Legends of the humanoids
Reptilian humanoids (5)
Wuxing – the connections between the Five Dragon Kings (Ref) and the Five Elements philosophy
To better understand the origins of the Five Dragon Kings and the ancient Chinese legend, it is worth mentioning the wuxing of natural philosophy, which states that all things are composed of five elements: fire, water, wood, metal and earth.
The underlying idea is that the five elements 'influence each other, and that through their birth and death, heaven and earth change and circulate'.
The five elements are described as followed:
Wood/Spring: a period of growth, which generates abundant vitality, movement and wind.
Fire/Summer: a period of swelling, flowering, expanding with heat.
Earth is associated with ripening of grains in the yellow fields of late summer.
Metal/Autumn: a period of harvesting, collecting and dryness.
Water/Winter: a period of retreat, stillness, contracting and coolness.
The wuxing system, in use since the Han dynasty (2nd century BCE), appears in many seemingly disparate fields of early Chinese thought, including music, feng shui, alchemy, astrology, martial arts, military strategy, I Ching divination, and traditional medicine, serving as a metaphysics based on cosmic analogy.
The wuxing originally referred to the five major planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, Mars and Venus), which were thought of as the five forces that create life on earth. Wu Xing litterally means moving star and describes the five types of Qi (all the vital substances) cycles through various stages of transformation. As yin and yang continuously adjust to one another and transform into one another in a never-ending dance of harmony, they tend to do so in a predictable pattern.
The lists of correlations for the five elements are diverse, but there are two cycles explaining the major interaction. The yin-yang interaction, which by increasing or decreasing the qualities and functions associated with a particular phase, it may either nourish a phase that is in deficiency or drain a phase that is in excess or restrain a phase that is exerting too much influence (see below):
The Creation Cycle (Yang)
Wood feeds Fire
Fire creates Earth (ash)
Earth bears Metal
Metal collects Water
Water nourishes Wood
The Destruction Cycle (Yin)
Wood parts Earth
Earth dams (or absorbs) Water
Water extinguishes Fire
Fire melts Metal
Metal chops Wood
The Huainanzi (2nd BCE) describes the five colored dragons (azure/green, red, white, black, yellow) and their associations (Chapter 4: Terrestrial Forms), as well as the placement of sacred beasts in the five directions (the Four Symbols beasts, dragon, tiger, bird, tortoise in the four cardinal directions and the yellow dragon.

A sequel to the ‘most annoying guy TM in the Jianghu’ and ‘most annoying guy TM in the cdrama capital’ poll because I was specifically asked to include Ming Tai and honestly he deserves it
Propaganda of a sort under cut - also feel free to provide your own
Ming Tai: as a teenager (early 20s? unclear: Hu Ge is blatantly in his mid 30s but we're ignoring this because he's a good actor) and a baby brother raised by significantly older siblings, Ming Tai is the spoiled brat. He's also very good at being a competent spy when he needs to be, but that doesn't make him less annoying when he wants to be, which is always
Shang Xirui: of all the characters on here he's the only one I actually personally cannot stand, but that's partly because he sings opera and I have discovered through watching Winter Begonia that I do not like opera of any kind. But also he's insufferable and needs to get a grip on reality. Some things are more important than the show! Like FOOD! And the WAR!
Zhao Yunlan: SUCKING TOO HARD ON YOUR LOLLIPOP OH LOVE'S GONNA GET YA DOWN. Guardian was the first CDrama I saw and I actually don't remember what he did but I do remember that he liked to cause problems
Wen Kexing: Winner of the 'most annoying guy in the jianghu' poll, I don't think I really need to write propaganda about him but like. Has he considered a method of flirting that does not consist of stalking a random homeless man?
Wei Wuxian: 2nd in the jianghu poll. Everyone knows why he's annoying, I won't go into this any more than to say in the Cloud Recesses arc he distinctly reminds me of one of the most annoying people I have ever met in real life
Lin Chen: 3rd in the jianghu poll and my personal Favourite Guy. To paraphrase @nemainofthewater: 'if he was in it for any longer I wouldn't be able to stand him, but he's only there for long enough that it's actually charming'. Enjoys the fact that he's smarter than (almost) everyone else and likes to be obnoxious about it
Mei Changsu: came joint 1st in the 'most annoying guy in the cdrama capital' poll. Professional party ruiner, but he does try to only enjoy it when his political enemies are suffering. Gets to tag team with Lin Chen bc I don’t want them to split votes and also because between them they manage to annoy literally every character in the whole show
Fan Xian: joint 1st in the capital poll AND 4th in the jianghu poll because he is annoying all the time and everywhere. As a transmigrator he is (unfortunately) aware that he is the main character, causes problems on purpose
Zhao Yujin: 3rd the capital poll. I won't lie that this surprised me because I have seen one gifset total for this show on tumblr (the one that persuaded us to watch), but I guess for those who have seen it it is a legal requirement to vote for him because of literally everything he does ever. In his defence he fell in a pond as a child and then his overbearing mother babied him. That being said, he is an adult now
Huang Yaoshi: included because of @tavina-writes's extensive propaganda in the jianghu poll: my favourite part of it was "the OG torture flute soloist; his flute solo canonically sounds like sex, x-rated porn sounds"
Wu Xin: I missed him off the original jianghu poll, and also the whole point of the polls is for me to try and get people to watch my shows so there’s more fic and I’m not just here crying on my own. An overpowered gremlin boy. 'Would you like to get kidnapped?' 'no??' 'ok that's cool I'm kidnapping you anyway!'

Hiiii!
❤️💥👻🎁🦋 for the fanfic writer ask game?
Hiiii ~ OmG many questions ✪ ω ✪
For this ask game~ Here
❤️ What is your favorite line that you’ve written in a fic? This kind of question is really hard for me as a writer because I am not the fun and quippy kind with snappy lines people remember for long after they leave the fic behind. In light of my failings, an abbreviated snippet from Chap2 of f!WWX & YZY fic: (WWX) It is too strange that Madam Yú would get him clothes he would like. That she would work on his clothes personally. “You hate me.” (YZY) [ … ] “Sometimes I do,” she agrees, as easy as if she’s giving her opinion on the tea. I just //deep breaths// love the hostility of the WWX & YZY relationship in canon. I like the way WWX bites back (when JFM isn't around). In this AU, they have more in common as WWX steps into the gender role of "woman" and YZY gets the actual responsibility of seeing to his health and fortune, but that still comes after 11 ish years of canon-like events where YZY tried often to tear him apart because of JFM's general mishandling of the situation and her own insecurities. Okay sorry I am rambling, but canon WWX takes after YZY far more than fandom likes to admit and in any AU where she lives, I wholly believe WWX and YZY are allies when it comes to anything to do with JC. Not to get all wild analysis on you, but I like the parallel that the narrative observes YZY wanted to stuff JC back into her belly to keep him out of harm... and then chronologically, the next thing is that WWX gives up something from his belly to protect JC from harm. Okay that was a tangent, moving on...
💥 What is one canon thing that you wish you could change? 2nd Round with this question. What else would I change? (MDZS) Like, no one will agree with me on this, but I would have desperately loved if best boy 💛Jin Ling💛 looked like his mother instead. If he reminded WWX of JYL instead. If JL had his mother's eyes and height and freckles (headcanon) but he has so much of JC's attitude (which is similar enough to JZX in some aspects that JC can blame the father for things he also does). JL being soft and bratty. JL helping to cook during the Yi City scene because he knows his way around a kitchen; he endeavored to learn because Jiujiu told him that Yanli loved to cook. Etc. Etc. I'd like it if WWX takes +2 damage every time he looks at JL and sees the peeking of soft lavender collars from beneath the gold robes, and is reminded that it's JYL's favorite color. 💜
👻 What is your wildest headcanon? 2nd Round with this question. Gonna reinterpret the word "wild" and look to nature on this one. I headcanon that JC is an animal-whisperer. Animals love him, he's good with them, he likes them better than people. The mousers that keep Lianhua Wu rodent-free come up to him all the time and just go belly up at his feet. WWX should have gotten over his phobia for all the practice he got hanging around JC and some roving stray would be like !!! The Boy!!! and run up to JC looking for snacks and scritches. Is there any canon support for this at all? No. But canon doesn't directly contradict me either. My biggest reason for this headcanon is that WWX is canonically bad with animals. So, JC gets to be good at something that WWX isn't. Ta-da!
🎁 Have a piece of a WIP you want to share? I have so many... Zoids AU after a bit of a ChengXian upset:
Jiāng Chéng glares down. “About time you stopped hiding.”  “Was not!”  “Then what were you doing?” He leans against the rail, almost bent double over it to look down.  Wèi Wúxiàn traces the elegant line of Jiāng Chéng’s back, defined by that criminal unitard, interrupted by the bulk of his jacket tied around his waist. “What a man does in private should stay private, but if you ask again, I’ll tell you.” And a wink for good measure!  Jiāng Chéng slowly blinks those pretty silver eyes of his, stunned for all of a moment before the flush of embarrassment colors his cheeks and ears all at once. “You’re fucking shameless.”
🦋 Which character is your favorite to write? Aiya, so like "favorite to write" like do they mean perspective? Do they mean just having the character doing stuff in the scene? I'll just answer both. I LOVE writing Jiang Cheng but my favorite character perspective (so far) is Wei Wuxian. That probably explains so much about my shipping habits 😅 JC is just fascinating to observe and WWX is nosy. Prime combo, right there.
🌟✨🌟✨🌟✨
Woof that took a bit and I should be working! Thank you SOO much for giving me excuses to ramble and ponder. 🙌

Chapter 89 (You're still alive)

Master post
What did I promise you last time?.. Ah, yes.
The Bozhou massacre
After Li Chong's death, Qiu Shenji arrived to Bozhou. According to the chronicles, the citizens came out in submission, wearing white mourning clothes, but Qiu Shenji still killed them, destroying a thousand households, and claimed the achievements for himself, getting awarded the title of General-in-Chief of the Left of the Imperial Insignia Guard.
After Li Chong's rebellion was suppressed and his father also defeated, Empress Wu ordered one of the secret police officers (those who've seen the 2nd season of the donghua will be familiar with Zhou Xing) to investigate further. As a result, several other members of the Li family were forced to commit suicide and those who remained alive were stripped of their surname and titles.
If you have some ideas on the next historical background installments, please tell me (maybe you'd like to hear more about some of the stuff from the donghua, for example - I don't think manhua has stuff on general Qiu's father, for example, so I can put that wherever). For now I think I'll keep the next long explanation to about chapter 95-96 when it will be time to talk about the Secret Police and Zhou Xing and Lai Junchen's roles in it.

Posting my Thunderbolt Fantasy playlist here! This is not the whole OST, this is a selection of my 24 favorite pieces (however the whole ost is also awesome! I linked to it here)
Track list below the cut if you’re interested (not spoilery)!
His/Story (season 2 OP, full version)
Lang Wu Yao (Lang Wu-Yao's theme)
show-no-feel (Shang Bu-Huan's theme)
Claymore (I actually don't know what this is. It's a lyric version of Show-No-Feel that's featured on the Crescent Cutlass single. as far as I know, it does not appear in the show.)
Judgement (season 3 OP, full version)
Roll the Dice (season 2 ED, full version)
thunderBOLTfantasy (Thunderbolt Fantasy main theme)
tanh1 (Dan Fei's theme)
GKpeople (the Xuan Gui Zong's theme)
from either way (Shou Yun-Xiao's theme (1st half), Juan Can-Yun's theme (2nd half))
Kguy&kill don't Ikill (Xing Hai's season 1 theme (1st half), Sha Wu-Sheng's theme (2nd half))
Betsu Ten guy (Mie Tian-Hai's theme)
Crescent Cutlass (insert song from Bewitching Melody of the West)
He Zi Ying Luo (Xie Yingluo's theme)
Xiao Kuang Juan (Xiao Kuang-Juan's theme)
Di Kong (Di Kong's theme)
Lu Zhen Jie (Lou Zhen-Jie's theme)
Huo Shi Ming Huang (Huo Shi Ming Huang's theme)
Divine Swarm (the Order of the Divine Swarm's theme)
Wàn Jūn Pò (Wan Jun-Po's theme)
Princess Cháo Fēng (Chao Feng's theme)
Azibělpher (Azibelpher's theme)
Sinister Fortress (the Demon Realm's theme)
Raimei (season 1 OP, full version)
My notes:
The soundtrack is composed by Hiroyuki Sawano. All lyrics are sung by Takanori Nishikawa (also known as T.M. Revolution), a Japanese pop singer and the voice actor for Lang Wu-Yao.
The track names from season 1 are written in the Roman alphabet, so for those I used the styling present on the album. The other track names are translated/Romanized as needed.
Some of these are used as generic BGM but are named after (and primarily used for) a certain character/group, so I've simply listed them as "___'s theme"
Some tracks are variations on each other or the same theme. Such pairs are His/Story & Thunderboltfantasy, Show-No-Feel & Claymore, Gkpeople & Betsu Ten Guy, and Azibelpher & Sinister Fortress :D
Again, this is just a collection of my favorites, not the most used or most iconic tracks (sorry Lin🦆). My top 5 are probably Crescent Cutlass, Show-No-Feel, His/Story, He Zi Ling Yuo, and Lang Wu Yao!

Records of Jiankang (280 - 311)
The Jiankang Shilu by Xu Song (c. 760) is a history covering the six dynasties that located their capitals at Jianye/Jiankang: Wu, (Eastern) Jin, Song, Qi, Liang, and Chen. It is written in the annalistic style with a main chronology interspersed with short biographic sketches (sometimes these are not so short).
I've skipped past Wu for now, to the earliest origins of Eastern Jin.
Xiaowu [sic] of Western Jin's 1st Year of Taikang [280 AD], he pacified Wu, and therefore abolished Jianye建業, restoring it to be Moling. He divided off Danyang's southern commandery to be Xuancheng commandery, and returned the management to Moling, locating it 6 li south-east of the county. The crossing [?] at Changle Bridge is the ancient Danyang commandery. He used Zhou Jun as Inspector of Yang province, and under his command were 19 commanderies and 70 counties.
3rd Year of Taikang [282 AD], he divided off north of the Qinhuan River to be Jianye建鄴, south of the river became Moling county, still located on the land of the Qin town [?]. However Jianye建鄴 county is within the former capital city's Xuanyang Gate, 2 li east of the present county city, east of ancient Carriage Street.
[Emperor Hui's] 2nd Year of Tai'an, Summer, 5th Month [2 June 303 – 30 June 303], Zhang Chang, a Man of Yiyang, raised troops, titled [himself] Han, and declared it the 1st Year of Shenfeng. He sent General Shi Bing to rob Yang province, the various commanderies were fully lost. Bing following that repaired the palace of Jianye and lived there.
Note: Cao Xian's Annals of Yang province: Hui of Jin's 2nd Year of Yongning [302 AD], there was a stone [shi石] which came floating to Jianye. It entered from the Qinhuai's Xiajia Lake, and climbed the banks for more than 200 paces. Among the hundred families everyone said: “A stone comes, a stone comes. Arriving at the next year, Shi Bing as a result entered Yang province, and thereupon occupied its lands.
Winter, 12th Month [25 December 303 – 23 January 304], the General who Conquers the East, Liu Zhun, sent the General of the Right and Chancellor of Guangling, Chen Min, to cross the Jiang. He attacked and routed Shi Bing at Jianye.
2nd Year of Yongxing, 12th Month [1 January 306 – 30 January 306], Chen Min also occupied Jianye, titling himself Inspector of Yang province. He made use of Gu Rong as Intendant of Danyang, and used Gan Zhuo and Zhou Qi as Generals. Min suggested his functionaries and aides to advance him to be Duke of Chu, and added the rites of the Nine Bestowals.
At the time the Libationer to the King of Donghai, Hua Tan, heard about it. He sent a letter to Rong about Chen's rights and wrongs, telling him:
Min is a common talent without far-reaching schemes. Formerly Qi's Wang Zhu was [a commoner in] cloth clothes, still he did not bend to Yan. How much more so, Sir, when fame is heavy and rank is evident, to accept kindness from the state and yet make faction with faithless dissenters, setting each other up in official posts?
Rong received the letter and was greatly ashamed. He planned with Gan Zhuo and others, saying:
If the affairs of Jiangdong are to be achieved, [we] must complete them together. However, when observing the shape and conditions, what are they like? Min is wholly an ordinary talent, his government orders are contradictory, his sons and brothers are proud and aloof, his defeat is certain! We accepted his offices and salaries. On the day of his affairs' defeat, when they send the various armies from west of the Jiang to pack up the heads to be sent off to Luoyang, the label will say “Heads of the disobedient traitors Gu Rong and Gan Zhuo”. Is it only one person whose shame will reach ten thousand generations!
Zhuo and others considered it so. Thereupon they and Rong made plans. They dispatched messengers to secretly report to the General who Conquers the East, Liu Zhun, to cause him to lead soldiers and approach the Jiang. Min ordered his younger brother Chang to command troops and resist him, and he sent Gan Zhuo to station at Hengjiang. Gu and Qi took the opportunity of Zhuo's troops to kill Chen Chang, cut the bridge, and fully gathered the ships to the south of the Huai River. Min set out himself with the army to approach the shore of the great pontoon [?]. Rong used a feather fan to signal them, and Min's multitudes scattered and dispersed. Min fled north on a single horse, Qi and others pursued and beheaded him in Jiangbiao [lit. “the layer outside the Jiang”, i.e. the south].
Chen Min, courtesy name Lingtong, was a native of Lujiang. AS young he was able and competent, and was appointed Foreman Clerk of the Granary Section to the Masters of Writing. When the King of Zhao, Lun, usurped in rebellion, the righteous troops lacked food. They used Min as Supply Controller of Guangling to make use of water transport on the Jiang and Huai to aid the Central Provinces. During the chaos of Zhang Chang, he sent Shi Bing to hasten towards Shouchun. The Commander-in-Chief, Liu Zhun, made plans with Min to rout Bing and others, and due to his merits he was designated Chancellor of Guangling. At the time Emperor Hui moved west and the Four Regions were altogether fought over. Min thereupon had a desire for occupying Jiangdong.
Emperor Huai's 1st Year of Yongjia [307 AD], the King of Donghai, Yue, held the government.
Autumn, 7th Month [15 August – 13 September 307], he used the King of Langye, Rui, as General who Calms the East, Commander-in-Chief of the Various Army Affairs of Yang Province South of the Jiang. He employed Wang Dao's strategy, and crossed the Jiang to garrison Jianye. He chastised Chen Min's remaining partisans and cleaned up Jiangbiao. He relied on Wu's old capital city, repaired it and then lived there. The Taichu Palace became his office building.
Note: The Taichu Palace was originally the palace of Wu. Jin pacified Wu, and then afterwards when Shi Bing made chaos, it burnt down and was swept away entirely. Chen Min pacified Shi Bing and occupied Yang province. He relied on Taichu's old foundations to start constructing office buildings. When Zhongzong first crossed the Jiang, he because of that lived on this land.
He set up the office of Interior Clerk of Danyang, and used Gu Rong as Army Marshal and He Xun as Assistant Aide. Wang Dun, Wang Dao, Zhou Yi, Diao Xie, and Dai Rousi became his belly and heart, thighs and forearms. He connected with guests and visitors, was courteous to famous worthies, and inquired into and asked about manners and customs.
5th Year of Yongjia, Summer, 6th Month [3 July – 31 July 311], Liu Yao robbed Luoyang, the Imperial Capital was lost, and Emperor Huai suffered dust at Pingyang. The Minister of Works, Xun Fan, circulated a document under Heaven, pushing forward the King of Langye as master of the alliance.

so about that 9th grade ninja au...
tell me more tell me more tell me more
boy oh boy where do i begin?
so ig I should start by saying this is more of a universe fusion than strictly au. I'm borrowing elements from both series' & fusing them together. quite honestly this is probably my favorite au to work on (everybody has parents & living morro + ghost cole roomies being a close 2nd & 3rd tho).
but anyway
in this au, wu & his scrolls of wisdom take the place of the ninja nomicon. any time the ninja have a problem, he gives advice, trains them, etc. being the ninja's guide has been a mantel passed down through the fms family for generations. wu and garmadon are not on speaking terms atm due to family drama related to the whole ninja thing.
in rc9gn there's only one ninja every four years, but here that's not necessarily the case. we start out with four (technically five) ninja - cole, jay, zane and kai, all entering their senior year. wu tasks then with mentoring lloyd during his first year.
lloyd is our main protagonist! we'll be following him throughout his high-school career as the ninja of ninjago city. ofc he won't be alone - he'll have the core 4 to fall back on during his freshman year, his uncle wu, and his best friend brad - not to mention, that mysterious team samurai...
the ninja suit is tied to the great devourer instead of the tengu 100% because I want snake jay and y'all will have to pry him from my cold dead hands.
chen & clouse take the place of mcfist and viceroy as the daily menace. they keep the ninja on their toes, attempting to take them down in order to gain favor from the overlord, while major players such as the time twins, morro or harumi star as our plot driving villains.
and thats the general gist of it! I'm still plotting out the arcs but I have 2 down pretty well and a strong idea for 4 + a vague concept for 1 lol. if y'all have questions about the cast (because there is so much more), you know where the ask box is!!!

Incense burner given to Wei Qing by Emperor Wu of Han 2nd C. BCE. Shaanxi History Museum.
"Emperor Wu began to trust governing officials who were harsh in their punishment, believing that such harshness would be the most effective method to maintain social order and so placing these officials in power. For example, one such official, Yi Zong (义纵), became the governor of the Commandery of Dingxiang (part of modern Hohhot, Inner Mongolia) and executed 200 prisoners, even though they had not committed capital crimes; he then executed their friends who happened to have been visiting. In 122 BC, Liu An, the Prince of Huainan (a previously trusted adviser of Emperor Wu, and closely enough related to have imperial pretensions) and his brother Liu Ci (刘赐), the Prince of Hengshan, were accused of plotting treason. They committed suicide; their families and many alleged co-conspirators were executed. Similar action was taken against the other vassal Princes, and by the end of the reign, all the vassal kingdoms had been political and militarily disabled.
A famous wrongful execution happened in 117 BC, when the minister of agriculture Yan Yi (颜异), was falsely accused of committing a crime, though he was actually targeted because he had previously offended the emperor by opposing a plan to effectively extort double tributes out of princes and marquesses. Yan was executed for "internal defamation" of the emperor, and this caused the officials to be fearful and willing to flatter the emperor.
Starting about 113 BC, Emperor Wu began to display further signs of abusing his power. He began to incessantly tour the commanderies, initially nearby Chang'an, but later extending to much farther places, worshipping the various Gods on the way, perhaps again in search of immortality. He also had a succession of magicians whom he honoured with great things. In one case, he even made one a marquess and married his daughter, the Eldest Princess Wei, to him; that magician, Luan Da, was later exposed as a fraud and executed. Emperor Wu's expenditures on these tours and magical adventures put a great strain on the national treasury and caused difficulties on the locales that he visited, twice causing the governors of commanderies to commit suicide after they were unable to supply the emperor's entire train.
About 100 BC, due to the heavy taxation and military burdens imposed by Emperor Wu's incessant military campaigns and luxurious spending, there were many peasant revolts throughout the empire. Emperor Wu issued an edict that was intended to suppress the peasant revolts: he made officials whose commanderies saw unsuppressed peasant revolts liable with their lives. However, this edict had the exact opposite effect, since it became impossible to suppress all of the revolts, officials would merely cover up the existence of the revolts. He executed many people who made fake coins.
In 96 BC, a series of witchcraft persecutions began. Emperor Wu, who was paranoid over a nightmare of being whipped by tiny stick-wielding puppets and a sighting of a traceless assassin (possibly a hallucination), ordered extensive investigations with harsh punishments. Large numbers of people, many of them high officials, were accused of witchcraft and executed, usually along with their entire clans. The first trial began with Empress Wei Zifu's elder brother-in-law Gongsun He (公孫賀, the Prime Minister at the time) and his son Gongsun Jingsheng (公孫敬聲, also an imperial official, but arrested under corruption charges), quickly leading to the execution of their entire clan. Also caught in this disaster were Crown Prince Ju's two elder sisters Princess Yangshi (陽石公主, who was said to have a romantic relationship with her cousin Gongsun Jingsheng) and Princess Zhuyi (諸邑公主), as well as his cousin Wei Kang (衛伉, the eldest son of the deceased general Wei Qing), who were all accused of witchcraft and executed in 91 BC. These witchcraft persecutions later became intertwined in succession struggles and erupted into a major catastrophe."
"Notwithstanding the sketchy and scattered depictions in the Shiji 史 記 and the Hanshu 漢書 , this event played a significant role in the later years of Wudi’s reign. Many scholars even consider it a turning point of the Middle Western Han (202 BCE–8 CE) court policy. It cost tens of thousands of lives, including that of the Empress, the Heir Apparent, two princesses, two Chancellors, and dozens of civil officials and military officers, among hundreds of thousands of others." (Zhang Hanmo, Witchcraft and Witch-hunting in the Later Years of Emperor Wu’s Reign: A Reappraisal)
"In 94 BC, Emperor Wu's youngest son Liu Fuling was born to a favorite concubine of his, Lady Gouyi (Consort Zhao). Emperor Wu was ecstatic in having a child at such an advanced age (62 years old), and because Consort Zhao purportedly had a pregnancy that lasted 14 months (the same as the mythical Emperor Yao), he named Consort Zhao's palace gate "Gate of Yao's mother." This led to speculation that the emperor, due to his favor of Consort Zhao and Prince Fuling, wanted to make Liu Fuling the crown prince instead. While there was no evidence that he actually intended to do anything as such, over the next few years, conspiracies against Crown Prince Ju and his mother Empress Wei arose that were inspired by such rumors.
When he left the capital, the Emperor would delegate authority to Crown Prince Ju. Eventually, however, the two began to have disagreements over policy, with Ju favoring leniency and Wu's advisers (harsh and sometimes corrupt officials) urging the opposite. After Wei Qing's death in 106 BC and Gongsun He's execution, Prince Ju had no strong allies left in the government. The other officials then began to publicly defame and plot against him. Meanwhile, Emperor Wu was becoming more and more isolated, spending time with young concubines, often remaining unavailable to Ju or Wei.
Conspirators against Prince Ju included Jiang Chong (江充), the newly appointed head of secret intelligence, who had once had a run-in with Ju after arresting one of his assistants for improper use of an imperial right of way. Another conspirator was Su Wen (蘇文), chief eunuch in charge of caring for imperial concubines, who had previously made false accusations against Ju, claiming he was joyful over Wu's illness and had an adulterous relationship with one of the junior concubines.
Jiang and others made many accusations of witchcraft against important people in the Han court. Jiang and Su decided to use witchcraft as the excuse to move against Prince Ju himself. With approval from Emperor Wu who was then at the Ganquan Palace, Jiang searched through various palaces, ostensibly for witchcraft items, eventually reaching Prince Ju's and Empress Wei's palace. While completely trashing the palaces up with intensive digging, he secretly planted witchery dolls and pieces of cloth with mysterious writings. He then announced that he had found the items there during the search. Prince Ju was shocked, knowing that he was framed.
Prince Ju fled to Hu County (湖縣, in modern Sanmenxia, Henan) and took refuge in the home of a poor peasant family. Knowing that their good-hearted hosts could never afford the daily expenditure of so many people, the Prince sought help from an old friend who lived nearby. However, this move exposed their whereabouts, and he was soon tracked down by local officials eager for a reward. Surrounded by troops and seeing no chance of escape, the Prince hung himself. His two sons and the family housing them died with him after the government soldiers eventually broke into the yard and killed everyone. The two local officials who led the raid, Zhang Fuchang (張富昌) and Li Shou (李寿), wasted no time in taking the Prince's body to Chang'an to claim a reward from the emperor. Emperor Wu, although greatly saddened to hear the death of his son, had to keep his promise and rewarded the officials.
Even after Jiang Chong and Prince Ju both died, the witchhunt continued and combined with Wei Zifu's jealousy led to the execution of the Li family on accounts of treason. General Li Guangli caused unnecessary losses with his military incompetence. In 90 BC, while Li was assigned to a campaign against Xiongnu, a eunuch named Guo Rang (郭穰) exposed how Li and his political ally, Prime Minister Liu Qumao, were conspiring to use witchcraft on Emperor Wu. Liu and his family were immediately arrested and later executed.
By this time, Emperor Wu realized that the witchcraft accusations were often false accusations, especially in relation to the crown prince rebellion. In 92 BC, when Tian Qianqiu, then the superintendent of Emperor Gao's temple, wrote a report claiming that Emperor Gao told him in a dream that Prince Ju should have only been whipped at most, not killed, Emperor Wu had a revelation about what had led to his son's rebellion. He had Su burned and Jiang's family executed. He also made Tian prime minister. Although he claimed to miss Prince Ju greatly (he even built a palace and an altar for his deceased son as a sign of grief and regret), he did not at this time rectify the situation where Prince Ju's only surviving progeny, Liu Bingyi, languished in prison as a child.
With the political scene greatly changed, Emperor Wu publicly apologized to the whole nation about his past policy mistakes, a gesture known to history as the Repenting Edict of Luntai (輪台悔詔)."

yumi interacting with the other ninja? how would he?
also I love ur art ❤️
AHHH thank you for asking this anon so i can openly brainrot ahwkdhsk
adding a read more simply because i want to ramble and because i'm a little shyy and thank you so much i'm so happy people enjoy my art >//<
starting off with some info: yumi's 'elemental' power of yāojing (fairy) is influenced heavily by empathy & his OWN feelings towards things (which more or less can be helpful..? if he's empathetic enough to feel for more than himself if that makes sense)
his powers grow when he eats the livelihood (counted in years.. etc. if yumi hit a person with his elemental powers he just stole 2 years off their life hfkfjdk) and emotions of people as well.
older yumi just has different physical features (taller, around kai's height by the end? at least in my head) with gumiho features like fox ears and a pretty silky tail
kai: younger yumi was the shyest with kai.. he prob had one of those mini kid crushes on him but as yumi grew older he acknowledged kai as lloyd's older brother who he likes to tease way too much. in general they're really competitive but have a comfortable-silence kind of friendship
cole: best older brother in the world to yumi. [head in hands] first ninja to interact with yumi after wu takes in yumi first! cole p much redefined what a good older sibling is supposed to be like and yumi easily has separation anxiety from him c': in general they are super funny and unserious tgt in contrast to all the angst they probably experience..
jay: yumi loves to listen to jay's rambles but he gets the most confused/overstimulated from the lightning ninja's emotions & loudness combined. all in all despite jay using up yumi's social battery the faster, he really likes jay's versatility and love life issues (yuyu is def a romantic & resident gossip horder, which he will share with jay on the promise he doesn't spill any secrets)
zane: yumi always appreciated zane's patience and tolerability & sense in situations but similar to kai they have that sweet but silent kind of relationship! put yumi and zane together in a kitchen and some puppy eyes and suddenly dinner is all high quality meat dishes.. yumi always tries to help zane out with chores they are both avid cleaners.
nya: yumi loves nya's company. before he aged up he always went to her when yumi felt both of them being excluded from the team and she would play with yumi's hair. yumi vents to nya the easiest and he tends to go wild in his whining whenever helping the water nya fix up her mechanics. they have a really cute bond.. nya is 2nd place for best older sibling in yumi's heart
lloyd: Ahhh. where do i begin. yumi has the strongest bond with lloyd which ends up with a lot of teaming up, oblivious flirting, and craving spending time with the green ninja the most. when they were younger they were half friends half rivals (a lot of tension in general..) but yumi and lloyd are the type to like and trust each other so much that it also causes problems (ex. lloyd keeping his emotions from yumi to not burden him and yumi stubbornly pushing away lloyd to prevent becoming a weakness to him)
