About the silly Zelink vs Malink wars
So I accidentally got involved in a shipping war on twitter earlier and got insulted and called delusional, etc. So I wanna make something clear:
I may forever be for Oot Zelink, BUT that does not mean that I hate you or wish anything bad on you for not liking what I do. Nintendo left that part vague for a reason. Yes, there are a lot of hints that make one thing likely, but to me the connection between them feels too strong to go another path and since it's not confirmed as canon, I see no reason why I couldn't go down the Zelink path. But this is my interpretation! It can be yours, but it doesn't have to be. It's a fictional story. There is absolutely *nothing* wrong with adding your own part to it in the way you want it to be. May it be Zelda, Malon, Ruto, Nabooru, Saria (? - if you can make it non-illegal) or some OC it's totally fine and valid! It's not like you're denying or rewriting world history. And even if Canon did confirm it as different, you could still make yourself an AU or whatever and it'd be valid.
Having different head canons, theories, AUs, ships, whatever is FINE. It's not just fine, it's BEAUTIFUL. It's an example of your creativity, interpreting what the source materials give you
But I think I understand now why some people are so intense about it. Let me explain it from my own perspective:
Oot was not just my first Zelda game but also one of my first video games. Princess Zelda made me realize a lot of things about myself (gender and other things). I wanted to be like her and I wanted my hero too. At the same time Link was like a childhood friend to me when I was a child myself. So I wanted to be the princess and I wanted the hero to be mine. No surpise that eventually the knight x princess trope became my favorite and with the reincarnation aspect even more. Now I have a man who treats me like and calls me his princess. He saved me from terrible points in my life. He is my hero. To me this strengthened my love for this kind of bond even more. It was personal
But I've heard from a friend that he had the same situation but with Link and Malon and that he found his Malon type of partner. So that made me realize that ships can be a deeply personal things for some, because it reflects yourself, your own wishes, your hopes. And seeing anything go against that makes you go into defensivee mode. It does for me but I try to be civil. I try to remind myself that nothing that others do can take away my own theory. And because of that, I wouldn't want to take it away from them either. It's what gives them comfort. Why take away their comfort? I don't want to do that and you shouldn't either. Let people have their things. It's possible to coexist and appreciate each others differences. I've seen it happen.

(Anti-)Virtue Signaling
today...

...previously, in 2017:

Related: by Kenny Thomas aka. Thomcat23: "Virtue's Signal (boundless joy)", Sept 19, 2023:
Thomas inspired by a previous conversation at an Instagram thread. Kenny's work is completely original though, far as I'm concerned.

Aro/ace folks... can we talk?
I love and support y'all unconditionally, and I vow to do so until the bitter end, but some of y'all have really mean jokes and it admittedly hurts a bit :(
Let me explain.
Of course, there is something to be said about the extreme societal prioritization of romance, sex, and marriage above all else
and aphobia is a real issue both in and out of the community
but as someone who's bi, it really does sting a little when I hear shit from aro/ace folks like "lol i'm so much better and smarter and prettier than all those dumb stinky allos who only think about sex and nothing else". It feels like friendly-fire.
Maybe I'm just soft...

Remembering the time when I was visiting my hometown (many states away) several years ago, when my spouse and I stopped to visit my mom's grave, which is of course located in a Catholic cemetery. As we were peacefully sitting there, talking and reminiscing with one another, some woman literally hikes across the entirety of the cemetery and approaches us. She pretend-expresses her condolences, before handing us a brochure to visit their church if I needed guidance and comfort. (Some generic Protestant church of some sort.)
To people obviously in a Catholic cemetery, visiting a loved one who was Catholic. Legit preying on grieving people, in the hopes they are so sad and lost that they can be coerced into joining a different church.
We had to laugh when she left; it was so absurd and tacky and shameless.
At least it was nicer than the letter we randomly received right after my mom died, anonymously claiming she was going to hell because she was Catholic, and that it's a shame, but we could at least save ourselves by following the real word of Christ! (I assume some weirdo, going through obituaries to harass Catholic families?)
This is why, despite all the things I am rightfully angry at the Catholic church about, I will never trust Protestants. They have never been kind to me, even in times when I probably could have used their kindness the most. I don't hate them (I'm loathe to truly hate anyone), but let's just say they've never presented themselves very well to me.

I have 2 kinds of favorite characters. One is the precious cinnamon roll I just want to hug and I could definitely be friends with in real life. The other is a traumatized, brooding bastard that I probably would have a harder time being friends with irl.
I fail to understand why so many fandoms fight over which one is better.

If you can accept women being “butch” and dressing and behaving more traditionally “manly” but you take issue with femboys you’re a hypocrite.

"It's normal for siblings to fight" Okay well it's not normal to be extremely classist and look down on your sister for being non-conforming. Or to go to the woman who ordered the death of your pet to tell her about your father's plans, when he specifically warned you against doing so, because you want to marry the boy you saw attack your sister and her friend (contributing partially to said father's death and your sister being unable to escape on the ship he chartered). Or to think of your sibling as unsatisfactory in comparison to another when you believe her to be dead. I notice that none of the "Sansa and Arya are going to reunite and instantly have no issues" crowd ever acknowledge any of this, which makes it seem like they don't actually believe what they say about their relationship being normal and easily reconciled. People wanting them to have no issues simply because they're siblings is another example of how fandom likes to flatten complex characters and relationships. They get reduced to being bickering siblings when their conflict runs deeper than that. If the author is telling you that they have "deep issues" to work out [X], I don't understand being so adamant about ignoring said issues. I also get the sense it's about ignoring the capacity for a certain character to be flawed, but that isn't going to change the fact that her "slip of the tongue" is very likely to be revealed and a source of further conflict 🤷🏾♀️

So what houses to we think each Avatar character would have been in?
PLEASANT ASK, THANK U. Of course, a disclaimer, we love Harry Potter but we hate Joanne, trans rights are human rights and every other marginalized community she harmed deserves better and belong front and center in fantasy. Also she owes me so much personally for not being publicly a bigot before I got my Harry Potter tattoo.
Hmm.
-Jake Sully: this might be crazy but my man is a Hufflepuff. I'm telling you he was the most calm marine ever, he was the chillest of all chill, going with the fucking flow. I also think this man is ride or die loyal.
-Norm is also Hufflepuff, I KNOW I KNOW, "RAVENCLAW" you all scream. NORM IS THE MOST LOYAL BESTIE IN THE UNIVERSE.
-Tsu'tey and Max are both Ravenclaws. They are smarties with no social skills.
-Lo'ak and Spider are Gryffindors, but they can come to the Tiktok Slytherin parties. I was torn on Spider, I thought maybe Hufflepuff, but no. That man is dumb and stupid and brave as well.
-Ao'nung is also a Gryffindor but he is NOT invited to the Tiktok Slytherin parties.
-Neteyam is a Slytherin I don't take any criticism.
-Tuk is also a Gryffindor. We've all accepted like, jock Tuk into our worlds.
-Kiri was hard for me cause I am not Luna Lovegood-ing her. I am between Gryffindor and Slytherin tbh. I think Slytherin tbh. Neteyam is ambition and Kiri is cunning.
-A nice Sully family split. Spider gets adopted when they bring him home the very first Christmas break instead of letting him stay at Hogwarts and then the Gryffindors have a fighting chance.
-Neytiri is also a Slytherin (Neteyam is a mama's boy) and the war is hardcore for where Tuk will end up. Jake is chilling in his Hufflepuff corner like begging everyone to chill out but also subtly stoking the fire.
-Obv Tsireya is a Hufflepuff lets not play games here.
-Ronal is also a Slytherin and Tonowari is also a Hufflepuff. Them and Jeytiri. Their SLYTHERIN/HUFFLEPUFF COUPLE VIBES.
-Uhhh, Mo'at is a Ravenclaw.
-Quaritch is a squib.

In ftakb is Aaron being ace ever going to be brought up in canon (not necessarily the word but just showing he's not into relationships that way)? I know he has that one line where he mentions Rose's virtue being safe with him and that you enjoy mentioning things in a small way early on and come back and flesh it out later so this is just idle curiosity. Also (and don't worry about answering if you don't want to I understand you've been very busy lol) where's the book in terms of being published? Like what's the current timetable if you don't mind me asking. Sorry for all the questions and hope you've been having a good day <3
Trivia! In the first book it's not explicit because I didn't know what an ace was then.
Second book gets some much more explicit lines, especially as Aaron looks at the family tree and goes "how hard was it for people to just... not have sex with each other's spouses? Was that not an option they considered?"
Re publishing timeline: waiting on audiobook to publish all versions at once! ...I should poke my publisher about that, see if there's a more concrete date now that we've got the reader lined up...
