Happy Halloween/Samhain! They say today's the day when the veil between the spirit world and the living is thinnest, so i thought i'd share a poem i wrote while sitting in the cemetery:

Peace beyond the veil (Gloria's grave)

Living is a fate worse than death–

It is never better than a graveyard

on a warm autumn afternoon.

A stranger invited me to sit near her headstone, Mother Mary standing guard,

And I felt an easy, otherworldly peace

Known only to the Dead

Gloria and I– shared a moment beneath the sky–

as I grieved the greed and dishonesty

needed to keep us alive

Knowing

that there is pure, unfiltered peace

on the other side–

And friendly spirits

who invite you

to sit by their side.
