you know what i’d like to see? i’d like to see Andrew realise what Neil’s duffle bag means to him. that he’s carried his entire life inside that bag for years. that, after all, they’re not that different — it’s not like Andrew got to take much from foster home to foster home.

i want Andrew to start buying random things for Neil. little things, big things, unimportant things. small trinkets that don’t mean much, except they mean that Neil’s whole life can’t be packed into a bag anymore. that he can’t just run in the middle of the night.

by the time Andrew graduates it would take a whole moving truck to ever put all of Neil’s belongings in. and they’re scattered too. Neil has stuff that is his — only his — not just at PSU, but at the house in Columbia, and at Andrew’s new place too.

so when Andrew graduates — through kisses and promises and badly-hidden sniffles — he gets rid of the old duffle, and replaces it with a beautiful leather holdall (something good enough for Neil) so that Neil can pack his stuff and come see him on weekends or during break.

and Neil can’t fit not even a tenth of his things in it, but that’s okay because this bag isn’t a tool to help him run and hide. but it fits just enough for him to come and see Andrew: for him to come home.

you and Monster met in same class in university when it was first day of the semester. you two accidently seat together and when teacher started to read materials to the group, everybody started to type in their laptops so fast that poor boy were so confused. in the end of lecture you noticed that he barely wrote anything and clearly was confused to ask someone for leacture notes. so you kindly offered him your texts and asked to exchanges your emails, so you could easily send notes to him.

in the evening Monster recieved notification about incoming file. when he opened it he saw your texts from lecture and bull emoji added in the end (which you swear you put there unintentionally, just because he reminded you that cute emoji). he spent solid 15 minutes to upload notes to his laptop and another 10 minutes to write an answer to you and ask if you can teach him how to type that fast and how to insert that emojis in his works. in fact, this response looked more like an order than a request. imagine sitting at home, comfortably ensconced at a table, watching some kind of TV series, or preparing for the next day and getting an answer that looks like "hello. thanks for the notes. teach me how to type that fast. and how to insert such picture? thank you."

"such a technologically challenged granny," you thought to yourself as you chuckled looking in the monitor.

so here you two were, sitting in café not really far from university on your 4th or 5th private IT lesson with Monster. you sit near each other and your shoulders nearly touched. Monster carefully listend to what you explained to him and showed on his keyboard. it was already five pm and golden light on sunset filled to café you two set in. and when he rose his eyes from your fingers on his keybord to your face he felt how his breath stopped. like he was on football field again, someone knocked him off and his breath got lost. your face was filled with golden light, the hair reflected the light of the setting sun even more strongly, and it seemed as if it was glowing. and then he made the greatest mistake, he turned his gaze lower to your lips… he didn’t hear what you told him, he simply was hypnotized and admired the view that opened before him.

as the golden hour bathed the café in a warm glow, the atmosphere between you two seemed to shift. Monster's gaze lingered on your lips for a moment too long, but when he finally looked back into your eyes, there was a spark of recognition, a shared understanding of something unspoken. with a smile, you gently redirected the conversation back to the task at hand, but there was a newfound connection between you.

over the following weeks, your IT lessons together evolved into something more than just exchanging technical knowledge. you found yourselves sharing personal stories, laughing at inside jokes, and discovering common interests beyond the classroom. for example he asked if you want to came to his cycling competition, just to have a look of course, not like he wanted to show off.

as the semester progressed, so did your friendship. you attended more classes together, studied late nights at the library, and you even went on that cycling competition few times to cheer for him, which also mean that you met his friends and teammates. during one race you had a talk with Monster's friend - Gyuchan. "so you and Deokbong, huh?" - he asked looking down on you. in respond you looked away and blushed. you two clearly have something in between, but never talked about. "uuh, yeah, we are good friends, i help him with all that computer stuff, and we hang out sometimes, you know?" - nervously, your eyes searched something to focus on. Gyuchan just mumbled something, nod with his head and looked up on a monitor where race been translated.

your friendship seemed to have reached a peak, or Monster lost his nerves, and one evening, when all the exams were passed, before the start of the summer holidays, once again escorting you home, he took a deep breath into his lungs and chattered quietly, "wouldyouliketogoonadatewithme?”

when you heard his words, you had almost opened the door, and immediately froze in disbelief. turning around, you rushed to him, and hugged him as tightly as possible, burying your face in his broad chest. "you're such a silly Deok!! why you needed to wait all that year?!!” - you could feel how your voice and whole body trembled and then his big, warm hands on your back and waist, gently rubbing you. “sorry..that i made you wait..” - he replied, after a little thought and in his usual, gentle tone.

looking up at him with your eyes, almost bursting into tears, you said “of course i will go on a date with you, silly Monster” - and he smiled at you for that nickname.

you spent another hour together, hugging and talking, sharing the ideas for your first date, until you finally chose the place and activity you wanted to do together. honestly you were surprised how you didn’t know that Deok had a skill with sewing, but you were excited to go with him to his classes, and finally he will teach you, something he were prof in.(something less traumatic then professional cycling race)

the date day was truly wonderful, it was hot, but the cool breeze made it a little more bearable, there was not a cloud in the sky, and there were almost no people on the streets and in transport, because the holidays began only for students.

you met at the subway exit, and grabbing Monster by the elbow, you pulled him to move quickly, to show you what kind of sewing class he attended. when you were on the threshold of the classroom, you were met by a nice woman, and after greeting Monster, she looked at you with a smile and asked if you were his girlfriend, to which you both looked down, and blushing, Deok nodded silently. the woman chuckled softly and motioned for you to enter.

when teacher showed you how to handle all the materials correctly, she left the two of you at the same desk to help other students. you watched with interest how deftly Deokbong handled the needle, and inspired, you also set to work. and so, you both spent a couple of hours, sometimes asking him for help, talking about some little things or quietly hissing when a needle pricked your fingers. this didn’t go unnoticed by Monster. when you finished your work, and it was time to get ready to leave, you thanked the woman for the lesson, promising to come back again. As soon as the two of you left the room, to your surprise, Deok grabbed your hand and pulled you along without saying a word. "wh... what? where are we going?" you asked, smiling, inspired by his determination. a couple of minutes later, you were near pharmacy, and as he asked you to wait outside, Monster disappeared through the door.

less than 5 minutes later, he appeared again from behind the door, with a small box in his hands. it was band-aids. he took you a little further, onto the bench, and taking your hand began to carefully seal the cuts left by the needle.

it seemed such a simple act of caring, but the warmth from his big, strong hands, so gently holding your fingers, gave you a pleasant warmth in your chest. but then, he bent lower to your hand, and left a light kiss on the phalanges of your fingers, gently stroking them with his hand from the inside.

needless to say that in that day he walked you to your house as usual, and in golden sunset, you shared your first, shy kiss with Deokbong Kim.

Keyboard shortcuts

The keyboard shortcuts in actual use are clearly historically contingent and path dependent - there are no standards, which means there are no ways to avoid conflict - even if you want to!

That is - unless you know every shortcut for the operating system you are compiling for and the operating system doesn't add more shortcuts and no third party programs are installed that were unaware of your presence.

Hot garbage!

In the interest of avoiding conflicting commands it would be great if people could agree on some standards.

I feel like, with [super] and [ctrl] and [alt] and [shift] and [Esc] and [space] and [Fn] - it ought to be possible to do some deconflicting here!

Since the operating system is in control of the keyboard, it can impose those standards unilaterally - it would be chaos during the transition but the future would be much better.

Except no! Inherently impossible!

Because the user will - once again - install third party software and even if we get excellent deconfliction between layers, if you install two different background services that both did their due diligence and ensured that the operating system didn't use ctrl+shift+q+w+g - it is functionally impossible for them to know about each other

Still, I want to sketch something.

NB: I've never used a Mac, maybe Steve Apple solved all of this decades ago for his platform, it seems like the kind of thing he would do. I'm gonna write like he didn't though.

The domain

I'm seeing two ways users interact with software - background/foreground - and two types of software they're interacting with - hosts and clients.

The terms are necessarily underspecified but think along the lines of

Background/Foreground

Is this shortcut supposed to consistently do the same thing every time I use it (for the OS or some background service) or might it do different things depending on which app I currently have focused?

This is muddled by the fact that the background modes have active modes e.g. if you have Nvidia Shadowplay running in the background, listening for input that tells it to turn on or off, you probably also have an Nvidia Shadowplay app that you can actively focus on.

In that case, the software is simply counted twice - it has a persistent background component and a separate component that might or might not be focused.

Host/Client

The difference between Host and Client is essentially whether the developer is responsible for intermediating with third party software. This is obviously recursive[1], I am going to pretend it isn't though.

Hardware

To the extent that your hardware sends messages to your operating system, those can be ignored for the purpose of this diagram. To the extent that your operating system sends messages to your hardware, the hardware can be treated like a persistent background service.

Scenario

You are writing code in an IDE.

Four pieces of software have five different uses for the key "e"

Your OS wants E to mean "Open default Email client."

Your Emoji Picker background service wants E to open the "Pick Emoji" dialog.

Your IDE is currently in focus and wants E to open the Project Explorer pane.

Your IDE has a plugin that format your current tab according to your Editorconfig file.

And finally: You just plain need the letter "e" in your source code.

Today: Any fucking thing might happen depending on how those different apps and plugins have their hotkeys set up.

But let us consider:

[super]+[e] opens the email client.

[super]+[shift]+[e] opens the emoji picker

[ctrl]+[e] opens the Project Explorer pane

[ctrl]+[shift]+[e] formats according the editorconfig

[e] inserts the letter "e" into the source code.

Enforcement between OS, Third party service and active client.

How do you prevent the emoji picker from squatting on [ctrl]+[shift]+[e] and fucking it all up? Especially if it is written by a third party who didn't get the memo?

Easy.

If you press [ctrl]+[shift]+[e] the emoji plugin never sees it. When the emoji picker event loop asks for new events, those WM_KEYDOWN events aren't on the list.

"How?"

From the perspective of the OS, there are three groups of software that may need to know about key events

First party background software (The OS and OS services)

Third party background software (like the Emoji picker)

Active focused client software (First or third party)

When you input a key sequence:

The OS reads through the keys:

If [super] is present, check for [shift]

If [shift] is present in the key sequence, the key events go into the Third Party pool. On receiving them, the Emoji Picker opens the Emoji dialog.

Else only [super] is present in the key sequence: The key events go into the OS private pool, where they are made available only to first party background services. The "default email" hook fires.

Else [super] is not present in the sequence: The key events go into the "focused client" pool, which is made available only to the single, currently active, focused client. They are read by the IDE.

Enforcement within active client

Write it correctly lmao

But it is just recursively the same problem! Please do the same thing!

When the IDE reads the key events out of the OS, it checks for the presence of [ctrl]

If [ctrl] is present, check for [shift].

If [shift] is present in the sequence, the key events go into the plugin pool. Upon receiving them, the formatter activates

Else only [ctrl] is present. The key event goes into the IDE's private pool. The IDE opens the Project Explorer pane.

Else [ctrl] is not present in this key sequence. The key events go into the active editor tab which inserts a single 'e' in the current file.

Expanding the shortcut configuration space

"What about [alt]?" Is that button just irrelevant? [Esc]? [Fn]?

Nah, nah. You can do a bunch with all of them. They're fundamentally the same as the shift key here. Maybe the OS reserves for itself the space of all shortcuts like [super]+[letter/number] and [super]+[alt]+[letter/number], and every other shortcut that starts with [super] is available for third party background services. Maybe clients that support plugins (browsers that support sending key events into websites) reserve [ctrl] only and everything else is fair game. However it shakes out.

Really, this is too strict, too. The purpose of the exercise is not to hobble third party background services or third party plugins, it is more to reserve a space to ensure various things don't conflict. Insofar as it can be done without leading to conflicts, you can be much more lax than this.

The two issues that brought this on are both VSCode related, because VSCode has two shortcuts.

Well, it has a lot of shortcuts. But it has two specific shortcuts that I want to talk about: [ctrl]+[b] and [ctrl]+[shift]+[e].

In the Linux keymap (VSCode has three separate keymaps for windows/linux/mac) [ctrl]+[b] opens the side pane, and [ctrl]+[shift]+[e] opens the project explorer window.

Except not for me they don't.

I am writing this text in markdown, and I have a markdown plugin installed. Somewhat reasonably, the markdown plugin feels [ctrl]+[b] should bold the selected text (that is, insert ** on both sides of the text.) And VSCode gives priority to the plugin - when my active editing pane is on a markdown document, I cannot open/close the side pane.

And the fucking IBUS emoji picker is squatting on [ctrl]+[shift]+[e]. Across the whole OS! "Yeah no matter what you're doing, you're probably gonna need emoji so we're taking first claim on incredibly ergonomic real estate for an incredibly niche use case" who the fuck accepted that pull request into my distro?

And, like, is Microsoft going to change the default key bindings for VSCode on Linux because of that insane decision? No of course not.

Are they going to change their idiocy - just to stop inconveniencing Microsoft users? Yeah that is not how I am modeling the situation unfolding I must admit.

That sucks! Shit sucks! And the only good solution is for the OS to say "We are laying absolute claim to (this namespace) for OS and background services and we are giving third parties absolute claim to (that namespace).

Which they're not gonna do but I can waste a day writing about the perfect world I want to live in.

The silence he was met with was enough to make him turn around again, doing a double-take as he looked at Jay's hollow stare and his blood-trenched gi, still red and wet in places, although some of it had begun drying and turned into a shade of dark purple. A beat of silence passed where none of them dared speak, even Nadakhan was silent.

''Jay.'' Ronin's voice was trembling. ''Where is (Y/N)?''

Jay wasn't answering. Ronin repeated his question with more emphasis, taking one step towards the Lightning Ninja whose eye's were still fixated on the ground. The thief felt his heart drop at all it could imply and before long, he was up and running towards the ruin of a building Jay had come from, his breath growing labored and eyes growing panicked as he quickly scanned the cracked pieces of concrete lying about.

Maybe they'd been hit by some of the rubble. Maybe they just had their leg stuck under some and that's why he couldn't find them. Maybe they were just unconscious and that's why he couldn't hear their voice anywhere. Maybe it was anything but what he thought it would be.

Ronin called out their name, hoping for an answer. Nothing. He made his way through the remains of the temple, jumping over what used to be a wall and entering what looked like a ceremonial hall. The ground in front of him was caved in and when he looked down, he felt his blood run cold in his veins.

He froze. There was no adequate reaction to what his mind had to comprehend. Quietly, he felt his conscience curse himself for ever growing attached to a stupid teenager that decided to squat in his flat one day.

Ronin had seen many dead bodies in his life; of his enemies, of strangers, of his dearest friend. But nothing seemed to come close to what he saw that day.

Their head was twisted to the side, Ronin thought if he'd had to see their face he actually would have started crying on the spot, their arms were splayed out on either side of them and a puddle of blood had started pooling beneath them, the rocks scattered around partly painted in bloody handprints and smears.

Whatever had happened to them hadn't been an accident. Someone had killed them. And whoever that someone was, Ronin would make them pay.

Meanwhile, outside of the building the remaining Ninja were growing more than concerned.

''Jay, what's going on, talk to us!'', Lloyd said and put a hand on his shoulder.

''It's…the…he-'', Jay stuttered as he looked down at his hands which were dark red from the dried blood. He could still see the live fading in their eyes.

''Ohh, I understand now'', Nadakhan throatily chuckled, ''My, what a conundrum that must be for you, Jay. Two people so close to you being at each other's throats, quite literally. Now, who do you care about more? You've already forgiven a killer once, haven't you?''

''Jay, what's he talking about?'', Kai asked next to him.

The ginger bit his bottom lip in worry and turned his face away from the other Ninja, fists clenched tight. His eyes landed on the Djinn Blade on the ground. Nadakhan must've dropped it when he was shot with the venom.

''Funny how much can change just because of one simple wish, isn't it, Jay? Say, I'm curious, which one made it out alive? My bets are on the dagger-wielding one, though I would expect they would have some qualms about repeating past mistakes-''

In a rush of anger, Jay picked up the Djinn Blade lying on the ground and struck Nadakhan mid-taunting-laugh with an aggravated yell. The Djinn turned into a little orange light as the grating sound of stone breaking shattered through the air and islands around them started to slowly fall apart.

Before anyone could get a word out, Jay was shoved around and seized by the collar of his shirt by an angry Ronin, lifted up until his feet hung a few inches above the ground. Behind him, Nya could be seen, eyes wide and still in her white wedding dress, though the hem of it had been soiled by the mud it had been dragged through.

''What did you do?! What happened in there?!''

''N-not me-'', he could barely get the words out in the chokehold Ronin was holding him in.

''Well who was it, then?!''

''Guys?''

Everyone turned around to the person that had spoken. 'The Ninjas faces dropped, Ronin let go of Jay out of shock who promptly fell to the ground with a quiet 'oof'.

''COLE!''

All the Ninja except for Jay rushed to hug Cole and bombard him with questions.

''I-it was him…he…killed them.'', Jay quietly said with hurt eyes, gently massaging his neck where the collar of his shirt had dug into. Ronin was the only one who heard it, but it was all it took for him to walk up to Cole and punch him square in the face, knocking him over.

Immediatly, Kai, Zane and Lloyd moved to stand in front of their teammate while Jay scrambled to get up and hold the thief back from punching him again together with Nya.

''OW, what is wrong with you, Ronin?!'' Cole yelled as he sat up, clutching his now bleeding nose.

''What's wrong with me?! What's wrong with you! You killed (Y/N) and you have the balls to just show up and let yourself be celebrated like some kind of deity returning from the dead!'', he accusingly pointed at the Earth Ninja on the ground.

The ground shook and a few more remaining islands started plummeting towards the ground.

''Guys, I think we better get out of here before the entire island comes down!'', Lloyd yelled.

Hope you enjoyed this! So yeah, basically Ronin gets really angry and starts physically assaulting people because do you really think that mf would express his grief in a healthy way? He would undoubtedly cry later once he can be 100% sure he's alone and then probably uproot the entirety of Djinjago's remains to find their corpse and give them a proper burial. Aaand then he would probably vow to never let anyone get close to him ever again. And maybe turn to some mild to severe alcoholism. We'll see.

EJ is that one innocent-looking yandere, a weak and fragile one that often cries on their darling's hand. Literally the emotionally dependent yandere lol, but he still falls on the category of emotionally manipulative too. You know, those yanderes that keep twisting your words against you 😒

Jo imo, is literally chill and the calmest of them all. Not the type to lay a hand against his darling, prefers to do it on others instead. I could see him as a patient one, really. So imo, his darling would fall for him rlly quick 😭😭

Meanwhile, Harua—has the same demeanour as Jo but a little more on the crazy side, meaning he's easily irritated. I imagine him as twisted as Nicholas too, but instead of resorting into physical violence—he simply would lock his darling inside the basement for months 😃

Maki since he's the youngest, I see him as the type of yandere that fools around simply for fun. That's why I added that last dialogue of him, cuz that's the way I hear and imagine him doing it. Prob not the craziest, calmest, or kindest—so he's a bit on the humane side.

Quick guide to accented letters and special characters

Hey Tolkien fandom, I've seen a couple posts and questions about this, so here's a quick guide to adding accented letters and other special characters for all those tricksy elf names when using an English keyboard.

ON A PHONE: Super simple. Select upper or lower case and then just press and hold the letter you want to accent, and a lil menu should pop up with options for that letter. Press a for á, â, ä and so on. Press t for þ and d for ð.

This works on both Android and iPhone, but the special character selection will vary by what keyboard you have installed. Some keyboards give more options than others. (In the image above, I'm using a Swype keyboard, and it gives me a bunch of stuff.) If your keyboard doesn't have what you need, try a different one.

ON A WINDOWS COMPUTER: Special characters can be entered by holding down the ALT key and typing a numeric code using your keyboard's number pad. The codes are in (mostly) numerical/alphabetical order, starting with upper case before moving to lower. So this means Á will have a lower number code than û. It also means that if you can't remember the exact code for the letter you need, you can just type numbers in sequence until you get what you want. I've only memorized a few, but from there, I can make educated guesses about where approximately I should start guessing for others.

Some common letters that come up in Tolkien's writing are:

Á = ALT 0193 É = ALT 0201 Ë = ALT 0203 Í = ALT 0205 Ñ = ALT 0209 Ó = ALT 0211 Ú = ALT 0218 á = ALT 0225 é = ALT 0233 ë = ALT 0235 í = ALT 0237 ó = ALT 0243 ú = ALT 0250 ð = ALT 0240 þ = ALT 0254

The ones I have memorized are á, ë, í, ó, and ú. If I can remember these ones, then when I need an â I know it's going to be somewhere around 0225, and I can try adjacent codes until I find it. (It's 0226). If you can't find the letter you're looking for, the Character Map app (search "character map" in Windows Explorer to bring this up) has this info and will let you copy/paste special characters into any program. If you use Word, the Insert Symbol function also does this.

CRITICAL NOTE: the ALT codes only work with the right side number pad. They will not work with the top number bar. Sorry, friends. If you have a laptop with no number pad, you SHOULD have numbers somewhere on the alpha keyboard that are accessible by hitting FN or something. As seen on this photo of my wee netbook from 2011. On this guy, I'd have to hold both FN and ALT and then type in the numeric code, meaning ë essentially becomes FN ALT mkli.

A secondary option on windows, if memorizing and entering codes is too much of a pain and you'd rather just always select the character you need, is to hold down the windows key and press . to bring up a menu of emojis and symbols. From the symbols menu (top ribbon), go to the subset of special characters (bottom ribbon). Clicking on the one you want will insert it into whatever you're typing. The frequently used (clock) subset on the bottom ribbon will save the ones you use for easy future access.

ON A MAC COMPUTER: Listen. I'm gonna be real with y'all. I haven't used a Mac since I was a kid and used to go over to my cousin's house to play math-based educational video games. You don't want me providing information on this topic because I am about as knowledgeable as a newt here. This post belongs to the internet now and if God wills it, somebody will reblog with instructions for Mac users.

I would absolutely choose to be a writer. Just sitting alone in a room all day, muttering to myself, tapping away on my entirely-too-loud keyboard, forgetting to eat or drink or occasionally breathe.

If I had to choose a rabbit hole career, I'd pick mausoleum clerk. I know it's only part time, but I'd just be doing it while waiting for my trashy novel career to take off. It's quiet, it's remote, you get to work at night, and the customers don't talk. It's literally the ideal career.

You check your phone to see the time and it's says to be almost 20:25 sharp. You had just finished your night shift working as a waitress at a local cafe. It's the usual Monday, the street is bustling with people. A few in suits, just got back from work and a few in normal clothing, with grocery bags in hand or either just their phones. You waited for the bus, a few people is with you but no one is standing since there's a bench. You stand in, look to your right and left for the bus to arrive when suddenly a man came step in beside you. He had a mask on, though "You're waiting for the bus?" You almost jump in surprise but nod your head nonetheless.

The bus screech at the stop and people got in, paying for their tickets. You thought you could finally get yourself a seat but the bus is already too full for any vacant seats. You decided to stand at the very front though, deciding it'd be better if you can get in and get out fast. The same man was just behind you, giving you a shrug of acknowledgement when you both make an eye contact. You didn't say anything, simply looking out front.

A few minutes past and the bus stopped at your stop, pulling the automatic door open and you got out in a hurry, a few people following suit. The bus closes its door and drive away.

Reo watch as you left, disappointed that he didn't get to ask for your numbers. Well he had lots of times but he's too scared, couldn't blame him you look too imperturbable. When the bus reaches his stop, he knock over an object on the floor and it's a wallet. He picked it, curious and open it curiously to see your id picture pop on the photo insert.

You just got out of the shower, drying your hair off with a towel when your phone notification sound played on your vanity desk. You look up, unlocking your phone to check your messages. It's from an unknown number; "Hey I found your wallet!" Your eyes widen, rushing to get your jacket and check the pockets and no, you did not find your wallet.

You hit him up back, nose scrunch together. You just clocked that you didn't know how to reply. What would a sane person reply to if they got sent a message like this? It's a bothersome to check the Google or the Safari, so you just reply back; "Cool."

The person sent in; "So when can I send this back to you?" Another message came in "I'm the guy at the bus stop, btw." You hit the keyboard, typing in "Tomorrow, at the same bus stop." He sent back an OK and you reacted with a thumb up emoji.

The next morning, you hurried your way out of your house, grabbing a pair of shoes to match and went straight to the bus stop where you met him last night. Oh yeah, you totally didn't use the bus because you didn't have your wallet. You check your phone, open his text but stopped - What should you say? Should you just "Yo, I'm at the bus stop-" You deleted the text, purse your lips and sent in; "Hello stranger."

Reo got out of the bus, look around and find you right on the bench, sitting down with your head hung low. It looks like nothing interest you anymore. Not the warmth of the sun, or the cooling wind or the green trees and the aromatic smell of fresh brewed coffees "Hello stranger," You look up, eyes widen seeing him here, well it's not like you didn't expect him.

"Here," He handed you your wallet and you check everything inside making sure nothing is stolen. You thanked him and he nod to you. An awful, most unexpected awkward silence fell upon you two despite the loud chatting amongst the passers-by "Should I treat you with a coffee? You found my wallet and I want to thank you," Reo wanted to reject, not because he didn't want to but because he feels like there's no need to.

"I insist," And how can he say no to that. You two walk alongside to a nearby coffee shop, order yourself two cup of coffees and pastries to eat "What's your name?" He is the first to ask when you both sat down "It's Y/n." He hums, nodding his head in acknowledgement "I'm Reo!" Wow, he's very full of energy, unlike you, especially during morning and weekdays. Your orders arrived and you two eat whilst chatting. You told him a little bit about yourself and he told you a variety of what he likes and dislikes. You may not seem like it but you are very attentive. He likes cats by the way and hates vegetables.

"I had a cat at home, his name is Simba because he looks like Simba from The Lion King!" He told, sipping on his drink. You manage to crack a small smile when he showed you his lockscreen picture. It's a picture of his cat, yawning. You also asked him how did he get your number and he said he found a piece of paper you folded in a half, there's your number inside that you wrote down "Contact me if I ever lost my wallet" You had totally forget about that! You wrote that like years ago.

The two of you had a wonderful time, chatting for hours and Reo got to know about you. You didn't seem nonchalant as you look, in fact he need to scratch the fact that he said you may seem like you didn't have any interest in things. In fact, you like so many things! You like to read or writes sometimes, gaming, watching Netflix or YouTube, listening to music, drawing or painting or doing pottery, enjoying nature or just sleep and eat. You are such a bright person inside, he just got to be on the good side of you to see how much of a fun person you are.

Reo and you parted ways when he need to be somewhere and you had to go work. You two separate ways after bidding goodbyes.

That night, a notification popped from messages and you open it "Hello used-to-be stranger. Reo said he'd like to ask you out this weekend."

Another message came in, "This is Simba, btw."

Anyway it was actually quite hard to find a key that would mean something to the OS, to a background service, to a client and to a plugin at the same time - mainly because of the background service, those are typically either bundled with the OS or have the manners to not intercept keystrokes.

If I hadn't experienced that emoji plugin[1] failure I probably wouldn't have thought of this at all, even though the markdown plugin conflicted with VSCode - I would just have though "lmao this is annoying but I guess it makes sense that they're squatting ctrl-b for bold"

[1] This was such an unforced error! IBUS (the keyboard interceptor that allows emoji and unicode) comes with my distro they could have set it up to use a [super] combination. What the fuck. They know this in general - with two valid exceptions[2], every shortcut they have either starts with [super] or acts on a focused component.[3]

[2] Ctrl+Alt+Del, which is a cross-OS, cross-hardware standard, and so: Valid. No program is going to squat on that, and ALT+F2 which is a cross-distro standard and so slightly less valid but makes sense.

[3] Except NO THEY DON'T. All the ones that are listed in their online documentation are like that - if you go to the actual shortcut menu in the OS and look through it, you'll find plenty that don't start with super! This is why we cannot have nice things!

heheh...heres what i have so far for stuff <3

windows key shortcuts:

windows key + semicolon key: this opens up the emoji keyboard, which also gives you access to a gif search function (kind of like what tumblr has!), kaomoji/emoticons, alternate characters (letters with accents over them, math symbols, different kinds of arrows, etc.,), and also your clipboard!

windows key + v: brings up the same window as the above, but opens up your clipboard instead of a quick history of emoji, kaomojis, and alternate symbols. previously, this was how you opened your clipboard before windows 11!

windows key + spacebar: this scrolls through the different keyboards you have installed on your computer, i.e changing from an english keyboard to a japanese keyboard. this way, you dont need to use a website to type in another language; you just need to install the right keyboard!

windows key on it's own; this opens up your start menu.

ctrl key short cuts:

ctrl + c: this is how you copy a selection of text, file, or something you've selected in editing software.

ctrl + x: this is how to cut a selection of text, file, or something you've selected in editing software.

ctrl + v: this is how you paste a selection of text, file, or something you've cut or copied in editing software.

ctrl + h: this brings up your history tab.

ctrl + b: this brings up your bookmarks tab.

ctrl + n: this opens a new browser window, in your browser: in writing or editing programs it will open a new document or file, depending n what youre doing.

ctrl + t: this opens a new tab in your window and switches to it from your current tab. this is something you can toggle on or off, however!

ctrl + d: this bookmarks whatever tab youre on.

ctrl + shift + p: this opens up a new private browsing window.

ctrl + z: this undoes something youve deleted.

ctrl + y: this redos something youve deleted.

ctrl + a: this selects the entirety of a document, picture, or files in a folder.

ctrl + o: this opens a new file in any program. in your browser, it brings up whatever last folder you were in in file explorer, which allows you to open files directly in a browser tab (firefox allows you to directly open any files [even pdfs!!!] in a browser tab, not sure about other browsers!) or to open files in a program, like selecting a profile picture.

other shortcuts!:

function (fn) +

shift + insert: this is another way to paste in things you have selected. IMPORTANT: do note that, if youre using a writing program (such a libre office or notepad), hitting insert on its own will activate overtype mode. if this happens, simply hit the insert key again! however, if you want your text to delete whatever is in front of it, leave this on!

ctrl + alt + enter in the search bar: this enters whatever youre searching for and opens it in a new tab, without switching to that tab immediately. i personally find this very useful if i suddenly think of something to search; writing it down and opening something this way lets me look-up whatever it is i need to without distracting me from what im currently doing!

dragging a link to a new tab: does the same thing as the above shortcut; opens the link you drag without switching to the tab.

trackpad functionality:

using two fingers on a trackpad enables you to scroll without using the arrow keys or a scrollbar! using two fingers to move up on your trackpad moves a page down, and using two fingers to move down on your trackpad moves a page up; using two fingers to 'push' a page to the left allows you to go back one page, and using two fingers to 'push' a page to the right allows you to go forward a page, if you have one to go to.

tapping with two fingers acts as right clicking.

tapping with three fingers opens up your start menu.

tapping with four fingers brings up your notification menu.
