Joan Of Arc’s real name is Jehanne
ST. JEHANNE D’ARC
PATRON SAINT OF TRANS PEOPLE
Excerpts from the Trial of St. Jehanne*; a Prayer; & a meme they might have liked.
*St Jehanne aka Joan of Arc aka Jeanne D’Arc:: was put to death by the Catholic Church on May 30, 1431 - at around age 19. Jehanne was convicted of being a heretic, for their visions (particularly of Michael, St. Catherine (Hekaterinē) and St. Margaret) & their refusal to bend to the laws of men. Perhaps the most notable, if not -visible- aspect of their disobedience was that they wore men’s clothing, and refused to take it off. In the text of the trial, it is clear that this is a splinter in the ass of every man who interrogates them. It is a topic that is returned to over and over. And they never bend.
It stood out to me that in their own defense, Jehanne alternates between stating that wearing mens dress is what they prefer, and that it is the will/command of God.
I wonder, are the two so different? No one but trans people can understand the way that we come to the know that we are trans. We all just…know somehow. Why is that?? And why does it feel so wrong to refuse the call, to the extent that we die for it? …this is one of the reasons why i believe that trans people are sacred, beloved, and close to the Divine. And why what we do is not merely a Choice.
To me, St. Jehanne is a vital portal to trans ancestry. Vital because we can actually read their words, record of their actions, and descriptions of their character. And as you can guess, they were a punk with a heart of gold (doesn’t this remind u of ur trans friends??)
St. Jehanne never actually fought in battle or drew blood, they were the standard-bearer for their army. They would ride down with their battleflag, painted with two Angels and the Earth, to gather their soldiers when they saw they were becoming lost or afraid.
