Christmas was the only time of year when he missed his home town. He missed the winter festival, hot cider, going snowboarding, and the fireworks that always seemed that much more impressive between the mountains than anywhere else he’d seen them. He’d only considered taking Briar to Colorado for Christmas for the briefest moment, before shrugging the thought off and deciding to stay in Hollow Grove. So here he was at the tree lighting with Briar nestled in the crook of one arm, her massive blue eyes taking in all the lights around them. Scout couldn’t help but grin as she laughed and clapped at a ‘reindeer’ that came past them, covered in jingling bells. “Come on, Ace, let’s go get me a cider,” Scout said Briar, giving the baby the slightest tickle before he headed towards the drinks.

she was finishing up sangcheol’s present before she receives a text from him, ignoring it for a few minutes so that she could focus on the wrapping. it didn’t look stellar, and he was just going to rip it open anyways.

(sms) yeah, i’m free in a bit. (sms give me like.. five minutes. (sms) wassup? wanna go on a run? (sms) sorry for letting you wait. 

she had gotten him a few assortments of alcohol (getting the hook up from a friend of hers) and he didn’t hav to drink it all in one go, but enough to last him for a little bit. she felt bad that he was always providing the drinks, so this was a “i’m payin’ you back but also enjoy this christmas gift” kinda thing. not only had she gotten him the alcohol, but she also included a scarf so he could stay warm during the winter season. hopefully he likes it. 

with that, she drops a note on top and tapes it to the back of the gift, texting him to notify that she was coming over.

thanks for always being there. i know that i’ve had breakdowns.. multiple breakdowns.. in front of you and i know that we’ve argued quite a bit, but i wanna thank you for sticking with me. not only you, but yoongi and also that god damn best friend of yours. by the way, tell him i said merry christmas because i haven’t seen him in so long. i hope you keep warm, and i hope we can continue going on our careless shenanigans in the near future. (no, i know we will. it’ll be fun.) love, everyone’s pain in the ass– hyejung.

fuck. the christmas rush was real. the traffic was worse than ever so they decided to walk to the mall. things were off the shelves: literally gone or messed up on the floor. it was a bad idea to go shopping on the 24th- especially when most things were gone. taemin had texted her that he still needed to go shopping and she still wasn’t done shopping for people with the extra money that she had, so they agreed to go together. 

what spotted her eye was a cute plush, unsure if he played the game (because she knew it was hyped up right now.) but it reminded her of taemin. when he looked the other way, she put it in the cart before throwing a sweater on top of it so that she would keep it a secret. they threw things that were on sale in the cart, saving and giving presents that reminded them of their friends.

as another item came into view, she grabs it and sticks it into her pocket this time-- not trying to steal it but to keep it away until christmas came. it was a music box playing the theme song of a famous movie called your name when you opened it. thank goodness it wasn’t damaged, the things she found at the mall were actually quite decent.

when they came home, she grabs a bag and sneakily puts the two items into it and hides it behind her, walking up to him and telling him to close his eyes while having an arm out. she slips the handles of the bag onto his wrist. “open it. i hope y’like it.. merry christmas, taemin.”
