i am still battling through my young dracula hyper fixation so to anyone who even still thinks about young dracula have this balls to the wall unhinged thing my brain spawned that if i had the energy (& if i actually thought i could do a decent job of writing vlad) would butcher into a fanfic:

vlad goes back to the dreamworld except he gets yeeted through a dracula multiverse where he meets versions of count dracula from 1931-2023 & after being scarred for unlife & after realises just how good he's got it.

the poll option "vampire/human pet" caused a thought to spring into my brain: when you're socialising feral kittens, one of the main ways you can get them used to being around people is by always being present during mealtimes, because the kittens usually want food more than they care about a person being a few feet away, and you can steadily get closer and pet them while they eat and it makes them learn that humans aren't a threat and will provide food. in the book, dracula sits with jonathan for most if not every meal even though he himself doesn't eat food, and the idea that it's a centuries old vampire trying to acclimate his human guest to his presence in the same way you would a stray kitten you found outside is hilarious to me

oh sick! I love Frankenstein!! read it last year for school and wrote sooo many essays on it it was fabulous

It's incredibly sick! It's diseased and unhealthy! It's downright unwell!

My school for all it's benefits is a little bit horrible at exposing us to the classics so I'm taking it upon myself to read them on my own time, and the Frankenstein emails are just add a little fun to it all! It's nice to get to see others' thought and to supplement my own conclusions and thinking with that from others. Maybe I should join a book club hmm.

Anyway, I will not be writing any essays for any classes over Frankenstein--unless it comes up in a later college class, but for now I will be enjoying the experience :)

I started watching Young Dracula on CBBC when I was like 5 and that definitely sparked my initial love. But then I got into True Blood and the Anita Blake Series when I was 8 and that really kick-started my absolute obsession. I've never been the same since lol.

So, when my book series got likened to the Anita Blake series and True Blood, it really felt like my childhood vampire fantasy had come true hehe.

I revisited Werther recently and it's insane how well it holds up & how it remains one of the very rare examples of a love triangle actually being executed WELL. The fact that Lotte is decidedly not miserable with Albert paired with the deep friendship between Werther and Albert makes the whole thing sooo much more tragic because Werther can never say "Lotte should be with me because Albert makes her unhappy!" with full conviction because he loves Albert and he knows that Lotte does, too. The digital adaption Werther.Live that was popular a while ago turns the Albert/Lotte relationship into a "he doesn't really get me but I stay with him because it's comfortable" situation and completely takes out the friendship between the two men and the fact that the adaption sucks (imo) really shows how vital the nuance in the relationship(s) is to the impact of the story. It's really all about the "Einer von uns dreien muss fort". Maybe Polyamory would have fixed things (but Werther is a lil too possessive I fear). Anyway, I love you blogging about Werther because it's such a great classic <3 keep it up!!!

Hi!! So great to get Werther messages in the year of our lord 2022! I like my own echo chamber but I like it even more when somebody joins me in it for 5 minutes :D

It's been a long time since I completely read Werther because I only read it when I was about 15 and then again in my first year of uni. I also saw a stage adaptation as a teen that had five (5) separate Werthers who eventually stripped on stage and transformed a whole theatre of hormonal teens into pandemonium. It was one of The Best Theatre Nights of my life sdskdskldjs. So slowly working my way through it for Werther Rewritten is a good experience because I'm finally Werther's age now and understand him now on a more personal level. Like, him going on about work etc., mood. I also like how the love triangle can be read & executed from multiple angles because Werther chooses the unusual angle of epistolary writing by only including his own letters and not Wilhelm's, so he can be in fact an unreliable narrator, and remakes can take him completely at face value and write a Lotte that is engaged for purely practical reasons, or a Lotte that is wholly grounded and in love with Albert and notices that Werther's love for her is more about himself than it is for her. The truth can fall anywhere in the middle of these two readings.

I don't consider any of those readings as inferior, because Lotte's charm for me consists in her character and not necessarily in which man truly has her heart. Maybe both of them do, maybe none of them do. Werther is about a lot of things and gender roles don't fall too short either. Again, it's been a long time since I completely read it, but her character feels very warm and human and alive to me, and I can't wait until it's her time to shine, and Albert's too, whose character completely faded into the background for me. I will think about a polyamorous spin if the text allows for it. Also I will stay away from that presumably shitty adaptation then, thanks for the headsup!

10. What work was the quickest to write?

I've had a lot of one session fics this year but don't touch the marble wins because not only was it a one session fic, it also has a solid plot line where new and original things happen. orym and will of the air ashari get to meet the very annoying de rolo children (and get trapped in a magic marble)

23. Did you do any collaborative works this year?

YES! Bobert and I (that's you!) and also @silvermagpies did the a minivan named the revenge series for ofmd. It was big fun and I liked it a lot. turns out I love having someone else to write conflict and plot and drama whilst I do the surrealism. let's do it again!

30. Biggest surprise while writing this year?

I think my biggest surprise is that people still read young Dracula fic. I wrote life and undeath entirely for myself but people like it! Even though it's for a long forgotten CBBC show from the naughties/early tens
