I've debated multiple times doing something like cataloging racist microaggressions I see in the danmei tags and making a post about it. I generally see at least one a day, and I block the worst offenders. But in the end I'm a white USAdian and it's really not my place. I'm sure I don't even catch them all.

It's a real issue and I've seen a lot of anecdotal evidence that it drives Chinese and Chinese diaspora fans out of participating in Westernized Tumblr danmei fandom, and that's utterly unacceptable.

One of the most common ones I see is how people talk about the character names. For example:

The person who posted the above, when I said it was a microaggression, demanded to know how. So, for them and everyone else in this fucking fandoms, I present what any of them could have learned by googling the term. The definition of microaggression:

I've been holding this post in for like a year, but the person who posted that screen cap, who doubled-down by posting a non-apology to all the MXTX main tags, and who acted like I'd said something insane when I told them it was a microaggression...they're apparently my last fucking straw.

Matty, ATVB, Simulacra and Simulation

responding to a question that someone asked ( which @abiiors has been kind enough to pass on to me). Here’s a brief explanation that I hope makes some kind of sense. ( please easy on my friends yall. Their blogs aren’t means of contacting me🩷)

it’s all very ✨meta✨ and ✨postmodern✨ I’m not really joking this is the kind of philosophy that Matty is referencing when he calls things “postmodern” or “meta.” So, strap in. Grab a snack or a drink or a joint.

ANYWAYS!

The relationship between art/ media, and “reality” has been a hot issue of contention for philosophy going alllllll the way back to Ancient Greece where Plato argued that artists are “liars” who “copy” reality and try to pass it off as real. 

This obviously brings up questions regarding imitation, invention, recording, copying, representation, transcribing, etc etc etc. 

the book that Matty is referencing Simulacra and Simulation takes up these issues in the context of our current society (postmodernist, late stage capitalist society). 

The book argues that we have become sooo obsessed with media that we have replaced “real life” with it. We treat images, recordings, video, memes, etc as real as the things that they are based on (real life). 

In this way, what we know now as reality is actually a simulation of reality. 

According to the book, this did not happen overnight. It’s something that we moved towards over centuries. The real move likely started in the 1600s and it took until the 20th century to get us to the point where we are now. 

“Simulacra” is all the excessive media that we have used to replace the real world. Signs, symbols, ads, billboards, video, sound bites, etc. 

simulacra are NOT “pretending” to be real or “hiding” the truth. They have simply BECOME THE TRUTH because we treat them as true.

The book refers to this phenomenon as “hyper reality.” Like more real than the real. The thing that we started off simply recording or copying (“real life”) has turned into “less real” than thecopy of it (the video, picture, movie, insta post, etc).

The book makes a dramatic analogy of this by telling a hypothetical scenario where someone decided to make a map of a giant empire that is soooo detailed and accurate that it becomes as large as the empire itself. So people start to treated as if it ISSSS the empire. Not a map of it. 

Fun fuckin fact: this book came out in the 80s lmao. So before social media. Imagine how wild it would be today?

Why is Matty referencing this book? 

Well, let’s take a look at his Instagram posts (pause for a moment to consider the irony that he’s posting an Instagram story of a book about how everything is basically an Instagram story of reality. Peak Matty Healy? I think so. )

The first quote that he posted is

 Simulating is not pretending: "Whoever fakes an illness can simply stay in bed and make everyone believe he is ill. Whoever simulates an illness produces in himself some of the symptoms.”

As I said above, simulation is not meant to “trick you” its not covering something real underneath. It IS the thing now. It’s acquired the status of being real. So, if someone goes so far as to act sick, stay in bed, make themselves sneeze, cough, stay up all night so that their eyes are red and they haven’t slept and they’re super tired, they might as well BE SICK. in fact now they AREEEE SICK they’re not pretending. 

2. The second quote is 

Therefore, pretending...leaves the principle of reality intact: the difference is always clear, it is simply masked, whereas simulation threatens the difference between the "true" and the “false,the real" and the imaginary 

“Pretending” would be considered lying. Like there is a truth distinct from what you are portraying and you seek to hide the truth by portraying it differently. “Simulation” however doesn’t leave any difference between what’s true and what you show publicly, the two collapse into one another. 

What does this have to do with ATVB?

Well, Matty is taking us back to “If it’s method acting but what you’re acting is actually your real life then what’s acting and what’s real?” Right?

There are, of course, other ways to extend this conundrum in light of 2023. That is, what’s rhetorical difference between “Truman Black” and “Matty Healy”? What’s the difference between the public perception of Matty Healy and the “real” Matty Healy? (Is there even such a thing?) If he commits to a joke or a bit AI HARD is the “bit” even a bit anymore? If not, does it lose its effectiveness? Cuz obviously people do acts  BECAUSE they’re acts. They’re not reality. Except we now live in a world where all “acts” can and are indeed real. 

Furthermore: is there a difference between the first and the second halves of the show? During SATVB NA the answer was no most of the time. Because they blended the setlist. BFIAFL and greatest hits were no longer clearly separated. They played bits of both at the same time. 

If all of this is true, what then does it even mean to be “sincere” or “earnest” in a world where everything has an equal degree of reality all the time?

the thing about special forces,, jungkook could have applied for it. just not until he has finished training, because of his tattoos. special forces don't accept visible tattoos only during training, but you could apply for it after. so jk needed to enlist alone to be able to do so, because another rule is companion soldiers don't qualify for special forces. so if jungkook really wanted to enter special forces he could've enlisted alone (even if it's temporarily at the same division jin and jimin are at, or the one taejoon are at) then after his training is over he could've applied for special forces and got accepted in whatever special forces unit fit his abilities best (could've been with taehyung or somewhere else). but he threw that possibility away by doing the buddy system with jimin, cause now they're bound together wherever unit they get assigned to after their training is over and it can't be special forces. so no matter how yall explain it, what jungkook did was a choice he knew the consequences of and what he would be giving up on and yet he still chose to do it. not to mention how the 5th division buddy system applications ended in august, so jikook would've had to have taken that decision and went through the process monthsss ago before sending in their application in august and hoping for the best (since the 'winners' get chosen by a lottery system). so they went through all that trouble just to ensure that they will enlist together at the same division and unit. and they did that during the same months yall were saying they weren't close anymore and weren't seeing each other anymore. just goes to show how stupid yall sound when you act like you know what goes on behind the scenes based on the very little snippets of their lives that you get to see.

just saw one of the blogs that do "headmate requests" and i feel very... dissociated about it. like sure, whatever if you want to create headmates based off of what other people request, that's fair, i literally can't stop you, but like... it feels weird

both in the way of "it's weird to want to be plural in a way where you let others request headmates" sense (because headmates are only for you and your body and most sys spaces that encourage headmate creation still insist on making sure you are ready for it and not creating headmates willy-nilly)...

but also in the sense of "the headmates are going to be neglected, and it's weird to create a being that is real, even in your mind, because someone else requested them to be there, and to commodify them like they are objects, and not a sentient, conscious part of your brain".

like... why can't yall just make OCs at that point. request for drawings of original characters or like... make a character who has a LOT of alters and have the requests be connected to the story you're writing, or something. not just.... creating new alters/headmates. it's... rude? kinda?

it is rare but its surreal when i see it. and i do not want to fakeclaim them and say that they are faking, but lowkey, i HOPE they are faking, and that they aren't making thoughtform alters just because other people request it. bc if they're legitimately making new headmates, then those headmates would probably be upset to learn why they were formed.

I always think there should be more oc fic and Fan art. I like seeing people explore sw with their own ocs. It’s very sweet and I hate whoever decided ocs were cringy. Ocs are cool and fun and deserve more love.

I would also love more fluffy boba content. I know ship fics and/or x reader stuff is not everyone’s cup of tea. However one look at my blog tells you I do personally really enjoy it, but I have found that so much of the ship fics and x Reader fics for boba is very nsfw based. Which i don’t think is terrible, I don’t hate nsfw content and I’m not here to say I think there shouldnt be any of it, but my man deserves more fluffy times :(.

Sooo rambling here cause while it is tmnt related it doesnt exactly fit on my au blog. Its mostly musings and questions.

Firstly thinking about the turtles love languages and what they might be...partly inspired by seeing someone post about their aus version of donnies love language(s) and it got me thinking about it.

Moat versions of donnie seem to have gift giving/an act of service as their love language. I think we see this most, of the animated turtles specifically, with 2003 and Rise Donnie, correct me if im wrong, but the other Donnies still do this very often.

The mikeys seem to have physical touch as theit love language which is why they often are initating contact with their brothers. Its also why usually if the mikeys are huggers their usually the first to hug their brothers.

Unfortuantly I cant exactly pin point the leos and raphs , at least not well,because well admidedly I have a harder time getting into their heads. I have a little bit of what the leos might be but im not

I think some of the leos also have an act of sevice as their love language but not all of them? But I feel they have another love langauage as well.

If I have to take a shot in the dark for the raphs uhh I think it depends but a couple of raphs seem like words of afformation? Please note this is not a stable guess and what yall think about this all!

The next bits kinda pertain to rise specifically namely the ninpo. So it was floating around that apparently the writers intended for the ninpo/mystics the boys have to get stronger/more varried as time went on/they got older and im curious what people think those abilities might be. I have my own ideas and ill share what they are and why but they might be...underwhelming.

Healing ngl I am a fan of medic leo, how ever I belive medic leo is more likely to happen after the events of the movie as before hand they seemed to heal fairly fast and may have not had majorly needed a medic nessisarly.

Water manipulation this is a bit...indulgent, my sister who I roll play with a lot and I have always associated the leos with the element of water soo....

Tecnomancy- obviously donnies ninpo/mystics connect more with his liking of science and technology and his creativity. Being able to simply mentally connecr with and control technology would certainly be a step in the right direction I think. This would actually be the broad term to use and some other abilities I thought of certainnly fall under it.

Data collection- more or less he touches something technology based and any information it has kinda gets for lack of a better word "downloaded" into his brain.

Manipulation of tech- kinda taking already exsiting tech and uaing his ninpo to turn it into something else.

"all lesbian rep is always femme" it's not, actually. i literally never look on the screen and see femmes. we get hallmark channel blondes who look exactly like every other straight woman on tv. actual femmes are so beyond what's considered acceptable or normal for lesbians - in fact characters i would call femme are usually very pointedly straight and usually shamed/demonized, with their appearance a pointed commentary on why they're bad people, from slutshaming to the selfish material girl trope, unless it treads into the "weird" category for straight people, in which case they're always oddball lonely cat ladies nobody likes.

but even then, the distinct things that i recognize in femmes (queercoding, if you will,) are always absent, because they are deviations from the male gaze. femininity is expected to be a performance for the male gaze, femininity embraced by lesbians is literally the opposite. guess what we see on tv?

and i don't say this to be like "ooh femmephobia is real!" rather, my point is that media just hates lesbians. and i dislike when people say "all we see for lesbian rep is femmes," because we don't see femmes, we see feminine people playing a lesbian based on a straight interpretation of what femme and the female gaze is. they literally don't understand it. there is no gender nonconformity, no actual femme coding on any of these characters; what you mean by "femme" is they wear makeup and maybe high heels.

media hates lesbians. butch rep is utterly abysmal, and I'm begging y'all to reframe how you look at what rep we do have, because continuing to call what they give us "femme" is a disservice to lesbians. straight people do not understand that there are different ways to be a woman or perform femininity, so all we get for lesbian rep are straight women and straight interpretations of lesbians, not femmes. please don't disrespect lesbians by acting like any of what we get qualifies as rep for butches and femmes, because it doesn't, and it won't without direct queer involvement because straight people are incapable of understanding what we are or even look like.

I'll never forgive tumblr for being so quick to shit on the concept of "queer platonic" relationships bc even outside of asexual/aromantic relationships, the bond I've shared with other queer women in a non romantic, non sexual way has been wildly different and more intimate than any friendships I've ever had with cishet people, even when we're not as close as my cishet friends. the fact that y'all were like "relationships are strictly within these categories there is only familial, platonic, sexual, and romantic" like yall pls 😭 queer connection and bonding is so much deeper and more complex than that. get offline and connect with some of your community i beg
