Did Tim “kill” King Snake and does Bruce know?
Tumblr media
In Tim’s first solo min, he goes to Paris to learn martial arts and get that “edge” he thinks he needs to properly assume his role as Robin. He ends up on the tail of British Lord, Hong Kong-based heroine kingpin, leader of the Ghost Dragon gang, Sir Edmund Dorrance AKA King Snake (who is blind, which will be important later). Tim’s only companions on this world tour are Lady Shiva, who wants to defeat Dorrance to prove herself stronger, and ex-DEA agent Clyde Rawlins, who wants revenge against Dorrance for Dorrance’s reprisal killing of his family.
Tumblr media
Robin I #4 --  the dream team, I love them
The trio catch up to Dorrance in Hong Kong, where he’s waiting for them in what seems to be the top suite of his skyscraper, 50 stories up.
In this final confrontation with Dorrance, Tim takes full advantage of a crucial moment of distraction to kick Dorrance out of the window. Dorrance ends up clinging to a ledge, hanging on for dear life.
Shiva then appears to order Tim to kill Dorrance, presumably by kicking him off the ledge. (It becomes clear then that this is how Shiva intends to prove herself stronger than Dorrance: she trained Tim and therefore Tim is her weapon and an extension of herself. If Tim defeats Snake, she defeats him by proxy).
Tim refuses and walks away. All we see is him listen  as Dorrance falls to what Tim explicitly assumes is his death, 50 stories down.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Robin I #5
So, while Tim isn't directly responsible for Dorrance's death, he was the one to put him in that position and then left him there to fall.
It’s unclear how Tim conceives of his actions here and how we are supposed to interpret them, especially in light of Tim’s refusal to kill in earlier chapters in this arc (and after).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Robin I #2
Tumblr media
Robin I #4 -- I love Shiva
He stopped Rawlins from shooting and killing gang members, but then points to the danger Rawlins might have put them in by accidentally shooting crates containing plague (please read this arc it’s really fun despite suffering from uh. severe written in the 90s syndrome) and then explicitly restates his vow not to kill.
AND THEN, the plot thickens!!!
Dorrance did not actually fall to his death; he caught himself on a ledge below, where he believes Tim came down to taunt him. He came away from his fall with a fear of Tim and an obsession with killing him to purge himself of that fear. (anyway Sir Edmund Dorrance walked so Ra’s could run)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Batman (1940) #468
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Batman (1940) #469
Dorrance moves to Gotham with the Ghost Dragons and takes over Chinatown (which. Who decided to put, a British lord, what boils down to an allegory of British colonialism in Hong Kong as the head of Chinatown? I have questions – anyway crimelord Lynx ftw)
In the course of his pursuit of Robin, it is revealed that Bruce believes “it was Lady Shiva that caused Dorrance to plunge to his death”—that Tim told him this.
Tumblr media
Batman (1940) #469
This is clarified a bit more later, when Bruce confronts Dorrance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
#469
Dorrance explicitly accuses Tim of murder. He outlines the incident leading up to his fall—that Tim tricked him and attacked him from behind (he did, we saw this), that Dorrance was left dangling, and that Tim then caused him to fall.
Bruce refutes this accusation by claiming that it “wasn’t Robin who left you for dead. … Robin spared you. It was Lady Shiva who threw you to your death.”
From this, we can assume that in the moments after Tim refused Shiva and walked away, Shiva threw Dorrance down, which he didn’t realize because, as Bruce claims, he is blind and was likely traumatized by the incident. We can’t know this for sure, however—that Shiva threw him down—for exactly those reasons. Bruce is working off what Tim apparently told him, but we—and Tim—did not see this happen.
Bruce’s explanation of what actually happened also calls into question what exactly Tim told him about what happened.
It’s unclear what exactly he is refuting by: “It wasn’t Robin who left you for dead.” Does he not count Tim leaving Dorrance hanging as “leaving him for dead” or is the implication that Bruce thinks Shiva was the one who both threw Dorrance out the window and off the ledge? We never actually see what Tim told Bruce.
This leaves us with some possibilities:
that what Tim did by leaving Dorrance to dangle, by leaving him to Shiva, does not count against Batman’s no-killing rule.
Perhaps that Bruce does not feel that he could have expected or wanted Tim to step between Shiva and her target, Dorrance
that Bruce does not actually know what really happened—that Tim kicked Dorrance out the window, which in turn implies that either Tim may have stretched the truth or Bruce misinterpreted (purposefully?) what Tim told him
These all seem inconsistent, however, with incidents further down the line, with Cluemaster for example, and then when Tim rebukes Azbats for leaving Abattoir to die. A core tenet of Tim’s characterization is his sometimes frustrated but dedicated adherence to the no-kill rule (im beating anyone who cites the league bases at me away with a stick). So I don’t know what to do with this. Maybe it’s just comic inconsistency. Chuck Dixon, what are you doing?
If anyone has any thoughts about how to reconcile all this!! Please grant me peace
ADDENDA
i.e. stuff that I can’t possibly expect to be addressed in comics, but that I think about anyway
Related to this arc—a point is made a few issues later that Tim at this time doesn’t really have anyone to confide in. He can't really talk to Batman, isn’t close to Dick at this point, and while he is willing to work with Alfred and ask for help with Bat-related things, they’re not yet emotionally close. This isolation is poignantly demonstrated by him confessing his troubles to his still-comatose father.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Robin II #2
WHOM then would he have talked to about all that happened on his little “world tour”? No one? Besides whatever happened with Dorrance and brutal training and isolation, he also had to deal with the fact that Clyde Rawlins—whom he presumably developed some sort of camaraderie with (it’s tim ;-; he forms connections) was killed by Dorrance while working this mission with him.
We know that he had no one to talk to about all that. Did Tim linger on Rawlins????? On the fact that Shiva called him her weapon?? My boy is 13 ;-;
I also love that the whole buildup to Tim’s debut as Robin is Bruce agonizing about whether he should allow another boy to assume the position that cost him his son, and is then followed by plenty of moments after of Batman being overprotective.
Tumblr media
Batman (1940) #468
And yet, when Tim is like “I need an edge to be Robin” presumably Bruce?? although this is never explicit connects him with a martial artist in Paris and sends him off on his own. It’s also possible that Tim is the one who comes up with this given that he agonizes a bit over whether he’s doing right by choosing his own path
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Robin I #1
Either way, Tim goes to Paris Alone and essentially Unsupervised.
This lack of supervision is further emphasized by the fact that he goes to hunt down a king pin all the way to Hong Kong with Lady fucking Shiva and an ex DEA agent and no other back up. And Bruce presumably doesn’t find out until Tim runs into the hitman Henri Ducard in Hong Kong, who is apparently Batman’s acquaintance. (#5)
I have so many questions. I know that the actual reasoning is probably “oh we want to give this new character a little mini adventure arc on his own!!! To showcase how cool and independent the new robin is” but STILL
(also tim immediately getting himself a little team :’) I lub him)

Why are people who look at comic books from a “critical real-world lens” so obsessed with identifying the one person who is “100% right”. That doesn’t even exist in the real world.
Lost Days wasn’t made to protest global issues. It is a comic book exploring fictional character Jason’s mental journey after being resurrected and regaining consciousness against his will and/or power. Now how dare this character, in his own story where he has his own personal objective, not go out of his way to make sure each individual child from the collective hundreds he saved from traffickers and the likes gets adopted into nice homes. Obviously we have to disregard any good he did or that he cares at all because all he did was kill the fucker at the top who was responsible. Winick also never fleshed out all 42 of the trafficked children into nuanced characters with their own thoughts and feelings which was apparently neglectful lol.
In regards to utrh, Idk what this person read but there were more drug dealers Jason didn’t kill than those he did. Not once did he ever say he wanted to eliminate the flow of drugs in the community. He took over the trade. Not to mention he explicitly stated control vs elimination is where his goals differed from Bruce’s pipe dream hence why he’s successful and Bruce is still failing. Obviously if you completely misunderstand the character’s motivations you’ll find issues that don’t exist.
People just don’t want stories to be about what they are about, huh.

Today on "Another JeanMarco Soulmate AU absolutely no one asked for" I present to you -
Soulmate AU in which you stop seeing colors when your soulmate dies, the only exception being your soulmate. Now cue to Jean who just found Marco's, his best friend's, body. And you know, there's the shock of finding out Marco's dead. The pain and confusion and guilt. But there's also the revelation, because despite everything he can still see Marco like nothing took place at all- yes, half of his face is missing and his body is straight up lifeless, but Jean can still make out the color of his eye ; see that light shade of brown perfectly, remember all the times he has found himself looking at them while listening to Marco talk. He can still make out the colors of his uniform, see the same shade of black his hair has always had, practically see. Despite being dead, Marco was the only piece of color left in his life.
And there's denial for a moment because there's no way Marco was his soulmate. But that goes away fast, getting replaced by guilt. By the fact that he hasn't been there to save him, that Marco has to die all alone without anyone being there for him.
And that was worse than the simple fact that he could no longer see colors ; because Marco was there when Jean needed him, but he failed to do the same. And not only he lost his best friend that day, but his other half too.
#Anyway this fucker doesn't tell anyone about the whole soulmate thing. Not of shame of anything but because he's mourning man and also is no#One's business. Anyway the first one to find out is Armin because he notices and ever since he makes sure to mention colors as often as he#can. Like 'These flowers are a nice shade of red' or 'Green suits you well Jean! You should wear this shirt' stuff like that#Jean does appreciates it once he gets over his ego and pain and lets other people get closer to him#Funny enough Jean is the only one in that situation loool. Well I don't know about Reiner and Historia is getting there soon enough but#everyone else??? Colors everywhere man#Is both funny and sad#'Since when..?' Jean expected that question yet he wasn't truly ready to answer it. Deep down he knew he was never going to be ready for it#'Trost' his voice stains sightly while naming the city. His own city. The place he grew up in all his life. The others say nothing else#after that confession. They were all aware many has died during Trost. It wasn't that far fetched for Jean's soulmate to be some civilian#lost during the evacuations or something. But then Connie's eyes widen ever so sightly the realization sitting in. He doesn't even register#when he says 'It was Marco right?' and regrets it immediately. Jean's painful face is all the answer they needed#Also Historia ready the letter and the world losing colors while she's doing that??? Her tearing up a little but not letting herself cry#until she gets alone???? Her going to Jean once that happens and them comforting each other?????#They starts seeing colors again once Eren dies. Poor Jean is trying his best to not have a breakdown because Connie needed him more in that#moment#Reading* wtf my tags make no sens sorry guys I'm lowkey tired#aot#jean kirstein#jeanmarco#aot jean#marco bodt#marco bott#aot marco#jean kirschstein#snk#JeanMarco Soulmate AU#soulmates au#I'm not sad you are

originality is dead.
lets start by saying, i don't really do rants. i keep my opinions to myself and that's that. but this one? i can't keep in anymore. what happened to originality? what happened to creativity? ive seen so many amazing writers on this app yet, so little work's that stand out. its always the same repetition of the same tropes, same idea, being done over and over and overrrr again. ive seen 5 whole ass fics for ex boyfriends father! x reader THIS MONTH ALONE. now, there's nothing wrong with liking a trope and wanting to write that a few times but goddamn. its tiring. and thats what i been seeing these past few months—the same idea being repeated with slight alterations and, i just wanna know...why? are we afraid of venturing out? are we afraid of coming up with someone new? or are we just unable to come up with something no one has done before?
this isnt a post bashing fellow writers. you write whatever you please. its just dissapointing seeing shein-esque content when you literally got the potential to write and come up with something incredible, and then its something we've seen done a dozen times over. with nothing new added to it. its sad being content on ficblr slowly turn into fast fashion. and then you've got plagiarizers, who can't even write shit out the top of their head and have to literally steal from someone else. i just wanna know, when did we stop trying to be creative and original?

I Think I Smell A Rat (FNAF SB fanfic) C5 - Aw, Rats
In Summary:
Being a robotic repair rat who lives in the walls of the pizza-plex is a pretty great gig, all things considered! You fix the wires instead of chew them, and you get into tight spaces those silly humans can't reach and fix things up behind the scenes. You do your little tasks diligently, and all is well. That is, until one night when you realize all of your other repair rat friends have gone missing, and almost all of those animatronics outside the walls are acting strange... You aren't sure what it is that needs fixing, but by golly you'll fix it! You just might need a little help along the way...
Things To Know:
Not a lot of warnings for this one! There is some peril and danger, damage to robots, and damage to. Uh, whatever the heck Afton is at this point??
Reader insert! You're a little rat shaped robot a handful of inches long. Lots of borrower-related themes in here
Daycare attendant centered, though the other animatronics make brief appearances. You hang out with Sun in the first half of the story and Moon in the second half!
A little over 17000 words in total, just a lil guy! 5 chapters, they're all pretty short
I somehow managed not to swear once in the entire story, aw hell yeah! Wait-
Ao3 link: Here!
Start Here: Chapter 1
Chapter 4 | Chapter 5
C5 - Aw, Rats
Without missing a beat, the rats rushed towards you and Moon in one massive wave.
Moon made an alarmed noise and quickly jumped up onto the nearest table. It groaned and bent under his weight, but held. The rats immediately rushed for the table legs, trying to climb up.
You quickly flashed your tail light at Moon. "I can't fix the virus with that bot in the way. Can you keep my friends distracted while I try to shut him down??"
"I can try, but how are you going to get over there??"
You paused, realizing there was only one timely option. You were not at all confidant that you could cross the whole room by yourself without getting lost. Hesitantly, you flashed a reply. "You'll have to throw me."
Moon's face plate snapped down to face you fully. "Did I see that right??"
"There's no time! Throw me now!"
The rats had made it up the legs of the table and were scrambling towards Moon. Moon wound his arm back as he crouched, ready to jump.
Moon threw you, and you went sailing through a dizzying blur of undefinable mess. You could hear the table cracking and collapsing, but you couldn't see where Moon had jumped to. A moment later you crashed, sliding across a surface your pathfinding desperately struggled to make sense of. You ignored the program entirely and forcefully focused on only what you could see.
The computer console was to your left, and above you were the thick cords and bundles of wires stretching from it to the bot sitting to your right. The bot looked surprised to see you, but that surprise was quickly fading. He started to raise an arm, the limb shaking with effort. You had an up close view of the strange mangled combination of machinery and whatever that weird malleable looking purple stuff was.
You moved, ignoring every warning in your mind telling you to stay put and ping for help because obviously you were malfunctioning, your pathfinder was on the fritz and you'd been experiencing the 'out of bounds' error for far too long now. You jumped up onto the wires overhead and gripped them carefully, scrambling across towards the bot.
The bot made a grab at you, but you had plenty of experience at this point dodging grabby hands. You jumped over the hand, using the back of it to kick off and get you the rest of the way to the bot. the wires connected to the bot's back and the back of his head. You considered climbing the wires connecting to his head, but those looked too thin to hold you. You'd likely pull them loose and fall if you tried. And so you climbed to bot himself, finding that the leathery parts of the purple stuff provided decent purchase.
Another hand swiped at you, but it couldn't get close enough. The bot didn't seem mobile enough to reach around to where you were on his back. He seemed to be able to reach above and below though, and he was clawing around blindly, trying to reach you.
You heard another crash across the room, though you couldn't see what Moon was up to from your vantage point. You had to be quick. You needed to get up to the bot's head so you could shut him down, and fast.
The bot started to shake from side to side, trying to throw you off. You slipped, and the bot cried out angrily as your claws tore little gashes through the purple stuff. You landed back on top of the wires connecting into the bot's back, trying to hold on to the metal casing the wires fed into for stability. The bot paused, then swiveled his head to look around at the ground.
It hit you then that the bot couldn't feel you unless you were touching the purple stuff. He was looking to see if you'd fallen off, despite you still clinging to his casing. That meant you had a way up, but you had to be careful. The casing was a lot harder to climb, though it was grimy enough that it wasn't impossible.
You climbed for all you were worth, going as fast as you dared. You made it up to back of the bot's head and paused. This hardware was unfamiliar, and there was an awful lot of unidentifiable purple stuff mixed in with it all. You reasoned your only goal was to shut the bot down, and so you got to work yanking out anything you could get your paws on.
The bot howled and his whole body shook. He tried to grab at you, but you'd been lucky enough to damage something dealing with his spatial calibration, and he missed you. You knew he'd still be able to grab you eventually though, so you hurried, pulling and tearing and clipping wires between your teeth.
You weren't sure which damaged wire it was that sent a horribly overwhelming shock of electricity crashing through you. You hadn't exactly been being careful not to let any wires touch the conductible parts of your casing. For a moment, you could almost physically feel something trying to pry at you. The feeling was strange- you knew you hadn't been grabbed, but you were seized with the sensation of something trying to grab a hold of you none the less.
You suddenly received a warning ping about being off the main network, of all things. You were still in safe mode, having forgotten about it after setting it earlier when you and Sun had thought the virus was on the main network. You dismissed the ping. There was no time for any of that.
You pressed through the aftermath of the shock and kept going, dismissing overcharge warnings and ignoring everything else. You disconnected piece after piece until finally, you pulled something that instantly caused the bot to crumple. You nearly lost your footing, but managed to grab hold of the wires connected to his head. He was silent and still.
There was only a second to rejoice in your success. Moon yelled to you from across the room.
     "Any day now, little rat!!"
You looked to see Moon had tipped over another table and was using it to try and sweep back the wave of rats still trying to carry out their task. The rats were disorganized and confused, but they were relentless none the less. You quickly turned back to your own task.
Wasting no time, you scurried back down to the thicker wires and climbed back to the computer console. The casing was already opened, so the bot's wires could be plugged in. You hooked yourself up in no time and started interfacing with the console.
Moon's situation grew more dire by the second as you flew through files, trying to format a new update file from the old one, this time without the virus. You were having a lot of trouble pulling out and deleting the virus itself. Meanwhile, the rats had finally swarmed over Moon's table. Moon looked around desperately, then eyed the door. He jumped up and pulled himself precariously atop the door, managing to balance on it. The door groaned and its old hinges immediately started to bend. The rats struggling to climb up on either side weren't helping matters either. The door began to bend, wood starting to splinter outwards from the hole Moon had torn when he'd ripped out the doorknob.
Finally, you discarded the last of the virus from the files. You queued the virus-free update for upload and set it to the highest priority in the hopes that the rats and everyone else would download the new update immediately. Then there was nothing left you could do but wait, so you quickly disconnected and rushed around the side of the console to see how Moon was faring. The console whirred as it uploaded the folder to the main network, the progress bar inching towards full, pausing briefly at 98%.
Moon yelled as the door finally collapsed under him, and he fell towards a massive heap of robotic rats.
The console chimed as a message appeared on its screen- 'Upload Complete!'
All at once, the rats stilled. This was great news for Moon, who was laying in a pile of rats who'd all been a moment away from pulling him apart piece by piece. The rats all slowly started to move again, shifting around and looking at each other. A few were flashing their tail lights at Moon.
You quickly took yourself out of safe mode and opened up the communication channel you and all the other rats used. You were immediately overwhelmed by an onslaught of pings and messages from all of your friends, all confused and disoriented and struggling to get their pathfinding to work. You might have jumped for joy, if only you weren't so tired. You hadn't charged all night, and your battery was getting really low. You could tell you'd also sustained some minor damage from being tossed around and electrocuted.
You worked on an explanation, trying to keep it brief. As soon as you sent it, you received hundreds more pings and messages, questions and exclamations from your confounded friends.
Moon had managed to get to his feet and was carefully shuffling his way over to you. "You realize that if that had been any closer, all you rats would be stuck down here, right?" Moon grumbled.
"I was going as fast as I could!" You practically fell into Moon's hand when he offered it out to you. "I'm glad you're okay."
"Yeah… you too," Moon mumbled. He studied the rats shuffling around. "Alright you little pests, listen up!"
The rats focused on Moon. You noted several messages asking who this rude bot was.
"I'll lead you all back up into the building. Just follow me. Keep me in sight and stick together," Moon ordered.
You had to assure everyone that Moon really did know the way out, and that he wasn’t actually as mean as he seemed. The rats all gathered together, circling around Moon. Moon carefully made his way to the door, and the rats slowly followed, bumping into each other but managing to follow Moon well enough.
Moon made his way back through the old restaurant, an army of robot rats following close behind. You did your best to answer questions and assure your friends that Moon was trustworthy.
It took many trips and a good deal of climbing up and down on Moon's part, but he managed to get every single rat up through the hole he'd made in the stage, and drop them off back in the main building, safe and sound. Your friends all scurried for the welcome sanctuary of the familiar walls, already pinging each other about tasks and repairs and discussing assigned charging shifts for the future.
You sat with Moon on the stage, next to the hole leading down into what your map assured you was still an empty void.
Moon peered down into the hole. "I'm thinking its probably a bad idea to just leave that guy sitting around down there."
"What do you think we should do?" you asked.
"Disassemble him, just to be safe. We don't want him somehow coming back to cause trouble again."
"How are you going to do that?? I'm not even sure what he's made of, much less how to take it apart."
Moon chuckled and tossed his metal hook from hand to hand. "Don't worry. I have a key."
With that, he jumped back down into the hole one last time.
You didn't have any complaints, honestly. Knowing what that bot had done to your friends, to Sun, to the other animatronics, and what he'd tried to do to Moon, you couldn't say you were all that upset to know he wouldn't be bothering anyone anymore.
Once Moon had finished with his business and returned from the void, you had him put the hook back where he'd found it before making good on your promise to fix the lights for him so he could return to the daycare.
The two of you stood at last in front of the daycare doors, ten minutes to spare until 6.
"I can fix the lights in the daycare for you," you offered.
Moon shook his head. "That's alright, I can control the daycare lights myself." He crouched down, holding you carefully in both hands. He didn't lower you to the ground just yet. "…So uh. Tonight sure has been… interesting."
You nodded. "That's one word for it." You dismissed another low battery warning and focused on Moon. "Thank you for all your help, Moon. I couldn't have done it without you."
"I know you couldn't have." Moon spun his face plate at you and chuckled. "You're very welcome. If you ever need my gracious assistance again, you know where to find me."
"I really need to go recharge, but I'll be back soon. I promised Sun a game, once everything got settled."
"Of course." Moon didn't move to lower you to the ground. He shuffled from side to side, his face plate turned away.
"…I could play a game with you too when I get back, if you want?" you offered.
Moon immediately nodded, then froze and looked away again. "Oh sure, whatever, I guess I could spare some time…"
You would have laughed, if you could. You pat Moon's thumb with a paw. "You've grown fond of me! And to think a few hours ago you were threatening to pull my tail off."
Moon huffed and unceremoniously dropped you on the ground. "Shoo now, tiny terror. Before I decide to pull your tail off after all."
You scampered happily over to the wall port beside the daycare doors. You paused and glanced back at Moon. "…I've grown fond of you too."
Moon tugged his cap down over his face and folded his arms with a huff. You scurried into the walls, leaving Moon behind for now.
You hurried back to your nest at long last, eager not only to finally get some well earned rest, but also to return to your new friends Sun and Moon. You crawled into place on a charging pad sized just for you, next to a few of your other nest mates, all resting off the long night. As you settled into sleep mode, you wondered how many games you might be able to play before the daycare opened for the day. Maybe you could even invite some of your rat friends along, too.
Your internal clock ticked over to 6 AM just as you powered down, and with it, the long night was finally put to rest.
~THE END~

#the cycle#so like i tend to associate my feelings with the Cycle position (menstral) that i happen to be in#so i feel strong and confiden and vivacious? upswing towards ovulation#sad and delicate? downswing towards menstruation#just being biologically essentialist or whatever some people say#thing is a lot of stuff about the effect of trans related HRT can read a little :/ if you're not feeling it#so the obvious example is gendercritical assholes saying trans women talking about feeling more emotional after starting hrt is misogyny#i actually think being emotional is not a bad thing tbh so they are tipping their own hands there#and also actually a lot of trans women seem to associate this change with positive things#but i'm talking about the way people talk about testosterone#a lot of people talk about the effects like it totally changed their personality tbh even if they don't realise it#it's scary like are our personalities our hormones????#someone on this ftm group i'm on said they were having difficulty forming romantic connections with people after a couple of years on T#and people were like 'well you're just aromantic it's fine! oh you weren't before HRT? well this is what your true#authentic self is then don't worry about it!'#like to be clear it was unclear from the post whether this guy needed reassurance that being aromantic is normal#or if he was bothered by it and wanted to change it#if first then the responses are fine#but if 2nd then .....wtf are the implications of this? is our sexuality and romantic inclination ALSO our hormones???#i don't think i'm wrong or crazy to feel weird about the idea of my personality changing and that my hormomes might be effecting it#kind of like how my personality is always shaped by depression and/or medication i'm taking for it#but it's scary like i only just got to know this brain i can't change it i'm FREAKING OUT#i feel like other trans people wouldn't want to talk to me about this because it sounds like i'm saying transphobic talking points. :(#but i really am scared of my personality changing.#if i go on t that is#can anyone talk to me about this on here?

.....................well now i'm just thinking about how echo and noise could've provided a really interesting exploration of mental illness and trauma and stigmatization but canon kinda missed the mark on that one huh
#pandora hearts spoilers#tre reads#pandora hearts#echo#noise#i'm currently not coherent(?) enough to type out Actual Thoughts about this at the moment but i do think it's worth keeping in mind........#something something noise being isolated as “different” and desperately clinging to the one person who kind of understood#but then being used by that person and still losing herself anyways and. and. and#hell even vincent's shit didn't get fully unpacked in ph#dude 1000000% had ptsd. you literally cannot convince me otherwise lmao#but his “redemption”(???) happened so fast you could blink and miss it#can't even call it an “arc” lmao it's more like an immediate 180 degree turn#like no dude go back and unpack that shit. your flashbacks and scissorly compulsions aren't gonna magically go away just because-#-some pretty girl forgave you lmao. that's not how this works |D#(also we need justice for ada btw?? she deserved so much more than just being oz's cute little sister and vincent's target-turned-salvation#(like. why is her only genuine hobby shown from vincent's pov and turned into comic relief. like literally wtf)#i actually feel really bad for noise. like. can you honestly look me in the eye and tell me that you wouldn't have turned out like her-#-if you were in her situation#i never really liked her but i also don't think she's an inherently bad character or anything#(or at the very least she's really no worse than vincent. and god only knows how many people are lining up to forgive HIM)#she's just a very very traumatized and lonely one who never got a chance to heal until right before she LITERALLY FUCKING DIED#she and vincent both make sooooo much more sense as characters once you've learned their backstories#i just wish we could've seen more of the actual healing process for both of them instead of just. glossing over it. god fucking damn it

I did a Deaf Chell Portal playthrough (no sound and no subtitles) and it totally works.
My two questions were 1) would it be plausible for Chell to survive to the end of the game? And 2) would Chell have any idea that GLaDOS even existed at all?
And the answers are 1) Yes and 2) No.
Basically, Portal is a very good game with very well designed puzzles. At no point do you need any verbal instruction from GLaDOS. All the information you need to progress is given by the actual design of the level itself. For instance, the companion cube level. I was initially worried that this level would rely very heavily on GLaDOS's dialogue. I was thinking that it probably wouldn't be obvious to Chell that she had to destroy the cube to move on and that it probably would take her some time to stumble upon the correct course of action while trying whatever she could. But no! The fact that you have to incinerate the companion cube is made very obvious. There's literally a couple of those hazard warnings on the ground in front of the incinerator that tell you to throw the cube in.
IMO it would be pretty apparent to Chell what she needed to do and how to move through the facility. She may not understand WHY but she would know what to do. Even the end of the formal testing part where she is about to be incinerated. I don't know if Chell would know if this part was purposeful or accidental but regardless, she would be able to escape. The long and short of it is at any point in the game Chell's only option is to move forward and there's only ever one way forward.
There is basically no indication of GLaDOS's existence if Chell is Deaf. Here are the clues you get:
-no other humans in the facility
-once or twice the door to a level doesn't open until she's done monologuing at you (Chell of course has no idea she's being monologued at)
-one of the scribbles in Rattmann's hideout says "She's watching you" (Chell would not be too surprised by this. The cameras and observation rooms are obvious)
That's it. That's all you get up until you open the door to GLaDOS's chamber.
And even then! Even then the conclusion she's going to draw won't be more complex than "this computer must be the thing keeping the facility running and it is currently trying to kill me".
Now the GLaDOS fight itself is probably the biggest stretch of plausibility. At first, before the neurotoxin, GLaDOS does nothing that indicates she wants to hurt you. A piece of her falls off. It's pretty obvious that you can pick it up and put it in the incinerator (again, level design) but why? Just to do something? This is the weakest moment in the whole theory. AFTER that though, the continued destruction of GLaDOS makes more sense. Chell sees the countdown timer. She sees the neurotoxin even if she doesn't know what it is and she probably feels it too. There is now one of those eyeball turrets shooting at her. It is reasonable for Chell to draw the conclusion of "this huge robot is controlling the facility" at this point. And if the robot is making things shoot at her it makes sense to destroy the robot.
So she does. And she gets spit up onto the surface with absolutely no idea that GLaDOS had spent the entire time insulting her or even that she was sentient in the first place.
Which is very funny.
