Here we go, some nice moments in Rescue Bots!!

I'm going to write this with the assumption that some people reading this may not have ever seen Rescue Bots or might only be somewhat familiar, as I realise the target audience skews much younger than most Transformers media does, so I'm not 100% sure how popular it was outside of that demographic in total.

Off the top of my head:

-There is an in-universe VR game called Element Quest that has a couple really good episodes, the design is cute and there are tons of meme references. Blades, at one point, goes "I used to like video games. Then I took an arrow to the knee." LOL

-I think it's cool how they actually do tie in their continuity with TFP's continuity. For example, "What Rises Above" (RB) canonically comes before "Nemesis Prime" (TFP), and this is directly referenced in the dialogue in TFP when Optimus says that he is late arriving to the base as he was exploring an underground energon deposit-- This is the deposit he explores with the Rescue Bots.

-THERE IS A MUSICAL EPISODE. IT IS EXTREMELY GOOD

-Woodrow Burns, the Chief's brother, is kind of an idiot asshole, although he's not actively malicious. But he is great with the kids and for whatever reason the only thing I can ever remember about this character is when he goes up to Cody after it's been a long time since he saw him last and says "You've grown a whole foot since the last time I saw you-- Now you'll need three socks!" IDK I just think that's a real cute dad joke thing to say to a little kid lol :')

-There is an episode where they explore the local folklore of Griffin Rock, and TL;DR the local lore is that their island is where literal griffins used to nest seasonally. So throughout the episode, there's this kind of vibe of "OK are these electrical magnetic pulses or whatever like a science problem or a magic problem" and it's actually a very cute and fun vibe, especially since Cody is talking about the lore in the first place as part of his work towards a Scouts badge and Blades is very cute in this episode, the bots are all like "okay magic isn't real but uhhh what if magic's real?" for a minute and it's great :')

-Doc Greene/Green creates a ton of fun science devices throughout the show, but the names of some are just so doofy and fun. I love the "Torna-Don't", which is a thing designed to dispel tornados. Of course. lmao

-All the weird small town local events are also very silly and cute, and weirdly realistic for those of us who are familiar with this kind of local event thing, lmao. One of my favourite concepts is one of what seems to be several crawdad-related festivals, in which there is apparently a televised crawdad race. It's a bunch of shrimps put on a tiny racetrack, like Olympic runners. LOL

-At one point, Blurr shows up, and when the Rescue Bots are trying to acclimate him to working with humans, Chase is like "Humans seem to have two genders, which are defined by how many cooties they have." This implies that as far as the Rescue Bots are aware, 1) cooties are real and 2) human gender is defined solely by how many cooties a person has, and not by anything else, thus leaving their understanding of human gender fairly open (and it is also clear they have solely learned about gender from young kids in a small town which is likely why they state there are two genders but then make it clear that gender is a cooties thing and not an inherently physical thing, which makes sense in context and is kind of great because it gives more leeway for gender diversity than I expected) and I love this a lot. What is human gender? Cooties. That's all. So someone with a particularly high number of cooties could be another gender altogether, because why not?

-There is a body swap episode, which treats us to Blades in Dani's body trying on dresses in her room. He picks an orange and white one, which matches his paint job. I also love this a lot.

-Heatwave is gruff as hell especially at the start of the series and constantly starts shit or perpetuates shit with Kade, which is super funny. Just this centuries old Cybertronian fucking with this doofus boy who keeps leaving donuts in his cab. God dammit Kade, lmao.

-There is an episode where Cody is aged up via Science Device, and we get to see an older Cody, who more closely resembles his father than his older brother does. It's cute that he'll look like his dad when he's older. :')

During this episode, he assists in a rescue, and the girl his brother has a crush on tries to hit on him, but he clearly doesn't get what's happening and thinks it's icky because of course he does, he's a kid. I just think this scene is handled well and it's cute that his reaction to being hit on is still "ewww girls" but his brother is still absolutely pissed off about it anyway LMAO like jesus Kade, relax

-Kade's mostly an asshole but he's shown to be a really good rescuer who genuinely cares about people, and he has moments where he really comes through for his family and realises on his own that he should shut up and back down on his bullshit, thus making him a better developed and more realistic asshole brother character than 99% of asshole brother characters in most shows. I think this is pretty solid because it does lead to effective character development here and there, and it makes his positive moments with his family and the bots that much nicer. :)

-Cody is such a good kid. He is often willing to give people or ideas a chance when nobody else will, and even though he's too young to actively participate in most missions, he stays involved by helping at their dispatch centre. He's a smart little dude, who has a lot of heart and a ton of potential. One of the few child characters in anything that I actually like, because I think they write him extremely well: He is young, but he is not stupid. He is not treated like an accessory or like the property of his family, he's his own person with a distinct personality within his family, with a reasonable amount of autonomy. And he's a person who is still learning and has valuable contributions while also needing guidance or support at times. 10/10

-Dani gradually gets better at helping Blades deal with his flight anxiety (and sticks up for him when the others might mock him a little for it), and this is not only inherently very nice and cute, but it also makes a lot of sense as she is a first responder/medic and we see her offer the same reassurances towards the people she helps to rescue.

-The writing for the Burns Family in general is some of the best family group character writing in anything tbh, they handle the family dynamic so well in this show, and it's extra cute as the Rescue Bots all learn a lot from observing how the family takes care of one another and the townspeople they rescue. :')

-Blades has anxiety. I also have anxiety, so I am biased and clearly love this dude, lmao. He's so fucking relatable and even though sometimes the others rip on him, it is clear that they're also very proud of him for trying his best to deal with a situation which for him is particularly difficult (he was forced to take a flight capable alt-mode when this is something he is explicitly not comfortable with) and his team mates do support him, even though Heatwave is a douche sometimes (although it is clear this is usually due to stress or something else and that the actual problem isn't Blades). Over the course of the series, Blades does develop a little more confidence, and it's very cute and nice to see him puffing himself up a little more. :)

-The overall attitudes the bots have towards humans in this show is sweet. It's clear they don't really understand humanity or humans as a whole, but it also doesn't really matter because they are so specifically oriented to their local population on the island and their focus is a relatively small community of humans. They take their duties seriously and will protect this population, even if they don't really understand the people outright. They gradually start to respect the locals (and the Burns Family) more and more as they work with them, and get acclimated to Earth. They love their dumbass weird little humans :')

This leads to a lot of fun shenanigans with the bots not understanding things, or only understanding things as they have been explained by the children, which is hilarious.

-There is an episode where local thieves steal Chase, and inspired by Cody's school drama project, he decides to go undercover after watching a bunch of old detective movies. This includes him narrating things to himself, which he is called on when Dani enters the garage and asks him "Why are the lights off? Are you talking to yourself?" lmao

-Although it isn't explicitly canonical, it's easy to interpret both Chase and Blades as being neurodivergent. Both of them display various behaviours and traits which can potentially be understood in this way, and I'm just glad that there's a show for kids where two of the main characters, who are rescue workers, are shown to be competent and skilled at their jobs and accepted by the community for who they are while also being neurodivergent. <3 It's such a good vibe when the other characters support or defend these two in particular, especially when Chase or Blades might be confused or upset about something. Chief Burns is especially great working with Chase.

-Any episode where Optimus shows up in Rescue Bots usually has some gems of cuteness/silliness. The Elvis line still takes me out, LMAO. "You're bigger than Elvis!" "I have not met this Elvis, and I am unaware of his size." 10/10 writing, I fucking love Rescue Bots

-The bots constantly call out a bunch of details that are entirely appropriate for robots from space to notice and recognise as somewhat weird, whereas a lot of the human characters are so used to 1) being human and 2) living on this incredibly weird little technologically advanced island that nothing really phases them anymore. So we can actually identify more with the bots at time, despite the fact that they are also providing an outsider point of view, which is really clever! :)

-The theme song is a fucking banger. It's so good. I love this song so much. I wish we got a full version of it, but this is the best extended version of it that I've been able to find. Enjoy!!!

-There's a lot of fairly adult stuff in the show, more than I think people realise! The tone can never get too dark outright as it is intended for young kids as the primary demographic, but there's a lot of situations, conversations, etc. that are genuinely engaging and interesting from an adult perspective, which is a large part of what makes it a great watch for all ages.

Some situational examples include scenarios where children are imperilled in natural disasters, accidents, even kidnapping at one point.

Non-kid related situations include risks and threat to civilians from AI development and the dangers that uncontrolled or poorly thought out technology can cause or exacerbate, which is significant in context and also interesting to think about given our current relationship IRL with rapid tech development and concerns around how that technology is being made and applied, either in reality or in theory.

Some dialogue examples include scenes where the bots mention their grief over being unable to save Cybertron, a sense of guilt that they were in stasis for so long even though this was beyond their control, awareness that they may be the last Rescue Bots team in operation on Earth or anywhere else in the universe (a sense of loneliness and a responsibility as the last upholders of their specific creed), struggles with their sense of duty and concerns around their ability to fulfil their expectations for themselves and meet the expectations of others while rising to the demands of their unique situation, and so on.

this is already pretty long lmao, there's a ton of stuff I really like about Rescue Bots, but I hope this might encourage others to check out the show if you haven't before, it's well worth a watch! :)

I don't think I made enough of a point of how problematic it is to only like skinny people to the point of only dating, respecting, and rebloging them. I got mad and kept it mostly focused on the white aspect in my previous posts. (As in, only liking WHITE thin people and only rb white skinny femmes is weird as hell) Very sorry about that! I just felt the racism issue needed to be addressed first and then I missed the opportunity to also talk about body size as well because sometimes this goes hand in hand, let's be real.

If you only like butches and femmes when they are thin, especially only if they are thin and white, then maybe you don't like them.

Why do larger bodies make you uncomfortable? No matter if you have a tummy or not, if your thighs touch, your belly is large and prominent, or if you have rolls when standing, sitting, or existing, maybe you even have everything I listed at once but it's all beautiful and wonderful and natural. Someone's body shouldn't stop you from loving them. Someone's size shouldn't make you lose interest in them, that is just pathetic. Your love and respect for butches and femmes shouldn't depend on if they are thin or not.

ESPECIALLY for femmes, this is an issue I am seeing when trying to interact with some of the butches here. You either like us all, or you don't like any of us. You can't only like and respect people when they are thin (and white).

We all come in many different shapes and sizes, if you can only be attracted to those who are thin then you need to unpack that. Why do bodies that are not thin repulse you so much? (fatphobia is real please work on yourselves) Just because someone is fat it doesn't mean they are any less of a person. I am just as deserving of love and respect as my thinner femme sisters/siblings.

Personally as a femme, I love me some butch/stud tummy. Give me a butch with a big tummy, big arms, big legs and thighs, and I'm gonna be the happiest girl in the world. Big thighs so I can sit comfortably in their lap, big arms so I can hold onto them when we are walking together, a soft tummy that moves when they laugh and when they fuck into me. Like!!! Fat butches and fat studs, skinny, mid size, and any studs and any butches anywhere in between, you are wonderful! If you have stretch marks, scars, visible double chins, disabilities, acne, you are wonderful! regardless of your race or gender identity you are all wonderful and handsome and strong! thank you for existing. the lesbian community, especially within butch/femme dynamics is incredibly lucky to have you in it. You make me feel so safe and loved. Thank you

Femmes, femmes who are fat, femmes who have stretch marks, femmes who have big bellies, arms, and thighs. Femmes who have visible double chins, femmes who have big cheeks and fingers!! You are gorgeous to me. Femmes with stretch marks, acne, scars, disabilities, femmes who are fat, thin, mid size, or anywhere in between, regardless of your gender or race, you are all beautiful and wonderful and lesbian. It's okay to have preferences, but it becomes an issue when your preferences are causing harm and stem from racism or fatphobia or anything else. When you are only respecting those you find attractive, when you are only holding space in your heart for those with smaller bodies, when you only value the opinions of those whose skin is pale, you are way less likely to be a safe space for others. You are less likely to care about the others in your community, less likely to treat those in larger bodies with respect and dignity. Society already treats fat people as something disgusting and something to be laughed at and looked down upon, and we don't need this in the lesbian community when this is supposed to be a space for us to exist freely in. The lesbian community is already pretty small, we don't need to bring even more hardship onto those in our community, those who are different than us deserve love and care too. We need to uplift and support each other, we are all we have at the end of the day. Let's make our space a place we can all sit comfortably in, regardless of how we physically look 🦇🖤

I get you about the DTS Singapore episode, but I also want to share some other thoughts: I'm sure to some degree they will bias it towards Carlos doing an 'amazing' job because he ended up winning and for non-f1 fans who don't know the drivers well I guess it works for the drama to show someone winning in between Max's domination.

However, in the last season DTS actually did really well to show behind the scenes bits of RB talking about how Ferrari were fucking over Charles and how Charles should be the priority, and in the Silverstone episode they made a point of showing that Charles got screwed over and Ted saying 'What a day for Ferrari, but they won with the wrong car.'

I think the DTS producers do care about and support Charles. And the producers have said that they look for certain drivers to be the 'face' of the show. Mainly they mean having someone charismatic and funny like Daniel was, for marketing purposes, but of course thinking of the storyline and the drama of the show, it makes more sense to focus more on the drivers who will have a good arc, i.e. might win a championship one day. I definitely think they are following Charles more for that, because they can see he has more 'potential' for interesting content for the show than other drivers.

Like remember Netflix supposedly filming Charles ice climbing last January? We might see that clip in this upcoming season. They definitely seem to care a bit more about Charles. I expect there will be some clips showing the positives to Charles' year.

You are absolutely right. I do agree that if it's a Ferrari based episode then there is a lot more room for nuance(it will still hurt me personally)

Given the fact it's been clear the Ferrari are making Charles the future I'm sure you're right that DTS want to follow him as the main thread for the Ferrari narrative.

However I see so many people misinterpret that race from a Ferrari, RB, Merc and even a Mclaren perspective. There were so many fuck ups, and weird stars aligning. My worry is that any nuance will be sacrificed to make it more dramatic for the newer fans that the show is bringing in. Especially since that was such a big complaint about this last year, that the sport got "boring" (which I completely disagree, if watching Max make F1 history is boring then we are all truly lost as a sport) So I can easily see them make it a mid season episode to give the idea that Red Bull struggled more than they did? I don't trust DTS not to pull something like that.

I would also be okay with an episode focusing on the behind the scenes at Red Bull and more info about why that race was the odd one out, where they struggled etc. Like give me Christian and the team frustrated and Max's feedback about what's off about this race.

But given that the large narrative is going to be Red Bull domination and Max's insane season, I fear they may fall into the trap of overplaying the only non-RB win.

It has the potential to be a great episode because it's actually a VERY interesting race from an analytical standpoint, but I just see people run the wrong direction with it all the time.

I am hoping that we are going to see them laying the groundwork for Charles and building towards the next steps for Ferrari this season.

I will say as much as I am dreading Singapore, I am jumping up and down for Vegas because I know they are going to talk about it and hype Charles up(overtake of the year, and one of the most positively reviewed races as far as fans being excited about the actual racing)

Okay, first off, I don't police who follows me. I can't there's almost 3600 of you at this point, like I only look up people once they start directly interacting with me with replies on my posts or if they leave interesting tags in reblogs. It's not something I want to put my effort in - I make my writing for the fandom at large.

Second, it's not 2020 when we all looked around and saw who was rbing who and following who and posting/liking what. I was in that space for a good year and I feel sick to my stomach thinking about it and what I'd do, especially for approval. That's a really tiring way to interact with this fandom and I'm trying to have fun.

Third, I think at this point Enji's arc has developed that I understand people who are Stans of him, even if he still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Like it's not a narrative that really appeals to me, but a lot of people do want people like Enji to redeem themselves and that's why they like them. I've been friends with people who've explained that to me years ago and it didn't stop us being friends. The abusive parent getting better has always been cited to me as the main reason and like... I get that. It's not something that makes me feel better, but i get why others want it.

Fourth, I just think it's weird to go ask this shit each time. Follow who you like, unfollow who you like, etc. One of the big personal fights I got into 2020-wise (behind the scenes) was over the idea of Enji rpers being in our group spaces, and as much as I got the repulsion, it never felt right excluding them especially once I started seeing that rhetoric apply to Hawks RPers like me. I think there's interesting things about Enji and complexity there enough that there would be people who would enjoy role-playing him as much as I understand that some people are triggered by his presence. So my stance that acceptance but those who were triggered could just not interact with the character in those roleplays was seen as quite soft and not punitive of people daring to find something interesting to explore in him and I think that's indicative of how much anger and venom we all had for each other 2020-wise.

Fifth, yeah, just follow who you want to follow. If I get bothered by tags on rbs, I block or ask you to stop. That's it. It's never that complicated. We're here to have fun. I am not a serious blog.

I wanna start by saying I personally don't mind non-disordered/endogenic/etc to use the term system. I'm just here to give a substitute and why. Also a few extra things, because I like writing.

So, we aren't 100% sure if system is a medical term or not because of the amount of mixed information, so let's say it is for simplicity sake. If someone can provide linked sources, it'd be appreciated!

Now, I've seen a few systems and plurals agree that the term system is medical and/or defined as "a system of dissociated parts". It makes sense as DID/OSDD are dissociative disorders and is a medical condition. So, something medical applied to something medical.

We haven't seen a good non-medical substitute for it, unlike the term alter with its many variations. Why isn't there one for system?

We could use "junction" as a substitute, as it's defined as 'a point where two or more things are joined'. I don't think it's been used in the medical field when talking about DID/OSDD, so it's not medical. I personally think it could work.

Another thing about having the substitute term is those who see system as a medical term to use it when referring to those whose plurality is non-medical, or their own! Because saying "my plural" is kind of weird, huh? There are other ways to say it, but having the term makes it easier from my view. A win-win situation!

A problem that can arise is some people claiming it as a medical term, when it is not. The thing we can do is emphasize the absence of its usage in the context.

A substitute can lessen the arguing about the usage of system too. Both parties get what they want and need.

I've been thinking lately about the hate on the MCU that goes around on Tumblr. Because usually I just srcoll pats it you know? I like it, you don't, that's fine hate on anything you want I'll just move on with my life.

But there's a certain air of superiority that comes with it. Like I see people here that will ridicule the MCU and get on a high horse for it like their tastes are so superior because of it when they are, as any normal person would, liking and sharing content from equally mediocre or "cringe" media.

I've seen people saying the MCU is thrash while rbing Sonic The Hedgehog fanart. I've read people argue how bad the MCU is followed by a six paragraph post about klance and Voltron's writing (well back when it was popular here of course). I've watched someone bash the MCU and then go on a rb spree of panels from the Big Two comic book companies.

And I want to kinda go on on this point. Because, listen, comic books are a medium not a genre, there are loads of incredible stories but from stablished companies and indie authors, but when it comes to companies like Marvel and DC I thought it was common knowledge in reading circles that they are mostly TRASH, like genuine garbage, like I can't even say that there's ooc stuff there because there are so many decades of writing and writers that there is no actual "canon" interpretation of a character it's just a jumble of characteristics thrown around to work with the current narrative. Every once in a while you get to one that blows your mind, that changes your whole world view and you think "wow I love comic books!" And then it's trash again for a while. The best you can do is pick your favorite writer like King, Taylor, Morrison, etc and HOPE they will work on a character you like.

And that's okay! Not every issue has to be world changing and as long as you're having fun that's fine! But the thing is this ALSO applies to the MCU.

And I get the criticisms, the MCU is backed by the US Army, it doesn't develop meaningful relationships most of the time, and such but like...you do know that that also applies to most comic books from the Big Two, Sonic and Voltron?

Sonic The Hedgehog is known for his bad games where maybe one every 15 will be actually enjoyable not to mention the plot and the characters are almost non existent, and both Sonic movies are fun as hell AND backed by the US Army.

Voltron was...you know what I don't even have to say it that's a low blow sorry.

Comics from DC and Marvel are mostly tools to sell toys, have been used to push conservative propaganda many times in the past, they routinely take pointers from news organizations, the NBA and of course the US Army with many others. Marvel made personifications of common drugs for the heroes to fight like c'mon!

All of this feels weird to me because I see the same people going like "enjoy what you like! Kill cringe culture! You're not better than everyone else!" And go straight to bashing people for liking something that has the same issues that they enjoy.

Hi, first of all this is my first ask to you (sorry if it sounds weird, cause I'm nervous while writing this).... I'm your fan (have followed your twitter and tumblr) and really love your reviews and recs, thanks to you I know which BL manga/manhwa to read next and because of you they also become few of my favorite BL manga/manhwa/manhua....

Can i ask, why do you love BL romance better than het romance? What makes them better? I did not mean anything negative, and I know everyone have their own like and dislike but I want to know your thoughts....

Also what do you think that made Asian MLM (BL manga/manhwa/manhua) romances better than western MLM romances?

Before I found your blog, I already love anime and manga but have never tried watching or reading BL, and then I found danmei novel and fell in love with them.....after that, I start reading BL manga and still continue.....Funny thing is, since I was younger I love reading novels (especially romance het western) and suddenly I lost interest....But after found MLM romamce I start love reading again...

Okay, this is going to get long and at times, personal so... idk maybe you'd like to get a cup of hot bevarage of your choice? Buckle up!

First of all, I hope you don't apologize for sending asks in the future because I don't get them often anyway, and respond when I have time. Plus, I find great joy in answering them, and your words have made me incredibly happy. I intend to write a lengthy post about it one day but I write with the hopes that other people read them, my blog is not my personal diary. And over the years, I came to detest the so-called-advice "Just do it for yourself!". 

To be honest, I've been feeling frustrated and lost about my blog & my social media accounts, especially Twitter, for a while now. I love the small circle of mutuals I have and am grateful for them. Because, when you boil it down, I'm not entitled to their time, attention, likes/RTs/RBs, in short, their support. Just because they have been, let's say, liking my tweets at one point doesn't mean they now have an obligation to fulfill. This is the reason why I've never voiced my frustrations on Twitter, the least I'd want is to seem like I'm accusing others of something they aren't obligated to do. Still, it doesn't change the fact that there's been a sharp decline in my engagement there and I feel invisible. Or ignored. But at the same time, my blog post tweets still get 2-3 likes and I can't help but feel I'm ungrateful towards them.

In the end, there's no way of pinpointing what's "wrong". Is it the way I write my posts? Is it the content in them? Is it the Twitter algorithm? According to the view count, my tweets are seen, so am I being ignored now? I have no idea. I've been considering leaving the platform for a while now, the only reason I haven't done so is because the short tweeting format is something I really like and it suits me. But with the way things are, I'll just leave it as an update account as my Tumblr once was. Tl;dr, long asks where people talk about themselves, the questions they have in mind, and what they think about the stuff I write (positive or negative, as long as there's courtesy), that exchange is the reason I write. No need to apologize for doing something that I've been wanting others to do. : )

And if my posts had contributed to helping you find something you enjoy, no matter how small, I couldn't be happier.

As for your questions, I hope you don't mind me answering them in a separate post. Because 1. my answer will be long, and 2. I'd like it to stay as a post itself instead of being buried under my personal social media rant. It'll be better if someone wants to RB it in the future as well.

Oh no problem! I know that one's worded a bit weird, honestly I just dont know how to word it better without it getting too wordy 😭 But I'm more than happy to elaborate!

What I mean is, I usually don't mind people following me if we share an f/o, but lets say for example that I reblog a piece of fanart of one of my f/os. If another self shipper reblogs it from me and tags it for their self ship with that character, then whatever tags they put on it is going to show up in my notifications, and that just personally makes me uncomfortable to see. That's why I ask that people reblog it from the original poster instead; I'm by no means claiming ownership over every bit of content I reblog about my f/os, I just don't want to see those tags in my notifs. Also in addition to that, it should go without saying that someone reblogging one of my gush posts about my f/os and saying how much they love that f/o would be pretty upsetting to me, so refrain from doing that too please. I hope this helps clear things up a bit, please don't be afraid to ask any further questions! :D

GOD. SO MANY!!!! hell yes!! okay so i'm only gonna put in a few and if y'all like it/send an ask I'll do a second installment! [brief quotes included too for fruity funsies]

- They do one of those "36 questions that lead to love" things for a Teammate Compatibility interview conducted at skysports or something, with comedic relief like Alex doing the questions. yes, they're teammates here, bc rb!lestappen or ferrari!lestappen is the sexiest possible thing. it goes like this;

“So, what roles do love and affection play in your life?” Alex asks, and he fully sounds like one of those infomercials that play at 3 in the morning asking you to donate your money to some shady church.

Max is starting to regret agreeing to this. He’s pretty sure none of these questions are actually network-approved. Charles is standing behind the camera, urging him on with his hand.

“I love...stuff. And am uh– affected by. Things.”

From behind the camera comes a laugh.

Max turns and glares at Charles, “Like you have a high horse to ride on, Mr ‘I say emotions don’t affect me but I cry every time someone brings up Finding Nemo’.”

Charles instantly starts tearing up, and this throws Max into what some people present at the scene would later describe as Complete and Total Panic, because Charles is actually crying.

- Max is somehow convinced Charles has a thing for Lando because Pierre Shenanigans. He then keeps poking at Lando to figure out exactly what he sees in Some Guy, and Charles sees Max being very intenseTM with Lando and HE'S convinced Max has a thing for Lando. Two-person love triangle, aka what many would call an 'Idiot Plot'. I adore it. an excerpt;

"Who does Charles like?" Max asks out of the blue, putting his coffee down.

Pierre looks like he'd rather take another crap season at Red Bull over this, "Charles? Charles Leclerc? No one!"

Max narrows his eyes at him.

"Yeah, he likes someone."

Max leans forward and blinks a few times. Pierre feels a little bit like a criminal in one of those interrogation boxes; it's not as cool as he'd thought.

"He likes- um-"

Pierre sees Lando trudging into the breakfast hall, eyes still squinty with sleep.

"He likes Lando!" Pierre exclaims. And promptly tries to block out the magnitude of his fuck-up.

- They're both stranded in some race location during Christmas (or some other holiday, I don't celebrate Christmas but it's still the most festive one), because of a ticket mixup like Charles had with NY-Texas, and they're both sitting all forlorn at the airport while a carol plays in the background, rubbing salt in the wound. Then they decide spending the holiday week with each other is better than spending it alone. Romcom!! BUT WITH PREEXISTING RIVALRY AND SEXUAL TENSION!!!11!! They make their own weird christmas traditions because that's how you find a family and they get a tree to decorate and go ornament shopping (yes shopping mall fics are a weakness to me idk why) ;

Like a magpie, anything shiny seems to appeal to Charles, and Max allows his every choice, unable to say no to Charles’ ‘please can we get this’ smile and his big, green eyes.

Max has mostly tuned out Charles’ constant running commentary on which ornaments are pretty and which ones are gaudy and should’ve been put on the stake instead of Jesus (Charles’ words, not his), and comes back to himself when Charles starts pulling at his sleeves.

“For the tree-topper can we get those little bobblehead figurines they make for us?”

“Like...for the angel that goes on top?”

Charles nods, “We’re getting racer-themed ornaments for the tree, so why wouldn’t we put ourselves at the top?”

Max swears he’d melt like jelly on the waxed tiled floor if the cart wasn’t supporting his weight. He is weak for this...enigmatic taco wrapped in a burrito of ambition, dry humor, and sincerity.

- This one's an established relationship, which you don't see a lot of, but I still like the idea a LOT and might get around to writing a little thing for it. Charles watches those couple videos on tiktok (he's a tiktok wag you can't convince me otherwise) and sees [insert MarriedTM grid couple] being all cheesy and goes. hmm, maybe i should try these things with Max :). An attempted impromptu slow dance in the kitchen in the refrigerator light (yall know the reference) fails, and charles' neurotic picking-everything-until-it's-perfect self is just instantly like are we a bad couple AM I A BAD BOYFRIEND :( and he subsequently freaks out bc he doesn't wanna scare max off with his weird high maintenance neurotic things (guilty of this but in a fic scenario I can make it an opportunity for Cute things). and max is weirdly endeared by it. he says. i like maintaining you <3. and then the day after there's a race and they're all synchrony and fluid and they're just. racing like it's ballet, all intricate and knowing each other down to the core. and then they cross the line pretty much at the same time and it's so CLOSE that whoever wins they're thrilled by the entire thing regardless. and charles is like. yk what we don't need cheesy couple stuff bc this. this is our thing. I've got the ending for it all written up and shiny, but no actual scenes;

Charles is okay, truly and honestly.

Because they may not be the couple that slow dances in the kitchen with eerie synchrony, they may not share a credit card or the same taste in music and movies, and they may not have nicknames for each other pertaining to sugary baked goods, but goddammit, they're amazing together.

They aren't perfect together, they don't fit like perfectly built puzzle pieces, and that's what makes them amazing.

Because if perfect isn't motor oil and the smell of burnt rubber on asphalt, if perfect isn't speed and sweat and the sharp edge of a knife, pushing hard on the acceleration and pulling each other to their very best, if perfect isn't the sting of antiseptic pressed against fresh wounds, tenderness echoed in tissues soaked with blood, if perfect isn't stupid dirty jokes and midnight bickering and elbowing each other under the table to keep from grinning in situations where one should not grin, then Charles doesn't want perfect anyway.

Charles wants this - wants Max.
