Geckos are small, mostly carnivorous lizards that have a wide distribution, found on every continent except Antarctica. By encyclopedic definition. He had Margaret order in a book on the subject specifically so he'd know what enemy he was up against while researching the topic between calls with his agents in Borneo and his lawyers upstate. And Terry Silver would be envious on every continent and in every semblance imaginable where the very prospect of sharing your affection with an animal, another living being, a creature small enough to fit into the palm of his hand was concerned if there wasn't a far better tactic to approach the issue with than secretly boiling in one's concealed anger over it and letting the inertia of envy win and control his thoughts as he observed you caress the thing --- play with it. Separate even mere seconds of attention on it rather than dedicating the same kindness to him and placing your devotion back where it rightfully belonged. Terry knew what to do once he calculated that accidentally ensuring your little friend is lost under mysterious circumstances might cause more rancor on your part than was worth in the long run. No. He needed to rethinking his strategy; Make the lizard love him more. More than it loves you, of course. That's what he'd do, yes. Until it is less your pet and far more his. This was a sort of war. Everything, in effect, was a sort of war, and nothing was too mundane for consideration. A war he intended to win without a single bullet fired and no blood shed. Soft warfare.

Of course coldblooded reptiles don't love. Not in ways mammals do.

Not snakes, not cobras, not geckos.

But they can trust.

They knew whose body-warmth they enjoy. They knew who brings the boiled rats and the meat and the food. They knew scent. They knew instinct. Territory. They knew when to feed, when to mate and when to brumate. They knew ultraviolets of a familiar shape and the outline they habitually see every day, in domesticated captivity and Terry decides he'll be the food bringer, the ultimate warmth, the source, the residual benefit and the owner. He related to reptilians and their ways, after all --- knew how they were wired --- an embroidered silk lace cobra on the back of his white satin Gi, it was safe to say he took on the beast as a sort of spirit animal. A manifestation of self. Maybe why he felt so standoffish at the prospect of his mate loving another thing that wasn't him --- completely and utter and entirely, without pause. King Cobras? They don't share their turf. Not even with another reptilian. Seated on the plush ottoman connected to his mansion's training hall, dripping with searing sweat, he caresses the gecko ardently, a daily ritual he's been practicing for months now, polishing it not unlike his fighting stance, outside of feeding and tending the thing like a child --- and it responded to him, nestling into his hand as per norm, ready for its shedding, covered in coating of peeling, thin, translucent flesh. It responded to him. As planned. More than it did with you nowadays, he noticed. And thought makes him grin into his chin as he runs a forefinger down the lizard's leopard dotted scales. After all, you belonged to him --- and with you, all things that in turn belonged to you did as well.

You all need to know that the ninja have canon pets (confirmed by me) (I’ve officially called them The Ninpanions im so smart its a mashup of ninja and companions)

Zane: his falcon buddy who DIDNT suddenly disappear

Cole: He got a leopard gecko called Pebble in s4 but it died sometime during the oni trilogy because he wasn’t cared for :( BUT he got another one after s13 and named it Gilly :3

Jay: Him and the lightning chicken have an odd attachment to each other they’re basically best friends atp you can’t tell me Jay doesn’t talk to it randomly

Lloyd: He has a cat. Its called Peppermint Swirl. He named her when he was in s2 before he got aged up, she just gets called shortened versions of it though, she started living with Misako from season 5 because yknow ninja stuff but she started staying at the monastery when it got rebuilt. He also co-parents one of Nya’s tarantulas called Fizz

Nya: She has two tarantulas, one is called Fizz, she’s had him since season one and Lloyd and her would look after it together because they were always left out of the ninja-ing (you cant tell me they arent the siblings ever i need more of them together) and she has a second one that she got in season 5 called Dew.

Kai: Kai is scared of most animals end of he DOES however have a fish tank with a goldfish called turbo

Pixal: She has a corn snake named Cody , Kai ADORES it and he wants one himself. He was wary of it at first but he’s Cody’s biggest fan

Wu: He used to have an owl when he was younger he doesn’t have her anymore due to obvious reasons. Now he simply cares for absolutely any creature that wanders into the bounty/monastery he leaves out water and everything

Misako: She has a dog named Buranji and she also looks after Peppermint Swirl

Saw all these inid head canon posts soI’m sharing one of my own:

Initial D Characters and their pets

Fujiwara family- they’ve always been too poor to keep anything officially, but Bunta and Takumi both feed the ally way cats

Speed Stars- I haven’t figured out anything too specific but I share @steakrogers ‘s HC that Kenji owns a ferret that acts as the Speed Stars mascot.

Mogi- her family owns a gorgeous orange long haired cat named something very stereotypical for a cat

Takahashi family- Ryosuke had a gold fish before Keisuke was born but since then his family never allowed pets. Even still Keisuke would try to bring home and keep any animal he found. In the Sims I gave Keisuke a jack Russel.

Kenta- he has a pet hamster at his parents. On free weekends he’ll dress it up for photos.

Fumihiro- he grew up on a farm so has plenty of experience with ungulates and fowl. Really wishes that capybara can be kept as a house pet, settles on a couple of guinea pigs. When he “grows up” he wants a big dog.

Nakazato- he’s never had a pet but he’s always dreamed of having a Bunny

Shingo- He has owned rats since high school, replacing them whenever they die so the other doesn’t get lonely. Despite his unkept appearance and attitude the rats are well taken care of with more space in his apartment than he has

Impact Blue- Mako has a well kept salt water fish tank which Sayuki helps to try to feed every so often. Sayuki is a designer dog enjoyer and might get one if they get a bigger place. Mako’s mom owns a crusty maltese and Sayuki’s grandparents own a gloster canary.

Wataru- He reads as some sort of tank creature owner, unsure if it’s a mammal like a hamster or a reptile like a gecko, whichever his parents always goaded him into sharing the pets chores with his sister and sometimes cousin.

Kyoichi- he owns no pets personally but on occasion he has to pet sit his grandmothers chihuahua, everyone on Iroha can’t help but think they’re very alike

Seiji- owns a cat he picked up on the side of the road. Like Keisuke, he tries to be friends with every animal but his apartment only allows one pet. Constant user of the phrase ‘if not friend why friend shaped’

Kai- he has always been a bug kid, keeping beetles he find in the wild. As an adult he owns a tarantula named Dumpling. Most of his friends are too afraid of the tarantula to come into his room when they hang out.

Todo School- own a shop cat or two

Rin- in an alternate universe where his fiancé doesn’t get fridged and their relationship is healthy, I like to think they own a black mastiff.
