Maybe it's just because of where I live, but the whole "Satine didn't like that her people were a bunch of warmongering imperialist assholes and told them to knock it off and implemented gun control and made the Jedi Torture Boxes illegal so that her people could rebuild and move on from their violent history of civil wars that reduced their planet into a nearly uninhabitable wasteland in favor of focusing on more productive things like art and education and this is literally cultural genocide and she's erasing history and she should've been a villain blah blah blah" take has always been so weird to me. Like I have absolutely seen people say things like that in real life all the time and about 90% of them have confederate flags on the back of their pickup trucks so. Yeah.
#''but the new mandos are mostly white in tcw!'' despite what many claim mandos were always mostly white even before tcw#i know people wanna act like they're The Single Most Diverse Culture In The Entire Galaxy but that was always largely an informed attribute#i mean star wars in general wasn't as diverse before the disney era that's why rebels and tcw season 7 have more non-white mandalorians#also the whole idea that she only took over cause of republic backing and made her people ''assimilate'' to republic culture#which first of all the republic doesn't have one culture it's made up thousands of planets with different cultures#contrary to popular belief the republic isn't really Space America it's more Space United Nations#and second of all her ENTIRE INTRODUCTORY ARC is about her being against republic overreach#and not wanting them to intervene in internal mandalorian affairs#but yeah clearly she's a puppet for the republic that's definitely consistent with what we actually see onscreen#and don't bother with the ''the republic glassed mandalore'' thing#that's legends and is never mentioned anywhere in tcw at all#as far as lucas and disney canon are concerned it's a wasteland because of centuries of civil wars#which sabine confirms in rebels#the whole erasing culture thing doesn't hold much weight either#when you consider satine is one of only two characters to actually speak mando'a onscreen (the other being sabine)#which. again. she did In Her Introductory Episode#and you can see mando'a writing all around new mandalore#in sharp contrast to the fanon idea that she suppressed the language or whatever#and like there's TONS of uniquely mandalorian artwork and architecture and stuff like that#those things are culture too she just focuses on the parts of the culture that aren't about killing people you don't like#also when pre vizsla starts his whole smear campaign against her and gains the favor of the people#she stands down because the people are on his side now#which shows she believes in the will of the people and thus it's safe to assume that the majority supported her favor when she took over#anyway i'm gonna go watch avatar and day zuko committed cultural genocide#cause imperialism is fire nation culture and he told them to knock it off#shut up tristan

Also you can explain it to me a hundred times and I will STILL never get the war between Azula stans and Zuko stans, ESPECIALLY when it comes to stuff like 'which one's actually more powerful' and 'who's a better bender'. Wasn't the whole point of their relationship and the issues therein that Ozai was manipulating both of them and pitting them against each other, and that that was inherently bad and abusive? That Zuko feeling the need to prove himself was eating him up from the inside as he tried to reach an intentionally unattainable goal set for him by Ozai, and Azula's perfectionism and need for control set her up to break down the moment that control slipped because it meant she was a failure like her brother?
Like. they were both bad to each other, so neither side has a leg to stand on in that regard. Yes, Azula smiled when Zuko was burned. Yes, Zuko saw himself fighting Azula as 'putting her in her place.' Yes, Azula tried to kill Zuko with her lightning. Yes, Zuko left her in the Fire Nation when he defected. Yes, she tried to kill him again at the Western Air Temple, and yes, he fought back and was bitter when she survived falling into the canyon (though it's a stretch to say he didn't care. He sounds worried for her when he says 'she's not going to make it'.)
And yeah, Azula did things for Zuko that he didn't do for her, likely out of genuine kindness, but in her introductory episode it appears she's doing the same thing, and it's a literal trap to have Zuko captured and imprisoned. So neither of them are a model sibling, neither is inherently better or worse than the other, because that's not how people work, you can't count points for something someone does. They're both fucked up and entitled and selfish and mean, because Ozai (and to some extent Ursa) and the literal monarchy they live in pitted them against each other and made them that way, and because they're teenagers made to fight in a war, and because they are (fictional) people and people have flaws, that's how it *works.*

Just got an error message two times when trying to answer someone, so here you go, nonnie.
Tumblr media
[Text version] Anonymous asked: This fandom and its “if you don’t like it don’t watch it propaganda” like they don’t consider that someone like me still bitch about this show cause I used to love it so much and it hurts me to see it ruined in this way and I still have hope that it can be saved. And its “ you don’t like this character/ writer cause she’s a female”, it’s not like that for example I adore Andrew, but I still have nightmares about whatever it was 6x08 "Don't like, don't watch" is good advice when you're addressing "fans" who can find NOTHING to be happy about, but tbh...it goes back to what myself and a few others have said re: fandom treating the show like a fanfic. "Don't like, don't read?" Perfectly reasonable. Fanfics cater to specific characters/pairings/tropes and we are able to filter search results to leave out things we aren't interested in. When it comes to watching tv, however...especially with a show like 9-1-1 or other crime/procedural dramas...there is bound to be at least ONE thing viewers latch onto and will make time (while switching channels during the original broadcast or fast-forwarding through the replay on a streaming service).
I find the bitchiness a little...two-faced, for lack of a better term, at least within the Buddie fandom. How are you (gen) gonna tell people everything is headed in a clear direction (and it's not just framed as speculation; when others question the thought process they're told they're just too stupid to understand the narrative - an actual thing that has been said, lol), but then get angry when those same folks (who you wanted to seem smarter than) point out inconsistencies or that things feel far from optimistic?
Is it because you don't want to be reminded of how wrong you were mere months ago? Or you don't want to think about the faith you may have (incorrectly) placed in this show to not be like the ones before it?
The "you don't like this character because she's female" argument is silly when the issue isn't that the woman in question is terrible, but that the show "cleaned her up" so she could portray a love interest (as if the audience was just supposed to forget what they'd seen and heard):
Shannon -> Eddie stuck up for her because he felt like it was his fault that she left (which she made him believe, but then when Eddie *is* present in Christopher's life and co-parenting with her...she's like "Still haven't figured out how to do this whole motherhood thing, sorry!" Having Eddie back helped, but he wasn't the problem. Shannon never made peace with being a mother relatively young (losing her freedom), nor did she make peace with the "added stress" that comes with raising a child that is physically disabled.
Ana -> Apparently never said an ableist thing in her life despite how her introductory episode made it VERY clear that her approach to the skateboarding incident was the wrong one. (And because I always think it's worth noting - Andrew Meyers spelled out that the episode would touch on a disability issue when he specifically put the term ABLE-BODIED in the opening scene: "Attention, citizens of the Internet. We are calling upon every able-bodied viewer for another adrenalized tour of duty for Shay's Army.")
Taylor -> Nobody acknowledges how she wanted to mess with Bobby for the sake of her career in season two. Buck is all-too-pleased to see her again. Zero hesitation. (He's the one person who knew the only reason that footage never made the air is because of her bosses.) Then there was her calling Buck out for not being a good friend...despite never having been a friend to him, either...and the tears for her tv audience...and telling other people's stories because she doesn't want to tell her own...meaning she's allowed to keep her private life private, but anyone else is fair game...one big "ick" all around.
Lucy doesn't apply to the above (unless you count editing her scenes to see how the audience would accept her in the aftermath of 5x11/5x13, I guess), but people are forgetting that many were actually ROOTING for her to be the new Lena (Buck's Version). Yes! Give Buck a female coworker who isn't a lesbian or much older than him and LET THEM BE FRIENDS! Especially when he already had a girlfriend!
If people want to make excuses for the cheating arc (that amounted to nothing in the end - so much for "narrative purpose") or want to swoon over pretty people making out, have at it. But the other side is entitled to reject a version of canon they never asked for. Fans complaining on their OWN BLOGS is not in the same stratosphere as anybody who had no shame in leaving negative insta comments directed at the actress involved.
Finally, as for not liking a writer 'cause she's a woman...Who hates Lyndsey? Or Taylor Wong? And I'm pretty sure we all thought highly of Kristen until Tim opened his mouth about 4x14 and we (then) saw what the show was turning into under her control. Ignorance truly was bliss.

OPLA Japanese Dub Ep 1 Thoughts
Due to life interruptions I never did the full watch through in the Japanese dub that I'd intended to do, so I am starting it now.
I'm actually pretty happy that I had about a month between watching it in English and watching the Japanese dub, because it's given me time to get used to the way I see the characters in English before throwing in the wrench that is their anime personas evoked by the voice actors.
Hoo boy do I have thoughts.
Gold Roger's introductory lines are a little weaker, a little more awkward in the dub. They strike as good a balance as one could expect between the original lines, and having to match the mouth movements and beats of the English, but it creates awkward pauses that just give it less oomf factor.
Gosh Luffy's introduction was strange. Luffy is using words that I would never imagine him to know in the manga/anime, and it was a little jarring at first.
That said, lines that are more geared towards English-language jokes like "Mutiny!" and "It's only my first day!" were edited to be comments like, "Well that didn't work" and "Oh well, it'll work out" respectively, which also grounded me a little more back to anime-Luffy.
The Luffy-Koby dialogue felt a lil more expositiony in Japanese than it felt in English to me, but not in a way that was too distracting. It is exposition, and it's hard to make that flow naturally in a dub.
One of the insults Luffy throws at Alvida was ドS, and my instinctive response was "omg Luffy, who taught you that word????"
Zoro's anime voice coming out of Mackenyu's mouth was a lil weird at first. Because Zoro also speaks slowly in English, in shots where his mouth is visible when he's talking, there's the Gold Roger issue again where his lines feel oddly paced due to having to speak slowly and match the mouth movements.
Nami's voice actress bringing her manga personality into her live action counterpart was a little weird to hear at first, because that whole joyfully conniving side of her seemed largely toned down or absent in the live action, to me. By the end of the episode I was used to it, though.
I have a feeling it's going to be so much harder to like Helmeppo with his anime actor's voice 😂
The Luffy-Zoro meeting when Zoro is tied up scene worked so well, I love this version of Luffy, though Zoro's lines still at some points felt a little oddly paced.
When Luffy tells Zoro, "I'll go high, you go low" in the Japanese dub, it comes out more like, "I'll be on top, you'll be below" with less innuendo than that denotes in English, but definitely with an implication of the power structure that Luffy will have with Zoro. It surprised me a little that Zoro wouldn't object on principle, but then again, different version of Zoro.
I'd also just like to say that as someone with a history with both the LuNa ship and the ZoroLu ship, as well as some guilt-reading of ZoroNami I've done through the years, I can't help but look at some things through shipping goggles.
The way that Nami doesn't try to betray or abandon Luffy at any point through this episode strikes me as very <3
The line "so that's where it goes!" when Zoro puts Wado Ichimonji in his mouth was changed in the dub to "OOOOO, kakkoiiiii" in a way that felt way more enthusiastic than anime Luffy ever was praising Zoro.
Nami cutting in to remind them that they have to get away was just said in a way that made me feel like she, too, sees that Luffy and Zoro are having a meet cute. (Which, frankly, is easy to headcanon—it would explain why she is so fast to call Zoro Luffy's first mate, and perhaps why she is less inclined to be suspicious of them, seeing that they are building a fast, strong connection.)
The music continues to be excellent.
The way the map gets filled in through the ending credits is lovely and I'm glad I have time to watch them through this round <3

The Unsleeping City Chapter Two and Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto
Ally Beardsley said, "I get her Kitchen, that really old book" and I perked up a little bit because I know a book called Kitchen, a niche one that I have analytical thoughts about and love as a piece of art and have never heard anyone mention outside of the class wherein I read it. And then they said "it has this really cool trans character in it," and I had to pause the video to scream about this, because the book I know does in fact have a cool trans woman in it. Her name is Eriko. When I had calmed down enough, I pressed play again and Ally Beardsley said "It's by this writer Banana Yoshimoto" and that is as far as I am into that episode because at that confirmation I had to stop and scream again.
Kitchen, the novella, is made of two different pieces: "Kitchen," about short-novel length by itself, and "Moonlight Shadow," a much shorter story. Both stories are about grief, isolation, connection, and food. Notably, both stories start with the main characters already in mourning, their loved ones already dead. We enter their world as one that is notably empty. This parallels the setting of season two, which opens with introductory scenes that still keenly feel Kugrash's absence.
I have been thinking about Kitchen through this entire season, which is part of why I got so excited when Ally Beardsley mentioned it. Kitchen is a book about grief and grieving and relying on others in your time of need to help you and care for you and give you food. Yoshimoto uses light and dark imagery not as symbols of good and evil, but rather of isolation and connection. Multiple times, she brings us the image of distinct points being connected by light in a dark void, including the main character looking up at the moon in a dark sky and, in one of the closing images of "Kitchen," a lighthouse tracing a road of light across black waves. When our narrator meets one of the people who will become her new household, she sees "in the black gloom before my eyes...a straight road leading from me to him" (Yoshimoto 6-7) (I don't have my book with me but I did find one of my old essays about it :) ). The darkness in these images is that which is not known, that which the characters cannot see through, which is why it represents isolation. They do not have knowledge or connection to that place, even though they may in the future. That way, the imagery is also connected to agency and the act of exploring and reaching out to one's world. Kitchen portrays characters in grief and dangerously deep in self-isolation, and the events and relationships that help them deal with that and figure out how they are going to live now. Yoshimoto characterizes the universe not as malicious but uncaring, and proposes that the response to this is to look for meaning instead in each other and the world we make. Which is exactly the struggle our characters are embarking on against NULL! Meaning, value, the things we personally hold dear; and it doesn't matter if they're "cosmically insignificant" or doomed or can be corrupted or whatever because they exist while they exist and they matter while they're there. Aaaaaaaaaa!!!
I've just remembered that one of the characters in "Kitchen" climbs up on someone's roof in the middle of the night to eat katsudon with them. They were not invited there! It was not katsudon that was in the hotel room! They bought the katsudon in the middle of the night and put it in their backpack and climbed up onto the roof and tapped at the window and said "Hello I brought katsudon"! I love this. It's so good. It's also Kugrash behavior.
Victoria Brown also persistently cares for people by providing them food, which is just to say that these two stories are both thinking about the comforting and communal power of cooking for people and eating together.
If I had a nickel for each time a mysterious, apparently-human but probably supernatural figure connected to a liminal location appeared to a character in need and offered them specifically tea in the Unsleeping City and Kitchen, I would have at least three nickels. Also the liminal location in "Moonlight Shadow" is a bridge over a river, which is traditionally a powerful symbol and also something that holds significance in Unsleeping City geography and lore.
In "Moonlight Shadow," a young man in mourning for his girlfriend wears her clothes every day after her death. I'd like to show Ricky Matsui this bit and hear his thoughts on it because of how he has taken on some of Kugrash's role. Ricky feels pressure from other parties as well, the Questing Blade and the Peasant's Sword, to carry on a legacy (that is symbolized by something one wears or carries).
I think that's all the thoughts I have about it for now, except that I seem to remember a line in "Moonlight Shadow" about a cloudy sky hanging heavy like stone, which might characterize the emotional state of New York in Chapter Two as well.
I'd like to know Pete's (and Ally Beardsley's) thoughts on Eriko as a character, and also if they talked to any of the other people in the season's production about the similarity of themes between the book and the series. If anyone has thoughts they'd like to share about this or about Kitchen in general, please do let me know! I vibrate whenever I get to discuss parallels between different media I'm into.

Headcanon: Rosie has been on Sodor way longer than you’d think...
World War II is a notoriously glossed over time in Sodor history. On an unrelated note, Rosie is a USATC S100, a class of locomotive that was built in the USA and exported to Europe for the Allies’ war effort. Rosie’s introductory episode is one which does not feature any kind of origin story, nor is she said to be new. She just kinda shows up and is treated as if she’s been a character who’s been around this entire time... I’m sure you can see where I’m going with this... 😈
During WWII, the North Western’s roster would only consists of the first six engines, a few of the remaining pre-NWR Grouping engines, and presumably a gaggle of LMS loaners who may or may not be called back home to assist with their home region’s war effort. The prospects of this fleet pulling through in one piece don’t look that good on paper IMO. I think it’s not out of the question for FC1 to put in a call for some reinforcements, and given how the North Western was made for the WWI war effort and likely borrowed many War Department engines back then too, it’d only really be following tradition! And so, Rosie enters the picture. Definitely not in the pink she debuts in on TV, probably in some kind of austere black or gray. She definitely wouldn’t have been alone, I’d like to think there could have been an S160 on Sodor too to help with heavy goods. I am a huge proponent of Hank being an S160 instead of a PRR K4 (I’ll probably make a post about that at some point in the future), but it does have the unfortunate affect of knocking Hank’s one and only episode out of canon on a surface level not only by changing his basis but by making his arrival party impossible due to the presence of Toby and Emily, who would not be there in WWII! But again, this is better suited for another post. Let’s just leave it at “Rosie arrives in Tidmouth straight from America, along with an S160 who may-or-may-not-be Hank.”
I figure the reason she comes to admire Thomas specifically so much is because she was likely assigned to work on his branch line, and thus had a lot of proximity to him during her formative years. TK&ELR Coffee Pots 2-4 would still be around until the early 50s, but they were used sparingly after Thomas’ arrival due to their poor condition among other things. So it would make sense to send a perfectly capable, brand-new tank engine to work alongside Thomas in their place. Rosie would be personality-wise where she is in her Model Series episodes: cheerful, childish, and way too idolizing of Thomas. Admittedly I have no idea if the ongoing war would even allow her to be this way, but I suppose she may be in a similar boat to Thomas? He was built and shipped off right at the start of WWI, and yet was still relatively innocent, albeit not to the degree of Rosie... I figure they were both either sheltered from the respective Horrors of War, or it simply did not affect them as deeply as one might think. Man-made horrors beyond locomotive comprehension? I dunno for sure. I also figure Thomas would loooove the attention of his new charge at first, only to slowly get sick of her over time and end up where he is in her debut episode. Upon the end of WWII, all of the S100s and S160s (save the 10 S100s that became the SR’s USA Class) that were based in the UK were repatriated back to the USA. Given Sodor’s history of, ahem, “retaining” their wartime assistance, I don’t think they would have given them back. But since Rosie’s presence would no longer be a priority on the Ffarquhar line, I think she’d be transferred to another depot on Sodor, possibly either Vicarstown (as per her later role in the CGI Series) or Cronk (which in the RWS would be a major hub for rail on the North Western, and could use a dedicated shunter). I figure this work would keep her sufficiently occupied, which is why FC2 wouldn’t just put her back on the branch during the Knapford Harbor renovation, which otherwise in this HC would be way easier than transferring Percy and bringing in Duck to take his place at Tidmouth.
Thomas probably breathed a sigh of relief once he knew he was safe from Rosie’s potential return! Though since Sodor engines love to stray from their allocations whenever the plot demands, that doesn’t mean he’s safe forever...
And of course, as soon as the war ends and she officially becomes one of the Fat Controller’s Engines, this is when she’d get her ever-so-loved Pink livery... To be honest whenever I think of Rosie’s livery timeline I never come up with a reason why she ever chooses pink. Like, obviously she starts in a wartime livery, and then at some point chooses red over pink as a symbolic way of reinventing herself and ceasing to model herself after anyone else. But at the stage in her life where she idolizes Thomas so much, why would she pick anything that’s not NW Blue? I suppose we’ll never know. Anyway since FC1 has pretty much given up all hope of a standardized livery by this point, I’m sure he’d just accept it and resignedly tell the paint shop lads to start mixing a shade that’s never gone on a steam engine before.
I think that’s all the bases covered. The only thing it doesn’t cover is any of the development that would lead to Red Rosie, but I feel like those events would be a decade or two removed from the war and not really on topic anyway. I just thought this would be a fun way to look at Rosie, or at least an alternative to “she’s one of the 10 SR USA Tanks and came to Sodor post-Oliver”. The only real downside to this HC is that its incompatible with my former pet idea that Rosie was a follower of the Railway Series in the post-war years and her idolization was more akin to a parasocial relationship, and that doesn’t really work if she’s arrived on Sodor and stayed there before the books were even published. Oh well, at least this new Rosie HC would be a much more mentally healthy Rosie, lol.

NCIS Reaction: Hung Out to Dry
Wench (@scripted-downfall) reacts [with (maybe) occasional asides by Jezebel (@typicalopposite)]
This is starting right after the last episode, so there’s no introductory conversation, alas.  Instead, the space in between reactions was filled with Jezebel ignoring me and then insisting I send her the link to the show despite it being RIGHT THE FRICK NEXT TO THE LAST EPISODE.  Hmph.  Problematic one.
Sir is both an asshole and manipulative
[Welp.  That’s a mood killer.]  Ma’am was in the neighborhood and thought she’d invade my reaction, I see.  [That.  Was not to you.  But actually kinda works.]
Oof.  Sir leaves the door unlocked but has no phone.  Unreachable except when he isn't, I see alkdsj
What are the chances he wasn’t already dead and that’s why his chute didn’t open?
"My dad's gonna kill me"  Welp.  Bit dark given the circumstances, but go off  [☠️☠️☠️☠️]
Logan, please.  Wait, shit: *Tony, please
“It was a death rattle”  “You ever hear a death rattle?”  “I was using it as a trope.”  Dude, you’re a tool.
I mean… dead dude = pinata.  Checks out to me, Ducky
Guess the groan might rule out my already-dead hypothesis, but idk if I trust this kid’s judgement
"Why didn't he pull it" BECAUSE HE WAS DEAD
She's still needing to be told to put on gloves alskdjf
Tony and the frivolous photographs.  Max wouldn't take that kinda shit without bitching and you know it (but I love it, so, and I don’t care abt Max’s judgement anyway, so.)
THOSE BOOTS LOOK AWESOME; I'M JEALOUS
Tony, focus.
Tony is not focusing
"It's his anniversary"  "Which marriage"  Anniversary of a death, maybe?  Dead wife?
Oh dammit.  So much for that^.
Tony continues to not focus and I appreciate this
"We don't stop for casualties in war.  Nor do we in training" that's stupid [☠️☠️☠️☠️ military *sigh*  This is a spin off of Jag btw.]  Ah, I see.  [iirc Gibbs was in an ep of jag and people liked him so much he got his own show…. That’s still running] Damn
"I'm not calling my boss.  I'm calling yours"  Well, damn.
"Thumper" like the bunny rabbit? aslkdfj
IT IS THUMPER LIKE THE BUNNY RABBIT
“Was he dead when you reached him?”  NO HE WAS DEAD IN THE AIR; GUARANTEEEEEE  (I’m gonna cry if this is wrong; I’m so convinced about it at this point)
"Obviously his reaction time was too slow" or maybe he was DEAD
I spy with my little eye a scene from the intro
Dammit.  FINE, okay, guess he wasn’t dead when he fell.  Hmph.  Rude. (*cries*)
Okay, Tony and Abby and their art conversation are, at once, my beloveds
“Double your pleasure”  “Double your fun”  Please.  PLEASE.  These two are hilarious together
Poor Tony, stuck being the audience scapegoat since someone had to ask about opioids and obviously he’s stuck in that role
Um.  An acid?  That’s.  That’s so specific.
Tony, why are you fiddling with the parachutes?  Someone’s gotta re-rig that now alksdfj
Oof, not the criminal recor- I’M SORRY, SHOPLIFTING AND DRUG POSSESSION??? THOSE ARE NOT REALLY THE MOST GATEWAY CRIMES TO MURDER
Okay, hair still isn’t regulation, and lab coats aren’t supposed to be open, but I appreciate the other PPE.  CSI doesn’t even use goggles most of the time.
I continue to love Abby
NOT TONY STILL HARPING ON THE ELECTRICAL TOOLS
Gibbs is still an ass, and the Alec-coded character continues to suffer the brunt of it.  But Jezebel has said that there’s an even more Max-coded character later, which will be.  Interesting.
Wait, I’m sorry.  Excuse me.  Nine of the sixteen chutes were sabotaged.  They’re randomly handed out.  The entire point of this information is that — unless more is learned — no one specific person was being targeted.  So saying “this person had a grudge against the dude who happened to die” is so illogical because they just spent the last five minutes pointing out repeatedly that it was a random chute assignment!?!??!  AHHHHH
Abby picking on Tony feels more affectionate, ngl.  I don’t hate it
Oh, no, not the epithelial analysis alksdfj
– – –
Did I forget the midpoint reaction again?  Mebbe.  But that’s a good sign because clearly I was just.  So absorbed.
ANYWAY.  Still enjoying it!  I’m kinda annoyed by the whole, you know, pick-on-Tony brigade (not as much with Abby because it feels like banter not picking, and those are different, but it still is a bit.  Hmm.) but otherwise, not bad!  I don’t know enough about the show to say if I like this episode better or worse than the pilot, but I’ll get more of a sense of that as the season progresses.  Abby, my beloved.  Alec Tony, my vaguely-idiot beloved.  (Yes, I am seeing him as an extension of Alec; what of it!?)
On we go.
– – –
“For every legal firewall, there is a way around it”  That’s not concerning at all
Not Tony knowing where Gibbs was going with the horse analogy; how many times you used that one, bud?
Y’all, please, this is twice now (once in the title, once in a quote) that y’all used “hung”.  It’s hangeddddd
“Scuttlebutt”  Tony, I appreciate you
Tony, stop rambling about Gibbs’ wife.  Ex-wife.  Whatever.
Can we please stop making Tony an idiot; this wasn’t in his character in episode 1 and it’s rude [Oooof. You. You may be in for an unpleasant surprise]  *sigh* Look.  As I said.  I’m viewing him as Alec 2.0.  I still like Alec better, but.  Yeah.  So I’m unhappy with this development
Poor kid (not sarcastic)
Being nice to the kid = way to ingratiate yourself with the grieving widow, I see
I, too, would ruin my outfit right before a funeral because I wanted to climb trees.  (I did that once, actually.  Went to a wedding wearing high heels and managed to strip the fabric off the heel because of how much running around playing tag I was doing.  I was a teenager.)
Not a bad salute, to my knowledge
Oh, no.  Tony, please be safe.
"Research for Abby"  Is that what they're calling it these days?
“How did you get into NCIS?”  Rude.
Y'all, I'm begging you.  If you have long hair.  TIE IT BACK.  Speaking as someone who has worked in an actual lab, this is killing me.
... Sergeant Nutt, huh?
THE SCUTTLEBUTT RETURNS
Y’all, please.  Once again.  Stop.  Acting.  Like this was targeted.  To “Thumper.”  The chutes were randomly assigned.
Leave Tony aloneeeeee
Poor Tony.  (They didn’t leave him alone.)  [Alas they typically don’t]
I am once again begging y’all to consider that this was a RANDOM ACT OF SABOTAGE
“With Gibbs you never know”  Yeah, buddy’s a bit enigmatic.
Cocaine = Motive!  Except!  Once again!  Apparently!  It!  Was!  Random!
Not the Significant Looks
Oh, no.  I thought the “Oh, no.  Tony, please be safe.” jump was bad enough.  This is.  Worse.
I'm sure it'll be made clear but how dare y'all stick him with a broken reserveeeee
NO THIS IS ACTUALLY HILARIOUS  “No, 4’s unlucky in China”  “We’re not in China”
I’m vaguely annoyed that the drug possession apparently was the gateway crime to murder.  You couldn’t have given the guy an assault charge or something?  That feels a bit more in line with murder.
Did.  Did Tony just fall out of the plane.
I guess he's having a good time doing it, but.  sir.   This is not what I meant by "please be safe"
This kid is adorable, and I appreciate Gibbs helping with the treehouse.
THAT’S A WRAP!
– – –
This episode may or may not have aggravated me.  A lot.  It would have been soooo easy to just leave off the whole “the chutes were given out randomly” bit if they wanted it to be targeted.  Or, if it were supposed to be random, then have one of the riggers be pissed for mistreatment from the whole unit, so it didn’t really matter who got sabotaged.  But now, there’s this glaring writing illogic that is.  Bugging me.
I still love Abby in all things.  Tony’s characterization feels iffy compared to last episode, but whatever; I still, currently, am okay with it.  Gibbs continues to be a bit of an ass.  Kate and he continue to be… complicated.  I like Ducky, but he wasn’t in that one much.
Still enjoying, though, so we’ll see what it’s like when the first episodes’ jitters work out!

Love Live! Sunshine!! Season 2: EP 5-8 Watchthrough
#5: "Taking in a Dog"
i still don't think yohane ever really hit that pitch perfect note with her character like she did in her full introductory episode, but more of this vulnerability is what i wanted. cute riko/yohane episode.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
yohane trying to command the umbrella to stop lol
Tumblr media
just like the dia episode, lots of strong comedy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
a lot of misnaming this entire episode for this cute little quip at the end (you could argue the whole dog chasing was a bit mean-spirited too but it's just for giggles) but i'll just take it as an episode about riko learning to use someone's preferred name. she is yohane.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and then we check in on the girlfriend by the end, of course.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i don't think this season has been quite as strong as season 1 so far. season 1 was kind of phenomenally structured as a first season. basically perfect, if not for the always lacklustre ending.
season 2 seems to be kinda loosely jumping around, focusing on the side characters, and i'd expect the movie to pull things together to focus more on the main trio again. which all sounds like good fun.
#6: "Aqours Wave"
aaah, these two!! best girlfriends in the world, cheering chika up!
Tumblr media
did i miss some godzilla reference they did in season 1 tho? cause they keep making those jokes as if it's a running gag. don't get me wrong, it's cute as fuck, but i have no memory of when it started so to me it's just random godzilla noises they make sometimes for no reason
these two are cute too, but in a platonic kind of way
Tumblr media
remember when i said that everything with the third years is so dramatic? yeah. the other girls are just goofy dorks, but there's always tragic drama breweing between these three in the background lol.
Tumblr media
it may seem like most of my enjoyment of this show comes from my ships (cute moment here again, i'll remind you that they're polyamorous) but it's the snappy comedy and SoL which makes this franchise. the larger emotional beats (like the concert here) can be a bit rushed
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
#7: "The Time Left"
damn. that's a bold story decision, but very glad they're going down this route to distinguish themselves further from SiP.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
respect for this. and makes me interested in knowing what other love live series will do, unless they (preferably) abandon the whole save the school set-up altogether.
#8: "Hakodate"
maybe you should hug her warm.
Tumblr media
look at her matching scarf and earmuffs. her earmuffs are little oranges, i love that. matches her hair ofc, that too. she's an icon.
Tumblr media
it's nice that these two share a room. we sometimes get distracted by riko, the new hot fling, but you is her oldest friend (and lover). which room is riko in tho? i think the first years share a room so maybe she's on the right to chika instead? didn't look like it.
Tumblr media
outside of me shipping these Ruby and Leah (they were holding hands infront of a Christmas tree), the drama is a bit eh. I like conceptually a lot here, about Ruby growing up without relying on Dia, but a lot of it resulted in "nuhuh, my sister is the best!"
i do think sunshine has been a bit more effective on whole impermanence theme, but it's just not that amazing of a drama so its sentimentality can butcher its otherwise usually strong comedy (which has felt routine and repetitive lately)

*Disclaimer: I do not own or claim to own BBC’s Merlin, nor do I profit or intend to profit from this story. It is purely a work of fanfiction for enjoyment. I only own my original characters and any storylines/plot points I add to the story. Without further ado, enjoy my Take on the Arthurian legend with a multiverse twist.*
Prologue
Have you ever wanted to live in your favorite television show? To be able to change something that happened, to be able to interact with the characters, and experience the events that happen for yourself. Not many even dream of such a thing and if they do they don’t believe it could ever happen. But for me… it was impossible and it happened quite by accident.
It all started the first day of my senior year, I arrived home from work and headed to my room. Once I put away my bookbag and got out my homework, I turned on Merlin (which happens to be one of my favorite tv shows). I decided that I should start the usual introductory work given to me by my new teachers. Time passed as I listened to the sound of Merlin arguing with Arthur in the background as I mindlessly completed the busy work of homework given.
*Knock, Knock*  “Hey, sweetie? Can I come in, Scarlett?” My mom asked.
“Yeah, come in Momma” I said as she opened my door and walked towards me.
She sat down and asked, “So… how was school and work today?”
“Ya’know, just the usual and my teachers already gave me homework. On the first day of school! Can you believe that? It is so rude” I said as sassily as possible while I smiled up at my mom and she pulled me into a hug.
“I guess they are just getting right down to it, mmh. Making all of you smart kids even smarter” She messed up my hair to tease me.
“Hahah, that’s not a word, Momma. Also, why are you messing up my hair… I have to meet up with Adelaide as soon as I finish my homework” I attempted to rectify the mess of my blonde hair.
“Ok, ok, sorry that I am doing my job as a mother and teasing my daughter. What are you watching?” She asked, pointing at my TV.
“Merlin”
“Again? What episode are you on?”
“Season 1, episode 1”
“Wait. I thought you were in season 5? Did you already finish it?”
“Yeah, sadly I did. The ending was so tragic but also really well written”
“Well, don’t get too distracted from your homework and make sure to let me know when you leave for Adelaide’s, Okay? Also, tell her I said hi”. Mom hugged me really tight and then left the room. As she did the dog came running in.
“Hey, girl!!! Come here, up on the bed! Let me love you!” Lucky (my husky) jumped onto my bed and licked my face. “Wanna help me with my homework, pup?” she stared at me blankly in response,”ugh, ‘kay. I’ll do it myself” I said as I ruffled her fluffy gray and white fur. Time passed slowly as I answered the generaric, ‘get to know me’ questions assigned by each and every one of my teachers. Yay, me! What a way to start off the school year… homework. Luckily, I had ‘Merlin’ to keep me entertained with Merlin and Arthur’s banter. It often reminds me of my own relationship with Adelaide, we often make jokes and tease one another. So much so, to the point that if you didn’t know us; you would probably think we did not like one another much. But, usually within five minutes we are hugging and laughing, unlike Arthur and Merlin.
After I finally finished the boring homework, I headed to Adelaide’s humble abode to help her with her’s. Though I don’t understand why she needs my help with it, it’s just busy work. I pulled up to her house and texted my mom that I was there once I parked (Of course, ‘cause you should never text and drive, kids).  I walked up to the door and knocked, although most people would just text saying they were there… I just didn’t feel like it.
“Merlin!!!!”I may have forgotten to mention my friend has watched some of the show too and has decided that I have the same ‘vibe’ as Merlin, hence the nickname,” You here! I haven’t seen you in a month!”
“Yes and you could have just texted me anytime to see me or Facetime me” I gave her a pointed look but then laughed after about 3 seconds.
“It’s not my fault that you are so busy, also come in, please. We don’t want to let the cool air out of the house. It’s blazing hot out there” I walked inside and we headed to her room.
“So, Ada. What homework did you need help with? All the stuff I got was just busy work” I made a confused face as I turned to look at Ada who was standing over at her desk near her window on the opposite side of the bedroom.
“Oh, well about that… I actually just wanted to hangout so I made up a reason”
“You did not have to do that silly girl. I was free today anyways”
“So… Do you wanna watch something?”
“Sure, wanna finish the first episode of Merlin with me?” I hesitantly asked, as she is not as big of a fan of the show as I am. Though I do know she enjoys certain episodes and she has not made it past ‘Eye of the Phoenix’ (an episode in season three).
“Lol, you’re really into that show… yeah, I would love to. I haven’t seen the show in a while and it might be a nice refresher. Plus, your play by play and comments are hilarious”
“I am not obsessed!” I jokingly acted offended by her comment.
“Yes, you are. Remember, that is why I call you Merlin”
“No, Ada, you said it was because he and I have the same personality”
“That is only one of the reasons, anyways that would make me Arthur”
“Who assigned you that? I suppose you are right though, you are rather a prat sometimes” I walked closer to her slowly as we talked.
“If I’m a prat then you're a Dollophead” She raises her eyebrows with sass.
“Cabbage head”
“Turnip head”
“Bone idle toad”
“Ugh, I hate you sometimes,”Ada said, annoyed as she ran out of ‘Merlin’ insults.
“Yeah but you love me and you know it” I began to tickle her.
“Ahhh! Ye..yeah and… I don’t know.. Why!!! Stop it!! Scarlett!!” I stopped and let her catch her breath. Then all of the sudden she retaliated and tickled me until I tapped out. We eventually calmed down and turned on the show and we ended up watching about five episodes. While watching those episodes we laughed, snacked, and made fun of each other.
“Thanks for having me over, Ada. I really have to head home now. I haven’t had dinner yet, and before you say anything; snacks do not count”
“Ugh, okay. Are you sure you can’t sleep over?” she gave her infamous puppy eyes.
“Ada” I gave her a scolding look,” you know puppy dog eyes don’t work on me. I really do have to go. I promised Mom that me, her, and dad could watch a romcom tonight before bed”
“Wait. Your dad watches romcoms?”
“Yeah, he is like me and will watch just about any movie as long as it has good writing and acting in it” I gave her a big hug before I walked to her door and said,”bye”. I got in my deep red Jeep and drove away. As I was driving home, I began to turn off of the highway and a semi-truck ran a light and crashed into me with a loud honk of their horn. All went black and all I felt was a sharp pain in my neck and spine then nothing…
Chapter One: Ealdor
I have no idea how much time had passed before I came to but when I did I had a killer headache. I began to open my eyes and I saw an old looking, wooden ceiling above me and I could feel a blanket on top of me. Although, I could tell that I was not in my bed or at a hospital because the bed was way too hard and the room would not have a wooden roof.
“Mother! She’s starting to walk up” I heard a male voice with an English accent say. But why would someone in the US have an English accent? Was he a tourist?
“Coming!” I tried to sit up but as I did I felt an excruciating pain radiate through my body.
“Hello, My name is Hunith and this is my son Merlin. We found you unconscious in the forest. Do you remember your name or how you came to be there?” Hunith (who also had an English accent) said calmly and slowly. I tried to sit up again as the first try was unsuccessful,”Hey, hey, don’t try to sit up yet. You were out for quite a while. I am sure you probably have a concussion”
“Where am I?” I asked before answering anything.
“You are in Ealdor. In Cenred’s kingdom” The boy, who apparently was named after a wizard, said.
“I’m Scarlett. To answer your questions: Yes I know my name, eheh obviously, and no I don’t know how I got here” I said as I sat up, against Hunith’s advice.
“Where are you from, Scarlett? You have an accent that I have never heard before” Hunith politely asked.
“I’m from the southern part of Virginia”I warrily answered. How come they’ve never heard an American accent when they are in America?
“What kingdom is that in?” Merlin asked rather suddenly.
“What do you mean? What kingdom? It isn’t one at all, it’s in the United States, it’s a democratic republic based government” They looked at me very confused,”You know,’consent of the governed’,’We the people’ and all that?”
“I am sorry. I’ve never heard of anything like that or of a place with the name ‘United States’” Merlin said as both he and his mom looked at me weirdly.
“How have you guys never heard of the United States of America? It’s pretty much impossible not to know about it in the 21st century. Where am I? I thought I was still in the USA” then I began to realize. Earlier they said I was in Ealdor and their names were Hunith and Merlin, like as in the ‘BBC’s Adventures of Merlin’. But how is that possible? It is one, a television show, and two it ended in 2012. I began to feel my chest tighten and my breath quicken. I felt scared and panicked, and I heard ringing in my ears.
“Woah, woah!! Are you ok?” Merlin asked nervously as he observed me.
    “Can’t breathe! I..I.. think.. I’m having…a… a panic attack” I said between gasps.
“Ok, darling, focus on me and try to breathe when I breathe. Can you do that for me?” I nodded as I stared at her face and followed her breathing,”Merlin, can you go grab a glass of water for Scarlett here?”
“Of course, I’ll be right back”
“Ok, Scarlett. I need you to tell me five things that you see” Hunith instructed me.
    “Uhh… You.. I see you… I see… the ceiling”
    “Good, one more thing”
    “The bed”
“Great job, sweetheart. Now, how about three things you can feel?”
I took a deep breath,” I feel the blanket, uhhh, the bed, and…” she grabbed my hand and weakly smiled,”and your hand”.
“And two things you can smell?”
“Forest, uhh,I mean wood, and honeysuckle”
“I brought the water” he handed it to me,”Are you feeling better?”
“I am now, thanks to your mom” I turned to Hunith who was still holding my hand,”Thank you, truly”.
“It’s nothing, I am just glad your ok”
“Wait… earlier did you say the 21st century?” Merlin asked curiously but also seemingly very confused by it.
“Ummm. Yeah. It’s still 2022 after all isn’t it. Time Travel doesn’t exist after all” I said jokily with a small hint of sass. Hunith and her son shared a shocked and concerned look.
“Ummm, Scarlett it is 506 (a/n: IDK the date of the show as far as arthurian legend, I am just using the date used in “Paper Wings” by @abst0ries . Anyways, many believe the King Arthur legend and Camelot took place some time between the 4th and 6th century). Are you saying you're from the 21st century” After Merlin told me that it was no longer 2022, I felt like I was Claire from ‘Outlander’ when she traveled through the stones at Craigh na Dun to the 18th century. But for Claire Fraser it was only 200 hundred years, for me (if this is real) it seems to be about 1500 years. I thought for a few moments and I came to the conclusion that this may be the real Merlin and Hunith from the show. I mean if time travel is real then why not mulit-reality travel like in the MCU. Right now I feel like anything is possible.  Anyways, I am getting sidetracked… I took about an hour to explain to Hunith and Merlin all I could remember from leaving Ada’s house to now. I only told them because if this really is Merlin, then he has magic and most likely will believe me. Afterall, he and his mom look just like they do in the show and I mean identical to Colin Morgan and the actress who portrayed Hunith.
“Wow, that is a lot to take in” Merlin stated.
“Yeah, no duh, Sherlock” I said quietly and Merlin gave me an odd look. We all were silent for a solid 2 minutes, “So… Do you believe me?” Dear Jesus… Please let them not think I am crazy and help me to survive whatever on Earth this all is.
“Yes” They both replied at the same time.
“Really? You don’t think I am a raving lunatic?” I said cautiously with hope.
“Yes. So.. what are you going to do? I know you know a little about this time from your.. What did you call it? Television show about me and people in my life. Which is still bizarre to think that there is a show with me in it” Merlin said as Hunith left to do some chores that needed to be done. As she did so she told me to rest and told Merlin to keep me company and make sure I rest.
“I am unsure as to what there is that I can do. I honestly don’t understand how I got here or is I am even in my own reality” I sighed,” I must sound like someone from “Doctor Who’ or some kinda sci-fi, fantasy story”
    “Scarlett?”
    “Yeah?”
“What’s Doctor Who? And what’s Sci-fi?” Merlin asked. Oh boy… I am going to have to be careful with my 21st century slang. Otherwise I will just keep confusing people.
Over the next couple months, I healed up nicely thanks to Hunith and Merlin’s help. They are truly the kindest people I have ever met. Hunith allowed me to stay with them and I helped them make an extra bed (I took woodworking in school and I know how to chop down a tree). Once I was all healed, I began to help Hunith with chores around the home and Merlin and I became friends. To be honest, I am surprised that he isn't creeped out by the fact that I know so much about him, like at all. He is really curious, just like in the show. He has asked me a trillion questions over the course of the time I have lived here in Ealdor.
“So… how is it living in the 6th century? Now that you’ve been here for a while. You have seemed to acclimate well” Merlin asked as we were walking through the village.
“It certainly is very different from home but it is not as bad as one would think” I said with a silly smile looking at Merlin, “Thanks for being my friend. Seriously it has made it a lot easier”.
Merlin was trying not to smile,”To be fair, you have helped me as well. Before you came here, I didn’t have many friends. Really, in truth, I only had Will. So, thank you for showing up here. Even if you didn’t mean to and if you did get hurt in the process of it”
“So… When did you first figure out that you had magic? I know you’ve been able to use it since you were an infant. But, when did you really know what it was? I have always kinda wondered” I said, trying to change the subject after a few moments of silence. I really miss my parents and Ada but I try not to think about it too much since I don’t really have anything I can do to change the situation. I might as well be grateful for what I have and let God do what he does best. Anyways, God always has a plan so some good will come from this one way or another. I have to believe that.
“I don’t know the exact moment. Maybe once I was around other kids and mother would ask me to not use my abilities around them” Merlin said, bringing me back to the moment and out of my head.
“That must have been confusing for a kid… To be told not to do something and not know why. To feel your different from others”
“...” Merlin didn’t answer and when I looked at him he looked distraught.
“Hey. Hey. Hey, there is nothing wrong with being different. God makes us the way we are for a reason. There is a purpose to your gifts, and I know God loves you no matter what others say '' I say with certainty that there was nothing wrong with Merlin and he should not be upset about being set apart.
“Thank you, Scarlett. Really, you're a God sent and my best friend” Merlin walked closer to me and pulled me into a hug. I smiled knowing I cheered him up and rubbed off on him. He wasn’t a huge hugger with anyone but his mom before I came. But, now he openly hugs me.
“Merlin!!! Scarlett!!” Hunith yelled for us. Hunith has become like a motherly figure for me through these past few months and I am forever grateful.
“We’re Coming” I replied. Speaking of me saying stuff. I am surprised that no one else in the village has said anything about my accent. I guess they don’t care much; it is the only explanation I can think of. With that we walked back to the house.
“Hey, Scarlett, you may already know this… Merlin, I am going to send you to Camelot to live with Gaius… and I want you, Scarlett, to go with him” Hunith informed us.

On Entrapta and her malleable morality...  So, out of the blue tonight in my email inbox, I get a reply to a comment I made on a fic literally years ago? 2 or 3 years ago? Reading the comment and going back over the fic (I didn’t need to read it again, just seeing some of the replies) I was “Oh, that fic.” The author took their name off of it apparently - I think I remember who did it, but they put their fic on anon at some point.  In any case, it was a hardcore horror She-Ra fic.   You know, the kind of thing that I like to read sometimes, in any fandom I’m in. Dark, sick, twisted.  Stuff like I write sometimes.  Although, in this case, I left feeling it was fairly out of character, and yet second-guessing myself on my feelings of it being out of character, because dammit, Entrapta is confusing.  The plot of the story was that Entrapta asks Adora for a favor - without Adora knowing that the favor was going to involve her getting strapped down to a table and full-out vivisected while transforming into She-Ra so that Entrapta could study the physiology of the transformation.  It was very holeeee snhickies!  Anyway, apparently, years ago, I said “Every fandom needs a Cupcakes, this is this fandom’s Cupcakes,” and... then had to explain to someone what “Cupcakes” was.  (My Little Pony hardcore gore fanfic - I read that one without even being in the fandom having heard of its infamy).  I just got a reply in my inbox about how “But unlike Cupcakes with Pinkie Pie, this is in character for Entrapta.”   .... Cue me having flashbacks to dumb fandom-arguments I’ve had with people regarding characterization of Entrapta, other darkness fans, for whom I’m apparently not dark enough to be the cool kid because I always found the really hardcore “just wants to vivisect everyone” characterization of Entrapta off-putting and not quite right. Personally.  I’m never going to tell anyone what to write.  And, as noted, I can even enjoy such fanfics when I’m in a hardcore horror mood.  (Although I prefer that kind of hardcore horror with Horde Prime these days).   I mean, it’s just my opinion, but I don’t see Entrapta that way?  Maybe if she had stuck to the show-pitch version of her rather than the version she became for the actual show... yeah, I’ve read the show-bible pitch and saw how much was changed for all of the characters.  The Entrapta that we see in the final canon? Not so much, although with perhaps some nods to the original ideas.  It seems to me that some people in the fandom go hardcore World War II-style atrocity-experiments with her based solely on a throwaway line in her introductory episode which was (probably) a joke.  Yes, she mentioned “taking her (Adora) apart to be sure,” but I was always under the impression that she either thought that She-Ra was at least partially technology / possibly an android (that would presumably feel no pain) or it was a joke.   Then again... Entrapta is... weird. And she does do some blatantly awful things, like cackling when screwing up the weather with the Black Garnet experiment, wanting just to sit back and scientifically observe in White Out when She-Ra was rage-infected, doesn’t give a crap that her fun new lab partner wants to bring a brutal alien army to subjugate her planet (and, yeah, she was with the Horde then, but unlike the Horde soldiers, Catra and Scorpia, didn’t seem to believe in the Horde as a cause, nor as a personal ambition), she just sort of thought it was the price of breaking physics and seeing the stars?   Yet, here you know, She-Ra is not hardcore or adult enough a show to have the cute, perky mad scientist actually cutting into people alive and screaming.  It just feels off to me, even for fanfic.  Maybe it’s my own medical phobias talking.  But then, I think of how we see the good of Entrapta, how when she connects to people (and robots) she’s empathetic and prone to see the humanity in beings that others dismiss.  (Hordak, Wrong Hordak, Emily).  It just seems to me like when up close and personal with someone, she wouldn’t really want to hurt them (at least if she could get her knowledge any other way).  She definitely becomes more helpful than harmful as the series progresses.   I guess I just wanted opinions on this?  From mutuals? Discuss?  No fighting? I think the fandom has room for an infinite amount of headcanons?   Although I am hoping that people will tell me that I’m not wrong to feel weird about the turbo “strap down the specimen and fetch me the earplugs” type of Entrapta headcanon.  To me, she strikes me as being more like Moira Brown of Fallout 3 (a canon for a mature audience that could and did get away with gruesome human experiments as part of its plotline, just with other characters)... Moira is cheerful and if you do her questline, you will get hurt for science, but she’s there to patch you up and doesn’t want any real harm to come to you.  Meh. *Wonders.*

What are your in depth feelings about Okazaki's route?
Hi Anon, thanks for asking! Since you asked for in depth feelings, this post contains spoilers for all of Okazaki’s route in Collar x Malice and Collar x Malice Unlimited! There are also a ton of CG spoilers here too! I’ll keep this post under a read more because of said spoilers :)
Content warnings (for game and post): guns, police, terrorism, suicide, ptsd, depression, death. Please be mindful of your triggers and skip this post if you feel the need, your mental health is worth more than a silly analysis post :)
I am going to start this off with the huge disclaimer that I played Okazaki’s route in my senior year of high school and his route was the first proper Otomate route I played, so I probably have some huge nostalgia blinders on! Okazaki is also my favorite from CxM, so that, again, will make this post very biased.
Tumblr media
I bought Collar x Malice not realizing it was an otome game, but after looking it up I was pretty excited! One of my friends can vouch that Okazaki was one of two characters I was most hyped for, and originally I only wanted to play his route first. This was also the first time I realized otome games can have route orders and some routes would be locked. Otome is a very niche genre, and back then it was even more niche with only like 10-15 Otomate titles officially localized and I generally only had access to the NTT Solmare, Voltage, and other mobile-focused company games. After trying to search for people saying I could confidently play Okazaki’s route first, I just went for it and I’m glad I did! Okazaki’s route is very introductory to the game, similarly to Mineo’s. Speaking of introductions, let’s start specifically with the common route.
Tumblr media
So Okazaki’s introduction as this more aloof, kinda silly guy made me even more invested in picking his route first. I usually play otome titles with guides, and this guide telling me I couldn’t pick the character but had to choose the correct options made me so relieved I looked up a guide first. Okazaki’s introduction of climbing through a window was so funny to me, I was instantly attached. I was kind of indifferent and even skeptical towards every other love interest at this point too. Okazaki, oddly enough, seemed the most normal and carefree of the options, which further solidified my stance on him being my favorite before the route even started. I liked that even though he doesn’t really know what’s going on and is obviously keeping tabs on Yanagi and Friends, he’s willing to be a friend to Ichika and help her look into these X-Day cases.
Tumblr media
Before Okazaki discovers she’s stuck with the collar because of Adonis, he’s really kind and helpful. He’s looking out for her safety, helping her conduct investigations, and being a friend to her. But once it’s revealed that she has connections to Adonis, we start to see another side of Okazaki. Okazaki is somebody who is very dedicated to his job as as this route goes on we see and learn more about why he is the way he is. Okazaki’s route covers PTSD, depression, and suicidal ideation very well in my opinion. It’s very obvious that watching his first SP partner die by saving Okazaki from dying has effected him deeply, which is exactly what would happen in real life. Seeing Okazaki slowly change from wanting to die for the sake of somebody he deems a good person because he thinks so low of himself to being ok with the mistakes he’s made and learning to cope with his trauma and move on was a great experience for me. I was also in the depths of a depression episode around the time I played his route, so it was nice to be able to relate to a character who was going through similar problems. I think his character arc was really something amazing.
Tumblr media
So his tragic ending was something that really hit me. I played all the bad endings before the good ending, and I was actually in tears over this ending. I understand why he was ready to end it all. It was really nice to see that he did grow and change enough to listen to the part of him that wanted to keep living for Ichika since that’s what she wanted, even if he was killed right after she was.
Tumblr media
As for his good ending, I liked how cute it was and that they do get a happy ending together. I don’t really have much thoughts beyond that other than it was a suiting good ending lol.

After I finished playing his route, I realized Okazaki was a fairly polarizing character which I didn’t really expect but I can kinda see why. He’s got some toxic behaviors, but so do all of these characters. I can see why some people don’t like his flaws though because they can be considered more “clingy” than some others. I think this is ok for me though because it transforms from putting her on this perfect angel pedestal to more of oh people care for me perspective. He still definitely has more to work on through some therapy though, I’m not going to deny that.
Tumblr media
Now for the fandisc…man I was disappointed with this. It’s a nice story, don’t get me wrong, but it basically has all his growth undone and we go through it all over again but shorter and now he’s more jealous than before (to me at least). This is the only fandisc I’ve played through as of writing, and I know not all after stories aren’t as disappointing as his but man I’m going to be sad if more of my favs get this treatment.
Tumblr media
I think Okazaki still ends up being a very well written character overall, in both the CxM universe and otome games in general, but the fandisc definitely ruins some of his writing for me. His route is also always going to be one I treasure, considering it fully pushed me into enjoying more of these games and wanting to play more.

The Lovers: Sardine Sandwiches (Seventies TV Season)
Tumblr media
Content warning: rape
The introduction to this series of posts on 1970s TV shows can be found here: https://www.tumblr.com/culttvblog/729351469162233856/seventies-tv-season-introduction
I commented in the introductory post to this series that 1970s TV can be incredibly problematic, featuring sexism, racism, all kinds of sexual offences and so on. Regular readers will know my long-term policy is that I only blog about TV which I consider good, and will not platform entertainment featuring racism, sexism, etc. Nonetheless I was very aware that there was quite a lengthy list of shows that I wouldn't be blogging about and was slightly worried that this series of posts would end up being a series of three or four.
For that reason I was delighted to discover this 1970-71 series, about the toings and froings in love of a young couple played by legendary and much-loved actors Richard Beckinsale (Geoffrey Scrimshaw) and Paula Wilcox (Beryl Battersby). Beckinsale is probably best known for Porridge and Rising Damp before his tragically early death and all I can say is that I can't overstate the affection in which he is held. Wilcox is just as well known and her credits include Man About the House (obviously not frightened of the sexy stuff) and Emmerdale. Nothing could possibly go wrong with these two much-loved characters in a show which has a 12 certificate on its Network DVD release.
So it hit me like a lorry when, two minutes and twenty seconds in to this the first episode, Geoffrey is eyeing Beryl across a market and thinking about her before audibly saying, 'Oh God, I want to rape her!', followed by a laugh track.
WHAT.
And that was how, four posts in, this series crashed straight into the rock which is 1970s sexual attitudes. Don't get me wrong, I love all the sexy stuff from the seventies: I love sex comedies, I love the Confessions films, I love dirty jokes, my inner world makes the baby-eating bishop of Bath and Wells look naive. I was fully expecting to be dealing with sexy stuff in posts about the TV of the decade that goes with sex like fish goes with chips, but, come on. Rape? But then this was the age in which Peter Wyngarde released a record in which he 'sang' about rape.
I don't even think that something so wrong that early in the show is the reason I had never heard of it until I came across it down the back of the Internet Archive. Bearing in mind that this show was made in the age when pretty much everything was about getting 'it', and if it wasn't about getting 'it', it was about what you did once you'd got it to get more of 'it', there's something that doesn't sit right about this series.
To avoid any further beating about the bush the problem is that for a show called The Lovers, Geoffrey and Beryl aren't actually making love at all. I haven't watched the entire series so have no idea how it progresses, but a whole TV show about a young couple who obviously want sex, and the way each of them takes it in turn to sabotage the other's attempts to get to the point, frankly isn't the best viewing. It should really be called 'Self-Sabotage', rather than The Lovers.
There is a problem with this episode (again, I have no idea how this plays out over the whole series, but have seen one other episode and suspect that this may have changed as the series progressed) which is that this episode gives a vibe that it is Beryl stopping any sex happening and that she should just give it up to him. There, I've said it. It gives the impression that she is 'playing hard to get' and should just put it out for him and leap into bed. You will gather that I'm really finding this show quite distasteful. In fact the reason it's appearing here is mainly because it's an unusual character for Richard Beckinsale which I think readers might like to see, but as a whole the show is a terrible misstep.
I watch every TV episode I blog about here at least twice and of course I've found myself thinking about how I wish this show could have been. Obviously they should have got rid of the reference to rape, because that wasn't entertaining even in 1970. Other shows manage to have two protagonists who combine incredible sexual chemistry with never getting to the point (I mean, look at Steed and Mrs Peel), but they usually are shows about something other than the protagonists' relationship. This would have been good set in a workplace, hospital, or even university and that would have provided an additional subject for the show. I haven't seen this said anywhere, so I'm guessing, but this feels like the show is trying to be about the relationship, but is ending up being about the couple's wanting sex and that's where it goes wrong. It could have been all about how their relationship developed; for example we are told in the first episode that they've obviously known each other some time and had some sort of tiff or disagreement, and there we potentially have a whole episode of a show all about a relationship.
So I wouldn't necessarily suggest anyone watches this except for a different Beckinsale role, and a quite magnificent collection of 1970s decor, for example that wallpaper forming the background to Beckinsale smooching a life-size cut-out of Brigitte Bardot. If you slept with that wallpaper you absolutely would dream about Brussels sprouts.
The seventies were obviously a different age, and I'm glad they're gone.

Adventures Of Sonic The Hedgehog - Sonic The Matchmaker (Review & Screenshots)
It's been a while since I've visited the ol' blue pincushion and his Badnik "buddies"! This one's another episode based around relationships, so it's probably gonna get weird!
The story starts with Scratch and Grounder coming home to Robotnik after yet another botched attempt at murdering Sonic, which results in Robotnik getting blasted by a stick of dynamite. Now in a very poor mood, Robotnik demands that the two badniks pamper him and fluff his pillows. Scratch comments that he sounds like he wants a maid, and Robotnik goes on to say he wants someone to love, cherish and (most importantly) obey him. Scratch takes this to mean he wants a wife (though it's just as possible he could want a husband, Scratch!)  and Robotnik is inspired to build a wife of his own, Bride-of-Frankestein style.
Showing a surprising amount of observance, the two badniks express concern that this might not be a good idea as when he recently made both Breezie and Junior, they both ended up betraying him.  Robotnik decides he is going to kidnap Breezy and Junior so he can examine their programming and find out why they betrayed him. He sends the two badniks off to do just that.
Tumblr media
(This Hippo kid is a terrible friend, and his hands creep me out!) The two badniks easily in doing so, but as this occurs we do get a neat little glimpse into the lives of these two robots since their introductory episodes. Robotnik Jr. seems to have a made a friend with a hippo kid, and is helping to repaint a playground (though the see-saw he is painting with a red spray can is purple...how did the colorists mess that up?!). The hippo kids hands disturb me as they just look like swollen nubs with a few holes on the sides. I think he needs to see a doctor! Also, when Junior gets abducted, the Hippo kid is incredibly nonchalant about the fact. Not a very good friend! Fix your personality and your gross hands, Hippo kid!
Tumblr media
As Scratch and Grounder catch up with Breezie, we see that she has her own talk show on TV. She is interviewing a coyote and a mouse about lost love, and I am curious what went on with these two! Neither the coyote or mouse seem particularly upset about the subject - I like to think it's because the two of them are now interested in each-other. :)
Breezie gets abducted just as she's starting the interview, and fortunately Tails just happened to be watching the show on a window TV display at the time, so he's able to let Sonic know. (I can't recall the last time I saw a TV store window display, that must have been something that ended in the 90s). We see that inside Scratch and Grounders stranger-danger kidnapping van, Junior is trying to untie Breezie but is somehow so incompetent that he just ends up tying them both together, much to Breezie's annoyance.
After Sonic & Tails arrive and rescues the two, the four of them hang out in a snowy field and talk for a while. Breezie makes fun of Junior, likely for his inability to navigate a rope, and Sonic calls her out, which a pleasant surprise as Sonic can be very rude sometimes (though the artists again do the weird thing of having Sonic show a vacant smile when he should have an expression more of concern or disappointment).  Breezie then asks Sonic if he missed her, attempting to flirt. Sonic says he did, and even wrote a poem about it: "I miss my Breezie, I miss her lots, but it makes me queasy, because she's a robot!" Wow, looks like Sonic doesn't really practice what he preaches in terms of being nice. Nobody can help what they find unattractive, but there's no need to be rude about it!
Unfortunately, Breezie doesn't seem to get the hint that Sonic is saying she makes him uncomfortable, and she continues flirting and hugging on him, even after Sonic straight up tells her that they wouldn't work as a couple because she's a robot. Junior is saddened by this because he himself finds Breezie attractive but so far all she's done was make fun of him. Tails concludes (with all the logic of a 4 1/2 year old) that Breezie would like him more if he was a hero like Sonic, and tries to stage a fake rescue for himself by Junior to impress her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Without context, it looks like Junior is giving flowers to Sonic! Honestly, if it wasn’t for Sonic’s discomfort with robots, they might work better as a couple) To Junior’s disappointment, as Tails pretends to fall into a  ravine so Junior can catch him, Sonic is already saving Tails before Junior can even get close, and Sonic ends up having to save Junior too when he loses his balance! After the incident, tails and Junior explain what they were trying to do, so Sonic decides to give Junior some flowers to offer to Breezie and he and Tails leave the two alone to talk. Shortly after they do, Scratch and Grounder return and manage to recapture the two.
Tumblr media
Back at Robotnik's lair, we see the rather grim sight of Junior and Breezie's severed on a table, still conscious as Robotnik scans their minds and finds out what went "wrong". Once he figures it out, he dumps their heads and bodies out the window into a junk pile, and prepares to go on a honeymoon with his new robot wife on a nearby mountain, where he is planning to cause an ecological disaster.
Sonic and Tails arrive and reassemble the two, and the robots tell our heroes that they overheard Robotnik's plans for the mountain - he is going to block off the river flows there so as to make sure no water will splash on his new wife Omletta and cause her to malfunction. As an added bonus for Robotnik, the lack of water flow will cause a nearby drought and make people go hungry, much to his delight. Sonic and Junior head off, and this gives Tails and Breezie a moment to talk. Tails tells Breezie about Junior has a crush on her, and she seems to be starting to have a crush on him, too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(The rivers/waterfall at the mountain were quite pretty and nicely animated, too! The water looked quite inviting.) At the mountain, we can see Omletta pampering Robotnik, as Scratch and Grounder destroy the ground under the river, causing the water current to redirect into a cavern system below. Sonic and his friends arrive, and Sonic knocks a boulder into the hole that the two made, bringing the water current back. Unfortunately, Junior ends up falling into the river and Sonic isn't around at the time, so Breezie jumps in to save him herself! It's nice to see her get to do something besides fawning over a male (though she's about to immediately start doing so again).  After she brings Junior back to the shoreline where Sonic and Tails are waiting, she seems to want to be in a relationship with Junior because "he needs her too much, and she likes that!" (that sounds like a really unhealthy and even predatory basis for a relationship, Breezie) and Sonic puts his arm around Tails saying "he understands", which makes it sound like he and Tails are a couple, too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As this unhealthy and likely doomed relationship er, blossoms, we see that Sonic is fixing the river flow caused  Omletta to get splashed with water, causing her to "malfunction" in such a way that she seems to gain free will, and as any self-respecting gal would do, she immediately begins clobbering Robotnik for creating her to be a mindless slave for him. Good for her!
Tumblr media
The Sonic Sez segment touches on dangerous playground stunts, featuring Sonic catching Junior after he's flung really high off of the seesaw from his creepy hippo friend. Sonic says to be careful with stupid stunts on the playground, and also don't trample over little kids there! I'm sure most little kids do appreciate not being trampled, so that sounds like good advice.
This episode was definitely another one of those weird "the straight are not okay" sorta episodes. It was nice to see Breezie and Junior again, especially with Breezie getting a chance to do something heroic, but the fact that she wants to have a relationship with Junior based on him being too dependent on her doesn't sound healthy. It's also kinda weird that the writers wanted to pair a robot who looks like a sexually mature woman with a robot who looks like a child/adolescent. On the other hand, we did get to see Robotnik get beaten up for trying to make a robot woman his slave, which was cool.  Now that Omletta has gained her free will, I wonder what she'll be doing?

1, 7, 13 for the meta self ship questions!!! - canongf 💗
Tumblr media
AAAAAAAAAAA @canongf AND @galaxysships!!!!!!! yall are gonna kill me you know that??? I shouldn't be given a pass like this to gush, its gonna be so EMBARRASSING!!!!!! (but ofc im going to anyway)
For Liv first!!!! -
1) how did you discover your f/o’s content? - hmmm I suppose it was in senior year of high school when descendants was popular! My best friend that I had a crush on was into it then so I watched it with her and fell in love with the songs and the plot!
7) are there any specific scenes/chapters/moments of your f/o that you find yourself going back to revisit more often than any other?  - I looooooove watching his introductory scene because its as dramatic and fiery as he is! I also love re-reading all his chapters in the 4th book and the screenplay novel! OOH and in the Royal Wedding when he's explaining what really happened at the wedding and that little walk he does with the fountain in his arms and the little snicker he gives as he pours the water on Chad's head, UGH HE WAS SO CUTE IN THAT SCENE!!!!!
13) do you have a favorite line your f/o has ever said? - GOD HOW TO CHOOSE!? I think it would be a toss up between his line in Hercules where he's bragging to Herc that Meg was working for him the whole time, saying, "I mean your little chickie-poo here was working for me all the time. Duh." and in D3 when he's being taken away again and only gets to tell Mal, "Thanks for a glimpse of the sun." and smiles at her like its the first time he's ever seen the sun
OK now on to the rest, thanks to Star!!!!!! -
2. how old were you when you discovered your f/o’s content? - I was 18 I believe! I was almost done with high school!
3. describe the first time you watched/played/read your f/o’s source content. - I probably remember it wrong, but I'm pretty sure I watched it at my best friend's house, we were hanging out in her bed and the lights were off with an afternoon storm outside. Im sure we had WAY too many snacks and she was probably giving snapchat more attention than the movie but I LOVED it
4. who was your first favorite character when you initially got into your f/o’s source content? was it your f/o from the very beginning? - Since Hades came out in D3 way later, it was NOT him, but I remember really liking Evie!!! I thought she was really cool and had great style!
5. if your f/o is from a series, were you into the source content from the start or did you come in later? if you came in later, what was the most recent release when you got into it? - Its funny, I watched D1 in high school, but then I didn't bother to watch D3 until like..... a whole year after it came out! I mean I was in college and really busy trying to figure out life so cant blame myself
6. if your f/o is from a series, which episode/movie/game/book of their source content is your favorite? - UGH I WISH THERE WAS AN EPISODE OF WICKED WORLD WITH HADES, but there WAS the Hercules Animated Series which featured Hades in almost all 65 episodes so I really got all I ever needed! My fav episode from that was DEFINITELY the Jafar/Hades team-up that was so fucking funny
8. are there any scenes/chapters/moments your f/o is in that you skip when you revisit their source content? - I don't skip anything in the hercules movie OR the descendants movies cuz thats all good eatins! But I've definitely skipped episodes of the animated series and a few House Of Mouse ones too, usually cuz they put a romantic lean on some of Hades' character interactions and im too much of a jealous bitch
9. if your f/o has been represented in more than one way (i.e. in a book AND a movie, in a movie and then recasted for a reboot later, etc.), which version of them is your favorite? - OOOOH controversial take incoming; I love the Hercules Movie version the best. CJ can sing, has the eyes of an angel, and the humor, BUT animated Hades has the charisma of a loan shark, the attitude of a car salesman, and a wit dry enough to make James Bond's martini cry. I WANT THAT ONE!!!! When I write Hades, I do my best to combine CJ's Hades and the animated Hades
10. if you could change one thing about your f/o’s source content, would you? what would you change? - I would allow him one (1) rated-R curse and two (2) PG-13 curses
OH id also have him speak Greek
11. do your friends/family know that you’re into the content that your f/o comes from or do you keep this interest to yourself? - oh im pretty sure my family knows about my investment in this character but not the level. They've seen my laptop case covered with Hades stickers and know I want to get a tattoo that's at least, slightly, connected to him, but they don't know I have this blog or about the wedding rings or any fanart/fics
12. did you know what self shipping was when you first discovered your f/o’s source content? - yes I did!! I had just a few f/os at that point, but when I started shipping with him, Hank and Seven were my mains
14. what’s your favorite outfit your f/o has ever worn? - HOOWEE SIT DOWN AND BUCKLE UP!!! he's got sooooo many good outfit designs, his gorgeous black duster with the blue skull print on the back is particularly good, but.... my fav outfit they're ever put my god in is this
Tumblr media
15. do you own any merchandise from your f/o’s source content? what is it? - I DOOOOOO!!!!! I have so much Hades merch but Im always looking for more, mainly because they hardly ever release any despite him being such a popular villain! I have my fila crop-top with blue flames and his tiny hand giving a thumbs up on the front, my Hades sweatshirt, my Hades pins, and some disney art prints!!! I have more unofficial merch for him that I've collected, but thats it from Disney corp. itself!!

Gavin's father - The Gland Prix
I honestly didn't expect Gavin to return so quickly (or at all). But with his return coinciding with Darius introductory episode, I think it's time I return to my theory/headcanon that he could be Gavin's father, right?
Eda's Requiem doesn't confirm nor contradict any familial relation between Gavin and Darius, beyond some superficial resemblance (that I admit could just be coincidental).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All we get is Darius complaining that "Today was supposed to be Me-Time!", which only tells us that he had plans, but doesn't exactly point to Gavin being involved.
And maybe Gavin was only in this episode because they needed some Glandus students for the race and already had his character design.
But now, let's look at everything with the assumption that Darius is Gavin's dad and see how that fits with the rest of the episode:
One big theme in this episode is clearly Parenthood, and through that lens, Gavin and Darius both appearing as antagonists makes a lot of sense.
Gavin is mainly motivated by trying to gain his father's approval and attention. That is probably why he's in this race, and there's a clear parallel to King, who is also trying to get his father's attention!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Heartbreakingly, Gavin wins the race, but his father is nowhere to be seen. King on the other hand loses, but it doesn't matter, because Eda is still there for him (and the viewers find out that he did gain someone's attention.)
On the other hand we've got Eda and Darius, who in this version are perfect foils:
Eda is the Adoptive Mother that clearly loves her children and is so afraid of losing them that she'd rather die. Out of this fear, she neglects Luz and King for most of the episode, something she realizes at the end. She runs back to them, knowing that means leaving behind Raine (someone Eda clearly is in love with) in a dangerous situation.
Darius is the Neglectful Father, who is too preoccupied with his job and himself to appreciate the son he has. Maybe he promised Gavin he would come to this race and was then asked to participate in this smoke out. Or maybe he didn't even care that much and forgot about his sons race.
In any case, while Eda is crying with her son, he is in some forest tormenting Raine for throwing mud at his cloak, once again only interested in his own problems.
All of which fits perfectly well with the episode's theme of parenthood.

Thoughts on every season of Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends:
Season 1 - Great introductory season. The show’s still coming into its’ own but it started out amazing with “House of Bloo’s”. That pilot movie alone was enough to let you know “oh yeah, this show is gonna be special” (I remember our local newspaper having articles about it- the day after it premiered, I remember my mom putting the front of the entertainment section in front of my cereal bowl...Foster’s was THE main story!) One of the most amusing things about it looking back are how different some of the voices are- same voice actors, but you have Bloo with a lower and more relaxed voice and Mac with a higher, more childlike one (I prefer how Bloo sounded in the earlier episodes, meanwhile I’m a little more used to how Mac would sound later on). Also I miss the “nicer” Bloo from the first season!
Season 2 - Season 1 was really good but this is when the show REALLY started to shine. Some of my favorite episodes came from this season. We were introduced to Cheese, Mac’s sugar condition, and “Orlando Bloo”. Bloo’s voice got higher and midway through the season, Mac’s voice broke. I think this might just be my favorite season of the show overall. And “The Sweet Stench of Success” is probably my all-time favorite episode of the entire series. It just has that perfect balance of humor and emotional moments that won me over in the pilot movie.
Season 3 - While still with some good episodes, this might have been the weakest season overall. While some good episodes premiered this season, the best one probably being “A Lost Claus” (which is still one of my favorite Christmas specials in general), this was also the season with some of the worst and most mean-spirited episodes of the show, like “Imposter’s Home for Um...Make ‘Em Up Pals” and “Foster’s Goes to Europe”. Even episodes that I did kinda enjoy had at least something that brought them down, like “Duchess of Wails” having a crappy ending despite having a lot of parts I liked, and “Go Goo Go” had that annoying part over everyone thinking Goo and Mac were an item, much to Mac’s annoyance, and then them blaming him for Goo continuously coming over...yeah, Goo’s a wonderful character but I really wish her introduction episode was handled a little better. Not a terrible season, but there was a much more mean-spirited streak to it that didn’t feel right.
Season 4 - Much better than season 3 with some REALLY iconic episodes coming from this season, such as “Squeeze the Day” and “Good Wilt Hunting”. Also it was nice to see Goo again since she didn’t appear for the rest of S3 after “Go Goo Go”. If anything brought it down though, it was “I Only Have Surprise for You”- like how Frankie was treated horribly for all of “Imposter’s Home for Um...Make ‘Em Up Pals”, this one does the same to Mac, and it’s just painful to watch (especially since Mac is one of those characters I tend to get kinda maternal over- he’s just so sweet but goes through so much). The whole thing felt like one of those later season Fairly OddParents episodes where everyone, even the nicer characters, are just assholes for no reason. BUT the good episodes outweighed that one and “Good Wilt Hunting”, which concluded the season, might be THE most emotional thing to come out of the series. And yes, this is the season that brought us “It’s hot in Topeka”, which is one of the most iconic moments in any Cartoon Network show. On another note...one of the strangest things to come out of this season was probably “Emancipation Complication”, where a pen that looks like Abe Lincoln and his crony sell all the imaginary friends into jobs so he can turn the house into a casino. And there’s a big musical number which, while kinda fun, isn’t something Foster’s tends to do at all. The wackier tone of the episode almost felt like something out of Tiny Toon Adventures. It’s...something.
Season 5 - Another favorite season of mine! An interesting thing about it is that it puts a lot of focus especially on Mac and Bloo and their friendship. Most of the season unfortunately put Wilt, Eduardo, and Coco on the sidelines, but they had a bigger focus in some of the season’s later episodes. I love “band episodes”, so “Schlock Star” is one of my personal favorites (”Talk to the Jeans” is still an amazing song). Mac and Bloo’s friendship is one of my favorite things about the show and I could analyze the two to hell and back, so I loved how “The Bride to Beat” and “Affair Weather Friends” showed more of Bloo’s fear of Mac outgrowing him in the former and Mac’s fear of Bloo ditching him for another kid in the latter (specifically, Mac imagining Bloo saying “I’m TIRED OF YOU!” to him was pretty heartbreaking). Another great episode was “The Bloo Superdude and the Magic Potato of Power!”, which my friends and I quoted constantly after it aired. “The Buck Swaps Here” was also pretty fun and felt like one of the earlier episodes in the best way possible. “The Little Peas” was a letdown though- while not one of the WORST episodes, it did end up ruining the end of “The Big Cheese” (of which the episode is a POV switch to Peas, an imaginary friend who was never seen before this one). After the 2006 all-day Foster’s marathon on Thanksgiving Day led up to “Good Wilt Hunting” and 2008′s Thanksgiving CN marathon (which was the only time a new episode premiered on the holiday that wasn’t preceded by a marathon of the show) led up to “Destination Imagination”, this was...underwhelming. Oh well.
Season 6 - One thing I remember the most about S6 was how Cartoon Network REALLY screwed with the show around this time. After “Race for Your Life, Mac and Bloo”, the show was taken off the schedule for months, with some episodes only showing up for holiday airings (”Nightmare on Wilson Way” for Halloween, “A Lost Claus” for Christmas, and “Setting a President” for Election Day 2008) and then “Destination Imagination” premiering on Thanksgiving (speaking of which, this was the season where THAT Macy’s performance took place. You know the one). And then finally burning the final five episodes off in a marathon on a Sunday in May (which fortunately, they DID advertise), before the show was unceremoniously removed and replaced with horrible live-action shows. And how “Race for Your Life, Mac and Bloo” actually had the viewers vote on the CN site for the outcome of the race with two endings animated for it- I voted for Mac (surprise, surprise), expected Bloo to win since he’s more popular especially with CN’s main audience, and was really excited when Mac won (Bloo’s ending would later be shown on the CN site). Other than that, this season was mostly just...okay. Some really funny episodes here and there like “Jackie Khones and the Case of the Overdue Library Crook” and “Race for Your Life, Mac and Bloo”, and “Destination Imagination” was an absolutely amazing movie that might have been the darkest and most intense we’ve seen the show (when 12-year-old me saw the “TV-PG” rating in the corner of a show that was normally Y7...that’s when you knew shit was getting real), most of the season just didn’t really “stand out” as much and felt like the “spark” might have been going. For a finale, “Goodbye to Bloo” I’m pretty mixed on. While I feel like a show like this could’ve done something bigger with a little more drama (since the show handles emotional episodes really well)...it does at least leave the door open for a continuation (and if if ever did, CN needs to hire Craig McCracken and Lauren Faust back because I don’t want a repeat of PPG 2016). And that very last shot of the house erasing itself (being the intro in reverse) and the “Thanks for watching!” drawing during the credits...13-year-old me was not okay for a while and I don’t think she recovered. Especially since a very dark period of CN followed...fortunately Adventure Time premiered the next year.
