1- When did you start playing Choices? What was the first book you played?

I downloaded Choices in an extremely terrifying moment of my life in late 2019. I was seeing the ads everywhere and thought that this game might serve as a fairly decent distraction. Well, I wasn’t wrong skfjksjfk

I’m not sure which one was actually the first, but it was either the default TRR or Save The Date promoted at that time.

2- When and why did you join Choices fandom?

My obsession with Open Heart and Ethan Ramsey tied nicely with the release of the second book in 2020. The lockdown allowed me to explore this fictional world further, so I started looking for more content. I found the legendary Denise, aka @justanotherrookie, while lurking on IG. That’s when my long-forgotten Tumblr account came to my mind, and I logged in with the intention of scrolling through the tags to satisfy my EJR thirst.

3- How did you pick your blog name?

Oh, dear…It’s very silly! My skin is extremely pale and I have always been obsessed with music; hence the combo.

Fun fact: this account is quite old (though still not as old as my tumbroke card; I had like three other accounts before this one), and I was slightly embarrassed to enter a new fandom with my dusty aesthetic blog signed by some ominous name, but decided to go with the flow. Then the-pale-goddess has become my brand, and it was too late for any changes–anyone who has changed their URL knows how problematic blogging is afterward.

4- Pull up the first post in your archive, and tell us about it!

My first fandom post was inspired by the frustrating ending of the softball chapter AND the first hiatus announcement…It didn’t age well. As we all know, Ethan & MC didn’t ‘talk about it.’ What’s more, we had to survive a long OH drought before PB decided to resume the second book.

Three years later, the very same shitpost is still the most popular Choices post on my silly little blog lol

5- How long have you been writing fanfiction?

3 years, fanfiction is my pandemic baby! Though I’ve been writing since I was a kid, it was mostly poetry and never in English. But as time passed, I got more occupied with my teenage life and eventually lost motivation to write. That old passion resurfaced several years later, at the beginning of the pandemic. Apart from the obvious need for distraction from the COVID situation, I was frustrated that my English skills were getting rusty, so I decided to dive in.

6- What is your favorite Choices book, and what is your favorite Choices book to write about?

No surprise here: Open Heart (the first book) and Open Heart 😂 I never tried writing about any other Choices book.

7- Share the first fanfic you wrote with us. Do you still like it, or would you change it if you were writing it today?

Miami Heat aka my smutty Miami AU. The concept is brilliant, but the execution…Yikes! I often think of rewriting the entire thing because the writing is amateur at best and my inner perfectionist cringes whenever I think of this mini-series.

8- What is your favorite fic that you’ve written?

It all depends on my mood, so here’s a list of my favorites!

9- Do you have a fic that you didn’t expect to be well received, but it was? What about one you expected to be but found could use a little more love?

Cabin Fever - apparently this 69 plotless smut is iconic for some reason? I don’t really get the hype. It has an insane amount of kudos on ao3, my other fics can’t compare lol

Burnt - Book 1 mutual pining E&T classic and one of my absolute favorites (we’re talking top 3); it could definitely use a little more love!

10- If you could write only angst, fluff, or smut for the rest of your writing life, which would it be and why?

I’ll shock you all and say that I wish I could write fluff for the rest of my life kjgkdgjkdf But since I suck at it, I’d love to be stuck with angst and a dash of smut.

It’s probably a sad thing to admit, but I feel the most comfortable while writing angst. The realism of pain and the emotions that follow are simply very familiar, and it’s easy for me to conjure up a creative image to match the idea. Besides, there’s so much to explore in the angsty realm: all the flavor, nuance, layers, and symbolism. The possibilities are endless!

Smut doesn’t need an explanation, does it? I live on the thirst street 🤡

11- Do you ever recognize yourself in any of your MCs or in your writing?

I do. That’s probably why Open Heart got me sucked right in–OH MC felt very real and relatable, I couldn’t help but see bits of myself in her. Though we share many traits and experiences, Tiffany definitely isn’t an extension of me. I poured my heart and soul into this woman, but she has become her own person and I try to avoid self-projecting into her character unless there’s a clear purpose.

12- What element of writing do you struggle with most?

Recently, I have been struggling with writing in general lol The internet is ruthless!

My biggest issue is that self-loathing perfectionist who doesn’t let me enjoy the process, nothing seems to be good enough for her, and that attitude dims my motivation and hinders creativity.

On a more technical note, I absolutely suck at describing basic movement. I could churn out a long essay on a character’s internal struggle explaining the most complex emotions or a 4K elaborate smut, but when it comes to finding the right words to portray the simplest action, like walking down the stairs or setting the scene for an early morning conversation at the hospital, I feel lost kdhdkhdkdb

13- Do you have any neglected work you really want to finish?

Pretty much all of my WIPs are neglected 🤡 But here are the most important projects I’m hoping to finish at some point in the not-too-distant future:

14- If someone you know in real life (who isn’t involved in fandoms) asked to read your work, would you let them? If yes, what would you recommend they read first?

Since fanfic is based on an existing work of fiction, and the core plotlines and characters should be well-known to the readers, I guess it could be a tedious and confusing read for someone who isn’t involved in the fandom. But then I have received comments from people unfamiliar with OH who have stumbled upon my fics and gave them a chance, so maybe I’m wrong lol

I like to think that I would be okay with sharing my works with someone I know and trust in real life, but let’s be honest: my crippling anxiety would stop me ksjfkjssd However, if I were to pick a fic rec, I’d choose Heaven Upside Down AU because it doesn’t need an extensive OH knowledge. Plus, I’m very proud of this series.

15 - Are there any writers (published authors and/or fanfic writers) who influenced your writing?

While I try to keep my writing style unique and simply mine, there are three lovely ladies who had a huge impact on my writing journey:

@writinghereandthere (aka an actual genius and my writing role model) was the direct source of inspiration behind my fanfic revelation. I fell in love with Ethan and Mariana, Ana’s beautiful prose, her wit, unparalleled talent, and fantastic characterization. Her writing changed the trajectory of my life. Though she left the fandom long ago, her masterlist is a must-read for everyone, trust me! (Ana, if you’re reading this: I miss you more than words can convey. Sorry for the spam I leave in your inbox every now and then skgjksgjk Hope to hear about your original work soon ❤️)

@starrystarrytrouble & @terrm9 - these two literary geniuses have inspired me to follow my own writing path and develop a distinctive style. Their masterpieces offer poetic, raw emotions, encouraging me to allow myself more creative freedom. I’m in constant awe of their unmatched talent and come back to their works whenever I want to feel things ❤️

16- Which one of your stories would you most like to see as a movie/series?

Can I have all of them, please?

I would pay all my money to watch a TV series based on my canon OH plotline…I’m not kidding, I even made a bunch of Netflix edits because I need it in my life. On the other hand, my precious AUs would look amazing on the big screen! The most scrumptious one still hasn’t left my head though, so you have to trust me–the cinematic potential is truly there kdgjkdgjk 17- Do you write original fiction?

I have a few ideas, but they’re so complex I’m stuck on the outlining phase. Mayhaps one day?

18 - What other hobbies do you have?

I’m a certified music freak and a cinephile. I practice destroying male egos on a daily basis. I love photography, niche sports, playing with my dog, lifting people’s moods, random unhinged facts, and ignoring reality, and I have just entered my skincare expert era.

19 - What’s your favorite emoji?

I've been meaning to ask this for a while but tbh I was hoping it'd stop before it became a regular thing, but that didn't happen... so anyway, I'll just cut to the chase, why do you keep calling the nabateans lizard people? This just feels wildly inappropriate tbh, to give a *fictional* group a label that carries such heavily antisemetic qualities. You are full on calling a group of shapeshifting dragons, one of which is head of a continental institution of power, and who hide their ability to shapeshift, an antisemetic label, and you are missing how this is actually worse. It has been exactly 0 weeks since I've seen people calling the nabateans 'lizard people' and then turning around saying they're jewish coded, and then calling people who don't like rhea antisemetic. Bc theyre 'lizard people' and therefore 'jewish'. This is literally so fucking offensive. Can you please at least come up with a different thing to call them? Bc this shit is just blasted in the main tags literally every single day and tbf it's extremely draining to see people constantly throwing that term around like it's nothing

I was debating whether I should reply to this given how I received a similar ask a little over a month ago from a notorious troll, but for the 1% of chance that this ask isn't another troll, and because I feel like it's important to put words on things, I'll give a complete answer -

under the cut, because it's long!

First of all, unless I missed a post after checking on the archive, I do not think I ever used the words "lizard people", except when it is to talk about the varying degrees of "weird" and "yikes" some takes in the fandom smell like.

If I did, however, I apologise, it was obviously not meant to make an antisemitic statement or whatever it is you think it was, as you might now I am not an english native speaker, so some idioms or association of words don't immediately lit a red light, I made some blunders some time ago and immediately corrected it when someone pointed it out (like, the word "bamboula" refers to an african dance, but the second you say "bamboula" in France you're immediately suspected of being racist, because it was used as a common slur in the 1910s and is still used in some, uh, far right conventions, I guess). If you have a post in mind, then feel free to share, and I'll edit it accordingly!

The tag I use for general Nabatean content is "lizard family time?".

Now, as you can guess after, I supposed, reading this blog and especially, content tagged with this, well, tag, I use it to tag cute/warm/random/fluffy artwork, headcanons, shitposts and whatnot. As the name suggest, I use it to tag content I like about Nabateans acting like a family.

As for, I supposed, the "lizard" mention that might make people confused, Nabateans are a race of fictional people in a fictional game who can turn in giant beasts, all beasts we have seen so far have reptile-like qualities or are, generally speaking, from the reptile family (a dragon, a turtle, and a... bird/griffin thing). Now, calling them "reptilians" felt a bit too close to a slur, but there were harmless jokes around about Rhea, because of her draconic form, having cold blood thus liking to sit on warm rocks, and I found it cute, thus I adopted the "lizard fam" denomination, and ended up with the "lizard family time?" tag.

Short story, long story : this tag is obvioulsy not meant to convey anti-semitic theories and thoughts about real people in real life, but to tag content about a fantasy race of shapeshifters who sometimes shift in giant reptiles who act as a familial cell.

Which brings me to my second point -

(and one I already developed a bit in the previous post)

Fire Emblem is a series who always had fantasy "humans" interact with another fantasy race of people being able to turn in other creatures, mostly dragons.

Fire Emblem Fodlan's take on those creatures is :

People who were genocided,

People racially profiled by their enemies who had a hand in said genocide,

People who hide those traits,

People who are religious,

People who are depicted by someone as ruling over the world in secret,

People who are depicted by the same someone as "hoarding money" and deceiving everyone,

People whose blood, according to the same someone's rhetoric, corrupts humanity and is the reason why the World sucks,

People who are constantly othered by their enemies, who cannot see them as being able to live with them, nor having "human feelings" because of their race,

The someone mentionned above comes from a country that names its people with names and surnames (and evern particles!) kind of similar to a real world country.

I do not think the developers of this game wanted to make a "Godwin Points : the Game" version of Fire Emblem, but there are a lot of clues someone who knows even very little of the recent World's History might catch and compare to, well, some events that happened.

As such, I do not think me calling Nabateans "lizard family" is an antisemitic label or calling them "lizards" is the only reason why, to some people, Nabateans are "jewish coded", to borrow your own words. I just made a bullet list of other "reasons" who might lead some people to believe this.

Anyways, I always advocate against insulting people or giving them labels based on their opinions about a bunch of pixels from a fantasy universe, so you can dislike Nabateans and not be called anti-semitic, just like you can not vote for a female character in a harmless poll and not be called a misogynist, just like you can like a bisexual character and not be called a homophobe, etc, etc.

Racism, homophobia, sexism, ableism, antisemitism... are real-life legal concepts and notions that exist and encompass real situations, with real people, and real consequences.

Suggesting I might be anti-semitic because I quote Zephia call the Divine Dragon Alear a "lizard" is ridiculous, when we all know, even you, who sent this ask, what anti-semitism is and what it entails in real life for real people who are subjected to it.

Using real life notions and legal concepts to defend a bunch of pixels is puerile and ultimately says more about the one who is using those notions, thinking they can be easily distorted and used to talk about fantasy characters from a video game made by devs who forgot to hire a continuity guy, than whatever point he wanted to make.

As such, I do not think calling fantasy men and women who can transform in dragons/turtles/griffins-bird things "lizards" is offensive, but bringing up real-life discriminations and situations people are experiencing as we speak, to win an internet argument over fictional characters, is, imho, offensive.

If you do not agree, then you are free to block this blog and the contents I post (curate your Tumblr experience, the block button is here for that!), you can even report it to whoever is in charge of moderating this platform ; I do not think I breached any ToS and if I did, I would much prefer the Tumblr staff to tell me how and why, than someone who sends a message via anon asks who is, from what I can deduce from your ask, annoyed at seeing opinions - as smelly as they can be - about a video game.

Twitter folk having a fit because they don't understand Tumblr humor and are complaining about it. And it's really funny to me 🤣

I mean, even RJ Palmer is annoyed by the Goncharov tag doing its rounds in Twitter, like c'mon:

Funny how twitterites are the first to remind you that you can mute words and block people in the bird app so you don't see content that isn't to your interest. But then don't apply it themselves when something they don't like pops up in their timeline. Figures.

Oh, imagine that, a shitpost became viral and people are engaging with it. Oh, god. Oh no. It left its target audience, the horror.

How dare we steal Twitter's thing, they are the only ones that can create viral memes :c

And we get to the yikes. Twitterify Tumblr? No thank you.

If something's been clear since I joined this site is that we'd rather sink our own ship than letting that happen. Why? Because Twitter interactions and user culture are goddamn awful (save some reaally curated spaces). For a place with such a limited conversation format, there's a lot of vileness and vitriol running rampant in that site. Word your message a little off or lean a little left and hordes of sanctimonious twitterites can come get your ass and make you the villain. No matter if what you tweeted was harmless, everything can get misconstrued for the sake of it. They will dig up shit you posted years ago (or make it up) to sell the idea that you're an irredeemable monster of some sort and the real people behind the profile (or their careers) can get endangered. Except for true villains, those get idolized. And with the muskrat's takeover, those people are more protected and unhinged than ever.

And also because of that same limited communication format, trends in Twitter tend to be fleeting and unimportant in a matter of hours, whereas here trends can mature and become part of the users culture. That's why Tumblr self-references itself all the time. And that's why it's so hard to engage when you first arrive to the site. The Goncharov phenomenon is only the latest example of the inner workings of Tumblr but twitterites are acting as if we personally went and kicked them in the sheens. Or forced them to watch it unfold, Clockwork Orange style.

Anyway, I rarely post about things like this and I'm certainly not wanting to pick a fight over which site is better, but this thread really made me chuckle. I like both sites because they are different experiences and allow for different ways to engage with the world, but the truth is the bird app becomes exhausting very, very quick. And I think that the fact Twitter wants everything else to run like, well, Twitter, is rather disingenuous on their part, lol.

Why did you choose your url?

Naming things is hard. I smashed my first and last name together, minus the “te” in the middle. I googled to make sure it wasn’t anything awful. I think I first used this name on Poshmark (Mercari?), but I think its origin was realizing that when you put my first initial and my last name together you get...well...it’s not good. Yikes.

How long have you been on tumblr?

This go-around, about a year. I used to be very active on tumblr way back though, in maybe 2009-2012. Remember tumblarity?

Why did you start your blog in the first place?

Stresssssss. I was dealing with all kinds of real-life stuff and just playing TS2 wasn’t enough of a distraction, so I got back into creating. I needed somewhere to share my stuff, so here we are. It helps so much!

Why did you choose your icon/pfp?

That’s Self Sim, wearing an awesome thing I wish I had the energy to wear. I own things that are kinda similar, but I’m too tired to get done up. Plus, I never go anywhere, because pandemic.

Why did you choose your header?

I don’t have one. The default one they gave me is fine. Gray is nice.

What’s your post with the most notes?

Gonna have to check. (Goes and checks.) Looks like it’s the EP11 jumpsuit for toddlers. It *just* squeaked past the EP11 shortalls conversions for PU and CU, by two notes.

I’m gonna be starstruck forever that DeeDee and MDP both follow me, and tend to be among the first to like my new posts. I’m happy when anyone who I follow follows me back though. It’s like “Oh! Hey you! Thanks!”

Like a crush crush? I don’t know what any of them look like really...and I feel like I’m older than a lot of them. Plus, I have a partner.

Introduction

Hi! My name is Cupcake!

I am 20 and go by all pronouns including it/its and neos. I use this blog to post my art and hopefully document the progress I make over time.

Get to know more under the cut!

I am a beginner so please don't be too judgemental. I will probably post more of my digital works rather than traditional but expect both. This place is art only but I am open to chat too if anyone is ever interested in stuff lol

I am Hungarian so English is not my first language, so please excuse any mistakes I make and feel free to correct me. I welcome constructive critisism about how I type more than about what I make /lhj

I am neurodivergent and have a handful of symptoms I am still making sense of so you may see me use tone tags. I won't force anyone to use them but I may ask for clarification at times since I am a little slow.

My current interests are Cookie Run, Arcane, Batfam, FNAF, TMNT and Undertale so I will probably post art about those the most. I usually make shitposts, memes or sketches/edits tho.
