I’m gonna stop you right there. The reason I think this is the worst year ever is because out of all the years I’ve been alive and that I remember, this has been the worst. Sure, pick any random year from history and you could argue that, on balance, a lot more bad things happened, or things that had more of a negative impact happened. That doesn’t negate my opinion that this year has been shit for me, or for anyone else who feels the same way.

People dislike this year because nearly everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. Millions have died from the coronavirus, lost friends and loved ones, lost their jobs and homes, been unfairly targeted by law enforcement, watched their countries burn... I could go on. Anyone who’s lost their job and been evicted because they couldn’t pay rent couldn’t give two shits that things were technically worse in the 6th century AD or whenever. That’s a nice bit of historical trivia, but that isn’t going to fix their situation.

Those who make fun of others for disliking this year piss me off. Same thing as everyone going “calender year bad lol” four years ago. People that are angry, depressed, stressed and frustrated by the past 12 months don’t hate the literal Gregorian calendar year. They hate what has happened over that period of time. Sorry if I sound like a killjoy, but I’m just sick to shit of seeing and hearing (mostly) priviledged twats yucking it up over how silly it is to hate this particular year because it wasn’t that bad for them.
