I want to talk about Dick Grayson's beauty, sex symbol status, and how it all connects for a moment.

This is a prelude to an upcoming post but I needed to include this separately because the other was getting too big.

First of all Dick Grayson is a beautiful man.

And you're probably thinking "well, no duh. Everyone knows that." but what I mean is Dick Grayson was intentionally made to be beautiful.

For a little historical context, around the late 1950s the culture in the US was changing. It was around this time, that people began exploring and accepting what they called a "feminine man".

This was really taking place in cinema and stuff where they began to show softer versions of men doing "typically female roles" as heroes.

One example is the movie "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance", a 1962 Hollywood film. In summary, it takes place in the midwest and is centered about Cowboys, gunslingers, the shebang. But the point is, there are two male leads in the movie - Ranse Stoddard (played by Jimmy Stewart) and Tom Donophon (played by John Wayne). Ranse and Tom are both the heroes in the film but with a key difference. Tom is like the sheriff of the town, loved by all and focusing his time on practicing his gun skills. The savior of women and normal people, he's the typical masculine hero. His face is rough and handsome. Ranse however was the new wave. He doesn't care about carrying the gun, he thinks it's uncouth and focuses much of his attention on sending the evil guy (Liberty Valance) to jail through laws. He doesn't want to kill and he takes a more advocative approach. He is also loved by everyone despite not being super masculine. Ranse's face is clean and almost dainty in comparison to Tom and Liberty Valance's.

Despite the complete opposites they are, both men are considered heroes. On one hand, you have the very male typical hero but on the other hand, you have the feminine male hero. At one point the evil guy laughs when Ranse walks in wearing an apron because serving tables is a "woman's job", but Ranse doesn't let it bother him.

How does this connect to Dick Grayson?

Dick Grayson is the feminine hero of DC. DC jumped on the pretty boy hero train.

That's also why in the Teen Titans (1966) comics, Dick keeps being referred to by endearingly feminine pet names by the titans which they seem to only use on him.

Standard gender roles: Men were expected to be strong, aggressive, and bold while women were expected to be polite, accommodating, and nurturing. Sound familiar about a certain duo?

But Dick? He plays both male and female gender roles in a time period where it wasn't socially acceptable to do so.

So my point is, Dick was created to blur the lines between gender and the way his character has progressed - he's meant to be the definition of a man opposite to male toxicity.

He can cook and do laundry whereas Bruce, the image of male dominance cannot.

This also falls into another role of Bruce and Dick's but it applies here as well in hindsight.

One thing people need to understand is that Dick was created to be the antithesis of Bruce Wayne. For all the gloominess that Bruce is Dick was meant to be the joy. He is the light to Bruce's darkness.

Which is why Dick often acts as the loving mother to the batfamily while Bruce acts as the stern father. Because Dick was created for the female role.

Part of the reason why I love Dick and Kory is because they do this at a time where girlbossing and malewifing wasn't a thing. Kori is consistently the dominant one when it comes to love in their relationship while Dick plays a softer, more "wife like" role. The way Kori is taller than Dick and buffer than him ✨

He is quite literally a queen consort - that is the role that Kori begs him to take after she is forced to marry someone her father picks out for her. But Dick refuses in tears because his morality cannot bear becoming a mistress and ruining someone else's marriage.

I know this is a long tangent but here's where the sex symbol comes in. Dick was created to be the most beautiful figure in DC but him being beautiful is not supposed to be confused with him being objectified.

Being beautiful is just something he was born as. What people do as a result has nothing to with DC

Take this for instance

He's literally just showering and comes out of the shower to find a random little girl singing about his and batman's identities. Creepy? Yes. Very much so. So he chases after her and finds her gone. Well there's nothing he can do now, he needs to go back and analyze what's going on and contact the other titans-

Crap.

Look at all the women that are ogling him, and even the ginger looks as if he doesn't know if he's jealous or wants to join - but there's nothing Dick did to make them do that. He's literally minding his own business and got caught outside. Did he hit on the women? Did he seduce them? Did he purposefully show off and make a loud commotion because he wanted the attention? No!

Arguing that Dick Grayson shouldn't be a sex symbol just seems wrong to me considering that it's not a fault of his.

It's like telling Kori not to have large breasts and telling Dinah not to wear fishnets.

People still ogle them regardless of how they dress because they're just that attractive. You can't tell someone to look a different way because you don't like the attention they're receiving...that's literally the opposite of everything people should be fighting for

Arguing that Dick Grayson being a sex symbol is a problem because he's too beautiful and blaming the actions of other characters for thinking so is just...

it's wrong.

He was created to be beautiful to fight male toxic masculinity. He's woman coded for a reason.

We should be embracing him. He represents everything male freedom should be about. He constantly placed in a female role, in female positions-

In queer positions-

He's acrobatic, slender, and sensual. He's gentle, loving, and beautiful.

When has the beauty of a person ever been a reflection of their character? The way fandom is going, it's implying that because female characters make sexualized comments about Dick's body, it's somehow Dick's fault for looking that way. We're blaming him for his "womanizing" ways as if he hasn't put his heart and soul into every relationship he's had. And while we're busy calling him a womanizer, we conveniently forget that the women he's in relationships with have significant personalities of their own. We inadvertently reduce their beings to plastic bags, ignoring that they have broken up with each other because of being unable to resolve conflicting beliefs, different career paths, different lifestyles, and more. It's not a one way road with our treatment of Dick. It's a two way street because we're harming both Dick and strong women like Kori, Barbara, Bea, Shawn, and Helena by pretending what they believe in and live for is unimportant in love.

Instead we should be exploring how the objectification might have an impact on Dick's mental health rather than blaming DC for using characters to describe how hot Dick is.

All the beautiful traits of Dick Grayson - his ambiguous sexuality, his overwhelming love for people, his affection for his friends, the way he cries and feels for others - all of it is beautiful, is it not?

From his very creation Dick was meant to be someone who breaks gender roles. The constant attraction he receives from both men and women in all of DC's media is evidence of that. The Grayson comics push the boundaries of his sexuality as much as DC will allow. To be queer without coming out with it. He is the feminine hero.

Everyone seems to hate that he's being called a sex symbol but why does that bother you? Dick Grayson IS the pretty girl of the comic universe. He IS the babygirl of DC.

DC has created the perfect view of what it's like to be a woman through Dick Grayson and we're spitting on the most accurate representation of a female that comics have ever created by blaming them for expressing what it's like to live as a woman.

Octavia Redesign🌒

Made my own take on Octavia for fun!!!! I always loved how casual her look is compared to her parents more regal styles. Also dig her having a celestial motif⭐️.

Because for my take, Stella has a sun motif while Stolas still has a moon motif. I gave Via an eclipse motif🌙☀️🌒!!!!!! Why I added darker colors, more circle shapes and for her eyes I was going for an eclipse. I kept the star motif from her OG aswell but I made them into pentagrams and smaller sparkles and constellations for her mesh & hat. Fun fact, apparently during eclipses you could see all kinds of different stars and even planets!!!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🪐🪐🪐🪐🌌🌌🌌🌌🌌

Pushed for a Nu-Goth aesthetic with celestial motifs, I figure it’d fit well for her whole love of the occult☠️🔮🌌

Switched out the sweater for a purple dress with sparkly mesh. Casual but still very classy for a Goth Princess✨✨✨✨✨👑👑👑

Made her hair longer with a dark purplish gradient. Ngl Marceline the Vampire Queen(Adventure Time) and (Teen Titans)Blackfire gave me inspiration. Also gave her V-bangs.

I really wanted to add more of her mom’s physical traits into her, show her as a mix of her dad and mom for the eclipse theme. @lovesart23 Octavia really helped me consider on how to add her moms swan traits. She has a gradient glow which she gets from her dad but also has long lashes which is part of her mom’s eye marking developing. I can see most assume it’s eyeliner. Also made her body type more of a medium of her dad and mom’s figures.

Went for purple instead of pink. Stella(pink) + Stolas(blue) makes purple! It’s also a color that symbolizes magic, royalty and very gothic💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Removed the boots, giving her a mix of her dads and mom’s feet. Has webbed so she can swim well being part swan 🦢

Gave her skin a purplish gray tint as cygnets(young swans) have gray skin so I imagine she’d still have a bit of gray.

Made her tail less big. Also gave her talons like her mom but black🖤

Replaced her crown beanie for a more gothic Wide Brim hat with constellations 🌌

Gave her hair a gradient as when she was a kid which I assume is from Stella’s side since It was shown she had some white gradient and I wanted to bring that back to show her also getting it from Stolas’ side with his gradient.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? This was kind of a hard question and it took me way too long to answer, so here, have the three runner ups.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Unlike the last one, this one was so easy to pick because, yeah... I'm an angsty girly for sure so the pool for REALLY happy endings was SMALL.

8. Do you get hate on fics? I don't remember that I ever have? Thought I thought a couple might get hate, they didn't.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I tired it ONCE. And you know what happened? The sex was interrupted by trauma and they characters had to top to talk about the whole thing.

There is also that other one time but we're not going to talk about it.

But all in all I'm much more interested in exploring gen stories ✨

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? I LOVE crossovers. I don't have many, but I am plagued mentally by them. I have 3 posted (only one on Ao3). And I'm not sure which one's craisiest. But the 2 on FF are both Rise of the Guardians crossovers, one with Avengers and the other with LES MISÉRABLES. What was younger me smoking? I would really like to know.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I'm aware 👁

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? I think someone might've asked one or two times? But I honestly don't remember, if it ever happened, it was ages ago.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Oh yes! It's always so fun to me. I've done it a couple of times with @slightly-crimson-tornado and I'm currently working on one with @pushing-daisies-renaissance ✨

14. What’s your all time favourite ship? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Steve Trevor x Diana Prince I think. Close runner up is definitely Satine Kryze x Obi-wan Kenobi. And I'm VERY fond of Bruce Wayne x Selina Kyle.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I have a stupid amount of wips so I'll just go by posted ones. I have this story idea that I REALLY Like but I came up with it ages ago, and though i still like the idea I'm doubtful that I'll ever give it the time it deserves to go back to ):

It's a story about Natasha being trapped inside her mind and Thor getting in to wake her up. I'm still pretty fond of the general gist of it. But it's OLD now.

16. What are your writing strengths? Aaaaaahhh. Trauma management? Like, they way people go about it and navigate it; how they talk about it with others? At least I THINK that's my strength. People keep complimenting those things XD

17. What are your writing weaknesses? I am too flowery with wording and I get sick of myself. It's out of control and I sometimes can't help it.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I love it. If I can't get help I'll just wing a google translate, or god forbid do some research on structure. I'm BAD at it, but I love it and use it frequently.

19. First fandom you wrote for? Inazuma Eleven (anime) hehe. Love of my youth, protect me.

20. Favourite fic you’ve written? I love this this Twilight one-shot I wrote some years ago. It made me suffer a lot (for reasons you can find in the author's notes) but the idea has always had a tight grip on me. I really like it (and hope to got I can get the sequel out one day).

1. Loki (MCU)

Look, this is the undisputed number one spot. Loki has been my ride or die for the past 14 years (!!!), my first tattoo is dedicated to him, and he’s the character that got me through the loneliest and scariest periods of my life. Loki will always be my number one, tbh.

2. Dream of the Endless (The Sandman)

Now, Dream is the character that simply bust down the doors to my heart and took residence, no questions asked. Through Dream and The Sandman fandom I was able to connect to parts of my identity I wasn’t aware of, and to make so many great friends! Dream means a lot to me (so much so that my *second* tattoo is of the dreamstone— in a grand total of two lol)

3. Edward Elric (Full Metal Alchemist)

Ed is the blueprint of the pissed off short king tbh. I always related to how he dealt with guilt and how driven he is, and his character arc was one of the most captivating I’ve ever had the pleasure to experience. As a 14 year old, I would for real go out in public wearing his red cloak.

4. Chrono (Chrono Crusade)

If I have unreasonable expectations of Love, Chrono is the one to blame. Throughout the entire show (and the manga, which I do feel has the better ending) his dedication and kindness to the people he loves and cares about was just incredibly captivating to a 12 year old Virgo. Real character building stuff.

5. Sora (Kingdom Hearts)

Sora had the sickest shoes and my taste for unreasonably large and perhaps sorta ugly sneakers comes from him for sure. I just love that spiky little guy.

6. Raven (Teen Titans)

Raven was honestly the first character that made me go “she’s just like me fr!” There was always something super fascinating about her, and how complex she is. It was nice seeing female characters like her and Starfire in cartoons.

7. Howl Pendragon (Howl’s Moving Castle)

I identify with Howl in many ways, but mostly in how dramatic and absolutely pathetic he is. Also I do feel like a monster sometimes and a way to visualise that is to imagine I’m covered in green slime.

8. Haruhi Fujioka (Ouran High School Host Club)

Ouran should have been my queer awakening, but I think I was too young to realise I was what a large part of my identity was unlocked through this character. Main girlie with a drag queen dad that doesn’t bow to gender norms and just , wants to be left alone please leave her alone she doesn’t want all the trouble come on—

9. Chihiro (Spirited Away)

She was a child, in a shitty situation, learning to find strength within herself to keep going, to trust her instincts, to keep surviving. She means so much to me!

10. Nick Nelson (Heartstopper)

Nick is just oddkdkdkdkdkddkfo he’s allowed me to have good feelings about bisexuality!!! About my teenage bi experience!!! The whole of Heartstopper, really, but Nick’s kindness and his whole journey of self discovery helped heal something in me. Good retriever boyfriends for the win!

I didn’t want to repeat a fandom, but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Bucky. Another character that I just immediately clicked with, and watching him be developed in so many different movies (and even a tv show!) was very special.

1. Yes! That's definitely something that's happened to me before sometimes!

I remember when it happened to me with Harley Quinn when I saw her in a newspaper photo for the first Suicide Squad movie when it was still supposed to be coming soon in theaters and I didn't know who she exactly was at the time, but she caught my attention cause she looked like a really fun character! And it also happened with Captain Marvel too when I saw her suit in the MCU's Captain Marvel movie, cause I thought that her suit looked really cool, but then I didn't really like her that much later on after learning what her character was like in the modern comics. There's some other ones that I found out about too just by seeing their cool designs but I can't remember most of them right now

2. Yeah, there are some characters that I love but don't get to draw all the time

Like: the Teen titans group from the original animated series (Robin, Starfire, Beast boy, Raven, Cyborg, sometimes Terra), but I definitely would used to always draw them a lot and I would used to always fill my sketchbooks and notebooks up with them!💗 I still draw them sometimes though, just not a lot like I used to

And also, thank you very much!✨ It brings me millions of joy to know that you love my art!!✨💗✨

3. Yeah, I have ocs, a lot of them actually lol, original ones for original stories, horror ocs for an old fandom I used to be in but later left, I also have some DC one's but they're mostly old ones, I only have a couple of new DC ones that I created last year, which are just mostly civilian and villain ocs. The old DC ones were next gen teenage Teen Titan ocs who are the kids of the one's from the original animated series

I'll probably reveal the old Teen titans next gen ones in a separate post in the future

And for headcanons..... Hmmmm🤔....

When Jon was a toddler, he would used to carry the little Ladybugs that he would find outside on the farm in his pockets and put them in a jar to keep, with little holes made on the top of the jar for them to breath, though because of the breathing holes that were made for them on the top of the jar, they all escaped and were crawling all over the kitchen together in a group in the morning and scared Lois while she was making breakfast for the family. Clark, after quickly coming into the kitchen due to the loud scream that had came from his wife, saw them all too and Jon, who had also heard her, came down the stairs from his room and was shocked to see that all his pet Ladybugs had escaped from the jar he had kept them in

Clark quickly put them back outside, getting rid of them all and explained to Jon, who was very sad about losing his little ladybug pets, that he can't be collecting bugs and be bringing them into the house, cause they're little creatures that belong outside with nature. After that, Jon realized that it probably wasn't a good idea and apologized for bringing them into the house

Harley Quinn loves to listen to 80's music sometimes

When Clark and Lois were both young and were still just dating, they would both always go out together for ice cream soda. It's something that they still do in the present, especially with the kids now, Jon, Chris, and Kon

the o'hara's were one of the richest people in america. and with their wealth, they knew that they wanted nothing more than to create a family and make sure their richest stayed in their family. so when they planned to have a child, they didn't expect that they would end up with two. but it was perfect for the family when they saw that they would have a little girl and boy. after that they knew they didn't want anymore.

their life was perfect. at least as perfect as it could be. but cillian realized that it wasn't as perfect as they made it seemed. most of his life, he grew up with two people, his own sister and the housekeeper. their parents were always so busy with their lives. a businessman and an actress and model, when did they ever have time for their kids? yes, they did their best, loving them, being there for them, but they were following their own dreams.

the kids were always spoiled. and most would end up seeing them as rotten to the core at times. cillian never really liked most people getting close, while his own sister loved people, for the fact that she wanted to be the center of them all. and it was like that during high school when they both went to boarding school up north. and that's when they started to become more individuals.

this was when cillian, known as leon now, came to the realization that he was a bit more of the adventurer, curious about things, and maybe a little clueless at times. his sister was the smart girl, and he was well–– the himbo. and he was known as that, to the public, among his peers, and even online when he started to grow his own following. and it was nice to not try to think 24/7.

things were a little different in college. he was accepted to usc, which everyone assumed was because of his parents name, but really he worked for it. he was smart himself, with good grades, and playing sports, it helped with his application. and the four years he had during college, he found himself even more, especially in his sexuality.

now that he is out of college, with a business degree that he uses well with the combination of being an influencer. he was growing more and more, and he had a community, and followers that adored him. his own merch always selling out, and always doing sponsorships with businesses. he just wonders how long he can make this into a career, and if maybe he could do more than just be a content creator.

First off, naughty Draig, a thousand years jail in the laundry hamper that I wasn’t following you already!

I’ll be the first to admit, I was only on the edge of the Teen Titans fandom, both for comics and shows. Not that I wasn’t a fan, just I never set aside time to really delve into it like I wanted to. But even with that, I adore your Raven and all the little interactions I’ve had with her. She’s wonderfully deadpan and kind even if it doesn’t come through right away, and I really love how you characterize it and how she deals with people, especially given her experience! I feel like I learn more about her as a character in a really casual way, and it’s so cozy and relaxing tbh. Your style is just a vibe, if that makes sense?? 😎 It reads how like sitting in the quiet and zoning out the window at snow feels. A vibe™️.

And the way you describe how her powers work is so natural. It’s just a part of her, sometimes frustrating, sometimes helpful, but it’s something she’s used to and still getting used to. It’s refreshing! 💖 I love seeing the way you write her development from the inside out, and boy, do I look at her sometimes and go “mood”. I feel you, Rae.

Behold probably one of the most self-indulgent self-insert OC I’ve ever made! It’s my Robin-sona, Lila Stone! Her hero name is “The Phoenix”, which I spelled wrong on the second slide. (Plz kill me, I always spell it wrong without autocorrect.)

She’s honestly been helping me these past few months. Pairing her as Batman’s “daughter” and the semi-sibling of the other Robins have been healing me emotionally. I’ve put a lot of myself into this character and the little Gotham universe I’ve made~ (I thought it would be funny if I canonically made this universe take place in the Teen Titans Go universe lmao.)

starfire (2003 teen titans) and thor (mcu) have a few things in common. For years, I have intended to make a venn diagram but have this list instead:

1. they're an alien from outer space who is ~quirky~ in the eyes of human culture bc they're an alien; but then you see another alien from their exact same planet not do any of that quirkiness and you realize that they're not quirky bc they're aliens they're quirky bc they're autistic - like really autistic ✨

2. gender. I personally wanted to steal their gender from them - and still do. also Pretty ✨

3. love story that is really good but also characterization that independently apart from that romance is really really good - which isn't seen often in characters. both Starfire and Thor are romantics but have storylines and well rounded character depth outside of that romance. But when they do do romance, they do it well

4. Strong!!!! strong!!! Fighters! So much fun watching their fighting styles!

5. Royalty. And their responsibility to a planet that do not want to rule over but which they love dearly.

6. Speaking of! Sibling feud of a sibling who tries to harm them (at least once) despite them caring deeply for their sibling.

7. Kindness. Such a core aspect of their personality

8. Humor. They're both so funny and in a very similar vibe.

I’m just really in love with this. It provides a new perspective into a view/sentiment I get a lot and I love it so much

I wrote a really amazing fic to this and there’s something incredible when the lyrics and the scenes make sense and come together and it’s beautifully produced

This song is fucking gorgeous. It’s therapeutic even without knowing the meaning. The vocoder use is incredible to coincide with the technological lyrics and I can listen to this song on repeat for a whole day
