Rambelings about female Astartes
So, I think a lot of us have heard or seen or have memes/headcanons like „Female space marines basically look like male ones“ or „all astartes are he/him for administrative reasons!“ Which obviously are very fun. I do like them. A lot. But also… the consequences this would have for female astartes? Especially their mental health? Oh the drama! Cue the manic laugther
Imagine you are a woman, be it cis or trans, or just generally a more femme person. And you are in a hypermasculine society/group, that is super masculine and does masculine things like ripping demons apart with giang chaonsaws and swearing endless love to your battlebrothers. Which probally get‘s kind of annoying for everone, but is might still be mostly fine.
Now imagine that your body is also super masculine. Very broad shoulders, no boobs, deep voice, if you don‘t shave you‘ll grow a beard. You can‘t change this. Your society absoultly can do hormone treatments and boob jobs but you won‘t get them. A lot of people would get dysphoria from that sooner or later. And as someone who suffers/suffered from ligther forms of dysphoria, it is absolutly horrible. It can make you harm yourself. It can make you kill yourself.
Now add in that everyone expects you to be male and treats you like this. They use he/him pronouns for you and call you Sir, maybe even after beeing told that you don‘t want that. You still get misgendered all the damn time. The clothes you are issued are seen as masc by your society. People often don‘t even acknowledge that there are women in your organisation.
And now do this for decades, if not centuries. Would be really fun, right? No, of course not, but it would make for a very interesting character. (So of course that‘s what I‘m doing with my astartes-oc Johanna. I‘ll absolutly be rambeling about her soonish)

You got any trans Damien and or trans Yancy headcanons?
Boy, do I have headcanons???
(Tysm for the ask sorry this took me so long)
Damien
I used to heavily headcanon him as trans, not so much anymore but.
I had this old post that (jokingly but also not) both Celine and Damien were trans and just ended up swapping identities.
I believe that Damien would feel emasculated simply by being around his other male colleagues.
Since it’s the 1920s, a lot of men don’t wear facial hair and keep their face quite clean (aside from a nice handlebar above the lip), which gives Damien an excuse to not have facial hair at all
It also makes his clean reputation very attractive to all the ladies in town
All in all, he feels very empowered when he becomes Dark, who (in my headcanon) can shape himself however he sees, giving Damien the liberty to make himself as big buff masculine.
But also, in my headcanon, Damien and Dark are two separate spirits, so this leaves some times where Dark has taken a more feminine form that day, it catches Damien off guard when he’s in control and leaves him dysphoric.
Yancy
TW// mentions of mvrd3r and transph0bia
Yancy I feel more strongly about. He is trans. 100%
My entire interpretation is that him being trans the reason he murdered his parents (paraphrasing)
Essentially, Yancy got incredibly bullied in the small town he lived in, and it only got worst as his best friend Jay ran off to become a geologist (iykyk)
Eventually it got to a point where he couldn’t take it anymore, and when he got home one night after rehearsal, he ran to his room for an hour, and went downstairs, had a screaming fit at his parents from built up anger and sh0t them when they tried to soothe him.
Thing is, there was a sudden surge of acceptance from his fellow prisoners when he arrived at Happy Trails
Despite being surrounded by big burly tough men, he was treated as the head of the pack essentially.
I don’t know if it’s a thing that prisoners can get operations while in prison but since this is the MarkCU lets say at Happy Trails they can.
Yancy has some badass top surgery scars, which he has tattoos around for decoration
Going back to his childhood, there were a lot of “transmasc theater kid” things he did
(What im not projecting nooo)
For instance, he would exclusively play the male parts when he sang songs from his favorite musicals (specifically “Maria” from West Side and “Johanna” from Sweeney Todd”)
He would do a lot of one man plays on the school playground sometimes, and clearly wouldn’t like singing the female parts
It’s also in my headcanon that he’s (in this current year) 29, which would make him a teen between 2007-2013. Definitely believe he had a quirky transmasc ukulele phase.
Not theater kid related but when he was little, he was definitely the “girl who always offered to pick up chairs when a teacher asked for a strong boy to help” type transmasc
Back to prison
When he first got into prison, he used binding tape for so long until he was literally wheezing any time he ran so the warden was like “look son let’s just get you top surgery and that’ll do it.”
Absolutely made a joke about giving himself top surgery with a shiv he found
Warden was not too happy abut that
Another defying the logic of reality thing, but after he got top surgery, he gifted his chest to Tiny who is transfem
Now that he’s out of prison, he bought a lot of greaser-type manly man things to fuel his euphoria (a motorcycle, smoking a lot more, a lot more piercings)
He also returns to his hometown every now and then to spite the locals and steal their wives.
He’s just such a bad boy >:) /j

New AU... Again
So, I was looking through tv tropes and found a "My Hero Academia" fanfic in which several of Class 1-A are revealed to be reincarnations and got to thinking: How would a similar concept with fewer crossovers work for MHA?
Here's how I think it goes: Izuku wakes up after a villain attack on Aldera Middle School to find himself in a strange red-colored place that looks similar to the subway system. The first person he sees is a girl about one year older than him trying to fight off an adult male in... a PINK SPEEDO?!?! Somehow this unlocks Izuku's memories from his previous life and goes completely feral on the perverted adult, who strangely evaporates into black mist after getting beaten up. The girl thanks Izuku and introduces herself as Kairi Aizawa, the adopted daughter of Eraserhead. But when they go to shake hands, their memories fully awaken.
Who the reincarnations are:
Izuku Midoriya, formally Akira Kurusu aka Joker of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts. Awakens Arsene as both his persona and his quirk. Hero costume is his phantom thief attire but more armoured. Uses a combat knife, grappling hook and specialized face mask as support gear. Still gets One for All from All Might.
Tenya Iida, formally Ryuji Sakamoto aka Skull. Quirk is still Engine but gets his original persona Captain Kidd back. Hero costume is similar to his canon one but looks like it was made from pieces of scrap and the helmet is replaced by his thief mask and a red bandana on his head. Uses collapsible mace as support gear. Dyes a blond streak into his hair, much to his parent's chagrin.
Ochako Uraraka, formally Ann Takamaki aka Panther. Has canon quirk but gets the persona Carmen. Hero costume is the same but has some red instead of pink and helmet is replaced with her thief mask. Uses a whip as support gear. Becomes Mineta's worst nightmare.
Eijiro Kirishima, formally Yusuke Kitagawa aka Fox. Had his original quirk stolen by All for One at age six but had a second one in the form of Ink Control/Celestial Brush. Regains persona Goemon. Uses a katana and collapsible gaint calligraphy brush as support gear. Does commissioned artwork for civilians and heroes alike.
Toru Hagakure, formally Makoto Niijima aka Queen. Also had her quirk stolen but trained hard in martial arts to compensate. Gets Johanna as her persona again. Uses knuckle dusters and armoured boots as support gear.
Mei Hatsume-Shirokumo, formally Futaba Sakura aka Oracle. Pretty much like canon but with Necronomicon added in. Inventions don't blow up and isn't as crazy in canon. If needing to fight, she uses original thief attire and a modified stun gun.
Momo Yaoyorozu, formally Haru Okumura aka Noire. Hero costume is thief attire with zippers for access to her quirk. Regains Milady. Uses battle axe as support gear. Finds it funny that she's rich in both lives and that the Okumura fortune was added to the Yaoyorozu fortune.
Hitoshi Shinso-Yamada, formally Goro Akechi aka Crow aka Black Mask. Brainwashing quirk was replaced with Raven Wings. Hero costume is dark, tattered version of his Crow attire. Persona is Robin Hood. Has collapsible sword for support gear. Is discovered to be Hawks' younger brother who was sold off by their parents.
Kairi Aizawa, formally Zenkichi Hasagawa aka Wolf. Quirk is Energy Chains. Persona is Valjean. Uses European long sword as support gear. Hero costume is thief attire. Was orphaned at age two and adopted by Aizawa at age ten. Is supposed to be a second year but was held back for some reason. (No one tries to understand Nedzu's reason for it)
Inasa Yoarashi, formally Morgana aka Mona. Has Zorro as persona. Has original wind quirk but also gained cat features from Grandmother's Jaguar quirk. Hates Bakugo from start as Bakugo taunted him saying stupid cats like him need to go back to the alleyways where they belong; Inasa turned Bakugo into a scratching post. Has a cutlass as support gear. Hero name is Slate, referencing his past life's status as a blank slate at first meeting Akira and Ryuji.
Himiko Toga, formally Sumire Yoshizawa aka Violet. Hates her quirk but is learning to control both it and her obsession with blood. Regains Cendrillon as persona and uses a rapier. Has taken up gymnastics and ballet.
Melissa Shields, formally Sophia aka Sophie. Gets Pandora as persona. Still quirkless. Uses combat yo-yos.
Other reincarnations are:
Tensei Iida, formally Kanji Tatsumi. Is unable to summon it but can talk to former persona, Take-Mikazuchi. Finds it hilarious that he and his brother were punks who dyed their hair blond, really cared about their moms, had skull motifs in their personas and used Zio(lightning) spells.#
Toshinori Yagi aka All Might, formally Raidou Kuzunoha the 14th. Met Izuku same way in canon but was surprised by Arsene's appearance. Learns about personas that day. Give One for All to Izuku to regain full use of the Wild Card ability.+
Shouta Aizawa aka Eraserhead, formally Shinjiro Aragaki. Has Castor. Hates himself for dying like he did but consuls himself that he was a hero. In a three-way relationship with Present Mic and Loud Cloud. Adopted Kairi.*
Hizashi Yamada aka Present Mic, formally Akihiko Sanada. Has Polydeuces. Has nightmares of when Shinjiro and Miki died but they are replaced with Shouta or their kids. In a three-way relationship with Eraserhead and Loud Cloud. Adopted Hitoshi.*
Oboro Shirokumo aka Loud Cloud, formally Minato Arisato. Has Orpheus. Has nightmares of his near death experience. In a three-way relationship with Present Mic and Eraserhead. Adopted Mei after her parents resigned custody over her to the foster system for her "worthless quirk".*

#= hit to the head awakened memories
+= gained memories over time

Female monarchs and Western civilization
Nowadays, there was a heated debated on how and why the European civilization gradually surpass other civilizations and dominated the world. When we come across this question, we may find different answers. We may find out that most of the largest and strongest European empires are highly associated with the rise of several female monarchs, including Isebella of Castile, whose marriage helps the union of modern Spanish nation and memorized for her contribution to the Reconquista and the ending of Moorish regimes in Iberia Peninsula and helping Christopher Columbus’s voyage by selling off her jewelry. We may also remember also think of Elizabeth I, who pacificated time-long religion conflicts in the England Kingdom, support British navy and pirates challenging Spain’s domination on sea, and pave the way to oversea colonization of the British Empire. We may also think of Catherine the Great, during her reign, Russian empire finally defeated Ottoman empire and gains the entirely north shore of Black Sea. She also participated in the Partition of Poland, ending the centuries-long superpower in Central Europe.
Actually, contradicted to general belief, female monarchs witness more wars than their male counterparts, and their countries are mor likely to see victories in wars with foreign countries and get territory expansion. On the contrary, female monarchs are less likely to experience civil unrests. The possible reasons may lay behind:
Firstly, although compared to most of Eurasian civilizations, European civilizations have more female monarchs, the total numbers of female monarchs and their ruling length are still quite limited, only accounts to at most 15% of record history in European countries. The most outstanding female monarchs usually witness more difficulties and experience a tough time during their young age, which greatly enhance their governing skills and toughness. What is more, these successful female monarchs usually take advantage of social class conflicts to gain their throne, and thus helps them to be more willing to compromise during their governance and prevent potential internal conflicts.
Secondly, female monarchs can get more help and advice from their partner. Their marriages can help expend their own kingdoms; examples abound. The marriage between Jadwiga of Poland and Władysław II Jagiełło paved the wave of Poland-Lithuanian Commonwealth’ creation, the marriage between Isabella of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon helps the two kingdoms gradually formed the Spain Kingdom and Margaret of Denmark’s relationships helps her to united Norway, Denmark and Sweden as a whole. What is more, the husband of queen reigns can rely more on their husbands, but Kings and Emperors seldom turn to their wives for help in military and political actions. But such hypothesis has a critical issue- not all female monarchs have a descent husband. Some, like Elizabeth I have never get married, others like Catherine the Great‘s husband, former Tsar Peter I ,was very unreliable.
Although these female monarchs seldom have the awareness of gender empowerment, their undeniable contribution to history have paved the way for future female monarchs and political leaders. After the regime of Isabelle of Castile, Spain, England and Scotland witness several outstanding female monarchs, including Johanna the Madness, Mary of England, Lady Grey, Mary of Scotland and the most famous one-Elizabeth I of England. Combing with European’s contact with indigenous people in the New World and Africa, during which female monarchs in Africa and Oceania, like the queens in Kongo, Madagascar, Ethiopia, Hawaii are more willing in learning from Western civilization, Christianized and are more tough toward colonist invasions, people gradually found that women can play a equal role in political platform.

Meet Megasoma actaeon johannae, one of the largest beetles in the world! This mysterious giga beetle was only recently described by one of our Citizen Science colleagues. Believe it or not, planet Earth still holds a great deal of secrets for us! #NatureistheGreatestShow
Megasoma actaeon johannae is a subspecies of one of the largest beetle species on Earth. The new subspecies was discovered and described using a specimen from our collections. We possess the holotype (i.e., the reference model) and numerous paratypes of this imposing creature!
It is already impressive by its dimensions alone. As its name indicates (Megasoma, literally "with a large body" in Greek), the Megasoma actaeon johannae, with its 14cm, is one of the five largest beetles in the world, along with the Goliath beetle (over 11cm) and the Hercules dynast (almost 17cm), among others. Megasoma beetles are sometimes also called elephant beetles because they are so large and heavy: they can weigh more than 150 grams!
The male beetles also impress by their horn, which can reach almost 4cm in length. This allows them to assert their dominance when fighting over females. They can even use it to lift their opponent up and knock him down! This horn explains its second name "actaeon": in mythology, Actaeon was turned into a deer as punishment for watching Diana bathe, and thus received horns. Its third name is dedicated to the wife of one of the scientists who described the beetle, Johanna.
Megasoma actaeon johannae is mostly found in South America: in northern Bolivia, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador.... But if you come across one, don't panic! Despite its size and impressive appearance, it feeds exclusively on rotten fruit and sap.
The Megasoma actaeon johannae differs from its close cousin, the Megasoma actaeon actaeon, in that it remains shiny and silky black even after death, rather than fading. It lives for an average of only 6 months in adult form (called an imago) after spending more than two years as a larva... live fast, die young!

I guess if I’m going to introduce the Bexlesy, I should at least talk about the head of the family, Margaret Bella Bexley, the woman who was obsessed with having a daughter.
Margaret was the youngest child of a wealthy unnamed Camellian business man, & was considered a ‘disappointment’ by her parents, simply because she was born a female. Despite showing to be an unusually bright & intelligent child, her parents refused to give her the same education her older brothers revived, & like most woman of high class at the time, was taught simply how to be a good wife & mother. She was eventually arranged to marry the Duke of the Hot Spring Mountains; Horatio Dennisons Bexley.
The now Duchess Margaret & Duke Horatio did not get along, as Margaret wanted to use the freedom she had away from her parents to finish the education she was denied as a young girl, but Horatio did not want his wife pursuing such ‘lofty fantasies’. Regardless of her husband said, Margaret used her new position & power to her advantage, finding teachers & tutors that agreed to teach her in secret(with enough payment of course). This wasn’t Duke & Duchess’s only issue however, as the couple also had difficultly conceiving a child, & it was thought that Margaret might of had fertility issues, but this was later proven false(and if anything, if there were fertility issues, it would have been on Duke Horatio’s end).
The couple did eventually have a child, Lysander Davenport Bexley, a son, much to Margaret’s despair, as she desperately wanted a daughter. Her son would later die at a mere few months old, & then Duke Horatio would later go on to die some time after as well. The Official report says the baby Lysander died from SIDS(Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), & Duke Horatio Bexley died from cardiac tumors that formed on his heart after the death of his son. Rumors say that Horatio died of a broken heart from losing his son, other rumors say that both the Bexley child & father were killed by their mother, Margaret, so that she could inherit the Bexley Duchy, as with no male heir & no husband, the riches & power of the estate would have no choice but to go to Margaret.
With money & power in hand, Margaret would go on to marry four more times: Giles de Miles(a foreign nobleman, later dies from the flu), Ralph Windsworth(a wealthy Camellian man, later dies in an carriage accident), Fergus Skys(a Camellian commoner & the only one of her husbands she truly loved, later dies in an avalanche), & Ashby Fairwell(another foreign nobleman she would later devoice). And she would also have fifteen more children: Horatio Dennisons Bexley Jr(whom she marries off to a far away noblewoman’s daughter make sure the heir to the Bexley estate is a female), Vivien Rothschild Bexley(Heir the Bexley Duchy & available for rps), Dixion Sheldon Bexley(married off), Blair Colleen Bexley(married off), Charles Alnwick Bexley(married off), Carolina Stuart Bexley(not married & available of rps), Charlotte Mortcombe Bexley(married off), Hunter Kaylock Bexley(not married, has the title of ‘Knight’ in Camellia & available for rps), Spencer Danvers Bexley(not married & available for rps), Mary Maria Bexley(not married, one of Sue’s ladies-in-waiting & available for rps), Catherine Sophia Bexley(not married, successful businesswoman & available for rps), Amalia Gabriela Bexley(not married & available for rps), Arther Brock Bexley(not married, heavily physically disabled[wheelchair bound], successful businessman & available for rps), Johanna Josepha Bexley(not married & available for rps) & Kassandra Annette Bexley(not married, future lady-in-waiting for Ann & available for rps).
Margaret is known for her sixteen children, as well as her five marriages. She was known for giving her daughters a wide & fair education, while she raised her sons to be good husbands & fathers, rather then to be future leaders, which was completely scandalous; though she still treated her daughters a tools for political gain. Though, she shows an obvious favoritism towards the children she had with Fergus Skys, the only one of her husbands she ever loved, giving them all a fair & just education in business & finances, regardless of their gender; & as such, they are her most successful of all her children. Margaret herself seems completely done with marriage, deeming herself far too old to get married again, planning to instead focus on her children’s marriages rather then finding a new one herself.

naming in songbirds and snakes
authors note: it is 1 am and this is unbataed, apologies for any spelling or grammar errors.
the hunger games is known for its outrageous, futuristic names; one of my favorite pieces of the series. this post does a beautiful job analyzing the names that appear in the original trilogy and categorizing them into 4 different categories. but that post is a little old and we’ve just recently got a lot more content (and names) to pick apart and analyze.
researching these names reminds me how everything suzanne includes in her novels is intentional. she doesn’t pick random names because they sound good but because they mean something. i think that’s important to remember while reading this series. it’s definitely something i will keep in mind during my next reread of the trilogy.
i didn’t cover every name in tbosas. if there’s a name you have thoughts about, reblog and let me know.
potential tbosas spoilers and long post under the cut
names will be divided into capitol and tribute (district) names
capitol
capitol names take many influences from ancient roman and greek names, but they also tell the story of the character. i will only be discussing major characters, not all will be mentioned.
coriolanus: snow’s first name largely has to do with his story. from the play coriolanus by shakespeare, meaning “conqueror of corioli,” a heroic roman solider, caius marcius, gains his name from a victory at corioli. when he leads the attack on corioli, it does not go well. but he keeps fighting and returns to rome victorious. he brings glory to rome and his mother volumnia. basically summing up his whole story. he tries to lead an ‘attack’ (him trying to win the games) but that fails. he’s reduced to a peacekeeper but he still doesn’t stop trying to be something greater. he wins in the end. he goes back to the capitol, attends university and is mentored dr. gaul.
which brings me to...
dr. volumnia gaul: dr. gaul’s name has two parts. one representing her relationship with snow. the other representing her relationship with panem. volumnia is the mother of caius marcus in shakespeare’s play, coriolanus. volumnia, in the play, uses caius as a means of securing personal prestige aka using snow’s ideas in her games. she wants her games to be better, the best. and she uses snow for that. gaul was also a roman province that embarrassed rome (read: gual’s games not being popular, things going wrong, etc.). but unlike gual, dr. gual was not stop/conquered by panem/rome.
sejanus plinth: sejanus was a close friend and ally of roman emperor tiberius who worked to improve conditions for the empire. he was also strangled to death. sejanus plinth was unable to change anything before his death by hanging. a plinth can be looked at in two different ways. @hutchhitched described it as a platform—a place someone can take a stand and deliver a message. it can also be looked at as a means for climbing. social climbing, if you will. the main ambition of the plinths.
strabo plinth: a wealthy philosopher who allied with the romans and was granted roman citizenship as a reward. seems familiar? plinth: see sejanus.
crassus snow: crassus was a roman general who played a key role in the transformation of the roman republic into the roman empire. just like his namesake, crassus snow was known for his military experience and wrote the proposal for the hunger games, successfully transforming panem into what we know today.
tributes
typically, tributes have names that reflect the industry of their district. there are a few exceptions to this; including sabine, ginnee, jessup and lucy gray baird.
district one
one of the wealthier districts in panem, district one is responsible for producing luxury items, such as jewelry, for the capitol.
male tribute: facet, literally meaning “one side of something many-sided, especially of a cut gem” suggest gemstone that is placed into jewelry but he is merely a part of the captiols larger plan.
female tribute: velvereen, derived from velveteen, meaning “a cotton fabric with a pile resembling velvet.”
district two
another wealthy district, district two is the home of the nation’s quarries and masonry workers. also recruits and trains peacekeepers and produces weapons for their use.
male tribute: marcus, derived from malleus, latin meaning “hammer.” the main tool of a masonry worker.
female tribute: sabyn, derived from sabine, italic tribe located near the tiber river. captured and raped by the romans. parallel to her current situation of being captured by the capitol.
district three
one of the poorer districrs. responsible for technology, district theee manufactures televisions, computers and other electronics. citizens of this district are very adept at engineering.
male tribute: circ, derived from circuit, something which an electric current can flow; used in electronics.
female tribute: teslee, possibly derived from tesla, an inventor and engineer.
district four
it’s major industry is fishing, trains citizens at a young age for their industry.
male tribute: mizzen, literally a part of a ships mast aka ships used for fishing.
female tribute: coral, do i have to explain this one? marine invertebrates that live in the ocean.
district five
it’s main industry is power and electricity.
male tribute: hy, possibly derived from hydroelectric, alluding to the hydroelectric dam that produces power for panem.
female tribute: sol, derived from solis, latin for sun. another producer of power.
district six
responsible for transportation.
male tribute: otto, variation of auto derived from automobile. a form of transportation
female tribute: ginnee, meaning “pure” a reminder that these are innocent children.
district seven
main industry is lumber
male tribute: treech, possibly a styilization of tree, the source of lumber
female tribute: lamina, the blade of a leaf, something trees have ;)
district eight
the textile makers
male tribute: bobbin, a spindle which thread is wound. typically found on sewing machines
female tribute: wovey, possibly derived from woven because textiles are, woven.
district nine
responsible for grain production
male tribute: panlo, derived from pan, meaning bread in spanish. bread is made from grain.
female tribute: sheaf, literally meaning “a bundle of grain stalks.”
district ten
the cattle ranchers of panem
male tribute: tanner, from the verb to tan, meaning “convert animal skin into leather”
female tribute: brandy, a brand is “an identifying mark burned on livestock”
district eleven
agriculture!
male tribute: reaper, to reap, meaning “to cut or gather a crop or harvest”
female tribute: dill, an herb. that you grow
district twelve
the coal miners
male tribute: jessup, derived from hebrew “yosef.” interestingly this is only the second name derived from hebrew within thg. second to johanna. could also be a reference to jessup, nevada; a mining area.
female tribute: lucy grey baird, she explains her own name. baird meaning poet or minstrel.

Below is a statement we received from LGB Fight Back in the States, a new group that advocates for LGB rights under vicious, homophobic attack by trans ideology activists.
LGB Fight Back, a US-based organization that represents the interests of lesbians, gay men, and bisexual people, launched on February 14, 2021 with a Valentine’s Day-themed Week of Action. Protests took place across the US and Canada, co-sponsored by LGB Fight Back and Parents of ROGD Kids, a nationwide organization of parent support groups whose children are at risk of being medicalized and harmed by transgenderism. The protests sent a message of love to non-conforming kids everywhere: We love you just the way you are!
LGB Fight Back formed in response to the exponential rise of transgenderism and the forced teaming of the LGB with the transgender movement. Society at large is being gaslighted by activists into supporting the false idea that trans is “gay-adjacent.” The transgender movement, driven by medical corporations and Big Pharma, reinforces conservative stereotypes of male and female behavior, and directly targets LGB people for medical experimentation that shortens their lifespans, turns them into lifelong medical patients, and renders them sterile.
“Trans is not Gay Plus. It is not Gay 2.0,” says LGB Fight Back co-founder and lifelong progressive Belissa Cohen. “In fact, it’s just the opposite. The T is a parasite on the gay community.”
In pushing transgenderism for profit, Big Med preys on the internalized shame and external homophobia experienced by so many members of the LGB community. The invention of the “trans child” out of whole cloth reinforces the public narrative that trans identities are innate, lifelong, and unchangeable, and works to prevent LGB people from resisting medicalization.
“Not conforming to sex stereotypes is not a medical condition,” says Cohen. “It’s perfectly normal, especially for homosexual and bisexual people. So-called ‘transition’ is being used to force people, especially LGB people, to conform. Woke homophobia is just conservative homophobia with more glitter.”
The Valentine’s Week protests, most of which took place at youth “gender clinics,” addressed the harm being done to children by trans ideologues spouting the quasi-religious claim that it’s possible to be “born in the wrong body,” and their highly successful efforts to squelch research, discussion, and debate surrounding the subject. Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the site of one of the protests, has opened a second clinic in New Jersey to capitalize on this profit-driven fad. And Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where protesting parents were welcomed by local news crews, currently refers healthy girls as young as 13 for double mastectomies that will cause them lifelong chronic pain. CHLA’s Medical Director Johanna Olson-Kennedy has also created guidelines that allow children as young as 8 to be poisoned with artificial hormones.
Pediatric “transition” causes sterility and lack of sexual function, echoing the “progressive” eugenics movement of the 20th century, in which more than 60,000 Americans, primarily women of color and “mental defectives”–including homosexuals, who were pathologized in the DSM until 1973–were sterilized.
Medical experimentation on non-conforming children concerns LGB Fight Back greatly, as these children are likely to grow up to be the next generation of LGB people. Ample research shows that, if not affirmed as “trans,” the majority of non-conforming kids grow up to be healthy lesbians, bisexuals, or gay men. The “trans-affirmative model” that turns young LGB people into poor facsimiles of the opposite sex saddled with lifelong medical issues is highly unethical. At best, it’s a new form of gay conversion therapy; at worst, it’s a new form of LGB eugenics.
“Lesbians, gay men, and bi people have been intentionally targeted for medicalization at least since Nazi doctor Carl Vaernet started using hormones as a ‘cure’ for homosexuality in the 1930s,”
says LGB Fight Back co-founder and former trans activist Carrie Hathorn. “Big Pharma and Big Med turned our community into a revenue stream, and now they’re doing the same to kids.
“I was once captured by this ideology, too,” Hathorn continues, recalling the two trans activist workshops she led in 2014. One of the workshops was designed for supporters of whistleblower Bradley Manning, a gay man who declared himself “trans” on the day of his conviction. “As a trans activist, I thought I was being supportive. But now I realize that Manning and my ‘trans’ friends were just attempting to distance themselves from their own homosexuality. Just like ‘praying the gay away,’ transing the gay away doesn’t work.”
Hathorn is hopeful that the growing tide of detransitioners, many of whom are lesbian, gay, or bisexual, will soon become impossible to ignore in the US. In the UK in 2020, a high court ruled that children under 16 cannot consent to bone-disintegrating drugs sold as puberty blockers. The ruling was prompted by Keira Bell’s lawsuit against the Tavistock gender clinic. Bell, a detransitioned lesbian, has been vocal about the internalized homophobia that drove her own “transition.”
“LGB Fight Back is standing up for LGB people because we know we’re perfect just the way we are,” Cohen says. “We don’t need to be ‘transed’ into fake straight people.”
But medicalization is not the only threat that transgenderism poses to the LGB community. Lesbian and gay history and LGB historical figures are being “transwashed”, or rewritten as “trans.” Stonewall icon Stormé DeLarverie, a butch lesbian, has been posthumously rebranded as a “trans man”. Malcolm Michaels Jr, a self-described gay man who sometimes went by the name of Marsha P. Johnson, has been rebranded as a “trans woman” and made the star of the Stonewall Uprising in the popular imagination, though historical accounts place him far from the scene. From Joan of Arc to We’wha and Billy Tipton, the Chevalier d’Eon to Moll Cutpurse and Elagabalus, historical figures who had same-sex relationships and did not conform to sex stereotypes are being subsumed into a revisionist “trans history”.
One of the most serious issues currently facing the LGB community is that of sexual coercion and shaming by heterosexuals under the guise of “inclusiveness”. Heterosexuals adopt trans identities in order to gain access to lesbian and gay spaces; they demand that lesbians have sex with straight men calling themselves “trans lesbians” and that gay men have sex with straight women calling themselves “gay trans men”. The concept of “same-gender attraction,” which transgenderists have invented to replace same-sex attraction, is a tool of sexual coercion and conversion therapy rhetoric. Lesbians and gay men who have themselves avoided medicalization face accusations of “genital fetishism”, demands that they undergo “therapy” to “rethink their genital preferences”, stealth rape by deception or omission, and an overall climate of gaslighting.
Of particular note is the insidious concept of the “cotton ceiling”, a term coined by pornographer Drew DeVeaux, a straight man calling himself a “trans lesbian”, for a coercive tactics workshop held at Planned Parenthood. The “cotton ceiling” is a reference to the cotton of a lesbian’s underwear, and the term is used by straight men who view lesbians’ homosexuality – to borrow a word from lesbophobic straight man Julia Serano – as “systemic” oppression against men.
The reframing of homosexuality as bigotry has been used to systematically colonize and destroy precious lesbian and gay bars, events, dating apps, and community centers. LGB people, who rely on single-sex spaces for socialization and community as well as romance, increasingly find themselves isolated, alone, and vulnerable to homophobic bullying and sexual coercion.
“A lot of straight people think that by paying lip service to ‘LGBTQ+,’ they’re supporting us,” Cohen says. “But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Our organizations have been ideologically captured, LGB funding appropriated by the TQ+ and our political movement co-opted. We understand that straight people want to be allies; they want to help. But the culture of No Debate surrounding transgenderism has turned the people who should be our allies against us.”
“If we don’t stop this new form of homophobia,” Cohen continues, echoing concerns expressed by former staff at the Tavistock, “soon there will be nothing left of our lesbian and gay communities. It’s time for LGB people to stand up to LGBT Inc. and say, ‘Enough! Leave lesbians alone! Hands off the gays!’”

*Formerly Catching Silver
Sylvan 'Silver' Bryant has a Dauntless heart, an Erudite mind, Amity kindness, and an Abnegation's ability to be selfless even if she has to sacrifice something of herself. She always knew it was Dauntless where she belonged but living up to her family's legacy there was another matter. Will she be able to overcome a hidden past and step out of their shadows when she finally joins her four older brothers in the faction of the brave? Will her feelings for her brother's best friend, Eric, get in her way or will he help her to finally heal the scars of her past? Eric Coulter had no regrets about leaving Erudite and his so-called family behind him. With fierce determination, he achieved his goal of becoming a leader of the faction and started his own legacy with the Bryant brothers as his allies and friends. Will the bonds of brotherhood be broken when the secret of his feelings for their precious sister is revealed or will it give him the family he never dared hoped for?
Chapter 2
Eric
My footsteps echo loudly against the rough stone walls as I make my way deeper into the bowels of the Dauntless compound. The air is chilly enough that I'm glad I didn't bother removing my heavier winter jacket and gloves after my return from a meeting in Erudite. In the hotter months of the year, this same cold air is a relief whenever I have had to make my way down here, but it's winter right now and it just makes the cold seep right down to my bones.
I don't know how people stood this cold back when Dauntless was first founded and resided in most of these subterranean places and I'm thankful we don't have to anymore.
I've been in Dauntless for a little over a year now but I'm still now quite as used to the compound as I should be by now. Every time I have to return to Erudite for a meeting it always feels like the culture shock I got when I first stepped foot in my new faction.
Before coming here I never gave actually living here much thought. I didn't contemplate mundane things like if the buildings Dauntless occupy have heating for winter or air conditioning for summer. I just took for granted that they would because Erudite did. There are a million other little things just like that which make big differences in day-to-day life in this faction. So much so that I'm still discovering things I didn't know even now.
Not that it's a bad thing, mind you. I fucking love being in Dauntless despite the huge differences between my old faction and new. I would be hard-pressed to describe what's so great about it but I guess it boils down to the fact that it's real here. There's no need for the fake smiles and the overly polished appearances among the members of this faction. Generally what you see is what you get and we prefer it that way, something that would never happen in Erudite.
There it's always about plots within plots hid behind different veneers of polite smiles and silver tongues. The hours I have to spend there are torture but are necessary for now. I'm still having to play by their rules in order to get what we need for Dauntless.
Although I hope that after today I won't have to do that for much longer.
I walk down a final hallway and see the door to the room I'm headed in front of me. The location of this room isn't where one would expect it to be. It's not located in the same section of the compound that the administrative part of the faction operates out of. It's not even in the section of the compound that houses all of the tech Dauntless uses as their command central.
This office is located in the bowels of Dauntless in a section of the compound that is hardly traveled anymore. Not since the faction spread out and claimed more buildings in the sector we are located for things like housing and shops.
I stand rigidly in front of a door, hesitating for a few seconds before I square my jaw, raise my hand and deliver three rapid raps.
I've barely lowered my arm when the command to enter is barked out. I take a deep breath and open the door to one of the smaller conference rooms that the leaders of Dauntless use for matters that need more security. It might seem paranoid to have this but when it comes to averting potential government coups and the possibility of mass genocide during the said coup, every pre-caution can and will be taken in this faction.
I nod in greeting to those who are already present as I shut the door behind me. A wave of warmth washes over me, drawing out a sigh of pleasure as I move towards my seat and begin to divest rid myself of my gloves and jacket.
The five people already seated give me the time to get settled in my chair but Max speaks up as I start to pull things from my messenger bag.
"I take it you were able to get evidence regarding their plans?"
"I believe you should take a look at what I have and make the determination for yourselves," I reply with a grimace as I start handing stuff over for the five senior leaders present to look over.
Max, Harrison, Clarence, Victoria, and Nate each take a set of documents to go over, switching out as they finish them off. Their expressions darkening with each new thing that's revealed. I watch Nate intently, knowing how close to home a few of the things I've uncovered are. I can tell the second he gets to one specific bit because his head snaps up and his eyes bore into mine. My jaw is tight as I try to contain my own rage and I only give a short terse nod.
After several more minutes of tense quiet Max tosses the last paper down with a sigh. "I would say you got evidence of something just not what I was expecting. Before we even get into this new stuff, give us a status report on their progress so far in building their own army and if it can be traced back to any of the higher-ups in Erudite leadership."
The report starts out like all these official reports have so far with a recap of the events chronicling the escalation of events. I've gotten so used to doing this I don't have the nervous jitters I had at the start. Even during those first two unofficial meetings when I was still in initiation. I waited all of two weeks before I requested to talk to all the Bryant brothers about the stunt my parents pulled and what they suggested. Two days after that I had another unofficial meeting, this time with just Nate and Max.
That was about the time that Erudite put a motion forward during a meeting, requesting to have Dauntless provide three units to be transferred and stationed to their sector on a permanent basis. Meaning they would live and work there and be technically under Erudite command. That was shot down almost immediately for two reasons. The first reason was that we, Dauntless, honestly do not have the manpower to spare. We're already strained to our limits covering the areas we do as well as keeping guards on permanent stations along our cities borders. The second reason was that Marcus Eaton has a well-known dislike of Erudite and tends to try and get anything they request dismissed and in this case, it was easily voted down.
I knew my parents weren't happy I picked Dauntless and I probably made them look bad to their friends, so I thought this might be an attempt at getting me back there. It turned out I was mostly wrong. They knew the proposal had a larger possibility of being denied than it did being accepted, but on the off chance it wasn't, they would pull strings to make sure I was the one sent to Erudite.
Their real goal, however, was the counter-proposal of being allowed to create their own security with one or two Dauntless to help properly train the chosen Erudite. Their reasoning for this was the increased amount of thefts from their sector by factionless. Since they had sufficient evidence to prove the need for this and proposed a reasonable compromise to the initial request, it was approved.
Only the three of us knew that there was another reason for forming the group and Max granted my request to use my parent's connection to investigate our theories, which has been slow going.
After passing initiation and ranking second place I was offered one of the spots for the leadership track which has required training of it's own to be completed before anything else. I busted my ass and pulled double shifts to get done what I needed to get done in order for me to start working on earning a spot as a junior leader, and hopefully, that will lead to me getting a position as a senior leader when one becomes available.
My becoming a leader is a large part of what's been holding up my progress in taking Erudite down. I've had to gain trust and prove that I can be a worthwhile ally for them and my lack of a senior leader position has halted that somewhat until recently.
That brings me to now and my current report.
"I believe that I've made progress in gaining their trust after the most recent proposal was accepted by the council that can help further their plans in creating their 'security team'. I informed them of the requirements for me to gain a senior leadership position is to have one or several successful projects that help the faction in some fashion. I advised them I had an idea for one that would help me gain that position while also helping to achieve the primary Erudite goal." I state before I pass out the relevant documentation regarding this newest change in the city.
"They were running into issues being able to find enough suitable candidates for their security forces that are already members and were turning to those who are due to choose within the next year or so and not finding their options much better, at least not by Dauntless standards." "My suggestion was that we could go ahead and start training with the members who are suitable enough to meet our immediate needs then expand the search through all factions. I was able to give them a timeline and plan that will have to be taken in stages and with the first of those plans being easily put into action I was able to gain even more of their trust."
"So they truly believe that mandating physical education courses run by Dauntless will give them the candidates they want?" Harrison asks me, alternating between looking over the paper and at me.
"I've managed to convince them it will increase the physical suitability at the very least and there is data to support that theory. Erudite already hosts several clubs through the school that are sports-oriented but attendance is smaller than it could be and is mostly just the Erudite who know about it and are interested in those types of things. There have been the stray Dauntless and Candor who have been accepted but those are rare. It was easy for me to point out that the majority of dependents who take part in those types of activities generally have transferred to Dauntless when their time came, by offering them another option they could prevent that."
In this room, it didn't need to be said that none of us had any intention of ever letting that happen. It also didn't need to be said outside of this room that the only people we planned on benefiting in that respect was ourselves, Dauntless. Everything I stated is true. The people that take those kinds of opportunities usually end up coming here. By making physical education a mandate we just might increase the number of transfers even more. I just used that truth and allowed the group in Erudite to think my real motivation is to give them, and me by default, their army.
"I see that you've added our choices for instructors that we discussed prior to presenting this to them but I also see some other things added that weren't there before. What are these possible additions to the curriculum mentioned in their debriefing?"
"Actually, I believe I can answer that since I was the one that suggested Eric might want to include them. We all know that we are using this as a method to put a stop to Erudite's plans but there's no reason we can't use it to our advantage as well and get things put into place that will help us in the long run. Physical education being required is a great first step but that won't necessarily motivate kids to go Dauntless without further incentives. I thought back to how my parents kept six children motivated to keep in shape and compared that to things we already do here and came up with a few suggestions."
"Do you have a list of these?" Max asked with definite interest and an almost knowing look in his eyes.
"We wanted to go over them before I presented Erudite with them to throw their weight behind the curriculum proposal."
"Good idea," Clarence grunted then waved his hand in a dismissive gesture. "One we can address later. For now, what progress have you made in finding out how high up the chain this thing goes."
"The highest I can get proof of links a brother-in-law for the Department of R&R being involved. None of the advisors closest to the leaders or the leaders themselves can be proven to be involved in this other than maybe having made a comment or another that might seem supportive. Despite that, I know that Jeanine Matthews is at least an instigator but proving that would be next to impossible."
I hear grunts of disgust and nod my head while Nate mutters darkly before sighing and shrugging. "As I said at the beginning of this, we shouldn't get our hopes up about tagging her. She's always in the middle of things but can never be pinned down with anything other than voicing her opinions, which isn't illegal. But that's how she gets things done, she'll drop a comment here or suggestion there and people fall over themselves to do whatever it takes to get in her good graces and make her happy."
I only nod in agreement, because this is exactly what's going on with my parents right now. They are doing everything they can to get into her inner circle. This brings me to the next bit of information I've been able to obtain.
"That's exactly what I need to report about next. During the last meeting with my parents, they made a few comments that concerned me about building data regarding the divergent threat. Apparently, Jeanine has been overheard voicing concern and not being able to make a case regarding that without something to present to the council to prove the theory correct. That's not the first time I've heard the complaint but I believed nothing would be done about it until after they had at least gotten a security team together but I was wrong."
I point to the other files I handed them earlier. "Those are the documents I was able to secure after accessing my parent's personal files. They are already running tests of Erudite subjects under different guises but they seem to be targeting the school-age children the most. Since it isn't unusual for kids to be given multiple tests each school year, replacing one of the existing ones with another one will most likely go unnoticed. They have a target list of those they are most interested in subjecting to these tests. In addition, I believe my parents are doing their own off the books tests and experiments. I didn't have the resources to crack the file, but I found one that I'm pretty sure would be the data from those."
"Alright," Max says after a pregnant pause while everyone digested this information. "We need to make some plans about how to handle this new development. We've been careful to in limiting knowledge of the operation inside and outside of the faction but this will require broadening it. We need to make sure to do this by the book and document everything as well as bringing in others we trust outside of the factions. Nate, can we count on Gideon and Selene to help on the front with Erudite?"
"Of course," He replies firmly.
"Clarence, what about Amity?"
"Johanna would be the best one to go to but it might require more to convince her to take a hard stance. If we could find out more regarding those experiments and what it involves...that might get her on board."
Max nodded gravely and looked over at Victoria next. "What about Candor?"
"Jack would be the best one to approach but he will also be the hardest to convince. He would say that an investigation of that magnitude and with the potential ramifications needs hard proof and not just circumstantial or hearsay. What we've already been able to gather so far will go a long way to getting him to at least hear us out fairly."
"Harrison?" Max calls the oldest member of the five leaders and doesn't even need to voice the question before the older man harumphs then sighs.
"Abnegation is going to be a nightmare to deal with, Max. Letting Marcus Eaton anywhere near this would be a monumental mistake and might just be the advent that brings on the civil unrest we are worried about. If he gets anywhere near this he will turn it into an all-out war against Erudite, one that we can't afford nor do we need. The problem is there is no way to do what will need to be done without bringing Abnegation into things and that will mean he will too."
His admission was something that's been on my mind and I had been kicking around an idea but I'm not sure how well it will go over with one of the people involved.
"Unless a way can be found to muzzle him before then." The words slip out before I really allow myself to think about them. All heads turn to me and Max looks at me quizzically then motions me to continue. "There was a certain rumor about Marcus Eaton that I know everyone here knows is actually true. If he could be convinced to come forward and substantiate those rumors it could work in our favor. We could just use that to make Marcus go along with things but I would suggest getting him removed from his position for abuse of power. There's no way he didn't use his position to hide his abuse of his son not to mention the questionable death of his wife. His removal might allow someone else a bit more reasonable to step in although I don't know who it would be."
"Andrew Prior," Nate responds while rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "He's not exactly pleasant, has a real holier than thou thing going on but he also is very honest and intelligent. There have been things he's stepped forward to get passed through that Marcus was very vocally opposed to, like the care centers."
"I don't care for him myself either, but when it matters he usually can be counted on to stand up for what's right and better for the city instead of cowering to Marcus." Max agrees. "That being said I won't force the boy to bring charges against his father but I can agree that someone should address the issue with him. Maybe tell him how it will help not only Dauntless but the city as well."
I see a few of them glance at me as Nate smirks at me and I shake my head vehemently. "It would be a very bad idea for me to try and talk to him about this. Four and I have put our differences aside but there's still some bitterness from our initiation. The fact that I used his situation with his father against him in our fight will still be fresh in his mind. If anyone would be able to get through to him it would be Amar. That's who he really looks up to and is closest to here."
"Alright, I'll make a note to talk to Amar about that when I talk to him about heading up the group who are going to be teachers of the physical education department of the school. Nate and Eric, I want you to get with him as well to go over the curriculum we want to see introduced there. Clarence, we need to come up with something that can get Eric access to those files. That needs to be a priority in order for us to know what we're up against and to get the other factions on board."
"Copy," Nate confirms while I nod and Clarence grunts in agreement.
"I think about covers things for now unless anyone can think of anything else?" Max asks while looking around the table. Seeing no one has anything to add he dismisses the meeting.
Nate gets up and walks around to me and pauses long enough to quietly pass a final message. "Dinner in my apartment, I'll pass the word to the others."
"I'll be there," I assure him, knowing without having to ask what the subject will be at the dinner tonight. I knew how he would react when he saw the list of people that Erudite, specifically my parents, compiled of people they want to conduct tests and experiments on, especially the top two names on it. When I saw I had been hard-pressed not to give myself away.
My only consolation in restraining myself was the knowledge that I would make every last bastard pay for even thinking about laying a finger on either of the youngest Bryant children. Seeing those names...seeing her name...and imagining any harm being done did something to me. It wounded me deeply. It also drove away any of the small vestiges of feeling for the people who brought me into this world. As far as I am concerned Steven and Patricia Coulter are just two people who happen to have the same last name as I do.
That fact won't stop me from making sure they face justice for any crimes they commit...but if they harm Sylvan and Elijah...I'll make sure I'm the one delivering that justice to them personally.

Loyal, playful, mom-friend, nerd/geek (basically female human form of Toothless the Night Fury). Friends say I am small but mighty, give some of the best hugs, and am "baby" (because I necer had a relationship before). I love about myself: being able to make people laugh w/ little effort, my voice, being a good pillow. Pet Peeve: people who don't make an effort to learn and change. Annoys me: People interrupting me while I am singing. Adding: German (can hold coversations and sing some songs), love mythology (esp. Dragons), love animals, cat person but also loves dogs (preferably big ones), will sing spontaneously, physically affectionate.
Hi Johanna!! 💕
Oooohh I ship you with Captain Rex!!! I just think you'd be so adorable together. The vibes you give off for about being loyal, being a mom-friend are honestly some of the things Rex is attracted to you for. I think Rex would have been way to shy to have made the first move, resulting in his brothers doing it for him, but you were more than happy with it because you'd been eyeing him for a very long time, but had also never worked up the courage to ask him.
Once the two of you do get into a relationship, Rex adores your hugs and your height, he loves towering over you which only makes it all the better for cuddles at night. Rex is absolutely in love with your hugs, your cuddles or anything to do with your arms around him, he just craves that all the time. He's very aware that you have a beautiful singing voice, he's heard you singing in the shower, on the way to the barracks, honestly just at random times and he loves it, he's too shy to ask you sing for him, but he will one day, just as he will to tell you he loves you.

Twenty-two women architects and designers you should know
To mark International Women's Day, we asked 22 of the world's most inspirational women architects and designers to nominate another woman who should be better known for their work.
Each of the prominent architects and designers was asked to select a woman who they think deserves greater recognition.
Several chose to shine a light on historic figures who did not receive full recognition in their lifetimes, with MVRDV co-founder Nathalie de Vries, Bangladeshi architect Marina Tabassum and Neri&Hu co-founder Rossana Hu nominating Jadwiga Grabowska-Hawrylak, Minnette de Silva and Lin Huiyin respectively.
Others took the opportunity to draw attention to a contemporary woman or women-led team that should be better known, with Camille Walala, Tatiana Bilbao, Dorte Mandrup and Eva Franch i Gilabert nominating Unscene Architecture, Taller Comunal, Marie-José Van Hee and V. Mitch McEwen respectively.
Read on for the 22 architects and designers that deserve greater recognition:
Marie-José Van He Nominated by Dorte Mandrup, Dorte Mandrup Arkitekter
"Marie-José Van Hee is a remarkably talented architect. Working primarily in her native country, Belgium, she is forging a significant mark on contemporary architecture with her attention to space, light and natural materials.
"Through her understated, authentic and poetic work, she continuously influences and inspires architects and designers alike. A timeless simplicity and weightlessness permeate throughout her designs, creating a stillness that seems almost tangible – blurring the line between art and architecture."
Iwona Buczkowska Nominated by Farshid Moussavi, Farshid Moussavi Architecture
"Polish-born French architect Iwona Buczkowska's brilliant career is distinguished by an architectural approach opposed to any form of standardisation, thus placing the diversity of users and their agency at the core of her work. Her tireless commitment has led to the creation of works of incredible richness and inventiveness, whether for housing projects or public facilities.
"At a time when we need to question our built environment, and in particular, the housing in which we live, her work on diversification, user empowerment and inclusion seems particularly worthy of attention. As her work is under-studied, and because some of her built projects are currently under threat of demolition, I feel it is particularly important to bring to light what her work has to teach us."
Charlotte Perriand Nominated by Es Devlin, Es Devlin Studio
"Last weekend I went to the South Downs to try to recreate this uplifting portrait of Charlotte Perriand (above) about which her daughter said: 'That photograph of a strong woman, triumphantly embracing nature, is the perfect image of my mother. She announces the contemporary woman, emancipated and free.
"Most of us have sat on the extraordinary and now iconic furniture she made in collaboration with Le Corbusier. Most of us are unaware of her fundamental role in its design. She was a genius in the art of collaboration, especially with powerful male artists. Her practice spanned an astounding range of genres, her work drew deeply on the forms she observed in nature throughout her rich life."
Kenyatta Mclean Nominated by Harriet Harriss, dean of the Pratt Institute School of Architecture
"I'd like to nominate Kenyatta Mclean, co-founder and co-managing director of Blackspace: the black, interdisciplinary, spatial collective comprised of architects, artists, designers and planners who have asserted both the necessity and the agency of 'Black Urbanism'.
"From my perspective, her ability to co-create spatial narratives that are centred in and driven by racial justice is essential and urgent work applicable both to the US where the practice is situated, and cities worldwide, where structural racism and other forms of discrimination are embedded in the materiality and form of the architectures that surround us.
"Moreover, spatial collectives – from Matrix to Assemble – offer a much-needed antidote to the vagaries of starchitecture and the hierarchies typically found in traditional design practices. Kenyatta Mclean's visionary work reminds us all of the need to use this period of Covid-imposed introspection to re-examine how much more inclusive, equitable and impactful our industry needs to become.
"Blackspace also offers a road map and a benchmark for graduates and young practitioners who are committed to leading the changes we need to make."
Unscene Architecture Nominated by Camille Walala, Studio Walala
"I would like to nominate Unscene Architecture. A pair of fantastic women that I met the year before the pandemic started. The architecture design duo – founders Manijeh Verghese and Madeleine Kessler – were the co-creators of the British Pavilion for the postponed 2020 Venice Architecture Biennale. Definitely, ones to watch."
Anupama Kundhoo Nominated by Seetal Solanki
"A rare kind within the world of architecture. Anupama Kundhoo brings people a voice, materials a voice and building a voice that is beyond her own – an egoless practice. Traits that shouldn't be so rare actually, but she's paving the way for so many and hopefully many more to come."
Ndebele women Nominated by Sumayya Vally, Counterspace
"In this tribe, we evoke women near and far – friends, ancestors and mythical figures – women who write, organise, imagine and build worlds into being. I chose to draw attention to the unrecognised architect genius of the Ndebele women – women who craft ritual objects and build and adorn their own homes. The calling of their names invokes the calling of millions of errant, unrecognised, other architects the world over – past, present and future.
"They are Maria Ntobela Mahlangu, Dinah Mahlangu, Johanna Mkwebani, Martina Maghlangu, Anna Msiza, Sara Mthimunye, Sara and Lisbeth, Pikinini and Sara Skosana, Anna Mahlangu, Letty Ngoma, Sarah Mguni, Martha Mtsweni Ndala, Rossinah and Esther Mahlangu."
Jadwiga Grabowska-Hawrylak Nominated by Nathalie de Vries, MVRDV
"When working on our Concordia Design project in Wroclaw, Poland, I met Jadwiga Grabowska-Hawrylak, the grande dame of modern Polish architecture. Born in 1920, she brought architecture to the next level in the second half of the 20th century. In 1974, she was the first woman to receive the prestigious Honorary Award from the Association of Polish Architects.
"In a time when female Polish architects were mostly known as 'the wife of…' Jadwiga had a highly successful career, she had a big part in rebuilding postwar Wroclaw, and was also known for her schools and housing. I am really impressed by her work and her amazing personality. When I met her, she was very energetic and still very much involved in architecture. With her passing in 2018, Poland lost a great architect."
Minnette de Silva Nominated by Marina Tabassum
"The first name that comes to mind is Minnette de Silva (pictured above with Pablo Picasso), an architect ahead of her time. Less celebrated than her contemporary male counterparts. You may have read this article below, but I'm sharing the link again. This tells her story better than I can write."
Marina Willer Nominated by Margaret Calvert
"I would propose Marina Willer, although she may not fit as she's already well known. Apart from being an exceptional graphic designer and filmmaker, Marina was the first woman to be appointed a Pentagram partner. Brazilian by birth, it was at the Royal College of Art, where I was teaching at the time, that I first became aware of her amazing drive, commitment and talent as a student."
Duygu and Begum Ozturk Nominated by Nelly Ben Hayoun, Nelly Ben Hayoun Studios
"I nominate Duygu and Begum Ozturk, the two sisters behind the fashion brand Harem London. Born in Istanbul, they started their all-organic fashion brand recently in Dalston, London; merging traditional techniques from Istanbul and London, bringing together their heritage and future.
"I love that they started a business together as sisters and that they are persevering in developing their beautiful collection despite the pandemic and Brexit and all the complexity this created for them. They need to be applauded for their great work."
Lin Huiyin Nominated by Rossana Hu, Neri&Hu
"Lin Huiyin was the first female architect in modern China. Lin and her partner Liang Sicheng were the pioneers in architectural heritage restoration and documentation in China during the 1930s.
"Although it was the two of them who brought China's ancient architectural treasures to light, Lin's recognition in documenting and restoring China's historic buildings has often been overshadowed by her partner, who is recognised as the 'father of modern Chinese architecture'. In addition to her architectural practice, Lin is also widely acclaimed for her literary creation."
Mary Corse Nominated by Azusa Murakami, Studio Swine
"I would like to pick Mary Corse. She has been gaining much-deserved recognition in recent years with a solo show at the Whitney but has been arguably one of the most innovative artists to come out of the light and space movement.
"We love her material research, her ability to take industrial elements like the glass microbeads used on motorway reflective road markings and using it to make really delicate and sublime optical paintings is really inspiring."
Yemi Awosile Nominated by Morag Myerscough
"I have loved Yemi Awosile's work for many years. She is a wonderful person and I have worked with her in the past on the Bernie Grant Centre where she made some textiles for the centre."
Franziska Porges Hosken Nominated by Jane Hall, Assemble
"Austrian-born, and America-based, designer Franziska Porges Hosken was pioneering in multiple respects. In 1944 she became one of the first women to receive her master's of architecture degree from Harvard's Graduate School of Design and in 1947, together with her husband James Hosken, she founded their successful eponymous furniture business Hosken.
"Despite giving up her design practice to take care of her first child in the late 1950s, Hosken continued to create as a photographer and journalist, publishing numerous books on urbanism including The Language of Cities.
"She was also an activist for women's rights, founding the Women's International Network and publishing reports on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), a term she is credited with coining, which affected the agenda of major health organisations including the WHO. Continuing to distribute a feminist newsletter well into her eighties, Hosken's legacy demonstrates an extraordinary commitment, undertaken over the course of a lifetime, to connect design with social activism."
Winka Dubbeldam Nominated by Sonali Rastogi, Morphogenesis
"Winka Dubbeldam is an architect whose contribution I would like to acknowledge. She is the founder of the WBE firm Archi-Tectonics. She had visited our studio about 15 years back whilst working on the redevelopment of the New Delhi railway station. I also enjoyed attending one of her juries in UPenn about ten years ago, and ever since, I have been following her.
"Being in academia myself, what resonates with me is her significant influence on the emerging generation through her involvement in architectural education and design juries worldwide. Her designs are evocative and transformative, and she creates architecture that matters.
"I read somewhere that she maintains a fluid balance between energy and calm, precision and informality, experiment and comfort in her designs, studio, and life, a mantra I have been following all my life."
Eva Albarran Nominated by Sofia Von Ellrichshausen, Pezo von Ellrichshausen
"I would like to propose Eva Albarran: a Spanish entrepreneur, living both in Paris and Madrid, who operates in the expanded, and diffuse, field of contemporary art and architecture.
"She is a solid character who has managed to solve complex productions for significant artists (such as Christian Boltaski, Felice Varini or Francis Alys). Together with her husband, they direct a refined gallery and the Solo houses program, a project that might well be read as a radical revision of the current human condition in relation to nature."
Dana Al Amiri Nominated by Pallavi Dean, Roar
"Dana Al Amiri, the co-founder of Watab Studio, is a rising star in the male-dominated Saudi construction industry. I love her minimal pared design philosophy – practicing in a region that is infamous for opulent and OTT statements. She truly represents the next generation of regional architects that are defining Saudi's design identity."
Taller Comunal Nominated by Tatiana Bilbao
"I would like to make Taller Comunal, which is led by Mariana Ordóñez Grajales and Jesica Amescua Carrera, my recommendation. Because for them, architecture is not a profession, it is a service to facilitate architecture to be produced by the people who inhabit it. That should be the future of our profession."
Anne Tyng Nominated by Huang Wenjing, Open Architecture
"Anne Tyng immediately came to mind as a female architect that deserves much more recognition. Born in China in 1920 to missionary parents; a classmate of Eileen Pei and IM Pei — these two little details seem to have brought her closer to me, my being Chinese and had worked in the office that IM founded.
"Tyng was one of the first women to study architecture at Harvard Graduate School of Design; the only woman to take the architectural license test in 1949.
"It is unfortunate and unfair that people often seem to be more interested in her anecdotal affair with the iconic master Louis Kahn than her great influence on his early works — the rigour of geometry and order was very much Anne Tyng's interest and contribution. She went on to be an independent architect, theorist and educator. A true pioneering woman in the field."
V. Mitch McEwen Nominated by Eva Franch i Gilabert
"Mitch is an architect, activist, dancer, rapper, entrepreneur, someone who has taken the lead on many occasions to make space for new ideas.
"We crossed paths several times throughout the last ten years; In 2011, during the Occupy Wall Street Movement, I organised an exhibition and a series of events at Storefront for Art and Architecture hosted by brilliant people; Mitch's workshop "How to Occupy a House in America" was one of them.
"In 2014, Mitch was one of the architects writing letters to the Mayor in the first edition in New York of the global project "Letters to the Mayor" asking Mayor Bill de Blasio: "How can New York City Housing Authority really become the Pride of Our City?" and provided some answers and ideas that still stand.
"Mitch is currently an assistant professor at Princeton University – where I am currently teaching a seminar. Her work is now on display at MoMA in New York as part of Reconstructions: Architecture and Blackness in America."
Mónica Bertolino Nominated by Sandra Barclay, Barclay & Crousse
"Mónica Bertolino is an architect from Córdoba, Argentina, where she lives and works as part of the Studio Bertolino-Barrado founded in 1981.
"Together with Carlos Barrado they have an excellent production of projects in different scales. In their work you understand immediately the search for good qualities in habitability, their sensibility when they intervene in the landscape, and their concern for research about materiality linked to the local traditions of construction.
"I admire and think she deserves recognition especially in her academic role where she transmits her passion and enthusiasm for architecture in an unconditional way. She is devoted to this mission!
"She participates in workshops and as invited professor in different universities in the world as well as a regular professor in the National University of Cordoba and in the Catholic University of Cordoba."

Antonio Scotti (25 January 1866 – 26 February 1936) was an Italian baritone. He was a principal artist of the New York Metropolitan Opera for more than 33 seasons, but also sang with great success at London's Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and Milan's La Scala.  He received his early vocal training from Esther Trifari-Paganini and Vincenzo Lombardi. According to most sources, he made his debut at Malta's Theatre Royal in 1889, performing the role of Amonasro in Giuseppe Verdi's Aida. Engagements at various Italian operatic venues ensued and he later gained valuable stage experience singing in Spain, Portugal, Russia and South America (Buenos Aires from 1891 to 1894 and again 1897. Río de Janeiro 1893 and Chile 1898. Also sung in Montevideo) In 1898, he debuted at Italy's most renowned opera house, La Scala, Milan, as Hans Sachs in Die Meistersinger. This now seems a surprising choice of role for Scotti because his subsequent career did not encompass the operas of Richard Wagner. Scotti's American debut took place in the autumn of 1899, when he sang in Chicago. On 27 December 1899 he made his first appearance in New York City at the Metropolitan Opera, undertaking the title role in Mozart's Don Giovanni. He would become an audience favorite at the Met, earning acclaim for his graceful singing of Donizetti's bel canto music as well as for the touch of elegance that he brought to his more forceful Verdi and verismo interpretations. Scotti appeared at Covent Garden in London for the first time in 1899, singing Don Giovanni. He would return to London on many occasions prior to World War I. At the Met in 1901, Scotti became the first artist to sing the role of Scarpia in Giacomo Puccini's Tosca in America. He appeared, too, in the American premieres of Francesco Cilea's Adriana Lecouvreur, Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari's Le donne curiose, Umberto Giordano's Fedora, Franco Leoni's L'Oracolo and Isidore de Lara's Messaline. Scotti also sang a variety of mainstream baritone parts during his time at the Met, including Rigoletto, Malatesta, Belcore, Iago, Falstaff, Marcello, and Sharpless in addition to Don Giovanni and Scarpia. He often performed opposite his close friend Enrico Caruso and appeared with the illustrious tenor when he made his Met debut as the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto in 1903. Scotti partnered 15 different Toscas over the course of his long career at the house. In 1912, Scotti's arrival in the United States with Pasquale Amato and William Hinshaw for his next Met season received extensive newspaper coverage. He performed at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, on a regular basis until 1910, with additional appearances in the 1913–1914 season. During this period, he became not only London's first Scarpia but also its first Sharpless in Puccini's Madama Butterfly (in 1900 and 1905 respectively), which he also introduced to the Met in 1907. In 1917, he was elected an honorary member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the American fraternity for male musicians, at the New England Conservatory of Music. Scotti performed in Paris at the Opéra Comique singing Tosca (in 1904 with Emma Eames and Emilio De Marchi, conductor Cleofonte Campanini, and in 1910, with Farrar and Beyle, the young and later-prominent conductor Gino Marinuzzi). In 1910 at Theatre du Châtelet with the Metropolitan ensemble, Scotti sung Falstaff conducted by Arturo Toscanini and at the Opera, in a gala performance, the third act of La bohème with Caruso and Farrar. In 1908, he sang at Salzburg in Don Giovanni, with Lilli Lehmann (Donna Ana), Johanna Gadski (Donna Elvira), Geraldine Farrar (Zerlina), with Karl Muck conducting. He formed his own troupe of singers in 1919, calling it, naturally enough, the Scotti Opera Company. He managed it for several seasons while touring the United States. Scotti celebrated his 25th anniversary with the Met on 1 January 1924 in a gala performance of Tosca. By the 1930s, Scotti's voice had declined considerably but he retained his place on the Met's roster of singers due to his outstanding histrionic ability. His final Met appearance occurred on 20 January 1933, when he sang Chim-Fen in L'Oracolo; he had created the role in 1905. Scotti returned to Italy to spend his retirement. He died in Naples in 1936, aged 70

Warning: Defending Jacob Spoilers!
So I had posted last night about how I ordered the book Defending Jacob, and how I was going to point out some similarities and differences between the book and movie. So here goes nothing.
I will put all the spoilers underneath a keep reading tag.
I read through the book to (roughly) where the first three episodes lined up in the book, and there are some big things right off the bat. I have noticed that the TV adaptation has done a remarkable job with getting both lines, and scenes correct, but there are things that have been changed, for better and worse.
Alright, first things first...
The Characters:
Andy Barber, or the main protagonist, is considerably older in the book (51) than Chris Evans’s adaptation of Andy (who we can infer is somewhere in his late 30′s early 40′s). Laurie is also 51 in the book, and therefore would be the same age as the television Andy. It is also implied that Andy and Laurie (show) had Jacob somewhere in the time they were both still in college. Meanwhile, the novel has said that they waited until they were both 36 to have Jacob.
Jacob (Jaeden Martell’s adaptation) is surly, more closed off. He is quiet, and more like the teenagers you would see today, than the teenagers that are described in the book. Keep in mind that the books events take place in 2007, not 2020. But in the book, he is easier to laugh, and tell a quick joke throughout the situations.
Some of the smaller characters, but still important nonetheless, include Detective Duffy, and Jacob’s lawyer. And this is something I’m enjoying that they changed in the TV show... Both the detective and lawyer are men in the novel, but have been switched to women in the show. In the book, lawyer Johnathan Klein, has been switched to Johanna Klein (Cherry Jones). They both have the same relationship with Andy Barber though.
Detective Pam Duffy (Betty Gabriel), was changed from Paul Duffy. In the novel though, Paul Duffy and Andy Barber are close friends. Something not seen, and even denied, in the show. Andy was even named the godfather of one of Duffy’s children in the book.
Finally, one of the last characters that I noticed a difference for was Neal Loguidice, the lawyer that takes the case from Andy. In the show, he is played by Pablo Schreiber, who looks to be considerably taller than Chris Evans. But, in the novel he is described as short and with a pot belly.
Now I appreciate the casting choices, and I am proud that they changed some roles to fit women (from a generally male dominated book), so I will leave it to your opinions as to if you think anything should have been changed.
The book also follows closer to Andy Barber, sort of locking out any other views form other characters that seem important in the show. For example, the young girl, Sarah, is mentioned and interviewed in the book, but is not as widely seen as the show’s Sarah.
Alright, up next is the major plot differences. Last chance if you don’t want anything too spoiled...
Episode One:
There are many different scenes where it has been described much differently than what it was depicted in the show. I will say this was due to the chronological difference and poetic license though. For instance, Andy’s office building has been described as far more drab and grungy than the lavish like space Chris Evans gets to work in. Jacob’s room is described as much messier, and his school is also depicted with much higher security than what they show in the show.  They also drive different vehicles (Audi v. Minivan).
The show also starts off with additional scenes, then cuts others. For instance, they added that Andy was called to the scene, but they didn’t add that they had done the sweep search of the park twice before they found a knife on the third run through.
Again, I’m leaving that to the cinematic experts though.
Another thing, is the book goes to describe the wounds found on the victim’s chest, something the show neglects to do. The knife is said to have been sharp (Obviously), and jagged on one edge, closer to the knife they found with Jacob.
Lastly, the book Andy waited until both Laurie and Jacob had left for the day to try to find the knife that Jacob had gotten. Which was kind of smarter, as show Andy ran the risk of getting caught.
Episode Two:
The violence in Andy’s family is brought up much earlier in the book, but kept from Laurie until the night that Jacob was arrested. It goes into more depth about his lineage, the longer line of violent Barber’s. (I won’t elaborate on this in case it is brought up in later episodes).
Another thing that is different, is that in the book, Any was able to make it inside before the warrant arrived to search for anything incriminating or to arrest Jacob. He was able to search and determine that nothing in his son’s room was particularly incriminating.
Episode Three:
Laurie, first off, is much angrier towards Andy than Michelle Dockery’s Laurie is. The novel’s Andy had described her as on the verge of divorce, and he was sure that when the trial was all over, they would. Other than that, the trial scenes are pretty much the same, just the book’s is more elaborated.
When they all arrived home from the trial, they found the graffiti then, not a while later like was implied in the show. It was also longer, and on the front of their house. Laurie is the one to clean it, stating that her husband would clean it eventually, not now.
Andy is also the one to be the one that jogs in the mornings in the novel. On one, he describes where he went to Patz’s (The suspect that Andy originally wanted to go after) house, just to watch for a little while.
Those were some of the big differences that I noticed. I’m sure there are more that I missed, so mention them if you know any. But please, It was your choice to read this, and if you didn’t want any spoilers, don’t come after me. I gave you multiple warnings.
On a happier note, the first 150 pages or so of this book have been amazing, and I suggest it to anyone who is looking for a book to read over this rough time. “Defending Jacob” By William Landay.

Poly!King Day 1: Maybe God is a Woman
This goes to the lovely @stayinqpower! I hope you like it love!
☾☀︎
In hindsight, they should have realised the Brianna was different.
Back when they were kids, and they still called her by her birth name, every single quirk and oddity should have tipped them off. But instead, they just passed it off as Brianna being her odd self. The way that her hair would get caught in the light giving her a bizarre halo, or how animals tended to crowd around her like moths to the light. They should have noticed when Brianna seemed to know things that no five-year-old should or seemed to have answers to questions that not even their parents had.
But little Brian, as they had called her back then, was nothing but their strange friend. An intelligent and cheery kid who would always walk around with a smile adorning his face and leaves sticking out of his hair. It should have been easy to fall in love with him back then, but Regina later realises that maybe she hadn't wanted them to fall in love until she managed to get to her pure form.
Other lesser beings would have had trouble with the transition. But Brianna, their beautiful girlfriend with endless wisdom and power just willed it so once she realised that the form of a boy, of a male, didn't quite fit her. She didn't like that form, didn't like the fact that she had to keep her hair short, and that she would never be able to bear a child if she wanted to do so. So one day she was a boy named Brian, with angular features and form-fitting pants, and the next she was Brianna, their Brianna.
That should have been the first clue that she was not quite human. But at the time it just seemed so simple to Johanna. She had been seven, and the world is so much simpler when you are seven, and according to Brianna she just realised that she didn't want to be a boy anymore, not even if that's how her Mum had sent her to earth. Back then they had all agreed that boys were yucky and that was that.
Nobody dared to question that even if it was possible to change herself like that on earth, it shouldn't have been that simple. It wasn't like she could have been able to do it overnight, not in the sixties, not as a child. But nobody else seemed to find that weird, in fact, they seemed to be the only ones who remembered that Brianna had looked like a boy. To everyone else, it was just as if she had always been Brianna Hope May, not Brian Harold May.
Through the years, and as the four of them fell in love with each other, Brianna just grew weirder. She refused to let them meet her parents or let them go to her house. She would refer to God as her or as them, much to Regina and Johanna's parents' annoyance, and would often talk about things she shouldn't talk about as if they were unconsequential. Hence why, as soon as Freddie came out as a dyke to her parents, they prohibited ever talking to Brianna again, at least until she came to her senses.
Regardless, the younger woman always seemed to find a way to speak to Freddie, even if it meant sneaking into her dreams. Dreams in which the singer kicked, screamed and made havoc of whatever she could find and Brianna would just sit there in complete calm. "You told me God wouldn't hate me!"
Brianna tilted her head to the side, "They won't. Why would They hate you for loving someone?"
"Because I love girls, not boys. I don't understand why you can't see the problem, Bri! I'm in love with three girls, and that's not what God wants!"
At that Brianna scowls, and she has never seen her friend look as mad as she looks in that moment, "Oh please, girls are made to be loved, or else They wouldn't have created them."
And that is that. She never speaks about that again, not even when Freddie's parents let her out of the house, with no qualms about letting her see Brianna again.
In the same peculiar manner as everything with Brianna happens, they only meet her dad the day he dies. Brianna looks— well, her face is devoid of any emotion, and while all the people around her cry and mourn, she just sits on the chair, hands folded neatly into her lap and eyes staring ahead. After the ceremony ends, their guitarist is still left to sit staring forward, and nobody dares to move her, nobody has the heart.
Regina kneeled in front of her, lacing their fingers together and pressing a kiss to her head, "We'll be there for you."
"I know that," Brianna licks her lips, "Just as I know he is with my mother now. I just wish he would have held on for a little bit longer. I didn't want him to leave me alone just yet."
Her three lover's hearts had broken then; their guitarist sounded so small, so lost. They wanted to tell her that everything was going to be alright, that she wouldn't have to worry about being alone because she had them; but none of them even knew how to say this without hurting her more than she already was. So they simply held her to their chests as she stared at the casket almost as if she were lifeless.
What none of them notice, and none of them ever would, was Brianna's mother. In all her glory, with her silk robes, unruly hair, kind eyes, and the warmest smile possible. She grabbed her lover's hand and helped him stand up, then took him to Heaven with her. Brianna watched, eyes meeting with her mother for a fleeting second, before the woman smiled, "This is your Heaven now, I'll make sure of that."
Brianna bounces back from her grief after a few weeks, melancholy still follows her around, but she doesn't seem like a living dead any longer. However, she does pray more often now, mainly because when she does, she gets to hear her parents. She had always loved them fervently, in every single reincarnation and through the aeons. Being left alone on earth at nineteen doesn't change that.
What does change is the fact that for the first time in the thousands of years she has been alive, Brianna falls in love. It's slow but steady, and after three years of being alone on earth, she is madly in love with the three other women. Sure, she had liked people before, she had fancied Kings and been the mistress of many Queens and had slept around enough to ensure that there was enough lineage from the gods to last a forever. But she had never fallen in love.
Not like she loved the way that Freddie would wake her up peppering her face with kisses. Or how Johanna would kiss her nose and scold her for walking around the flat in skimpy pyjamas. Or how Regina would snuggle up to her side and ask for stories of the old gods, listening intently and then falling asleep on her chest. She had never fallen in love like this, and she was scared.
Her mother only snorted when she confessed her deepest fears. The dread that came with thinking that after this life she would never see her loves again. The anxiety-inducing thought that she might have to live without their kisses, without their laughs, the hugs, the jokes, the sex, the— everything.
"Sometimes you are ridiculous," her mother scolds her, "It makes me remember why I haven't given you the keys to Heaven yet. You won't lose them, child. After all, Gods can only fall in love once."
That night when she gets in bed, all of her lovers curl around her, claiming that Brianna works as a personal heater in times of great cold. The older girl just smiles, and nuzzles into Johanna's hair, taking in her sweet apple and cinnamon smell, "I just talked to my mother."
It had taken a long time for them to understand and come to terms with Brianna's parentage. They had had to meet God herself to fully believe their lover, and even sometimes they forgot that when they prayed, she was always there to answer. Only to them, of course, she was after all a capricious woman.
Freddie pressed her lips to Brianna's neck, "Yeah, what'd she say?"
"Gods only fall in love once, which means that you will have my heart forever, and I'll be able to have yours if we wish to stay together until the ends of time." She whispers it into the silence of the bedroom like she might be scared that they will not accept her offer if she says it any louder.
"And after that?" Freddie runs a finger down Brianna's cheek, "What happens after the end of time?"
Brianna smiles, "We restart, just that you'll be mine from the beginning."
Regina, from where she is laying on top of Brianna's chest, nuzzles into her collarbone, "I can do that. I can be with the three of you until the ends of time."
Brianna releases a breath she didn't know she was holding and that night makes sure that they are snuggled together as tightly as she can manage.
Until the end of time doesn't seem enough.
