Though The Princess Bride has become an iconic movie and is often talked about as an example of a perfect film, people tend to forget that it wasn't a huge box-office hit in its initial release. The movie, which first hit theaters 35 years ago, it never climbed higher than No. 3 in any given week, and it struggled to cross the $30 million mark. (The film's shooting budget was $16 million, so after marketing and distribution fees, it made very little, if any profit.) Despite its slow start, though, Cary Elwes says he never had any doubt that he was making a great movie, and he's both relieved and thankful that The Princess Bride finally found the audience it deserved.
The Princess Bride is currently streaming on Disney+ and available on DVD, Blu-Ray, and most digital platforms.

This Week in BL - Cameos & Familiar Faces
Entirely subjective yadda yadda. Organized by favs in each category. No numbered lists anymore, tumblr be buggn'.
End of Aug Start Sept 2023
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Thai
Laws of Attraction (Sat iQIYI) 8fin - Oh the DRAMA. Why does the insane ex (my true love) remind me of the cartel leader from Romancing the Stone? Even the sides got HEA! It was fucking great!!!!! Charn remains a bonkers spoiled evil murderous brat with a cruel smile beloved by his one true paladin. Also: post it love note trope! Been a long while my old friend. NO SINGING!!!!! I do love that wedding jacket frock coat cape thing Charn wore.
In conclusion: This is a great gay suspense thriller with several solid couples, fun plot, killer characters, queer rep, and a happy ending. Charn may be my favorite lead character of 2023. However, this show is not entirely BL, more on the fringe, like Manner of Death. Add that to several "singing incidents" and pairs being a little weak in the chemistry arena, and this lands safely in 9/10 territory. It’s tons of fun tho: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
I Feel You Linger in the Air (Sat grey) ep 3 of 12 - This show is getting more and more lakorn each ep. Apparently the straights are having a class divide arranged marriage crisis. Who cares? Our boy is ALWAYS in trouble. Crazy that he has to save the people who betrayed him in a previous life - but I guess he chose revenge! That's unexpected.
Had to switch to grey and couldn’t find a working rip. It was frustrating and I wouldn’t have bothered except I like this show so much. Still, it means no screen caps because the rez is naff.
Tumblr media
Dangerous Romance (Fri YT) ep 3 of 12 - Uh oh. Kang wants to save Sailom and be his hero. The fact that K’s Pa puts no pressure on him whatsoever, makes me wonder if K's Ma committed suicide or something? It’s definitely the opposite parental dynamic we normally see in BL. I have to say, the pacing is great in the show. And the acting is on point. It’s really great.
Hidden Agenda (Sun YT) ep 8 of 12 - these two just kiss well. I mean not "rip your clothes off Taiwan-style," but sweet young boyfriends-esk. Joke wants to be claimed so bad. It’s great. I enjoyed this ep, unfortunately it looks like we have a manufactured angst drama drop in the next episode. Is this a 10 episode arc? I thought it was 12. It’s odd to have doom happening next episode already.
Tumblr media
Only Friends (Sat YT) ep 4 of 10 - Back story time! Ray and Mew are HARD to watch. Incestuous friend group gay is the worst. Omg I got such QAF vibes from this ep. Nick Boston Sand chats = very throw back 90s gay soaps.
Location game moment: Top's hotel room is also Chan’s apartment in Laws Of Attraction.
Naughty Babe (Sat YT) ep 1 of 8 - Ooo. Est is back! Hi handsome. Head of security suits you. Please lead out the new Waterboyy remake? You’re perfect for the role. (If it must happen.) Yi’s Pa is GREAT. Please give daddy a nice boy? Could that be our secondary couple for this series?
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, with the leads (sorry I was distracted by daddy) we got us an arranged marriage, run away bride, and an amnesia trope. Put in a secret baby and it's squarely 1980's Harlequin. Will there be Vikings? Sex herbs? Pirates? Dub con?
Be Mine Super Star (Mon Viki) ep 9 of 12 - Again with lovely sex scenes, it’s just the plot stringing them together is frayed. Also don’t fuck in an onsen. Both yech and ouch.
That goes for all y’all.
Wedding Plan (Wed YT & iQIYI) ep 7fin - Trash watch here! Honestly this was an okay ending, I’m not mad at it. If you can tolerate Mame and liars (kinda the same thing) you’ll be fine with this show.
Summation: An innocent wedding planner falls haplessly and hopelessly in love with a groom who relentlessly pursued him, even though he’s about to marry someone else. A somewhat lackluster mame offering with less of the usual stellar chemistry, but all of the usual lies and manipulation. 7/10
Love in Translation (Sat iQIYI) ep 3 of 10 - I skip everything to do with Tammy and it’s fine. There’s only about 20 minutes of fine but that’s more than enough. On the bright side. So far. No singing.
My Universe (Sun iQIYI) ep 2 of 24 eps - Cassanova Begins Part 2. Aw. It was sad. Another variation on the “my ghost boyfriend” trope (usually sad). 2/10 I don't do sad BL.
Next up is Merry Go Round featuring the pair from Destiny Seeker (we likey) who want to marry each other, but end up fake engaged to the same woman. Beard squared? Looks silly.
Crazy Handsome Rich (Sun Gaga) ep 1 of 10 - There are 2 things I like about this. I bet you can guess what they are.
Lee Long Shi
The whipping boy trope
There wasn’t enough of either in this first ep. ALSO the captions, sound effects, and voice over are truly next level bad. Utterly atrocious.
The 2 leads fucking around in the end credits was the funniest part of the whole show.
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
Jun & Jun (Korea Thur Viki) ep 7 of 8 - I am confused and frustrated about what the communication delay is between the two Juns. It feels artificial and narratively manufactured. But since this is a short form KBL and I know it will be resolved quickly, I’m not as annoyed as I would be if this were Thai BL. Still it feels audience manipulative. I also feel sorry for Simon. BUT it looks like it’ll be a sweet boyfriends final episode.
Tumblr media
Stay By My Side (Taiwan Fri Gaga) ep 10fin - Omg they’re so cute!!! Taiwan the purveyors of ultimate sappy gay domesticity. I am going to miss having these to nonsencing all over my dash.
This show was an interesting take on the "ghost boyfriend" trope. About a boy who is tormented by hearing the dead, except when he is around one other boy - desperation+proximity = love. Unfortunately, the story was erratic and waffled about. While the leads turned in solid performances and the sappy domesticity was off the charts, it never really had the strength of the narrative convictions such a strong concept should have supplied. Highly rewatchable and enjoyable for that sappy domesticity but not a whole lot more. Still I always give extra credit for the diabetes-inducing sugar content and rewatch capacity. 8/10
Kisseki: Dear to Me (Taiwan Tues Viki & iQIYI) eps 3 of 13(?) - I love the punching thing - there is a lot of violent flirting in this show. I’m not mad about it. Ugh, poor thing has real abandonment issues. And now trust issues. I see why we’re getting 12-14 eps. This gonna be MESSY.
Meanwhile, does EVERYONE have a guest cameo? Not that I’m complaining. Hi BLIHID boys! Now I need to rewatch that show.
Tumblr media
Love Class Season 2 (Korea Fri Viki) eps 7-8 of 10 - Oh my God the next morning w/ couple 2 was so darn cute. They are all such terrible flirts with each other. Honestly, this show makes me laugh more than any other BL currently airing. I’m not sure it is meant to be as funny as I find it. While couple 3 (the mature characters) is by far my favorite, I actually think they don’t work with the other two pairs, they feel superfluous to the show. I like the show better because they’re in it, but it feels like two different BL‘s stuck together. KBL certainly can’t handle more than two couple threads at the same time.
Why R U? (Korea Wed iQIYI) eps 3-4 of 8 - Ugh. I am such a sucker for the FighterTutor dynamic. Why so good? Uh oh. Real kiss! KBL you're spoiling us. But, isn’t sad-seme-hyung dating some chick? Argh. Poor Sunwoo. This show is even worse at repping Fighter's character sympathetically. Who knew that was possible?
My Personal Weatherman AKA Taikan Yoho (Japan Sat Gaga) ep 3 of 8 - The date episode! Even Japan is doing it now. And these two who have been living/fucking together for ages still dance around each other like junior high kids. I gotta say, I watch this one twice because Vicki has different subs from Gaga. I feel like it’s easier to understand if I watch two different translations of the same script. But it’s still quite a taciturn piece.
Minato's Laundromat Season 2 AKA Minato Shouji Coin Laundry Season 2 (Japan Thu Gaga) ep 8 of 12 - Sides are great. It was mostly a cute ep with tiny bits of Progress and a proper Confession. I miss Shin’s siblings. And then… the much loathed amnesia trope. Really?
Everyone say it with me: Must you, Japan?
Stay Still (Hong Kong Tues YouTube) ep 5fin - It ended happier than I was expecting. Optimistic for one couple, and most likely optimistic for the other.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summation: What to say about this offering from Hong Kong? It’s different, a mix of early CBL, Taiwanese shorts, and Pinoy visuals. It felt like the story was 2 independent shorts that had been lengthen and then stuck together, and I wish they'd been approached as separate and tighter entities. Nevertheless, this was a complex little piece,  interesting in a sweaty grungy way, with a certain aura of queer authenticity that made it simultaneously tense, unpredictable, and refreshing. I’m not sure I would necessarily call it BL, but any county’s early foray into the genre usually starts out this way, so perhaps nascent BL? Worth watching, especially if you enjoy stuff from the Philippines and Taiwan. 7/10
In case you missed it
Dinosaur Love ended its run but the final 2 eps are behind a paywall. Word on the street is they aren't good anyway (shocker) so I'm marking it as DNF and moving on with my life. If I can find em grey I'll watch 'em merely so I can give it a rating, but I can't imagine it will get more than 5/10. Seriously, do not bother.
Next Week Looks Like This:
Tumblr media
Coming September
9/15 You Are Mine (Taiwan Gaga) Secretary has to deal with grumpy boss.
9/15 Bump Up Business AKA Bump Up Project (Korea movie) suspected cinema release? I don't know much about what's going on. Last status update. Love story between a trainee who is about to debut and a celebrity from the same agency. Kpop boy group OnlyOneOf has signed up to star in this idol-based BL (based on a webtoon). They’ve been auditioning for this since Libido IMHO. You can watch me chronicle their BL MV series in this post. It’s from Idol Romance who will do sad but can do good kisses (Wish You, Nobleman Ryu, Once Again, Kissable Lips, Poongduck 304, Tasty Florida, Tinted With You).
9/26 I Cannot Reach You AKA I Can't Reach You AKA Kimi ni wa Todokanai (Japan ????) - Adapted from the manga, childhood best friends: The cool, smart one who’s good at everything, and his average, dorky friend who struggles. Always by the other’s side, but not together in the way they truly want to be. No matter how hard they try, their hearts cannot reach each other.
9/27 Absolute Zero (Thai iQIYI) - from 2021, Studio Wabi Sabi and New Siwaj finally bring us this “time loop to prevent tragedy” romance. We don’t always get HEAs from them, so I'm on my guard.
9/? Venus in the Sky (Thai iQIYI) 10 eps
9/? Mr Cinderella 2 (Vietnam YouTube?)
2023 forthcoming BL master post (see comments, some are inaccurate, NOT KEPT UPDATED).
THIS WEEK’S BEST MOMENTS
Tumblr media
Hidden Agenda hitting us up with a hug + lap + kiss. Very nice.
Tumblr media
I think these two might be GMMTV's best cuddlers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Boys, I think your JoongDunk is showing.

David Tennant's Obscure TV Appearances: 1989's Biting The Hands
I'm back from my visit with my family and ready to dive straight into my latest find - I'm excited to share I've finally obtained access to David's 3rd earliest TV performance! His first two performances were in 1988: his anti-smoking ad, and in Dramarama: The Secret Of Croftmore. And in 1989 he did a Play On One called Biting The Hands. And I've FINALLY got it! Biting The Hands has been one of the most elusive pieces of work David did in his early years. First, it wasn't a sitcom or an ad but a one-off play, and it was broadcast in the late 1980s, limiting its exposure to those who might be recording on beta or VHS. It was part of the second series of the prime-time contemporary single TV play series, The Play On One (which was itself a re-tooling of an older series called The Play For Today.) Biting The Hands was directed by Carol Wilks and produced by Norman McCandlish. It was 75 mins in length, and was broadcast at 9:30 pm on 11 Apr 1989. Here's the play's synopsis: "Linda and Gail are Hell's Belles - an alternative comedy double act. When success begins to beckon, they must decide whether to change their act or keep doing what they believe in. Are their principles justified, or are they just 'biting the hand that feeds them'?"
The writer of Biting The Hands, Rona Munro, was born in Aberdeen in 1959 and is an award-winning Scottish playwright. She started writing professionally in 1981 and has written for film, television, stage and radio. Biting The Hands was Munro's first play for BBC-TV. Given today's excitement about the Doctor Who 60th Anniversary trailer, it might interest Whovians to know Munro wrote the classic DW story Survival as well as the New Who story The Eaters of Light, making her the first (and only!) writer to do both Classic and New Who!
But Munro has yet ANOTHER connection with our dear DT! For their production of Scotland Matters in 1992, the 7:84 Scottish People's Theatre asked established Scottish writers to consider aspects of life in Scotland and write playlets about them. Munro was one of these writers! She wrote a playlet called 'The Fence' for Scotland Matters which concerned the interrogation of a Gulf War peace protester. In a turn around of questioning technique, we are told the story through the security police and not via the protester. David played the protester Keith!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But back to Biting The Hands - which was produced three years before Scotland Matters and filmed when David was still in drama school. Let's take a look at what the play was about, and go more in depth about its stars: Judith Sweeney (Linda) and Louise Beattie (Gail).
Judith Sweeney (Linda McKay) attended David's alma mater - the RSAMD, now the Royal Conservatoire - and graduated in 1977. She played the role of Sally Shaw on the Scottish soap opera Take The High Road. Louise Beattie (Gail Graham) later went on to star in Emmerdale.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here are a few more articles on "Biting The Hands" from the time of its broadcast:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Beattie's older sister Maureen has ALSO starred with DT many times! Among these are For One Night Only (an evening of theatrical prose, poetry, and gossip at the Swan Theatre for the 1998 RSC Fringe Festival) and a 2001 staged reading of Medea at the Cottesloe Theatre. More recently, Maureen has played David’s mother in Deadwater Fell, and Kelly MacDonald's mother in The Decoy Bride!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now we've been introduced to the stars of the play, and we know what it's about, let's get to David's part! His part begins about 47 minutes into the play, and it's a role which makes up a total of about 20 whole seconds. He plays one of three squaddies (low-ranking military) and is in a group of soldiers who travel on the train the main characters Linda and Gail board in Edinburgh to go to London - but he's not seen in this particular scene. After the ladies board the return train back home to Edinburgh, by coincidence these same squaddies happen to be traveling on their train. David's character is the only one of the squaddies to speak, and his words entail wolf-whistles at the two women and calling them "Pet"! Here are some screenshots:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In a later scene, Linda and Gail happen to bump into another friend on the train, and the three open a bottle of liquor and sing and drink. David's character sings and drinks with them. Here are a few screenshots of that short scene:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You may notice in the first set of screenshots David is clean shaven & in the second, he sports a mustache. These scenes all supposedly occur on the same train from London to Edinburgh so it seems there's a continuity error here. Perhaps these scenes were shot at different times?
These short scenes are the only times David appears in the play. He's given credit in the end titles. Of significance, though, is he is NOT credited as the "Third Squaddie" (a designation I've seen all over the Internet for close to a decade). He's just the third squaddie listed.
Tumblr media
The BFI (British Film Institute) holds a VHS video recording of Biting The Hands. The copy is in "pending" status, which means it's unlikely the copy can be viewed.
Before I close this post on Biting The Hands, two more little benefits: here are its opening sequence, and its title frame!

Satisfied [Part 1]
☆ Dmitri Antonov x fem!Reader
☆ Warnings: age gap (15 years apart), depiction of toxic relationship (not dmitri x reader), marital intimidation, bullying, self esteem issues
☆ Word Count: 2104
☆ Summary: When you greet the new neighbor in your quiet cul-de-sac in Hawkins, you meet someone you thought you wouldn’t see again. Tense and strained relations with both of your spouses lead to some unexpected circumstances as you navigate who you are.
☆ A/N: The long awaited fic inspired by many films specifically In the Mood for Love with hints of Lost in Translation. Enjoy :) Also I like to think that Dmitri would call Jim by his full name to annoy him sometimes haha
Also big shoutout to the anon(s)? That have been giving me ideas for the plot!! I want to give them credit for how this fic will navigate and hopefully I will do them justice! 💛

July 23rd, 1980
Your mother shuffled you over in front of the wall, you held your bouquet of flowers — yellow carnations and lilies. Looking on at the mass of guests, most of them being your husband’s family and friends. You could count the few who were on your side. Everything was so unfamiliar, the dress felt too finicky, you don’t remember choosing the wedding colors, you hated your bouquet, but you faked a smile anyways.
Hearing your husband's laughter pierced your ears. The way he was so nonchalant about everything. He was so quick to wife you up, the courting, the dates, the little escapades but you were finally his fiancée all of that was quickly dropped. You looked over at him, his coiffed brown hair, his crooked smile, and how inviting he was, you couldn’t help but feel like you’ve been lied to. That this “husband act” was nothing but him putting on a facade. Now that you’re officially married, you were definitely secured and he doesn’t need to put in any effort. You watched as your mother scuffled over, fixing your hair and reprimanding you for looking unkempt. “You always look like a mess,” She said. “You have to start taking care of yourself,” You clenched your jaw. “Unless you want him out with another woman,” Your father called over your husband, he locked eyes with you seemingly concerned with whatever is going on. He rushed over, kissing you at your temple.
“You okay?” He asked. You nodded and he smiled. “Well what’s going on? You’re not teasing my wife are you?” He asked your mother. She laughed.
“Just giving her some sound advice. Was just telling her that she needs to take care of herself or you’ll go out and find another woman!”
He gave you a look over, “Well I just might by the end of the night!” He joked. Your family all laughed at his but you could feel tears welling up in your eyes. A fake sneeze was able to cover your disposition, but nothing could cover the sting in your heart. You looked at him, charming every family member and they didn’t even look at you, not once, and your big day.
“Alright alright alright, can we get a couple's photo? Let’s give them some space for a couple’s photo. I need to capture the lovely newlyweds,” Everyone slowly moved out of the way and he grabbed your waist. Following the photographer’s instructions, we moved through the series of poses. You zoned out and looked at all of his family members watching. They zeroed in on you, you watched as they made faces and whispered to each other. “Hellooooo, earth to bride, let's look at the camera,” The photographer said. “Give us a smile like it’s the happiest day of your life!” You strained a smile. Flash!
October 11th, 1987
Rough kisses littered your neck, pulling you from your sleep. Your eyes opened, a dark room barely illuminated by the dusk. His facial hair tickled you, at first you thought it was a mustache but he came closer and you could feel the rough beard. You turned over, your husband Richard kissing all of your face. His wet hair drips all over your pillow. “Heading to work now babe,” He said, giving you one final kiss.
You yawned, “The neighbors are moving in today,”
“Well you’ll be around so tell them I said hi,” He got up, brushing his shirt of any lint and fixed his tie as he headed out the door with his briefcase nestled under his arm. The loud shut of the door shook the walls and you covered yourself with the blanket, hoping to fall asleep again.
Six hours later, you awoke to the birds chirping outside your humble home. The streets were quiet, it was gray and wet, typical of the weather. The pretty autumn leaves were all but crushed muddied colors. You looked around, your husband left a mess as he usually does. Socks were strewn on the floor, pajamas weren’t anywhere near the hamper, and the light in the bedroom’s bathroom was left on. For six whole hours, probably longer. You sighed and picked up the clothes, turned off the lights and made your way into the kitchen.
Your typical day was waking up, cleaning the bedroom, making breakfast, organizing the bathroom (clean if needed), laundry, maybe some groceries, saying hi to your neighbors who didn’t say hi back. Richard told you that the suburbs were calm but if this was calm then you hated it. “You’ll like the house,” He said. “We can’t live somewhere too busy, remember last time?”
Your last house was right outside the now burned down and demolished Starcourt Mall. It was close to everything, grocery chains, clothes, something to keep you busy. Now it’s just this – calm. You didn’t know if you hated it, but you couldn’t complain. As you cleaned the house, you let the answering machine drown out the birds. Calls from work for Richard mostly, some saleswoman asking if you want to buy a sewing machine, a call from mom, and a call from your younger sister.
“Hey, please call me back sometime. I’m free around 5 pm before dinner. Would love to catch up!” Your mom’s voice played from the scratchy answering machine. A beep. Shuffling can be heard from the back, it was definitely your sister.
“Hey, just letting you know I reserved a ticket for you for my graduation. I’m graduating… December…fuck wait. Shit I forgot my own graduation. Okay okay December 15th! Call me back if you’re planning on coming, if not i’ll give it to Rhett’s mom,”
You continued folding clothes, letting the silence fill your house again, continuing with your daily routine.

Dmitri carried the small box to his small house on Doyle Street, 2nd house from the main road in a quiet cul-de-sac. Settling in America…in Indiana of all places was never in his plans. It pissed off his wife even more, as she ignored the movers and Dmitri, already talking on the phone with her friends back home.
“This place is a shithole,” She spoke in their native language. “Can’t believe it. So disappointing,” She said, glancing over at Dmitri. He huffed and walked back out, looking at the quiet street. That young American woman talked about living in a quiet cul-de-sac. I wonder where she is? He looked at the neighbor’s mailbox, faintly making out “Waters” — must be a last name.
At dinner, Dmitri picked up the newspaper looking at the various advertisements.
Flowery Years — voted #1 florist in Roane County. Maggie’s — trendy boutique for all ages. Tony’s Lawn Service — Voted #1 Lawn Mowing and Bug Extermination for 4 Years in a row!
“Honey, did you pick up a job?” Dmitri asked. “You know the policeman? James? The American who saved my life? He gave me a job at a mining company, and said it pays well,”
“Oh a laborer's job, how typical,” She said. Dmitri sighed.
“It’s only temporary. I’ll try to find ones that are more suited to my skills but this is fine for now. So did you find one?”
Galina looked at him. “I did, it’s out of the county. It’s a secretarial job,” She said. “You’re more familiar with the residents, it’s good that you’re closer to…our new home,”
Dmitri silently agreed, looking around at his new home. It was going to take a while, but at least he was safe for now. As night time rolled around he felt it was too safe. His part of the neighborhood was too quiet, except for the animals he could hear outside his window. The occasional car driving him from a late shift. He almost liked the comfort of the car lights changing the shapes of the shadows because he was so used to the hustle and bustle of working in an environment like that. Now living out some American dream in suburbia.
——
October 12th, 1987
Dmitri kissed his wife before she entered her car. A man from the Waters household came out and flagged them down. “Hey! My name is Richard — you can call me Dick. Welcome to the neighborhood!” He said. “Did my wife meet you?”
His name is Dick Waters?
“No she didn’t,” Galina replied.
He placed his hand on his hips, “What a shame,” He paused. “She must have taken a nap or something. I’m sure she’ll greet you guys soon. Where are you from?”
“Russia,” Dmitri replied curtly.
“That’s soooo awesome. Love me a vodka tonic,” Richard said as he playfully punched Dmitri. He nervously chuckled and waved as his neighbor hurried to his car with his large briefcase in tow. He waved Galina goodbye before heading inside. This place is a shithole.
——
You made cookies and prepped dinner the next day. The cookies were for the new neighbors and you made sure dinner was easy to prepare, not wanting a repeat of yesterday’s events.
You were so tired you dozed off and you forgot to make dinner. “Hey babe, think you can make a hot meal tomorrow? I’m just going to eat the leftovers,”
“Yeah yeah, sorry I was just tired,”
“It’s fine,” He said curtly. He always did this thing, his back hunched over like a wall.
You quickly got up from the couch and frantically hustled around the kitchen to make something. “I can make something, it'll take a while,” He said nothing as he picked at the cold leftovers from yesterday. You made work with the pasta and the sauce heating up in the pan. You kept looking back at him as he sulked about with his food. He took off his tie and threw it on the ground. “It’s almost done. I really would appreciate it if you didn’t throw a fit. This is just a one time thing,”
“No, like it literally isn’t,” He said back. “You’ve been doing this a lot babe and I don’t appreciate it. I leave work early in the morning - I mean what exactly are you doing?”
“Nothing! I’m practically at home! It’s almost done just wait,” You said as you glanced at the tie, another piece of clothing you’ll have to pick up. “This doesn’t happen a lot, one time thing!”
“Yeah right,” He mocked. You plated the dish as he ate in silence, ignoring you entirely. You made your way around, picking up his tie and putting it where he belonged. The loud clang of the utensils filled the hallway as you laid down in your new sleepwear waiting for that familiar dip in the bed. You closed your eyes pretending to sleep as he got ready for bed, slamming the drawers, and making a mess. He peppered kisses on your cheeks. “Babe you awake, I missed you,” He said. “You’re not mad at me are you?”
“No,” You lied.
“I missed you…”
“Not now,” He huffed and turned the lights off.
All of the cookies looked so cute in its tupperware. It looked like it was another childless couple like you and your husband, but you made extra just to be safe. You looked at yourself in the mirror, smoothing out any wrinkles with your finger, making sure a hair wasn’t out of place, and every fine line on your shirt wasn’t noticeable. As you headed out the door, the cul de sac was empty per usual. The neighbor across the street waved at you as you headed over. The house looked empty but there was a car in the driveway. Looks like Chief Hopper’s old car. Or is it just Jim, these days?
You rang the doorbell, stepping back when you realized you were too close. The door opened and a face you didn’t think you would ever see again met your gaze.
“Hello stranger,” He said.
“Dmitri?! What are you doing here? I didn’t think you would be here,”
“Well, plans change. Do you live next door?” He asked. He still looked the same, it was unbelievable. Just as he did the day he was out of the prison.
You nervously held your head, “Yeah I do! Uh, right there near the stop signs. House 22,”
He nodded. “I think I met your husband? Dick, right?”
You sunk your head in embarrassment, “He’s trying really hard to fit in at the office so he’s been using Dick right now. Someone said he looks like Robin from Batman or something. It’s not sticking,”
Dmitri laughed, “I don’t know, I think it’s…definitely…unique,” He said. “Would you like to come in?”
You looked around, making sure no one was outside. “Sure!”

Aristasian books & Literature on Archive.org
Tumblr media
There is a wealth of information about Aristasia and proto-Aristasia available as books on archive.org! They easily pop up when you just search "Aristasia" but it may be a little bit confusing if you don't know what you're looking for, so hopefully this helps other pettes in their searches.
Artemis Magazine
Artemis #5
Artemis #6
Artemis was a wlw lesbian zine released in the mid 1980s by a group of women who were directly involved in the St. Bride's School onward. A number of them were released, but only volumes 5 & 6 are available on the internet currently. These are interesting because they frequently have articles written by known Aristasians, and you can really see the tiny little baby blossoms of Aristasia here, including articles about St. Bride's School.
Various Romantia Magazines
Realm of Romantia
Imperial Angel #1
Imperial Angel #2
The Romantic #1
The Romantic #2
The Romantic #3
The Romantic #4
The Romantic #5
There are a number of different Romantia zines released, I have skipped over The English Magazine in this list, simply because there isn't a ton of proto-Aristasian information in those, it's mostly just pit-crit and secession-from-the-modern-world type stuff. Warning on one of these for some just outright racist copy of antique advertisements, unfortunately I can never remember which one it is until I find it. However, these do have very strong early world building, including the formation of the districts and the idea of racinated thinking.
The Wildfire Club
Children of the Void
The Female Disciplinary Manual
The Rule of the Strap
When the Wind is Free
The Feminine Regime
Disciplined Ladies
The District Governess
The Corporal Punishment of Schoolgirls
House of Correction
Happy Tears
The Wildfire Club was their 1990's publishing imprint. These are largely erotica books, some of them are written by Miss Martindale (by several different names), others are story compilations, at least one is a reprint of a much older book. Children of the Void is the most iconic Aristasian book and has the most Aristasia worldbuilding in it, the rest are, let's be very honest here, mostly just kind of smut by volume.
