Headcanons for the Avengers teaching you how to drive
Avengers x reader
warnings:
a/n:
prompt: anonymous: “hey! if it's not too much to ask... can i request an MCU Avengers headcanon of the team teaching teen!reader how to drive? i'm finally learning how to and it's absolutely terrifying (i really hope this sends properly because firefox crashed while i was trying to write it lol)”
Tumblr media
firstly no one was very thrilled to be your teacher because getting in the car with an inexperienced driver just felt like a trap
and although they’d put themselves in much more dangerous situations than this
they all had the same thing to say:
“this is not how i want to go down”
but theyd FORBID anyone else from stepping in
“it’s okay, i’ll do it” -cap
“no, no, no. i dont think the one hundred year old man knows today’s road rules. i should teach y/n” -nat
“natasha, you’ve let me drive you before. was i that bad?” -cap
“im not having this discussion” -nat
“you should let vis do it, he might stay calm while y/n drives” -wanda
“what about sam—” -bucky
“no.” -sam
you were actually quietly watching them bicker about who’d have the honor of teaching you
“i dont let anyone else drive me, y/n. you’re not special. but ill give you a cool car when you get your license, deal?” -tony
“i’m not special?” -you
“sure you are kid, i just never want to get in a car that you’re driving is all” -tony, patting your head
“oh, okay” -you
the avengers actually decided that wanda was right and vision was probably the best equipped to teach you
they just had to see if you’d enjoy having him as a teacher
the team set up a little course at HQ with a LOT of cones
“how am i supposed to get around all of those?” -you
“you can use your powers!” -thor
“that’s against the rules!” -you
they had to take some of the cones away :(
all the avengers watched from the side of the course
“now, y/n, you need to shift into drive. press your foot on the brake and move this knob to the ‘D’ position” -vision
“which one is the brake?” -you
“...the left one” -vis
sam was recording on his phone
and had redwing do a bird’s eye view for “special footage”
“this should be good” -sam
as soon as you stepped on the gas, the car went speeding straight forward
sam was laughing his ass off but the rest of the avengers were terrified for you
you hit 6 cones before the brakes
“have some faith in them, guys” -wanda
“i just don’t think that’s possible. you guys okay in there?” -rhodey
“spectacular, thank you for your concern” -vis
you needed to try a different teacher
nat was next in line
“okay, so we probably should have mentioned how sensitive you have to be with the pedals. i know we dont do that on missions, but when you’re on the road, you have to watch all of your surroundings” -nat
she totally brought you straight into traffic because the only way you learn in through intense pressure and real world experience (according to her)
“hands at ten and two, right?” -you
“if that’s what you think” -nat
“that’s not helping” -you
screaming every time you turned
ESPECIALLY left hand turns (or right turns if you are not in the US but this takes place in the US i guess idk it’s whatever you want ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
redwing was still following you
everyone was watching the surveillance footage at HQ
“tony, you’re paying for any damages y/n makes, right?” -cap
“is that all im good for? my money?” -tony... “duh, of course i’m paying”
blowing past a red light
“you were supposed to stop” -nat
“what, now?” -you, braking in the middle of the intersection
*honking from all sides*
“what do you think, y/n?” -nat
cap was covering his eyes
“this is a disaster” -wanda
“takes one to know one” -tony, without thinking “oh my god, i’m sorry”
“lets just focus on y/n, maybe we can give them some feedback” -cap
nat made you drive into a parking lot
to park
“okay, just pull in straight. you have to be even in between the lines” -nat
“is that good?” -you
“y/n...you parked directly on top of the line” -nat
“...fuck” -you
next person to teach you was......
“come on, y/n. just go through the drive thru. i’ll pay for your chicken nuggets” -rhodey
“i dont really want chicken nuggets” -you
“fine, okay, you can get whatever you want. just go through the drive thru” -rhodey
you hit the curb
you actually rode the curb
“this is fine” -you
“well...you’re getting better” -rhodey
“dont sugarcoat it, man” -you
“come on! eyes on the road!” -rhodey
steve decided to step in and let you handle the driving on an actual mission
“at least here you’ll have some sort of free reign, that way you can get a better feeling of control when driving” -cap
“we dont like this plan” -all the avengers in the back of this big ass truck
redwing was following ofc
honestly,,,,, that plan wasn’t too bad
you did hit a few trees but this was a heavy duty vehicle
you’d have to do a lot more than that to hurt anything
“hey, this is actually pretty cool! i think ive got the hang of it!” -you
they scheduled you drivers test when you got back, but assured you that it wasnt the end of the world if you failed. you could retake it after some more practice
but you did end up passing it!!!! even tho there were a few mishaps
“mx. l/n, your turn signal” -instructor
“my what?” -you “oh crap”
but you got your license and the team took turns passing it around to take a look at it
“oh man, you look high as a kite. what’s going on with your face???” -tony
“shut up! no i dont!” -you
celebratory dinner!!!!
and sam put together a compilation of all your worst/best moments behind the wheel
“heres the one where they put it in reverse instead of park and started rolling backwards......and thats when they jumped out to try to stop it with their bare hands....oh no!!! they’re going down!!!!” -sam
“oh my god, nooo!” -you, burying your face in your hands
and to top it all off......tony bought you your own car (and got any modifications you wanted)
“i swear to god if you ask for flames on the sides, im donating it” -tony

Peace and Quiet?
Pairings: Steve Rogers x Reader
Warnings: Angst-ish, language, the reader makes a poor decision, fluff as well
Word Count: 5900+
Request: “I seriously love your longer one shots! Could you please do a Cap (or Bucky) + reader, where the reader is kinda loud/outgoing because of not wanting to be forgotten or something? And the reader figures they make him uncomfortable and shuts everyone out, leading to him confessing he likes the reader? Fluff please?” @homeybadger
A/N:  Wow so uhh, this has been a request that’s been sitting in my inbox for sooooo looonnng. No seriously, like super long. I feel so bad that it’s taken me just now to get to it. I wanted to do something nice with it, but I just couldn’t get it right, then I forgot it was there and then I remember and scrapped the whole thing. I hope you enjoy this story and I hope the length makes up for it! I did not mean to take so long on this! I hope you all enjoy!!
**I’m also debating on doing a second part, but it all depends on the feedback I get. So please let me know what you think! ❤

“Oh, bad luck. You landed on Boardwalk,” Sam smirked, a giggle beginning to bubble in his chest as the rage that was settling on Y/N’s face across the table. She glared at the double dice, a freaking snake eye, that had been against her the entire game. “And if my math is correct, with my three houses you owe me $1400. And from the looks of your very sad pile, you’ll have to sell everything on top of declaring bankruptcy.”
“I hate this game!” Y/N screamed, throwing down the $300 hundred she had left.
“Hey, don’t hate the game!” Natasha shot back, grinning behind her beer bottle. Y/N shot her glare.
“Oh, shut up! You and Clint have been cheating the entire time and you know it!” she growled. Clint gasped but was cut off by a sharp jab in the ribs by Bucky. He grumbled and pulled out the chance cards he had stashed away, and nudge Natasha to pull out the money she had hidden away. “See! This game sucks!”
“Now, now. No need to go all green on us.” Tony grinned. Bruce made a noise before letting out a puff of air. Irritated with both the game and how smug everyone was acting, Y/N exploded with a primal battle cry.
“Fuck this game! You people are all cheaters!”
Everyone had enough time to grab their drinks off before Y/N flipped the table, the pieces flying everywhere. Bucky and Wanda both doubled over in their seats, howling when Y/N began to scream at Tony, who jumped up and was yelling back at the same volume. Clint and Natasha were grinning like idiots as the mayhem grew. Bruce rolled his eyes when Sam jumped in, normally the tone the room shifted would set him on edge, but this wasn’t unusual. The only person that wasn’t reacting, save for Vision who had no idea why tensions were so high over a silly game, was Steve.
He had decided to sit this game night out. After the Mario Party debacle, he wasn’t ready to jump back in the ring. Thor spun a wheel and tossed a dart to cut someone’s stars in half. He landed on Y/N’s. While she was once in the lead, that cut her stars in half and she was suddenly in last place. That was fine. It was when she was hit by Bowser, who Tony was playing as when they managed to let him loose of his little prison that she flipped her lid. The team got a kick out of her raging at the games, and all banded together to see how quickly she could snap. Steve, however, didn’t see the charm in it.
To put it lightly, Y/N was a lot to handle. She was everywhere all at once to begin with, her voice carrying through walls. There wasn’t a single mean bone in her body, aside from her intense competitive streak. She seemed to win over anybody. Steve still wasn’t sure. He’d admit, she was sweet and everyone else seemed to love her. Steve thought she was cute too, sometimes she would fall asleep on the couch and he’d find himself taking advantage of her stillness to stare. But she never stopped to breathe once it seemed. He couldn’t recall a time where she wasn’t talking loudly about something or practically bouncing off the walls from excitement. She was a lot more than he was used to. Y/N made his head spin. It wasn’t terrible, but it was a bit exhausting after a while around her. It also didn’t help that sometimes her power manifested with her growing emotions. Which is what was happening right now.
“You’re the one who wanted us to play this stupid game!” Tony accused, rolling his eyes.
“Did not! I specifically said that I thought it was a stupid idea because I always end up flipping a table! You’re the one who then said we had to play it since learning that bit of information.” She countered pointing a finger at him. Tony stopped, a sly grin spreading across his face.
“Oh yeah.”
“Ugh!” She grumbled. “You people are so frustrating! Why do you do this to me?!”
“Because it’s fun.” Tony grinned, his eyes flashing with glee. That was the wrong thing to say. Now Y/N really was angry. She grits her teeth and balled her fists at her side. If this was a cartoon, she’d have steam coming out of her ears she was so angry. Unbeknownst to her, her powers started to manifest with her mounting fury, afflicting the others in the room.
Y/N’s power was special and even a bit strange considering how specific it was. Since she could remember, Y/N always had the gift to control the aura around her to suppressed others authority and leadership skills. It was a power that had come handy in her life, but also hindered her more than it helped. She had a rather strong grip on it at all times, but sometimes that control slipped. Tony’s face paled, and everyone else around her started to shift uncomfortably.
“Uh-Y/N.” Wanda reached out, her fingers gently brushing against the back of Y/N’s arm. Wanda flinched, the contact enough to send her the full force of Y/N’s strange power, but she fought to stay strong. Y/N blinked, quickly realizing the shift in the room was because of her. Her shoulder’s dropped and the suffocating aura surrounding her disappeared. The room sighed collectively in relief.
“See. This is why you shouldn’t poke the bear.” Y/N huffed, crossing her arms against her chest. Tony chuckled and shook his head.
“It’s nice to know you’re aware.” Sam let out a laugh as well, grinning widely at her. She grumbled under her breath and turned to sit back in her seat. As she did, she scanned the room and noticed a spot empty. Standing straighter she glanced around the room.
“Hey, where did Steve go?”
The group collectively turned around, just now noticing the empty seat their Captain once took up as well. Bucky frowned and shot a look to Natasha, who seemed on the same page. Slowly, he turned to back to Y/N.
“Uh... Maybe he decided to turn in early.” He tried. The team seemed to take it, albeit skeptically. He had been doing this a lot lately, getting up at disappearing without a word. No one wanted to say it aloud, but they all noticed it happened around the time Y/N came to the team four months ago.
Y/N stilled, her eyes hardening for a split second before they seemed to glaze over. Shaking her head, she heaved a sigh.
“I’m gonna turn in early too. Sorry, this little outburst just took a lot out of me.” She said, stepping over the discarded pieces and was out of the room before anyone could argue. The room had shifted into a subdued atmosphere, everyone thinking the same thing.
“Someone needs to talk to him.” Wanda murmured. Bucky nodded, letting out a sigh.
“I’ll talk to him.” He said. The rest all murmured in agreement, slowly trickling out the room since game night clearly was done for the evening. They could only hope tomorrow would end on a better note.
~~~~~~~
Y/N sat on her bed, clinging to her favorite stuffed animal wondering just where she went wrong. Since she joined the team a few short months ago, she had been trying her best to get close to the rest of her teammates. Naturally, she was a bubbly person. But her gift made it harder for her to get close to anyone. Her parents thought it was odd, the power came from nowhere when she hit the age of three. It took them time to figure out that it wasn’t because she was incredibly intimidating and that she was unintentionally suppressing their confidence level.
They spent years taking her to doctors and specialists that might be able to help her control her powers. It wasn’t without consequences. Because she struggled for so long to control her powers, she spent a lot of her life unintentionally hurting those around her.
Her classmates didn’t know what exactly, but they knew something was wrong with her. She spent the majority of her school years alone in the corner, shunned from taking part of anything in her classes. If anyone tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, something always went wrong. They were terrified of her. The fear turned to indifference and eventually, they paid her no mind. No one wanted her in their lives. But for Y/N, she wanted nothing more than to be accepted and included.
Which might explain why she was the way she was today. It took years to master her control, but she did it. And now that she was an Avenger, she was surrounded by people who were like her. Special and unique. Nowhere else could she be herself as she could here. This was her last chance of being free and she never wanted to be forgotten.
It didn’t take her long to win over the others. They were more than aware of what she could do. Not a one batted an eyelash, no one shrank away in fear they’d be subjected to the smothering fear she could plague them with. If anything, it fascinated them. She was the one who they’d send in to interrogate. Whether on location or in a holding cell, it didn’t matter. Her power was a gift to get the tightest of lips to talk. For the first time in her life, Y/N felt as though she had finally found her calling.
Y/N was proud of how far she had come. It was years of uphill battles and year left in the shadows. But now, she had it all, friends, her family and a job she loved. All except the acceptance of Steve. He was polite, but he always had an air of discomfort around her. Not with anyone else, just her. Y/N hated to admit it, but it hurt.
Since the day she met him, Y/N fell hard. Who couldn’t though? He was charming, cared for his friends and protective of his family. But for some reason, he just didn’t seem like he enjoyed being around her. Perhaps, she thought, it was something she said to him. She couldn’t recall anything that might set his teeth on edge, but she was at a loss.
Letting out a heavy sigh, Y/N set her stuffed animal down on the bed and swung her legs over the side. She knew she shouldn’t dwell too much on it. He could very well be in a bad mood, and it could confidently only be when she’s in the same room. She snorted. Yeah, that was it.
No, she thought, there was something more about it. Thinking back all the times she noticed he’d got running, realization hit her like a freight train. Every time he ran, it was because of something she did. It was her. A broken sob crept it’s way up her throat. She was the reason, that was the only thing it could be. Steve Rogers, the man who unknowingly held her heart in his hands, was uncomfortable with her. She clenched the sheets of the bed and held back her tears.
Y/N had to change. Her behavior had always been a problem, she knew that. She was so terrified of being left alone and forgotten again, she let her eagerness go too far. Falling back on the bed, she stared at the ceiling and came to a life-altering decision.
~~~~~
“Hey! There you are!” Natasha grinned motioning Y/N over to her mat. “I was wondering if you’d ever show up or if I’d have to go up to pull you out of bed.”
Y/N didn’t respond with her usual quip, just sent her a tight-lipped smile and a soft apology. Natasha blinked her lack of typical response slightly off-putting. Where was her boisterous hello and never-ending pouts of energy? It was one of the fun things about working out with Y/N first thing in the morning. This wasn’t usual of her at all.
“Okay.” Natasha drawled, looking over Y/N to try and decipher her new attitude. “Well, let’s get started on stretching you at, then we’ll get on the mat to spar.”
Y/N wordlessly nodded, moving over to where the yoga mats were laid out waiting for her. Natasha took up the spot next to her, keeping her eyes especially close on Y/N. Aside from her uncharacteristically quiet demeanor, it didn’t seem like there was a hair out of place on her. Although, her movement seemed a bit on the robotic side. Y/N was just going through the motions, getting done with her stretches before wordlessly making her way over to the mats without a glance to Natasha.
Natasha sat up and watched Y/N leave without a word, flabbergasted. Things seemed fine last night, aside from Steve’s abrupt disappearance. As far as Natasha knew, Y/N had gone straight to her room to sleep. And everyone was either here in the gym or Tony and Bruce in the lap. So, what happened to Y/N?
“Hey, you okay?” Natasha asked, catching Y/N’s elbow.
“What do you mean?” Y/N tilted her head to the side, brows furrowed.
“I don’t know,” Natasha said slowly, her gaze narrowing the longer she stared at Y/N. “You just seem… off today.”
“Oh.” She uttered simply. “Yeah. I’m good.”
Pulling her arm away from Natasha, Y/N wandered over to where Sam was now standing with Bucky. Their smile grew at the sight of her, both unaware of Y/N’s new behavior.
“Good morning sunshine!” Sam beamed at her, wrapping her up in a hug. Y/N let out a faint giggle as she hugged him back. Bucky grinned and tilted his head in greeting.
“Morning doll. You sleep okay last night? I didn’t hear your snores through the paper-thin walls last night.”  He teased, nudging her with his shoulder. Y/N huffed but surprisingly bit her tongue.
“Morning Bucky. Yeah, I slept fine.” Y/N shrugged, her face showing little to no emotions. “We ready to get started.”
Both men were stunned, completely thrown off by her sudden change. They shot Natasha a startled look, who could only shrug. She hadn’t the faintest idea either what happened. Y/N wasn’t supplying them with anything either, so all they could do was continue as if nothing was wrong. It didn’t mean they weren’t going to question her later of course.
Getting done with their training was odd, uncomfortable even. Y/N didn’t speak unless spoken to, and even then they were short simple answers. There was none of her usual spunkiness that fought back with each quip Sam sent her way. He even tried to rile her up, he almost pulled out all the stops in a hope to gain a reaction from her. But she didn’t move an inch. Bucky tried to get her to react when he threw a punch harder than necessary her way. They thought they had her, there was a spark of fury in her eyes after she picked herself up, but she quickly wiped the expression on her face.
In the end, Y/N went through the motions, doing what needed to be done without her usual flare. At one point, Wanda had even commented on how unusually quiet she had been. When Y/N left to head to the locker room, she cornered Bucky and Sam.
“What did you two do?” she hissed, jabbing a finger in Sam’s chest. He made a noise in the back of his throat offended at the accusation.
“What the hell makes you think we did anything?” Bucky crossed his arms across his chest. Wanda turned her narrow gaze to Bucky.
“Well. Something happened to her. And I know Natasha wouldn’t do anything to hurt her.”
“Oh and we would?” Sam snapped, shaking his head. “We didn’t do anything to her Wanda, she was like this when she came in.”
“He’s right.” Natasha interrupted, siding with the two men. “She’s been like this all morning. I have no clue why.”
The door the locker room opened, Y/N walking freshly out of the shower and a new change of clothes. She stopped short when she saw all four eyes locked on her across the room. Awkwardly, she waved to them before heading to the exit. Right as she reached it, Steve swung open the door, towel in hand. His steps faltered and a tight-lipped smile passed on her face.
The group couldn’t see her face from where they stood. All they could see was her nod her head once before stepping around Steve with a wide berth to head out the exit. Steve was left stunned. It wasn’t normal to not have his ear talked off when it came to Y/N. Blinking rapidly, he wandered over to Bucky, brows furrowed in confusion.
“What she say?” Wanda asked. Steve’s mouth fell open to answer but couldn’t find the right words.
“Uh… Nothing.” He shrugged.
“And you don’t find that strange?” Wanda asked the group, pinning each of them with her stare. Bucky bristled at the insinuation, his hands balling into fists.
“We never said it wasn’t. We just have no idea what’s wrong with her.” He snapped, stepping up with his back straighter and shoulders set. Wanda glared right back, red seeping into her eyes. Natasha wiggled her way between them, grumbling under her breath.
“Alright. Alright, enough.” She held her hands out to both, pushing them back. “Wanda, we have no clue what happened. Y/N walked in like this. It’s probably nothing and she’s just having an off day. Why don’t we just let whatever happened run its course and see how she is through the rest of the day. No point on biting each other’s heads off when we all did nothing wrong.”
The group grumbled their agreement, still not at ease with how the morning had turned. Steve was just as concerned as the rest. It was odd that she didn’t greet him with her megawatt smile when he walked in the gym, and it was odd how her face seemed to tighten at the sight of him. All he got this morning was a tight-lipped smiled before she ran out the door. What was even odder was the fact that she seemed to give him as much space as possible. As if she didn’t want to get too close.
Steve turned to the door, his brows creased and mouth in a tight line. Something was going on with Y/N, but who was he to worry about her?
~~~~~~~~
Things hadn’t gotten much better with Y/N over the next few days. She had stopped taking part in the loud discussions that always managed to start up in the kitchen or the living room. Her words were short and few in between, but she didn’t seem upset. Just much more subdued than usual. When someone would speak to her, so would she. But it was never the same volume as before.
Sam and Clint both made it their mission to get her to snap. They did everything from switching her sugar to salt in her coffee to going into her room and putting baby powder in her hair dryer. Nothing worked. She would just sigh and turn her back to them, shoulders tense. They thought she’d give up and go back to her old ways, but nothing worked. Not even Natasha could get her to admit what was wrong.
Steve, however, was taking her attitude change harder than the rest. Don’t ask him why he didn’t even know. He thought he’d prefer her at a lower decibel, he assumed she would be more manageable and easier to get along with. But this, this wasn’t what he thought it would be like. To him, it almost seemed creepy. This wasn’t the Y/N he had come to know. The wasn’t the same woman in the slightest. It was as if someone else swapped personalities with her.
Y/N hadn’t shown any improvement in her attitude in the field either. Actually, she seemed to be less productive now. One of the ways she managed to get people to confess was using her power and then releasing it. There she’d act like a good cop, bargaining with them for information and if they didn’t give her what she wanted, she’d switch her powers back on again. Now, she just threw herself into it. There was no build up, no false sense of security.
Just last week they needed information about the next hit Hydra ordered. They apprehended one of the agents and sent in Y/N to get out the information when he wouldn’t fess up. The team assumed the old Y/N would come out now that she was in the field. Instead, she walked in and used the full force of her powers on the man. She was already so powerful, but she had a strong grip on her control. When her power flared to life, even with the thick walls it suffocated everyone.
The agent instantly started sobbing, blubbering like a small child before it grew to mindless screaming for mercy. As it turns out, her power can actually break the human spirit and shatter their sanity into a thousand pieces. It only affected the man in front of her, but it still rattled the rest of the group. Steve was furious.
“What the hell was that?!” He snarled, dragging Y/N into a conference room. She blinked, her face unmoving despite the rage rolling off him in waves. Tony, Fury, and Maria both sat around the meeting table, their mouths pulled into thin lines. She tore her gaze away, refusing to look at anyone in particular as Steve raged on. “You ruined any chances of getting information out of him!”
“Actually Cap, she ruined any chance of him being a normal human being again,” Tony interjected, pulling up a hologram of the doctor's report. The mental status report had been sent in a few moments before Steve dragged her in. The poor man couldn’t remember his name let alone the information they needed.
Y/N pinched the bridge of her nose between her fingers and let out a heavy breath. When she opened them, their faces hadn’t changed a bit. Settling on a point at the table, the brief glimpse she caught of their expressions was burned in her mind. Steve was livid, Tony seemed borderline irritated with a hint of amusement, while Fury and Maria both had a hard expression that told her she was in for it for the next few weeks.
“Look. I’m sorry. I let a few personal matters get to me and clearly, I didn’t handle it well.” She said calmly. Steve flinched at how lifeless she sounded when she mentioned her personal matter and shot Tony a concerned look. Tony tilted his head in acknowledgment, he too aware of the pain she seemed to be suppressing. “I can’t promise it won’t happen again by accident, but I’ll make sure to put more training in to ensure it doesn’t.”
Fury shifted in his seat, folding his hands on his crossed knee. His single eye narrowed as he looked her over and gave her a curt nod.
“See that it doesn’t agent. Dismissed.” He said curtly. Y/N’s eyes fluttered shut for a spilt-second before she jerked her chin and spun at heel to leave the room. After the door shut behind her, Fury grunted.
“What did you people do to her?” He accused, leveling Steve and Tony with a stare. Both men frowned and glanced at the other.
“We didn’t do anything.” Tony snapped, narrowing his eyes. Steve set his hand on the back of a chair and sighed.
“She’s been like this for almost a week now. This is the first time she’s actually admitted something wrong.” Steve replied, his brows furrowing at the tightness in his chest at the idea. It wasn’t like Y/N to keep everything bottle up inside her like this.
“Well, whatever’s wrong with her, fix it,” Fury ordered. “She needs to be in complete control and that can’t happen when her minds on other things.”
Pushing back the chair he stood, Maria right behind him. Not waiting for a reply, he grabbed the folder off the desk and briskly left the room with Maria following. Steve flinched when the door snapped shut behind them. Tony scoffed.
“You can get rid of that sad puppy dog look, Captain.”
Steve frowned, his head snapping up to Tony.
“What’s with the tone, Tony?” He asked. Tony rolled his eyes and leaned back in his seat.
“We all know you don’t like Y/N, you put up a good front though.” He waved a hand absently. “But when you dart out of a room anytime she comes in, or you won’t sit to talk with her when she comes to find you, it gets pretty noticeable.”
Steve stood taller, his mouth drawing into a tight line. He opened his mouth to argue, but it dawned on him. He hadn’t been the most welcoming person to Y/N in the few months she’s been here. Was that really how everyone perceives him? Tony smirked and shook his head.
“To put it simply; you’ve been an ass to our Y/N, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was something you did.” Groaning softly under his breath, Tony stood and grabbed his tablet. Steve’s face fell, the notion her change might have been because of him made his stomach turn. Tony clapped a hand on his shoulder, his mouth pulled into a tight line. “Like Fury said, we’re going to fix this. But don’t worry. We won’t waste your precious time.”
At that, Tony left Steve alone in the conference room, the sting of his words lingering behind. Steve’s shoulder slumped. Maybe this had been his fault. But when? How? He really didn’t think it would have been that big of a deal to leave early after the game. Maybe he thought wrong and she did take it wrong. That wouldn’t mean this complete 180 though, would it? It wasn’t the first time he escaped a game night gone wrong, and she didn’t seem upset them. Perhaps it was something else. That had to be it. He really hadn’t done anything wrong, at least he didn’t think he did.
“Hey FRIDAY,” Steve called. Immediately, the AI system responded.
“Yes, Captain?”
“Go back to the last game night, the one with monopoly, did anything happen to Y/N between the time I left, and she went to bed?” He asked. Silence met him as the computer searched the data.
“No, it doesn’t seem like anything happened. She never left her room once she entered either.” FRIDAY replied. Steve frowned, even more, confused than before. So if there wasn’t anything that happened to her then what was with change?
Clenching his jaw, Steve knew he needed to get to the bottom of this. Not just as a Captain to his team, but as a way to make up for being such a shitty housemate. And maybe even as a way to start an actual friendship with him. Now that he’s seen this side of her, he realized how judgment and close-minded he was. He needed to find her and talk with her.
Y/N had just stripped out of her suit and into her PJs when there was a hesitant knock on the door. She frowned. She wasn’t expecting anyone tonight, especially not after she just got her ass handed to her. Reluctantly she went to open the door and was surprised at the person on the other side.
Steve stood there awkwardly, his hands in his pockets. She blinked and took a step back.
“Uh… hi?” she greeted cautiously.  Steve smiled hesitantly and shifted from foot to foot.
“Hey. Can we talk?”
“W-Why?” She clutched on the handle and shifted behind the door in an attempt to hide behind it. Steve noticed and his smile fell. He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair.
“I know I’m the last person you want to talk to. I’ve not been the most welcoming and I want to apologize. Can I please come in?” He asked earnestly. Y/N was caught off guard at his sincerity. Nodding numbly, she pulled the door open and let him in her room.
Steve glanced around the room, noticing the number of pictures she had hanging up on her wall, pretty fairy lights cascading down the walls illuminating each photo. Her comforter was a light lilac with stuffed animals on the bed. He eyed the little knickknacks matched the rest of her décor on her desks and shelves adding to the warmth and homey feel her room had. Realization hit him that he really hadn’t taken the time to get the real her.
“Go ahead and have a seat.” Y/N waved to the bed before sitting on the other end. Steve sank into the plush mattress, taking a moment to look over Y/N. She refused to make eye contact, to busy wringing her fingers together to notice him staring. Once again, he was struck by how beautiful she was, and how poorly he handled everything.
“Look Y/N, I don’t know what happened the past few days and why you’re acting different, but somethings changed. We all can see it.” He said. Y/N opened her mouth to argue but thought better of it. Steve continued on. “I don’t know what happened, but it hurts all of us to see you like this. It’s like you’ve lost a huge part of yourself and we’re seeing this empty shell. I mean, Sam and Clint both are losing their minds because what ordinarily would work on getting you riled up is doing nothing. And Bucky’s beside himself, Natasha and Wanda are worried sick, and Tony is pissed because-.” Steve stopped short, his face twisting into a pained expression. “He thinks I’m the reason.”
Y/N tensed, her breath catching in her throat. It was minuscule, but Steve caught it. He sat taller and his stomach sank.
“It is because of me.” He whispered sadly. He tore his eyes away from her to stare blankly at his hands. Y/N closed her eyes but didn’t deny it. “I’m sorry. I know I’ve not been accepting. I didn’t mean to hurt you though.”
Y/N nodded slowly, biting her lower lip as he kept talking.
“Truth is, you intimidate the hell out of me. I’ve never met someone who was so sure of themselves and so incredibly proud about it. You held nothing back and you’re so willing to put your heart on your sleeve, I kind of envy you a little. People loved you right of the bat and your just so sweet inside and out. I mean, you didn’t let anyone tell you to chill out before. Which leaves me to ask, why now? Why did I affect you so much that you changed everything about you?”
That caused Y/N’s face to heat up. No way was she going to admit it aloud! It was already embarrassing enough Steve knew he was a reason why she changed, but for him to know what the full reason was mortified her.
“Y/N.” He gently took her hand in his, the corners of his lips turned up. “You don’t have to tell me. I just want you to know that no matter what you think, I don’t hate you. I never did. Matter of fact, I really like you. More than I thought. It didn’t hit me how much I’d come to admire and appreciate your take on life until now. I miss hearing you bicker with Tony about the best brew coffee first thing in the morning or when you and Bucky gang up on Sam. I know Natasha and Wanda miss having their best friend. And game nights will never be the same without you threatening and then following through with flipping a table.”
Y/N giggled and ducked her chin. His grin grew, finally seeing a glimmer of her former self.
“I’m not asking you to forgive me for how I’ve behaved. I can only ask you’ll give me a chance to make up for being such a shitty person.” He grinned.
“Language, Captain.” Y/N teased.
“Is that ever going to die?” Steve groaned and rolled his eyes. “Wait you weren’t even there!”
“I know but hate to break it to you, it’s here for the long haul.” Y/N giggled and shook her head. Steve’s laughter joined hers, his smile stretching from ear to ear. He titled his head to the side after a beat before letting out a sigh.
“So, are you going to be okay?” He asked hopefully. Y/N let out a deep breath, for the first time all week feeling lighter. She was so drained from keeping her emotions in check, it took every ounce of her strength not to react to the attempts at making her snap. She knew it was ridiculous trying to change, but she really thought it was for the better. Turns out, it not only damaged her but everyone she loved.
“Yeah. I think I’ll be okay.” She spoke confidently. Steve patted her thigh and quickly stood.
“Good, because Tony discovered some new game called The Jackbox Party Pack or something along those lines.” He extended a hand and waited for her to take it.
“Wait, right now?” She asked surprised. He nodded and took her hand.
“Yup. Come on. Team bonding time.”
Y/N laughed, letting him pull her up and drag her out of the room. He looked at her over his shoulder, his breath catching in her throat at the way her face lit up from her grin. Turning back quickly, he hoped she didn’t notice the way his ears turned pink. He was an idiot for not taking the time to get to know her. He wasn’t going to ruin his chance with her a second time. Maybe it wasn’t going to easy, but for Y/N he knew it would be worth it.
  Bucky Barnes was a dancer.
He sometimes had flashes of his old life in the late 30’s and 40’s, long summer nights dancing with beautiful dames, little Stevie by his side laughing and stepping in the ladies’ shoes. Everything was much more simpler, happier, but war happened and the dances turned into battles, the warm hands that he was used to hold became rifles and glocks. The jazzy tunes turned into gunfire, dates turned into risky missions and the thought of a long happy life turned into dust when he fell off that train.
Bucky Barnes stopped being a dancer to be a soldier, a spy, a deadly assassin.
They had taken all he was away, all his memories, his hopes and dreams. Everything was wiped but not his motor skills or knowledge. They turned him into the most efficient soldier, cold and calculating, his only motive in life was completing his missions. He had killed mercilessly, not questioning even once who was in front of the gun, he just knew he had to pull the trigger.
Everything changed the moment Steve Rogers, his best friend since childhood, found him 70 years after being used and tortured. Steve saved him from the claws of Hydra and gave him the opportunity to gain back his own self, to finally give his life meaning again.
His life changed drastically when he joined the Avengers, he could use his unrequired skills to help people, to save lives. He had his closest friends, Steve of course, Sam, Nat and then he met you. Once he was able to recover almost all his memories, he had a long heartfelt conversation with Natasha since she had suffered in similar ways. The brainwashing, the body killing training, the horrors of the Cold War and the cruelty of the Red Room.
You and Nat were inseparable, both becoming SHIELD agents the same year. You were a freelance hitwoman, both of your missions were to kill the same target. But before you could kill each other, SHIELD stepped in and rescued both of you, seeing your potential and the ability to do the missions other agents weren’t able to. When Bucky first came to the compound, you were away because your last mission went badly and it almost killed you, so Fury and Steve decided it was better for you to lay low for a while. Months went by and Bucky’s curiosity only grew, he really wanted to meet you, since everyone talked about you like you were an angel. When the time came to finally meet you, everything he ever heard about you was not nearly accurate to him. You were as much of a mystery as Nat, but unlike her, you opened up to him fastly, trusting him blindly. You both held each other on your worst nights and were also there for the other when you needed a good laugh.
You could have never imagined that the infamous Winter Soldier could be such an absolute dork with such a pure heart and soul. At first he was a bit sulky and moody, he was like a ghost around the compound, but months of therapy and help from his friends turned him into the man he was today, the man you loved deeply, even though you lied to yourself trying to make it seem like a platonic feeling. For years you remained as best friends, until the masquerade ball Tony organized for Natasha’s birthday.
“So, what are your plans for the party?” You asked Bucky nonchalantly while you looked for costume designers online. He looked up from his book and shrugged, he really didn’t know what you meant but he knew you would elaborate. You closed your laptop and placed it on your nightstand, all your attention on your friend now. You laid across the bed, resting your head on his lap. You were staring at the ceiling so you totally missed Bucky’s adoring gaze.
“Well, apart from getting hammered with Thor’s Asgardian alcohol, I don’t really know.” You rolled your eyes internally at his comment. You laid on your stomach so you could face him, your chin resting on your hands on top of his chest.
“Obviously you are doing that, but it’s not what I meant.” Bucky chuckled and you rolled your eyes. You weren’t sure about asking him to be your partner, maybe he was planning on going with someone else, maybe he wanted to go on his own. You cleared your throat while reaching out to fiddle with the laces of his hoodie nervously.
“Are you going with someone?” He frowned, realizing that you didn’t assume (like he did) that you were going together. Maybe you were planning to go with a date? He knew it had been more than a year since you had dated someone so maybe you wanted to use the party as an excuse to do so?
“What you mean with someone? I d-”
“You should ask Sarah from Forensics, I’ve heard she has a huge crush on you. She’s sooo soft and pretty. I have her number if you wa-”
“Okay, Y/n stop right there. I am not going with Sarah or with anyone else but you.” His eyes widened at his own boldness but he quickly found a logical explanation.
“I mean, we always go together to this kind of shitty parties we both dread. But if you are going with someone else is fine.”
“Yeah, yeah I just thought that maybe you wanted to go with an actual date and not your best friend.” He tousled your hair and you whined jokingly. He mumbled “dork” and you stuck your tongue out.
“My best friend is pretty cool and when she gets drunk the party starts, so I am not missing that for Sarah from Forensics.”
“Oh god James, and I am the dork? You absolute dumbass.” You shook your head in amusement and sat on the bed, putting your disheveled hair in a low ponytail. You slapped him lightly on the right shoulder and got down of the bed, gathering your stuff.
“I can’t stand to see that beautiful stupid face right now, I have to look for a fucking dress. You better wear something in dark red cause, you know it-”
“it’s my color” he mocked you using a high pitched tone of voice and laughed at the face of disgust you jokingly pulled off.
“Fuck you.”
“Why don’t you f-” His sentence was cut off by the bang of his door closing but you already knew what he said. You rolled your eyes and made your way to Nat’s room since you needed to organize shopping days and all that stuff.
-
Bucky Barnes was a dancer and fortunately he still had some moves, but waltzing was out of his league. He knew what a masquerade was of course, so the fact that he had to learn how to dance a completely different style was...frightening to say the least. He talked about it with Steve so they both were headed now to a masterclass while their dates were out shopping. Nat had asked Steve as her date because she wanted to go with his best friend. Their friendship was the most platonic you’ve ever seen and watching them flirt and banter was the highlight of your days. Nat was a fantastic dancer of course, she used to be a fucking ballerina, so she offered to teach you some moves. She was the only one who actually knew your feelings towards Bucky because you had confessed them one night you had drank your weight in vodka and when you saw Bucky’s text asking you to please be careful, you laughed and told her. You didn’t remember that conversation and when Natasha tried to ask you, she realized she shouldn’t bring up the topic until you were ready to believe it yourself.
“Ooof Nat, should I really buy this expensive dress?” You asked her while checking yourself out in the mirror. The dress was absolutely stunning, made of a dark red taffeta or a similar material, short sleeved and a beautiful v-neck, not very revealing but enough to make your babies pop. The bodice hugged your curves and the skirt was puffy.
“Listen, Stark is paying for everything, that includes our dresses. So yes, you are going to buy it.” She stood up and lead you back to the changing room so she could purchase both of your dresses.
Steve sighed heavily at Bucky’s complaints. They’d been dancing for four hours straight and they weren’t getting any better, or at least that’s what they thought. Bucky really couldn’t believe he had been dragged into this mess just because he loved getting drunk with you under any circumstances.
“Come on Buck, don’t worry. You two will probably be too drunk to even stand, why bother so much in learning this shit?” Bucky rolled his eyes and nudged his friend on the shoulder.
“Listen pal, I wanna do this right. You know how much I love dancing so this is just an excuse to learn something new.” He could almost believe his own lie, but Steve knew better. He knew Bucky better than himself, so he obviously knew the unspoken thing that was going on between two of his best friends.
“Okay buddy, whatever you say. I just hope Y/n appreciates all this instead of laughing at you like Sam and Nat are probably going to do.” He muttered something to himself and left the room without saying a word.
“Fucking idiots, I hope they fuck soon.” Steve said to himself before turning around and smiling at the dance teacher.
“Let’s do this Janet, I have a very dangerous woman to impress tonight.”
-
“I really, really, really, really regret the day I gave you access to come into my room whenever you want to.” You told Bucky, who was laying on your bed on his stomach, his face buried in the pillows. You slumped next to him and buried your face in the pillows as well. You really thought you looked like idiots but you couldn’t care less.
“Can we stay here? We can watch one of those victorian romantic movies you love and get wasted on our own.”
“You know I would love to, but Nat would kill us. Besides, you hate those movies.”
“I was just trying to persuade you Barnes, you don’t need to be so rude.” You stood up and opened your first drawer, pulling out the two masks you had bought throwing Bucky’s to his head and he responded with a fake “ouch”. He sat on the bed and looked at you amused, the small mask in his hands.
“And you have the nerve to call me rude. I already have my mask and I won’t show it to you until tonight.”
“Wow, sorry for thinking about you and your shitty memory, old man.”
“You know what Y/n? I’ll see you tonight before I throw myself out of that balcony.” You giggled at his fake tantrum. You really loved your friendship with Bucky, because even though you were always joking around each other, you had your backs. He was always there and so were you.
“You want me to walk you to your room?” He frowned at you but his eyes widened when he realized what you were about to say, but you said it before he could cut you off. “In case you don’t remember where your room is at.”
“That was one time Y/n, please let it go.”
“Never.” And with that said, he left. You giggled remembering the first night you two got drunk together. It was the first time Bucky had tried Thor’s alcohol so he was excited to finally get drunk after all those decades. He drank by himself almost three flasks and encouraged you to drink a bottle of vodka on your own, so at 6 am, you were stumbling through your room floor because Bucky had forgotten where his own room was, so he wanted to sleep at yours.
You took a last look at yourself in your mirror and placed the mask in its place. It was a shame that Bucky had decided not to wear the mask you’d bought for him, but his taste was pretty great so you knew it was going to be amazing.
When you reached the party the place was already full of people. Everyone was dancing to the slow melodies or drinking at the bar. You noticed that Tony had removed all the furniture from the room so it looked like a grand dance hall, the usual modern lamps he owned were replaced by huge golden crystal chandeliers, the windows were covered by thick curtains that looked like the ones European palaces had. The cream and golden tones of all the decoration gave a really regal look to the party, the soft glow of the candles in the bar and the sound of champagne glasses relaxed your senses.
You fixed your long silk gloves and sighed, moving through the crowd towards the bar, where Nat stood chatting with who you assumed it was Steve, Sam was behind the counter pouring alcohol to his half empty glass.
“You mind filling this lady’s glass?” Sam smirked and you winked at him. He raised his eyebrow under his cream and red mask and he took out a tall glass.
“What would the lady like to drink?” He rested both of his palms in the counter, looking at you with an amused look in his eyes.
“Vodka on the rocks, s'il vous plait.” You heard Nat choke on her drink and Steve turned to look at you while Sam just poured your drink, a smile playing on his lips.
“Aren’t we starting a bit early, Y/n? Your date is not even here.” You shrugged at Sam’s comment and took the glass when he handed it.
“Since you all seemed so surprised with my drinking choices, I’m going. I need an unjudging friend right now.” You waved your hand gracefully and moved towards the centre, trying to find Bucky. After five minutes and an empty glass, you saw his bulking figure talking to some woman. You needed a moment to gather your thoughts because he looked absolutely sinful with the outfit he was wearing. The black pants marked all his muscles, specially his thighs, those fucking thighs that drove you insane and his ass...you shook your head trying to stop your mind. You needed another drink.
“Wow look who’s back and empty handed!” Steve said to the small group. You nudged him in the ribs and asked Sam for another glass of alcohol.
“Why are you this flustered Y/n?” Nat asked you when she noticed your flushed cheeks. You fixed your mask trying to hide your nervousness and failing miserably.
“I really don’t know what you’re talking about.” Your three friends shared a knowing look and you rolled your eyes, finishing your drink in two sips and encouraged by the burning liquid, you went to where Bucky was. You could now see his whole outfit perfectly and your heart swelled. He was wearing a black ruffled shirt with a black and dark red embroidered vest and a black tail coat. His face was covered by a simple half Venetian mask, decorated with the same colors as the outfit’s. He was chatting with some agent you couldn’t recognize and you felt a pang of jealousy at how he was looking at her, smiling and touching her. At that moment you realized the alcohol was kicking in and that’s why you were having those stupid thoughts. You approached your friend and placed your gloved hand to his shoulder, indicating him that you were besides him and waiting for him to pay attention to you. You catched a part of the conversation and they were talking about one of the last missions the undercover agents did, so after a court nod from Bucky and a brief goodbye from her, his eyes were on you.
“Well, look at you!” He smiled at you warmly and you felt something flip inside you. “How did you recognize me?”
“Oh boy, you can mask that face all you want but you can’t mask those thighs.” You smirked and he started laughing at your comment, making you feel proud of your wittiness.
“How drunk are you already?” You brought your hand up between your bodies and pressed your thumb and index together whispering “a little” so only he could hear it.
“Lucky for you, I drank almost a flask, so that makes us dangerous already. Wanna dance?” He extended his hand and you took it accepting his invitation. You suddenly felt really nervous since it was the first time you were going to slow dance with him but unbeknown to you, Bucky Barnes felt sick due to his nerves. He wanted this to work, he wanted to show you and the world that he was still capable of being a soft person, not this cold calculative soldier with a dark past.
The feeling of his hand on your waist and your other hands intertwined was intoxicating you, your bodies pressed together, the only thing between you two were your clothes. You spinned around the room for what felt like eternity, time for you had stopped and everyone had disappeared.
You burst the small bubble you were both in saying you needed a drink, Bucky stopped swaying you and with your hands still intertwined, went to the empty bar.
“I’ve always loved the Victorian Era, you know?” He said while giving you a glass full of vodka, and took a sip of his flask. “The clothes, the courting, the chivalry and all that fuss.” He smiled sadly at you thinking that you wouldn’t notice.
“If you could, would you go back in time and stay?”
He took another sip, now longer, and shook his head. “Of course not, you wouldn’t be there.” He blurted out without thinking and you just giggled at the comment.
“Oh Barnes, don’t be so dramatic. I’m sure you would make good friends there as well.” You gave him a sincere smile and he shook his head again, taking another sip of the flask, this time a long one. You looked down at your glass and twirled the straw, looking at how the ice cubes collided with each other.
“I love you.” You jerked your head up and maybe it was the alcohol clouding your mind or the denial of your own feelings, but you didn’t notice his intense gaze, filled with love and adoration.
“And I love you too, you idiot. As my best friend, you should know that already.” You placed your lips around the straw and finished the whole drink, Bucky still looking at you shocked that you rejected his feelings without you noticing.
“No, Y/n, what I mean is that I’m-”
“You are what, Barnes?” Nat cut Bucky off and you threw yourself into her arms, kissing her face and wishing her a happy birthday. “I missed you, Nat. Where were you?” You started talking to her totally ignoring your friend, who got that as his cue to leave the party. He would never blame you for not feeling the same or not even noticing his feelings, that was totally on him, but he didn’t feel well enough to stay in the party. He knew you wanted him there, to get drunk together and then both of you ending up throwing up in the sink and the toilet, but tonight he needed to breathe, he needed to get out of the crowd.
“Hey, where is going Bucky?” Asked Steve while he approached Nat and you. You frowned and looked at the entrance, catching a glimpse of Bucky’s broad shoulders and hair leaving the party. “I’ll be back in a sec.” You said and stumbled down the bar stool, heading towards the entrance half running.
“We both know they are not coming back, right?” Steve said to Nat, a strong nod and a sigh answered his comment.
You ran as fast as your drunken state let you but before you could notice you slipped with the dress and fell.
“FUCK” You screamed to the empty hall and took off your heels and gloves, standing up trying not to fall again on your ass. Bucky was nowhere to be seen so you headed to his room, your head spinning due to the alcohol.
“What are you doing here?” Bucky startled you, making you lose balance but he caught you before you could fall again.
“I was just checking that you got to your room safely, since you know, you get lost and all that.” You laughed at his fake hurt expression and straightened your clothes. You noticed that he had taken off his mask and that you were still wearing yours. “Why did you leave?”
“I’m feeling a bit sick, I think I drank too mu-”
“James, if you don’t tell me what the fuck is wrong I’ll torture you until you do. The drinking excuse is the worst you could’ve used with me.”
Bucky sighed defeated, he knew he had to get it off his chest, after three years carrying this on his own, he needed to let the words out, he needed you to know. He reached for the laces of your mask and took it off, placing a strand of hair behind your ear and cupping your cheek.
“I love you, Y/n.” You rolled your eyes in fake annoyance just to mess up with him.
“Baby, we already established that I lov-”
“Y/n, you are not listening. I am in love with you. I want to be your best friend, your lover, your partner in crime and your drunk buddy.”
You stared at him wide eyed, not knowing what to answer or to do. He caressed your cheek with his thumb and you gasped at the feeling, making Bucky think that you were rejecting the act. You stopped him from moving his hand and he leaned in, his lips brushing yours lightly.
“Either you kiss me or I faint, so make a m-” And just like that, his lips crashed against yours with a passion and hunger you’ve never felt in your entire life. He pressed you against the door, the stupid huge dress stopping you from feeling anything. Your brain finally woke up and you realized what was going on. Bucky Barnes loved you, he was in love with you. And you were in love with him. You pulled away and stopped him, making him step backwards scared that he did something you didn’t want to.
“You love me?” You really asked him, thinking that maybe your brain was betraying you. He nodded and looked away, not wanting to see the rejection in your eyes.
“Hey coward, look at me.” You held his chin and forced him to look at you. “I love you too, always have. I was just too damn scared to admit it to even myself.” He smiled and kissed you again, this time slower, pouring every ounce of love he had for you in the kiss.
“What now?” He asked you once he pulled away to breathe. He had his hand on the back of your neck, caressing your skin with his thumb.
“As much as I’d love you to fuck me against every surface on that room, I am drunk and tired and I need to process everything.” He nodded and waited for you to come up with what you wanted to do next. “So you are going to take this dress off me carefully cause I can’t do it on my own and it’s expensive as fuck, you are going to give me one for your shirts and we are sleeping, together.” He nodded again and smiled, leaning in again to give your lips a small peck.
“Consider it done, asshole.”
super kids pair dynamics
note that when i say “pair” i dont mean Ship Pairing its just every possible duo in this group, minus jack jack, because everyone other than vi and dash’s dynamic w him is “you are baby”
just so this has some semblance of organization, it’s gonna go in alphabetical order. so chance > dash > gigi > rose > tony > victor > violet. i’d do minny but i think i’ll leave that to ramon and em to decide since she’s their character and they’d know her better than i do!
chance & dash - obvious but theyre Boyfriends once theyre older. at present in canon they just have baby crushes on each other but neither has realized it yet. they share a brain cell, and i mean that in both the Dumbass way and in the “their minds are so in sync its crazy” way. they name their children by mashing their own names together. that’s their wavelength
chance & gigi - they get along pretty well i think. gigi uses some of his morphs as inspiration for new gadgets, like lizard-esque wall climbing gloves & shoes. he likes to sit and watch her work sometimes
chance & rose - barely know each other. their super suits are both green i guess
chance & tony - while chance is chaos enough for dash, he’s also got a more reserved side, and it comes out when he talks with his in-law-in-law tony. they are both dating a parr and that says enough. they probably watch the same tv shows
chance & victor - doesn’t really like the guy. he eventually slightly warms up to him but he’s the one victor targeted in the first place, so he’s always gonna be on the defense around him. for a while, anyway. victor proves himself eventually and the two are never exactly close, but chance knows victor’s upbringing was Bad
chance & violet - they have kind of a sarcastic relationship. he is able to safely snark to her without getting called a wiseass. when he’s in-morph she’ll tease him by being like “prove you’re chance do a trick”. best siblings-in-law ever
dash & gigi - they get on each other’s nerves just a little bit but not too bad. he’s always willing to be the guinea pig for when she needs to test smth and she both respects and fears his gusto. she teaches him some judo moves upon request
dash & rose - they don’t know each other very well either. i dont think rose and the younger kids are very close at all
dash & tony - dash instantly thinks tony is the coolest person in the world the moment tony calls him “buddy” and he will butt in during his sister’s dates to be like “hey tony hows your day been”. tony thinks dash is a funny kid and humors him but also tries to end the convo quickly so he and vi wont try and kill each other. once dash finds out tony’s an empath hes constantly like “hey what number am i thinking of”
dash & victor - is one of the first people, along with gigi, to be on the side of “let’s give victor a chance”, surprisingly. he hasn’t forgotten what he pulled on chance but he’s also like “his dad was killed by syndrome. that can’t be easy” and kinda sorta feels a connection to how victor lashed out. victor doesn’t take dash seriously at first but seeing dash in battle one (1) time turned him around bc dangit the kid’s clever
dash & violet - chaos siblings supreme. ive already talked at length before about how much these two love each other and how they’d die for each other in an instant so i won’t get too deep into it, but they know each other better than anyone else does. they share the same trauma and they work together in hero work near-seamlessly, despite how much they bicker in their everyday life
gigi & rose - softd for each other. rose needs someone who’s super understanding (lol) about the super thing, since she’s so skittish and defensive about it, and gigi’s had a toe in the super world her whole life bc of lucius. they have nice quiet convos while doing diff stuff in the same room and also theyre girlfriends. the only time the phrase “soft uwu wlw” is allowed
gigi & tony - “the only people violet parr is soft for” squad unite. they have a two-person book club where they #stan jane eyre and they also share turtlenecks bc theyre the same size. they try and pair up as partners in science class whenever possible
gigi & victor - supported victor’s second chance early on, partly because she had almost no hand in what he did other than being kidnapped. she’s sympathetic to him mostly on a hunch. she might invite him to her and tony’s book club later and introduce him to gothic literature. he thinks she’s suspiciously nice to him and is slightly defensive around her at first
gigi & violet - the definition of wlw solidarity. ride or fucking die. see the adventures of violet and dash book 2 for the love jewelry they made for each other. when vi’s not fighting crime with her usual partner dash, she almost always teams up w gigi
rose & tony - they have drama class together and have a light-hearted friendship. one day during an improv exercise in class one of them messed a sentence up and started laughing and the other joined and the teacher had to intervene bc they couldnt stop giggling. when she gets anxious and tony senses it he puts a hand on her shoulder and she appreciates it
rose & victor - these two have an unlikely bond because of their weird and stressful family situations. in general, she opens up a little bit before he does, and sorta relates to his closed-off-ness. so it’s either her or gigi that usually offers him an extra cookie or w/e at first
rose & violet - had a crush on her when they first met bc shes a fuckin lesbian. violet was immediately rose’s wingwoman when she met gigi tho. they probably have philosophical debates when they hang out, which is usually taking a walk through the park or going to the zoo
tony & victor - tony’s actually ends up being victor’s closest friend. since he’s an empath he can tell that victor’s being sincere when he eventually says he’s sorry to the others, and besides rose, tony’s the one that’s the furthest removed from what happens in the books. so he’s kind to victor, and victor’s not as defensive around him cause he figures his kid’s a wimp and couldn’t lie about trying to get me arrested if he tried. but yeah this is probably the person victor gets along best with
tony & violet - this is another dynamic i’ve talked about at length before but the TLDR is that he’s constantly amazed by her even before he finds out she’s a super, and him being the most “normal” one out of all the kids is comforting to violet. i hesitate to be like “she likes feeling normal” but she does like feeling grounded and loved by someone she can just relax and take a break from Super Stuff with. they’re each other’s superheroes
violet & victor - she’s the most Sus of him when he comes back, and he’s not exactly keen on her either. she only agrees to give him a second chance because of what tony says in his favor. but after working with each other for a long time, they both respect and trust each other. like when theyre adults, if you asked either of them about the other, theyd be like “i’d defend them in battle, and i know they’d do the same for me”
Walking The Wire (106/?)
Summary: Tony Stark always knew about Peter Parker. He didn’t know that Peter was going to get superpowers and become Spider-Man, but he always knew about Peter because Peter was his son.
This will span from pre-Iron Man up through the rest of the MCU (eventually including Infinity War) and will be for the most part canon compliant except where I’ve taken some liberties and interpreted canon a certain way.
Pairings: Pepper/Tony, Tony/Steve (endgame), Tony/Mary (past)
A/N: If you want me to tag you when I post new chapters let me know. This fic is also on AO3
I used Collider’s MCU timeline to stay canon and the title of this fic is an Imagine Dragons song that is just so fitting for Peter and Tony
Chapter One Hundred Five
It turned out that having Michelle know he was Spider-Man and acknowledging that she did was a good thing. Michelle was just all that much better about covering for Peter. Just the other day when they’d gone on a small class trip and Peter had spotted a mugging happening, it was Michelle that had distracted everyone long enough for Peter to get away unnoticed and then again when he rejoined them.
The only thing about Michelle was that unlike Ned, she actually seemed concerned about what Peter got up to. She worried. It was weird especially when she pretended that she didn’t in person and then sent him long rambling texts about how he wasn’t being careful and how close he came to getting injured or hurting others.
It was all on par with how much coverage Spider-Man had started to get from the media which Peter didn’t particularly like. At first it had seemed cool to be mentioned on the news all the time and to have articles about Spider-Man popping up everywhere. His favorite were the YouTube videos since those were usually fun to watch mostly because they weren’t all made by anyone truly professional. But after a while, even those got old. It got annoying. Tony definitely disliked it.
“I just don’t like how interested everyone seems to be in finding out your identity,” his dad said while they were tinkering in the workshop. “It’s none of their business.”
Peter liked listening to him rant. It was kind of hilarious especially when one considered Tony’s own media presence basically his entirely life.
“And it’s not like we’ve announced that you’re an Avenger or anything but some reason they just seem to associate you with us.”
That’s when Steve spoke up. “That’s because they see you out and about with him all the time as Iron Man and Iron Man is an Avenger.”
“That isn’t the point,” Tony said.
“And also, Peter’s the only hero that’s popped up that has a hidden identity. Gives everyone a mystery to want to solve.”
Tony muttered some more and Peter tried not to laugh. He could tell that Steve was amused too.
Since all that stuff with The Vulture, Tony still did tend to show up when Peter needed help. He was better about letting Peter be involved in things especially when they didn’t involve alien tech. They had stopped some weird guy with what seemed to be some sort of power -- Tony said he was probably an inhuman -- just the other day from destroying a big portion of Greenwich Village. The guy hadn’t been doing it on purpose it turned out it. It was just that his powers were so unstable. Peter had been glad to have Tony there because he didn’t a single person could have handled everything that instance entailed. Even Vision had made an appearance for that. In the end they had subdued the guy and Tony had handed him over to a the new Shield.
“But also, it’s not just the identity thing,” Tony kept on, “it’s that there’s varying degrees of coverage. He’s good for the city. He’s a vigilante. He’s an Avenger. He’s not. It’s ridiculous. At least no one seems to have put together that I built your suit. Or at least no one’s written an article about it yet. And can you imagine if anyone found out I had a son? Because then they would definitely start questioning whether you were the one under the mask and then my parenting would come into question.”
It was no surprise to Peter that Ned loved it. He had a whole collection on articles written about him and he would send Peter the more outrageous ones and Peter would pass those on to Steve because Steve loved reading them too. May seemed to agree with Tony on the whole matter. But then, May also tended to try and get Peter to quit being Spider-Man altogether whenever she saw him and it wasn’t something that was ever likely to stop. She liked to bring up questions about school and girlfriends and college and how Spider-Man wouldn’t be an ideal addition to any of those as her way of asking him to stop.
As he stepped out of Midtown one afternoon, Peter was surprised when he spotted Tony complete with a baseball cap, sunglasses, a grin, and a thermal cup that probably contained coffee, leaning against a sleek black car that at least proved to be his least flashy. Still, no matter how hard he was trying, he looked out of place and people were noticing him.
Michelle who had walked out with him spotted Tony with no problem and when Peter glanced at her he could practically see her thinking. Her left eyebrow rose and she stared him down.
“Is Tony Stark actually picking you up right now?”
Peter shook his head. “Nope. It’s all in your imagination. You’re hallucinating.”
Michelle laughed -- cackled more like and Peter grinned back at her as she nudged him and rolled her eyes. Ned appeared then, busy with his backpack as he walked, and only managing to not run into anyone because anyone in his path dodged him.
“Hey, what’s going on?”
“Your boy here is being picked up by Tony Stark. Fancy that. I bet Flash will be jealous.”
“Which is why I’m going to go before anyone else notices,” Peter said and rushed away. When he looked back Michelle waved and Ned grinned at him and gave him thumbs up.
“Hey,” Peter said when he was close enough.
“Hi, kiddo,” his dad said, “I was in the area so I figured I’d come by and get you. I was also sort of craving this apple crostini this one restaurant has so we’re going to have to make a stop for that. Up for it?”
Peter rolled his eyes but nodded. “Sure.”
They got into the car and when Peter looked out the window he realized that a few people were watching them. Someone must have caught onto Tony being there. Not that it really mattered since everyone knew that Peter had a Stark Internship. Of course, no intern could have ever expected for Tony Stark himself to show up to pick them up from school. He was definitely going to hear about it.
The restaurant Tony took them to was a hole in the wall that no one would have ever noticed and yet it was busy. A well known secret. Nevertheless, they were seated at a discrete table towards the back without much wait which told Peter that Tony had called ahead.
“Why are we really here?” Peter asked.
“I told you -- apple crostini. Also, remind me to order one to go because Steve would kill us if we don’t bring him one back. We used to come here sometimes back in the day.”
“Oh,” Peter said.
His dad never really talked about how he and Steve had come to be and Peter didn’t really have any questions or want to know details, but he loved when Tony slipped in something that hinted at a past memory. It made him realize how normal it all was in some ways. Sometimes, it was still shocking to think about Iron Man and Captain America in a romantic relationship or to consider that they were getting married until he thought about them as Tony and Steve -- his dad and his dad’s fiance.
“Truth is, I wanted to catch up with you,” Tony said. “Things have been a bit crazy lately. Haven’t really spent much time with you on our own. Steve or someone else is usually around.”
Peter hadn’t -- no, he’d noticed, it was just that he hadn’t minded. He’d never expected to have Tony to himself all the time and had felt lucky when he did even if then it had been broken up to a few hours here and there and now he was living in the tower and had access to Tony all the time and it didn’t really matter that there were other people around.
“We can start with, who was the girl?”
Peter rolled his eyes. “Who, Michelle? I’ve told you about her. She’s the one that figured out I’m Spider-Man all on her own.”
“MJ. You said someone named MJ did.”
“Michelle Jones. She likes to be called MJ. Anyway, that was her.”
Tony nodded. The waitress approached then and Tony ordered the apple crostinis and remembered to order the one to go as well without Peter needing to remind him.
“So she’s super smart and observant,” Tony said.
“Yup. Definitely knew it was you waiting for me. Actually, I think a few people figured it out.”
Tony shrugged with a grin. “And they can all wonder about what your internship entails once more.”
Tony started asking about how things were going in school next and Peter filled him in even though he was sure he’d mentioned some of it to him in passing over the last few weeks.
The apple crostini turned out to be amazing. He was in the middle of telling Tony about what they’d started working on in physics when it arrived and after one bite of the crunchy and flaky crust with the warm apple filling and the ice cream and Peter was in heaven.
“I told you so,” Tony said.
“This is the best thing ever,” Peter said.
It was nice to have some time on his own with Tony. Tony told him all about how the board members were driving him and Pepper crazy because they didn’t like that Tony’s concern wasn’t all about profit when it came to the prosthetic division even when it came to custom projects.
“It’s like they don’t understand how good the PR is although that obviously isn’t why we’re doing it.”
“But it’s your company,” Peter said.
“Pepper and I own more than half of the shares of the company, sure, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have to deal with the board of directors. It’s the side of business that I don’t particularly like. Pepper is awesome at it. It’s all stuff you’ll have to learn about if you want to take over the company one day--”
“Um, what?” Peter said and almost choked on a piece of apple.
Tony chuckled. “Won’t be for a while and it’s up to you if you want it. It’s not an obligation, you know. You could find your own Pepper Potts and have someone else run it if you prefer. I rather you do what you want than what you think I want you to do so--”
Peter had sort of forgotten about how Tony had broken the news to him what felt like ages ago even though it hadn’t even been a full year yet. He’d forgotten how Tony told him that he would inherit everything as if that had been the right way to let him know that Tony was his father. Since then, Peter hadn’t really thought about it or the reality of what it actually meant which meant that it was overwhelming information to take in.
“I -- that’s--”
“What, did you forget that I’m Tony Stark? You’re my heir, kid, to this whole crazy company and whatever else I’ve accumulated.”
“But what if -- what if you and Steve have kids?” Peter asked.
It wasn’t something he’d considered before that moment, but wasn’t that what people did after they got married? They went and had kids. Peter was aware that Tony and Steve were both men but there were ways around that -- surrogacy or adoption or other weirder things. It was possible. Peter didn’t know if -- well, he didn’t know if he’d be thrilled about it if they did have kids. He felt weird even just thinking about it.
“Not really something we’ve discussed,” Tony said and he seemed to notice that Peter seemed uncomfortable. “And even if we did decide to have kids it wouldn’t be for a long while, Pete.”
“Oh,” Peter said. But they could still have some even if Peter was fully grown when they did--
Tony grabbed his hand. Tony’s hand was warm and familiar and Peter allowed himself to calm down. “Peter, you’re my kid. I -- I love you, kid. Not something that will ever change. I’ll always be here for you no matter what. Even if Steve and I adopt a hundred kids. You’re still always going to be my son and you’re the most important person in my life.”
Peter hadn’t expected Tony to say that. Those three words. Tony had said them before, he was sure, but Peter couldn’t actually remember. He certainly hadn’t expected them in the moment.
“I don’t think even Steve will want to adopt that many kids,” Peter said.
“If he even wants to,” Tony said with a shrug. “I’m not saying I wouldn’t be opposed to another kid -- it’s just I’d be fine with just you.”
“Oh,” Peter said. “But you didn’t get to raise me. Not really. Don’t you want that -- the whole baby thing?” Peter didn’t really understand why people were so keen on babies. He knew they were cute but they also cried and made messes and couldn’t really do anything and he actually -- he couldn’t see Tony or even Steve dealing with a baby well.
“That doesn’t matter. Clearly, it doesn’t. You’re still my kid, Peter, and as has been established you clearly need me a lot too no matter what your age is.”
Peter nodded. “I kind of do,” Peter said and then because he couldn’t say anything else, “I, um, I love you too, dad.”
He thought that Tony’s eyes got a bit misty at that and Peter realized that he’d never actually said it out loud before. But it was true. It had been true for a while. Peter loved Tony. He loved his dad and everything that he was and did for Peter. He was one of the best people he knew and Peter would forever be glad that he knew who his father was and that it was someone as amazing as Tony Stark.
how would season 2 of riverdale look like if you were writing it? (also please don't hold back on the word count for this ask)
everyones gay. the end.
no ok i will try and go for a realistic version of what i think season 2 could have been. i mean personally i think its realistic to have all the parents be gay but whatever. (*edit from future briana. lol i aint make this shit realistic everybody G A Y) also this is probably gonna be all over the place cuz i have a lot of problems with a lot of characters story arcs so just...we’ll see what happens. also also this is obviously focusing on the parents im sure the kids will get mentioned at some point in regards to certain storylines but for the most part i dont watch them so i dont know what the fuck theyre doing unless it pertains to an adult. ok here we go (i hope you know what you asked for by saying dont hold back on word count...)
lets just get the obvious out of the way FRED AND FP WOULD HAVE SO MANY FUCKING SCENES IF I WAS RUNNING SHIT LIKE THEYD PROBABLY BECOME THE MAIN CHARACTERS SUCK A DICK ITS THE SHOW I DESERVE I DONT CARE WHAT YALL WANT
like from season 1 i had this vision of how i wanted s2 to play out
fp was gonna find out fred was shot, alice was gonna go visit him in jail about it or theyd meet up when he got out and they were gonna team up to avenge fred. thats what shouldve happened ok fight me. THE ONLY APPROPRIATE F*LICE INTERACTION
and then fp was gonna take care of fred. they were gonna work on their relationship. shit was gonna get dramatic but it was gonna be beautiful because ultimately they would realize theyre both the best friends each other ever had and they were better together than apart.
and thats how the whole black hood thing would be dealt with and we never had to hear about it again
and then with the introduction of hiram and everything going down with the lodges buying freds company + fps dealings with hiram and hermione in the past and the bad blood there that was just...completely dropped... fred and fp were gonna come up with this master plan to screw over hiram and get the company back and then theyd go back to working construction together and happy days would be on the horizon.
with that being said.... hiram and hermiones storyline this season is honestly the only interesting worthwhile thing. im not mad at it
im a little mad at archie joining the mafia like for one, anyone who knows anything about mob culture, you dont let outsiders in. and if you do, its not that fucking easy. its like “run some errands for me let me put you through some tests. ok youre family” no. i mean i get we’re on the cw but this was really the ...not even pg13 this was some g rated mob shit on archies part but whatever
lets hop on over to the coopers
i called from the beginning that chic was gonna be up to some bullshit and the narrative thats going right now with hal being painted as the bad guy and running off to penelope and alice running into fps arms is absolute utter Garbage™
what SHOULDVE happened (and granted the story is still playing out but lochlyns got a new show and thats very sus to me so... im expecting the worst) is chic comes in all innocent at first and maybe hals still put off, reasonably so, but this clearly means a lot to alice so he sticks it out. and as chic lets his freak out and the family has to deal with this, they grow closer and become more bonded and alice and hal become stronger as a couple and when all is said and done they eventually decide to go to couples counseling or family counseling and everybody works out their bullshit and they all start their journey to becoming a stable fucking family unit
ok now penelope. she’s another one that im actually for the most part enjoying her story but this whole hal business?? unrealistic
what they needed to do was just let her have her ho business and live her life
and also tell cheryl to stop running her mouth
like i really dont need them to have a great relationship personally like fine if they did whatever but cheryl kinda annoys me so penelope telling her whats up is no skin off my back
oh and this whole homophobic business? NOT IN MY SEASON 2
or if they really wanted to keep this contrived ass heather story to give cheryl some depth or whatever, then the least that could happen is it be revealed that penelope is gay herself and was scorned by an ex lover (alice) and was taking it out on her daughter
and then that could come to light and they talk about it and penelope eventually accepts she’s gay and she can be open about it now and she goes on to get herself a beautiful rich powerful girlfriend and my girl pen is set bitch !!! (i will also only accept alice and hal breaking up if alice too comes out and ends up with penelope)
somebody was coming out of my version of s2 gay i mean listen i could also write you a thing about how fp and fred could still get together ...
YOU KNOW WHAT LETS FUCKING TALK ABOUT HOW FP AND FRED COULD GET TOGETHER WHY THE FUCK NOT ITS MY SEASON 2 IMMA DO WHAT I WANT  ITS 20GAYTEEN
fps been spending all this time around fred nursing him back to health after the shooting
and theyve been able to work out all their unresolved bullshit
plus them teaming up to take hiram down
theyve been spending many a cold winter night together
old flames are rekindling
they both notice they each keep finding little reasons to touch one another
theyre stealing glances when they think the other one isnt paying attention
they start to notice how fucking happy theyve been together theyve both become so playful and intimate with one another
theyre at pops one night having milkshakes
fred has whipped cream on his face
fps trying to tell him where but fred keeps missing it
theyre both laughing
fp reaches over and swipes his thumb softly over the corner of freds mouth
their laughter starts to die down as they both realize theres still this spark of electricity between them
its been sitting there under the surface this whole time waiting to blow up
next thing they know fps leaning over the table to kiss fred
its soft and sweet and gentle but filled with such passion and urning its been so long since anyones touched them like this and god all the memories of their secret high school hookups come flooding back its like no time at all has passed they just fit together so well
ANYWAY now that fps with fred and this whole north v south thing is going on its creating a whole bunch of tension and like imagine all the drama that would come from the leader of the serpents dating riverdale mayor fred andrews oh my god ??? sign me the absolute fuck up where is THAT iconic storyline
speaking of fred
where the fuck is that pill addiction huh??? we gotta throw that in for drama ok i NEED. IT.
and then mary gets called into town and fp mary and archie are coming together to get fred through this. holding a fucking INTERVENTION ???
alice can show up too why not
bring hal
hermione maybe? like i know in her heart she probably cares but maybe dont have your ex gf who is also a mob boss show up at your intervention....
although that would make for a good fp x hermione showdown
hermiones invited
what else do we need....
i need alice and hermione
i dont know in what capacity i just know i need it
we definitely need a moms night out episode which would be hilarious because it just ends with alice and penelope making out and hermione and mary making out and sierra is facetiming tom like “please come pick me up”
speaking of sierra i dont mind this storyline with tom i just wish we could..actually see it...
OH I ALMOST FORGOT SOMETHING SO IMPORTANT HOW DARE I! I NEED FP RAISING HIS SERPENT KIDS !!!! AND MY S2 INCLUDES JOAQUIN OK I MISS HIM JUST GIVE ME FP TRYING TO HERD JOAQUIN AND FANGS AND TONI AND SWEET PEA AND I GUESS JUGHEAD CAN COME ALONG TOO SINCE HES ACTUALLY FPS SON... WHATEVER
god i just want fp and fred having date night down at the whyte wyrm and tonis pestering them about sharing stories from high school and how they fell in love and she wants to hear all the hot gossip and jugheads like “no gross i dont want to hear this”but joaquin an fangs and sweet pea are ENTHRALLED like they wanna hear everything too they wanna know about all the stupid shit fred and fp used to do to land in detention
OH OH AND THEN WE CAN HAVE A WHOLE THING WITH PENELOPE AND CHERYL HAVING A HEART TO HEART ABOUT PENELOPE BEING IN LOVE WITH ALICE IN HIGH SCHOOL AND WE GET PARALLELS OF THEM AND CHONI
i told yall this shit was gonna be all over the place
hell maybe even gladys played by neve campbell would show up at one point so fp can see his fucking daughter thatd be neat
and gladys and fp decide to end things for good and go through with the divorce but its amicable and theyre friends. she could move back to riverdale but then im thinking of jellybean having to be taken out of school... so maybe they stay in toledo but gladys and fp come up with a plan for holidays and summer vacation and its all just very pleasant ok.
if we want to go with the tragic heterosexual version of riverdale, i fully support gladys and fp getting back together btw its what god wants
but so long as we’re living in my lala fantasy land.... fp ends up with fred and gladys and fp call truce
alice and fp would be F R I E N D S
no ones hiding no dead bodies
no ones making weird inappropriate comments about leaving spouses
alice is not going serpent!alice on everyone
no
gross
get out of my face
theyre friends and they banter a lot but theres still a deep PLATONIC love there for each other
ok i think i covered everything i wanted.....
am i delusional?
maybe
but is my version more fun?
absolutely
Imagine if Sam and Dean Behaved Like Normal Brothers
We can argue all we want about whether or not Sam and Dean’s toxic co-dependency is a good thing or not, but some things are for certain, the show would be boring, and neither brother would have lived past Season 2.  I dont think anyone thinks co-dependency is actually a good thing, but at least for this story, it’s necessary. Real life brother can be very close, and love each other deeply, but I have never met any that would give up their significant other for their brother, so if Sam and Dean were “normal” we could safely assume theyd both be married by now. Dean to Lisa because he wouldnt have bothered going back to hunting when Sam asked, and if he did, he would have ditched Sam when Lisa expressed how twisted and tangled their relationship was. This is all of course if they even managed to make it to S6 which I dont think they would. When Sam died in S2, Dean may have loved Sam enough to become suicidal when he died, but no way would he love him enough to sell his soul for one more year with him. If somehow they managed to make it though, Sam would have gone back to Amelia when she gave him the ultimatum. But more than likely, Sam would have gone back to school and not worried so much about leaving Dean alone to hunt by himself.  So best case scenario, we’d have a couple of realistic brothers, with wives, probably kids, talking on the phone to each other maybe once a week, getting together to watch sports once in a while when they didnt have to do something with their families. If either of them, or both remained hunters, they’d be dead in no time with no one willing to go beyond the call of duty to keep the other alive.  This is the toxic part of the co-dependence, when either of them get self destructive, or world destructive to save the other. They dont demonstrate this level of love for anyone else on the show, not their Dad, Bobby, Cas, or anyone. When these people died, the brothers were very sad, but they just let them go. “Let the dead stay dead” has applied to everyone else in their lives except each other.  So, what makes these two so co dependent that they just cant fathom the idea of living without the other? I don’t think the show ever explained it well enough beyond showing us they could only depend on each other growing up, and throwing in that they’re soulmates. This sheds light on it, yes, but still doesn’t explain it. Both things could be true for real life brothers, and it would probably mean they are closer than normal brothers, but still not be Winchester level of closeness. It may or may never be explained, but it will always be a big question for me. When Season 11 rolled around and Sam gave that speech in the Hospital that they need to stop breaking the world to save each other because  they’ve forgotten they’re supposed to be saving people, not just each other (paraphrased) I thought maybe they would stop their toxic co dependence and act like real brothers, and they kind of did for a while, they got along better, had some fun together, but then Sam was willing to let Lucifer/cas touch his soul to get enough power to bring Dean back, which could very likely have killed him. And then there was Red Meat, where Dean though Sam was dead and his first response was to let the werewolves come and fight them to the death... when he was talked out of it, he decided saving Sam was the only important thing in the world and he ODed to try to make it happen. Whether he died or not, he was determined to save Sam. Meanwhile, Sam isnt dead but he’s gut shot and bleeding profusely, in a shit ton of pain. Sure he could have stayed there and waited for Dean, Dean comes back for him, thats just how it is, and he can fight off a couple of left over werewolves and just tend to himself, but no, Dean is in danger because Corbin is a werewolf. Did Sam trust that Dean could handle Corbin alone? Nope, he needed him, or at least needed to know. When Sam wasnt sure Dean heard him say Corbin is a werewolf, Sam risked his life to go help Dean, and shot the bad guy himself. So yeah, neither have learned yet to drop the self destructiveness. Come the end of S11, Sam does, very reluctantly, let Dean go alone to face, and try to kill Amara, which would kill him in the process. For a moment I think this OOC for Sam, until he gets home and Toni is waiting there with her gun drawn. What does Sam do? Not the normal Sam thing to draw his gun, tell her to drop hers, and either take over the situation or shoot her, he almost draws his gun but doesnt, no, he believes Dean is dead, he has no shits to give anymore, so he approaches this woman, bare handed  taunting her to fire “we both know you’re not gonna pull the trigger” Sam’s just ready to die. Thats all.  Season 12 comes. Theres no real self destructive behavior between them, in fact Dean seems a little less than hellbent to find Sam, is it because now his mother’s back and he has something/someone else to live for? Maybe, but now that makes me sad, but fast forward to First Blood, and we’re back to self destructive. Both brothers make a blood pact to guarantee that at least one of them lives. Both think they’ll be the one to die for the other. but fortunately, that doesnt come to pass. Then only 2 episodes later, Sam is risking his life by going into the home of powerful witches, alone, to try to save Dean’s life,  when he gets captured, Dean, who up till now has forgotten everyone in his life, even his own name, still remembers Sam. Dean makes it into the house, no longer remembering how to speak, he doesn’t seem to recognize Sam by sight, but completely remembers “Brother” and kills the witch.  If that wasnt enough to show us they are still toxicaly co-dependent, in Who We Are, when trapped in the bunker with maybe a day left to live before they suffocate, one last self destructive move was made. The grenade launcher. These boys where not just willing, but were happy at the idea that if they didnt get out together, they’d GO out together! The looks on their faces was priceless wasnt it? So much love, pride and excitement in the idea of making it out together, or dying together! So, Ill go on record to say that yes, toxic co-dependency is bad, and I dont recommend it, but in the case of the Winchesters, it’s not only wonderful, but 100% necessary to make the show as good as it is.
(sorry for long post, I couldnt get “keep reading” to not go to the bottom of the page)
I read a fic a long time ago where the characters somehow got cursed or something to have all the things that people said about them appear on their skin (like if someone called them 'cute' theyd have'cute' stamped on their hand or somewhere else. i was thinking about this somehow happening to ace and the wbp (or mas or the asl), like they eat a crazy grand line fruit, and for the most part its pretty innocuous and funny, except that ace has stuff like 'should have been drowned at birth' 1/2
on his face (basically a lot of bad things people said from when he was a kid doing that ‘what if gold roger had a son’ thing. Maybe he would try to cover up, since there would some pretty incriminating stuff on there? basically id just really like some hurt/comfort with ace and sabo/marco/wbp in this scenario. he is a sad boy (sorry this all long and confusing, you dont have to do it at all if you dont want) 2/2
Oh, I’ve read those too! There was a Kakashi one I loved, I think, and a real good Tony Stark one! It’s a fun concept.
Also I got, uh, a bit carried away. So, y’know, sorry in advance. (edit: now with prequel)
“I’m not sick,” Ace says stubbornly. “I’m a fire logia. I can’t get sick.” And then he sneezes, sharp and sudden.
“Bad timing, with that sickness you don’t have,” Thatch says. “We’ve still got two more days out here.”
“I know; don’t worry,” Ace says, scooting back from the fire. “I’ll just run hot for a while and be fine.”
“Does that work?” Haruta asks, leaning away from him and the heat he’s suddenly throwing.
“Dunno,” Ace answers. “I haven’t been sick since I ate my fruit. Honestly thought I was immune.”
He doesn’t look happy, and Thatch can see why. Being sick is always miserable, and worse if you’re not used to it. He knows he packed an extra blanket, though, because Marco denies his nesting tendencies and yet always ends up stealing everyone’s bedding. He digs it out and hands it over. Ace glances at him and he shrugs. “If you want it,” he offers, and sets it on the ground.
Ace reaches for it, then pauses to stare at his hand for a second. Thatch doesn’t get a chance to follow suit because suddenly the blanket is flipped open and wrapped around bare shoulders.
Thatch and Marco share a worried glance. Ace never uses blankets, and he doesn’t accept help that easily either. And Ace isn’t even using it like a blanket; he’s got it wrapped around his back and over his head like a makeshift cape.
“You sure you’re feeling all right?” Thatch ventures.
“I can’t be sick,” Ace says, but he’s just a lump of blanket now. “I can’t.”
“Because you’re fire?” Marco asks.
“I’m from East Blue,” Ace says like it’s an explanation, but it really isn’t.  It’s interesting, but as far as Thatch knows, there’s nothing about East Blue that makes its residents any hardier. The five of them exchange glances, but they must agree with him, because Haruta drawls out, “Yeah…?”
SThe lump of blanket twitches and hesitates but finally says, “I had the crawl.”
“The what now?” Vista asks. Thatch stops to think, but there’s actually not many on the crew from East Blue; it’s by far the most peaceful sea.
But Marco makes an oh kind of noise. “There’s a disease in East Blue,” he says, because of course he knows. “Childhood thing, like chicken pox or flower fever. It’s really bad but almost never fatal, yoi. It compromises the immune system for the rest of your life, though,” and there’s some worried looks until he adds, “not harmfully! But when you get sick, it comes back, yoi.”
“Oh!” Namur interrupts, “It’s the ink sickness!” Marco arches an eyebrow at him, and he nods. “I’ve seen it before in certain parts of Paradise. That’s out East Blue way; probably spread from the Grand Line somehow.”
That sounds likely, actually. It’s the kind of thing that makes only Grand Line levels of sense, after all, but Namur’s not done. “We were taught it was a curse that went wrong, back in my tribe. Some rich man in a castle said something rude, and he was cursed to wear other people’s words on his skin or something.”
Marco nods and takes the story back. “The Scrawl means that if Ace is sick, he’ll be covered in ink till he’s better, yoi. It’s all stuff people will have said about him to his face, isn’t it?”
Ace says nothing, but Namur nods. “Stuff said about you in your hearing that you believe,” he clarifies. “My niece had it as a kid. Always real proud when she gets sick because she says wearing complements is the best accessory.”
The blanket twitches again, and Thatch steps in. “We’re gonna respect Ace’s privacy,” he announces. “If he’s really sick and he gets all decorated up with complements, we’re not gonna try to read them, okay?”
He glances around, but everyone’s staring at him. “What?” he asks.
Marco shakes his head. “Didn’t expect that from you, is all,” he says, and Thatch puffs himself up.
“I’m very mindful of people’s privacy!” he says, and everyone laughs at him. Well, that’s not nice at all, but at least it broke the mood. “I am!”
“Sure you are,” Ace says, finally talking again. He’s got the blanket pulled back enough to show his face and it’s just as it always was. “You respect privacy, and I’m never hungry.”
Thatch clutches his chest and falls over with his other wrist over his eyes. “Betrayed!” he gasps, because if keeping eyes on him is what’s getting Ace to calm down, he will gladly flop around overdramatically for the rest of the night.
And it works, because as they chat and pick at Thatch, Ace’s makeshift hood comes down. He falls asleep well before the rest of them, and whether it’s a narcolepsy attack or just exhaustion, no one says anything when Marco leans over to tug the blanket into place, covering all his skin.
Thatch blinks himself awake in the morning light. Right, they’re outside, coming back from that thing–right. He yawns and sits up; he’s never been slow to rise. Years as head chef on a pirate ship mean he’s generally up first.
Sure enough, everyone else is asleep. It’s false dawn, so it’s to be expected. He gets up anyway, stretching and looking around.
The fire’s gone out; someone must’ve banked it last night. He goes over to check on Ace, but the kid is curled into as small a ball as possible. The blanket’s ridden up over his feet, though, and Thatch can see jagged black streaks even from here. He steps forward, intending to tug the blanket down, but he can’t get close; the air around Ace is painfully hot.
Well, Marco can do it when he wakes up, Thatch decides. He’s got some time to kill, anyway; may as well take a walk. He might find a good place to watch the sunrise from; that’d be nice.
Well, he doesn’t see the sunrise, but he does find a tree with a bunch of those lovely purple fruits they had back in town. He picks enough to hand around for breakfast and a few more to take back to Pops.
By the time he gets back, everyone’s awake and up. “Good morning!” he says, and starts throwing fruits at people.
Haruta catches the first one in the face, but everyone else manages to grab theirs out of the air. Namur tosses his right back, and Thatch catches it easily and passes it on to Marco to give to Ace.
He drops the rest on his blanket and rolls them up carefully to take back. When he makes room in his sack, though, his fingers come across a marker that’s always at the bottom of his pack, and he takes it out before packing the fruit in.
He walks it through his fingers as he wanders over to Marco, who’s standing above Ace. “How is he?”
Marco makes a face and together they stare down at the blanket-covered kid. “You gotta get up eventually,” Thatch tells him.
The unhappy grumbling and shifting says that Ace does not agree, and the heat he’s putting out is enough to stop Thatch from trying to, uh, help. “Look, we’ll all turn away or something, okay? You can keep the blanket.”
Ace doesn’t move, and Thatch gives up. “You do it, Marco,” he says. “You’re the fireproof one.”
“I’m not fireproof.” Marco says even as he walks right into the heat haze like it’s nothing.
“Sure,” Haruta says, walking by, and Thatch catches their wrist. “Hey, what’re you–”
Thatch holds a finger over his lips and then wiggles the marker. Haruta’s eyes light up and they nod. “Yeah, can you–”
“Shhh!”
“We ready, yoi?” Marco walks purposefully between them, trailing what’s probably Ace. Hard to tell under the blanket cloak, but there’s one hand poking out to clutch it closed with a bold BRAT across the back of it.
Thatch darts his eyes away, feeling kind of bad. He hadn’t meant to read it, really, but it’s hard not to. He lets Ace and Marco go first, shouldering his pack and falling in step with Haruta.
There’s more black peeking out of the top of Ace’s boots where the blanket doesn’t quite cover, and Thatch keeps his gaze anywhere else. It’s an awkward kind of quiet, much different from yesterday’s bawdy jokes and loud off-key marching songs. Now the only sounds are the nature around them and occasional violent sneezes.
Haruta tugs at his sleeve, and they pass the marker back and forth for awhile. Thatch waves it behind them and Vista reaches out to take it, too. He promptly tries to use it on Namur, and there’s a quick scuffle.
It’s loud enough for Marco to turn around, though. He walks backwards for a few steps, looking them all over. “Everything okay, yoi?”
“Just fine,” Haruta lies breezily.
Marco stares at them for a few steps, so Thatch makes a spinny-finger gesture at him. He huffs but complies, and leans in a bit to mutter something to the Ace-like thing shambling along beside him. It’s probably about how dumb they are, but that’s okay.
“How does he do it?” Vista asks. “I can feel the heat from all the way back here.”
Ace sneezes again and said heat flares, and everyone but Marco flinches and falls back a few steps. “Marco likes fire,” Thatch says, hoping he’s right. “He doesn’t mind. Probably feels right at home.”
“Any hotter and he’s gonna combust,” Haruta mutters, and like their words were a trigger, Ace sneezes once again, the heat flares,  and the blanket on his back catches fire.
They all jump and Vista says something exceptionally nasty. Marco moves in, hands hovering uselessly, and Ace whips the blanket off to beat out the flame.
Thatch wasn’t expecting it, really, which is why he doesn’t look away in time–that’s totally why. It’s not his fault, he knows, and yet when his eyes catch on the giant letters across the back of Ace’s shoulders, above his tattoo, he still feels like he’s betraying something.
He feels that for the whole time it takes to unconsciously read and process the word “monster,” and then he just goes still. Ace is turned away, stomping out the flames, and they all know at a glance what exactly it was that Ace hadn’t wanted them to see.
His tattoo stands out as much as ever, but it’s framed now. Monster at the top, all the way across both shoulders, and underneath in a beautiful scrollwork there’s should’ve been drowned at birth.
Thank god you don’t exist crawls down his ribs, and there’s one word sentiments scattered around, all stark and pretty in concept and horrifying in meaning. Thatch, for all his good intentions, can’t bring himself to look away and his ears are full of the echo of Namur’s voice saying, stuff said about you in your hearing that you believe.
“Ace,” Marco says, quiet and hurt, and Ace’s shoulders go rigid under that horrible ink. He turns slowly to face them, smouldering blanket in one fist. There’s defiance in his eyes and mistake across his freckles.
Someone next to Thatch makes a wheezing sound, but he doesn’t look to see who because when Ace turns his head and tilts his chin up in anger, they can all read should do the world a favor and die circling his throat.
He’s a tapestry of horror and cruelty, and it’s all on display. Thatch’s eyes wander and the only remotely positive things he finds are the two brothers, curved dense and close over his heart, and captain curled over one wrist.
And then Ace falters. “What…?” he says, staring at Haruta, and Thatch glances over to where he’d written family across their forehead. He winces now, but it had seemed like such a good idea at the time.
In the face of this, though, their marker attempts look stupid and insulting. “Sorry,” Thatch says, and holds out the marker. “I had it and it seemed like–I’m sorry, I didn’t know….”
Ace blinks at them. “Why would you…?” he asks, confusion plain, and that hurts almost more than the words do. Things you believe, Thatch thinks again, and he’s suddenly angry.
“Because we’re your family, Ace!” he says. “And you were sick and scared of–and we wanted to make it even! And I never had the Scrawl but I do have a marker, and if you don’t believe us enough to get our words on your skin, then cut back the damn heat and I’ll put ‘em there myself!”
Ace’s chin comes down a bit; he’s defensive but actually listening. “It doesn’t…that’s not how it works.”
“Bullshit,” Marco snaps, and Thatch tosses him the marker. He uncaps it and steps in, ignoring Ace’s flinch. “If what’s true is on your skin, yoi, then what’s on your skin is true.” And he writes family, big and bold, under his left collarbone and right over you’re a curse.
“Loved,” Thatch lists, and Ace flinches again but stays still while Marco grabs his arm to write that over print small enough that Thatch can’t read it from here.
“Cute,” Haruta adds, and Ace goes a deeper red than a fever would account for. Marco nods and puts it right under the double brother.
“Hey now,” he says, trying to pull away, but Marco’s not having it. “Hey!” he says again, but he’s not struggling, and when Marco pulls at his shoulder to spin him around, he goes.
His shoulders are tense and high when Marco puts marker to skin, but as Whitebeard goes over monster, he relaxes a bit. “This really isn’t–”
Marco draws a long line through the awful sentence below his tattoo, and then does a few more just to black it out completely. He sets to work crossing out things and writing better ones, and Ace stands there, still holding the blanket, and lets him.
And then Vista shakes himself and says, “Give him a tramp stamp.”
“What?!”
“Oh, yes, do!” Haruta adds. “Make it say ‘pretty’!”
“No!” Ace says, stepping forward and turning. “No, that’s not–we’re done…!” He’s still surrounded by a heat haze that makes it impossible to approach, but Marco steps forward anyway.
“Come back here, yoi,” he says, and Ace tries to flee.
He makes it a few steps before Marco tackles him and sits on his legs. He puts the marker to work again as Ace claws at the ground and yells about how pretty he isn’t, and he only stops to sneeze three times.
“When you’re not too hot to approach, you can return the favor,” Namur points out, and when Ace immediately goes quiet he adds, “but it was Thatch’s idea!”
“Was not!” Thatch squawks, turning on him. “Haruta drew first!”
“You gave me the marker!”
“You used it!”
And it’s the dumbest argument Thatch has had in a long time, because yeah, he’s obviously at fault. He’s got idiot on one forearm and brother on his wrist and all right at cooking, I guess, on the back of his neck in permanent marker, but up ahead, Ace is laughing, and that’s more than worth it.
Changing the Tide: An Avengers Fanfic (6/7)
Summary: Wanda Maximoff is the new girl in town and also reconciling with the death of her twin brother, Pietro. As she starts to navigate her new life she manages to stumble into friendship with a group of teens who are surprisingly similar to her
A/N: This is basically just a highschoolAU for the Avengers without powers.
(Part 1) (Part 2) (Part 3) (Part 4) (Part 5) (Part 6) (Part 7)
After Physics, Wanda walked with Clint to his locker.
As Clint stuffed books and notebooks into his locker with rather excessive amount of force he glanced over at Wanda, “Do you need to stop at your locker?” he asked, trying to make small talk.
“Yeah, just need to grab some homework real quick.” Wanda replied leaning against the locker next to his, “Do you need help?” She asked, watch him struggle to get his homework into his backpack.
“No. I’m fine,” Clint replied as he finally pushed his last textbook in with as much effort as he could seemingly muster.
Once they’d also stopped at Wanda’s locker they walked to Clint’s car, where Natasha was waiting.
“Took you long enough,” Natasha said as they all hopped in, “I thought I was going to have to send out a search party.”
“Stop being so melodramatic,” Clint retorted, rolling his eyes as he pulled out of the parking lot. When Clint pulled up to his house Wanda was surprised...it say the least. Clint’s house was a massive old farmhouse just on the outskirts of town.
“Your house is amazing,” She blurted out before she could think better of it.
“Thanks,” Clint said with a smile, “We can give you a tour, I think it’ll be awhile before other people show up.”
After Wanda’s tour of Clint’s house (with him being overzealous like a museum tour guide as Natasha followed behind rolling her eyes) the trio ended up back in the kitchen where Wanda took a seat at the island while Natasha and Clint busied themselves with preparing snacks.
“We tend to spend some time prepping for these things before everyone gets here, for some reason every single one of our friends have a massive appetite.” Clint explained to Wanda as he starts pulling bags of chips out of cupboards.
Then the doorbell rings, “I’ll get it,” Wanda said as she scrambled out of her chair and towards the front door. When she opened it she was greeted by the grinning faces of Steve, and an African-American guy that Wanda didn’t recognize.
“Hey,” Steve said, greeting Wanda, “This is Sam Wilson,” he says, introducing her to the other guy.
“Hi, nice to meet you,” Sam says with a smile.
“Well, come on in,” Wanda replied, opening the door wide enough.
“Are we the first ones here?” Steve asks as you walk into the kitchen again.
Clint nods, “Yeah, you know how everyone else is, you’re the only ones who seem to understand what it is to be punctual.”
As they guys get to talking - something about sports so you kind of zone out - Natasha pulls you aside.
“This is usually when I go into the other room and bang out my homework really quick,” She explains as she grabs your backpacks off the table and leads you into what you remember is Clint’s bedroom.
“Isn’t that why everyone hangs out? To do homework together?” Wanda asks.
“Hypothetically, but everyone’s so distracting that it’s really not going allow anyone to get work done.” Natasha tells you as she starts pulling notebooks and textbooks out of her backpack, “Don’t worry, I’m usually done before everyone else gets here so we’ll still have plenty of time to hang out with everyone.”
“That’s actually a brilliant way to do it.” Wanda says as she pulls out her own work and gets started.
As Wanda is wrapping up the last of her physics work she looks up to see that Natasha is almost done too.
“Alright, now we can rejoin the barbarians.” She announces as she shoves her books back into her bag and stands up, stretching her back slightly, “You ready?”
“I guess,” Wanda mutters in response.
“Stop being mopey, c'mon,” Tasha replies, grabbing Wanda’s hand and pulling her out of Clint’s room and back into the kitchen where a majority of the group has finally showed up.
“Alrighty weirdos, most of you have already met Wanda briefly but some of you haven’t, so we’re going to play some amazing get to know you games so that she gets to know all of us and we get to know her.”
“Oh, that’s okay we don’t have to do-” Wanda started before getting cut off.
“So everyone sit down.”
There was a scuffle as everyone sat down around Clint’s massive dining room table, chairs scraping against the floor.
“I’m mostly doing this because I’m nosy, I’m just using you as an excuse,” Natasha whispers to you as she sits down in the chair next to you before turning back to the rest of the group, “Now, obviously everyone isn’t here, but there are a lot of us, so go around and say your name, grade, and your favorite thing to do in your free time.”
Everyone nods, albeit a bit unsure of why this is something fun, “I’ll start,” She adds, “I’m Natasha, I’m a Junior, and my favorite thing to do in my free time is acrobatics at the circus school I take classes at.”
“Alright, I guess I’m next,” Clint says as he pulls one of his legs up to his chest in the chair he’s sitting in, “I’m Clint, I’m a Junior, and it’s kind of lame, but I like archery.”
“I’m Steve, I’m the grandpa of the group I guess, since I’m a Senior, and my favorite thing to do is sketch.”
“Sam, I’m a Junior, and I fly planes.”
“I’m the one and only Tony Stark, I’m a senior, and I invent stuff.”
“Is it my turn?” Bruce asks, “I’m Bruce, I’m a Junior, and honestly, I mostly just do physics homework.”
“Lame!”
“Me?” A nervous looking kid asks when Bruce prods him with his elbow, “I’m, uh, Peter, and I’m a Freshman, and kind of the same thing as Tony, I mostly just build stuff and hang out.”
“Wanda?” Clint prompts, looking over at her.
Wanda nods at him before looking around at the rest of the group, “I’m Wanda, I’m a Sophomore, and I guess...I play guitar a lot?”
Natasha gives Wanda a reassuring smile before turning back to the group, “Thank you so much guys, now let’s try something a bit more interesting, how about never have I ever?”
There’s a chorus of oohs as everyone looks around, causing Wanda to guess the game is a bit infamous with this group of friends.
“Remember when Darcy admitted she’d checked out the butts of everyone there?” Tony recollects with a smirk.
“Let’s go the opposite way this time, so Wanda, you start.” Natasha says, “And everyone put up your five fingers.”
Wanda nods as she holds up her hand before thinking for a moment, “Never have I ever...gone skinny dipping.”
Wanda watched as Natasha, Clint, Sam, and Tony all put down a finger and Tony protested, “That’s not fair, it’s a high school cliche, you have to do it!”
“Peter?”
“Never have I ever smoked in the school bathroom.”
Clint and Tony put down another finger as they both shoot Peter a dirty look, “How dare you,” Clint mutters, “We had an agreement when we made you our look out.”
“You never said I couldn’t use it against you in a game of never have I ever,” Peter points out with a grin.
“Alright, alright, Bruce?”
“Um...Never have I ever had a fake ID.”
Natasha, Tony, and surprisingly, Steve, all put down a finger.
“Steve?”
“I wanted to vote.”
“Alright,” Tony said, trying to talk over the burst of laughter from the group, “Never have I ever studied for a test.”
“That’s so lame, Tony.” Natasha mutters as the rest of you put down a finger.
“Never have I ever blacked out from drinking.” Sam says.
Wanda put down one of her fingers and so did Tony, but they were the only two.
“Wait, hold up,” Clint says, throwing up his hands, “It makes sense that Tony would get blackout drunk, hell! He probably does every weekend, but when did you?” He asks, looking over at Wanda curiously.
“After Pietro.” Wanda replies quietly as she looks down at her lap. Natasha rubs her back comfortingly as Peter looks across the table at Tony and silently asks him what’s they’re talking about. Tony mouths back ‘I’ll explain later’
“Should I go?” Steve asks, looking over at Wanda and Natasha, Wanda nods and give him a slightly reassuring nod, “Okay, never have I ever had a crush on a teacher.” He says with a grin before glancing at Sam and trying not to laugh.
“I feel like this game is just an excuse to expose things that people have said in strict confidence.” Sam says as he puts down one of his fingers and pouts.
Wanda, Bruce and Peter also put down a finger.
“Who?” Natasha asks, trying to not look two discussed by the idea of her friends being into their adult teachers.
“Ms. Cho. I was in love with her last year.” Sam replies.
“Freshman year I had crush on Ms. Hill.” Bruce admits.
“I had a crush on Ms. Friday, the french teacher.” Peter says.
“My philosophy teacher is cute.” Wanda offers.
“Mr. Jarvis? You have a crush on Mr. Jarvis?” Tony says, straighting up as he looks across the table at her.
“I should not have said that.” Wanda mutters, immediately realizing her mistake.
“You really shouldn’t have.” Tony replies.
“Anyway, Clint, it’s your turn.” Natasha says, cutting Tony’s teasing off.
“Never have I ever kissed my best friend.” Clint replies with a grin.
“You mean you’ve never kissed Nat? Aren’t you dating?”
“No...ew.”
Wanda, Steve, Tony and Bruce put down a finger.
“My life is just so exciting compared everyone else’s, this isn’t fair.” Tony complains when he realizes that he’s out of fingers.
“Cmon Tony, don’t be a sore loser about this,” Steve says with a chuckle as he stands up and walks over to Tony and pats him on the back, “But I better head out, does anyone need a ride home?” He asks as he scans the room. Everyone else declines the offer leaving Steve’s glance lingering on Wanda.
“That’s okay, I can walk home,” Wanda says with a dismissive wave of her hand.
“Wanda, do you even know how to get home from here?” Clint asks.
“Um… I could figure it out,” Wanda says, “Really! I’m fine.”
“Just let me drive you home,” Steve says, “I’m trying to be polite.”
“I-oh, alright,” Wanda mutters as she stands up and grabs her backpack off the floor.
“See, that wasn’t so bad, now was it?” Steve says with a grin.
You, Steve, and Sam all say a chorus of goodbyes to the rest of the group before heading out. “Shotgun!” Sam shouts as he races out of Clint’s front door. Steve just rolls his eyes and Wanda tries not to giggle as Sam sprints down to the passenger seat door of Steve’s car.
“So, how are you liking it here?” Steve asks as he glances into the rearview mirror at Wanda.
“It’s alright, I appreciate that you guys have all taken me in, it really means a lot.”
“Of course, you’re a great kid, why wouldn’t we want to have you join our group?”
“Green light,” Sam mutters, “God, can you please stop driving like a grandpa? I have to get home for dinner.”
“It’s called safety, maybe you should look it up.” Steve shoots back, “Honestly, I’m surprised you want to hang out with us.”
“What? You guys are super popular, doesn’t everyone want to hang out with you?”
“I don’t know if we’re popular, we’ve just got enough scary football players and freaky genius kids that no one wants to cross us.”
“But aren’t football players, partiers, and rich kids the groups that are usually are popular? Aren’t those the three groups that make up your friends group?”
“I don’t know man, but you’ve met everyone, they’re not exactly cool, I’m the only cool one.” Sam interjects.
Steve pulls up in front of a small house with pale blue siding and a brown door and Sam hops out.
“Thanks man,” He says to Steve before looking in the backseat at Wanda, “See you tomorrow.”
“Alright, you can come sit up here if you want,” Steve says as he turns around to look at Wanda while Sam goes into his house.
“What, you don’t want to pretend to be my chauffeur?” Wanda asks mockingly as she hops out and gets into the front seat.
“Where do you live?” Steve asks.
“On 7th, it’s about 5 blocks down the street from school. 17th Street and Main.” Wanda replies.
“Aye aye, captain,” He replies as he pulls away from the curb, heading in that direction.
“I really did mean what I said earlier, I know I was a bit skeptical about the fact that you guys took me in, but I’m glad that you did, it makes all of this...a lot easier.” Wanda says after a moment.
“I think you’re a good fit for us, sure, you’ve got your baggage, but we all do, it’s nice to have people that you can talk to about that kind of stuff.”
“I don’t know if I’m quite ready to talk about it.” Wanda replies with chuckle.
“You sure? I’m always here if you need someone.”
“Maybe someday.” Wanda replies, staring out the window at the houses as they pass by them.
“Thanks for driving me home,” Wanda says as she turns to Steve.
Steve grins, “Any time. I’ll see you tomorrow at school.”
“See you!” Wanda calls out as she hops out of Steve’s car and start up her family’s front walkway.
As she entered the house she could feel the high of being around her new friends slowly dissipates thrust back into the real world - her reality. The kitchen table was covered in Pietro’s clothes. Wanda watched as her mom painstakingly sorted through it.
“What are you doing?” Wanda asks, quietly, from the doorway.
“It’s time,” Her mother replies as she looks up at her, “Would you like to help me? I think a lot of this stuff can be donated.”
“I can’t-no.” Wanda states before walking away and quickly running up to her bedroom and closing the door behind her. Her mom doesn’t follow her, Wanda knows she won’t, she knows it’s too hard.
Wanda sat on her bed for the rest of the night. She knew she needed to go down stairs and talk to her mom. Or at least join her parents for dinner, but they didn’t push her so she stayed in her room and tried to do homework (which meant just sitting at her desk with all of her books propped open around her while she just stared at the wall).
Eventually Wanda gave up on the potential of ever getting any homework done and just got into bed, where she tossed and turned for the rest of the night, unable to relax herself and drift off.
She fell down a pit of self-loathing as she attempted to sleep for how disrespectful it was to Pietro’s memory for her to have immediately found friends and to spend an afternoon with them where she barely thought about her twin.
I would do anything in my power
After New York, Natasha has issues with sleep and her and clint talk about their future.
*
Their lives had turned upside down since the new york events. Tony had offered all of the avengers an apartment in stark towers and natasha and clint were no different. They shared a lavish apartment with a shared living room, kitchen and bathroom. But each had thier own spacious bedroom with a humongous kingsize bed.
Not that this mattered to Natasha. She rarely managed to get sleep. Her mind was always too awake and ready to jump into action when clint became possessed again. Of course Loki was gone and clint was perfectly fine, but that didnt stop her restlessness. So she spent most nights pressed up against the floor-to-ceiling windows of their shared apartment, watching new york being rebuilt.
She often found her mind wandering to the events of the last couple of months. She had felt so lost when clint was taken away from her that she was almost unable to do anything, useless during the time when new york needed her the most. Natasha had been trained not to feel emotions. She was condtioned to be a mindless drone. A killing machine. She had snapped necks with her bare hands. She had stuck a dagger in some guys chest and watched the light drain out of his eyes. So why couldnt she deal with it when her mission partner were brainwashed?
It was maybe the fourth night since the new york disaster, natasha was sat at her window watching taxis drive past on the street below, when she heard a noise. It could only be described as the ruffle of fabric. She reached for the knife that she always kept in her belt.... except she wasnt wearing a belt. She was wearing an oversized ACDC t shirt that she borrowed from Clint, and nothing else. She mentally cursed herself. Natasha rose into a crouch and poised herself ready to attack.
All that was going through her head were thoughts that clint might be in danger of being abducted again. This just justified her insomnia and her paranoia. Natasha stood up, spun on the ball of her feet and threw her fist forward. It connected with something firm with a thud, and a "what the hell." at that moment, natasha realised that It was clint that was stood before her. His eyes were the usual storm grey color and, curiously, he held a woolen blanket. "I thought you mind need this." He said after she had apologised.
Clint had feelings for natasha, except he had never told her. He liked her spark, he liked how she surprised him every day without fail. They had always had a special bond that could only have been formed through stake-outs, sharing a hotel room and generally annoying the crap out of each other. Clint always had her back. He was always in the rafters, with his bow ready, just waiting for someone to glance at Nat the wrong way. He knew perfectly well she could deal with missions alone. But they both agreed, they liked him being her cover. However, clints experience with being around tasha meant he could always tell when something was bothering her. "Whats wrong Nat?" He said gently.
She really couldnt find the words to explain how she felt. The lack of sleep and the tidal wave of emotions caught up on her as she sank on the floor and sat crossed legged, facing the window. "Im fine." She muttered. Clint opened up the blanket and draped it around her shoulders and then sat next to her on the floor.
They paused for a moment, watching the three am hubub of new york, the city that never sleeps. "What do we do now?" Asked Clint. He didnt blame natasha for not being able to verbalise her feelings. He knew that she couldnt help how she was programmed. But most of all he knew that her emotions were what frustrated natasha the most. He had witnessed many tantums, wall punches and knives stuck in doors during their partnership.
"Well i cant stay here forever. I already feel like sinking a throwing knife between starks eyes." Clint laughed and natasha smiled slightly. "I think im gonna get a new apartment. Start over again".
"You could always come live with me. On ranch." It slipped out. He didnt mean it. Clint always dreamnt of a future where him and natasha lived on his ranch. Retired just as they turned 30. Kids. A dog called lucky. A perfect life. Natasha would be the most incredible wife. The chances of her sharing that dream was incredibly slim. She couldnt settle. She always had to do something. Clint was ready for her to shoot him down. Maybe she would ignore him completley and they could forget about it.
Instead, she set her head on his shoulder and sighed. He was wearing a snuggly grey robe that was soft against her face. Her heart was telling her exactly how it felt. Her head was telling her not to say a word. Instead natasha stared at their reflection in the glass. Clint wrapped a reassuring arm around her shoulder. One of the best things about their relationship, natasha thought, was the way clint always listened to her. No matter how jumbled her words were.
"I dont think im the type of person to settle down."
"Dont you have dreams of the future?", clint asked.
"I dont know. Im scared of the future. All i want is the right person to live out the rest of my life with." She closed her eyes, they were starting to feel heavy. Clint smelt nice, it always relaxed her. "I lost you for a few days. That was the scariest thing thats ever happened to me, because i rely on you so much. Youre the only person i can open up to. What happens if i open up to someone new and i loose them?"
"You know, if they loved you, theyd do anything in their power to protect you?" He buried his nose into her hair. There was a small flutter in his tummy, just from being so close to Nat.
"I want a proper house. Not a flat. Somewhere in the suburbs." She muttered.
"A nice big kitchen that you can mess up." She laughter and elbowed him in the ribs. Clint responded by digging his fingers into her sides. Natasha squealed and fell into his lap.
They stayed for a minute, natasha looking up into clints eyes. Her eyes were the most amazing green. Like the meadow at the back of his ranch. She didnt make an attempt to move, she just adjusted her blanket. "I want a huge garden."
"Not gonna lie. My ranch is in the middle of a field Nat.". She giggled. The black widow didnt giggle.
"Who said we were moving in together?" She exclaimed. "If we were to live together, you can cook." She laughed.
Clint grinned, ignoring the bubbles in his chest. "Fine. But you can watch the kids."
"Fine. I want one girl and two boys." She said definitivley.
Clint was surprised shed even thought about it. "And a dog. Called lucky."
"And a dog called lucky." Repeated natasha. Something in her head slotted into place. Why was she so worried about settling down when she had everything she wanted right here.
"Also the sex would be amazing." He said with a smug grin. She sat up and punched him in the chest, laughing. Natasha definatley thought that clints muscular body was a perk of the job. She had never considered anything sexual happening between them. But now that she thought about it.... natasha smirked.
Clint didnt know where to go next. Did he just leave it or did he propose on the spot. He did what he always does in these situations. He tries to make a joke out of it. "Honestly. With my expertise. Itll be great. All youll have to do is lay there and look incredible."
Natasha giggled "why are you making me think about having sex with you?!" She blushed beet red. "It would be great, though."
Clint pulled natasha onto his lap. She lost the blanket and her tshirt rose up and revealed even more of her thighs. She tried not to think about how she wasnt wearing any underwear. Natasha buried her head into the crook of clints neck.
They stayed there in silence, no sound but the horns honking on the street below. Clint finally had Natasha in his arms. Natasha finally felt like she had a clear head. "Nat?" He whispered. She looked up and he pressed his lips to hers. Natasha found something she never thought she needed.
As the kiss intensified, clint began to stroke her thighs. Natasha wound her fingers into his blond hair. They broke apart gasping and flushed.
They rested thier foreheads together. "I love you clint. I want to spend the rest of my life with you."
Honestly, clint couldve cried.
"I love you too. I promise that ill do anything in my power to protect you."
OK here we go..
OK so I just wanna say something
During Civil war everyone wanted to take a side right? I'm on Team You idiots better start getting along or I'll bash your heads together! I swear Thor and Bruce leave for FIVE minutes..
But if I must pick a side, I'd choose Team Iron Man. Now before you hate me let me explain, K? No I don't hate Bucky, I love Bucky more than I should. I don't hate Steve. How can you? I'll explain WITHOUT bashing team Cap.
I'll just put it simply. Think. Tony had MANY mental illnesses. But the one we see the most is PTSD. This has slowly dragged him down, and has noticable messed with his decision making abilities. He only WANTED to sign the accords so no innocent people would be killed. He had wanted to help Bucky, he said Bucky needs help. ( So does he ). I swear if he would just TELL THEM THE CRAP HES GONE THREW THEYD UNDERSTAND AND COULD WORK THIS CRAP OUT!!!!!!! OK OK I'm sorry.
( OK so this point on, If you like Wanda, DONT READ!! I don't like Wanda, this will sorta be bashing her. )
Now let me give another reason. Think about age of ultron. People blamed Tony for making Ultron ( Which WAS stupid ) but none of them were mad at Bruce.. Even though he was involved in making Ultron to. To go along with it, Tony only MADE Ultron because, oh yeah, WANDA SHOWED HIM HIS WORST NIGHTMARE!! HIS TEAM, DEAD, BECAUSE HE COULDNT DO ANY BETTER!! I mean come on!! Everyone forgives Wanda for everything, but NOT Tony for supposedly killing people ( Which he didn't. Obadiah sold weapons without Tony's knowledge to terrorists ). Yet, after he takes her in, she still hates him. She takes him locking her in her room as a way of protecting the world from her, when he was just trying to protect her from the world!
Tony hides his PTSD, insecurities, and anxiety behind a mask of Snarky egotism. And by building awesome tech.
I don't know. I love all those dorks. ( Except Wanda ). I just want them to get along.
Update: I am OK with Wanda. I don't love her, but I know want her to be very happy
Walking The Wire (117/155)
Summary: Tony Stark always knew about Peter Parker. He didn’t know that Peter was going to get superpowers and become Spider-Man, but he always knew about Peter because Peter was his son.
This will span from pre-Iron Man up through the rest of the MCU (eventually including Infinity War) and will be for the most part canon compliant except where I’ve taken some liberties and interpreted canon a certain way.
Pairings: Pepper/Tony, Tony/Steve (endgame), Tony/Mary (past)
A/N: If you want me to tag you when I post new chapters let me know. This fic is also on AO3
I used Collider’s MCU timeline to stay canon and the title of this fic is an Imagine Dragons song that is just so fitting for Peter and Tony
Chapter One Hundred Sixteen
Strange was on the ground but he was awake and Peter stood a few feet away, the iron legs gone back into the suit and his mask pulled back. The cape flew away from Peter where Peter had been greeting it to Strange as Tony approached and let the nanotech in the suit pull back entirely as he walked towards them.
“We’ve got to turn this ship around,” Strange said.
It was Tony’s first instinct too. Figure out how to turn the ship around and go back home. It was sort of his main instinct because Peter was on the ship. The only thing was that he didn’t know if they could or if it was the right thing to do. Maybe there was something to the idea of catching Thanos unaware because the last thing that he was probably expecting was for them to show up wherever the ship was headed. After all, they were already headed to space so maybe they just needed to stick with that trajectory since Strange had gotten them into this situation in the first place by not leaving when he could have.
“Stark, we have to turn the ship around.”
“Yeah. Now he wants to run. Great plan,” Tony muttered.
“No,” Strange grounded out. “I want to protect the stone.”
Tony really just -- he hated how arrogant Strange was even after Tony had gone to the trouble of saving his life. He headed towards what looked to be the controls of the ship.
“And I want you to thank me. Go ahead. I’m listening,” Tony added as he walked away.
“For what? Nearly blasting me into space?” Strange asked as if he hadn’t been surrounded by needles just a few minutes earlier.
It was as if he wasn’t taking into consideration at all that Tony and Peter had had to leave Earth to save him because he and the Time Stone around his neck had gotten captured and taken onto an alien ship.
“Who just saved your magical ass?” Tony asked and he turned because he knew that Strange had walked after him. “Me.”
“I seriously don’t know how you fit your head into that helmet,” Strange said and Tony thought that he must have said it solely to irritate him. He really couldn’t stand this man.
If Strange had only listened to Tony while they were on Earth when Tony told him to leave it was possible that they wouldn’t be in the situation they were finding themselves in now on some alien ship in space headed to -- well, Tony had no idea where they were headed.
“Admit it,” Tony said. “You should have ducked out when I told you to. I tried to bench you. You refused.”
Dr. Strange scoffed and it was clear that he was too arrogant and too determined to disagree with Tony and at least bickering with him took his mind off of worrying about Peter and the outcome of the situation they were in. From the looks of it it the ship was on some sort of autopilot. Tony had no way of knowing where it was headed but there was certainly a destination.
“Unlike everyone else in your life,” Strange said, “I don’t work for you.”
“And due to that fact, we’re now in a flying donut billions of miles away from Earth with no backup.” That was the part that really rankled Tony if he was honest. He had no way to contact the team -- to let them know what was going on or that they were okay. No way to figure out a plan together and really decide what their best choice would be. They were on their own. He and Peter were on their own with Strange.
“I’m backup,” Peter spoke up from behind Strange.
Tony didn’t want to be angry with Peter. He didn’t want to be upset at him for staying on the ship when Tony had been sending home and yet it was there under the surface because Tony had to think about the universe as a whole and his mind just kept going back to protecting his kid because to him that was the most important thing and yet -- Peter’s well being couldn’t be the priority. Not this time.
“No,” Tony said, addressing Peter, “you’re a stowaway.” And for good measure he pointed at himself and Strange. “The adults are talking.”
Peter’s shoulders dropped a little and he looked like he was ready to argue back, but he seemed to rethink it.
“I’m sorry,” Strange said. He was looking between him and Peter with some interest. “So, I’m a bit confused as to the relationship here. What is he? Your ward?”
“No,” Peter said. “I’m Peter, by the way.”
“I’m surprised you don’t already know,” Tony said. “After all, everyone knows I have a son.”
Granted, most people didn’t know that his son was Peter and that his son was Spider-Man, but Strange wouldn’t care one way or another.
Strange grunted. “I don’t actually follow your media coverage, Stark,” he said. “So this is your son, then?” Strange looked Peter over, seemingly taking the moment to really look at him before he let out a breath. “I’m Doctor Strange,” he said directing it at Peter.
Tony busied himself looking at the controls of the ship, trying to figure out how they worked and what they might need to do to get control of the ship and maybe get it off of autopilot too.
“Oh,” Peter said, “we’re using our made-up names. Um, I’m Spider-Man, then.”
Tony tried not to laugh. He wasn’t sure if Peter had said it because he was serious or because he was getting some amusement out of confusing Strange.
“The ship is self-correcting its course,” Tony informed them. “It’s on autopilot.”
Tony still wasn’t sure if they should head back home. The father in him said yes -- that it was the best thing to do. It would mean being back somewhere familiar where they could figure out what to do with the Time Stone. It would also mean having Peter back on Earth and having the option of trying to keep Peter out of trouble. But he couldn’t make that decision based solely on what was best for Peter. He couldn’t be a dad -- he couldn’t be Tony Stark about it. He had to be Iron Man -- he had to be an Avenger.
“Can we control it? Fly us home?” Strange asked.
Tony didn’t answer. What were the better odds? Thanos would come for the stone no matter where they were and with him destruction and death.
“Stark?”
“Yeah?”
“Can you get us home?” Oh, but he wanted to. He wanted to badly.
“I heard you,” Tony said. “I’m -- I’m thinking -- well...I’m not so sure we should go back.”
Tony knew that as soon as he said it that Strange didn’t agree and that he didn’t understand what Tony meant by it.
“Under no circumstance can we bring the Time Stone to Thanos,” Strange said. “I don’t think you quite understand what’s at stake here.” He got in Tony’s face, anger and fear so obvious in the way he stared at Tony and it was so demeaning and pushy and of course Tony understood. He understood better than anyone.
“No, it’s you who doesn’t understand,” Tony shot back. “Thanos has been inside my head for six years! Since he sent an army to New York and now he’s back and I don’t know what to do. So, I’m not so sure if it’s a better plan to fight him on our turf or his, but you saw what they did. What he can do. At least on his turf, he’s not expecting it. So, I say we take the fight to him.”
He had decided. He was sure it was the right thing to do. The only thing to do. Tony stared at Strange and at least the man was smart enough to take Tony’s words and think on them and not just shove them aside like everything else Tony had said.
“Doctor, do you concur?”
Strange took a moment and then there was a slight nod even though Tony could tell that Strange wasn’t entirely sure. “Alright, Stark. We go to him.”
Was it a good plan? Tony wasn’t sure -- it just seemed like the thing to do. Because if they could turn the ship around -- assuming they could even manage that -- it wouldn’t exactly lead them away from the fight. Tony started to turn away from Strange, but Strange stopped him and he looked almost apologetic in the way he stared at Tony. He glanced back towards Peter once before speaking.
“You have to understand,” Strange said, “if it comes to saving you or your son or the Time Stone -- I will not hesitate to let either of you die. The fate of the universe depends on it.”
Peter let out a gasp. Small and almost silent. Tony tried not to react with anger.
“Good,” Tony said. “Nice moral compass you got there.”
Strange looked away and Tony stepped back too and then he looked towards Peter. Too loyal and too wonderful Peter who should have been back on Earth safe and sound. Tony would have felt so much better about this decision if Peter wasn’t there. He hated the idea of bringing Peter along to this fight -- to face a threat worse than any they’d ever faced before. Peter had moved over, closer to the controls which he looked at with curious interest.
Tony dropped a hand to Peter’s shoulder and Peter just moved into a hug almost instantly as if it were instinct to him and Tony didn’t mind it at all. Peter’s arms wrapped around Tony’s middle and he was warm and breathing and alive and Tony could hear his heartbeat and it was enough. Tony pressed a kiss to Peter’s head and he closed his eyes and let himself imagine that they weren’t on an alien ship and instead back home and none of it was true.
“Love you, kid,” Tony said.
“I’m sorry I didn’t listen,” Peter whispered.
“I know.” And he did. He could tell that Peter felt sorry -- he maybe didn’t regret his actions completely, but he hated disappointing Tony. “It’s -- I don’t know if I’d say it’s okay but there’s nothing to be done now.”
“I know,” Peter said.
When Tony looked up he found that Strange was watching them.
Chapter One Hundred Six
It wasn’t until it was almost summer that Tony actually had to speak out in Barnes’ defense. Pepper was the one to make the call on the timing and Tony agreed that it was the right time. It was mostly to do with how the public viewed Barnes and Ross. Since clearing the air in Wakanda, Tony had started to take more interest in the man that was Steve’s best friend. He’d gone as far as to offer Barnes a new arm even if the process would entail Tony returning to Wakanda to make it happen. Barnes hadn’t seemed too interested and Tony realized fairly quickly that it was because for the time being he preferred not having the arm and either way Shuri assured him she had something in the works for him.
Speaking to Barnes had made things a little easier for Tony. He didn’t blame the man anymore and he didn’t dream about him or Siberia all the time not that it stopped Tony from having nightmares all together about his mom dying but they weren’t about Barnes. Not really. Some things were never going to stop and for Tony there would always be nightmares.
In the end, Tony’s statements about how much he didn’t blame Barnes and how he didn’t personally hold Barnes accountable for the deaths of his parents had the effect of making people aware of how much Hydra had had to do with everything The Winter Soldier had done. But it wasn’t just Tony’s word but all the proof they had to show what Hydra had been up to.
It didn’t stop Ross from continuing to try to get his way and make it near impossible for Barnes to ever get out of hiding without being arrested if he did. But the arrest would only lead to a trial and Tony was confident that it was a trial that Barnes would win. Ross seemed to have figured that out too, because he wasn’t as pushy with the stuff about Barnes which just made Tony worry and he’d have something else up his sleeve. Either way, with Barnes not planning on leaving Wakanda any time soon the whole matter was put the rest and Tony had his lawyers ready for when anything changed. He was hopeful that his name would be cleared when the time came.
Tony had a million other things going on too like the planning of a wedding. The thing of it was that flashy wasn’t what they wanted or needed. In all actuality, the whole marriage thing was a bit unnecessary in and of itself. Still, they wanted to have it happen and make it official.
It was Peter that seemed to want to make a big deal out of it which Tony thought was him trying to really make it clear how okay he was with him getting married which was sweet. Ever since they’d had that discussion over apple crostini, Tony had realized that he really needed to make sure Peter never felt left out of any of it. It helped that Steve adored Peter and loved his input and probably welcomed Peter in more than even Tony did.. If it was up to Steve, he probably would just let Peter have his way with all of it.
“But you have to have a big wedding,” Peter said one morning. “Just think about all the good it will do to all the gay teens out there who look up to you. You’re Iron Man and Captain America. You’re both public figures.”
Rhodey thought the whole thing was hilarious, but somehow Peter got him on his side. Mostly, Tony suspected that Rhodey just wanted to watch him suffer.
“No one even knows we’re together, Pete,” Tony had tried to argue one afternoon while Peter did some maintenance on K-9.
“But they should. I don’t really get why you’re keeping it a secret in the first place. You’re not going to hide it forever. It’s like -- I know I have a secret identity, but one day everyone’s going to know who I am. And they’re also going to know that I’m your son. I’m not ashamed of being Spider-Man or the son of Tony Stark even if it’s easier to keep that quiet at the moment. ”
It took a few weeks of convincing and since Peter was eventually out of school for the summer he had plenty of time to harp on the subject which was a bit amusing mostly because he even had Karen and Friday piping in on how much they needed to make a big deal about the wedding. In the end, Tony figured that Peter was right. Secrets weren’t a good thing and as horrible as the media coverage could get, Peter was right in saying that they might help young LGBTQ kids and teens and adults too probably by being open about it. That was what finally truly convinced Tony -- but also, it was sort of nice to share with the world that he and and Steve were going to be husbands.
But then, another reason reared its head when Tony got a call from Ross. The calls had stopped a while back, but Friday still put Ross on hold for a while before Tony picked up.
“Oh, sorry, I didn’t realize there was a call,” Tony said. “What can I do for you?”
“Stark, you’ve done an amazing job at stonewalling me time and time again.”
“Getting the right information to the people is stonewalling you? Getting our heroes back and under house arrest as punishment for their actions? General, I have followed every letter of the law and every clause within the amended Sokovia Accords. So unless you want something, I don’t understand the nature of this phone call. I’m a very busy man.”
Which was when Ross said the last thing that Tony expected him to say: “I know you have a son. Swings around New York City as Spider-Man, right? I bet the people would love to know about him -- after all, everyone seems to be wondering who he is.”
Tony went cold. It didn’t seem like Ross actually knew who was under the Spider-Man suit, but he knew that it was Tony’s son. He knew that Tony had a son at all.
“Ah, I see I found something to keep you quiet,” Ross chuckled.
The question was how did he know?
“Did you know that The Accords and who signed them are public. Even if they weren’t I would have been able to take a look and Spider-Man is a minor who needed a mentor of sorts to take responsibility for him. And you did that for him which was enough to make me interested.”
It still begged the question how he had figured it out and how he wasn’t mentioning Peter which worried him. Did he know it was Peter or not? Peter had signed as Spider-Man not as Peter Parker so maybe--
“Everyone’s been speculating,” Ross said, “I may as well give them some sort of answer. Tony Stark allowing a teenager to run around as a hero -- that would make the front pages.”
But not if Tony had a bigger story to sell.
---
The pictures were taken in the tower because of the house arrest and they were absolutely ridiculous. Steve didn’t know how Tony had managed to convince him to pose that way. They were both on chairs and Tony’s was balancing on two legs. Steve’s leg was resting on Tony’s shoulder and Tony was actually holding on to it. Steve actually couldn’t believe that they hadn’t fallen while taking the picture. There had been a bunch of other ridiculous poses made that day and it was lucky that not all of the pictures were used in the article. Only a few of them were of a serious nature. The one where Tony had just kissed his cheek, or the one where they had gotten a bit caught up in staring at each other and the photographer had just taken a few shots of them. There were also individual ones. Vanity Fair was running a whole issue mostly devoted to them, it was kind of insane.
The interview had been almost nice though, mostly because he’d gotten to talk about Tony a bit and because it was the first time that Steve was getting to really be public about The Accords and the house arrest. He’d even gotten to mention Bucky for a bit of it.
The one area where Steve had been surprised was when Tony decided to disclose that he had a son. Peter wasn’t mentioned by name, but he casually mentioned that his son and Steve got along really well. Steve had been sitting next to him when the topic came up and he had frozen in place out of surprise until Tony reached for his hand and griped it before he said:
“I know it’s a bit of a surprise to everyone to learn that I have a son, but since we’re announcing this other important life event I figured everyone should know that I am a very proud father to a teenager. He hasn’t always been in my life, but he’s made a difference in it in the time he has been. I am unwilling to talk about who he is for privacy concerns, but I guess it was time to be a little more open with the world.”
When the final version of the whole article and pictures arrived for their approval, Steve was a little floored by how good they both looked. How happy, too. The main picture was the chair one but it was followed by a picture of Tony fixing a strand of Steve’s hair and Steve looking down at him. Steve wanted that picture framed. Vanity Fair didn’t go out of their way to highlight the mention of Tony having a son, but everyone knew that the media was going to pick up on it and run with it.
Steve skimmed the article and it really was perfect. The writer captured them and really weaved in the narrative of their story from how they labeled their sexualities to how their relationship had come about to why they had decided to come forward with the truth. It was actually kind of nice and Steve didn’t regret doing it.
--
“Tony Stark is dating Captain America?”
“Wait — they’re engaged.”
“Did you hear?”
“I didn’t know that HE was Gay? Did you?”
“This is nuts.”
“Wait, and is it true that Tony Stark has a son?”
“Do you think they’ve been together this entire time?”
“But didn’t Stark date his assistant for forever? I thought they were still together.”
“They’re getting married, though.”
“I wonder how long they’ve been together…”
The questions and comments were endless and Peter was sort of amused every time he heard something. He tried to stay away from actually discussing anything with anyone unlike Ned who was absolutely keen on getting his two cents in, but then Peter had expected that from Ned. Ned was also trying to get Peter to talk to him about how he felt about Tony mentioning that he had a son. Peter didn’t want to discuss it.
The timing of the article was perfect, though, because it came out just a day before the last day of school and Peter knew he wouldn’t get a chance to actually get tired of hearing about the article. It wasn’t just that everyone was talking about it, either, but that some of them just went up to Peter to ask him about it since he had the Stark Internship and everyone wanted to know if he’d known beforehand and if he’d met Steve. In one case someone asked if Peter had met Tony’s son. Peter tended to just give those people a shrug and a, “I’m just an intern.”
Ned’s reaction had still been the best after he’d had a chance to process the whole thing. “This -- this means that freaking Captain America is going to be your step-father.”
“Yup, Ned. That’s how that works,” Peter said.
Ned had laughed nervously for a while. “How are you not freaking out?”
“Because I’ve had plenty of time to get used to it.”
The media coverage was kind of insane after the article was released, though. Mostly it was a rehashing of what the article said but there were segments on the news, talk shows, and those celebrity news shows. A lot of them highlighted the mention of Tony having a son and everyone seemed to be questioning who it might be. Only one article mentioned the possibility of Tony’s son being Spider-Man and it was almost said in jest which was funny because everyone seemed opposed to the idea because of how secretive Tony had been about having a son in the first place.
Since the publishing of the article, Friday had also started to deal with a high volume of calls for interviews that were all declined. Peter hadn’t expected it to be so crazy, but his dad and Steve were handling it.
“But we’re talking about Iron Man and Captain America getting married. Two Avengers marrying each other. It’s crazy.”
Peter sighed. “I’m aware. They’re also normal people. You’ve met them.”
“It’s still crazy, though.”
Michelle’s response had been to shrug. “It’s nice that they’re making a difference by making their romance public. Doesn’t really concern me though.” He really should have expected nothing less from her except that then she had turned and stared right at him and said, “Peter Stark.” And promptly walked away.
---
“I’m kind of glad I’m on house arrest now,” Steve said. He was playing with K-9 and Dum-E with a ball and Tony was in the middle of not watching some snapshots of the media coverage of their engagement. It had been created by Friday for them just so that they were on top of everything being said about them, but Tony had it on while he worked on something or other.
“Hmm, yes, they would be following you everywhere,” Tony said.
Tony for his part hadn’t really left the tower. They’d announced their engagement over Twitter the morning the article came out and it had been kind of funny how many people thought that Tony was joking. They thought so even when Steve tweeted about it. There had even been some that were convinced it was a misdirect from Tony and Pepper getting engaged or even full on married. Then, everyone got wind of the article and the messages changed to surprise. A lot were pleased and congratulatory but then there were the homophobes who were obviously completely offended by it but Tony didn’t care about engaging with people like that. There were fewer at first that mentioned Tony’s announcement of also being a father.
“Why, um, you haven’t explained why you mentioned having a son.”
He hadn’t mentioned the call from Ross. At first because he had so much to set up to screw up Ross’ plans, but also because he knew that Steve would feel guilty about it somehow.
“Ross knows my son is Spider-Man. I’m not -- I don’t know if he knows it’s Peter but he knows something so it made sense to announce it myself in a way.”
“Which is why everything was rushed,” Steve said.
The funny part was that after the article had come out and other coverage of it by the media got all of the information right there were still a bunch of rumors and stories to deal with. It was just so much information and no one really knew what to focus on. It was sort of brilliant to mix in Tony having a son in the middle of all of it.
“Are they really saying that you made this a condition to have me back in the states?” Steve asked with a grin, looking at the screen.
“Apparently so. You know how they are — they want to paint me as the bad guy and in a lot of those people’s eyes I’m not good enough for you.”
“Those people have no idea how amazing you are,” Steve said
K-9 barked to get attention. The dog really was a great addition to the tower. Peter loved him of course, but so did Steve who was the first to just drop to the ground and roll around with the dog when he had time.
“Get rid of all that, Fri, it’s useless.” The screen went dark. “Is there anything else that needs my attention? Otherwise I’ll get back to figuring out the housing unit for the nanotech.”
Friday seemed to take a moment to search and then, “I have surveillance footage of Thor and Loki in the city. There are also Instragram pictures of Thor.”
Steve dropped the ball at his feet and he straightened up, joining Tony to look at what Friday had been able to pull up. The video wasn’t all that grainy but it didn’t show much since it was them facing some sort of demolition. The video wasn’t even centered on them but they stood there for a while and it was definitely Thor and Loki even if they were both in regular human clothing and not their usual Asgardian gettup. It was also not enough to hide them from people on the street who seemed to stare at them from afar.
“What got demolished there?” Steve asked.
“Shady Acres Care Home,” Friday said.
“The real questions is why they are there and why Thor hasn’t thought to contact us if he’s back on Earth,” Tony said and it was worrisome because it meant that Thor wasn’t just back for leisure but that he was after something. That Loki was with him -- that might mean more problems for everyone.
They watched as Thor was approached by a bunch of girls -- which explained the origin of the pictures on Instagram and Twitter. And then just moments later Loki disappeared. Probably one of his tricks. Even Thor seemed surprised that his brother was gone -- and wasn’t it just even more worrisome to have Loki disappear like that? They watched as Thor picked something up off the ground and then he walked off.
“He’s here for a reason,” Tony said. “Have there been any more sightings?” Tony asked.
“I’m afraid not,” Friday said.
“So what do we do? There’s still no way to contact him so…”
“We wait,” Tony said. “And we can only hope that Loki isn’t up to something. Friday be on alert for any sighting of either.”
“Sure thing, boss.”
Tony just hoped that nothing would come of Thor’s return to Earth.
Tony looked back at the unit for the nanotech. He hadn’t told anyone yet that it was probably going to mean that he was putting something back in his chest -- that this housing unit would have to be on him somehow and it’d be better for it to be in him. Thor showing up made him even more positive that he needed to do it.
“I’m sure it’s nothing bad,” Steve said. “He would have come to us if it was.”
Tony sighed. Loki had been with him and after the last time they had encountered the God of Mischief, Tony wouldn’t discount that he wasn’t up to anything. Although, it was a bit of a surprise to see him when Thor had been adamant that Loki was dead the last time they spoke about him. It made Tony wonder about what might have happened for Loki to be alive and for Loki and Thor to be together and not showing signs of not being on the same side. Tony understood that they were family, but he also knew that there was a lot of contention there. He just hoped that none of that would affect the people of Earth.
