This is my new favorite Gender: Tired Guy all alone in his underworld castle
Like yes king!! be awkward with your nephew- tell him you don't like your family drama! don't worry bout it!! offer him sanctuary when he connects the dots- what king shit.
I 100% believe this man would gift his 80 yr old 13 yr old son a zombie chauffeur because he thinks it'd help them bond.

Quick and dirty bullet points of Nico-sides-with-Kronos verse while I’m thinking about it:
After TTC when Nico flees Camp, Nico ends up being recruited to Kronos’s army
Eventually his parentage is uncovered and he rises quickly in the ranks of Kronos’s army
Kronos plays a lot on Nico’s muddled emotions, relying on the fact that he feels isolated from other demigods, abandoned by his sister, distrustful of Percy, afraid of his powers, alone without his mother
Battle of the Labyrinth goes very differently and Camp Half-Blood falls to the Titan army because Nico isn’t there to help turn the tide of the invasion from the Labyrinth
Kronos!Nico variant where Nico becomes the host for Kronos instead of Luke--sometime during/shortly after the Battle of the Labyrinth
I think Percy would still get the curse of Achilles in this verse ( maybe Luke turned back earlier rather than at the very end?), but either way, Nico obviously isn’t the one to help him
Nico either turns back to the good guy side during Battle of Manhattan or he becomes the hero from the prophecy (”cursed blade shall reap”)
possible that either Hades or Will making an appeal to him at the end

[ CUP ]: Bringing both hands up to cup the receiver’s face, the sender draws them in closer to them in order to get a better look at their face. | ( LUKE & KRONOS!NICO ) | @stygicniron
Never look away was the scrap of wisdom that Luke let himself keep from Camp Halfblood; Chiron standing firm telling him to never back down even when terrified. Maybe that is why he makes himself look down into the golden eyes of Nico di Angelo at the touch on his jaw.
Or maybe it was relief that makes him look directly into the future he avoided. The cost he was so willing to pay passed down from father to son before his mother was even born now burning another from inside out.
His fingers drift down to grip Kron- Nico’s wrist and hold on. Look on, don’t shake, don’t waiver, feel the bite of a clashing swords and know that the ringing in your head means you did it right. “ I have been loyal. I have been good. I have done everything you’ve asked of me and was ready to die for you. ”
A step forward and he could press the blade between his ribs. End this before it began and save him as much as he could save anyone-
He swallowed.
“ I am loyal. I am good. I am ready to do whatever else you need of me. "

Find Out Your Ceresian Senator Name!
(made with love, the d20 gang put a lot of work into diversifying character names, & as I was doing my etymology post I noticed similarities but no clear formula so I thought I’d write one for funsies)
First Name: The first letter of the street you grew up on (if you didn’t grow up on a street feel free to use a town/city name, or a landmark!).
I included alternates for gender reasons - a/o means the name can end with either a or o depending on your preference, e.g. Emilio vs Emilia. You can probably also throw an -e at the end of some of them if (like me) you wanna be a bit nonbinary about it.
A - Aurelius (Adria, Andrea) B - Bianca (Bacchus, Basilla) C - Cara (Cassius, Camila/o) D - Dominic (Donatella/o, Daniela) E - Emanuel (Emanuela, Emilia/o,  Eduardo) F - Francisco (Fabrizia/o, Fiero) G - Giuseppe (Graciela, Gio) H - Hercules (Hero, Hermes) I - Ignazia/o (Imelda, Isabella) J - Jupiter (Jiovanni, Juno) K - Katarina (Kronos, Celeste) L - Lorenzo (Luca, Loretta) M - Marco (Messina, Manuela) N - Nunzio (Natalia, Nico) O - Oliverio (Ouranos, Roberta/o) P - Patrizia/o (Paula/o, Pallas) Q - Quirinus (Pietro, Ricarda/o) R - Rizzo (Rafaela/Rafael, Renata) S - Silvio (Sabina/e, Serafina/o) T - Titian (Tullia/o, Terra) U - Ulysses (Urania/Uranus, Rosetta) V - Valentina/o (Venus, Vesta, Vesuvio) W - Luigi (Mario, Rosalina) X - Xanto (Romeo, Diana, Apollo) Y - Ylenia (Saturn/Saturnus, Minerva) Z - Zappa (Mars, Melete, Diana)
Last name: The last letter of your favorite food
A - Bucatini B - Capellini C - Bavette D - Matriciani E - Pappardelle F - Scialatelli G - Spaghettini H - Tagliatelle I - Trenetti J - Vermicelli K - Anelli L - Cascatelli M - Castellane N - Cavatappi O - Farfalle P - Garganelli   Q - Passatelli R - Paccheri S - Rigatoni T - Strozzapretti U - Testaroli V - Cannelloni   W - Agnolini X - Cappaletti Y - Fagottini Z - Sacchettoni
Voila! Now just put “Senator” (or another Roman govt position if you want) in front of it. I’m Senator Andrea Trenetti!
I also did some optional funsies for those of us with dice we never get to use:
Roll 1d20

If it lands on a 1, you are straight up a loaf of bread. use the Bread Table under the cut

If it lands on a 2-10, you are a pasta dish. Use the last name chart for your first name, and use the Pasta Dish Table under the cut for your last
If you roll a nat 20, you are may choose b/w
a popular snack food. Use the Snack Table under the cut
.
you can also use the first name chart and use the snack table for your last name if you want
a Ceresian folk deity. not a senator anymore, but arguably funnier. Use the Deity Table under the cut
otherwise, use tables above as normal.

In The Ravening War, all of the senators also got “tribune” titles like “Tribune of Triscutia” - if you want one of those, you can either:
Use the last name table but use first letter of your favorite food
Use either the Bread, Pasta Dish, or Snack table under the cut
Bread Table
Roll 1d12 or use your birth month
1. Panettone (you have a little Candian on your mother’s side of the family) 2. Muffuletta 3. Pane rustico 4. Panino 5. Pita 6. Tortano 7. Baguette 8. Ciambella 9. Fugassa 10. Friselle 11. Crescentina 12. Boule
Pasta Dish Table
Roll 1d20 or how many mozzarella sticks do you think you could eat in one sitting? (if you can’t eat mozzarella sticks imagine carrot sticks instead)
1. Arrabiatta 2. Amatriciana 3. Bolognese 4. Capresi   5. Bottarga 6. Indiavolati 7. Siracusani 8. Scarpariello 9. Boscaiola 10. Fagioli 11. Lucchesi 12. di Mare 13. Napoletana 14. Puttanesca 15. Ragu   16. Sorrentina 17. Tartufo 18. Valtellina 19. Zucca 20. Cacio-pepe
Snack Table
Roll 1d6, or rate the last movie you saw from 0-5 stars (or 1-6 if you don’t want to do math)
Tostito(s)
if you like you can also use Fritos or Dorito(s)
Chex (you can add a last name that describes the kind of Chex if you want)
Pepperidge (like Pepperidge farms)
Ritz
Kellogg (you can add a last name that describes the kind of Kellogg’s food item if you want)
General Mills
you can forgo the “Senator” title if you so chose and just be “General Mills”
the ancient Roman govt Ceresia is based on had a lot of interplay between the military and the government so like. Generals still have govt. sway.
you could also just be “Senator Mills”
Deity Table
Roll 1d6 or tbh just pick which one you like they’re all fun
you are now known as Ben the Original, but you have never forgotten your past life as Uncle Ben.
you are Little Miss Sunbeam, a maiden goddess of light and happiness
you are the Triple God, the Holy Trinity, and your aspects are Snap, Crackle, and Pop
you are a Keebler elf, one of a large family of forest spirits hidden deep in the mountains on the border of Candia and Ceresia
you are Umaemon, an otherworldly cat-like being with unknowable powers and dual aspects of both cat and human.
you are the Pillsbury Doughboy.

@crew-from-capulet
To be back in Capulet City and staring up at the house ahead - a house that truly been home to him; been his safe haven; a house he had left what felt like so long ago to embark on a stupid quest that only lead him to spiral down - Nico...didn’t quite know how to feel.
He felt happy - that was obvious in the warmth that settled deep into his bones at the sight of home. But he also felt the electricity of nervousness that had him pull and tug at his shirt; the ice in his veins from the fear that...that seeing everyone again...that it wouldn’t end well.
One hand now flew to his hair, picking and pull at it now. This is stupid, he groaned to himself. I should be happy. I shouldn’t be scared. But he was. And that kept him rooted to the ground; kept him from walking up to the door.

POWERS AND
ABILITIES
Percy has been regarded as one of the powerful demigods of his generation. He was even stronger and more powerful than his fellow halfbloods, it was thanks to his godly parent Poseidon.
ABILITIES
i. SWORDSMANSHIP — Percy is an excellent swordsman, even before he came to possess Anaklusmos. When he arrived at camp, he was able to disarm Luke on his first try. He is also able to hold himself against Clarisse la Rue and the Ares kids during his first Capture the Flag game at Camp Halfblood. Later on, he became the best swordsman the Camp has ever seen in a century. He also managed to defeat an entire Legion of ghost legionnaires that died on Alaska and kept on resurrecting almost instantly the moment he “killed” them.
ii. BATTLE REFLEXES — Like all the other demigods at camp, Percy Jackson has battle reflexes that keeps him alert and focused on the battle that has saved his life lots of times. It also helps him notice small details about situations and enemies that led to him winning fights and battles. This was often mistaken and diagnosed by mortal therapists as ADHD or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
iii. READING GREEK — Like most demigods, Percy was diagnosed with dyslexia as a kid, which makes writing and reading English harder for him. Despite this, he can perfectly understand and read Ancient Greek texts. His brain is hardwired to understand it.
iv. DREAMS — Percy’s dreams are unpredictable, but also very potent and raw compared to most demigods, except Nico di Angelo. He witnessed some of the dealing and happenings with other demigods, specifically Luke and Kronos in his dreams. Back in Camp Jupiter, he was also able to see Annabeth Chase back at Camp telling him to wait for him as they were coming to get him. He was also able to communicate with Tyson while he’s asleep on the plane, and while Tyson was in Vancouver looking for him.
v. SUPERHUMAN DURABILITY — Due to his parentage, Percy was gifted with superhuman durability that is unrivaled by anyone at Camp. He displayed this ability a few times in the series, mostly when he’s fighting monsters. One example of which is when he was fighting the Laistrygonian ogres at school and he got hit by a dodgeball and survived.
vi. SUPERHUMAN STRENGTH — Percy also has unrivaled superhuman strength. Best example of this is when he held the weight of the sky in the place of Artemis. Although Poseidon said that only those who have the qualities of a true hero can hold the weight of the heaves, it is still remarkable that he was able to survive the curse of the titan Atlas. Another example of this is when Percy was twelve and was traveling to Camp Halfblood with Grover and his mom, he managed to kill a Minotaur by yanking its horn with his bare hands and killing the monster with its own horn. He also displayed this ability when he carried the goddess Juno disguised as an old lady who kept getting heavier and heavier with every step he took towards the camp. This was also mentioned when he was a baby and he managed to kill a snake with his meaty toddler hands.
vii. SUPERHUMAN AGILITY — With the aid of his superhuman reflexes,Percy can easily dodge enemies when he needs to thanks to his superhuman agility. He also displayed this when he fought the Minotaur.
viii. SUPERHUMAN REFLEXES — Percy can sense movements, attacks and projectiles, even though it’s moving at high speeds. He can deflect attacks with ease, and he even split an arrow coming in his direction that is flying at 1700mph. He also can deflect hard to see flying bullets.
POWERS
i. HYDROKINESIS — Percy has the ability to control any body of water. He used that on many occasions in order to defeat monsters as well as enemy demigods. His aquatic powers are only surpassed by his own father Poseidon. He can also make air bubbles underwater for those. People or creatures who can’t breathe underneath it. The limits of this power is still unknown.
ii. CRYOKINESIS — Percy has limited control over ice. He can also solidify water and liquefy ice.
iii. GEOKINESIS — Since he is the son of Poseidon, also known as the god of earthquakes, Percy has the limited ability to cause earthquakes or tremors. But this ability of course is surpassed by Nico di Angelo, Hazel Levesque, Poseidon, and Hades.
iv. WATER SOLIDIFICATION — Percy possesses the ability to increase the surface tension of water, making it a solid but it’s still water. He displayed this ability numerous times during his adventures. When he arrived at the little Tiber River, he saved Frank from the gorgon sisters by making two giant hands made of water appear and mimic the actions done by his actual hands.
v. WATER IMMUNITY — Percy Jackson can breathe underwater with unlimited duration. He also can survive being underwater even with high pressures without sustaining any damages. He can also dry himself afterwards or the object he’s holding when he has to or wants to.
vi. WATER EMPOWERMENT — Percy gains clarity, strength, and will whenever he is in contact with a body of water. It is better though, if it’s seawater but still, it gives him strength and powers.
vii. HYDROGENESIS — Percy can produce water on his own by summoning the power of the ocean inside of him. Though this is limited and it takes up more of his energy than most of his powers does.
viii. ATMOKINESIS — The son of Poseidon has limited power over the atmosphere, as it is more of Zeus’ domain than Poseidon, but still he can create hurricanes and tornadoes and mix it with his hydrokinetic abilities.
ix. VITAKINESIS — Percy can heal himself when in contact with water. It is also possible to heal minor injuries of other people, but of course it works well with himself. He can also heal himself from poisoning, but it cannot heal everything like pit scorpion venom.
x. TOXIKINESIS — Percy can manipulate poison like what he did when he fought Polybotes back at Camp Jupiter when he deflected the Giant’s poison. It works best with poison with higher water content.
xi. WATERCRAFT MANIPULATION — Manipulating watercraft felt like a second nature to Percy. He knows how to operate one based on instinct. He knows what ropes to hoist and pull when aboard a ship. On top of that, Percy has a built-in navigation system inside of him when he’s on water. He knows exactly where he is and how fast the ship is moving. He also can clean boats now.
xii. ZOOLINGUALISM — Percy can talk to his father’s subjects and has divine authority over them. Percy can talk normally or telepathically with aquatic creatures and also horses since his father created horses (and even fathered a few).
xiii. HEAT IMMUNITY — Percy can survive extremely hot temperatures due to the nature of his powers and his father. But this is limited. He once survived falling into lava.
MAGICAL ABILITIES
i. MIST CONTROL — Since he’s a powerful demigod, Percy’s influence on the mist is also powerful when it comes to mortals. He can also manipulate it to a certain degree, but not as expertly as Hazel, Thalia, and Chiron.
ii. CURSE OF ACHILLES — Percy survived his swim in the River Styx and gained invincibility all over his body except for one point in his body that will serve as his Achilles heel. It aided him in his battle against the Titan Army and even the king of the Titan’s himself, Kronos.
iii. EMPATHY LINK — Grover is connected to Percy through an empathy link, which means they can communicate well in their dreams, and know when the other person is near. The downside is that, if one of them dies, the other can also die or be left in a vegetative state.
WEAPONS
i. ANAKLUSMOS — Percy’s main weapon in fighting the monsters and demigods he encounters is Riptide, or formerly known as Anaklusmos. This sword can take the form of a pen that when uncapped, turns into a three-foot long, double edged, one-handed blade. When lost in battle or just lost, the sword returns to Percy in pen form. It is made of Celestial Bronze, a material that is mined in Mount Olympus. It is very effective when fighting monsters, demigods, titans, giants, and even gods. Though, the blade cannot harm mortals as they were not important enough for the blade to kill. It has a golden glow in it that can aid Percy and his comrades when in dark places. Although the sword is not forged by Poseidon himself, it draws its power from the sea, that is why it works best when used by Poseidon’s children.
ii. WRISTWATCH SHIELD — This is a gift made by Tyson for Percy. It is a wristwatch that can turn itself into a shield and protect its user. Though the shield is not made of an indestructible material.

I don't understand the Prophecy of the seven
The prophecy of the seven isn't new, it's been foretold for years but suddenly its happening now.
Unlike the first Great prophecy, which was pretty self explanatory as to who it was about. Percy was the child of of the eldest God's who reached 16 despite everything going on, saw Manhattan asleep. And Luke's broken promise cursed Annabeth's blade which was used to kill him and Kronos. This being the decision that would either destroy or preserve Olympus.
That's good writing, very Chekovs gun and makes sense. It feels like a complete story.
But the Prophecy of the seven just refers to 7 half bloods. Which could be absolutely anyone, Infact some Roman demigod believed it was him years ago.
And no offence to the seven I love them very much but they are kinda... Eh...
Percy is Percy and also plot.
Annabeth is Annabeth and also plot
Jason is Praetor, son of Jupiter and stuff.
But than you have Piper who's a rich shoplifter without realising it, Frank who yes is a legacy of Poisideon with a cool gift but he's also been decreed to live a short life with it tied to a stick... Soo there's that. Leo who yes has fire powers but he probably maybe traumatised by them, and Hazel who's a cursed Zombie witch.
... Soo not the most promising sounding line up. Especially when you have people who are brand knew to this life with no training. Especially when you have many people who seem more capable like Clarisse.
Honestly just feels like Juno just picked whoever she deemed worthy. Although she did pick em VERY earlier on and even babysat Leo and stuck him in a fire place...
For reasons...? (Also ignoring the ethical stuff he was fireproof soo....why stick him in a fire place?)
Also that means she must've known Percy's parentage if she did have this info... But didn't tell her husband...or anyone that such a thing had happened when to there knowledge Olympus could've been destroyed.
For reasons...?
Also the seven themselves aren't enough to defeat Gaea, Nico and Reyna and play very crucial roles so it's kinda confusing why they weren't included (?)
It honestly just feels like we were given a bunch of hastely thrown together characters and a reason as to why they were important instead of actually allowing us to get to know them, who they are and why they are so important regardless of powers or status...and that because of that they must all get along instead of actually seeing them form bonds and watch em argue over relationships for 5 books...
Wait a sec...
And I gotta say, I love Percy but if he's so amazing and special... And that powerful... Why does he need 5 other demigods (ain't mentioning Annabeth cos she'd be there obviously) to help fight Gaea? At 12 he 1 V 1 Ares... yeah Gaea's a lot stronger than Ares but Percy is very powerful and was actually invincible with the Styx stuff minus that one spot. Could've just added a few godly gifts and streamed that over Hepheastus TV.
Doesn't really make sense why he'd need 5 others to help him. Maybe hold his armour?
But Star they wouldn't be helping him, they are the 7, they are equals in strength and ability and need to unite via the prophecy to defeat Gaea. Percy can't soley defeat Gaea in the same way he couldn't fulfill the last prophecy alone, the reason way the Avengers were formed, they can't defeat her alone because its not enough. It needs to be all of them working together, chosen because they've proven themselves prior to be apart of this. Because they are the strongest demigods of their generation and the fate of the world depends on them.
Said no one...
Well... Cept me cos I did just now.
And if it was said it was most certainly not executed that way. HOO is essentially Percy, Annabeth and... These side kicks.
Haven't even mentioned the whole, no one not even the characters knew who was "to storm of fire the world will fall" "oath to keep with a final breathe" and than Leo is somehow both and dies?
But he doesn't?
And finds a girl friend... Least the series ended with what was the most pressing thing for it.
Anyway now I'm imagining 12 year old Percy to go waltzing into a McDonald's car park to go beat up Gaea...
Also also actually actually... Gaea kills Leo's mum but than doesn't do anything after till HOO? She can do that but giving someone a papercut or a minor injury to get blood from them is too much for her, I get that she's asleep but okay.
Anyway I'm done ranting now 😂 I love HOO but man is it confusing.

Percy Earned his leadership
Okay, the thing is I get almost personally offended when the fandom tries to write off Percy’s leadership because that boy earned the right to be CHB’s leader.
First off, the way that RR wrote the first five books was in a way where when you combine them together, you can track one cohesive story the same way you’d do with a single story.
TLT is Act 1. It establishes the setting, the characters, and the story. While there aren’t a lot of leadership moments for Percy, because it’s the first act Percy has a lot of moments where you can see his various skills that will lead him to becoming a good leader coming through. This includes his ability to think on his feet (how he dealt with the love ride), manipulate (Crusty), and make the necessary calls needed for the good of the world (sacrificing Sally to return to the surface and stop the war).
There isn’t a lot that happens in this book that happens that changes Percy’s internally and turns him into more of a leader. Aside from the decision to leave his mom behind, every moment of ‘leadership’ that he has are small, baby step versions of leadership. This book is mainly just getting Percy accustomed to being in the situations where a leader is needed while not necessarily pushing him into a leadership position (while Percy was technically the leader of the quest he relied heavily on Grover, Annabeth, and Chiron since he was so new to the world).
SoM is Act 2. Since we know who Percy is and we don’t need to be coaxed into loving him like the first book, this book is the one where Percy probably receives the most help. This is also the ‘training montage’ portion of the story and likely the reason that the Sea of Monsters was chosen as the setting.
There are a few moments in the book where Percy takes the necessary steps to become a leader but most notably are.
Making the decision to send Clarisse on ahead.
Stepping up and confronting Luke on behalf of all four of them.
The beginning of the book where the campers poorly treat him and Tyson is also important for two reasons. The first being that Percy sticking by Tyson despite the poor treatment shows what a good person he is, even though we know he’s resentful of the situation and Tyson. The second is that part of the reason Percy is so resentful is because the last time he was at camp he was Hot Shit. Everyone thought he was the bees knees because he had completed a quest and prevented a war. By having Percy be ostracized for his association with a “monster” Rick not only prevented Percy from developing an ego but it also teaches him something all leaders need to know - which is that public opinion is extremely fickle.
This is also the book where we first hear that Percy is an ‘unreliable weapon’. Kronos specifically does not want Percy to be the prophecy child because he knows that Percy is difficult to predict, manipulate, and control. The gods themselves would be way less scared about how powerful Percy is if he was easier to control. By Percy being difficult to manipulate, that means he’s not going to wind up pulling all the people he’s leading in the wrong direction because someone else is pulling his strings.
TTC is Act 3 and the mid-story low-point. This is the book where Percy fucks up the most.
He lets his jealousy of Thalia cloud his judgement, which directly leads to Annabeth getting captured.
He again lets his jealousy and pride cloud his judgement which causes the campers to lose to the Hunters.
A tiny moment but he’s so upset over Annabeth possibly becoming a hunter that he nearly kills an Ares camper with a javelin.
He’s so pissed at Mr. D he almost lets his anger prevent them from getting help, which would have led to all of them dying.
All of Percy’s fuck ups teach him that he needs to not let his emotions cloud his judgement and clearly see in BotL and TLO that Percy has learned his lesson. Even when his parents are in danger or he has his own personal drama with Annabeth and Rachel, he’s able to focus on the task at hand.
(The one time that Percy lets his emotions take control is when he takes off in the Labyrinth alone because he thinks Nico is nearby and he’s extremely worried about Nico because he cares a lot about him despite what Rick and his ghost writers say).
They also serve as a humbling experience to keep his ego in check, because at the beginning of the book we’re told that Percy had become accustomed to campers looking to him and up to him after having completed two dangerous quests. His issue with Thalia is that he feels she gets all the attention because Zeus is her father (whether that’s a justified feeling or not). This shows us that not only does Percy have some sort of expectation of leadership but also that as someone who spent his whole life either in the corner or in bad light, he has enjoyed being in the spotlight even if only a little bit, and now he’s missing it.
This is also the book where Percy accepts the prophecy and basically puts himself in a leadership position for the sake of protecting Nico. However, for me, this isn’t the most meaningful leadership moment.
Percy’s big leadership moment in this book for me is when he takes the sky from Artemis and this is the big moment for many reasons.
For one, it shows that he has learned from his past mistakes of wanting to be the one to turn to. He acknowledges he’s not going to defeat Atlas and takes himself out of the fight so Artemis can fight instead. This is a great juxtaposition to the beginning of the story when he wanted to be on the front lines during capture the flag and have Thalia instead guard the flag (even though Thalia was right about the river).
For two, it shows his ability to make sacrifices because he knows very well that he can die.
And for three, it is his idea, his decision, and he has to convince Artemis it’s also a good idea.
BotL is Act IV, the rising action. The stakes are higher, the situation is more dangerous than ever, and our protagonist is digging himself out from under his mistakes of the previous act.
This is the book that while Percy has learned most of what he needs to in order to become a leader and has even chosen a leadership role, he’s not the one in charge. Annabeth is.
This book is literally Percy being Annabeth’s second-in-command because before you can lead, you need to learn how to follow. This is important to happen here because in the previous three books Percy either didn’t want to be a leader and/or he was fucking it up and had a lot to learn.
This is the book that shows us two things: 1) Percy's ability to sacrifice his personal wants and desires for the greater good and 2) why he is the best option to lead.
He does #1 first at Mt. St. Helens when he sends Annabeth away, because in the situation she’s the one that needs to get back for the greater good. Then the second time was when he sacrificed a peaceful eternity with Calypso for the greater good (not Annabeth, which the fandom, Rick, and his ghost writers seem to have forgotten).
Everyone is going to hate me for what I’m about to say next but bear with me. The BotL is showing us why Annabeth, the daughter of war and battle strategy, is not going to be the leader of their army in the series climax. To be clear, Annabeth is not a bad leader, in fact she is a good one, my point for the next bit here is why she’s not the best option. Throughout the book we see Annabeth repeatedly making the same mistakes that Percy made in the previous book; she lets her emotions get the better of her and cloud her judgement.
The Sphynx moment is her letting her pride overtake her better judgement and she puts everyone at risk by refusing to answer the questions over an insult to her intelligence.
Absolutely everything with Rachel is an issue. From the first moment Annabeth sees Rachel and Percy together she is jealous and she treats Rachel terribly. First off, this is poor behaviour in general (and it should have been addressed in series and apologized for) but as a leader it’s poor for a few reasons.
Firstly, that as a leader she needs to know how to put her emotions aside in order to work with everyone, regardless of her personal feelings towards them. By not being able to be at least polite to Rachel, she risked Rachel saying fuck this, I’m out (probably the only reason Rachel didn’t is because she’s chill and she knew it was a world ending problem they were dealing with).
Secondly, it shows a certain amount of immaturity. The thing with jealousy is that although it’s not a reasonable emotion, how you handle it shows how mature you are. The fact that when Annabeth becomes petty and vindictive when she’s jealous shows a lot of emotional immaturity.
Thirdly, she doesn’t fucking learn anything as we see her behaving the same way towards Rachel in TLO, made worse by the fact that she’s also attacking Percy. This isn’t entirely her fault because these actions don’t have any consequences that make her want to change her behaviour. Leaders need to be able to learn and adapt and check their own behaviour.
(honestly, the fact that Annabeth ended the series without at least trying to get over her pride and abandonment issues makes me feel like her character arc is incomplete).
TLO is Act V and the grand finale. It’s the book where Percy is 100% the Boss. It is the culmination of everything that he’s learned and shows off all the things he has that makes him a good leader.
Leaders need to know when to make sacrifices, evident by when he leaves Beckendorf and when he takes a million-to-one chance by dipping in the Styx in order to gain a chance at winning this war.
He’s cunning and manipulative, shown when he bribes the river gods into playing for his team.
He’s incredibly good at battle strategy, shown when he manages to make a plan that allows 70ish campers/hunters to defend the entire island of Manhattan from hundreds, if not thousands of soldiers from Kronos’s army.
He’s well spoken, shown when he’s able to get the campers pumped before the first battle.
He cares about the people that he’s leading. In the previous book he didn’t know Castor’s name before he died and he felt bad about that, so in this book every time he mentions a demigod it’s by name.
He’s clever, shown when he’s able to figure out literally on the fly how to kill the pig and that the hero that dies in the prophecy is Luke. He also figures out that Typhon won’t be defeated without Poseidon and knows what to say in order to get Poseidon to abandon the ocean battle and help the rest of the gods.
(Lowkey-highkey Percy is the reason that Typhon was defeated at all, because without him Poseidon would have never joined the fight and the gods would have failed, which would have meant that regardless of Kronos dying they would have been fucked)
He’s able to focus on the task at hand despite his emotional problems. This includes the times that his parents are put in the line of fire, both when they’re asleep and awake and when the Annabeth/Rachel drama is making him all kinds of angry and upset. In all those situations he’s able to carry on and largely ignore them in order to focus on the war.
To me, his deference to Chiron before the war officially begins is Percy a) being so used to following Chiron in everything and respecting the centaur as a leader and b) not entirely confident in himself and needing that confirmation that he’s in charge. While it’s never stated in the books that Percy enjoys being a leader, we never really see Percy lamenting that he wishes someone else was in charge even when he was neck deep in danger and death and stress.
No one ever questions the fact that Percy’s in charge. There isn’t ever a power struggle. Even with Thalia and Annabeth - both of whom have their own merits to make them leaders and the ambition/pride to make them chafe under the leadership of someone else. Everyone easily accepts and looks to Percy to be their leader.
I’m sorry if this comes off as rant-y and I’m likely going to piss a bunch of people off with my opinion on Annabeth’s faults, but Percy literally went through so much shit and learned and changed in order to be a good leader that it honestly makes me angry when people write him off for the sake of uplifting someone else.

v curious abt y’alls pjo/atla au? tell me abt who bends what and who is a non-bender? any particular plot changes to fit the pjo narrative better? i must know 🥺
benders:
percy - waterbender (duh)
frank - earthbender
jason - firebender (lightningbender)
thalia - lightningbender
leo - firebender (duh)
hazel - earthbender
luke - airbender
so annabeth, piper, leo, reyna, nico, bianca & grover are all nonbenders!!
the plot is nothing at all like atla--
kronos is the avatar and he’s originally from the air nomads. he wants to take over the four nations and he decides to do so by causing war between the nations and then swooping in to end the war and take over everything. he starts the war by sending one of his airbending students, luke, to steal an important fire nation artifact and pin the blame on the water tribes, which would start a war between those two nations. his plan to get the earth kingdom involved is something else, but anyway--after framing the water tribe, luke plants the artifact on annabeth, who loses her bag and it gets found by leo, who doesn’t realize what it is and sells it, and hazel ends up with it--but the whole plot is basically percy trying to save the water tribes on one end of the world and jason trying to find the artifact before his father (the fire lord) can start a war on the other end.

Hello. Patrochilles' love child Percy anon here. I LOVED your headcanons when Percy finds out his mom is Sally! They're so sweet. Can you write some about the final battle with Cronos? How do you think Percy getting the Curse of Achilles would go? How would Patrochilles be involved in the battle? Thank you so much again for all you've written so far. And again, no pressure to write this. Lots of love!
HELLO & THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! i appreciate you requesting this stuff bc it’s so fun to write and i’m beyond happy that you enjoy them AHH i love you! and sure lemme think of something! :’) - i’m so sorry for how late i’m doing this - i couldn’t think of anything for SO long so i’m just gonna do this now! (this will suck SO much just letting you know in advance omfg so sorry legend)
- i think percy has carried the weight of the prophecy for so long again, he’s spoken to achilles about this with iris messages bc he knows how it is being a demigod w a weighty prophecy on your mind & how it affects not only you, but others - achilles & pat always contact percy when he’s out on quests just to make sure he’s okay and safe
- it isn’t until they’re nearing the war w kronos that things get even MORE heavy and dark. (they don’t know how that’s possible) achilles & patroclus go to chb to talk w chiron about everything and get advice and they see nico there - a son of hades and achilles goes to him to speak about everything
- nico shadow travels & takes both achilles & patroclus down into the underworld - they pass hades and achilles & patroclus have their eyes focused and are in protective dad battle mode - they’ve known for a while about the nightmares percy has had and it isn’t until nico tells them what percy has to do that they stop in their tracks - he has to do what has been done to achilles - bathe in the river styx
- and achilles is horrified and so is patroclus so they run towards the styx and they see percy and he’s so tired and he’s terrified and he sees his dads and he knows what he has to do and they run over and hug him and they try and ask nico if there’s any other way to go through w this and there isn’t.
- they ask for a moment alone and achilles closes his eyes and puts his hand on perseus’ head, the same way chiron did for him. he puts his blessing upon perseus, aristos achaion- best of the greeks, named now for his son perseus. patroclus puts his blessings upon his son too and perseus opens his eyes and has tears flowing down his cheeks and achilles tells him what he has to do - mirror both his worlds together (that of a mortal - patroclus side & that of a god - achilles’ side) and perseus is the mesh between them both. he dips himself into the styx and every memory comes crawling back to him - smiling and laughing with his friends, all the fun outings w his dads, and perseus focuses on the small of his back where his friends and his dad always put their hands on in a sense of comfort
- he steps at the ledge with his hand out and patrochilles take him. he’s now invulnerable and there’s a godly glow to him - strong & powerful. the new aristos achaion
- during the battle, perseus & achilles are clearly the most lethal, patroclus and the campers are fighting alongside them - fighting w a vigor and both are taking turns hiding percy’s weakspot
- achilles is dangerous and lethal and perseus is in complete shock bc yes he’s seen achilles fight but he hasn’t seen achilles FIGHT - with his whole entire being and decimating monsters - he has a wild look in his eyes that mimics perseus when he fights (that’s something both rachel & pat noticed) and you can barely see the spear whiz by as achilles throws it and perseus swordsmanship is second to none - his usage of water in battle is frightening and powerful and he’s a force to be reckoned with
- patrochilles promised themselves that their goal is to save perseus and he’s their number 1 priority - they save a few demigods along the way and they see kronos the bastard and see that he’s taken the form of luke and while they go and try to stop them - percy stops patrochilles letting them know that this is HIS prophecy and they’ve taken care of him long enough and he has to fight now
- achilles & patroclus yell saying they won’t leave percy but he knows he HAS to do this himself. he tells them to keep fighting while he goes take care of what needs to be done and patrochilles both know that he needs to do what he needs to do, they give him the biggest bone crushing hug and kiss and let their baby boy save the world
- it’s the aftermath and what’s done has been done. kronos has been defeated, nico, hades, & fellow campers are holding vigils for the lost demigods, people are hugging and crying and patrochilles find perseus in the aftermath and cry in his arms and are so happy to see he’s safe and well and they hug all of his friends and go into soft sappy dad mode :’) they’re proud of their boy - he turned down immortality and just wants to live a simple life and his one eternal wish is that the gods claimed their kids and patrochilles are so PROUD of him. his goodness is innate
- and in the sidelines is sally and... poseidon??? percy sees his dad and gives him a warm smile and poseidon gives him a wink and comes over and gives achilles & patroclus his thanks and sally hugs both of them and kisses percy on the cheek and holds him so tight
- the following weeks are a weird blur - they all help out at camp and eventually they all go home and patrochilles are holding percy in their arms and he still has the blessing/curse of achilles and they just try to live a domestic life together and as per usual, they go on a long midnight drive and stop by the ocean and overlook it while talking about life, love, the weird and dangerous life of being a demigod and again, pat & achilles always want perseus to know that they’re there for him and they love him. percy is quiet for a while and says he loves them and wants them to know he’s there for them to. the adoration and genuineness is palpable and they all say i love you & hug :’)
sorry this one SUCKS! i’m not v happy w how it is but hehe i didn’t wanna keep you waiting so long! i hope you somewhat enjoy and i love you for sending in HC’s lemme know if you want me to do more! :’) love you sm

furys-burn asked:
"are you expecting me to beg for my life now?" (YOU KNOW THE AU)
Lost Meme -- @furys-burn
Emotionless golden eyes studied the son of Hermes for a moment, somehow looking down at the taller demigod. Although the golden eyes looked out of Nico’s face, much of what made the demigod himself was gone. He stood with a different bearing than the Nico of before, the small, scared child of the Underworld. A faint glow radiated off of his body, casting a sterile light around them.
“Beg? No, I simply provide you the chance to say a final few words, Luke.” Stepping forward, a pale hand reached out to still the blade in the other’s hand, stopping it with a touch without the sharp edge even cutting his skin. Intent eyes study the other’s face, a full range of emotions and yet none at all dance across the still face. “Your life is already forfeit.”

chapter forty-one—king of the gods
read Child of Land and Sea here
Act V — Walking On Water
Part IV — I hope you're satisfied, but if you ain't, don't blame me. You can blame my friends on the other side...
Tumblr media
They emerged in Central Park just north of the Pond. Nico looked pretty tired as he limped over to a cluster of boulders. "The Underworld has two major entrances," he told Andy. "You know the one in L.A."
"Charon's ferry."
Nico nodded. "Most souls go that way, but there's a smaller path, harder to find. The Door of Orpheus."
"The dude with the harp?"
"The dude with the lyre," Nico corrected with a grin. "But yeah, him. He used his music to charm the earth and open a new path into the Underworld. He sang his way right into Hades's palace and almost got away with his wife's soul."
"I remember," she said; Anthony liked telling her about Greek myths. "He wasn't supposed to look behind him when he was leading her back to the world, but of course he did. And so they died. The end."
"Pretty much."
"So this is the Door of Orpheus?" Andy tried to sound impressed but she wasn't really. "How does it open?"
"We need music," Nico said. "How's your singing?"
"Um, no. Can't you just, like, tell it to open? You're the son of Hades and all."
"It's not that easy. We need music. Now sing. I'm pretty sure you can carry some notes."
"Why would you think that?"
"Child of the sea and everything," he shrugged. "Mermaids. Sirens. Naiads. The sound of waves. All music."
"I'm fairly sure if I try to sing, all I will cause is an avalanche," Andy told him. "I have a better idea." She turned and shouted, "GROVER!" Her empathy link was tingling for the first time in months. Grover! she thought more insistently.
"Hmm-hmmmm," something said. An image came into her head. She saw him sleeping above a tree.
"Wake up," she told him.
His eyes shot open.
"What?" Nico asked.
"I got through," she said out loud. "He's... yeah. He's on his way."
A minute later, the tree next to them shivered and Grover fell out of the branches. "Blah-haa-haa!" he bleated.
"Are you okay?"
"Oh, I'm fine," he got up. His horns had grown so much they poked an inch above his curly hair. "I was at the other end of the park. The dryads had this great idea of passing me through the trees to get me here. They don't understand height very well."
"You remember Nico?" Andy said. Grover nodded at Nico then gave Andy a big goat hug.
"I missed you," he told her. "I miss camp."
"I was worried," she said. "Where have you been the last two months?"
"The last two-" Grover's smile faded. "The last two months?! What are you talking about?"
"We haven't heard from you. Juniper's worried."
"Hold on. What month is this?"
"August."
The color drained from his face. "That's impossible! It's June. I just lay down to take a nap and..." he grabbed Andy's arms. "I remember now! He knocked me out. Andy, we have to stop him!"
"Whoa, stop who? Tell me what happened."
Grover took a deep breath. "I was... I was walking in the woods up by Harlem Meer. And I felt this tremble in the ground, like something powerful was near."
"You can sense stuff like that?" Nico asked.
Grover nodded. "Since Pan's death, I can feel when something is wrong in nature. It's like my ears and eyes are sharper when I'm in the Wild. Anyway, I started following the scent. This man in a long black coat was walking through the park, and I noticed he didn't cast a shadow. Middle of a sunny day, and he cast no shadow. He kind of shimmered as he moved."
"Like a mirage?" Nico asked.
"Yes," Grover said. "And whenever he passed humans-"
"The humans would pass out," Nico finished. "Curl up and go to sleep."
"That's right! I followed the guy. He kept looking up at the buildings around the park like he was making estimates or something. I followed him into this grove, to the base of a big elm tree. I was about to summon some dryads to help me capture him when he turned and..." Grover swallowed. "Andy, his face. I couldn't make out his face because it kept shifting. Just looking at him made me sleepy. I asked what he was doing and he said he was having a look around. He said you should always scout a battlefield before the battle. And then... then I had to sleep a little."
Nico exhaled. "You met Morpheus, the god of Dreams. You're lucky you ever woke up."
"Two months," Grover moaned. "He put me to sleep for two months."
"We need to figure out what he was doing here," Andy said.
"He's working for Kronos," Nico said. "We know that already. A lot of the minor gods are. This just proves there's going to be an invasion. We need to get on with our plan, Jackson."
And he was back with the last name thing.
"What plan?" Grover asked. They told him and he started tugging at his leg fur. "You can't be serious. You cannot be serious! Not the Underworld again!"
"You don't need to come," Andy assured him. "We just need you to open the door. With music."
"Are you sure you want to do this, Andy?"
She avoided his eyes. "Please, Grover. Just open the door."
Grover whimpered but took out his reed pipes. He played a shrill, lively tune. The boulders trembled until they cracked open, revealing a triangular crevice. Andy peered inside. Steps led down into the darkness. She looked back at Grover. "Thanks, man.."
"I've got to rally the nature spirits if Kronos is going to invade. Maybe we can help. I'll see if we can find this Morpheus."
"Better tell Juniper you're okay first."
Grover's eyes widened. "Juniper! Oh, she is going to kill me!" He gave Andy another hug. "Come back alive." And he ran off.
"Ready?" Nico asked her. "It'll be fine. Don't worry. I'll keep you safe down there."
Andy liked the promise, but Nico sounded like he was trying to convince himself. She glanced at the stars, wondering if she would ever see them again. Then they plunged into darkness.
They emerged at the base of a cliff, on a plain of black volcanic sand. To their right, the River Styx. To their left, far away, fires burned on Erebos.
Andy shuddered and wished Anthony was there to hold her hand. Nico looked pale and worried himself. Not very heartening. "How do we do this?"
"We have to get inside the gates first," he said.
"But the river's right here."
"I have to get something," he told her. "It's the only way." He marched off without waiting.
Andy frowned. Nico hadn't mentioned anything about going inside the gates. Reluctantly, she followed him. Cerberus let them pass. Andy assumed it was because Nico was the boss's son.
Ignoring the lines of ghosts, they slipped through the security ghouls and into the Fields of Asphodel. They hiked over black fields of grass; Nico trudged ahead, bringing them closer and closer to the palace of Hades.
"Hey," she called him, "we're inside the gates. Where exactly are we-" A shadow appeared overhead. Andy recognized her immediately. "Mrs Dodds."
The Fury bared her fangs. "Welcome back, honey." Her two sisters swooped down and settled next to her.
"You know Alecto?" Nico asked Andy.
"If you mean the hag in the middle, yeah. She was my math teacher."
Nico almost smiled before turning to the Furies. "I've done what my father asked. Take us to the palace."
Andy tensed. "Wait. Nico, what do you-"
"My father wants to see you," he said without looking at her. "I'm sorry. He promised me information about my family."
"You tricked me?" Andy gave him a shove, but the Furies were fast. Two of them swooped down and plucked her up by the arms.
"He just wants to talk," Nico said apologetically.
Andy didn't say anything as the Furies flied her into the palace. Alecto dropped her like a sack of turnips at the feet of Hades. Persephone and Demeter were also there. They seemed to be having an argument.
"Andy Jackson," Hades said with satisfaction. "At last."
"Hmmph," Demeter said. "Demigods. Just what we need."
Nico appeared at Andy's side and knelt. "Father, I have done as you asked."
"Took you long enough," Hades grumbled. "Your sister would've done a better job."
Nico lowered his head.
"What do you want, Hades?" Andy asked.
"To talk, of course. Assuming you can talk. Last time you were here, all you did was shout."
"So this whole thing was a lie? Nico brought me down here to be killed. Awesome."
"Oh, no," Hades said. "I'm afraid my son was quite sincere about wanting to help you. The boy is as honest as he is dense. I simply convinced him to take a small detour and bring you here first."
"Father," Nico said, "you promised that she would not be harmed. You said you'd tell me about my mother."
Persephone sighed dramatically. "Can we please not talk about that woman?"
"I had to promise the boy something," Hades shrugged.
"I warned you, daughter," Demeter said. "This scoundrel is no good! You could've married the god of doctors or the god of lawyers, but nooo! You had to eat the pomegranate."
"Mother-"
"And get stuck here forever."
"Mother, please-"
"Enough, Demeter," Hades said. "You are a guest in my house."
"And what a house it is. This dump. It's August! We're supposed to be up there-"
"I told you," Hades said, grinding his teeth, "there's a war in the world above. You and Persephone are better off here with me."
"Excuse me," Andy broke in, "but if you're going to kill me, I would prefer you did it before forcing me to listen to this squabble."
All three gods looked at her.
"She has a bad attitude," Demeter said.
"Indeed," Hades agreed. "I would love to kill her."
"Get in line," Andy muttered.
"Husband, we talked about this," Persephone chided. "You can't go around incinerating every hero. Besides, she's brave and pretty. Much like myself. I quite like her."
Hades rolled his eyes. "You liked that Orpheus fellow, too. Look how well that turned out. Let me kill her, just a little bit."
"Father, you promised," Nico said. "You said you only wanted to speak to her. You said you'd explain."
"And so I shall," Hades glowered. "Your mother – what can I tell you? She was a wonderful woman." He glanced uncomfortably at Persephone. "Forgive me, my love. I meant for a mortal, of course. Maria di Angelo. She was from Venice, but her father was a diplomat in Washington, D.C. That's where I met her. When you and your sister were young, it was a bad time to be children of Hades. World War II was brewing. A few of my, ah, other children were leading the losing side. I thought it best to put you two out of harm's way."
"That's why you hid us in the Lotus Casino?"
Hades shrugged. "You didn't age. You didn't realize time was passing. I waited for the right time to bring you out."
"But what happened to our mother? Why don't I remember her?"
"Not important," Hades snapped.
"Not important? Of course it's important! It's the most important thing!"
Hades crossed his arms. "As for the lawyer who got you out," he nodded toward Alecto.
"I do lawyers and teachers very well," the Fury growled.
Nico was trembling. "Why did you free us from the Casino?"
"You know why," Hades said. "This ridiculous siren cannot be allowed to be the child of the prophecy!"
"You should be helping Olympus!" Andy told him. "All the other gods are fighting and you're just sitting here-"
"Waiting things out," Hades finished. "Yes, that's correct. When's the last time Olympus ever helped me, half-blood? When's the last time a child of mine was ever welcome as a hero? Bah! Why should I rush out and help them? I'll stay here with my forces intact."
"And when Kronos comes for you?"
"Let him try. He'll be weakened. And my son here," Hades looked at Nico with distaste. "Well, he's not much now, I'll grant you. It would've been better if Bianca had lived. But give my boy another year. He'll be eighteen and he will make the decision that will save the world. And I will be king of the gods."
"You're insane," Andy said. "Kronos will crush you."
Hades pursed his lips. "You'll be waiting out this war, child of land and sea, in my dungeons."
"No!" Nico said. "Father, that wasn't our agreement. And you haven't told me everything."
"I've told you all you need to know, boy. As for our agreement, I spoke with Jackson. I did not harm her, though I wanted to. Bad. You got your information. If you had wanted a better deal, you should've made me swear on the Styx. Now, go to your room," Hades waved his hand and Nico disappeared.
"That boy needs to eat more," Demeter grumbled. "He's too skinny."
"My lord Hades," Persephone said, "are you sure we can't let her go? She's awfully brave."
"No, my love. I've spared her life. That's enough."
Persephone shrugged indifferently. "Fine. What's for breakfast? I'm starving." She took her mother's arm and they disappeared in a swirl of flowers and wheat.
"Don't feel bad, Andy Jackson," Hades said. "My ghosts keep me well informed of Kronos's plans. I can assure you that you had no chance to stop him in time. By tonight, it'll be too late for your precious Mount Olympus. The trap will be sprung."
"What trap?" she demanded. "If you know about it, do something! At least warn the other gods!"
Hades smiled. "You are spirited. I'll give you credit for that. Have fun in my dungeon. We'll check on you again in – oh, fifty or sixty years."
