there was a sore feeling in lloyd's heart when they finally departed from the girls' place, one that made him long to be at his sisters' for at the least a few more moments or even just a second. disappointment dragged down his lips into a frown before he decided on shifting to make himself comfortable. green eyes set onto the stationary road beside him, mindlessly watching the bystanders in his life move along in their own without much worry for his.
not that they cared any more if they knew it was him.
lloyd subconsciously leaned against the door, tired eyes still were kept trained on the now blurry roads of the city streets while he consciously fought back a yawn threatening to break his attention. he swallowed down the yawn with some successful effort before sighing quickly after. the blond then moved to lean against the seat instead of the window, moving his head to rest on jay's shoulder who laid his own on the younger's.
the muffled and soft sound of the older boy's heartbeat calmed his thoughts, subtle but effective enough to bring him back to his very much normal-at-the-moment reality.
"soooo?" jay whispered above a breath to make sure he didn't wake anyone up (cole sat in the front passenger seat to keep zane company while he drove but he fell asleep after kai did a little after when they left the road the girls were staying). he ruffled lloyd's hair before dropping the hand to the boy's lap to hold one of his own. "how you doing?"
lloyd squeezed the brunet's hand softly, lightly purring into the jacket covering his shoulder with a nuzzle of his nose. "okay," it was a soft mumble, but jay hummed back in a delicate tone.
he didn't think his disappointment was worth the mention. of course he would feel so, lloyd only found his old friend after years and all that time lost needed some catching up. he felt something similar when they first left the outskirts, but the shadowy emotion lurked in something else while beside his thought of disappointment.
the boy peeked over jay's shoulder to catch a quick glance at his phone. jay smiled while sparing a quick glance down to lloyd, tilting his phone to lloyd to show the flashy colours belonging to edits of the secret ninja force the public managed make from the choppy clips filmed during some attacks and some better ones from impromptu interviews all courtesy of NGTV news.
jay himself never really understood why, but he enjoyed watching the silly edits of the city's ninja from time to time. it did kill time and he did have an addiction to the incredibly addictive tiktok.
the bright blues and white swirled back and forth, the edit was of the lightning ninja that switched back and forth from good old fighting to some interviews, the one in question was particularly a popular vlog, done by some kid that managed to show up at all the right times.
"hey, aren't those nelson's videos?" lloyd quietly asked, shifting to see the phone a little better. jay hummed, agreeing quietly before opening the comments and mindlessly scroll through them. "yeah, he has some of the best quality clips when yk? we are fighting nine out of ten times we do show up." lloyd nodded slightly, going back to watching whatever edit played next.
"aw, they like me!" jay quietly exclaimed with a wide and happy smile at the thought, informing the driver (who seemingly went into auto pilot for a moment) of a random comment from the following video's comment section he liked before giving it his own verbal one and going back to scrolling aimlessly. the soft phonk music turned to gentler ones and back, switching to and forward between all sorts of genres before stopping shortly and starting up again.
the feeling didn't leave while lloyd tried hard to concentrate on whatever was playing on jay's phone even if most of it was bright, flashy colours. it lingered and mixed with the tiredness marching through his body uninvitingly.
lloyd sighed again, choosing to close his eyes and enjoying the peace of the trip back home after the light began to lose its hold on his attention. the eye hurting array colours mixed with dark that surrounded his closed eyes. fortunately, it didn't bother him too much. slowly he finally succumbing asleep on jay's shoulder, still partially attached to his brother's side.
"g'night, kid," jay murmured, knowing lloyd barely heard him in his sleepy daze, before switching his phone off and resting his head against lloyd's again and trying to catch up on his lack of shut eye himself.
maybe if he slept, lloyd thought, that pit in his gut would go away?

My Army Journey
I first heard of K-pop back in 2010 when a friend of mine mentioned being a fan of a group called Shinee, a Korean boyband. We weren't that close, so it's not like she tried to show me anything of theirs. At this time, I was also trying to be less judgy about other people's musical tastes, so even though I found (western) boybands to be cringy, I was pretty indifferent to K-pop out of sheer will.
I didn't really hear about K-pop again until about 2016-2017 as someone in uni. Being chronically online, even then you were bound to come across it on Twitter. I'd see male idols everywhere and they all blended together in my brain, EXCEPT for this one guy named Jimin. I'd recognize him as that pretty one. Didn't even know what group he was from, didn't care.
At this time, my dad also got remarried and suddenly I had a younger step-sister who was into K-Pop. I became curious because this was getting a lot more popular than I remembered it being. My stepsister's favorite group was Seventeen, (cue my teasing: "If they're seventeen, why are there thirteen of them?" "Do they each sing like half a line?" "Which one's Jimin?"). When I brought up Jimin, she did finally confirm he's in BTS. She said BTS and EXO are the biggest, but BTS is overtaking. I asked if BTS are the best, and she no, but they're good. I asked her to show me the gayest music video of theirs (I don't even know why) and she showed me Blood, Sweat & Tears (The Queen herself). The video was cool, Jimin was fkn pretty, but I still didn't delve deeper.
It wasn't until mid-2018 that the rabbit hole shit happened (you know the one. You're all here for the same reason). It was completely on a whim. I saw this photo on Twitter:
Tumblr media
I recognized Jimin immediately of course. But this photo got me curious because they all had an interesting look to them and I thought it wasn't fair that I'd ever thought "they all look the same" because they didn't and I felt like I owed it to them to at least do them the respect of learning their damn names (famous goddamn last words, anyone?). Jimin, Joon, Hobi, Yoongi, and Tae (eyebrows man, as I called him) were the easiest to learn in that order. I had a little more trouble telling Jungkook and Jin apart at times. I think I had it down by the time the weekend was over though.
One of the first things I watched was their puppy interview. Crack cocaine. Watched a couple more interviews and then moved onto the beginner guides to BTS, funny and serious. Then, the funny compilation videos set to Nintendo Wii theme music. I didn't even get into the music until way later. The very first BTS song I listened to on my own was Lie. What an introduction lmao. The second was Save Me, and that was the song that made me go, "Yeah okay, they're the real deal" (I also tried listening to EXO and some other groups, but... yeah no). After that, it was just further and further down the rabbit hole.
What was important to me was the quality of lyrical content and the ability to sing live. I couldn't have become a fan if they didn't have those two things down. Little did I know, even that is an underestimation of their abilities and their journey. They constantly blew my mind as I learned about all they do. They're capable of extraordinary things.
Being involved as a fan in a powerful fandom of such a massive group has had its ups and downs, but now I just want them all to come back. I miss them together so much. The fandom's in fragments and sanity is cracking without BTS as a unit.
Next post: Shipping and Jikookery

Interview: Everything Everything’s Jonathan Higgs on AI, Education, & New LP ‘Mountainhead’
by Eric Schuster
Tumblr media
Atwood Magazine: Each album you all release has a unique style and theme. I read that Mountainhead draws from an allegory regarding “an alternate society whose existence is dedicated to endlessly growing a mountain by digging deeper at its foot — all in pursuit of a mythical mirror that sits atop its peak while avoiding a massive golden snake that lives in the pit below.” What are some of your favorite sci-fi films or novels?
Jonathan Higgs: Definitely Predator. Definitely Terminator. I like any sort of sci-fi slasher genre like that, like Alien where there’s people being picked off by a monster. It’s not very close to what I’ve written though, for this album. Yeah, I think I was looking for something that was simple enough to say in one sentence, but that could have a huge amount of different meanings if you wanted it to. I guess it would be something like, I don’t even know. It’s way too simple for a film. I think it would have to develop a hell of a lot more, but I think in terms of music, it’s sort of enough to hang everything off without it getting too complex and too bogged down with these rules of the world. It was more like, no, there’s just this big one, big idea and everything is sort of under the shadow of that rather than getting too conceptual kind of puts me off if particularly if albums get too wrapped up in detail and all that stuff. It’s fine for films or novels, it’s essential. But I think when you are making something like an album, it needs to be, the songs need to live without that knowledge. They need to be able to be good by themselves
That’s why it has such a simple setup, because I think anything, I think you can go a bit further, but I want you to keep it really monolithic and simple.
You tackle some big issues in Mountainhead, like the unsustainability of unlimited growth and income inequality and Raw Data Feel tackled the problems associated with AI. Do you see AI helping or exacerbating these issues?
Jonathan Higgs: I think it’ll help a little bit. I don’t see why it would make things worse. It’ll probably be some big tech advances that it’ll help speed up things like sustainability is the big one that everyone’s trying to do, so I don’t see how that could make things worse, but it does, of course, rely on some kind of thing. They keep mining for chips, right? I can’t remember. But there is quite a big environmental impact of making the brains of AI and obviously we’ve seen with crypto what sort of length people will go to improve their computing power and how much energy that uses, et cetera, et cetera. But no, I think it’s probably going to help bring about some of the stuff that we need to happen a bit more quickly, like renewable, wherever that may be. Some kind of advancement will probably occur thanks to ai, but it’s not just a one solution type thing. It’s more like it just looks through the options much more quickly. That’s kind of how I feel about it.
You all are very academic and methodical in your approach to writing music and creating art. Do you have any artists that you are currently listening to that are also pushing the boundaries of music?
Jonathan Higgs: I’m more in touch with what some visual people are doing. There’s this guy called Umami who makes these amazing short videos and he’s made this big long series of them and he does do music in it as well, but it’s primarily like an animation project, and I follow a lot of 3D horror guys. I mean, that’s not music either, really. And I guess musically, oh man, this year has been thin on the ground. It’s only a month in, it’s only a few weeks in. I don’t know. I’m not really tuned into anything new at the moment. I guess it’s because I’m working on other projects, I’m just trying to clear my head of musical stuff at the moment, so I can’t suggest anything.
Your website Edexhell mocked the exam quality that you were issued in school, what do you think of the current state of education?
Jonathan Higgs: I have no idea, is the truth. I don’t have any connection to people of that age. Well, my brother’s kids I guess are teenagers, but it’s Scotland and things tend to be better up there anyway. I don’t actually know. Actually, just about an hour ago I read a report saying that girls are doing better than boys at every age from primary up to uni. And that made me ponder for a moment. I dunno if that’s a problem with education, but there’s definitely something going on there, which is pretty odd. But also my mom, she’s retired now, but she was a teacher and teachers used to get it in the neck so much when I was growing up that I kind of made a soft promise to myself never to diss the education. Well, teachers in particular, I think it’s generally the same as it was. I don’t know, is the truth. I’m not involved.
Did you all see the movie Everything Everything and if so what did you think? How do you feel that they co-opted your name?
Jonathan Higgs: No, we didn’t see it. We were not very pleased with that, to be honest. It meant that 99% of Google searches for us just end up with that. Nothing against the film, but it can fuck off.
What job do you think you would have if you were not a musician?
Jonathan Higgs: I’d be in movies. I think I’d be making them, not in them. I’d be somewhere along the creative line, hopefully directing, but who knows? I could happily do that now. I do that now. I’ve directed, most of our music videos have been by me, so yeah, I enjoy that hugely.
Do you have any favorite directors?
Jonathan Higgs: Yeah, well, there’s a lot of good ones at the moment, aren’t there? I really liked Robert Eggers. I thought The Northman was brilliant. I know it was a bit silly, but I absolutely loved it. I just saw Poor Things. I thought that was pretty good. I think it’s actually a pretty great time for film at the moment. This year’s last year’s Oscar bait sort of, well, not Oscar bait, but just the things that are about to get awards in about a month and lots of really great stuff. I thought Anatomy of a Fall was amazing. I’ll always watch whatever Ridley s Scott’s up to. Yeah, I prefer, I get more excited, not prefer, but I get more excited about movies than albums recently just because I’m not, I feel like I’m so in bed with music that it’s a bit like work sometimes and movies is a bit more like I can be a fan rather than somebody who’s involved.
You mentioned that the mirror at the top of Mountainhead represents the fact that even if “you’ve got it all, what have you really got?” What is your favorite material item that you own and why?
Jonathan Higgs: Oh, my PC, no question. I’ve had a PC since I was in middle school, and then there was a long period where I didn’t have one and then I got one again and I was like, fuck, why did I have that period in my life without one? It’s the best tool a human has ever created, easily outside of the stick. It’s brilliant. I absolutely love it for creating. The power I have as one person now compared to when I was a kid on a computer is just extraordinary. The things I can make, the level of quality that you can make now the consumer can make is astounding.
This album deals with what it means to be a “human,” which is something that has been explored for centuries but has gotten harder to define as technology has infiltrated our everyday lives. What do you think are the best ways to connect with other people?
Jonathan Higgs: Sitting round a fire, the oldest one, it’s always being the best one, but if you can’t do that, then face-to-Face Place with breathable air is probably the next best thing. And obviously you can’t always do that, but doing what we’re doing now is okay.
A lot of songwriters seem to slow down as their careers progress, but you all are as prolific as ever, perhaps even more so now. Where do you find the creative energy (and literal energy) to keep creating such thought-provoking and high-intensity albums?
Jonathan Higgs: Well, I don’t have kids, so I’ve got all the energy I ever had, and a lot of my job is sitting down, so to be honest, I could use up more of my energy. In fact, a lot of my songs are about the fact that I don’t use my energy, don’t use my body. So I’ve never had a problem with that. We don’t really get, well, I don’t really get drained of juice because I don’t think making an album is very difficult. Really. We’ve done it seven times and making another one doesn’t sound difficult either. Making a good album is quite hard though.
You said it's not very physical, but that music video for Cold Reactor, you guys are out there in the cold and that looked pretty physical.
Jonathan Higgs: Well, that was a big day. We actually made five music videos that day.
Oh my god.
Jonathan Higgs: Yeah, we did all the whole album’s worth in one day, and there was a big storm that was coming into the Slate Mine, where we were. So that had a bit of a hard limit on it in terms of when we could be there. We were about to die, so that made it kind of fun.
Manchester is a modestly sized city in comparison to many other major cities in the world, yet some of the biggest and best bands of the last half-century have formed there. What do you think it is about Manchester that makes it such a hot-spot for artists?
Jonathan Higgs: It rains all the time. There’s lots and lots of venues that are good, and I think there’s good unis, so there’s good students starting bands, but there’s also this culture of music that’s already, what, forty years old, and I think people go there with the intention of being involved in music, whereas you wouldn’t get that in a lot of cities. I mean, I’m one of those people. I’m not really from Manchester, and I went there to start a band. I knew that was a place where bands could exist. It’s not like a fantastical idea that you might start a band, whereas there’s plenty of places you can go and no one will join your band. Manchester’s always been good for that. I think it self perpetuates really. Now we’ve got this culture and we’ve got this history. Then it generates more good bands.
You all have accomplished a ton in your Manchester is a modestly sized city in comparison to many other major cities in the world, yet some of the biggest and best bands of the last half-century have formed there. What do you think it is about Manchester that makes it such a hot-spot for artists?
Jonathan Higgins: It rains all the time. You all have accomplished a ton in your tenure as a group. Is there anything you still hope to accomplish in your musical career?
Jonathan Higgs: Career? Oh yeah, definitely. We want a number one album. We want to headline Glastonbury Asbury, all the things that a band could ever want. I feel like we’ve achieved 1% of it, 8% of it. So yeah, you name it. I’d love to have a whole new chapter of the band.

My conspiracy for this information goes back long long time ago, and I believe it all started on the red carpet at the moment when would really look up to Aaliyah, Aaliyah and Beyoncé were polar opposites. If you wanna think about appearances, Beyoncé was voluptuous and blonde and curvy and light skin, Aaliyah with slender, darker skin and beautiful face., they both carried that superstar essence, I have literally just uploaded a video to one of my TikTok accounts about how I believe Jay-a( jay-Z if you really cared about Allah and wanted to be with her, why would you do a whole tour with R. Kelly? That’s some libra moon shit right there. No loyalties but then woman out with you that tell you that you’re the world. I’m sorry that’s just how I feel. I know many of them .
Tumblr media
Aaliyah wasn’t going to take that kind of crap off a man. This woman was a Capricorn, son and Aquarius rising. I won’t even say that she’s a Virgo moon fuck check this before I finish it anyway Beyoncé and Jay-Z go to film the music video drunk in Love in 2013 on the same beach, where Aaliyah filmed her last video rock the boat which she didn’t come back from. She had a pain crash. Apparently she was given a sleeping tablet and wasn’t able to be carried that load it wasn’t strong enough.
Anyway to go back Aaliyah‘s moon sign is in Virgo. This is the important part, horizon sign is an Aquarius, so when you look at the rising sign which is the first house you want to look for the ruling planet of that sign and then that sign planet becomes your ruling planet in your birth chart so hers would be Uranus in modern, and Saturn in traditional has Saturn was in Virgo and how Uranus was in Scorpio, I’m still learning numerology guys so once I get back to you with that I’ll have so much more information but if we want to go into Beyoncé and Jay-Z top I’m happy to.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both these women had femme fatale qualities don’t get me wrong. They’re both air sign women, and Aaliyah had a lot of earth in her chart a lot a lot and she had that beautiful subtle quality about her. I’m in Beyoncé. She won’t do interviews anymore which I get Beyoncé is not so good with her words wasn’t it Wendy Williams he wants said she talks like a fourth grade or whatever. Yeah, TV wasn’t really full Beyoncé anymore, and now she’s gone into this element of rich with Jay-Z where they team up together and become this power duo and believe me in Hollywood. A lot of these power duos are just like connected for work, and work alone.
So outside they could be having other activity, so when the lounge got caught in the elevator doing that Jay-Z, maybe that’s why Beyoncé stayed so quiet and stood back because because she knew that he humiliation in the background as it was gonna come, and even Matthew knows, use it as another PR stunt don’t be full boy like the whole PR thing because I have only recently and like the last year also that these couples aren’t really couples a lot of the time. A lot of them can’t come out is gay#LoveYourself,SoTheyHaveToGetBeardsABeardIsSomebodyWhoGetsWithUsOppositesex partner and they stay with them to make them present straight, but really like on the side of these people are living a gay existence. A good example from old Hollywood would be Rock Hudson Rock Hudson. Obviously not Israel name, that’s another thing they change your name Hudson in fact got married to his agents, mother or sister or something like that, but it was a happy marriage because they know what they expected. I actually think gay marriage would be like really cool because you’d get treated really well over a star Phil, and yeah I don’t think it’s good for the person who has to hide the sexuality that is wrong. I’m not saying Jay is gay and I’m not saying Beyoncé‘s lesbian although there are rumours about Beyoncé, this is all I’m gonna talk on it for now but just look at it. Look at the trophy on the beach. I’m drunk in love and listen to rock the boat backwards and look up what Beyoncé‘s name means, then look up what Allah’s name means. Much love. Stay safe, XOXO
Mayo also add that Virgo rising Jay-Z, Virgo, son, Beyoncé, Virgo, moon, Aaliyah, Scorpio, Venus, jay z Scorpio, moon, Beyoncé, Scorpio, Uranus, Aaliyah. libra, rising, Beyoncé Libra, Venus Beyoncé, libra, Pluto, Aaliyah and Beyoncé, and Libra moon, Jay-Z. If you know in the astrological community, you will see how this is a bit fucked up.

Space Ghost Weekend (part 1)
Or should it be “weakened”?
Hey gang, welcome to Space Ghost Weekend. In this special installment, I’m covering several episodes of the Space Ghost Coast to Coast “GameTap” episodes. I unfortunately am bound by the same limitations as most everyone else on the planet, so I will not be watching the lost episodes. I will touch on them by quickly googling the guest and saying something about them that’s a little too abrasive to be funny.
I’ve watched the first two, and the original plan was for me to cover two episodes per post. After watching these two episodes I was inspired to, instead, cover the first “season” of Gametap episodes in one post and the second in another.
Also: I meant to post this last night, so we'll just have two posts in a row.
Tumblr media
Space Ghost Coast to Coast #89: "Billy" | May 30, 2006 | S08E01
Space Ghost interviews noted wad Billy Mitchell, the jerkoff who pretends to be good at video games. He comes off like an arrogant prick and the whole thing feels like it’s being written by a Space Ghost fan-fiction writer. Who did write these, anyway? I’m vaguely aware that these were probably handled by a different team, but I can’t find credits for these anywhere. For some reason the line “Take it from me, Billy. It’s lonely at the top.” just sounds like placeholder dialogue for George Lowe to riff something funnier over, but doesn't. Space Ghost did have one line where he says “his parents must be brimming with pride” that comes within spitting distance of a George Lowe riff, but he was probably in a room with some interloper directing him, so nothing came out right. At least, that’s how it all feels.
Tumblr media
Space Ghost Coast to Coast #90: "Rand" | June 13, 2006 | S08E02
Space Ghost talks to Rand Miller, the creator of Myst, I assume. Could be I missed it, but at no point did I register Space Ghost saying “Rand Miller, the creator of Myst” or something like that. He just starts carrying on about visiting Myst island in a comical way that would suggest he’s speaking to the creator of it. I’m guessing the now defunct synopses of each episode did that particular heavy lifting for this one, making this feel less like an episode of a TV show and more like a video clip produced for Rand Miller, the creator of Myst’s birthday party.
Did the Myst guy work on the video effects for this show? That might explain why these guys look like they are inside one of the Myst books.
Line of the episode: “I gotta talk to this hump”. I’m glad these aren’t overly reverent of the guests. That’s one thing these got right.
Tumblr media
Space Ghost Coast to Coast #91: "Kenny" | July 4, 2006 | S08E03
This could be the worst one. Kenny Wayne Shepherd, a person with whom I am completely unfamiliar with, is interviewed by Space Ghost. Space Ghost uses embarrassing slang the entire time. It’s very written-sounding and the one joke doesn’t land at any point during the short running time. I feel like when you didn’t know the guest on Space Ghost they’d at least clue you in a little bit by saying who they are so you could look into it.
Tumblr media
Space Ghost Coast to Coast #92: "Al" | October 10, 2006 | S08E04
Okay, so something I never realized until now, which might be instructive to those looking to watch these: The first three episodes are HORRIBLE, but starting with this one they get significantly better. Nowhere near the old magic of the old show, but ALMOST PASSABLE. The video quality is better on these, for one. The guests actually look like they’re supposed to on the monitor. It still feels shoddy compared to even season one. The production values that are lacking are things like being able to use library music, and the audio doesn’t sound like it’s recorded on anything professional. The writing gets a little better, too. Again, still not as good as the real show.
Also: MOLTAR is in this! And Zorak has lines! Zorak was previously shown to get blown-up but doesn’t speak or even scream. This one has a cold open. The episode has the guy who invented Pong. Episodes so far have simply ended with “Interrupt Feed”, and this one’s no different.
Tumblr media
Space Ghost Coast to Coast #93: "Steve" | Januay 23, 2007 | S08E05
This one has Steve Wozniak. There’s actually a little bit of a plot in these episodes; Zorak is looking to buy a weapon and Moltar peruses a fake eBay site. They actually drew new assets for this. Zorak winds up with a brain canon which launches his brain out of his own head, pathetically. The last image of the episode is of Zorak, looking r-worded. This was the first legitimate laugh these episodes got from me. Most of it was fairly unmemorable, though.
Tumblr media
Space Ghost Coast to Coast #94: "Rob" | February 28, 2007 | S08E06
A cold open? In the commissary!? Space Ghost has a dead cat in a carrier, and is distraught. I Forget who the guy is in this. I think he’s the one I looked up and went “oh, this is the Night Trap guy”. I hope it was accurate of me to call him the “Night Trap guy”.
Tumblr media
Space Ghost Coast to Coast #95: "Howard" | March 17, 2007 | S08E07
Space Ghost thinks the guest is Willard Scott. There’s an unfunny bit with a big fly. He looks bad! He’s voiced by someone whose vaguely recognizable. Sorta sounds like Dr. Grumbles from the Brak Show episode Hippo. Note how weird it sounds when George says “the buuug zapper ray”. Not only is the delivery strange, but the sound recording just sounds poor, like they spent $50 at best buy for the sound equipment. I did like the “no whammies” bit, but I’m wondering if they already did that joke somewhere on the show.
Tumblr media
Space Ghost Coast to Coast #96: "Wayne" | April 21, 2007 | S08E08
The idiot from the Flaming Lips is interviewed. The little sitcom plot of this one is that Space Ghost has the commissary chef replaced with Moltar, and Moltar taunts Zorak with recipes for cooking up Mantis. The Space Ghost crew sing a version of that “do you realize” song at Wayne, which is almost funny. There were some fun drawings in this, and there was a part where Zorak looked really off-model. I think it was taken from a 60s episode. He looks just nuts. The only laugh of the episode.
Space Ghost Coast to Coast #97: "Larry" (lost) | May 24, 2007 | S08E09
I am simply sorry to disappoint you, but this is the first missing episode of the GameTap era. Sorta weird that this should be a thing. Even though I’ve been less-than-kind to this era, I would love to see this recovered, obviously. They interview Larry Hunter. There’s almost zero chance I’ll figure out who this even is. I even tried to look at the GameTap website through archive.org and clicked around and maybe it’s because of missing flash assets or something, but how the fuck did people even watch these things? I couldn’t even begin to figure out where these were on the website.
Later we'll cover the rest of the episodes! How about that! And then after that we’ll continue with 2010, and I will strongly consider adopting a pithy one-paragraph format for the rest of the blog.

music documentaries are saurrrr interesting for no reason because one band guy will say one thing and its immediately contradicted by another and then another completed unrelated story is told and then cue crusty dusty footage where you cant even make out what its supposed to be and after youre done watching it you wonder what the point of all that was
I didnt know the theater of imagination panic doc existed until recently. They got brent for it and brent never talks in interviews and it was actually fascinating. He came across as very intelligent and musically driven, which I was not expecting at all. Im not an expert or anything but I did feel like it was apparent he was on something as well.
There was also a pretty awkward cut during his last scene in the doc and then he never showed up again, and it genuinely felt like he was about to say something bad about the band or their music in relation to their next record. He had been pretty calm up until that point but he was starting to get a little worked up.
The girl who directed the fever dance troupe said something like “panic have never had to work for anything its just handed to them” and she framed it in a way that was very glowing and positive but honestly extremely true
I also think the calendar business doc is interesting too because i think the filmmaker knew the band was toast and was clearly conveying that but also had to make it all feel good and kind of hide that a bit
There was also this really high production mini doc from vices era and a bunch of other very high quality longer videos that were full of like weird split drama. I feel like I have never seen anyone mention any of these ever, a lot of them were hard to get to which might be why but I was honestly very surprised given how everyone obsesses over certain photos or posts or articles. I think when people talk about the split they must only be looking at pretty odd era stuff or something
I also have theory a lot of bandom lore from like 2010-2012 is just gone because thats when people were kind of shifting from old social media onto “new” social media and fan communities were less consolidated and stuff got lost in the transition.
one also contained an extended scene of brendon and spencer on the phone with a journalist and then complaining about him and I tried really hard to find who it was and couldnt lol. Which is so incredibly and unbelievably immature to professionally film and post, I feel like so many band dudes want attention and followers and gifts and money and to be on TV blah blah blah but the second there is any heat they start publicly crying and saying its not fair. Like yeah it sucks and every job has bad parts and people are allowed to dislike parts of their job. And there are some artists who dont like any of it and want to go the more indie route or retire and thats perfectly fine. But someone like Brendon who only sings about how much he adores being rich and famous publicly whining about being asked about his band breaking up is SOOO like the definition of have your cake and eat it too.
Like you cant sing/brag about how much you love being rich and famous, sue your former friends, and act inflammatory on livestream/post dumb shit 24/7 AND still throw a hissy fit over a journalist doing THEIR job and not cooing and fawning over you and asking about your band splitting lmao

Hi it’s me again! Honestly that’s cool I thought it may have been omegaverse related but in case it wasn’t I didn’t want to embarrass myself. 😭 I blame wattpad and the fact like I really liked werewolves. 😔
Anyways! Definitely if you do post anything related to your characters I would be happy to read! They’re really stunning!
Also I was curious how you gain inspiration for your characters. I know you mentioned you put parts of yourself into their stories and/or them, but are there usually any other factors that help you figure out how they may look or who they’re personalities will be? Whether it’s a songs, lyric(s), animals, aesthetics, shows/movies, or anything.
Hey hey anon!! ᵔદᵔ
Loll tbh I kinda judged the omegaverse at first until I watched coleydoesthings video on it. She gives a very good explanation and it even got me interested soo here we are! I was a tiny bit hesitant on sharing the smut here bc "cringe" but idrc!! (This is tumblr lol we're all weirdos)
And tysm!! 🩷 I'm glad to hear that 🥺 I might work some more on the doc since I'm pretty much gonna be in bed all day 😭 probably won't get to release it today but hopefully I'll be halfway done or smth
Also, since I don't actually play the game a lot (I've even removed some gameplay mods) I've been thinking about making short stories until maybe one day when I actually want to work on a full series - once i get the lore and all that jazz locked down that is. For now they'd just be little scenarios and things that happen in their lives ᵔદᵔ I don't rlly like the gameplay so might as well use the sims as a creative medium lol
I get most of my inspo off of pinterest and sometimes other people's sims! I have a simspo board which has faces, character concepts, and even style inspiration. I also have moodboards dedicated to them, which helps me put together their overall vibe. Music is kind of a factor too, although I associate a sim with a song I already know instead of making sims based off of it. Some sims I've based off of people I know irl
I also want to work on a mini music project as well as a voice canon one :> ohh and an incorrect quotes one too! Just a silly way to understand their characters a bit better :3
I take inspo for world building as well! I'm really focusing on vampires rn. I took some inspiration from dracula, the vampyre, interview with a vampire, and various yt videos on vampire lore/history. This video explains the biology of vampires (he even scientifically explains how crosses are harmful to them!!), and this one explains their history.
For example: before the pretty, well put-together person that we envision when we think of vampires, vampires before that were depicted as more animalistic than anything. So why not have the best of both worlds!! When in human form, my vampires have very little vampiric qualities (ex. Keith's eyes have a red glint to them, the vatores ears are slightly pointed, and all of them have larger canines than the average human), they're able to show up on camera and have reflections, and crosses are only harmful to them if they're blessed. When they turn into their dark form (or "true form" as hunters call it), however, they do not have a reflection, they cannot be caught on camera, and like the old vampires, they appear monstrous.

Why do we love...
Cleo Odzer
First we heard about Cleo Odzer at Vintage Groupies Live Journal, we were into 60s models, 60s actresses, 70s groupies... and when we saw Cleo, we thought she was just in between!! she was a 60s goupie, we never heard about her but we saw in her a big smile and a face full of joy and happiness.
Tumblr media
[Photo of Cleo published in "Rock magazine", 30th August 1969]
At that post in Vintage Groupies Live Journal, there was a short biography about her, and when we read it, we thought that Cleo was very brave, independent and had a really interesting life: starting as a music columnist when she was 17, then working as a model, travelling by bus through Europe and ending living in Goa, India, being a drug seller and dealer, sent to prison in Goa, going back to New York, being clean, earning a Ph.D. in anthropology, going back to Goa...
Tumblr media
[Early 70s photo of Cleo modelling in Athens]
Reading that, and finding, as in many of our muses, there wasn't a proper site about her (well, it was her official site but the pics were very small and with a really bad quality), we decided to make a site for her on piczo... There, in that site, someone who met her, told us Cleo didn't die in Goa but she was murdered, as the entry was without name, we couldn't contact this person, but we decided to search for more information about her.
Tumblr media
[Photo of Cleo taken in Goa between 1974-1979 when she was living there]
We found a Yahoo group done by Steve, this group had two rules: share whatever you have related to Cleo, but the pics from that group should be kept in that group... Why? Well, some of them were posted by some of her classmates and friends who shared some tidbits, but we felt sorry as on the internet there were just five photos of her and in poor quality...
Tumblr media
[Cleo in Goa, screencap from documentary "The Last Hippie Standing"]
We saw there were some interviews, docs and clips about her at youtube so we decided to watch them to know more about her, and we decided to make some screencaps as well although the quality wasn't very good. We placed these screencaps at that group but the admin, this Steve told us he didn't want screencaps in his group, a las! as piczo didn't work anymore, we decided to place Cleo here just to make people aware of her existance, luckily we were sharing her and we saved all the photos from that yahoo group, as in time, that group disapeared as all yahoo groups did...
Tumblr media
[1995 photo of Cleo published in her book "Goa Freaks"]
Cleo was also a very smart girl who was ahead of her time with the new technologies, and it's a pitty all her pictures must be kept secret when she, at the videos and at her website, shared everything she wanted with an open heart and an open mind...
We really hope more pictures of her surface on the net and nobody is afraid of sharing them, it's a way to keep her alive...
Today, for what would have been her 73rd birthday, we wanted to share with all of you, dear followers, how we knew about Cleo and what made us love her.
Here we share:

Watched Mark and Jisung's Mix and Max Recording (omg it's 48 minutes?)
In typical Dream style, they had a very cuddly thumbnail
Tumblr media
The way they zoomed in Jisung's veiny arms
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Using various Dream songs for the background music did get me hype
Aw so Jisung asked Mark to do this with him
LMAO Mark being like "is this name going to be in the title of the Youtube video? if not, then let's go with INFJazz" XD
That's so apt, that Jisung the dreamer would come up with the inspiration for this performance.
AI covers are kind of freaky though. I haven't heard to any covers of songs, but I have heard people putting together AI clips to make it sound like someone is saying something and...yeah that is a little creepy that we can just fabricate stuff like that.
Jisung's just explaining his AI concept and Mark's just pointing his camcorder at Jisung thinking about how cute he looks being passionate about his idea.
Mark took a lot of words to explain his concept ^^;; He does have that habit in English too where he doesn't really get to the point ^^;;
The idea that if you can't live as a human, then you might as well end it...yeah that's the romantic in the two of them talking eh.
The photos they took of each other with their scribbles on it are so cute :3
Oh man, spending 4 hours to do the robot makeup. It looks really pretty though.
Tumblr media
After eight years, they're finally getting quality mathyung-and-maknae one-on-one time :3 Of course Jisung would find it awkward but Jisung gets cringed out easily and Mark is always So Much lol.
Tumblr media
Why did Mark make Jisung choose between Renjun and Jeno ToT What is he trying to accomplish?
Mark is so offended by Jisung's questions XD I'm guessing Mark wants deeper questions lol.
Jisung likes standing and pacing XD
Mark teasing Jisung is so cute though!!! (Saying that Jisung should try to sit down while thinking of (better) questions) Mark is usually the one being teased and he rarely teases other people, but Jisung won't do anything when he gets teased :3 It's all very cute.
Baby Dream pics!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dream are a second family so Jisung trusts Mark as much as his own family ToT
Mark: Do you want to practise once more or end it? Jisung: Let's practise once more. Mark: ...Ok Mark was expecting Jisung to end it so they could just go home lol, plan backfired.
Aw Mark filming the dance crew :3
LOL Baby Mark dancing in church wat
Jisung and Mark were revealed as SM Rookies at the same time. It's always a bit stark remembering that Jisung basically did things at the same pace as the rest of Baby Shinki, except he was 2-3 years younger than them, and it really puts into perspective how YOUNG he started.
Tumblr media
Jisung mentioned this before, that he was so shy when he was a kid and that's why he was encouraged to try dancing.
Omg
Tumblr media
Jisung started popping when he was EIGHT that's like grade 1-2 in Western school standards. To stick to that for that many years is huge.
YES! I would love to see Jisung perform Make a Wish.
Tumblr media
Yess I love that we've been seeing Mark and Jisung dance challenges :3
Tumblr media
LMAO Ending pose is just falling asleep
Tumblr media
I'm thinking how this video would be so good for the Marksung fans haha. We're getting everything, we're seeing them practising, we're seeing them do interview-type stuff, we're seeing them answer fun questions, we're seeing them talk about each other.
LOL Jisung is Mark 2 years ago aw.
Jisung trusts Mark as an authority figure and I think that fits. I feel like Jisung is the type to trust authority.
It's interesting that Jisung is more expressive in practice. In the actual Mix and Max video, it struck me how Jisung maintained an expressionless face to keep with the AI robot persona.
So cute :3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1 spoon of misery and 1.5 spoons of handsomeness for the dystopia makeup lol
Jisung does look like a woodcutter not gonna lie
Oh the dancers' eyewear is cool
Tumblr media
I'm finding Jisung's often the one to say that he didn't feel satisfied with how things turned out. A self-critical perfectionist, I guess ^^;; I think Mark is kind of a perfectionist too. We see it a lot in the behind the scenes videos for music recording. He's always asking to re-record or to try doing things in another way for a better outcome.
Jisung's shy so they often add these flowers onto his blushy cheeks :3
Tumblr media
I think Mark enjoys trying to make other people laugh :3 Which is why he gets teased for his lame jokes, but it seems the dancers here appreciate when he tries to crack jokes and make the mood lighter and happier.
Mark and Jisung discussing how they always think they can do better. I was right - two perfectionists!
...Playing with hands and fingers...
Tumblr media
Tutting...sort of?
Tumblr media
I thought they were going to do the cheesy thing where you jump and land in another spot (or in this case, land as AIs lol).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I agree with Jisung, it must be pretty rad dancing a concept with such fitting makeup & costume.
Lmao Mark loves it when Jisung doesn't follow instruction. To be real I think it's more like Mark appreciates that Jisung has a reason for not following instruction, and Mark encourages Jisung to have his own creative control.
Tumblr media
Oh man so Jisung was trying really hard to not look tired, RESPECK
I DO hope we get to see more Marksung projects :3 :3 This was so much fun. Like I said, this is great for Marksung because we got to see just how they work together, and how their relationship has grown a bit even though they've known each other for a while <3

Reasons why I love Kim Taehyung (There is more to come)
1. He has a beautiful soothing baritone/husky voice.
youtube
2. He's super handsome. In fact V was nominated as #TheMostHandsomeManInTheWorld and have won multiple times. But this is not the most importent qualitie of his. He's so much more than a visual.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. We have many things in common and one of them is his love for jazz and 'old fashioned' music in general. (I prefer listening to golden hits instead of the songs that are playing on the radio. I love retro music.)
youtube
4. His BT21 TATA is an alien prince of love (that is why this character has a heart-shaped head). Interesting fact is that when I was a child I used to send letters to some people and I would draw dressed hearts with legs and arms. So when I discovered that my favorite idol draw something so similar I was so amazed. By the way this characters intention is to remind us not to feel so deppressed about life and makes us feel special. So for me it is kind of both a talisman and a cute reminder about my childhood memories. Should I send this message to him..I dunno 😅
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
5.His unique/odd like personality (in the most cute way possible) and his different perspective in life. He can be cheerful and chaotic but at the same time he tells jokes with the most serious facial expressions(like it's not really that funny except it is) He is odd in his own way that he's really hard to understand (and yeah not everyone does but not everything in life has to make sense) For me it's 1 of the biggest charms of his.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
6. His 'TATA MIC FACE'- somehow childish look like he gets curious about everything. I don't really have to explain more just look 😂
youtube
7. His gentle/sensitive tone when he speaks. Watch this interview and You will get what I am talking about.
youtube
Tumblr media Tumblr media
8. His cute, adorable personality. I could add this to my previous post but as soon as I saw this video I decided to write this seperatly. People who have met him always tells that he has a 'good aura'. He's always polite and friendly. He has this cute, sometimes shy gestures. (Yeah I know many of us think he's not shy at all but he is and he's INFP just like me but that's different story)

Please continue to read on my part 2 blog about Taetae <3

Shall I speculate wildly? Sure, why not!
I think Sebastian Stan is a follower. It isn’t a criticism, just who he is. I also think he is multifaceted and responsive and emotional. All qualities- like empathy - that make him kind and sexy.
When he was with Mackie, his playful bromance side emerged. Not just in interviews and press, but I think he lived there. Moved in! Then Fresh. His youthful, fun life feels like a music video bop with Daisy and Mimi. And then last summer happened.
The pandemic was hard on some people more tan others, and his birthday hit hard. I think the idea of playing Tommy and that transformation juxtaposed with TFATWS transformation scared him. It is almost superhuman in the discipline it requires. His body dysphoria gets a hold. And his PR arranged relationship gets more real. Leech 1 emerges and is AWFUL for him in every way. His depression and anxiety. His fear of getting old. His substance abuse brushes. He spends the summer with her uber rich “Eurotrash” (80s micro aggression term) grossness and colossally disappoints. She is disgusting. But she is beautiful and he is in a bubble of cocaine, beer, hot sand, sex on tap and self-medicating an identity crisis.
NYC is good for him. Don is good. Jessica and famous friends help balance him. The Leech is cast aside. Now we have a more clear-headed, smart, happier Stan. I think Annabelle Is PR but those lines are hard for him. It feels good to live “here” in this space. Age appropriate, fame appropriate, red wine dog walking Sebastian. He seems calm.
Will Emmy upset the apple cart?

Chapter 3: Shattered Dream
Narrated by Yuka.
~Content Warning: light bullying~
Narrator: On Saturday night, I repeatedly confirmed all my belongings and the route to the magazine audition.
Narrator: There were no video games being played next door, no rock music. The moonlight was quiet, but I still couldn’t sleep.
Narrator: I sent a message to my father to tell him the good news.
Narrator: Later, I forgot when I fell asleep, feeling the anxiety and longing.
Narrator: The next day, I woke up before the alarm clock went off.
Narrator: Dad didn’t answer. He worked for a shipping company and might have gone on a business trip recently.
Narrator: Fluffy slept soundly.
Narrator: Only I could hear the heartbeat that had begun to accelerate in my chest.
Narrator: From the moment I left home, I had to face everything alone with courage.
Narrator: I have grown up and would no longer give up because I was afraid.
Narrator: There was still plenty of time to prepare, and I must attend the audition looking my best.
Narrator: I used a facial mask.
Narrator: I put on colored contacts and makeup following the latest trends in the magazine and brought everything I needed.
Narrator: I put on the dress I made. It was my whole achievement for designing the whole month. Pearls were decorated among the layers of lace.
Narrator: Heart-shaped diamond patches, soft lace gloves, stockings with fine lace, and an intricate hat.
Narrator: Finally, I put on the wig and curled the hair carefully.
Narrator: Three hours later, I looked at myself in the mirror and smiled sweetly.
Choose either “You look stunning!” or “Got to have confidence in yourself!”
If “stunning,” ...
You: Yuka, you look stunning!
Narrator: Thanks for the encouragement.
If “confidence,” ...
You: You must have confidence!
Narrator: Yeah, I’m sure I will.
--
Narrator: I didn’t say good morning to my bunny for the first time.
Narrator: There were several interviewers, including a young magazine editor, a designer, and Roca, a model I had seen on the cover.
Narrator: The model who was chosen would appear in the magazine with her.
Narrator: Roca became a model as soon as she went to college, and now she was a hit in the fashion circle.
Narrator: Everything went well at the beginning.
Editor: I think you’re completely different from Roca. You two may be able to come up with something unique.
Designer: Did you design this yourself? Very innovative.
Yuka: Yes, I like this style very much. I also like designing.
Yuka: Two years ago, I received an acceptance letter from Pars Design Institute, but I didn’t respond by mistake...
Yuka: But I’m now learning design by myself. I practice every day.
Roca: Wait, Miss Yuka, you said you were accepted by Pars two years ago?
Yuka: Yes...
Roca: Miss Yuka, you’re lying.
Narrator: Roca looked straight at me as if she were interrogating me.
Yuka: I-I didn’t...
Roca: I’m the same age as you. Coincidentally, I also received the admission letter from Pars two years ago.
Roca: But...
Roca: Only one person had been admitted and only one offer was sent.
Roca: So, you couldn’t have bee admitted two years ago.
Narrator: As Roca kept talking, my mind went blank, but I knew that I was not lying.
Yuka: I’m not lying... I’m not...
Roca: Why are you trying to deny it? If I hadn’t happened to be a student at Pars, you would have fooled me.
Roca: The thing I hate the most is dishonesty.
Narrator: Editors and designers began to look at me suspiciously, while Roca... Her eyes were like a blade piercing my heart.
Roca: You haven’t taken a class at our school. I don’t think you know sincerity is the most important quality for designers.
Yuka: I didn’t... lie...
Narrator: I argued weakly, but no one heard my voice and no one believed me.
Narrator: Everyone was looking at me, some were shaking their heads, some were just watching.
Narrator: Something flashed through my mind... when I ran excitedly to the mailbox and opened the very important envelope...
Roca: No matter how sweet your smile is or how good your design is, they are all fake. Like your lies.
Yuka: No... they’re not fake!
Narrator: I opened the envelope, took out the documents inside, and read it word by word.
Narrator: Those are not my memories... No...
Roca: I’m sorry, I don’t like to beat around the bush. I just say what I want to say.
Narrator: I didn’t...
Narrator: I still unconsciously repeat those words. Roca’s voice began to drift away...
Jax: Excuse me, I’m looking for someone. Let me in.
Narrator: Jax’s voice suddenly appeared outside the door, which pulled me back to the reality of the moment.
Narrator: Jax... Isn’t she supposed to be at the concert?
Jax: I said... let me in!
Narrator: I turned my head and looked at Jax, still in a punk rock outfit, who pushed away the security guard in front of her.
Narrator: She came straight to me.
Choose “Why does Jax look like Yuka?”
You: This is Jax?! The cool girl whose face looks like Yuka’s?
Yuka: Jax...

So I wanted to write about the different fashion in the Mean Girls movies and how the character's fashion has evolved. I couldn't really believe it when everybody called the 2024's Mean Girls shein girls, ugly and cheap, etc.
So I watched the original Mean Girls again :D and finally saw the musical version. And sadly, all of you were right. Who would have thought... :D
I read interviews with the costume designer, who did both movies (2004 and 2024), and kind of went with the same strategy for both movies: They wanted to represent high school girls realistically and thus, wanted them to wear clothes that would be worn by real girls at the time. For the first one they went vintage shopping, added some designer bags and custom made some of the clothes, all of the prom dresses and the halloween outfits. But besides their bags, which are mostly Louis Vuitton, and the Burberry plaid skirt worn by Gretchen with her Punk-shirt, I couldn't really find any more designer clothes...? So it's not like they were dressed head to toe in designer throughout the whole movie; this could not really be the reason why the original one looked better.
So I thought maybe the clothes just looked more expensive (the "R"-necklace from Regina e.g.) in the original movie and this is why everyone was critiquing the clothes from the musical version. There they also went for a mix of standard everyday clothes (Good American, Cider, ASOS, and Ganni on the higher end spectrum of that category) and some designer shoes and bag (pink Valentino pumps (although they looked a bit cheap), and this time more Versace than Louis Vuitton bags).
E.g., Regina George: part of her allure is her unattainability, which is represented by her clothes (and living in a mansion), wearing designer brands no one can really afford at school (although used sparsely throughout the movies), but more importantly it's her whole aura. Her clothes help her get that but she also just exudes some kind of it factor. The 2024 film included more of the actresses' personal style, so Regina is definitely a more cool, less feminine version than the 2004 Regina because Renee Rapp wanted to reflect that. And Renee Rapp is definitely cool, charismatic and confident, so I had a hard time with her not really pulling off the clothes, although they fit her, but they looked weird on her and I couldn't ignore it. Renee can pull off preppy style like Leighton's from Sex Lives of College Girls, so she definitely can make clothes look good even if they are not her personal style. This is not the problem!!
Long story short, it must be the clothes. Clothes are just made from cheaper materials nowadays (all the transparent mesh shirts and the pink corset look just cheap in the 2024 film), the life cycle is supposed to be shorter and materials disintegrate after washing them repeatedly. Although they are produced in large amounts, which reduces the production costs, brands just increase the profit margin, not making the clothes in better quality instead. Mina Le did a good video on this topic, using the debate about the wool sweater worn by Billy Crystal as Harry from When Harry Met Sally and the reimagining of Ben Schwartz from last year to compare the quality of clothes, particularly of wool sweaters.
To conclude, although the strategy of the costume designer seems to have been the same for both movies, she didn't really take into account that the general quality of clothes declined since 2004. So the same brands respectively today's brands that compare to their 2004 counterparts from a financial standpoint are not necessarily the same quality anymore. They probably needed to move one to two price points up the ladder...One reason is trends that were not there in 2004, e.g. mesh and lace do not look good when it is cheaper polyester what you only find with brands like Cider. So by keeping up with the fashion trends they would have to look at other brands. Which would be brands that middle class teens (those in Mean Girls) probably cannot afford to shop at all the time...
The costume designer should have just opted for an even more unattainable look and really dressed the plastics in high end quality clothes throughout the whole movie, going really over the top. It's a fricking musical it's what would have been expected. They already redid it as a movie, just because they wanted to, so just go buy or rent good quality high end designers to amplify Regina Georges status!!
The new mean girls movie really is Do Revenge (2022) and not Mean Girls (2024) - the latter really is just the shein version!
What do you think?

Regarding previous reblog:
I agree with both the statements: "Yasunori Mitsuda's brilliance as a composer might be overblown" and "Yasunori Mitsuda is a wizard and some of the tracks on Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana's OSTs make me feel feelings I cannot name."
I get the impression, over years and interviews and listening to some of his work, that Mitsuda couldn't handle the depth and breadth of what was being asked of him. Cracked under pressure. Under more pressure than most people can handle, to be fair. You listen to the soundtrack to Chrono Cross, say, and there are some very high highs, but also the tracks you hear most often become grating pretty fast. He's said he struggled with orchestration in Xenosaga. And as a result a lot of the areas in Xenosaga I just don't have music. All you hear is ambient noise.
He's talked about hearing the main theme of Chrono Trigger in a dream. And a lot of his music does have that dreamlike, ethereal quality. But I think most really successful video games composers have to have more conscious and intentional mastery. You're being asked to compose a huge amount of music in a wide range of styles and moods, usually in a tight time period. I would guess that even most people who can compose music couldn't do it. Or could offer a little bit of quality and a lot of meh. Which is maybe what Mitsuda did.
The rest of this is going to be personal: I took a lot of years of piano lessons. I was pretty good at it. I theoretically KNOW music better than most people. And yet I.... Don't. I know the rhythms and the notes. I know how to play. I never figured it out as a means of expression. I wonder, with YouTube and various programs and other resources, whether I would be able to learn that, now, but approaching music these days in order to make it myself makes me feel so inadequate and guilty for never figuring it out and not staying in practice that it's been a very long time since I've even tried.
I find most music criticism completely baffling. I know what music I like. I can't really say why I like it. I have no means to predict whether or not an alleged expert might like it as well, or why. Unlike most narrative art forms, where I can predict to a certain extent what critics might say about the things I like and where I have the language to agree or disagree with them, with music I just feel.... Helpless.
So the sort of thing that describes an artist as schmaltzy and mediocre and embarrassing and imo doesn't really adequately explain why or how I might better educate myself kinda makes me want to kick the writer in the teeth. Or just sit on the floor and cry.

Interview with Li Wan (2010)
Li Wan is a well-known music critic. Born in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province in 1966, he was admitted to the Department of Journalism at Fudan University in 1985. He is currently the editor-in-chief of "People Report" at the Changjiang Daily News Group. He has authored many music review collections.
Phoenix Entertainment: What are your expectations for Faye Wong’s comeback tour? Will you go see her concert?
Li Wan: I won't deliberately go. If it's convenient, I'd like to see it. Faye Wong’s concerts are, of course, first-rate.  Compared to other concerts, I look forward to Faye Wong’s. It can convey something that is not found on records. What is Faye Wong like? I have a lot of assumptions about her and I want to verify whether these assumptions are true. In records, music videos, and concert videos everything is filtered and processed. A live concert is different. Although it can also be carefully produced, the singer is in front of you and you can feel subtle things.
I am curious about Faye Wong. She is worth studying. With other singers, I just listen to their songs and I am not very interested in who they are. Faye Wong is interesting to me. I am uncertain and unsure about her. She is abstract. She has charisma and I want to understand her.
Phoenix Entertainment: After not singing for many years, do you think Faye Wong can reproduce the spirit of the past?
Li Wan: I believe that she will be as good as before or even better. Judging from her performances of "Virtues of the Silent Orchid" and "Heart Sutra" in recent years, she has risen to a certain level. She deconstructed her [singing] skills and didn't use techniques as much.
Phoenix Entertainment: Why do you think it’s so difficult to get a ticket for this concert?
Li Wan:  I don't know and I can't answer. I'm not a ticket seller, so I can't guess.
Phoenix Entertainment: Do you think her comeback is a pure musical act or is it a “cash grab”?
Li Wan:  It should be called both but this question is a bit harsh. For a singer, singing is her method of earning a living, and it is her job to exchange concerts for payment. This is very normal. Because of her profession, it is a musical act. Because she can profit from it, it is a "cash grab". Because the market is willing to consume, no one forces you [to buy], so this is not stealing money, but making money.
Faye Wong is a person who loves music. She hasn't released an album or performed in a long time. I feel that this is a long-awaited musical event, both for her and for me. It is a serious way to feel the music. Just like when you read a good novel, you wouldn't think that the author is "robbing" your money when you read it.
Phoenix Entertainment: Why is Faye Wong so unique? What do you think made Faye Wong? The opportunities of the times or personal characteristics? How much did each account for?
Li Wan: Faye Wong is unique because her music was unique. She was fortunate to have gathered music elites from Beijing, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, demonstrating the highest artistic achievements of Chinese pop music at that time. If you analyze her as a person, then I think her uniqueness comes from her persistence and integration. She had the good fortune of living in the post-1960s era and it blossomed and bore fruit in the extraordinary era of the 1990s.
Each of us is a product of history and so is Faye Wong. In the process of making Faye Wong, if we look at the whole process (since 1969~), then the opportunity of the times accounts for 100% because personal characteristics are also a product of the times. If we only focus on the part of Faye Wong's arrival in Hong Kong and gradual development into a "Heavenly Queen", then in my view, the opportunities of the times and personal characteristics each account for 50%.
Faye Wong is very true to herself. She is persistent, confident, and liberal. At the same time, she has the qualities of collaboration and integration. As a result, she entered the music industry and formed a dialogue and interactive relationship with music. This further formed a relationship between herself and the entertainment industry, herself and the record company, and herself and the times. This formed the intriguing media manufactured public image of Faye Wong that we see in the mass media.
Phoenix Entertainment: Do you think Faye Wong is deified by the masses and media?
Li Wan: That's for certain. A characteristic of the mass media is "second-hand". Vague and made-up things on the basis of "second-hand" are falsely and infinitely magnified. "Second-hand" is characterized by indirectness, fragmentation, incomprehension, or one-sided understanding.
We do not have first-hand experience and the audience even less so. They don't even have a "face-to-face meeting" [with celebrities]. They relied entirely on wishful thinking to put together fragmented and distorted information to create the image of the idol in their mind.
Phoenix Entertainment:  Have you been in contact with the real Faye Wong?
Li Wan: I have not been in contact with Faye Wong, but we are of the same generation. It can be said that our experiences were similar until we reached adulthood at the age of 18. It can even be said that there are many Faye Wongs in my life. The life of those Mao Zedong Thought in Literary and Art Propaganda Teams, school life in the 1970s and 1980s, and city life were the same for everyone. I can almost imagine her when she was a child, knowing the earliest influences in her growth process.
Phoenix Entertainment: Faye Wong has a lot of two-sided things, such as music. Although influenced by Europe and the United States, she is at the forefront of Chinese music. Although her music is called alternative, it has never really deviated from the mainstream. For example, Beijing and Hong Kong are almost completely different. These opposite cities have left a deep mark on her, such as her personality. Sometimes she feels arrogant and glamorous (to the media and the public), sometimes she feels very kind or even humorous (on Weibo). Her life seems to be unpredictable and mysterious. But in fact, she often goes shopping and plays mahjong. Which one do you think is the real Faye Wong? How do you see this “dual nature”? Is the gap between the two Faye Wongs due to over-analysis or misunderstandings by the media and the public?
Li Wan: Haha, the real Faye Wong is Faye Wong. All we know are just fragments of her revealed in public. I don't know the real Faye Wong, I'm also just guessing. But I don’t think there will be much difference between her and myself, my classmates, and my generation. She was a mainland woman who was born in the 1960s, grew up in the city, and later met many worlds. So her Weibo, her shopping, her mahjong, and her chamber pot dumping in Beijing alleys were all natural and completely expected.  My classmates and friends are like this, and they even talk like her and make the same jokes as she does.
I guess the real Faye Wong has the following characteristics:
——She is very independent. She will not go against you, let alone fight with you. But she never gives up easily.
——She has a calm disposition. She stays on the sidelines and drifts away from the outside. In unfamiliar situations, she is reluctant to speak. She is indifferent to people and things, and seems not very engaged. Her inner psychology may be: if she doesn't understand, she never pretends to understand. If it has nothing to do with her, she never engages.
——She is reliable, trustworthy, and able to cooperate. Generally speaking, she is gentle and friendly.
——She is smart and sensitive, but these two traits are hidden deep within her. Her appearance is dull, or in other words, expressionless. Her heart is very deep. One thing will be put aside until it is transparent in her heart, so what she does will be simple, accurate, and straightforward. It seems cold and arrogant. However, her actions are basically correct and measured because she thinks about it carefully and it’s natural when she does it.
—— She is casual and not deliberate. Her opinions are simply her own and she sees nothing wrong with it, and she does not feel that it should be changed. She will not be polite just to please you.
——She is lukewarm on the outside. But in her heart, she is deeply attached to what she likes. This is manifested as a lasting spirit.
——Because of the above, she has a certain degree of self-containment, self-confidence, self-righteousness, and follows her own feelings and perceptions.
——She has a serious outlook on life. She does not treat life and art like a game. She can be serious, inquisitive, and likes to explore. The meaning and depth of the world is more attractive to her than the world of entertainment. But this seriousness is not so tense. It's okay to have fun and be playful.
——Her life has always been perplexing. Her values have been obscure for a long time. Lin Xi said that Faye Wong during the "Fuzao" era "did not know herself well and wanted to understand herself better." In fact, Faye Wong in the deepest place has always been like this. She grew up with confusion and has not resolved it thus far. But she has also reached a state of peace and tranquility.
Putting these characteristics into the Hong Kong entertainment and music industry has created this phenomenon.
Faye Wong's "dual nature", the two Faye Wongs, are illusions. What the entertainment industry wants to create is an illusion. This is what the media and the public do. No one has ever answered "Who is the real Faye Wong?". If you really want to ask, this question cannot be answered by the media.
In this regard, I think it is necessary to reflect on it. We must reflect on the mass media, reflect on the false nature of the mass media, reflect on the state of our modern life and its meaning. In judgments, true and false take precedence over others, no matter what kind of judgment it is. Our lives are fake, fake in many ways, and we live in this illusion willingly, unconsciously, and happily.
Faye Wong is not a product of "conscious planning".
Phoenix Entertainment: The word “Faye Wong” is already a brand and no matter if it’s record companies, performance companies, fans or the media, they all benefit from it. In addition to her personal talent, Faye Wong’s success is inseparable from the company’s successful marketing of her. How do you evaluate Faye Wong’s “unique marketing approach”?
Li Wan: Faye Wong's "unique marketing approach" is a special case. She is not manufactured according to industry standards. She felt out-of-place in that manufacturing process.
Phoenix Entertainment: Faye Wong finally returned to Beijing, both in music and life. Is it possible to say that no matter how far Faye Wong’s legend spread, her spirit will always belong to the city of Beijing?
Li Wan: Beijing is her hometown where there are a group of people she really feels comfortable with, people who she really knows and who really understand her. This is the result of a common life experience and living environment.  There is no substitute. No matter how long she travels abroad, her core nature will not change much. This just shows that her roots are deep. Obviously, Beijing is also the hometown of Faye Wong's soul.
Phoenix Entertainment: From a musical perspective, since Faye Wong’s debut, what is her biggest contribution to pop music?   After she quit, what did she leave for the entire music industry?
Li Wan: She refreshed the taste of Chinese pop music, introduced brand new vocal styles, and improved the music taste of the public. Together with her collaborators, Faye Wong nurtured and perfected a new era style. Since Faye Wong, there have been almost 10 years (1994-2003) in which the appearance of Chinese female pop songs has changed.
Faye Wong has left behind a number of classic albums, so it is impossible to pick out one in particular. It can be said that each one from this period is worthy.
Phoenix Entertainment: Behind Faye Wong’s “infinite nostalgia”, does it also reflect the regression of the music industry?
Li Wan: I don't know whether Faye Wong is "infinite nostalgia". But after Faye Wong, Chinese female pop songs have become light-weight and more superficial. The music only blindly entertains. Those female singers will almost always disappear.
It's not all about the regression of the music industry. It can only be said that the environment of the music industry has changed and this is the result of changes of the times.
Can Faye Wong still create classics? My answer is yes, but there will be no reaction. Faye Wong will no longer have any more classics that are a symbol of the times. In our age of great change, this window only occurs once. There is no second act.
Phoenix Entertainment: From a cultural perspective, what kind of symbol do you think Faye Wong represents among Chinese people across the Taiwan Strait?
Li Wan: Faye Wong is a kind of "idol of an era". They are symbols that go beyond the scope of music and have universal popular significance. This is the most unique space that she occupies.
For example, in American pop culture, the biggest "idol of an era" is Elvis; in China, the biggest "idol of an era" before Faye Wong was Teresa Teng.
As an "idol of an era", Faye Wong is one level below Elvis Presley and Teresa Teng.
1. She was the biggest pop star during this period (1994-2003). She brought together the great figures of an era in Chinese pop music, which together reflect the best achievements of the two sides of the Taiwan Strait at the turn of the century, including rock and electronic music.  And in the form of pop music she has made the most widespread and powerful popularization to the public. This can only be achieved by "idol of an era". More original and serious music acts and creators may be more prominent in music, spirit, and art, but they cannot take on this role.
2. She was the biggest representative of China in the wave of music globalization at the end of the 20th century. With keen perception, she integrated the cutting-edge achievements of contemporary Western music into local creations, leading the trends and innovating fashion, without losing her individuality.
3. She was one of the most popular examples of the turbulent generation in China that changed dramatically in the second half of the 20th century. Her songs can be viewed as fashion items and can also be analyzed and experienced as a fruit of life.  As Faye Wong's true personality continues to evolve, the connotations of these songs are still growing.
