSD storyline in season 5, he hasn’t had one that went on for more than one or two episodes since.
The storyline he had in season 5 SHOULD NOT HAVE AFFECTED THE AMOUNT OF SCREEN TIME HE RECEIVED IN SEASON 6.  HE’S A MAIN CHARACTER BUT INSTEAD OF GIVING HIM THE SCREEN TIME HE DESERVES, the show continuously shoved Buck into almost every episode for long periods of time.  Other than 6x3, Buck was not only involved in his own gazillion storylines; he was also shoved into other main characters’ storylines too and the recurring characters that were brought in for Buck's storylines were too.  But Eddie's barely received a full scene that wasn’t overshadowed by Buck’s involvement since season 3.
Eddie’s been a main character since his first episode in 2x1 but for some unknown reason, he’s been treated like a recurring character for the last few seasons and it doesn’t make any sense at all.  He’s constantly left in the background and he’s only given the attention he deserves when he’s being shown waiting for Buck to catch up and understand something.  It’s not fair because he’s a character all by himself and he has interests that go beyond whether he will or won’t end up in a relationship with Buck.
In the beginning, he was there to do his job and he wasn’t aware of Buck and how much he didn’t like him.  Based on Eddie’s reaction to Buck’s behavior, it seems like he really didn’t care.  Buck was the one who was all pissy and acted like a toddler while Eddie explained to him while they were in the firehouse’s gym, they did the same thing but he just did it while he was being shot at.
Eddie’s past
Eddie’s past is complicated and he was shouldered with a lot of responsibility at a very young age.  His father, Ramon was on the road for work and was rarely home but his mother, Helena was there and she was and still is very controlling.  He got his high school girlfriend pregnant then he married her and became an instant husband and father.  He enlisted in the Army and when his time was up, he reenlisted.  After he was wounded in action and honorably discharged, he returned to El Paso but nothing had changed.  Him and his wife, Shannon still argued all the time, they were never on the same page and she left him and Chris there while she traipsed off to Los Angeles to take care of her mother.  She left them with a note that stated she needed time too.
He worked three jobs to take care of Chris and even though his parents were helping him, he decided to relocate once he realized they didn’t have him or Christopher’s best interest at heart.  They wanted to control him and his mother told him to leave Chris with them instead of taking him to L.A. but Eddie didn’t want Chris to grow up like he did with his mother constantly limiting Chris and trying to control him.
Identity
In CANON, it’s never been explained why Eddie doesn’t usually let people address him by his legal name and his story has been told in parts.  He didn’t reveal he had a son until Buck asked him who he was trying to get a hold of in 2x2 and he didn’t mention he had a wife until 2x7 when he was at the Durand School with Carla.  His grandmother and his abuela were shown first in season 2 and his parents didn’t appear until 2x18 when they arrived for Shannon’s funeral.  They weren’t shown again until Eddie had flashbacks while he was trapped in the well in 3x15.
In 3x8, after Bobby was told about Eddie’s participation in the illegal fight club, Eddie admitted he needed to be in control during their conversation and while he was in therapy with Frank in 3x9, he admitted he doesn’t feel anything.  In one of his flashbacks in 3x15, he told Shannon he felt alone and it wasn’t until 5x1, after his first panic attack, that he was told by Dr. Salazar he might be repressing something.  In 5x13, he was extremely vulnerable, he reached his breaking point and he had a mental breakdown.  Prior to that he’d never let anyone see him cry (he cried a little while he was talking to Bobby in 3x8 but he didn’t cry like he did in 2x17, 3x15 [flashback to his time in the Army] 5x13 and 6x11).
Eddie’s a chameleon and he knows how to adjust to whatever situation he’s involved in but underneath his controlled bravado, he’s a genuinely nice guy who just wants to be in love.  He wants someone to not only love him but they have to love Christopher too.  He’s an awesome father who puts Chris' needs before his own because he doesn’t want him to grow up without him being there the way he had to grow up without Ramon being present.
After everything Eddie’s been through, the show dropped the ball when they regressed him in 6B.  All the work he did before he was forced into that raggedy and trifling dating storyline in 6x14 was dismantled and he became completely unrecognizable.  The show turned him into a giggly high school teenager who didn’t understand the things he wanted when he was 14 and 18 years old, like magic and chemistry no longer applied to him because he’s an adult now who’s either 34, 33, 32, 31 or 30 years old (more on his retconned age below).  He was no longer the confident, courageous, strong, stoic, Army vet because they completely obliterated his character by retconning his age, retconning his relationship with Shannon and by having him make the same mistakes he’s made in the past by going after a woman who would be someone who would be there for Chris instead of him choosing the BEST person for both him and Chris (BUCK!).
Decisions
People have told Eddie what to do his whole life and other than the decisions he made to remove Chris from that toxic environment with his mother, him moving them to L.A. and him changing his will, all his other decisions were based on someone else’s opinion, him being controlled and/or ordered around by someone else.  Ramon told him to be the man of the house when he was 10 years old, his mother told him what to do while his dad was away working, he enlisted in the Army where he received orders 24/7 and he got a job with the LAFD where he receives orders from his captain whenever he’s at work.
The two times he tried to make decisions for himself, he was told by Bobby to stay with Shannon in 2x17 because he would be a great dad of their second child (she wasn't pregnant) and Bobby also told him in 4x6 that he shouldn’t let an opportunity pass by which caused him to start dating Ana.  In 2x17, he tried to make it work with Shannon again even though he said he knew he shouldn’t have let her back into their lives during his conversation with Bobby in 3x8.  In 5x2, he was planning to stick it out with Ana instead of breaking up with her and he probably would have continued to do that if Buck hadn’t explained how it was going to end up hurting her.  Eddie was literally having panic attacks that were so visceral they made him pass out in a suit store all because someone mistook her to be his wife and Chris’ mom.  He was still trying to decide what he was going to say until 5x3 when he went home and that’s when he finally broke up with her and explained it was “the idea of them” that caused him to try to make it work.  Since Eddie misunderstands a lot of Bobby’s advice, he should stop seeking him out for answers and he should stop listening to him.  He should talk to someone who can help him with his love life because he’s not Bobby and other than the fact that both of them have deceased wives, they don't have the same life experiences.  Maybe Eddie should talk to one of his friends like Karen or Chimney the next time he has questions about who he should ask out on a date.
Therapy
Eddie worked hard to be better for himself when he went back to therapy in season 5, he took it seriously after his breakdown in 5x13 and he was happy at the beginning of season 6 but the show dismantled all the work he did on himself during 6B (related post linked here).  He was learning to be better but he wasn’t shown going to anymore sessions with Frank after 5x14.  Pepa pushing him to date was stressful for him and NO ONE LISTENS TO EDDIE when he tells them he’s not ready.  Bobby pushed him to date Ana in 4x6 even though he said he wasn’t ready and Pepa did the same thing in 6x14.  It’s clear something is holding him back but they won’t allow him to work through it on his own and that’s why he keeps ending up in these one-dimensional relationships with Ana and now her clone Marisol.
Since he still internalizes everything, in 6x11, it was clear he was struggling with death and how it attempted to take someone he loves away from him and Chris again but just like always, he wasn’t shown dealing with it or going to therapy about it.  He was wearing his therapy sweater in 6x15 but he wore it to Shannon’s grave with Chris so who knows if he even had a session earlier that day since it wasn’t shown in CANON.
He almost had a panic attack in 6x9 so it would have made sense for him to schedule a session to discuss what triggered it (the answer: Buck’s announcement about being the official creator of new life did it).  In 6x7, he talked with a random recurring character named Felisa about the Tsunami even though he didn’t mention Buck and Chris went through it together.  In fact, he didn’t mention Buck at all but he sure did mention Shannon even though he hadn’t said anything about her in years.
In 5x13, he told Frank, one of his old drill sergeants said, “Pain is just weakness leaving the body” which was clearly bad advice but Eddie hasn’t discussed the comment since that session but it was clear he experienced pain in 6A after Buck made his announcement, again in 6B after Buck died for three minutes and seventeen seconds and again in 6x15 when Buck said Natalia sees him which was a bunch of BS.
Missing
In 6x10, Eddie was missing during the scene that included the woman who had her baby after the car she was riding in got struck by lightning but he was CLEARLY SEEN AT THE FIREHOUSE with the rest of the 118 before they arrived on the call.  He was literally throwing a baseball with Hen while they stood in between the engine and the ladder truck, so what exactly was the show trying to illustrate with him not being on that one call?
Also, he was missing from the locker room in 6x13, when Hen and Chimney heard Buck calling all the women that he’d previously had sex with to see if he satisfied them.  Chimney wasn’t even on that call with the victim Patsy and her husband but Buck, Eddie and Hen were there.  Did the show think the audience wouldn’t notice that?  If they did, they were wrong.
Character assassination
One of the many things that upset a lot of viewers in 6B was the word used to describe Eddie in 6x11 during Buck’s coma dream.  Chimney said he was ANGRY but that’s so far from the truth that it’s utterly ridiculous.  It’s absurd how the show allowed that word to make it into the episode and it shouldn’t have been greenlit since Eddie’s NOT ANGRY (related post about stereotypes linked here).  Even though it was said in Buck’s coma dream, the whole episode was a jumbled mess that was too confusing to be figured out after just one viewing.  It had to be dissected to understand it in its totality, therefore viewers who haven’t watched seasons 2 through 5 wouldn’t know Eddie’s not like that.
He's so kind and humble and he’ll do anything for anyone.  He doesn’t like to show vulnerability but he’s not some ANGRY guy that’s rude to everyone.  He participated in an illegal fight club but his temporary partner introduced him to it and she wasn’t called ANGRY.  The only time Eddie was upset was in the grocery store in 3x5 when he and Buck were having a relationship argument about their kid since Buck wasn’t visiting Christopher so that’s just par for the course.  The truth is Buck was rude and angry towards Eddie and it happened on Eddie’s first day at the 118.  But in 6x11, in Buck’s twisted mind, he figured Chimney calling Eddie ANGRY was an accurate depiction of him, even though it wasn’t.  That one word completely ASSASSINATED his character in season 6, it’s still frustrating to think about it today and it’s been more than three months since the finale aired. WTF? This was BS and it needs to be rectified in season 7.
Lies
Eddie lied in 6x14 when he said, “I do not panic” when everyone who watched season 5 knows that he does panic (related post linked here).  He also lied to Chris in 6x17 when he told him he was going to run errands but in actuality, he went out to play golf and go hike so he could try to find a date.  This was completely unnecessary and should have been eliminated from the episode.
Why was Eddie blatantly lying about something everyone clearly saw him do?  As mentioned above, he became unrecognizable by the end of the season.
Single marital status
Another implication that assassinated Eddie’s character in season 6 was the fact that the show tried to make the audience believe Eddie’s going to die alone.  HE’S NOT and he wasn’t shown to be alone or that he even had feelings about it until 6x14 when Pepa wouldn’t stop pestering him about dating.  Then she pushed him to admit he didn’t want to end up alone.
The weird thing about the positioning of that episode was it happened AFTER EDDIE AND BUCK WENT ON A DATE TO PLAY POKER in 6x13.  So what exactly was the show trying to prove with that BS storyline?
It ended up being another disservice to Eddie when they could have just shown him thriving and enjoying his life as a single father.  But instead of doing that, they brought Carla back so she could tell him something that he was going to misunderstand again.  Once again, the show used Carla (6x8) and Bobby (6x14 and 6x17) so they could tell Eddie something about dating or his lack of it and they went even further when they included Pepa in the mix in 6x14 which was egregiously ridiculous since she was the one who noticed how much Eddie and Buck meant to each other in 2x4 after she met Buck for the first time at the hospital.  The truth is Eddie’s not lonely and he will not die alone.  But if he chooses to be alone, that should have been shown as a choice he made for himself and that it was ok to do it if that’s what he wanted.
When Eddie went on that date with Vanessa in 6x14, he said, “Full disclosure” but she interrupted him and wouldn’t allow him to finish.  What was he going to say?  Could it have been something other than him explaining he wasn’t over his dead wife?  Probably but the audience will never know.
Age discrepancy
EDDIE IS NOT THE SAME AGE AS BUCK!  From his introduction to the show in 2x1, he was shown to be older and more mature than Buck but his age along with Buck’s, Shannon’s and Denny’s were all retconned in season 6.  In 6x15, Shannon’s age was changed via the dates included on her gravestone and they retconned Eddie’s age in 6x16 when he said he and Shannon met when they were 14 in the 8th grade.  It’s nonsensical because Eddie and Shannon being two or three years older than Buck shouldn’t matter.  Prior to season 6, Eddie was ALWAYS SHOWN TO BE MORE MATURE THAN BUCK so they did his character a huge disservice when they retconned his age.
His story has been all over the place, so no one really knows how old Eddie is but retconning his age WAS A MISTAKE because in 2x1 Chimney told Buck he wasn’t Eddie’s elder.  Since Eddie’s and Shannon’s ages were retconned, it’s possible Chris is not actually 12 years old anymore and his age may have been retconned to make him 10 years old again like Denny.
Eddie’s familial support system
They took EDDIE’S BLOOD RELATIVES and his PRE-ESTABLISHED support system away and didn’t tell the audience until 5x17.  Why did Isabel have to move back to El Paso when Pepa has a huge house that she lives in alone?  Isabel could have lived with her instead of Ramon but the show keeps removing people from Eddie’s life while they keep adding people to Buck’s.  It doesn’t make any sense because now Eddie has to depend on Buck and the 118 for almost everything but Buck doesn’t have to depend on Eddie the way the show has things setup.  This is UNFAIR and it doesn’t make any narrative sense unless they’re leading up to making them a CANON couple.
Pepa was written out of character in 6x14 and she seemed more like Helena since she was pushing Eddie to do something he clearly said he wasn’t ready to do.  What was the purpose of that?
Eddie’s parents
Eddie parents are interesting.  Helena’s done nothing but try to control Eddie and Chris while Ramon listened to everything she had to say.  In 5x17, after Eddie and Ramon reconciled, it appears their relationship has gotten better but Helena was still trying to control Eddie in 6x15 when he tried to explain they were busy and couldn’t visit them in Texas.  He told both of his parents in 5x17 that planes fly in both directions so what was up with them not visiting them in L.A.?  They could stay with Pepa when they visit.
Eventually, Eddie will have to deal with his mother and explain to her that she’s the reason why he had so many issues with control.  He doesn’t see it yet but hopefully one day he will.  She’s also said a lot of horrible things to him but season 6 retconned her and tried to make her likeable.  She didn’t deserve a redemption because she hasn’t earned one.
Eddie deserves for someone to care about him too
It’s unfair how every time something happens to Eddie, Buck’s the one who’s shown to have been affected by it but when something happens to Buck, they don’t allow Eddie to be there for him.  The show made Eddie being trapped in the well, the shooting, his mental breakdown, them being held hostage by Mitchell and Dom along with everything else that happened to him be about Buck instead of focusing on Eddie.  The audience didn’t get to see Eddie’s recovery after 4x14 but they shoved Taylor Kelly into Eddie’s house (instead of one or both of his sisters) at the end of 4x14 with everyone else and they shoved her into 5x11 too during the Buckley-Diaz Family dinner.
In 6x10, EDDIE WAS CATAPULTED OFF THE AERIAL but NO ONE, not Bobby, Hen or Chimney asked or checked to see if he was ok.  They didn’t even check on him after they made it to the hospital.  It seemed like par for the course since all the focus was on Buck even though they were both struck by the same bolt of lightning.  To add insult to Eddie’s injuries, they wouldn’t even let Buck check on him after he woke up from his coma dream.  They keep wedging all these random people into his storylines and they’re still doing it, hence, the reason why they wait for half the season to be over then they bring Carla Price back who’s Chris’ home healthcare aide.  But she shouldn’t be the one Eddie talks with because he does have friends.
Stop including Carla Price in Eddie’s storylines
WHY IS CARLA THE ONLY PERSON EDDIE’S ALLOWED TO TALK TO?  She’s Chris’ home healthcare aide but she’s always brought back to talk to Eddie when he should be allowed to talk to Isabel, Pepa or Ramon (since they reconciled in 5x17) or someone else other than her if they aren’t going to let him talk to Buck.  Everything she tells him confuses him even more and it’s always been like that.  In 2x7 when she said “A boy needs his mother” Eddie thought she was telling him to get back with Shannon but she wasn’t.  In 4x13 when she told him to follow his heart and not Chris’, he was confused then too.  In 5x10, Eddie should have had a conversation with someone else about whether he should leave the 118, like CHIMNEY, because Carla was not the person to help him.
He and Chimney are friends, they have been for years but they’re NEVER shown interacting outside of the firehouse.  It was clear in 6x5 when Eddie took Hoover the dog to Chimney’s apartment that he and Eddie hang out with each other.  In 6x8, Eddie should have had the conversation about Chris and his crush with Hen or Chimney not Carla.  Or here’s an idea, those scenes should have been SOLELY ABOUT EDDIE AND HIS SON CHRIS so they could have shared some father and son moments like they did in seasons 2 and 3.  Why is Carla being wedged in when she doesn’t have to be?  None of this makes any narrative sense.
Friendships
Everyone knows Eddie and Karen are friends and he’s friends with Chimney and Linda too but he’s never shown hanging out with them.  The question is why not?  He’s not afforded the same character development in that area like everyone else on the show is.  Hen and Athena are friends, so is Hen and Chimney.  Maddie and Josh are friends too but Bobby and Eddie are the only two who don’t have friends they can spend time with when they’re off work.  Eddie’s trip to the hardware store in 6x17 with Bobby doesn’t count because they have conversations like that all the time.
Eddie’s past relationships
Eddie wants someone who loves both him and Chris.  Shannon said she loved Chris but she left and didn’t contact their son for two years and if Eddie hadn’t called her to interview at Chris’ school, she probably wouldn’t have come back.  She suggested they get a divorce while he wanted to try again.  She told him he was a really great dad but she never commented on her own mothering skills.  However, she couldn’t wait to remind Eddie she’s Chris’ mother in 2x7 when she went to Eddie’s house and asked could she see Chris but when he said he didn’t want to confuse him, she said, “I’m his mom” well what did that have to do with the tea in China?  NOTHING because she left and didn’t try to contact them.  If she didn’t want Eddie, ok fine but she had a son who she didn’t check on.  Let’s be real, most mothers would have taken their child with them when they left but she didn’t.
They were never on the same page and all they did was ARGUE!  The audience shouldn’t have been convinced by that scene in 6x15 when they were sitting in front of her grave because Eddie knows the truth.  He read the letter she wrote to Chris but HE WILL NEVER TELL HIS SON THAT HIS MOTHER DIDN’T WANT TO STAY FOR HIM because he won’t hurt Chris like that.  Eddie carries the guilt of her not wanting to be a wife and a mother with him and hopefully he’ll be able to let it go in season 7 so he can focus on himself and stop it with this fictitious made-up fairytale about the way things were with her while they were in high school.
Eddie was 14 when they met and so was she and for anyone who believes those retconned ages the show pulled out in 6x15, they were 18 and fresh out of high school when she got pregnant so neither of them knew enough about love or anything else to have had some Romeo and Juliet type of love affair.  He was gone for 5 years while he was in the Army and she left for two years after he returned to the states.  If the amount of time they actually spent under the same roof is added up, it can’t be more than a few months.  He came back for Chris’ birth then he left again, he reenlisted which means he may have been in Texas for a month or two and when they reconciled in season 2, it was in October of that year and she died in May of 2019 but they weren’t living together in L.A., so the total amount of time they may have been under the same roof is 4 or 5 months.
That scene in 6x15 of Eddie and Chris sitting in front of Shannon’s grave was RIDICULOUS.  They had never done that before and it didn’t make any sense.  Eddie hadn’t mentioned Shannon since 5x10 and that was because Chris had a nightmare about her.  So, why did they bring her back to halo her like she didn’t leave Chris and not call him for two years?
Ana was in love with the “idea” of her and Eddie the same way he was but she wouldn’t admit it.  The proof happened in 5x1 when she cared more about dressing Eddie up like he was some type of Ken doll  before his first panic attack.  She avoided talking to him about it until he broke up with her.  She didn’t sit down to have a conversation with him like she should have but she sure did try to make it seem like he was the problem when she threw his panic attacks in his face.
At the end of 6x18, the way Eddie was acting was completely out of character for him.  Prior to that episode, he had never acted like a giggly school kid but that’s exactly how he acted in that episode when he was trying to ask Marisol out on a date.  Does the show really want the audience to believe King Petty Eddie Diaz who gave Taylor Kelly the stink eye several times in CANON doesn’t know how to ask a woman out on a date?  Also, he literally reproposed to Shannon in 2x17 before she suggested they get a divorce so the version of Eddie in 6x18 didn’t make any narrative sense.
So WTF was that BS and who’s raggedy idea was this?  Eddie’s nothing but confident, HELL he exudes it and he’s cool under pressure so how was the audience supposed to take that or interpret that scene of him dancing around like he got a date with a celebrity?
Is Eddie dating Marisol for Christopher or for himself?
In 6x17, Eddie WAS STILL LOOKING FOR SOMETHING/SOMEONE FOR CHRISTOPHER INSTEAD OF FOR HIMSELF (related post linked here).  When he saw Marisol at the hardware store, once again Bobby’s ‘raggedy advice’ was misconstrued and Eddie misunderstood what or who he should have been looking for.  He did the same thing after he saw Ana again in 4x6.  If they did date or if they will still be dating at the beginning of season 7, it shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone if Eddie has another panic attack followed by another scene of him saying “Chris loves you so much” the same way he told Shannon and Ana before he ends it.  Marisol’s name literally means LONELY or SOLITUDE.  Their relationship won’t work so it doesn’t make sense for them to be together especially since HE’S ALREADY FOUND THE PERFECT PERSON FOR CHRIS (BUCK) but he keeps looking past him.
Christopher “Chris” Diaz
Chris is a main character but he only had two storylines in season 6 and they weren’t all about him.  In 6x4, he skipped his Science Club meetings but that storyline was used to rope Buck’s ridiculous sperm donor storyline into it and it was also used to show Chris is growing up and he won’t be hanging out with Eddie as much anymore.  Therefore, it was about Eddie.  Also, his 6x8 storyline about the crush he had on a classmate was also made to be about Eddie.  The audience wasn’t shown Chris dealing with his crush on his own and actually, Carla was the one who suggested he might have a crush but Chris never said if he did.
Can Chris please get a storyline that doesn’t revolve around Buck and Eddie?  He’s 12 years old now which means he should have his own storylines just like all the other first responder kids had their own.  There are so many ways the show could handle it but for some reason they won’t.  They could let Chris have an honest conversation with Eddie about Shannon instead of making up that smores storyline in 6x15.  Chris was 5 years old when she left them in El Paso and they weren’t shown making smores together in season 2 before she died so who made up that story and why was it greenlit since it wasn’t true?
Since Eddie was sidelined for all 6A except for 6x7 and his storylines in 6B were more of the same from season 4, it would be nice if they actually gave him some storylines that were all about him and Chris.  Not that retconned storyline with Shannon or the ones where they constantly add Carla into the mix.  Both Eddie and Chris are treated like recurring characters even though they’re both mains and it needs to change before season 7.  They shouldn’t be sidelined only to be pulled back in for Buck’s storylines.  When is Buck going to be sidelined so he can be pulled into Eddie’s and Chris’ storylines?
Eddie and Chris both need and deserve more attention.  If 9-1-1 is turning into the Buck show with everyone else revolving around him and his love interests then, Eddie and Chris need their own show.  Can Eddie be HAPPY once and for all?  If they aren’t going to let him and Buck get together then let Eddie live his life happily ever after ALONE and let him get into some activities that mean something to him like baseball.  They moved his family away and have made him completely dependent on Buck and Carla which is RIDICULOUS.
Hopefully things will be different in season 7 for both Eddie and Chris.  Also, it would be good if they leave Marisol in season 6 where she initially appeared because no one wants to watch Eddie be in another relationship only for him to end up having panic attacks and trying to stick it out while avoiding what he wants for himself.  EDDIE AND CHRIS DESERVE TO BE HAPPY!
These are my criticisms regarding the character of Edmundo “Eddie” Diaz for season 6.
I have a total of 15 CANON “Constructive Criticisms” and as of Wednesday, August 30, 2023, they’ve all been posted.  The topics were posted in a specific order that begins with the overall issues for season 6 so they can be referenced within the posts about individual characters and ships that followed them.

Hazbin Hotel Synopsis
Salutations! My name is Jade and I have to make a blog for my Composition class. When given a free range of topics, I decided to write about Hazbin Hotel. Mainly character information, headcannons, theories. You know, that kinda stuff. I realized for my professor to care about any of this stuff, she probably needs to know about the show. And I highly doubt she already does. So! let's get into a basic rundown of the show, in mostly my own words. Obviously, spoilers ahead. On October 28th, 2019, YouTube channel "Vivziepop" uploaded a video named "HAZBIN HOTEL (PILOT)." The video soon blew up, and got praise and backlash for the idea of the show. It got a lot of criticism for being an animated musical, since those are mainly geared towards children. However, Hazbin hotel is a show with a target audience of 18+ (weird to think I was like 15 when this came out.) With many dark themes including commentary on the toxicity of the porn industry, this show is obviously not meant for children.
Despite the backlash, it obviously did something right, because in early 2020, before the second episode could come out, A24, an American independent film company, decided to take the concept and make a whole series out of it. Four years later, on January 19th, 2024, the show's first series was released on Amazon Prime. The show follows the Princess of Hell, Charlie Morningstar. She is a very energetic demon who believes the sinners in hell deserve a second chance. She builds a hotel and basically gets laughed at by everyone. But after getting back to it after an interview about said hotel, there's a knock on the door. We then meet one of my favorite characters, Alastor. Alastor is known as the "radio demon." He offers to help Charlie with the hotel. Charlie says yes and that's kinda the end of the pilot.
Alastor then enlists the help of Husk, a cat-like demon who runs the bar, and Niffty, a small cyclops who does the cleaning. It is immediately evident that Alastor is a powerful demon. He is known as an "overlord," and is feared by many, having the ability to control basically anyone, along with summoning help for any number of things.
As the show goes on we find out that redemption is basically impossible. The angels literally laugh in Charlie's face when she suggests it. Adam, the first human soul in Heaven and angel, lets it out that his army "exterminates' sinners and demons like once a year (which later gets changed to 6 months and then 1 month.) This upsets Emily, a Seraphim who shares the views of Charlie. Emily and Charlie say that:
If Hell is forever, then Heaven must be a lie (Emily!)
If angels can do whatever, and remain in the sky
The rules are shades of gray when you don't do as you say
When you make the wretched suffer just to kill them again.
Adam then says he will see them in 1 month instead of 6. (this is apparently because of a major timeskip, but I feel like it wasn't really explained like that in the show. it really just reads that Adam keeps moving up the date cause he's a prick that wants to kill all the demons.) Charlie decides to take things into her own hands and finds someone who knows how to Kill the Angels. So, what does she do? She gets her own army, her own weapons, and the guts to kill, and proceeds to kill literally any angel she can. Alastor gets injured and is unable to fight off Adam, which ends up fine because Niffty kills him. The scene is actually hilarious because Niffty is described as “10 pounds soaking wet,” by Angel Dust. So this tiny demon who was given a knife and told “stab any angel you see,” kills what is essentially the hardest angel to even touch. That's like the president dying from a mosquito bite.
That’s not even mentioning Sir Pentious, who originally tries to kill Adam. After Alastor is killed, Sir Pentious decides to go after Adam himself. Pentious is one of the most cowardly characters in the whole show. He is so scared to confess to a girl at some point, that upon her questioning why he bought her a drink, he says  “Because i bought everyone drinks!” when he hadn’t but then he does because everyone hears him. He does that like 2 more times and the situation repeats himself, even when the drinks turn into sex. He is too cowardly to admit to liking her that he has sex with a stranger instead of just confessing. But I digress, because he redeems himself by going after Adam. He resolves. He confesses to his crush. He kisses her. And then Adam kills him like, almost immediately. Despite Pentious being a coward, he isn’t weak in any sense of the word. He is a skilled inventor with many war machines that could have killed Adam. Adam just kinda snapped and suddenly Pentious and his minions and his blimp are dead. But Niffty, a masochistic, child-like cyclopes kills Adam. I love Niffty, but how does that work?
It fine though, because Sir Pentious ends up in Heaven. His sacrifice for his friends proves enough that after he dies, he ends up in Heaven in front of Sera and Emily, the Seraphim. Thats the end. The last thing we see of the main plot is confused faces and a less dark version of Sir Pentious.

Dazai Osamu x reader
💌 Reading into the palms of isekai bullshit:
Chapter 7 💌
Summary: You were no stranger to isekai bullshit. It’s not like you had a problem with it. The genre took over the anime scene for years now but you try to stay away from thinking about how you would handle the situation. The last time you thought about inserting yourself into your favorite show you wrote a 100k word xReader fic for your favorite characters and you didn’t want to spend all your time consumed by the brainrot again. Never again, you promised yourself that was the last time you’d let the devil on your shoulder win. You clicked on chapter 1 to start the adventure over again but when you opened your eyes and saw Dazai O-FUCKING-samu getting choked by Kunikida you honestly hoped it was a dream.
Notes:   With Artfight slowing down on my end I have come to feed the hungry readers...also idk why this chapter turned out so angsty bc that wasn't the plan but yeah know what it sounds about right. Another isekai so I can play around with BSD like dolls.

A few days later was the day Kunikida had a very important schedule to uphold. Everyone was left to their own devices and it was a nice change of pace compared to the past few weeks. Kunikida had left a few minutes ago while Ranpo was still complaining about the lack of snacks. You had mostly finished up your tasks for the day and were acting like you were still busy so Ranpo wouldn't bother you. It's been weeks since you were relieved of your snack fetching duties but you could feel him practically directing all of his grievances at you specifically. There were other people in the office. Why did it always have to be you who gets the snacks? Aside from Kunikida and Yosano, everyone else was here. You observe Dazai as he agonizes over not being able to ruin Kunikida's day yet. You still don't know what the hell happened the other night.
All you know is that Ranpo made a suggestive comment about it which didn't help you piece anything together. Dazai had been acting weirder than normal too. It's like he was having more mood swings than usual and you’re not sure how much of it is an act. You are also not the only one who's noticed the brunette’s weird behavior, even Atsushi said something about it. Although he thought you and Dazai had an argument because apparently the brunette would tense up at the mention of your name. Even more puzzling was that the moment you were left alone with Dazai he would act one of two ways. One being that he would reluctantly cling to your side, hovering over you like he was expecting or waiting for you to do something or two he would scoff and make some excuse, no matter how stupid, to disappear. Like he actually made it a point to tell you instead of just leaving like he has in the past. Almost like he was reasoning more with himself then having the goal be informing you of his absences. As much as it was intriguing it was almost hard to watch but you didn’t want to ask him about it because who knows what can of worms that will open and you weren’t ready.
Speaking of can of worms, Ranpo has been calling your name trying to get your attention. You slammed your hands on the desk standing up to look at your senpai. "Okay I get it, what snacks do you want?"
"Chips, pocky, ramune and you know what it feels like a melon pan kind of a day!" He smiles wide, kicking his feet up on his desk. Cocky bastard.
You rolled your eyes "So the works then got it," you looked at Dazai who was still moping. "Anyone else need me to pick up anything?" The room filled with a chorus of "No"'s as you grabbed your wallet and made your way out the door. The agency would reimburse you for Ranpo’s snack habits later.
Dazai watched you leave. It's been infuriating that you refused to ask about that night and seemed to brush it off like it didn't matter. So much for that confession of yours. He was aware that, yes, technically he wasn't supposed to know that. He promised you he wouldn't tell, but you told him yourself. He can't get over the fact you haven't picked up his bitterness on the subject or that you are blatantly ignoring it all together. He doesn't understand what your play is and moreover he can't get over the irrational thought of wanting to touch you. It has been driving him insane. He doesn’t get these kinds of impulses but since you shared your feelings with him he wants to be close to you in any way you’ll have him. You were also the one who saw through and called him out on his bullshit, not many could do that so why has that stopped? Is it because you need to see his palm again? Did the alcohol mess with your talent that badly? All he has is more questions and really no way of getting answers out of you unless he talks to you like a normal person. Dazai was by no means a normal person and what was the point if he wasn't supposed to know this information to begin with. If it was anyone else he wouldn't care about the confrontation or lack thereof but he does now and he hates it.
The sound of an incoming text rang out through the office. He looked over at your desk. It was your phone, you forgot it since you stormed off. He sighed, reaching for it. You would be back soon but he was bored and all of his attempts to shake up Kunikida weren’t working either. Was he losing his touch? If he sent Kunikida a message from your phone he would probably have a better chance at fooling the blonde. When he opened up the messenger he nearly dropped the phone as he read who the incoming text was from.
Chuuya<3
Hey, I have time today if you wanted to do the thing
Dazai gripped the phone tightly, his knuckles turning white. Why was Chuuya messaging you and what was with that contact photo! You were both naked in bed. You looked like an ethereal being while the smug redhead was holding you like he owned you, giving Dazai eyes that were taunting him. It made his blood boil. Was this why you didn’t care to find out about that night? Was this all really just a game to you and how could you betray him with Chuuya of all people! Dazai grit his teeth. Realistically he shouldn't care so why does he feel like this? He knows how demented his line of thought was but for the first time he let his jealousy cloud his judgment. You guys weren't exclusive, heck you guys weren't even anything to begin with. Just two coworkers who sometimes hung out outside of work but still he felt it was a low blow. He needs to stop his train of thought before he does something he'll regret. His emotions were already festering by the time you finally made it back to the office. He felt that itch again, the sudden urge to touch you. Why? He didn't understand it at all.
You dropped the bag of snacks on Ranpo's desk hoping that the ramune crushed a bunch of chips. This is the last time you’d be going on his snack run or else you were going to- you know what you don’t know what you could do as a counter. Ranpo kind of has you by the balls since he knows your secret. You deflated once you realized that he could actually make your life a living hell if he wanted. “Enjoy.” you sigh slouching as you turn around colliding with someone as you were grabbed by the arm and hastily pulled into the infirmary.
Dazai had dragged you across the office without a word. It was unsettling for the others to witness. Atsushi was concerned he'd never seen such a grim expression on Dazai before. Could it be because he failed at tricking Kunikida and he needed to take it out on someone else? "Shouldn't we stop them?" He asked warily but no one made a move. Everyone continued on like this was an everyday occurrence.
Ranpo only kicked back further into his chair, opening the bag of chips "Leave 'em. You might get scarred for life if you try to intervene." Ranpo rolled his eyes. This is what you get for playing with fire. Although he doesn't exactly know what Dazai saw on your phone, he does know that the two of you were a ticking time bomb and have been the whole week since the fall of the guild. He only hopes you know what you’re doing because babysitting you was not his job unless you were getting him more snacks.
As soon as the door locked, Dazai pushed you against the wall, easily pinning your wrist so you couldn't escape. His tone was dark. It would have made you shake with terror if it wasn't so hot. Right now, the position you were in, was a sexual fantasy of yours for sure.
"What happened to not being so easy? Huh?" He accused you, almost demanding an answer. It was jarring to hear him be this intense.
“Um, ow! I don’t even know wha-” He cut you off with a messy kiss, aggressively biting your bottom lip as if to say don’t lie to him. You actually had no idea what he was talking about. In fact you almost thought this was all of his pent up emotions from the past few days.
"Such a pathetic lie when you throw yourself at anyone who gives you the slightest bit of attention. Tell me was I not-"
"Who am I throwing myself at if not you?" You spat back not waiting for him to finish his monologue. You were furious because from your point of view you have no idea what the fuck he's going on about. He's the one who's been acting strange. If anything you should be the one yelling at him for not talking with you if he had an issue. Although you should have seen that coming. Technically it's what he was doing right now so you guess he did get there eventually but still you were mildly flustered and enraged with the delivery.
Dazai was silently scanning your eyes. You weren't lying to him. His fingers were digging into your wrist and your heart rate remained the same. Your eyes were clear and there were no obvious tells that your statement was false. He fucked up. He was wrong. He knew he was from the start but the impulses were too much for the rational part of his brain to stop while he was ahead. This is why he distanced himself. He wasn't capable of having nice things. He's spent so long waiting for the other shoe to drop he can't even trust that things could be different this time. As he loosened his grip on you the words cascaded from his mouth. "Then why did you sleep with Chuuya?" It shouldn't hurt him but it made his heart clench just the same. Dazai has had his fair share of one night stands. Sometimes it was nice to feel a human connection with another person. It should be no different but this was you. When did you become so important to him?
Your eyes widened in shock. He saw the photo. The trap you had set up weeks ago. Dazai was jealous, it worked. That's why he'd been acting weird. How long has he kept this to himself? Was that why he wanted you to ask about that night and the things you don't remember? Before you could register your actions your body moved on its own to close the distance between you with a tender kiss. Caressing his face you looked him in the eyes. It was now or never.  "Dazai, I am in love with you! Chuuya was only trying to help make you jealous so I could gauge if you even remotely liked me back." You blurted it out in a huff as you watched his expression drop and become unreadable.
"Well it's a shame I don't feel the same because right now I think I hate you the most." There was no emotion to his words and he practically vanished out of thin air. Dazai needed space while he figured out what was going on in his head. Isolation was the only thing he knew that would bring him said clarity. He doesn’t regret his word choice but he also doesn’t think hate was the right word for it. He was irritated for sure but he didn’t exactly hate you. He definitely hated the situation though. The brunette was still wondering how you managed to get under his skin like this. Now that he wasn’t in the same room as you he understands the train of thought behind the picture and how Chuuya’s involvement led to the prank. It was partially his fault you even met to begin with. This also answered his questions about the redhead after the encounter. Looking back this must be how the others feel when he pulls one over on them. It was not a pleasant feeling.
The room spun around you in a blur. It took you longer than you would have preferred to get yourself together and rush out of the infirmary. All the others pretended to mind their own business but you didn’t see Dazai so he probably bailed out of the office. You had to fix this before it was too late. Although something in the back of your mind wasn’t adding up. Why now? If he knew about the picture since that night why was it only today that he brought it up in a blind furry? There had to have been something to trigger this reaction. You don’t bother making an excuse to leave the office but you do grab your phone from Dazai’s desk. It didn’t click until you were halfway down the stairs that you had left your phone on your desk so how did it end up on Dazai’s. You frantically checked your messages and sure enough there was one from Chuuya. You frowned as you messaged him back blatantly lying about the other’s reaction to the prank. On one hand it did work as intended but how did it end up like this?

I started reading kagurabachi a couple of weeks ago and now I'm fully caught up with it and my general opinion so far is that it's actually pretty good!
the plot is perhaps a bit formulaic but still quite interesting (maybe I'm biased bc I love revenge stories) and it moves fairly quickly without leaving too much info behind, plus the action is so dynamic but easy to follow, and there are some legit super cool panels
SPOILER REVIEW BELOW
just a few of my favorite panels
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(as you might be able to tell I love seeing the fishes teehee)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Quick summary of the plot: the MC is a young guy named Chihiro Rokuhira who's out for revenge after his father Kunishige, one of Japan's most famous swordsmiths, was killed 3 years before, and those same people, a group of evil sorcerers known as the ?, stole all 6 of his father's enchanted swords, but chihiro has a 7th special sword that his father kept secret from everyone but him.
Edit: this might be important for some people so I'll add that Chihiro is 18, since we saw him with his dad as a 14 going on 15 year old and the story fast forwards to more than 3 years later in the first chapter, which would make him 18
He's joined by his father's best friend, a sorcerer named Shiba who becomes his mentor and informant about the shady business going on in Tokyo, Azami who's another sorcerer and friend of his father's and Shiba, a little girl named Char who comes from a family that has the ability to regenerate their body parts and is being hunted for it, a young woman named Hinao who's a weapons dealer, and later on another young man named Hakuri who comes from a different sorcerer family but defected bc he's the only one who doesn't know sorcery (and was abused).
Personality wise, Chihiro is the more level-headed, serious, and reserved type but shows great care and sympathy for those who need help, for ex. when he helps out char from being hunted and experimented on, and when he traded his beloved sword for Hakuri. His father had a huge impact on his philosophy about life and weapons.
He does want revenge for his father's death, but his greatest motivation however is to prevent anyone from tarnishing his father's legacy which are his enchanted swords, bc kunishige made sure to let Chihiro know that his swords are weapons first and foremost, and when put in the wrong hands are destructive and lethal.
The power system is fairly simple, based in sorcery, which for Chihiro is channeled through his enchanted sword called Enten from which 3 different goldfish, each having their own ability, appear (and the goldfish are the same ones his father had before he died: a black goldfish, a red one, and a spotted one).
The enchanted swords that Kunishige made come from a rock (?) called datenseki, which we don't know much about yet.
And about the first antagonist we meet, Sojo. He's a weapons dealer in the black market and does other criminal activities. He also has one of the 6 enchanted swords that was stolen, this one called Cloud Gouger. To me, this fight is reminiscent to Yuji vs Mahito in the Shibuya arc of Jujutsu Kaisen, in the sense that Chihiro has to accept that despite what he personally believes about his father and his swords, Sojo also can have his own contradictory beliefs bc it's the person who wields the sword that gets to determine it's fate. Chapter 12: Tea I believe is pivotal in Chihiro's development and is one of the best chapters so far. I like the metaphor with Sojo offering Chihiro dango, which he refuses at the beginning (he says he doesn't like sweets) and by the end eats it, even if doesn't like it, because it reflects his acceptance with Sojo's philosophy about the blades.
The only thing I think might not to be everyone's taste is the art style, but if course art is subjective, although it does suffer a bit from same face syndrome at times.
But I think the art is unique with its use of shading and perspective, and there are some really cool character designs, plus something that stands out to me is that the fight choreography is made to be a spectacle.
As a long time shipper, I feel like I should address the shipping dynamics that I've seen, which there aren't too many yet, but I still wanna talk about. So the main ship I've seen is between Chihiro and Hakuri, which these panels I think are fueling the fire for it and I can totally see it and wanna see more from their budding friendship. What's the ship name btw? hakuhiro?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Besides that, I've also seen Shiba/Kunishige, and Sojo/Kunishige but that's definitely a one sided admiration on Sojo's part.
One criticism I've found is that there's a character named Daruma who is after Chihiro and Char and is originally depicted in a way, which to me, looks to be black characteristics, like the hair and facial features, but after Shiba convinced him to leave his life of crime behind, his look changes. For example, his hair becomes straight, so what's up with that? Now to be fair, since the manga is in grayscale, we don't know what his skin color is but he has no shading to skin which in my experience of reading manga means that a character is light skin.
Tumblr media
Other than that, there's nothing else I can find fault in, so give it a read (there's 25 chapters so far!)

Tiptapricot again! I’m not the best for giving recs and info on the comics, but can give some trigger warnings on the show and two of the runs I’ve read! This will all b below cut as it’s as in depth as I can do off the top of my head.
This is a long post, but I’ve tried to make it as informative as possible. It lists some heavy stuff! MK fans are welcome to let me know if there’s things they think I should add, and though I say in the post, anyone is welcome to shoot me an ask about specific triggers! There also may be some typos haha so excuse those.
Without further ado, let’s get into it :-)
First up!
The Lemire Run, 2016
This may not be the best run to jump onto as it has a pre-established cast and is highly referential to past MK work, but it was also the first one I read and I still really enjoyed it! As long as you have a general knowledge of the characters from like a quick wiki read, you should be good.
Warnings for: Medical unreality, unreality, psych ward setting, gaslighting, abusive nurses/orderlies and doctors, shock therapy, drugging, death of friends, warped reality, manipulative Khonshu (the god they work for), further unreality/blending of realities between different headmates, mis-naming, car crashes/ship crashes, death of friends again, arrest/police interrogation, institutionalization as a child though not shown graphically, off-page death of father, internalized ableism/belief that to be normal you must not be a system, invalidation of headmates by another headmate, apparent though not actual alter death (they come back triumphantly, they are all ok), talk of brain and mental space/being “broken” as a form of manipulation.
This is the one I sent a propaganda post in about also! It was one of the first really major positive MK explorations (not the first, the 80s run and a handful of others actually have some real good stuff) and while it still has some funky parts, is a really gorgeous and awesome look at them, and again, has one of my favorite characters!
Second!
The MacKay run, 2021
This one’s the currently ongoing comic run! And while there’s less warnings it should be mentioned that since it’s ongoing, my list may become out of date somewhat soon, esp since issue 25 is apparently going to be 70 pages. But it’s a good time to hop on and join!
Warnings include: general monsters and fighting of them, self hate, internalized ableism and force-fronting by Marc/him being frontstuck for a lot of it, regular therapy sessions with Marc and his therapist that, although not manipulative or toxic or abusive like in other runs, are coerced by the avengers due to a previous run where the system basically took stuff over and took down the avengers for Khonshu (this run is referenced a lot), temporary death of main, discussion of gods, faith, and general theology, vomit in the issue 17 fight, racism/cultural appropriation by the character Jack Russel in the annual, forced switch by an outside partner in the annual.
There’s also a general blanket thing that, while MacKay is doing good at a lot, and issues 14/15 specifically have some really good system conversations facilitated by him working with a system for them, he is still not including Steven and Jake as much as he should, and stuff can feel unbalanced/that he’s forgetting about their systemhood sometimes. It’s overall a very solid run so far, but that’s good to be aware of!
And lastly but not leastly!
Moon Knight, 2022 show
The show is 6 episodes long and on Disney+ or u can pirate it (which. Is what I do haha) and these are what I can think of for warnings.
Best to skim beforehand and then peek at each chunk for each ep as you go. Id be able to give times if I was live watching with someone but I hope these cover stuff generally ok, and you can also look up specific stuff if you need, or send me an ask if you watch about a specific moment and I can find the time stamp! My inbox is always open :-)
Disclaimer that the show also has a lot of levity and comedy and calmer moments within everything I’m going to list. These are just the triggers, and since it is a heavy show it will seem dense, but it’s not just hell all the way through.
Ep 1, The Goldfish Problem—At the very beginning there is a scene where glass is put in shoes and stepped on, there is no blood or pain reaction or visuals of the skin, but that is a constant presence in the background for the whole show as the main antagonist is a cult leader who uses it for self flagellation. Lot of sudden and discombobulating switches accompanied by minor flashing, confusion and paranoia as it involves the beginning of system discovery by a headmate who has no idea what’s going on, a generally eerie vibe involving a large bird headed skeleton creature (Khonshu) popping up, voices from indeterminant origin/people seen in mirrors, scene in the mountains involves seeing the cult, and ideas of good and bad and predestined morality, car chase involving car crashes, guns and blood but not really gore or any especially violent ways of taking out bad guys, missing an important event due to amnesia and lost time, apparent stalking by cult and unreliable coworkers, mild panic attack.
Episode 2, Summon The Suit—More of eerie vibe from first ep and more of big bird man and some flashing, uncomfortable firing from job for perceived mental health reasons, headmates arguing, headmate freaking out and jumping to internalized ableism, person who knows one headmate but not ab the system being confused and frustrated/believing the one fronting is putting on an act, police arrest/kidnapping, more of the cult, discussion of eugenics ideology from cult, panic attacks, one use of the word “Psycho” during a joke, headmates arguing worse and lashing out at each other, manipulation by Khonshu, brief use of alcohol in an obviously unhappy state as coping.
Episode 3, The Friendly Type—Sudden and abrupt switches, coming to mid fight/after an adversary has been killed, confusion, non-graphic suicide as form of escape from protags (falling off cliff, body not shown in detail or close up at all), very intense trial scene involving possession by a god, and weaponized ableism and personality language against mains from antag, both demonizing and infantilizing them, somewhat of a breakdown/lashing out from main because of it, another fight at rich guys place involving guns and knives, as well as choking, and impaling of mains, but impalement has no blood or gore shown, the poles r kinda just through them and they’re alright, some more possible flashing triggers at end with sky scene though more mild.
Episode 4, The Tomb—Headmates arguing/tension, choice to pursue relationship action without direct discussion about it, sounds of dissection of human by a monster (dissection is blurred in background and not shown in detail), scary undead creatures coming out of the dark and fighting with a main, emotional manipulation by cult leader, argument with a partner causing a forced switch, intense guilt and mention of believing one should’ve died, main character death, and at very end and also big one for next ep: unreality, medical unreality, psych ward setting, drugging and restraint of patient, gaslighting, feeling like an “it was all a dream” twist (which is proven to be false, the psych ward here is not real and is a construct of the afterlife, but it is a big scare and can be triggering).
Episode 5, Asylum (biggest ones here and very intense episode)—More of same medical unreality and gaslighting by a doctor, on screen drugging of patient/mains with a syringe, forced trauma memory exploration involving static dead bodies, passive suicidal ideation, off screen drowning, off screen sibling/child death, intense verbal abuse from mother, passive father, alcoholic abusive parent, guilty flashback to older Marc the night Khonshu contacted him which involves an attempted suicide (gun put against chin) and manipulation, headmate hitting their head rapidly during a breakdown, physical abuse from parent with belt (action not shown on screen but build up is and there is briefly audio of impacts), headmates arguing, internalized ableism, discovery of being an introject and negative thoughts about “realness” and self as a result, emotionally abusive doctor, parental/abuser death, alcoholism by main, breakdown at funeral, hitting of kippah on ground during breakdown, intense switch in time of distress, apparent alter death (not permanent but is not resolved in this episode).
IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BY ME TO WATCH EPISODES 5 AND 6 IN THE SAME SITTING OR CLOSE TOGETHER. 5 is really fucking intense, and even while being very well done, it can really fuck up your brain and mental space. Episode 6 is a huge balm onto that and makes me cry every time because of it.
Episode 6, Gods and Monsters—Cult carrying out goals, intense grief from living main, dead bodies talking, brief possession by a god, guilt tripping and trauma leveraging by antag onto mains, sudden switch, brief return of psych ward setting (though in a context of triumphing over it/proving it to be a construct), after credits scene involves abduction of antag from a care facility, and murder.
Also general note that the show is really complicated and nuanced in its rep. It has a lot that’s really good but they also made some mistakes. The term DID/Dissociative Identity Disorder is not said on screen, for example, largely because the system themselves don’t know what’s going on/are dealing with a lot of internalized ableism, however it was still a choice by the writers. Some cast and crew members have also said not great things in interviews, but on the flip side, a lot of them have shown they really care.
Oscar Isaac specifically did a whole lot of research for his roles, and has been very respectful and awesome in interviews and in his pushing for the characters to be given the best they can. There’s a lot of discussion to have around all of it, and a lot they can improve in a season 2 if/when we get it, but it’s still a really complex and empathetic exploration of the system in general.
But also, it may not be for everyone!
I’m a singlet, and I’ve talked and discussed stuff a lot with the groups I’m in including systems in fandom, and there’s a lot in it people connect to, but it also may not be the type of show others want to watch and that’s ok. Rep is so nuanced and complicated especially with something so stigmatized, every step forward doing its best but not always nailing it, that everyone will have their varying relationships to it, and what works for some may not be good for others.
But yeah! I love moon knight a lot, and all of the things recommended here while none are perfect each do really amazing things with their stories, art, and explorations. I hope this can help some people interested in checking them out do so in an informed and safe way. My inbox is open if anyone has questions, and I can also point to some other really cool people in the community for specific discussions, recommendations, and more!
Hope you all have an epic and wonderful day! Good job on a swaggy bracket :-D

SAGAU Imposter AU but the higher the character friendship level, the easier it is for them to recognize you as the divine god without having to see your golden blood.
absolutely inspired by @hiraya-rawr !! hers are like.. four months ago, I just happen to be... really really slow. also just got tumblr recently so.. Apologies in advance for any weird things, I'm trying my best!! (If anyone can teach me stuff that'll be most appreciated)
MONDSTADT
Honestly? Mondstadt will be the safest, anyone with my friendship levels would absolutely prefer to stay here. Why? Well let me tell you.
First of all, we have the wallet- I can absolutely see Diluc (F-Level 10) giving me all the mora ever needed. A place to stay (i.e. Dawn Winery), and like absolute protection. He can probably be the ticket to getting to Liyue as well. Sure, it might be hard to get to him in the first place, but I also have something to help with that.
Kaeya (F-Level 9), the adoptive brother of the red-haired emo. One way or the other, Kaeya would probably introduce me to his brother for my safety. Since, well, Diluc has the money and the power.
And no, I'm not finished. You need information on something? Lisa (F-level 10) will be there. Ever get hurt, whether accidentally or caused by someone else? Do not worry, Barbara (F-level 10) will cheer you up and sing you a song!
Honestly, the figures of Mondstadt might as well be almost immune from the impostor ideas. With Diluc, Lisa, and Barbara around, people like Jean, although F-level 1, could probably be convinced. Venti could also be bribed by wine too, so...
Plus points if Lisa can talk to Albedo about it. That doesn't seem too far-fetched considering Sucrose (F-level 6) will be there to help a little.
LIYUE
I don't know how to tell me this, but I am screwed. Like. Super screwed, no one can believe this is this bad.
I'm not kidding. The highest happens to be Childe (F-level 6), and he isn't even from Liyue. A Fatui harbinger. And a 6. That's not enough.
Second in Liyue we have Chongyun (F-level 5) and Hu Tao (F-level 4), both of which are probably only available if you meet them by accident. I wasn't lying when I said I was screwed. Still screwed, actually.
Zhongli is a uhhh.... uh.... a rough topic..... let's just hope Xiao isn't around because uh.... uhhhhhh.... yeah I don't wanna talk about it.
Apart from probably getting confused with being part of the Fatui or hiding in a graveyard half the time (I don't know much about Hu Tao from this AU but I don't think she really cares about gods), I don't exactly think there is a way to get to Inazuma.
Well if we don't count sneaking in the Crux in a storage box and somehow not getting found out.
INAZUMA
Thank god we managed to leave Liyue! Now in Inazuma, we can have a good life-
NOT.
From sneaking around one of the biggest ships around to almost getting caught while leaving said ship. Maybe even getting a wanted poster on my head by Kanjou commissioners, and having to swim my way outside of Ritou, everything is okay. For now, right...?
NO IT ISNT- because apparently, no one in Inazuma has a higher friendship level than one!! Well except for a certain someone..
After being caught by one of the Shuumatsuban, I got dragged over to the Kamisato estate only to find...
Thoma being the local housewife he is. But no, that's not why we're here, because the Kamisato estate houses the only person that happens to have a high friendship level.
Kamisato Ayaka (F-level 10). The sister of Kamisato Ayato. Safety is shaky, obviously, but being a part of one of the most influential families who happens to be part of the Tri-commission-er is not something to laugh at.
There's the Shuumatsuban, Thoma, and.. the Kamisato family head, Kamisato Ayato. Honestly I just hope Ayaka can convince both Ayato and Thoma, but for the rest I... am not sure.
Ei will probably be the death of me.
TLDR; I definitely have favoritism towards Mondstadt.

Note before we start: a few questions below are about ships, and if there's one thing you need to know about me is that I'm not in it for the SHIP, I'm in it for the CHARACTER. And that character is Billy Hargrove.
1.ride or die ship (your otp): Harringrove
2. most annoying ship: Depends on how they're framed, honestly. Any ship can be annoying when done right (or wrong).
3. second favourite ship: Idk, probably like Mungrove or Harringroveson?
4. favourite platonic relationship: I want Billy to have ALL the friends, so put him with just about ANYONE as a friend and I'm a happy gal (Steve, Jonathan, Eddie, Chrissy, Robin, Nancy, Patrick, Tommy, Carol ... just give the guy some friends!)
5. underrated ship: Bob and Benny. Come on, imagine Hop's reaction, it would be glorious.
6. overrated ship: I don't know, because I don't read or look at ships that don't interest me. (But I imagine any that involve Mike Wheeler. Whoever he is shipped with probably deserves better.)
7. one thing i would change in canon: ONE thing only? Okay: Billy lives. But like, I can fill a book with the things I would change in canon.
8. something canon did right: Season 1 in general, Robin's coming-out scene in season 3, most of the soundtrack.
9. a thing i'm proud of creating for the fandom PLEASE BRAG ABOUT YOURSELF I WANT TO SEE/READ YOUR ART: I sometimes doodle? And I sometimes write? And I'm pretty happy about doing both of those things actually. (Also one time I did cookie doodles which was fun and should be a thing)
10. a character who is perfect to me (wouldn't change a thing): Mr Clarke. Underrated, knowledgeable, cool Mr Clarke. They should bring him into things. Dude has unknowingly provided them with vital information for several seasons.
11. the character i relate to the most and why: ... probably Mr Clarke, too? No fashion sense, good taste in music, weird special interests, creative/likes fiddling with little creative things that takes time, good at one's job, supportive, happy to explain things and rolling with weird questions, and also happily not involved in any drama.
12. character(-s) i hate the most and why: Neil Hargrove (should have gotten what was coming for him, and luckily he WILL). Brenner (should have died for real that first time around). And I might not hate them, but I dislike several Wheelers (Karen bc of the whole flirting-with-Billy thing, Nancy because of the holier-than-thou attitude, Mike because of his general existence). Am also not too fond of Hopper in season 3. He was an asshole there, and I felt nothing for his supposed "death". Also, since Billy's my favorite, I must admit that I have lost respect for most of the supposed "heroes" of the show since they showed themselves so unwilling to try to save Billy.
13. something i've learned from the fandom: One doesn't have to create stuff to be in fandom. Someone's gotta be the audience, too. (And I'm very good at being the audience, because I love everyone's stuff.)
14. three tags i seek out on ao3: Billy Hargrove, hurt/comfort, Realizations
15. a song i strongly associate with my otp/favourite character: Jaymes Young - I'll be good ... K.Flay - Blood in the cut ... Troye Sivan - Talk me down ... Queen - Good old-fashioned lover boy ... among others ...
Tagging: @weird-an @callieb @cherrydreamer @billyharringson @lazybakerart @missroserose @disdaidal @dragonflylady77

i just read the undertale newsletter and i AM FUCKING LOSING IT!!!!! i was super excited to see the papyrus q&a and like?????? WAGHH?? "GREEN GRASS?????" GREEN GRASS, PAPYRUS???!?!?!?! HOLY SHIT. I'M JUST. INSANE. I'M GOING CRAZY.
papyrus is like one of my favorite characters from undertale (if i had to choose my top 3 it'd be flowey, papyrus, and chara) and so i was THRILLED about this. unfortunately i missed my chance to send in a question (i was like an hour late to the party and i was so upset) but still!!! STILL!!! it was very cool.
i think the question about friends keeping stuff from him is very interesting...especially with how papyrus initially reacted to it. he's seems really uneasy before backpedaling (or more like...forward pedaling?) into a completely different assumption.
going back to the whole 'green grass' debacle, it really feels like sans interrupted him on purpose. which, while not surprising, is still a little frustrating. i guess being frustrating is just his job lol.
i'm really excited for deltarune chapter 3 based on the information we got...."unusual gameplay elements"....it just makes you think! while my love for undertale runs deep like a river, i do think deltarune is a bit more fun to play? it just has more going on, especially with it's battle system. so hearing chapter 3 is focused on "unusual gameplay elements" makes me excited, especially since chapter 3 may very well be in a TV world. i'm hoping for many TV & movie references.
that's pretty much all i have to say about it...the extra sprites were cute, the sans ice cream thing is hilarious, the dog bonk song reminded me of "kara kara kara no kara" by kikuo...it's probably still going to be a year or two before more of the deltarune chapters come out. chapter 3, 4, 5 are supposed to be released together, i believe, with chapter 6 and 7 coming later. sooo....it's gonna be awhile, lol. i'm alright with waiting. toby always delivers.
(also i think there needs to be fanart of papyrus playing the xylophone...maybe i'll do it myself lol)

“It’s like a double-edged sword,” coming into a franchise like NCIS, says Sydney star Todd Lasance.
“You’re coming in going, oh, you’re part of this amazing franchise. It’s been running forever, and that’s incredible. You feel you’re part of the family, but then two minutes later, you’re like, oh, I hope we don’t stuff this up. I hope that people switch on and then come along for the ride and respond to the characters,” he continues. That’s why he’s glad that the first international version has been a hit.
And NCIS: Sydney shows no signs of slowing down, ending its eight-episode first season with a finale that puts Lasance’s JD right at the center when his son is kidnapped — and in order to get him back, he’d have to swap the criminal that the team had been after all season (played by Georgina Haig) and just got into custody.
“What I love about the eight episodes is this is the culmination of little breadcrumbs of information, little clues that you don’t necessarily know are relevant until the final episode. And then actually when the episode ends and the cliffhanger you get left with, you’re like, oh, wow, this has been planted since Episode 1,” Lasance teases.
“This is also the culmination of the full 360 for JD. This is the complete other end of the spectrum that you’ve never got to experience with the character before,” he adds. “This is the actor’s dream, this episode as well, because you get to dive into the emotional element that you’d never seen before on our series, and also the heavy element of the subject matter. This isn’t usually where they track the tone of the series. So it was also really cool for NCIS to go deep into this emotional family kind of stakes of it all and for my character, too. This is the collision and the explosion of all the elements of our series and our eight episodes clashing into one.”
The episode, which is his favorite (and he knows he may be a bit biased), will see JD willing to do whatever it takes; the promo already shows him throwing a chair in the interrogation room. The only problem? The time he might not be able to think with his badge or rationally is exactly when he needs that investigator side — it’s the part of him that can find his son.
“Finding these elements throughout each scene was the key,” Lasance explains. (Not only did they shoot scenes out of order, but they were also filming Episodes 6 and 8 at the same time.) “What I love about these scenes and the way that it was written is that there’s times when he’s thinking with the badge, he’s actively using the law enforcement elements and he’s thinking with clarity. And then there are also other elements where it’s the complete other end of the spectrum where he loses it, where he does lose control, where his emotions get the best of him, where his relationship with his son, his family gets the best of him and takes over.”
It’s a storyline that is easily relatable — especially for Lasance, a father of two (his son was born during the series). “To be given this role where this particular storyline relates to my son so closely, it was like universally meant to be for me to have this role so that I could reflect the experience that JD was going through and obviously translate that from my own experience having kids, and particularly just having had a son,” he says. “It was emotionally one of the most full-on experiences I’ve had of my career, which was fantastic. You want to get this kind of content to be able to translate on the screen. So yeah, it’s beautiful. On one hand, he’s approaching it from a law enforcement perspective and then he’s also, at the end of the day, a father. Those two elements clash all the time, which is great.”
The finale also offers a look at a relationship we’ve only heard about thus far: his with his ex-wife. “They give you that little teaser where it’s just enough to go, oh, wait, what? What’s happening here? And then the dynamic is introduced, but then they leave enough of it so that you want more and that there’s so much more to explore as well,” he shares. “So there’s a lot coming.”
So buckle in for the wild ride. “You got to deal with his relationship side of things, find the history there, dealing with his team, dealing with Mackey [Olivia Swann], but then also dealing with the relationship with the son as well,” Lasance teases. “It’s all happening for JD.”

Gargoyles Re-watch - Awakening Pt 1
It’s been a long time since I’ve sat down to rewatch Gargoyles; probably since 2020. This is a show that is absolutely synonymous with my childhood, having premiered when I was 6 years old. Memories of watching it are hazy, but I hope I’ll always remember vibes of watching it at my grandmother’s house with my older sister @cherryfinolahobbes and our late uncle. Seeing all of the new content, from the amazing Neca figures, to the new comics (which I still need to purchase and read), to listening to the entertaining and informative Voices from the Eyrie podcast (which indulges my love of hearing from voice casts and behind the scenes trivia; seriously if you’re a fan of the show go sub to this great podcast); it’s been great being a fan of such a lovingly crafted show as of late.
However, I’m awful at not only keeping up with things, but also with rewatching, because my ADHD will try to fill in memory gaps/distract me and I’ll just... not turn things on or put them on pause lmao. BUT I want to share one of my most favorite shows! And seeing a lot of rewatches and analyses of Avatar the Last Airbender from so many of my mutuals (I need to do a series for that show too), I’ve decided to do one for my beloved Gahhguyles. So sit back, Happy New Year, and get ready to hear me gush about voice lines, music cues and magic spells recited in latin that have been rattling in my brain for the better part of 30 years!
Immediately you’re welcomed with a title card, a jagged set of stone letters that read ‘Awakening’, overlayed with snarls and a hint of ominous music. Bitchin.
We then cue in to New York City in present day (well, present day in 1994), where explosions can be heard and seen in the clouds; one of the tallest buildings in the city disappears into these clouds, and after a continuous round of noise begins to catch onlookers’ attention, rubble begins to fall from out of the clouds, nearly killing multiple people.
The police are on the scene, and from a particular red car steps out Detective Elisa Maza, voiced by Salli Richardson-Whitfield. Elisa is no beginner to her field. She’s smart and quick-witted, and when she arrives she’s greeted with respect from her fellow policemen who update her on the situation.
More rubble falls, and Elisa sees a set of marks that takes her off guard.
“What could be strong enough to leave claw marks in solid stone?” Elisa asks. This line, if I recall, was used in almost every piece of advertising for the show. We’re then greeted with the Gargoyles logo, and we go back in time. 1000 years to be exact, and now we’re in Scotland, where a group of Vikings are attacking the castle. They’re led by Hakon, voiced by Clancy Brown, and they seem to be winning against the castle, as their catapult destroys a wall and takes down some archers.
We then get our first glimpse of the Gargoyles, a set of stone statues in the dying light of day.
Quick detour for a moment to talk about the animation. Gargoyles is GORGEOUS. The colors of the sunset at the moment we look up at the tower that the Gargoyles are sleeping on are beautiful. There are some episodes that have infamous animation, but they’re not often, and even then, Gargoyles has some great character animation, as everyone has their own unique personality.
We’re then shown the Captain of the Guard, voiced by the late Ed Gilbert, defending the Castle and shouting to his men, who are uncertain about their fate.
Captain: “Stand fast! We can hold them back!”
Soldier: “Aye, and catch boulders with our teeth while we’re about it!”
Gargoyles has one of the snappiest scripts and we’re not even 3 minutes in.
The Captain mentions that once the sun goes down they’ll ‘see some fun’, but just as he does, another boulder strikes nearby, and we get to properly meet the Vikings as the camera pans in on them while they cheer, and Hakon stands proud in front of his army. However, he has his dissenters.
Viking: *talking to another standing near him* “Attacking a castle full of Gargoyles near nightfall! This is crazy, and Hakon knows it!”
Hakon: No, my friend. That’s not crazy *he grabs the viking to look him square in the face* Questioning my sanity when I’m in earshot, that’s crazy!” *he looks back to the castle* I say these Gargoyles are naught but chiseled stone! And even if they aren’t, it’s worth the risk for the plunder within! ATTACK!”
The Vikings charge over a gorgeous red sky, continuing their assault, even making it through the gates as they climb the tower leading straight up to the Gargoyles.Hakon leads the way, his rope secured to where the largest Gargoyle rests.
The sky is getting darker. Hakon reaches the top just as the sun sets, and he witnesses the stone statue crackle and burst to reveal a mammoth purple beast, who looks at him with more annoyance than fear. He grabs Hakon easily and holds him over the ground, more than capable of dropping him right then and there.
The first words of our main man Goliath, voiced by Keith David, are a growling, matter-of-factly “You are trespassing.”
The rest of Hakon’s men witness the rest of the clan awakening (hehe) from their daily stone slumber, becoming alive at night. Hakon draws his sword and slams it into Goliath’s hand, drawing blood. He then urges his men to fight as ‘they are not invincible’.
The battle ensues, and Hakon manages to escape Goliath.
As we see more warring, we come across three distinct Gargoyles; I want so badly to call them by their names, but they don’t have those names just yet XD so for now we’ll just go by Red, Green and Blue.
Green, voiced by Thom Adcox-Hernandez, is the smallest, but that doesn’t deter his personality. He’s sharp as a tack and sassy, and doesn’t hesitate to berate his brothers when they annoy him.
Red, voiced by Jeff Bennett, is impulsive, but earnest and caring and tends to get put into the ‘badass’ category (... but I mean... come on he is a badass; he was my favorite when I was a kid)
Blue, voiced by Bill Fagerbakke, is the laid back foodie, but there’s more under his exterior than meets the eye.
When we meet the trio, Green is watching intently, while Red’s eyes are darting from place to place, bursting with excitement as Blue just sits back.
Red: “Shall we let all our brothers and sisters have all the fun?”
Red then immediately glides away, leaving Green and Blue as Green smirks at Blue, who seems reluctant to join.
Green: “Not afraid, are you?”
Blue: *offended as he stands to his full height* Afraid? Me? HAH! Why, all of nature trembles at my passing! *he lifts up his gut to his chest... only for it to wobble back down*
Green: *pokes his brother’s pudge* “I can see why”
The two join the brawl, and we witness more fighting just as we’re introduced to the next member of our main cast, a capable, much older Gargoyle, voiced by the late Ed Asner, holding his own until a Viking sneaks up on him just before Goliath can glide down to stop him.
Goliath: “Watch your back, old friend.”
Old Friend: *amused* “Huh! Watch your own.”
The fight rages on, we witness the Captain of the Guard in his element as he and Goliath begin fighting side by side. The Captain mentions the Vikings most likely followed a band of refugees the castle is giving shelter to, and as we pan over, we see Blue make his way to the clearing where said refugees are staying, helping himself to some of their food as he’s watched by a young boy and his mother. The boy is amused as he watches Blue easily dispose of a Viking with a large drumstick.
Hakon is then greeted by a Gargoyle beast, a big blue Best Boy who absolutely destroys a stone wall trying to tackle him. Our man Shakin’ Hakon tries to run off, but is stopped by the haunting visage of our final main Gargoyle, Goliath’s mate and second-in-command, voiced by Marina Sirtis, who is going to be one of the show’s absolute BEST characters, if not one of the most amazingly complex characters I’ve ever witnessed. She scares Hakon off easily, and he’s promptly defeated by her and Goliath, but he proclaims he’ll return as he retreats with his men, who are chased away by the arrows of the archers; but as the archers proclaim victory, we notice the way Red, Green and Blue look at each other, feeling their hard work has been ignored.
It’s just the first taste of how the humans of the castle treat them.
Goliath gets his hand bandaged by his mate as the Captain proclaims how the castle owes them their lives.
Goliath: “As we owe you ours every day.”
All is well.
: )
We then cut to the inside of the castle as some upbeat music plays. A flute, a tambourine and a drum lead a simple, but effective merry jaunt as the soldiers enjoy a feast to celebrate the victory. We get our first glimpse of Princess Katharine, a somber-looking young lady voiced by Kath Soucie, and the Magus, voiced by Jeff Bennett (Jeff is like, half the cast in this show), a sorcerer who is always by Katherine’s side.
As the Captain joins the feast, he overhears some of his men teasing about how he’s more like ‘captain of the gargoyles’. You get a sense that the Captain really truly cares about the Gargoyles. He seems unhappy with the teasing, but doesn’t argue. Anytime we see the Captain with his army, there’s not a lot of camaraderie; but with the Gargoyles, he seems very at home. When he’s greeted by the Princess, who thanks him for the battle well fought, the Captain doesn’t hesitate to also credit the Gargoyles for their assistance - but Katharine doesn’t feel the same. She becomes unhappy hearing about them.
Katharine: *after hearing Goliath’s name* “Please, don’t mention that monster’s name in my presence”.
The doors burst open, the Magus drops his drink when he sees their ‘guests’ are that of none other than Goliath himself and his mate, who are there as the Captain’s guests. But not everyone is happy to see him. Katharine admonishes the Captain, and the Magus as well has some choice words, but when the Gargoyles approach and frighten Katharine, she’s surprised to see Goliath bow to her in respect. But after she insults them once more, Goliath’s mate is ready to strike, but Goliath is quick to diffuse the situation and he promptly leaves.
Goliath, despite his name and stature, has great patience and understanding; he is a great leader, and will later show some really interesting character faults. Keith David’s performance hits the nail of the head in every episode, making Goliath relatable, even when he’s at his most stubborn or at his wisest.
As Goliath, his mate, and the Captain reconvene in the halls, the Captain apologizes for Katharine’s words.
Goliath: “No apologies needed. We are what we are. Her opinion will not change that.”
Mate: “Have you no pride? No sense of justice?! We saved their lives and they repay us with contempt!” (this line has lived in my head rent free for nearly 3 decades it’s acted so amazingly)
Captain: “She is right, Goliath. You deserve better than this.”
Mate: These cliffs were our home ages before they built their stone fortress. They should bow to us!”
Goliath: *takes her hand* “It is the nature of humankind to fear what they do not understand. Their ways are not our ways.”
Going back to Goliath and his design, his words and beliefs can carry so much gentility; however we’ll also see later that a lot of old teachings can often drive wedges between him and loved ones, especially when we meet Angela next season.
However, the Captain is still unhappy with the situation that has unfolded. He cares so much for the Gargoyles, and it’s obvious he wants to change some minds.
Cut to the Magus, perusing in his book, the Grimorum Arcanorum within his study; and at dawn, a mystery figure rides off away from the castle - all the way to Hakon to make a bargain.
At nightfall, Goliath removes the bandages from his injured hand, which is now fully healed; in the meantime, the Captain of the Guard urges for Goliath to take the Gargoyles away from the castle as the Vikings had promised to return. The Captain and the Mate continue to try and convince Goliath of the idea, but he refuses to leave the castle unprotected. He decides to go and ward off the Vikings with his old mentor, and he tells his mate to stay with the castle. He promises to her that they are one, now and forever.
In the meantime, we return to the trio of Red, Green and Blue, playing catch with Best Boy, using a slab of meat. The Mate comes around to watch, smiling as they have fun around the refugees that are still under the castle’s protection. The little boy from the previous night curiously runs over to watch just as Best Boy finally gets his meal. Mate is apprehensive of the boy’s presence, and he introduces himself; his name is Tom and he asks for the trio’s names.
Green: “Except for Goliath we don’t have names.”
Tom: “How do you tell each other apart?”
Green: “We look different.”
Tom: “But what do you call each other?”
Red: “Friend”
But Tom’s mother, Mary, steps in, afraid for her boy, and she tells him to get away from ‘those monsters’. Red insists they wouldn’t hurt him, but Mary chucks a hunk of wood at him, striking him. Goliath’s mate, from up high, is enraged, and she insists Mary is the monster, just before Red and Green agree that if she thinks they’re monsters, maybe they should live up to the name.
But just before they can do anything, Goliath appears. He orders for Red, Green, Blue and Best Boy to go to the Rookery until he returns. Mate insists they weren’t at fault, but Goliath refuses to condone any fighting, and he must find ways to deter it, and he promises he’ll make it up to the boys later.
Goliath and his Mentor leave to find the Vikings, locating some questionable tracks. We then check back in with the trio, sent down to where a clutch of eggs rest in a cave like children sent to their room. Blue, interested in some slime on the wall, decides to have it as a snack and we’re treated to an uncomfortable several seconds of him just chewing on this slime.
The camera cuts to a mystery figure, tampering with the Castle armory just as we return to Goliath and Mentor, who laments sunrise is near just as Goliath finds the Vikings. They attack, but realize they’ve been tricked and were being decoyed the whole time. They try to return, but the sun rises, and Goliath and Mentor turn to stone, unable to make it back home before the Vikings ransack the castle. This time, successfully, as the inside job and betrayal is revealed to have been because of the Captain, and he personally apprehends Princess Katharine in a really great moment as she rushes down the stairs, and he slowly ascends to greet her in shadow.
Katharine: “The Vikings, Captain! We are attacked!”
Captain: *grabs her wrist, looking her in the eyes* “It is worse than that, your highness.”
The following silence as Katharine realizes what’s happening, her expression, this quick moment is SO GOOD. We then watch the castle inhabitants led out in chains as Hakon and Captain talk above the commotion.
Hakon: “Not that I’m ungrateful, but why? Why betray your own kind?”
Captain: *almost in pain* “They’re not my kind.”
But it’s not long until Hakon, mace in hand, decides it’s time to get rid of the Gargoyles as the sun sets. The Captain is horrified, and he tells him to leave them alone.
I wish I could describe how much I love that Gargoyles mostly had it’s actors record together (although some exceptions had to be made); you can often feel the fluidity of the conversations, and while I’m not sure if this particular exchange between Hakon and the Captain were recorded in the same room, it’s one of my absolute favorites.
Hakon: *staring at Captain as he’s prevented from destroying a gargoyle* Are you mad?! In a moment they’ll be flesh again and my men will be their prey!”
Captain: “Once your band is out of sight, they won’t follow! It’s not their nature!”
Hakon: “Ahh, well, in that case-” *he strikes Captain, aiming his mace for his head as he pins him against the wall* “Care to discuss the matter further?”
Captain: “...No.”
Hakon: *releasing him, he looks at one of the stone gargoyles* “I haven’t lived this long by taking foolish chances.”
The swell of music as Hakon lifts his mace, the sound of the stone being smashed as Hakon’s silhouette casts over Captain’s horrified face as he stumbles in agony. Damn; DAMN I love this show.
Night falls, and Goliath and Mentor return to the castle, now in smoke as fire still rages. They find the smashed remains of their clan, and Goliath shakily picks up the pieces of what he believes to be the form of his mate as he speaks to her in anguish, just before releasing a roar of despair; we pan out to another hauntingly gorgeous shot of the smouldering castle with a glowing full moon behind it as the screen fades to black, and we’re greeted with the first of many ‘To Be Continued’ cards.
The first episode of Gargoyles wastes no time in getting right into the action, while also building mysteries that will be revealed in later episodes. Yup, we’re already laying groundwork for later plots!! This show is dense with storylines that weave in and out so well, sometimes you’ll get payoff to a question you never even asked about.
Writing this was a DOOZY; I was not expecting this to take me a good couple of hours lmao, but hopefully I can keep with it! I love this show so much and I don’t think I’ll ever stop recommending it!

Hogwarts Character Profile for one of my more filled out OCs and favorite. Feel free to leave me your thoughts. He is still a WIP.
I also included some information about him being an NPC. I like the concept better for his character.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Name: Crimsley Jones-Adams
Age: 15-30
Gender: Male (ftm)
Date of birth: August 17.
House: Slytherin
Occupation: Shopkeeper, Beast Rescue, (-main story-) Magical Researcher
Appearance: Pale with messy curled black medium length hair and pale green eyes (used amber before realizing the mistake). He is of taller height and has a lean build. He wears a black cloak with gold trim over a white shirt and black pants, he is often seen without his coat when not in class. He also wears a silver pendant around his neck.
Personality: Crim is open-minded and always willing to try new things. He has a mischievous streak and enjoys bending the rules occasionally for personal needs. He is very kind and polite, often coming off timidly. However when he expresses anger he is expressive with words saying whatever comes to mind.
Strengths: Intelligent and resourceful. He is able to think quickly on his feet and come up with creative solutions to problems.
Weaknesses: His greed often gets him into trouble. He can be impulsive and reckless, which can lead to dangerous situations.
Abilities: Crim is particularly skilled in the use of Charms and Herbology. However, because he is good at Charms he hates taking the class but loves working with plants and animals as it’s more hands-on.

Backstory:
(As npc.)
His life before Hogwarts was pretty normal until the death of his older sibling, who was turned into an inferi right before his eyes by dark wizards. His Bogart represents an Inferi as the event was the most horrific thing he had experienced.
He never truly healed or came to face his fear, often refusing or shutting down in those situations. Once in DADA while he was learning the spell Ridiculous, his bogart formed into the Inferi that looked like his sister, causing him to run to the bathroom to vomit.
(Main story)
Follows up with the game. Before Fig took him under his wing, he came from a well off family who instead of his sister being turned into an Inferi, was murdered instead by a mugger.
Quirks: Crim has a habit of twirling his pendant when he's nervous or deep in thought. He also has a tendency to talk to himself when he's working on a particularly difficult spell. He loves being praised. If you give him a little reward, he instantly becomes more friendly.
Favorites: Crim's favorite spell is the Killing curse. He also enjoys reading dark magic tomes and collecting rare magical artifacts. He has a few exotic beasts that he has taken care of that reside in Sweating’s Sanctuary.
Summary: After graduating from Hogwarts School of Wizardry, he joined Poppy Sweating and her grandmother in the aid of Magical Beast before adventuring out to do other things.
Crim currently also has a shop in Hogsmeade that is run by his house elf Penny. Occasionally he comes back once every 6 months to deliver new stock and collect funds.
-Main story line-
He works along with Hogwarts as a keeper of ancient magic in which he had been perfecting Isadora's research. Occasionally lending his shop out for students to gain work experience (which allows him to save money on hiring actual employees).
Occasionally he will make his way back to Hogwarts for a quick visit, catching up with old professors and colleagues. He is currently applying to become the next Magical Theory Professor.
During his time at Hogwarts he had become close to Sebastian and Poppy, his relationship with Ominis was shaken considering everything that had happened in the Catacombs.
They kept in contact until the end of their 7th year, Sebastian and Crimsley both had a heated argument regarding Anne’s curse that resulted in their relationship ending. Since then the three haven’t spoke.

Things that did NOT Spark Joy-4x05
Fam, I am struggling this season and I don’t know if it’s just because it’s the last season and I’m losing my patience, or if things are getting worse, but I am...SO confused, so much of the time. Which isn’t always a bad thing in shows! They can’t tell you everything in the first episode, you’re supposed to have questions, it’s what keeps people coming back to watch. But RNM has a habit of not giving us answers to the questions we have and after 3.5 seasons I’m losing hope I’ll ever get answers so it’s to the point that having so many questions is no longer fun. On top of that, a lot of the question I have are not about the plot so much (okay they ARE but those are more “why TF didn’t we do/learn this ages ago” or “why is this person involved instead of someone else”) as they are about the mechanics of how LITERALLY anything is supposed to work. The show keeps contradicting it’s own lore, or just, having things happen with no explanation, or we’re randomly TOLD things and not SHOWN them, or pacing issues giving time and place no meaning which affects the audience’s ability to orient themselves with the story. Watching this isn’t like enjoying a good mystery where every new clue gives you more questions (BRB gotta go watch OMITB), it’s like playing a game with a 5 year old who keeps changing the rules to fit their needs leaving the adults to flounder trying to adjust what they already knew to fit the new, contradictory information.
The issues with season 4 seem to be mostly the fault of multiple seasons of bad choices culminating in the mess we have right now. Part of the pacing issue is this needlessly complicated set up for the main group to find out these tidbits of info about Dallas and his history, and these alien pieces, meaning we need 6-8 new and recurring guest characters, and everyone spread out doing different things with the new characters instead of each other. They should have had all these alien prisms as things already in possession by the main group. Eduardo could have the stone tablet thing (instead of sending it to Mexico and us finding out all about his family casita but not why Tezca was even IN Mexico and necessitating that to be a whole storyline in the first place, when Clyde said they were all on the ship with Jones. But also somehow didn’t know about Michael being his son with Nora? ANYWAY), Alex and Kyle could have had the prisms found in stuff from their dads/dad’s bunkers and on the reservation (maybe Gregory had a piece and says mom was holding it for Alex or something last season), or one is something Kyle pulled from Caulfield while he was gathering things up before it was destroyed. 🚗 said she pitched the show with a 5 season arc, and IDK how much Chris deviated from the alien part of the plan but with “the alighting” and “Ophiuchus” being name-dropped every season I feel like we’re still pretty on track, and changes were mostly made around personal drama stuff. So it’s not a stretch, again since things from season 1 are still being mentioned now, to think that they could have been setting this up all along, AND it would be the PERFECT way to keep Kyle and Alex connected to the main story, even though it should never have been a struggle but the show apparently hates joy, and interesting, fan favorite characters. They could have NOT killed off Jones and done *something* to wake him up this season (MAYBE having 1 guest star) and let him do the faceoff with Max. Jones specifically said he was going to go after Alex to get Michael to cooperate and this would have fulfilled that narrative promise they set up on a massive tee and then just....failed to hit, at all. Apparently Liz needs yet another rando scientist or two to work with instead of letting her work with Kyle and Michael again like she did to fix Max’s heart in season 2 even though we NEVER got to see it. We don’t need all these extraneous characters and backstories about them!
All this to say, this is REALLY long, and I have some salty shit to say and I’m going to be bitching about a lot of things I don’t understand and I’m annoyed about so I’m going to put it under a cut. If you happen to have answers, because my brain is swiss cheese about some events in this show (especially when they info dump for a whole episode), let me know! Then I’ll at least have some answers!  If you’re only interested in the joy this show inspires, you can catch up on all that goodness here, otherwise lets dive in to the “clear as a muddy swamp” water. Who knows, maybe we’ll find a tunnel to whatever hole Alex has been kept in for the past month! (or you can go read my life reactions under my “roswell spoilers” tag since I’ll probably be reiterating a lot of it here, but those posts sometimes have memes attached!)
Link to previous episode posts: 4x01, 4x02, 4x03, 4x04
First bit of confusion right off the bat! Tezca saying the blue flame was a Power Jones had and she was able to access the power from Max even though it was dormant. HOWEVER, we never saw Jones use that power. We saw him quite often using regular fire. If we were going with some kind of blue fire, shouldn’t we have seen that at least once last season instead of retconning that it’s something Jones can do that we’ve never seen or heard about? Again they killed Jones too soon and without ever letting us learn as much as we should have from and about him.
Speaking of, NO JONES RESSURRECTION?! *throws phone*
So, Isobel found Cam, half naked in the desert and she was last seen with Max, who no one can find, and Isobel just....drops Cam off with Liz and fucks off to Mexico?! Without even trying to go look for her brother?! Season 1 told us Max could find Isobel even when she was in the middle of the desert and had no idea where she was, even though Max didn’t think he had the same mindscape powers as her, but she can’t rally the troops to go rescue her brother from the clutches of evil which, for all they know, could include Jones since they just found out his body went missing?! The show sidelining Isobel and Max’s relationship is one of their many, many crimes.
Max says he’s just waiting for the handprint to fade and break the connection. Everyone been knew he was lying about something and apparently Liz is...just going to trust him even when she acknowledges he’s lying to her face which, okay, but Michael doesn’t say anything either? About both the lying which you know he clocked, OR the fact that the handprint fading didn’t stop Jones from accessing that old connection and trying to kill Liz with it so why is ANYONE assuming the print fading will do anything? Or is this just more lore changes we’re supposed to ignore like we had to do last season when suddenly the faded handprint could still come back and kill you?
Michael has once again left someone who was kidnapped to their own devices but at least Eduardo told him too and it was okay though I did think Michael had gotten him untied and he was on his way out into the desert. Clearly he was found by Bonnie and Clyde again, but at the time, no one knew that yet. He could have been back at Deep Sky taking a shower and having a nap for all anyone knew. And yet, after a few hours since he saw him last, Michael is saying they need to stage a rescue op, while no one has heard from Alex in DAYS, even after they called him about a friend’s mom he knew well DYING and no one seems to think it’s the slightest bit odd? Not one single worry about Alex not calling to tell Michael good night, or answering Michael’s texts when Michael asks if he’s still up?! After showing us last season that they call each other just to chit-chat and check in and when Alex didn’t answer Michael went over and when he didn’t find Alex he went to Secret Government Agency headquarters to get to Alex?! *screams into pillow*
WHAT was the deal with the woman in the pod needing surgery?! I couldn’t see any injuries that would necessitate surgery in an unsterile environment with an untrained tech and no medical equipment! Kyle would know better than that and wouldn’t do it if it wasn’t a life or death situation which we are given NO indication that it was! This isn’t even just telling and not showing, it’s not telling OR showing! WHY was that even needed when she’s up and looking just fine? Did Kyle smuggle medical tools and anesthetics (which, he’s a surgeon not an anesthetist) into Mexico? Did he perform supposedly emergency surgery with NO  anesthetics?! No monitoring equipment?! What kind of surgery was it?! Where did the find the silver goo to get her out of the pod?! WHY DID THIS NEED TO HAPPEN when all they needed her for was to tell them about the vault? We could have seen them pulling her out of the pod and her thanking them for rescuing her and doing the vault thing, and then showing them all the journals and stuff! It was SO unnecessary. And if they wanted Kyle and Isobel to do the investigating on their own, why pull her out of the pod at all? She could have been evil for all they knew! Why not leave her there until the figured out who she might be and then have the vault explanation? Also, how did the man who runs the distillery owned by Kyle’s family NOT tell him the casita was ALSO owned by his family?! Uuuuuuuugh!!!!!
The need for alien powers to open the vault was kind of cool but how did the not-alien Valenti’s do it? Did it require 3 of them to be in agreement to open the vault together? If so, why didn’t we hear about that?! Also, how did Tezca (who apparently named herself after an Aztec god even though she’s from outer space and wouldn’t know about them) even know it was in there? Can she sense alien things like Rosa even though this had no alien glass in it? It was smuggled down from Roswell fairly recently so was that something Jim took from Caulfield and gave to Eduardo? Instead of answering any of these questions, we had a whole thing about surgery. 🙄🙄🙄 But hey, at least one of the things the dark triad took was in Kyle's family! Which begs the question(s), why didn’t Kyle or Alex's family have the rest of the glass pieces? Oh right! Because otherwise m*ria would have nothing to do and no connection to the story so everyone else's story has to not make sense to squeeze her in 🙄 We should have been getting hints about this last season when we met Eduardo at LEAST. The main group should have found one or two of those glass pieces and been investigating them in the background (just a mention, some hints to build up to this) since at least last season as well, and they should have belonged to the Manes family/found in Jesse’s bunker, Eduardo/something else Jim left for Kyle, and maybe one on Alex's mom's side of the family from when Louisa lived on the reservation, instead of Patricia having all of them. Because when did Nora make the board? On Oasis? We didn’t see it with her when her and Louisa escaped! In Caulfield? How would Patricia have gotten it then? Why was it not a family legend passed down for m*ria's family if they were the guardians like the Valenti family? Mimi clearly thought Jesse and Jim just got mixed up in something and didn’t know what it was. It's just suuuuch a mess with no build up when it could have been teased from the start! Maybe Kyle found a piece in Caulfield while he was gathering stuff up before it exploded!
As much fun as learning about Dallas has been, m*rai did nothing this episode but drag his scenes down. She basically served as a rubber duck for Dallas to bounce info off of for the audience. Too bad Lucky isn’t still around, that would have been just as useful but at least enjoyable to watch. The whole symbol conversation was ridiculous given how instantly recognizable it is. As they both point out, before acting like it’s brand new information literally a minute later so m*ria can have an idea about it 🙄  I’m surprised they didn’t end up going to every Christian church in the area (there are hundreds in Roswell actually) because that symbol is everywhere. Apparently everyone and their mother know about the abandoned “church” but somehow it’s still miraculously empty of people or kidnap victims when they show up (guess they didn’t poke around enough to see the chair with rope around it?), and somehow everyone knows about the building but NO ONE knows about the SHED with the big ass TREE in it that grows STRANGE FRUIT?! REALLY?!  And don’t even get me started on the Dallas backstory bit which, while sweet, makes zero sense with the other info we have about the time period and people involved. Did his dad put him in a pod and drive to a different town and put his pod in a lake before he was captured? Did someone else do it? If so, who? How was he out and freely living so long without reconnecting with his triad who were in the area? Clyde says he can feel Bonnie so clearly there is a triad connection! Why didn’t the military confiscate everything in that barn when they took him? Who knows! Not ever, ever us. Again, more questions that only arise because they contradict the stuff we already know.
Should have put in my Sparks Joy post that I would be delighted if m*ria and Dallas end up related? Because as much as I need them to stop using him as a reason to give m*ria screentime, I would absolutely cackle about that development. Everyone wanted her with Iz and they turned out related (but somehow still never addressed how close of relations that made her and Michael), so this would just tickle me to death.
As much as it’s nice getting SOME pod siblings moments, especially Max and Michael not ending on a fight, Max is STILL using every opportunity to throw Michael’s relationship with Alex in Michael’s face and I haaaate it. Also, why did they not have this discussion at the house? Because they drove out to the middle of the desert to look for Eduardo, and Michael suddenly decided Max needs to be back with Liz. Where he just was. Did Michael kick him out of the car and make him walk back to his house? Did he drive him back the way the just came and then drive all the way back out to the middle of nowhere to keep looking? (With THESE gas prices?!) It’s like they stage these scenes in a place that looks cool without any thought about how they characters got there, who all is there, when it takes place, how they end up where they do next, how long it takes to get anywhere, there is just no continuity!
So apparently squeezing their (alien?) organs produces enzymes that help powers manifest? Does everyone on Oasis palpate their kids organs to make their powers grow? Would doing so to Michael manifest any other powers seeing as how he’s also got DNA from Jones but only ever had the same telekinesis that apparently all aliens have until he found out he was immune to fire. Which apparently also now means he can summon it at will? Would have been nice to see that happening or talked about. Also, with as, frankly frighteningly poor control as Max has, I can’t imagine he’s had all these abilities from Jones and WASN’T basically Jack-Jack from The Incredibles going absolutely haywire all this time. And if all aliens have telekinesis, why did Max and Isobel have to work so hard to do it, when Michael had to work so hard NOT to and still many years down the line slipped up enough that he got branded as having demons?! (they were 7 when they came out of the pods? and 13 at the exorcism?) I want to be more excited about the alien stuff but it just feels like the writers don’t know anything about their own show or lore.
As fun as it’s been watching Liz and Cam have scenes together I’m once again asking why Liz isn’t having these heartfelt scenes with someone closer to her, like, oh IDK, ROSA! Yes Amber wasn’t available at the start but they could have done phone calls and just filmed Liz’s part and filmed Rosa’s later. The show wrapped before it started airing it’s not like they had the episode out before Amber was back on set. Or Michael who would also encourage pushing Max. Oh right, she did get to have her once per season 2.5 minute scene with m*ria to remind everyone they’re BFFs I guess 🙄 Also Liz brings up m*ria losing her visions means she can’t see Mimi anymore, but m*rai lost her visions BEFORE mimi died, and also, she died YESTERDAY. Not that you would know it based on literally anything happening. Also her “seeing the future” has literally never come in handy before so IDK why everyone is so distraught about it now 🙄
Clyde’s character continues to be all over the place, suddenly opening up to Michael, and being chill with Bonnie’s choices, not pushing about what happened with Eduardo, just, GIVING Michael the sky map, like??? Also sticking with my theory he and Bonnie should have been a couple. Also are we just supposed to....forget? that he AND BONNIE joined forces with Jones to commit genocide against their own people? But we’re supposed to buy wide-eyed, innocent Bonnie and Clyde saying the “first time” is always the hardest about her while 10 minutes earlier Bonnie was just saying she didn’t want to hurt people anymore?
I haaaaate that they are having Max and Cam talk about how she was in love with him (is it past tense if she’s still wondering what could be?), and how much he cared for her too. This should have happened in season 1 or if Cam wanted some space to get over it first, it should have happened in season 2 at the latest. She wasn’t even IN season 3, we are well past the time for having this discussion and now it’s just eating up screentime.
I guess Alex getting kidnapped by Eduardo and then, I don’t know, sitting back and getting his additional soda flavors from the Deep Sky lab techs while Eduardo bonded with the team and helped take down Jones makes him “really important” to Alex. The thing is, I WANT him to be really important to Alex! Alex deserves a good father figure! But we haven’t SEEN it or even been TOLD about it until this moment, when everyone is looking for Eduardo while Alex is currently eating dirt in a hole and no one cares.
The bandana is still a thing so why did we have to watch Alex take it off and them walk off alone through what looks to be a dystopian-ly empty town square while Jesse’s statue takes up the entire frame if they haven’t talked about it, and Michael’s still wearing it. If Rosa can come back as a Catholic miracle to Arturo and as Rosalinda to the rest of the town, SURELY Michael could get “miracle” surgery?
Max exploding in anger, what else is new? But even worse than him exploding in anger and hurting Liz and then the writers having HER apologize to HIM and decide to take equal blame, is the fact that the danger barely has a chance to register before it’s over. Instead of Max passing out after his outburst, or Tezca knocking him out and Liz getting hurt and Max waking up to Cam trying to keep Liz alive, and being worried that his fritzing powers are going to hurt her more, he just heals her in a blink and everyone moves on. THIS is the kind of drama we actually WANT to see, not the same cyclical patterns of them lying to each other and fighting about what avenue needs to be taken to fix whatever big problem is currently happening. That first healing where Max wasn’t even sure he could do it?! That moment is still amazing, and every time they have him heal her and brush it off it cheapens the power until it becomes mundane and I hate it.
Liz saying they want things to be simpler than they can be just rubs me the wrong way because things SHOULD be simple! Look at Malex! They loved each other even as broken teens with poor coping mechanisms and walls a mile high. Their separation came from outside forces, compounded by their trauma responses and them stopping communicating effectively with each other. Once they moved past all that? It was simple! They still have to work at it, but Michael sounds SO excited and content when he says he regrets not letting Alex in every time he shuts him out, because he KNOWS how good it feels, how much easier it is to let Alex it. But that has never been Echo’s problem. They don’t have outside forces keeping them apart, they have fundamentally different ideas about how to do nearly everything and when they should be pulling closer and working together they are ALWAYS lying to each other and shutting each other out. It’s not “simple” because they...aren’t compatible. And I hate that because I LIKED Echo when the show first started and I wanted to keep liking them but the writers make it SO HARD to root for a couple that can never tell the truth and work together on anything. Also Max is....who they decided Max should be. Remember when he fell all over himself when he saw her for the first time and when he begged her not to die and every time he looks at her with heart eyes when she’s being incredibly smart? If they had leaned into that instead of the “brooding, dark, tortured hero” aspect, he and their relationship would be so much better and more interesting.
.Supposedly Michael tells Dallas the fruit from the alien tree is fuel, not food? Even though he took a bite? Fuel for...their ships? For their minds? Did Clyde say that? Is this another thing they just pulled out of the air and put in a throwaway line to come back in 4 episodes where we’re expected to remember?
At least according to the preview for next week, that kiss from Bonnie was good for something besides proving that Michael is loyal to Alex, but honestly we should have seen Clyde say something to Bonnie by the end of that episode asking her like, a vague "did you do it?" and her saying yes and looking upset about it, and then seen Michael cough or something. Then this whole episode we should have seen a little something in each of his scenes, not much, maybe a sniffle here and a cough there, or a shiver, but something so that when he collapses at the end it all comes together. But we only saw his powers flicker once before that last scene and that was it! I honestly thought when I saw that, that we would find out there were alien flowers or something in the cave damping his powers. Instead they just had a kiss happen out of nowhere and then circled back 3 weeks later to make it into something different. As heavy handed aa RNM can be they somehow fully missed out on foreshadowing this. Like yeah it's a day or 2 in show time, but 3 weeks for the audience.   Also, Michael hasn't really been physically hurt since the shed and Alex isn't even there to catch his boyfriend when he passes out?! Alex isn’t there when Michel gets to sit and look up at the map to his home planet?! This is Michael all alone after finding out Sanders wanted to adopt him all over again.
Speaking of Alex and the show missing opportunities, we are 3 full episodes and a month for the viewers past Alex getting quicksanded and you STILL want me to believe Michael isn’t the slightest bit worried about not hearing from Alex? I get that they need Michael to go nuts at the right time since apparently Alex is missing for quite a bit of the season and they needed Michael to be doing other things, but that’s like, SUCH an easy fix?! We JUST saw Michael being worried he messed everything up and Alex saying he trusts their relationship to be okay even if he’s gone for a bit. Michael being worried but forcing himself to push it back because he thinks he’s overreacting makes PERFECT sense for him! We should be seeing him leaving a couple messages every episode, updating Alex on what’s going on and sometimes just inane things like making fun of something Max said. We should see him talking with Dallas, and Liz, and Max about being upset Alex isn’t answering but how he thinks he’s overreacting until finally he says something to Kyle and Kyle validates that Michael’s not overreacting and he’s worried too. We should be feeling like the Jaws theme is playing in the background and watching the knowledge that something has happened to Alex getting closer and closer to their realization. Even if for some reason we couldn’t see Alex (though it’s the same thing as with Rosa, if he’s in a hole, they could shoot him alone in whatever space they are keeping him at a later date since the whole show wrapped before airing), we should be seeing everyone else, but especially Michael feeling his absence in every single episode.
Finally, and much as I’m ready to FINALLY get the Kybel train moving, I was absolutely correct that it would be rushed and either they wouldn’t get together until the end, or they would shove them together RIGHT after the breakup and either way it wouldn’t feel like the story Kyle and Isobel deserve. I guess this is the better option as we have more episodes to enjoy Kybel content (that is, if they don’t decide to be awkward about it and Kyle doesn’t get quicksanded with Alex to keep them apart), but BOY does it feel cheap to not only have them getting together within about 24 hours of Isobel breaking up with Anatsa, but also to have IN THE SAME EPISODE, in the span of a few hours, Isobel going from crying about driving the best relationship she’s ever had off a cliff to “she wasn’t my person”. And Isobel brings up something Kyle said two full seasons ago as like, a reason she never thought he was an option, but she was off hooking up with someone else that night, so how are we the audience supposed to connect that blip of a moment that I do not remember to Isobel liking Kyle this whole time but thinking he didn’t like her? AGAIN, this is something we should have been seeing hints of since that episode or at the very least had Isobel mention something last season before going out with Anatsa about thinking he’s not an option for her so she’s going to take a chance on someone else. It’s just so frustrating that all the tiny crumbs are being held up like, “look this has been here all along!” because the writers are bad at their jobs and can’t seem to hit the broad side of a barn-sized emotional beat to save their lives.
Finally finally, here is a live reaction of us waiting for literally anyone to care about Alex because if I don’t laugh a little Imma tear my hair out

Opinion on the hexside kids so far? ( willow gus and my personal favorite amity)
Oooh, this is a fun question! I love them all a lot so far, in different ways.
(cut for long)
Willow is intriguing to me, and I got attached to her really quickly - she’s kind and soft-spoken, but she’s also very powerful, and that subtle contrast is really fun! Her troubles have taken center stage in both Episode 3 and Episode 6 and we’ve learned a lot about her, and it’s been great seeing her start to overcome her insecurities and gain more confidence in herself. I’m curious about what her shared history with Amity means for both their characters as well.
Speaking of episodes 3 and 6, I really liked how they hone in on Willow’s character arc during both episodes, so that it almost feels as if she’s the main character for a bit. The show did the same thing with King in Episode 4; even though Luz is still there and still very much the protagonist, she’s not the one who has a problem that she needs to communicate to someone else or a lesson she needs to learn. (She did have her own thing going on in Episode 3, but it was separate from Willow’s arc in that episode.) It’s a really good way of getting you to root for the character involved, and making them feel important.
As far as Willow herself goes, she’s what I would call a “soft fave” character. So far, I haven’t quite gotten to the point where I have any “big fave” characters - the ones I get extra invested in - but she’s the type of character who always makes me happy when they show up. She’s a powerful witch, a good friend, and an appreciator of any and all plants... what’s not to love?
Gus has been fun from the start, and I feel as if learning what his magical specialty is provided a little bit of extra insight about him, but so far, I feel as if he hasn’t gotten to really shine in an episode yet? He’s mostly been there to round out the trio and have some really great interactions with Luz and Willow, which I’ve definitely enjoyed, but I’m hoping he’ll get an episode of his own in due time. I’m fairly confident that he will, but for now I’ll just go off what I do know about him already.
I think what stands out about him so far is his confidence and tendency towards the dramatic - he balances Willow out really well, and it’s easy to see how they gravitated towards being friends, since they’re both really fun people but also have personalities that complement each other where it counts. He’s able to think fast and talk fast in tough situations, too, which is either really helpful (Episode 3) or results in some pretty funny dialogue (Episode 6). All of these are pretty good qualities for an illusionist, I think... when his magical specialty was revealed in Episode 5, my main thought was “yeah, that seems really appropriate for him”. It was the same way I felt when Willow first changed into her green uniform - in both cases, it just feels right for the character.
To be honest, I’d love to see more about how normal school life is for both Gus and Willow and how they study magic, but given our protagonist is officially banned from Hexside, I’m not sure how feasible that would be.
Finally, we come to Amity. This is a tricky one - mostly because my opinion on Amity is partly influenced by what I knew about her going into the show. The short answer is, I really like her already, and she’s absolutely one of my favourite characters so far. so basically the same as half the cast at this point
I know she’s going to have some major character development in the future, and her relationship with Luz, in particular, will improve immensely over the course of the show. Beyond that, I don’t really have any information about how it will play out, but early/minor antagonists who later become allies are the kind of characters I really enjoy! For Amity, this means that I’m having fun with both her petty antagonism, especially later on in Episode 3 and for most of Episode 5, as well as the little moments that hint that there’s more to her than that, such as the conversation she had with Luz in Episode 5, and whatever the heck was going on with her at the tail end of Episode 6.
I do also appreciate that she’s still being difficult and a bully even after what happened in Episode 5; she may have understood someone else for a brief moment, but it takes more than a moment to change your perspective on things. She acknowledged Luz in that scene, even if it was in a roundabout way, but she’s back to “#humanscanbiteit” in Episode 6. That said, I do think her treatment of Willow was... almost more subdued, compared to Episode 3 - it might just be because their interaction was relegated to a single line, but it could also be because she’s recognised, on some level, how powerful Willow is, and is in denial because she doesn’t deal well with being wrong. That’s my theory, at least!
I think it goes without saying that my favourite moment from her so far was the Episode 5 conversation. It proved that she was exactly the kind of character I thought she was - someone who’s overconfident and condescending because she’s put in a lot of work to be the best, and has kind of forgotten in the process that other people can work hard and be good at things, too. It showed that kindness isn’t something that comes easily to her (though if she was friends with Willow in the past, maybe it did back then...) but that she’s willing to put in the effort to see things from a different perspective, if she’s given the opportunity.
Add on to this the fact that, going by her house in Episode 6, she appears to be a rich kid, and I’m also starting to wonder how much of the pressure on her to “get to the top” is self-imposed, and how much comes from being part of a rich and most likely important family, who would have expectations of their own for her. I’m sure that a lot more about her background will become clear in time, and I’m definitely looking forward to it!
I feel as if there’s a lot more that I could say about these kids, but I hope this makes for a good start!

Hey, I don’t know if you have any requests or were planning to do anyone for character Tuesday but if you don’t mind, since you asked me to do Isogai for your ask game, I want to see you answer those questions for him if that’s alright
I was actually wondering who I should do, so I really appreciate the ask. ^^
Character Tuesday, Yuuma Isogai!
1 – Favorite color?
I'm actually borrowing this from my husband, but I think it really suits Isogai too. A soft medium brown, like a teddy bear, because it is warm, inviting, and nostalgic. It's comforting and safe and filled with joy and innocence. A nice and warm brown. 😊
2 – Hobbies?
Collecting and memorizing motivational quotes. Checking things off his to-do list, which makes him feel accomplished. Volunteering and helping people out in general.
3 – What are their strengths?
Superior time management skills, improved by his time in 3-E. Multi-tasker. Able to stay positive in even the darkest of situations, or to see the light at the end of any tunnel. Sympathetic.
4 – What are their weaknesses?
Takes on too much for a good cause. Prone to burnout if time isn't managed correctly. Thoughtful and hesitant when the situation demands immediate action.
5 – Favorite food(s)?
Free food.
6 – Least favorite food(s)?
Expensive food. 😆
7 – What would be their dream job?
Something that gives back to the community and provides for his family at the same time, like a job at a non-profit organization. I could also see him doing something that people rely on like a government job or construction. I don't see him doing anything big that gets a lot of attention like the authorities or a government official, but something smaller that most would overlook so he could subtly make a difference in the world.
8 – What is their DND alignment?
I think he is neutral good. It's not about following the rules and keeping your head down but making sure it is best for most people while keeping their wellbeing and needs in mind regardless of the consequences of that.
9 – What is their hidden talent?
It's not really hidden, but he's good at anticipating a person's needs. Like, scary good. I imagine there are countless instances of "I didn't know how much I needed this until you gave it to me." Oh, here's how I could make it "hidden". When he gets those customers at the cafe that say "whatever you think's good", he gets them something and it's exactly what they wanted, or it becomes their new favorite drink/dessert at the cafe. Like I said, scary good.
10 – List a personality quirk of this person.
In Kristmas Karma, he mentally goes through a list of things he needs to do and then mentally checks them off throughout the day, then writes a new one at night with added things and finished things removed. This accomplishes a few things: it's a good mental exercise, it helps with organization, because it's in his mind it's flexible with change, and it keeps him mentally active. I imagine his list is very important to him.
11 – List something strange/weird/unexpected about this character that their loved ones probably don’t know about them.
I think he knows and understands just how to hurt people. He has no desire to ever act on this information, but sometimes when Karma does something mean or Nakamura pranks Nagisa, Isogai appears embarrassed for them. I think this is because he knows how best to hurt someone, and this is why he's so good at avoiding it. It's the key to being a true Ikeman. Knowing how to hurt someone means you know exactly what not to do and how to avoid doing it accidentally. But that's also a bit dark, so I don't think anyone would ever know this about him.
12 – What is their complex? (Sister, inferiority, etc) Explain.
Okay, I have to look up the list of complexes literally every time I answer this. 😑 So this one is tricky. I can see others perceiving him to have the Messiah complex, which in an alternate definition refers to the state of mind in which an individual believes that they are responsible for saving or assisting others. I imagine he has this because of the responsibility he took on in the household at age 14 after he lost his father. But I can also see him having a Superman complex, which is an unhealthy sense of responsibility, and a person with this complex may feel the constant need to "save" others and take on more work to compensate than is necessary. I don't think it leads to a problem with pride or is overly serious in Isogai's case, because of his quirk of checking his own mental and physical wellbeing each day, but I don't think it's so far away that he doesn't have these complexes either. Of all the ones listed, these are definitely the ones I think he suffers from, at least to some extent.
13 – What is their main sin of the seven deadly ones?
Glutton. There's an interesting interpretation for this sin, it doesn't have to be for just food. You could be a glutton for punishment which can take many forms, one of them being the type to "do too much". Workaholics are gluttons, for work. Perfectionists are gluttons, for perfection. And Isogai is definitely a glutton for kind gestures and good deeds, to the point where if he or someone else doesn't help him regulate it, it could do a lot of damage to him physically, mentally and emotionally. I imagine he usually has a good handle on it though.
14 – How would they be as a parent?
He'd be an amazing dad, and I imagine it's his dream to have a nice big family some day. I think he'd wait to start one until his 30's or so because he'd want a nice amount of financial backing before he started it in case anything happened to him. I also think he'd classify anyone from 3-E as his kids' aunts and uncles just to make it that much bigger. I totally see him being the house that hosts giant gettogethers every year for the holidays.
15 – What is their main love language?
I wanted to say Touch, but honestly, I think it's Acts of Service. I was initially going to say Touch, but then I thought of how I wrote him in Kristmas Karma. I remember him being so thankful to Sugaya for getting him art supplies for his little sister and Karasuma helping out with his charity project, and that's Acts all the way. They say that it's harder to see people who have the same love language as you, so that's probably why I want to say Touch instead of Acts, even if it doesn't really make sense to say Touch. 😅
16 – How do they act around a crush?
It depends. I can see him being a little dense about his own feelings initially, but if he knows, I think he'd make it a point to do something for them every day. It can be as small as letting the person keep his eraser after forgetting their own or buying them gloves because they never seem to have any. (Quoting @heyhellohihowareyou's fanfic, Mittens.) But I do think he'd try to do something every day.
17 – How do they act when they are in love?
It'd be a lot like 16 but amped up. Instead of one thing, it'd be anything he could think of to make their lives easier without being overbearing (which is important).
18 – How would they react to a confession of love?
I think very politely. I can see him thanking them and saying how special it makes him feel, but also he'd be modest about it. Afterwards though, if he has any feelings of his own for this person, this is how he would become aware of them, in my opinion.
19 – How do they show their love/affection?
Lots of cuddles and spending generous amounts of time with them. It really wouldn't matter what they do, as long as they're together. 😊
20 – What is their idea of a good time?
Something relaxing or fun. Family game nights, a solitary stroll in the park, meeting friends at an amusement park, going to the beach with someone he loves. Whatever has him outside and enjoying life is time well spent, in his mind.
21 – Describe their ideal date.
I think his ideal date is something where he nor his date has to lift a single finger. I can see him planning out every last detail, a driver, a fancy restaurant, a trusted friend willing to act as their butler for everything else, and all he and his date have to do is simply enjoy each other's company. You know, because everything else is taken care of, so they have all the time in the world to pay attention to what's important, each other.
22 – How do they handle drama?
I think he does his best to either stay out of the way or play peace keeper. In a lot of ways, I see him as a self insert mediator for just about any situation that calls for it.
23 – What is their sexual preference/sexuality?
I strongly feel he is a hetero demi-sexual. Because of his strong family values and being in Japan, he would only be interested in girls he was emotionally invested in, like a friends to lovers type thing.
24 – What is their BDSM tag? (Brat, sub, Master, vanilla, etc)
Isogai is very versatile and I usually use BDSM tags to explain their general dynamics with others in relationships, but honestly, I'd have to label him as Vanilla, not just because he doesn't have any kinks (standard use of BDSM tags) but because he doesn't mind being the controller or controllee in any situation. He's flexible, he could be top or bottom, he can lead or follow, and he's happy as long as his partner's happy. So, I guess Vanilla just means versatile when it comes to my alternate use of BDSM tags.
25 – What is their phobia or greatest fear?
It's a small thing, but I think it's the unlived life. Part of it is because he lost his father, but since Isogai's responded quite well in my opinion, I think his father made sure to enjoy every moment with his family. He probably played games and volunteered and always wore a genuine smile. Isogai would feel bad for anyone that didn't get to love life so much, and I think he'd be afraid of also not having fun in his. That's why I added the quirk in Kristmas Karma of him checking his own wellbeing and state of mind every morning. If he's not happy, then why is he doing it? I think it's really important to him to enjoy life, even if it's busy.
26 – What is their emotional damage?
I'm taking from my own experience in this case, so here's a little of my backstory. When I lost my mom, I actually got a 4.0 that semester. I had ambitions and goals and so many classes (I was in college) I was ready to take. It wasn't until the first anniversary of her death that it hit me. And it really hit. Just suddenly, I missed her. I didn't do so well that semester and barely scraped by. My ambitions disappeared. I couldn't do anything. And then the month of May (which also contained her birthday AND Mother's Day) became a month where I learned to take it easy. Don't pick up extra projects, don't make goals, and expect to be unexpectedly sad some days. I can definitely see Isogai going through something similar around his father's death day. He'd be more prone to zoning out, forget items on his list, completely skip adding or removing things from it and just being completely unorganized. But like every season, it will fade and all will return to normal, but each year, that dark cloud would return. It wouldn't matter how many years passed by either. I think his father was probably the first major loss he ever experienced, and thus would leave the biggest mark on his heart.
27 – How do they handle emotional pain?
It might sound weird, but I think he'd make time for it on in his schedule by putting it on his list. It's important to feel emotions, and avoiding them would effect his emotional and mental wellbeing, so there must be time for it. I doubt it works out that smoothly though. 🤔
28 – How do they handle physical pain?
Okay, so, honestly? I think he's a big baby. He'd be the guy putting up a front like "I'm fine!" while balling his eyes out. "It doesn't hurt at all!" *Floods the room with his tears. Makes you just want to bandage it up and give him a big hug and kiss it all better. However, I also think that if the moment called for it, he'd would just brush it off in the moment and cry about it later. I just imagine him as one big squish. 😊 But I also see him doing his best to make light of it too, so as not to inconvenience others with it.
Example: Isogai: "It's fine, really!" Person: "YOUR ARM IS BROKEN!!!" Isogai: "It only hurts a little!" *Tears cascading down his smiling face. "Okay, maybe a little more than a little."
29 – What would bring them to kill someone?
He is one of the few people that would rather sacrifice himself than to kill someone else. In 3-E, he truly tried taking down Korosensei, but the more his teacher evaded their traps, the more he believed he actually couldn't kill him, which in turn made him try harder, but I imagine there was always something in the back of his head that hoped Korosensei would just keep escaping death. Something like "well darn, I missed him again. Wouldn't you know it." *Snaps fingers and stomps foot, an obvious act. I just don't see him having it, that desire to take life, even if it meant losing his own.
30 – How would they react or change after they’ve killed someone? To go along with 29, if he were to take out Korosensei, it would break him. I think he'd become catatonic or mutter to himself over and over "why didn't he dodge it like he always does?" and he wouldn't get over it. Korosensei is a unique kill because it would keep the rest of the world safe in the process, but literally no one else would be worth so many lives for him to justify killing them himself. So if it were anyone but Korosensei, he would never recover either. I think he'd replay it over and over in his head. It would haunt him. He'd lose sleep. He'd obsess over what else he could've done besides killing them. Now, it's different if someone else were to kill someone. Because Isogai strikes me as the forgiving type, he could forgive a murderer, but he couldn't forgive himself for becoming one if there was another way.
As always, I hope I did him justice. Thanks for the ask! And if anyone else would like me to do the whole ask game (or just part of it) for someone I haven't done, let me know or send in an ask. I seem to have trouble picking my own lately. No idea why.
Have a good day!

Read on Ao3 here.
Chapters: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
/////////////////////////////
“You…want to end the 2H program already?” Kotetsu Isane says, blinking in surprise.
“Yes,” Akane replies, sitting in a chair before her captain’s desk. “Something has come up, and it’s no longer ethical for me to offer Zaraki-taichō this program.”
The taichō in question is standing by the door, his arms folded inside his shihakusho as Akane and Isane speak. He looks almost asleep, his visible eye closed, but neither woman would bet on it in a million years.
The 4th’s captain picks up a cup of tea, looking to her subordinate in concern. “And it’s no longer ethical because…?”
Akane takes a deep breath and folds her hands primly on her thigh. “I am in the process of falling in love with him.”
The perfectly warm liquid Isane had just sipped sprays back out in shock, and though some tea is now dripping off her chin, she stares owlishly at Akane. Kenpachi grumbles faintly in the back, a warning rumble about both the spit-take and Akane going all formal again. “I…you…what?”
“As I said. Truthfully, he and I have had feelings for each other for some years, but they were never acted upon for…well, one reason or another.” Meeting Isane’s eyes, Akane nods. “Once I realized how I…or, well, how we both felt, I knew it would be unethical to continue treating him as a healer. Therefore, I am ending the 2H program.”
“You…that is…very well, and I…” She’s having a hard time with words again. Kenpachi almost laughs. “I thank you for doing the right thing and telling me, instead of trying to continue. You have my respect for that.” She pauses as she mops up some of the tea on her desk. “Do you have ideas for a replacement?”
“I do not,” Akane says carefully, “as there will be no need for one. I may not be continuing the 2H program as his healer, but I will be continuing to spend as much time with him as I can. As his lover.”
“Girlfriend,” he grunts from the back, and she shoots him a look over her shoulder, one that’s half exasperated and half fond. He just grins at her.
“Usually,” Isane says, though secretly she finds that exchange rather adorable, “fraternization like this is frowned upon as well.” She watches both Akane and Kenpachi stiffen, the latter’s visible eye narrowing dangerously at his fellow captain, and she feels the proverbial ice cracking under her feet. “...however,” she continues, a little breathlessly, “as you are not in the same division there should be no worries about favoritism. And Kyōraku-taichō has eased that restriction a lot since he took over. Chōko-san, you will return to work here full time, but you may reside with Zaraki-taichō as his significant other.” She pauses as both of them relax, Kenpachi looking pleased and Akane looking relieved. “...and considering you are still one of the few people able to heal him, you may still act as his healer when he comes here injured.” Isane meets Kenpachi’s eye. “So long as you continue to visit for actual medical necessities, Zaraki.”
“Yeah, yeah,” he grumbles.
“I understand, Kotetsu-taichō. Thank you very much!”
Isane smiles. “Thank you, for doing the right thing before it became a problem. I shall inform the medical wards that you will be back on the schedule tomorrow.”
Akane stands and bows, and leaves the room with Kenpachi. As soon as the door to the captain’s office shuts, she surprises him by suddenly crying out, “YES!” and leaping into his arms.
He starts laughing as he catches her, swinging her around and making a nearby medic have to duck (though whether the medic ducked or swooned out of fear of Kenpachi’s laughter, no one knows but them). He kisses her soundly, then slips the crook of his arm under her butt and holds her to his torso as he makes his way out of the 4th. “Damn, that went a lot easier than I expected,” he rumbles as they step out into the sunshine.
“I knew that it would,” she replies smugly, one hand burying happily in his mane as she contents herself to being carted around. “Kotetsu-taichō is the reasonable sort. I didn’t try to hide…us, so she didn’t have any reason to take action that would hurt us.”
He raises an eye-ridge up at her as they leave the courtyard. “You still sure about this? You uh…could do much better, you know.”
She softens, and to both of their surprises she leans forward and presses a soft, fond kiss to his cheek. “And I could do much, much worse,” she says seriously. “Zaraki Kenpachi, you’re a good man, and it’s my honor to be falling in love with you.”
To her delight, he begins to blush, and he quickly looks away as she hides a happy giggle behind her hand. But he’s pleased, even if he doesn’t say so out loud. “Yeah, well,” he huffs, but any ire is obviously fake, “I’m beginning to think you’re just as crazy as I am. Now come on, where’s that furniture store in Rukongai?”
She grins and points, and he lifts her up so that she’s got her arms around his shoulders, and he takes off, speeding through the Seireitei, following her directions. She feels…light, lighter than she has in a long time, and not just because the giant man is carrying her like she weighs nothing. Akane hasn’t been in love like this since…Her mind stutters to a sudden halt. No. No. She stops that line of thought in its tracks. She’s never really been in love like this before. Not once in her life, ever.
And it’s wonderful, she realizes. But she also knows that she’s got her work cut out for her. Kenpachi is a much more intelligent man than almost everyone gives him credit for, but when it comes to emotions and relationships? Putting it tactfully would be to call his growth in those areas ‘stunted.’ She knows they’re going to run into problems, like the one they had yesterday. She just has to be ready for them, to remember to not leap to being defensive, to be understanding before accusing.
And there’s still her own obliviousness when it comes to herself.
But she’s got this. She thinks.
She hopes.
//////////////////////////////////////
Kenpachi, it turns out, has a pretty good sense of style after all. She’s beginning to wonder if he’ll ever stop surprising her.
She’s smiling as he watches the huge captain move around the furniture showroom, his visible eye roaming over the different pieces. It turns out that he has a fondness for birch wood, especially if some of the bark is still on. She’s thrilled that he’s taking this seriously, even sounding enthusiastic when he finds a piece he really likes. A full living room set of furniture is ordered: a large curio cabinet, a bookcase, a low sitting table, a long, rectangular cabinet for storage, and a new couch, overstuffed in a beautiful snowy white. For the bedroom he gets a large dresser and two matching nightstands. She asks him about a bedframe, surprised he wouldn’t want one for their new bed. He grins darkly, leans down and murmurs into her ear, “Why the hell would I get somethin’ we’re just gonna break in two days?” She turns bright red and has to step outside for some air.
When they’d first entered the store, the staff had been visibly frightened. Now, as they watch the captain and his companion leave, they were all in a bit of shock at the amount of money he’d just dropped, and they’re happy to invite him back again whenever he needs anything.
Next, they hit up a weaponsmith. Kenpachi explains what he wants, functional weapons to decorate his walls, and the smith (a gruff man, but happy to have a shinigami captain coming to him) suggests a bunch of different options. Akane is smiling all throughout as her new lover picks out some beautiful pieces.
After that, it’s a whirlwind: they get paint to redo his plain walls, a rich red for the living room and bedroom with a pale cream for accents, and the same cream with red accents for the kitchen. He purchases a new dining set, a painting of a beautiful forest scene done in traditional Edo-style, and some pottery and vases that caught his eye.
They take a break in the mid-afternoon, Akane treating Kenpachi to lunch at a well-regarded ramen shop. They sit side-by-side, their thighs pressing together as they eat. “I’m so glad you’ve been having fun today, Kenpachi,” Akane says with a smile up at him once she’s finished eating.
Kenpachi, on his third bowl, swallows the noodles in his mouth before grinning down to her. “Yeah, it’s been pretty great. Didn’t know shoppin’ could be this much fun.”
Akane chuckles. “It definitely has its perks. Your quarters are going to look amazing once it’s done.”
“Our quarters,” he says gruffly, and she blinks up at him, then flushes faintly. But the pleased smile on her face says everything. He chuckles and leans down, giving her a short but very thorough kiss, and when he pulls away she’s flushing for a different reason.
“Akane-chan?”
The creaky, elderly voice makes Akane stiffen besides Kenpachi. Alarm bells start ringing as he feels a sudden barely contained panic in her reiatsu. He watches, on edge, as she exerts her masterful control over herself and schools her face into a pleasant neutrality as she turns to face the newcomer. Kenpachi turns and sees a tiny, incredibly frail, incredibly old woman. For all he knows she could be as old as Yamamoto himself! “Fumiko-san, hello! It’s been a long time.”
“Oh, Akane-chan, I’ve been so worried about you!” She totters over, taking hold of Akane’s hands. The panicky note in her reiatsu deepens. “Ever since you disappeared that day, I thought the worst. But here you are, looking healthy and happy. You’re a shinigami now? My, my, I always knew you had greatness in you.” She smiles kindly, and Kenpachi is flabbergasted. He can’t understand the link between Akane’s barely concealed panic and this kind old lady. “We all miss you at the main house, Akane-chan. We all know that what happened that night wasn’t your fault. Would you consider coming for tea sometime? I would dearly love to catch up.”
“Well, I…I’ll have to think about it, Fumiko-san,” she says carefully. He can feel minute trembles in her body, and how she keeps them out of her hands he’s not sure. “But I promise that…that I will. Think about it, I mean.”
Fumiko’s face falls, and she gives a sigh and pats Akane’s hands. “Well, I can’t say that I don’t understand. I wish you all the best, dear, and I hope that I see you again.” Kenpachi and Akane watch her walk away, her head bowed. A hand wraps hard around the huge captain’s wrist, and he looks down to see his new lover staring up at him with wide, desperate eyes.
“Kenpachi. Please get me out of here,” she whispers.
“Where?” he replies.
“Anywhere.”
Without another word, he scoops her up into his arms and takes off like a shot, sprinting out of town and deep into the forest. Akane is worriedly silent, trembling in his arms, and he can feel the warm wetness of tears soaking through his haori and shihakusho. His arms tighten around her as he comes to a stop in the darkness of the deep woods and takes a seat on a huge tree root. She buries her face into his neck and continues to tremble like a leaf. He just holds her, not wanting to poke whatever wound got ripped open by the appearance of that old lady.
Slowly, as the afternoon descends into evening and most of the light fades from the forest, the trembling eases. Her fingers unknot from his haori, and she’s only sniffling now, as opposed to actively crying. “You good to sit on your own for a minute?” he asks softly, and she nods. “Good, because I gotta piss.”
In spite of herself, she snorts a laugh. He grins faintly, taking that as a promising sign, and carefully sets her on the root system he’s been sitting on and steps behind a nearby tree. Akane stares into the dark, feeling hollowed out and empty. She hadn’t expected to run into Fumiko today. She’d been ancient back then, Akane thought that surely she’d have passed away by now.
Kenpachi steps back, picking Akane back up and settling on the ground with her on his lap. His arms wrap around her, and she presses her head to his chest, listening to his heartbeat, drawing comfort. “...you wanna talk about it?” he asks gruffly.
She’s quiet for a long moment, gathering up her courage and her words. “Thirty years ago,” she finally mumbles to his chest, “I almost married her grandson.” His eyes widen in shock. He feels the metaphorical rug get swept out from beneath his feet. “Their clan is one of the minor noble houses, so minor that they’re able to marry outside of nobility if they want. We met when I’d been running a healing house out near the 57th district…”

“Help!” Two men push into the building, one holding the other up as he rapidly loses blood. “Please, help, he’s bleeding out!”
“Bring him here!” Akane calls, quickly scrubbing down a table and rinsing it clean. “Tell me what happened, quickly!”
“We were attacked on the road out of town! Bandits tried to steal from his carriage. We fought them off, but barely, and he got messed up during it.” He lays the wounded man down on the table, and Akane quickly cuts his clothes away to assess the damage. She mutters to herself as she sluices away blood, and the man in her care now groans and peels his eyes open.
“Hey there,” she says with as reassuring a smile as she could manage. “You’re going to be just fine, don’t you worry.”
“Who…?” he rasps.
“My name is Chōko Akane. Can you tell me your name?” She’s already readying a needle and thread. Several of his wounds she’s going to need to use her reiatsu on, something she’s figured out how to do with some success over her years here.
“Koyama…Akihiko,” he manages, and then he passes out. Which is just as well, as she begins to do up his stitches.
The next time he wakes, it’s dark. She’s still there, though, by his side, and deeply asleep, her head pillowed on her arms on the table. He watches her sleeping face in the low light of a nearby lantern, and though he doesn’t know more than her name, he feels a tug at his heart.
Even after he’s fully healed, he still comes to see her. He brings her gifts: flowers, supplies for the healing house, delicious treats she’s ecstatic to try.
Before that spring is up, they’re deeply in love, and on the first day of May, he proposes.

“And things were…great, for a while,” she says, her voice flat, monotone. “They helped fund my clinic, I was able to save many more lives, and Akihiko and I were desperately in love with each other.” She takes a deep breath and curls her fingers around his, drawing on his presence for strength. “Then, three days before the wedding, a messenger came to the house. A woman from a clan one step below the four noble houses had seen him and took a liking to him. She wanted him for her husband, and the marriage would have brought their tiny clan into a much higher place of prominence.” She swallows. “He tried to talk me into letting him marry this woman, and keeping me on as his mistress. I wouldn’t hear of it. I told him to choose. He chose ambition. But…he was still deeply in love with me. So…that night, as we lay in bed…”
////////////////////////////////
She lay on her side, her back to him, silent tears trekking down her face. The following day she would be moving back to the room above her clinic, no fiancė to hold her as she sleeps. It feels like her world has been torn asunder. But she’ll just keep going on. It’s what she’s best at.
She hears him sigh softly. “I don’t understand why you couldn’t have just chosen to come with me,” he murmurs, true sadness in his voice. “I love you so much, and-”
“Please, just stop,” she whispers. “You’re only making this harder.”
“Why won’t you consent to this?!” he snaps.
“Because it’s not what I want for myself!” she finally cries. “I wanted to be your wife, Akihiko!” She rubs furiously at her face. “I have nothing against the women who say yes to an offer like that, but I can’t!”
He stands and pads away. “You’re making the wrong decision, Akane.”
“No, I’m not. Now leave me to sleep.”
He pads back. “Very well. Goodnight, my love. And goodbye.” She’s suddenly kicked over onto her back, and she watches in growing horror as the tip of a sword comes stabbing down towards her face.
Her eyes widen, filling with realization and betrayal, a gasp of pain leaving her lips as the razor sharp point slices into the bridge of her nose-
-her hands shoot out, her reflexes honed from living in a rough area her whole life. They wrap around his ankles and before the blade could penetrate further, she’s used her reiatsu to open up every vein and artery from his legs to his heart. He dies instantly, from a sudden massive loss of blood as it floods his body in places it’s not supposed to.
He drops with a squishy-sounding thud onto the floor, his eyes wide in death, blood pouring from his mouth. The sword tips over, the point sliding from her flesh, landing with a clang on the floor.
Her breath pours like sludge into her lungs.
She begins to tremble.
She begins to scream.
////////////////////////////////////
“I told the family exactly what happened when I came back to my senses,” Akane whispers. Kenpachi’s face is devoid of emotion as she tells her story, though the tenseness of his torso speaks volumes. “Considering he tried to take my life, they didn’t try to press charges. I suspect Fumiko-san had something to do with that-she always liked me. I left their house without saying goodbye and went directly to the Shin’Ō Academy. I couldn’t go back to my clinic, or that little town in the 57th district. Not when there were all those memories of him.” She shudders, hard, and his arms tighten gently around her, providing her support. “I never thought I’d see any of them again.”
He’s silent as he listens. He’s silent as he mulls over the tale she just told him. He’s silent as he stands, setting her down gently and starting to gather wood for a campfire. She watches him as best she can in the gloom, quiet, giving him his space to process. He uses a piece of flint and his sword to light the fire once it’s built, and he feeds in kindling as the fire takes. The light casts long shadows over the crags of his face. Akane thinks he looks beautiful.
Once the fire’s crackling merrily, he picks her up and sets her next to him. He turns her face to the light with a gentle hand on her chin, his eyes on that little scar on the bridge of her nose. She watches him as he gently runs the pad of his thumb over it, and then he leans down and presses a kiss to her forehead. “Nobles are shit,” he finally says. She snorts, explosively, and he grins faintly before sobering again. “Look, I can’t give you a flowery speech that’ll make you feel better,” he starts, his thumb dragging softly along her jaw. “Don’t have those kinds of words in me. But I can say that you were about to die, and you saved your own life.” He meets her eyes with his, and she sees one or two flecks of gold spark in those gray-green depths.
“I’m proud of you, Akane, for doin’ what you had to do.”
Her breath catches at his words. She feels fresh tears flood her eyes, but this time they’re of relief, of gratitude. And then she leans forward and kisses him, throwing her arms around his neck. He pulls her against him, wrapping her up in his arms, almost cocooning her within the shelter of his embrace. Her hands push into his hair, holding him to her, her tongue tracing the seam of his lips. He shivers faintly and opens his mouth, allowing her to sweep her tongue inside and curl it against his own, licking against it and his teeth until he’s making low sounds in the back of his throat. But he pulls away, giving her a questioning look, as if asking if she’s sure about this right now. “Please,” she whispers, stroking her fingers over his face. “I need you, Kenpachi.”
That’s all he needs to hear.
