A Ziam proposal?

The air was warm, sun setting, turning the sky to a dark purple shade. The quiet hum of cicadas and the song of the crickets made it all that more peaceful.

Liam and Zayn stood upon the hill, high enough to overlook the park, ponds, and gardens. A breeze blew so gently, just hardly beginning to sway the branches of trees. It was a perfect night.

"Remember when we first came here?" Zayn asked, head pressed against Liam's shoulder.

"Like it was yesterday," Liam answered with a grin, the memories somehow making his mood better than it already was.

"We were just kids. Not even graduated yet. Now look at us," Liam continued. "We've come so far, Zayn. And I wouldn't trade this for the world. This time I've spent with you since then has been the best of my life."

Zayn lifted his head, giving Liam the perfect chance to pull out a box, carefully opening it to reveal a nice diamond ring. "Zayn, I mean it when I say I love you. When I say I want you. I love you more than anything I've ever loved. And nights like these - when we can just be together, and reminisce the days we were like this too - they make me realize how lucky I am. I want to be with you forever Zayn. So, Zayn Javaad Malik - will you marry me?"

The look on Zayn's face made Liam's smile falter slightly. He seemed surprised, and Liam couldn't tell if it was in a good way or not.

But the words he heard next were enough to lift his spirits.

"Yes, Liam. Yes. I'll marry you."

The words were so sweet, so incredible to hear for Liam. He had never been happier.And now he had a fiancé to enjoy this with.

The smell of the salt water was strong as waves gently licked at the golden sand. Liam and Zayn walked down the pier, only the weight of each other's hands in their own, and the quiet call of the gulls reminding them this wasn't all just a dream.

It was the ideal date for the two of them. The sun was setting in vibrant shades of red, orange, yellow, and pink in the clear sky. The beach was silent other than their footsteps, the waves crashing against the sand, and the occasional bird call.

A nice meal was set up for the two at the end of the pier, as well, a perfect ending to their perfect date. It all just seemed to be working out a little too well.

"This has been absolutely wonderful," Liam spoke up, gaze traveling along the beachside.

"It has, hasn't it? Although I can't help but be just a bit on edge. Something goes wrong with every one of our dates, and if this one goes right, that'll throw me off," Zayn responded, steps aligned with Liam's.

"I'm going to ignore that bit," Liam rolled his eyes, playfully pushing his boyfriend's shoulder. "We're here, anyway."

"Wow, Li. You've really outdone yourself with this one," Zayn observed the table, snorting when he caught sight of the roses. "Really, Liam? You couldn't be more creative than that?"

"Well, sorry I went all out with this and didn't think of any other lavish thing. Lord, Zayn, you sure can be annoying sometimes," Liam answered, smacking Zayn across the back of his head.

"Ah, you know you love it, though."

"Exactly. Now sit, we can't let all this food be wasted. We can't exactly bring Niall the leftovers this time, can we?"

"Suppose not," Zayn chuckled. "You really did go all out with this date. Steak, though, at a beach? Never would've thought of that."

"Wasn't sure what else to bring. It stayed hot, though, and it's a nice way to switch things up, yeah? Wouldn't have wanted you eating sandwiches on our fancy date, now, would I?"

Zayn smiled brightly, tongue pressed against his teeth. "You really know me well, Li," he teased. "Sandwiches are absolutely unacceptable on dates."

"God, Z, you're so rude to me today. Even after all I've done for you," Liam acted upset, tilting his head down.

"You dramatic knob. Go on and eat your stake," Zayn laughed at Liam's antics, pointing his fork toward the other side of the table where Liam's food was waiting.

"Fine, fine. I suppose my other thing can wait, then." Liam sat at the table, waiting for Zayn to begin eating before starting his meal.

"You know, I'm glad we met. You're great company, nice - most of the time, and you've got a great sense of humor. Couldn't have asked for anyone better," Liam spoke, sitting up a bit in his chair.

"You're not so bad yourself, Payne," Zayn joked. "All teasing aside, you're amazing too, Li. Best guy I've ever met. Ridiculously sweet, handsome, good at pretty much everything."

"Well then, on that note -" Liam stood, pulling a ring box out of his pocket and getting down on one knee.

"Zayn, I've loved you since the day we met. I know it took me a while to actually say anything about it, but I have. You're the love of my life, Zayn, and I couldn't ask for anyone better to spend the rest of my life with. So, Zayn Javaad Malik - will you make me the happiest man alive and marry me?"

Tears formed in Zayn's eyes as the smile on his face grew even larger. "Yes. Yes, of course I will."

"Looks like we get a happy ending, after all."
