I just thought of the Crows' careers in a modern AU setting (I'm high off of caffeine and gnocchi, don't take this seriously because I'm giggling like a nutcase)

Kaz: He owns some sort of business. Probably sticking with in-canon and he owns a bar/club. Or a library in New York where it's pure dark academia.

Inej: SOCIAL WORKER. Y'all know how she hunts slavers after Crooked Kingdom? She instead helps kids out of abusive homes (hunts down abusive guardians)

Jesper: Oh my God, he's one of those guys the casinos hire to make sure nobody's cheating. Dude knows all the hands, all the signals, all the everything. Or he owns a gunstore (he'll lecture you for thirty minutes straight about guns).

Nina: So I was thinking a nurse, but a fashion designer is lowkey doing it for me. The Shadow and Bone show did her 2% justice, and 1.5% is her outfits. She's also plus-sized, so I feel like she'll make a cute outfit and won't charge an arm and a leg for it. Or she could be a translator (polyglot queen I love my wife)

Matthias: He works at an animal shelter, hundy-p. Especially one that isn't great at taking care of animals, because he'll shut that shit down and will make sure all those animals are adored. Or a vet, but I feel like he'd sob everytime he'd have to put a dog down :c

Wylan: I was thinking a chemistry teacher, but I feel like he'd have a hard time teaching because it makes more sense in his head. However, a music teacher? I can read sheet music myself, and OH BABY he'd have a field day teaching it.

Edit: This is so stupid, but Kaz as a photographer. Yes, this is 100% because of Freddy Carter (Kaz's actor, for those who don't know) is a photography nerd BUT HEAR ME OUT. I headcannon that Inej likes nature and flowers and all that while Kaz rolls his eyes and calls it, 'trivial,' YET HE'LL TAKE PICTURES OF IT AND PUT THE PHOTOS ON HER DESK

*cracks knuckles* I'm re-reading the Six of Crows duology, so here goes (apologies if this has already been said)

He WORRIED after she was stabbed after being ambushed

He worried about her after they broke into the Ice Court, and he had to reassure himself that she'd be okay

(Exclusive to the Shadow and Bone show) She killed someone to save him (first time she ever took a life)

As depressing as the scene is, her saying, "I will have you without armor, Kaz Brekker. Or I will not have you at all." is so good because she's saying that she'll have him at his most vulnerable and off-guard

And ever after that, "She wanted to believe he was worth saving, too."

"Kaz seized her hand, keeping it on the railing. He didn't look at her. 'Stay,' he said, his voice rough stone. 'Stay in Ketterdam. Stay with me.'"

Not once, but twice did he hold her hand (the time in Crooked Kingdom, correct me if I'm wrong, his gloves were off)

He could've gotten her anything she wanted, but he gave her a ship to hunt slavers and HER FAMILY

I believe she was the first one he confided in (somewhat) about Jordie's death

"Better it should be her." -His thoughts after she witnessed him faint due to his haphephobia
