How do I know I am over weight/out of shape? Well, I don't feel active, good about my body, and I am never meeting goals. This next piece of advice is not supporting or encouraging anorexia, bulimia, or any other unhealthy eating disorders.聽
But if you have struggled with any of these issues or weight then perhaps it鈥檚 time to go minimalist--AKA PUT DOWN THE FORK. Obviously, not all food is eaten with a fork, and you will need to eat frequently so as to not kick your body into starvation mode. There are diets that voice a lot of what I am going to say in these posts, but what I want to say that I have done is made a life change.聽
I had to break-up with food. Not in general, but food such as pasta, grains, starches, sugar, all dairy except completely plain non-fat Fage (fah-ya) yogurt, bread, and seasonings I limit to monitor salt intake.聽
Much like an alcoholic, I realized I was out of control with food. Now, I wasn't ruining my marriage or child with it, but I was becoming increasingly unhappy with me. This of course impacts relationships. So, to recap I realized if I was bored, sad, mad, happy, meeting friends, going on a date, having a work meeting/function, basically doing/feeling any and all things food was the center of the activity. . . This is obviously a slippery slope. I began writing down the food I was eating, and I felt shame and guilt.聽
I never had a problem with alcohol, but I realized that along with sugar and the previously listed items it was unnecessary calories--it had to go. I do school online so I spend a lot of time sedentary. This is not uncommon in a lot of peoples lives that work from home, in an office, and are not able to hit the gym for hours on end. . So what is the answer?聽
Hunger headaches, life changing restructuring of what is OKAY to eat, and exercise. I am sorry, but it is going to hurt a little-a lot depending on how hooked you are on these various items. So my advice is chose one thing at a time and PUT DOWN THE FORK (or in other words get over it). Do you have a family? Can they help you by understanding you might need a nap or be a little short for around a week-a month? ALWAYS walk at least 10,000 steps. Most phones will record this via an app. Then get to a place where you can work out for 90 min a day. If you are obese/seriously over weight/inactive start with 10k steps and 10 min of getting your heart rate to an elevated level. Again if you are morbidly obese/have a BMI (google if you need help to estimate) or 30+ get a heart rate monitor and begin to move. If you are dizzy or faint STOP, and consult a physician about how to get up to those ten min.聽
Stretch. If it hurts STOP, and back off. Learning to listen to your bodies needs verses your body/minds wants is a tricky thing. It will take time. It will hurt. It will be uncomfortable. If I can do it you can do it!聽
