The whole "breasts shouldn't be politicized because the primary purpose of breasts is to feed babies!" can be a fine jumping-off point, but I really wish people thought deeper than that when we talk about the ways in which bodies are politicized and restricted.

Like, why's it that when we talk about breasts, they must have some Higher Purpose? It's true that breasts aren't inherently sexual, but they aren't valuable solely because they can potentially feed a baby. A human body doesn't have to serve a Higher Purpose in order for it to not be legislated against or policed, and I just wish people would remember it isn't always about babies, about other people, about anything else other than the people who have that body.

If you had an employee who was perfectly civil and did all their work but just didn't want to be your friend what would you do?

I actually had a similar situation a while ago, not with an employee but a colleague! I was on a show with an actress who was really, really cold to me - to the point that some of the crew even commented on it like, "I can't believe I've just seen her do that, she's never this rude to anyone else!" After one incident I asked her whether I had done something to upset her and she denied it in a very odd, stiff way, so I was scratching my head a bit.

I reflected on my own behaviour and eventually I hypothesised (never found out if this was true, so it might all be in my head) that I might be accidentally activating her insecurities for a cluster of reasons, some of which weren't within my control but some of which arguably were. For example, I was pretty sure my being trans was part of it and that definitely indicated some shit she needed to work through! But I'd also been talking excitedly about my upcoming work on another show, which might have come across as bragging; I like to share my excitement, and I'm learning that some people take it as boasting when I don't mean it to be. I'd assumed she'd share my excitement because in my eyes she's much more successful than me, but you never know how people view their own careers - she might not have had anything lined up after that project and could have been really anxious about her career even though from the outside it looked good to me! (I also found out much later she'd been going through some difficult personal stuff during the shoot, so maybe she wasn't at her best - it happens!)

So having done that reflection I considered taking it to the producers but then I was like, "Y'know what? I've only got 2 weeks left on this thing, I don't have to see her much, let's just get through it." I finished the shoot with no more incidents, gave her plenty of space whenever we had to be together, and then afterwards I chatted to my agent about it too and we agreed yeah, not worth picking a fight over :)

Not sure if I'll ever run into her again but I'd be happy to start afresh if we ever did! We all have bad months sometimes <3

I'm gonna say it again, because I want to: Stede does not try to define who Ed is. The closest he comes to that is showing Ed the storybook image of Blackbeard, which he promptly realizes was a mistake and is not at all representative of who Ed is. He never tries to tell Ed what he has to be or not be, or what he should feel or not feel.

Stede will say that the caricatures of him are not him, something which Ed himself has pointed out. Stede gets mad about how other people define Ed without knowing him. The one time he says that Ed is a "bloodthirsty killer," which he knows isn't true, he promptly gets drunk and hates himself.

There's literally zero strings attached to his love or his friendship. Ed does not exist to fulfill an image Stede has of him. Stede just wants to love him.

i honestly think people would like mary more if they just, for a second, thought about the reason behind her actions and not take their actions at face value and immediately assume the worst

because of course, mary would go to arthur for help, her younger brother is with a dangerous cult who plan to kill themselves "for chelonia" and arthur is the most capable man she knows to be able to save jamie from such a horrible fate, i mean, her dads an abusive alcoholic, her husbands dead and her mothers dead too, it's clear (to me) that she lives a very isolated life, likely due to her father, so she goes to the man she knows can save her younger brother.

because of course, she gets upset when you reject her, as that means that jamie would die and she'd not only lose her younger brother but likely the only person who loves (and she loves back) unconditionally.

she isn't being "manipulative" she's fucking scared! and angry! and she has every right to be.

because of course, she doesn't want to join arthurs gang, a gang where she would absolutely be mistreated by the members in the gang, by dutch, who would see her as a threat to arthurs loyalty, by susan, who thinks that mary acts above her station, by john, who would likely hold a grudge against mary from remembering how arthur was when she broke their engagement, by micah, who is so vile n misogynistic to all the women in the gang.

because of course she wouldn't want to be in a gang where her life is in danger constantly, hers moreso seeing as annabelle died by colm's hand, a rival gang, bessie died through sickness, eliza died from a burglary, all three of the old guards have lost a partner.

because of course, she wants arthur to run away with her, to a life of safety and love, so arthur could live without the threat of death, whether by shootouts, ransoms, or hangings, without the need to ruin the lives of other people so that the van der linde gang could survive.

because of course, she tells arthur that "he'll never change" because he doesn't. he starts the game being in the van der linde gang, and he ends the game dying in the van der linde gang, he is and was always loyal to the van der linde gang and repeatedly made the conscious decision to choose the van der linde gang over her every single time. she shouldn't have to waste her life waiting on a man who will never choose her, will never be as loyal to her.

and sure, to us, we have watched him change over the course of the game, but mary hasn't. mary wasn't there to watch him change, and considering the fact that she has known her longer than us, i'll believe her when she says he hasn't changed.

mary isn't evil, she isn't manipulative, she isn't a bitch, she's in love with a man who constantly chooses a life where he is under constant risk of death, over her and a life that allows arthur to be the good man she wholeheartedly believes he is.

i'm not telling you to like her, you don't have to, but I'm telling you to not assume the worst of her and criticise her for simply being flawed.

Perhaps your changing body won't suit everybody's taste, but would you rather live for yourself or for the whims of random people who don't care about your happiness as long as they're attracted to what they see?

Transition is for anybody who wants it. It's okay to be fearful. It's okay to be uncertain. But it isn't the end of the world. You are in control, and if you choose to transition to any capacity, it should be at your behest. You and your body are worthy of transition. What can he say? Guilt, and just becoming aware of how much you've missed of someone's life — someone who lived in the same house as you for years, and is supposed to be family no less — is an incredibly good motivator.

Just a few spare tapes being played at just the right moment, and couple of flyers being handed to them — well, he hardly had to do much at all. They did the rest of the work themselves, though to say that wasn't the point all along would be a lie.

All he had to do was plant the seeds, and give them a bit of water, before just sitting back and watching them grow. :]

He's just an old man, and someone very dedicated to his job. He can't just look for the reader by himself... not as efficiently or quickly as the rest of the Batfam can, anyway. So he might as well pull a few harmless tricks to at least get them searching.

After all, it's the least they could do, no?
