I'll just go down the list and start explaining every one I know in a sentence or two.

Idk what the Otto homophobia is, probably people who think that Otto wanted to pursue a romantic relationship with Kallen and ignored the fact that she's gay. That opinion kinda misses out on all the nuance of Otto and Kallen's relationship.

Kiana flies herself to the Moon: I mean, she does. Characters do it a few times actually. Also Fly Me 2 the Moon was Mihoyo's first game and it's main character is Kiana.

The Day You Vanished with the Stars: The event that has broken everyone's hearts by making you watch the Captain try to save Kongming over and over and endlessly failing. A really good event, most people's favorite in the Captainverse.

Schicksal is the Catholic Curch: I mean that's exactly what it says. The leader is an Archbishop, the Valkyries used to dress like nuns. There are crosses everywhere and Kallen mentions that they're supposed to follow the "Good Book" a name for the Bible. They also talk about "holy" this and that and there are churches everywhere. This makes it VERY funny that Schicksal's cover story in the modern day is as a religious charity/ idol company that calls their idols Valkyries.

Unfinished stories is to general for me say anything about, I'm certain there are unfinished/abandoned plots in Honkai.

This led to plenty of people calling Rita a pedophile for being in a relationship with, even though Bianka is clearly not 16-17. It's over now, We know how old she is, 19 nearly 20.

In a previous post, I walked through a recent paper that was the first large scale genomic investigation of thylacines, talking about what we can learn from genetics, and how they went extinct on the mainland. All throughout this paper, parallels were drawn with one of the few remaining large marsupial predators of today: Tasmanian devils.

Tasmanian devils (Sarcophilus harrisii) are stockily built with raucous voices and a fierce disposition that suits their lifestyle of hunting and scavenging. Like thylacines, they once roamed the mainland. They began their path to extinction there due to the same factors of sudden, dramatic climate changes that shifted the landscape from a temperate, moist land to the hot, dry one we know today. Arrival of humans and dingoes to the mainland seemed to finish them off (1). However, they clung on - as they are want to do - in Tasmania, where not even irrational persecution could drive them out. Today they are facing daunting challenges. Foremost among them, a singularly brutal cancer.

Devil Facial Tumor Disease (DFTD) is a contagious cancer that spreads between devils through their saliva - unfortunately, devils mouth and bite each other a lot. Since it’s detection in 1996, it has spread rapidly, with devastating results: infected populations suffer heavy losses, with some declining by more than 90% in only two decades. The disease is unique to devils, and once the namesake tumors appear, the cancer becomes rapidly systemic and, ultimately, fatal. Due to the isolation of the species to Tasmania, the genetic diversity is already very low, limiting the species’ capacity to respond naturally to the disease.

Recently, we’ve made a few breakthroughs. In 2012, the entire Tasmanian devil genome was sequence. In doing so, the genes for the cancer were also identified and revealed two distinct types originating from one individual (2). Several captive populations have been established as insurance, both nationally and internationally. There have also been successful reintroduction of some captive reared devils back into the wild, on islands and even back on the Tasmanian mainland itself, a significant step in giving the species the best chance of surviving the DFTD epidemic (3). The Wild Devil Recovery project started in 2014, with aims to monitor and replenish wild populations whilst continuing monitoring of DFTD.

Excitingly, a 2016 study has found that some devils appear to be developing a genetic resistance to the cancer (4). Whilst not a complete resistance, it has great potential for helping devils survive this crisis by enabling captive populations to be selectively bred towards a more resistant genotype. The DFTD suppresses a devil’s immune system, leaving it unable to fight the infection; but the genes discovered by Epstein et al. are similar to those in other mammals that play roles in immune function and cellular communication. These genes may indicate that the devil’s immune systems are starting to develop ways to identify the cancer!

Even better, a subsequent study has demonstrated a small portion of wild devils seem to display these traits already (5). Though not strong enough to slow the spread, these are important steps forward. Last year, a study used this information to demonstrate that the cancer could be treated by taking the cancer and ‘turning on’ the genes that let the devil’s immune system recognize and fight it (6). Once injected, three of the five treated devils showed regression of their cancers, and they went on to live healthy lives. These discoveries may aid in the development of an effective immunotherapy treatment for infected individuals - in essence, allow the development of a kind of vaccine against this deadly disease. 

With ongoing research, continued management of captive populations, reintroduction schemes, and mitigation of other threats like road strikes and habitat loss, there is hope for the devil yet!

Your face flushed red in embarrassment. Impulse brought you'r fist against his head

Midoriya giggled a bit, "yeah, no. She was deffinatly a girl. You couldn't tell Kachan?"

You glared at him resentfully. He scoffs and growls looking away. He's such a.. a.. ughhhhh! You can't even decide how you feel anymore after all this time. He easily gets on your nerves in a blink of an eye and know exactly how to push your buttons. But yet it keeps you wanting more. It's never a dull moment with him as he sends you through a hell of a rollercoaster of emotion.

The thought of him always seems to keep you up at night tossing and turning not sure how your "Hero" turned out to be your worse rival. Yet all he thinks of you is 'that little boy from when we were kids'. Ughh! So infuriating!

Things need to change.. you told yourself every time, yet could never work up the courage. But today will be different. You caught him after a mission and worked up all the courage you could muster.

"AYE, Bakugo!" You called, "can we talk"

He looked a bit confused at your lack of insults when calling him over. He made his way over cautiously not used to this calm you. Your heart couldn't stop pounding and each step he took made your heart seem to beat louder until he stood just a few feet away.

Your mind went blank unsure at what to say or how or why you chose to say it. Why now? Is it okay to make the first move? You worked for this moment for days you can't give up now. You never back down from a fight yet this one thing seemed to be the kryptonite to your courage.

"Spit it out already!" He snarled

His words sparked up the courage in you to sputter out as much gibberish as you dared, "..g-go.. out.. with me.."

His face flushed red for a second and hope bubbled in your soul. The hope suddenly crashed when his expression turned to rage, "EH? What are you? An idiot?"

All the emotions and insecurities inside you swarmed together into pure rage. (What the Hell kinda repsonse is that!? I poured my all into that and that was his response!?)

"Fu*k off, I don't need your opinion!" You yelled out of rage and stormed off. You were so embarrassed anything he said after that point was drowned out by ignorance.

You couldn't believe all that effort and time spent was all for nothing. He didn't even care. He probably still thinks if you as that kid from when you were kids.

After that you avoided any chance to get closer to Bakugo. All you wanted was for things to return to normal and to forget about it all. That would never happen though.

All the time of rivalry started to weigh you down a bit. He started to win more battles and the fire started to die down a bit in you. Eventually you started hanging out more with Midoriya instead. You and Deku started doing things you and Bakugo did, just without the fighting. Becoming best pals and even texting each night to help each other train and share advice.

Eventually Bakugo became a background accessory to your life. Lessening the toll on your heart. No more fire, just coles. Even when the group hung out the competition started to fizzel out as well. Deku and you started training together at night, and he even brought you to a special beach where he first started training. On one of those nights after a long couple hours of intense training you and Deku laid under the stars. Captivated by the beauty you two began sharing deep thoughts and memories of distant childhood shenanigans.

Jin calls him over cuz Hobi's break is over and you can like,,,, physically f e e l both Yoongi and Hoseok disappointed

"Well, I'd love to talk more with you but I have to get back to work, see you around Jimin! Bye-bye Soomi!"

Gently pats Soomi's head, waves at the three of them before getting back to work

Yoongi highkey s t a r i n g cuz Hobi is literally fucking g l o w i n g

"Having fun there Yoongi?"

"Who the hell was that and why is he literally shining ??"

Both Jimin and Soomi are giggling while they get ready to leave and Soomi exclaims v e r y loudly

"Dad has a crush, Jiminie! Did you see the way he loo—"

Yoongi picking her up and almost sprinting out of the damn cafe with Jimin laughing his ass off behind him

literature teacher wonu, orchestra teacher joshua, and intro to dance teacher soonyoung recommended Jihoon to the principal and with his track record he was s E T

so, first day of school when the students piled into his, not decorated at all, choir room they were sh 0o k.

after a good week, they respect him. they fear him, he made a student cry (accidentally) by making the entire choir stop singing to talk about how being off tune will bring down the entire score at competition (he wasn’t even singling the person out)

“okay, competition is in 3 weeks today guys. i know it’s difficult but we’ve gone over this part so many times now, so whoever is off tune please realize your mistakes and fix that so we don’t get points taken off for something so simple fixed.” *kim runs out of the room crying* “jennifer please go take care of that”

somehow from then to the end of the school year no one ever sings a cent off tune ever again

auditions didn’t go as well as you were planning, the acting was amazing as you expected from your students so was the dancing... but the vocal talent was l a ck ing. so who do you go to ? obviously!! you don’t go anywhere because you were terrified of going to talk to jihoon who you had a crush on since the first day of teacher camp over the summer wait what hu H

soonyoung was like “we need to do something about this y/n, why don’t we ask jihoon? we could talk to him, i’ve been friends since high school”

your heart does a leap in your chest, we talk? ! ? but you wanted to win the high school musical competition (you’ve done it multiple years in a row at your old school, you were determined to do it here as well)

so push comes to shove, you were in the bare choir room that was empty aside from the classical music playing through a speaker somewhere in the room

you took a deep breath in and knocked on the door frame, since the door was open but he had his back turned towards you. once he heard your knock the (tenth) third time, he spun around in his spinny chair and almost fell out bc did an angel just walk into the room omg

“yes?”

“you’re jihoon right? uh soonyoung sent me bc we need help with the musical”

“tell soonyoung to go fu- you said we?”

“yeah, i’m directing and he’s choreographing and w e need help with the vocals, our actors aren’t up to par of where we need them.”

usually jihoon would tell the person to go away, bc he isn’t some charity to give help to whoever asks, but for some reason he !! just !! couldn’t !! say !! no !! to !! you !! (curse you soonyoung for sending a literal angel his way) so as he was trying to say he had no time to- somehow a yeah sure when do you want me to train them came out of his mouth.

and that’s how a friendship between you two blossomed ( even tho you two strictly told your friends and students who were super nosy that it was just a friendship everyone is like ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) “sure miss. y/l/n. sure it is”

and it was !!! for the most part bc you two could not come to terms with each of your own feelings

then when tech week came you were S T R E S S E D bc

 1. 3/4 of your techies were very very very new to all of this and currently is being taught by one of the old techies who considered quitting during this week 

2. one of your leads has the flu and spread it to his co-actress (so it’s flu central)

3. THE ENSEMBLE DID NOT KNOW ANY OF THEIR LINES AND WHY DO THEY LOOK SO DEAD ON STAGE PLS LIVEN UP CHILDREN IM CRYIN g

so you cancel rehearsal on your end (soonyoung actually asks for everyone to stay to have a chat with them) and run to jihoon’s office with tears running down your face

he sadly was out of the room to make some copies of the music, but when he returned he was !!!!!!!!!

“y/n omg what happened? are you okay???”

“i want to quit my job.” you cried due to stress. you loved your job, you didnt want to quit it was just so many things were happening at once and you wanted to crawl into a hole and cry

“n O !” “i mean.. you shouldn’t, i know this week is the hardest week for directors. mingyu tells me about it all the time with his kids over at *insert another high school* you’re strong y/n!!! you can do this!!!” he even did aegyo for you and it did help cheer you up

and you did get through this with multiple hugs from jihoon and soonyoung talking to the kids and telling them to have fun, bc they obviously were just doing this at this point as a routine

and it worked. it totally worked and the show was a H I T. it was such a hit the show had a nomination in every category from best overall to best ensemble to best small prop in the corner during act 2 scene 5.

and when you saw the nomination list, you ran down the hall from the auditorium to jihoon’s classroom (who he was currently scolding women’s choir for being distracted) (they were totally talkign about how he looks at you while you two were speaking in the hallway)

*BOOM* you slam the door open and he instantly lightens up and smiles (spawn of satan jihoon exits the room) !!!

“ W e  GOT A NOMINATION IN EVERY CATEGORY THANKS TO YOU JIHOONNNNIEEEEEE” 

“did miss. y/l/n call mr. lee ‘jihoonie’ ?”

he’s ecstatic to see you so happy which causes very ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) faces throughout the choir

the night of the award ceremony comes, there are over 500 people in that orpheum theatre all hoping that they win some award of some sort.

you were just sitting with jihoon and soonyoung trying to stay calm, you even already pick your representatives within the cast to go get the awards to save looking like a fool trying to find a rep last minute.

then it came to the moment everyone was waiting for, your show had won most of the awards of the night already but there was one category you wanted the most to set the night, best small prop in the corner during act 2 scene 5 overall musical.

you were so nervous, but soonyoung gave you that look that L O O K that you both knew what it meant (we won)

and the look was right, you did. “from Serenity Rose High School, *insert a good musical bc im too tired to name one* wins best overall for this years High School Musical Awards!”

you were jumping, you were screaming and crying and suddenly your lips were connected with jihoon’s

even though jihoon wouldn’t be very into pda, he’d do it when it was only you two alone (very alone no students, no teachers, no one just you and him)

he’d always be there when you are stressed and he’d provide hugs and soft singing to calm you down, and you would always be there for him bc he sometimes needs to be reminded of the time so he can leave the school at a reasonable time like JIHOON OMG IT’S 9PM WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE?!!?

“i just wanted to pick out new music for next semester”

3 Days (Part 1 & 2/??)

Mun Note : This is not an AU.  This is the initial thought process of Anthem’s life when he was first created.  It is almost three years old now and I still have not finished.  I should probably go back and finish it at some point, and I probably will, but I want to make sure that it’s somewhere I can find it in case I need it.

As the burlap sack was ripped from over his head, the light, even as low as it appeared, was harsh to Anthem’s eyes. The past few hours he had been immersed in complete and utter darkness, the only sounds audible a few neighs of a horse and the hustle and shuffle of whoever his captors were shoving him into this now somewhat lit room.

There was a primitive bed made of hay which caught his eye. Mainly because if this was meant to be a prison of sorts for him, the fact that they cared enough to find hay for him to sleep on? It seemed a bit out of the oridnary. Also, it seemed big enough for two people. Another thing that struck the Prince of Huangshan as weird. Or at least, it was weird until the door opened again and another body tumbled to the ground.

“Bai Lin Gong Fu?” Anthems voice cracked, his throat dry. He needed water. It had been hours since he’d had anything to eat or drink.

The man that lay in a heap before him was another Prince. Anthem only recognized them because of the crest emblazoned on their shirt. The kingdom of Zheng He, where Bai Lin Gong Fu came from, was a small one, but the land they did own was rich in farm soil, never seeming to be out of season for whatever it was they planted. Their land was revered and envied by many. Perhaps that’s why the other Prince had been kidnapped.

It would make sense, seeing as Anthem’s kingdom, while not as rich in fertile soil, had an abundance of livestock and mines that provided work for many people. Not only did they help citizens find ways to survive, the King himself was a generous man who believed that his people should be cared for and sheltered as long as they helped maintain a peaceful atmosphere. This kindness made the kingdom on Huangshan most prosperous and in turn, the wealthiest one within 5 provinces. Followed only by…Zheng He.

Bai Lin Gong Fu looked up at the other prince, his face full of pain. “Krisanthemum of Huangshan? What is this?! Have you..” The boy - because yes, he was a boy, only seventeen years of age, not that much younger than Krisanthemum’s 22 years, but still younger - looked around in horror, crawling to a corner and settling in with his back to it. “is this a trick of sorts? Why are you here? Why am I here?”

Anthem didn’t know what to say. This was nothing his kingdom had done, but the fear in Bai Lin Gong Fu’s eyes relayed that anything Anthem could come up with would be taken as a lie. He decided to try anyway though. “I am not sure what’s happening. I was out for a ride yesterday and just before I made my way back to the castle gates, my horse was spooked. I fell and when I woke I was bound, in the back of a wagon. I can’t use my magic,” He looked down at his wrists, two bands wrapped around them. Obviously something to hinder his skill of teleportation. “I got here mere moments before you did. If this is a trick, it is a horrible one and someone..” Anthem looked about, surveying the room. “will pay for this dearly.”

“It is no trick, Prince Krisanthemum of Huangshan.” A voice came from the shadows, dripping with menace. “Prince Bai Lin Gong Fu of Zheng He. I am of a small sect of people who feel as though the people should be free of the tyrannical rule of your parents. So.. we’ve brought you both here to… make some decisions for us. You have three days to make that decision though. Only three.”

A knife was tossed to the floor from where the owner of the voice concealed themselves.

“Each of you have now been given a weapon, do with it what you will. Take your own life or fight to the death. Either way, we leave it up to you. Your parents will never find you, and to try to escape would be pointless. Bai Lin Gong Fu is the only child of his kingdom and you’re next in line for the throne of yours. A pity we couldn’t get your two younger brothers as well, Krisanthemum… but if we dispatch of you, it will be the beginning of the end for your family. As for Zheng He? The loss of their only heir will ruin the King and Queen.” There was a snort from the shadow man. “Now, take your weapon and make the decision. We will return in the morning to see what has happened.”

Footsteps wandered away and the two Princes were left to stare at the knife. Bai Lin Gong Fu reacted first, scrambling forward to snatch up weapon. Anthem wasn’t very much so concerned with it, he knew he could overpower the frail looking Prince of Zheng He if it came down to it, so he stood his ground, watching as Bai Lin Gong Fu stared him down.

“I..I’m n-not gonna k-kill myself, so I.. I h-have to k-kill you. I.. I’m s-sorry Krisanthemum.” Anthem turned to look at the other prince. His dark hair hung in his face, his hair ties had probably fallen out when he was kidnapped. Tear stains streaked along his red cheeks and Bai Lin Gong Fu’s voice was breaking as if he were finally going through the change to adulthood, but Anthem knew it was just the fear that seemed to be wracking the young man’s body. “Pl-please don’t h-hate me.”

“Bai Lin…” Anthem shook his head. “First off, has anyone ever told you that your name is far too long? I’m going to just stick to Bai Lin if that’s alright with you?” The boy just sniffled more. “Okay well then. Bai Lin, you’re not going to kill me. I’m not going to kill you. We’ll survive. Have no fear, please? I promise you, that we will survive this. Chances are, both our families are already searching for us and if not? We’re both young and resourceful. I’m not sure about you, but I’ve got years of training under my belt. We’ll be fine, please trust me on this?”

The smaller prince once again shook his head, hair flying about. “N-no! Y-you probably set this up!”

“I assure you I did not. What do you think you’re doing?” Bai Lin had taken a few steps forward, the knife held at an awkward angle. “That’s not even how you come at someone. So if you plan on killing me, child. At least..” Anthem tilted his head, a quick crack of his neck filling the room. He closed the space between himself and Bai Lin, taking a hold of the child’s wrist without much effort. “hold the blasted thing properly. Keep your wrist firm. Don’t hestitate. If you show weakness like you are right now, you’ll never win when it comes to fighting on the battlefield. I’ve only been in one scenario, and it was a scuffle amongst thieves and my father’s guard, but if I had behaved the way you are? Well, it wouldn’t be me stuck here with you.”

Releasing Bai Lin, Anthem made his way over to the makeshift bed, settling down into the hay. “Now, stop crying. If you plan on killing me, making all that noise won’t help you. I’m going to sit here and try to think of a way out of this. The sun is starting to set, so they wasted a good bit of time bringing us here. Day one of their three days is clearly almost over. Look behind you, you can see the shadows as the sliver of light coming into this room shifts.”

The hay was warm, which indicated that someone else has been in this room prior to them. Or it could have been an animal for all Anthem knew, but it made him wonder how far from civilization they were if the room were of such an amiable temperature. The room certainly wasn’t much of anything, probably a spare storage facility on someone’s farm, one that had been taken over by the riff raff who had taken them hostage.

“K..krisanthemum?” Bai Lin looked as if he were defeated, the knife still held tightly in his hand, but all spirit seemingly gone from his small form. “I’m c-cold.”

“You can come over here. I meant it. You have my word that I will not harm you while we’re here. You’ve done nothing to harm me on purpose and the circumstance we’re in is forgivable.” His voice came out in a hushed tone, his throat still somewhat raw. Anthem needed water. Hours had passed and he’d yet to even look around the room for some. “Come lay in the hay while I search for something for us to eat or drink. There might be left overs from whatever creature was here to begin with.”

Bai Lin nodded, slowly moving to rest in the hay as Anthem set about to examine the room. Not that there was much to the room. It was mostly oval in shape, again reaffirming to Anthem that it was a storage facility before hand. It was large enough to fit a good amount of people in it, maybe a group of twenty at the most, so in turn, it could have housed at least 5 cows. Which seemed plausible from the smell closer to what had probably been an open wall before it had been closed off to create this cell they were now stuck in.

“Stop calling me by my full name.” Now Anthem was just talking to keep himself occupied as he searched. “Call me Anthem or don’t call me at all, but when you whimper my full name like that, I feel as if I’ve done something wrong and I’m being chastised by my sisters. Aha! There we go…”

A trough was set up against the farthest wall, water dripping into it from a crevice above. While it possibly wasn’t the best water for them to drink, it was all they had at the moment. With utmost haste, the Prince of Huangshan cupped his hands together and collected some of the dripping water to drink. It tasted fresh, so perhaps the building was actually built against a mountain, if so, that would explain why the water was dribbling down into the building. Snowcaps melted in the sun during the day and made their way down the mountainside to form fresh water springs. So that meant their captors had brought them somewhere into the woods, but to a place where they could survive away from others.

“Bai Lin, come over here. Drink up so that you don’t get dehydra—” Anthem turned to motion his cellmate over, met with a knife to his side. “What do you think you’re doing?”

“Y-you let your guard down. J-just because I’m young doesn’t mean I c-can’t take care of myself.” Bai Lin had pushed his hair from his face at this point, but there was something in his eyes that seemed a bit off. His teeth were pushed so far into his bottom lip that Anthem could see blood blooming beneath the surface and the young man’s shoulders were shaking so violently that the knife actually ripped at Anthem’s shirt, stretching the material out.

“My mother is going to be incredibly upset that this has a hole in it. I also told you, you’re holding the knife too limply. If you’re going to try to kill me… ” Anthem shifted his weight, grabbing the knife. Once he had it snatched away from Bai Lin, Anthem quickly grabbed at the boys wrist with his free hand, forcing him to turn around. It only took a few more steps and Anthem has his chest pressed to Bai Lin’s back, Bai Lin’s own knife held to the younger prince’s throat. “You have to hold the knife with a tighter wrist, like this. Now, stop with this madness, you fool. Drink the water and this?” He held the knife out, wiggling it. “You’re not allowed to play with sharp objects anymore. And to show you that I’m put out with how you’ve treated me, I’m going to rip your shirt like you ripped mine.”

“N-n-no!” Bai Lin began to struggle, sputtering and wiggling as best as his small form could. “No! I-I’m sorry! I’m sorry! P-please don’t!” Small hands swatted at Anthem to no avail, crying out in horror as the knife sliced through the shirt, revealing white cloth binding his chest tightly. Even with the binding though, Anthem could see a slight swell of breasts.“No! No! Papa says no one can see! No one can see, you can’t look!”

“Bai…Lin…” Anthem let the other go quickly, his face full of shock, ears red and the realization of what he was looking at. “A-are you a girl?”

Bai Lin Gong Fu, the only son of Zheng He. Bai Lin Gong Fu, the heir to the throne. Bai Lin Gong Fu, not a Prince at all, but a Princess.

“Don’t look!” He, no she, scrambled back to the hay pile, curling up as if she’d been struck. “You might as well kill me now, I can’t go home. Papa said if anyone ever found out, I’d be sold to travelers. How could you do this to me Krisanthemum!? I can’t go home now, so please, please, please… just…” Her words trailed off as she began to cry.

“How? All these years and.. you’ve been a girl your whole life?”

That was a stupid question, even Anthem knew that. What a ruse that the kingdom of Zheng He had played on everyone all these years. However, looking back, there were signs. They claimed Bai Lin Gong Fu had poor health and could not participate in sports. They never let Bai Lin Gong Fu join the men on hunts either, again due to health reasons. Bai Lin Gong Fu seemed to enjoy balls and banquets far more than the other Princes.

“You… you’re a girl.”

“Shut up! Stop talking about it. I’m not a girl. I’m not. I’m a boy. The only boy. I’m the crowned Prince of Zheng He and no one, no one will ever learn otherwise. No one!” The tremble of her words made him cringe. As if one of his own sisters were upset and he couldn’t fix it.

Her voice. Her voice was another give away. Bai Lin had always sounded different. Bai Lin’s mannerisms as well. In fact, Anthem’s own mother had once commented that with the right amount of make-up Bai Lin would make a prettier Princess than a Prince. If only she had known how right she would be.

Anthem was gobsmacked. Kidnapped. His magic stripped from him. A strange man telling him that he either must kill himself or someone else to live and to find out the neighboring kingdom’s Prince is actually a Princess? Not even storytellers could come up with tales as grand as this, he was sure of it.

His stomach ached now and he felt as if he’d done the unspeakable by exposing Bai Lin’s secret. He wasn’t even sure if he could ever remedy what had happened, but he could try. Anthem began by slipping his shirt off, making his way back to where the Princess lay crying. “Take this and cover up. I’m sorry. I… you understand I was of the sound mind that you were male like me. If I had known, I never would have.”

“No one was supposed to know!” She sniffled, taking the shirt and tugging it on quickly. “And you cannot tell anyone, ever. EVER! Papa says no one would want a King who can’t produce a male heir, so I have to pretend. I have to. Just until Mama and Papa can have a real son. That’s all. That’s all. Papa promised. He tells me all the time how proud he is of me for behaving. For going through all this to help the people of Zheng He. It’s all for the people Kr…” She coughed, “Anthem. Mama has lost so many babies. So many. I almost died as a child too! Papa asked the ancestors to rescue me and they did, so it’s the least I can do for him. Please, please.. Please..” Her hands curled into fists and she held them close to her chest, tears streaming down her face once again.

It pained Anthem to see her like this, and while she was not one of his sisters, he shifted closer, dropping down to sit next to her, his words aimed to be soothing just as if she were. “I swear to you, no one will find out. I would die before sharing the secret your family harbors. Look, I’ll…” He pulled the knife from his waistband, slicing it along his palm. It wasn’t a deep cut, but it was enough that blood pooled in his palm, at which point Anthem held his hand to his chest, just over his heart. “A promise made in blood. I can’t go back on my word now. I will keep your secret and I will make sure that we both survive this ordeal. Now sleep. I will keep watch over you. Have no fear of tonight, nor tomorrow.”

It seemed an eternity until he received an answer from her, but when he did it was in the form of a sniffle followed by mumbled, “Thank you,” Bai Lin’s breathing finally calming down, the tears ceasing, replaced by a soft snore as sleep finally claimed her.

 Anthem’s brain had been chastising him for about six to seven hours.  Or perhaps he just assumed it was his brain when it was really the lack of sleep settling in.  His mind wandered to the edge of insanity, time after time after time, only meandering back to laugh at him for not realizing that Bai Lin was a girl.

    "Fool!“ it screamed as it toddled back and forth between his ears.  ”It’s clear that she is a female.  All you had to do was look further than your own nose and it would have been like the sun shining in your face.“

    ”Those are not the curves of a young man.“ His brain had a point.  

    ”That is not the skin of a warrior.“ Again, point notated.

    ”Chances are, every kingdom knows the secret of Zheng He.  They just play their parts, as have you your whole life.  See what you are told to see.  The kings and queens speak of her as a prince, so a prince is what you see.  The kings and queens speak of her as a boy, so a boy is what she is to you.  But look at her, Krisanthemum of Huangshan, look!  She is indeed all female.“

    He would have poked his eardrums out, but the noise would not have stopped.  He would have poked his eyeballs out, but he could not unsee what had happened the night before.

    Even now, as Bai Lin slept soundly, her smaller form wrapped up in Anthem’s shirt, he could see how his brain was right.  There were curves that could have never gone unnoticed.  That must have been why she never dressed as the other princes.  Her garments always appeared you be two sizes too large.  Most of the other royal children just assumed that was Bai Lin’s style: frumpy.  

    The porcelain tint of her skin was far from that of a boy made to learn out in the sun.  It was care and love lavished upon a daughter by a mother, and a castle full of housemaids who obviously knew the truth.  They also knew that someday the prince would be allowed to live as a princess, so extra care was taken to maintain a soft and youthful appearance.

    Bai Lin didn’t even smell like a man.   Not that Anthem was trying to sniff her or anything.  But there wasn’t much else to the room nor was there a lot of space between the two of them.  As he kept his place by the bedside, his new role of bodyguard being put to the test, he didn’t have much to do but breathe in.  

 It was a sweet smell.  Like a mixture between the smell of brown sugar as it was warmed on the stovetop and the way melon smelled once it was broken open and served for a summer treat.  A mellow kind of fragrance, but with a little extra hiding within.

"Okay… time to stop.”

    His words this time were vocal, his mouth finally taking over from his brain.  However, in his haste, he had shifted from his seat as well, jostling the young princess awake.  Her grunts caught Anthem’s attention and he tried to ease her, shushing and doing things he normally did when his youngest sister was woken up unexpectedly.  "It’s alright, close your eyes.  There’s nothing to worry about.  There was… a bug.  It bit me.  I was startled is all.  No need for you to worry, Bai Lin.  Try to sleep until our captors come to call again.“

    What a horrible lie, he thought to himself.

    "What a horrible lie.” Apparently Bai Lin also thought so.  

    Her small eyes opened slowly, fingers reaching up to wipe away the sand left behind from sleep. “I can tell.  Your voice is changing in tone, like you’re trying to lull a child back to sleep.  I’m not a child.  Or rather, I am, but I’m not.  Please do not speak to me like I’m a suckling child searching for its mother’s teat.”  

 “You’re not speaking the same way you did yesterday.  I would much prefer to hear the harsher words from yesterday.  By the way, I-I’m sorry about what happened.  Almost any o-other prince would have most likely dispatched of me and sent me to live with my ancestors.  I-I’m still scared, b-but you….” She took a breath, sitting up.  "you’ve always been a little different from the others.“

  Looking back at her, he wasn’t sure if that was a compliment or  a subtle jab.  Nor was he going to ask her to elaborate on the subject.  Instead, he just nodded dumbly, standing from the bed and walking over to the water dripping down the wall.  It was easy to get a drink from, his hands cupped beneath the small stream steadily coming in from the mountain.  "I wonder if we’re far from both our kingdoms or if we’re somewhere between.  I think we’re between, but really, I shouldn’t assume.”

    When no answer came, he figured it was easiest to carry on his rambling.  What better way to avoid the awkward than to, well, avoid it? A sharp intake of breath and Anthem was prepared to begin spouting more words when a small hand tapped at his back.

    "Krisanthemum, please believe me when I say that I-I’m sorry this happened.“

    "None of it is your fault.  Please do not feel as if you need to continue to apologize to me.  I am the one who should forever be apologizing to you.  If I had been aware of what lay beneath your shirt, I never would have…” Hello awkward, you’ve come back to visit us, haven’t you? Anthem’s mind began racing again, his brows knitting together.

    "As I said before, your secret is safe, no one will learn from me the secret of Zheng He.  And we would do our best to not discuss it anymore.“ Shaking the water from his hands, he motions towards the empty space in the room.  "There could be someone outside listening.”

    Bai Lin’s face shifted into an expression of fear.  Quickly Anthem shook his head to soothe her.   “I doubt it, as I’ve not heard movement at all since last night.  No guard change.  No guards at all honestly.  I think the are of the mindset that with my teleportation powers hindered, we are no threat to them at all.”

    Speaking of abilities.  "Bai Lin, do you have any abilities of your own?  Something that they might have tried to stop you from using?  I must admit, I know almost nothing of your families bloodline aside from rumors of healing skills.“

    "That…” Her voice fell into a hush, “is mother.  I do not have that skill.  I have a different one that only a few trusted people in our castle know.  There is a black band around my ankle, much like the ones around your hands, so someone close to my parents has had a hand in this.  My magic is also hindered.  Magic that could have gotten us free quite easily.”

    She had answered him without truly answering.  Now he knew she possessed a skill, but she had completely omitted what it which made him curious.  But if he aimed to pry it from her against her will, would she tell him the truth?  Probably not.  "Is it something you inherited from your father then?  My teleportation did not come from either of my parents, it came from somewhere back in the blood line.  I’m the first member of the family to have it in 3 generations.

    Bai Lin smiled at his words. “You sound as if you’re trying to impress me, prince.  W-will you be treating me much differently now that you know the grand secret of my people?  I.. don’t want to be treated too differently.  I-I’m still me.  I’m just… not a prince.”

    "Because of that though, I must treat you differently.“ He motioned her to the wall.  "Come, drink.  We might not have food, but you should at least drink what you can.  Lay back down to rest, I’ll try to figure out a plan.  One has actually been forming in my head since last night.”

    "Oh?“ She stepped closer to the water, drinking some herself before trying to make him elaborate.  "You did not sleep last night?”

    "No.  I made sure that no one came to kill us as we, er, well you, slept.  That’s how I know that there were no guards.“ His smile is fleeting, but Anthem wants to keep Bai Lin comfortable, so he flashes one here and there.  "I tried to remove my bindings with the knife, but it is also enchanted through some sort of spell, it would not cut them no matter how I tried.  So we must try something else.  This plan that I thought of?  This plan will only work if we make it very believable.  But if we do something wrong, it will end horribly.”

    The princess of Zheng He looked at him with a puzzled expression.  "What kind of plan might this be?“

    "Quite simple, really.” Anthem bit at his lip.  "You’re going to kill me.“

As every year, let's start! What sculpt do you wish you could see more owner photos of?

- BuddyDoll dolls in general. I know the factory died long ago but I still find them to be the most special sculpts for me. And the few there are are owned by Russian artists in the majority it's not easy to find any picture at all nowadays

Do people choose names for their dolls and characters the dolls are based on and then check excessively to see if anyone is already using the name? Are they bothered if they find other dolls having the same name?

- Personally I'm not. I come up with a name, I never give a single fu*k if anyone else it's using that name. I bet there is a thousand if not more humans using "my name" and I'm not obsessed by it so why should be obsessed about my dolls names..?

What company do you wish were more popular? What company do you wish were less popular? Why?

- I will say BuddyDoll again but since they're closed, I'll go for Obitsu, the big ones, are exactly the same as any other Vinyl ball jointed doll like DollfieDream or SmartDoll but people somehow hates them, I never knew why... And I wish SmartDolls weren't so popular, me, personally, fell like cheated, Danny C. was supposed to give us "the next step on doll evolution", a robotic doll you can command trough an app in your smartphone, and then he reconsidered the cost of production and ended up giving us 'anime flat faced characters' who are ALL ""Mirai with the exact same clothing"" (almost), and for some unknown reason people praise him like if he had invented something marvelous. Wellp, he didn't, he just made another version of DollfieDream but uglier and less imaginative, not the "dolly robot" he promise, and the reason why his brand was called SMART-DOLL to begin with.

Based on the characters written, out of your dolls, your friends’ dolls or even other owners’ dollies, which doll would you most like to be friends with? And which doll is most likely to be your mortal enemy?

- My, this is a good one, since I have a saga of published books about my dolls histories and their character I know them all very deeply and I can say for sure, "Star" will be the one to most likely becoming my friend since he's pretty much like me in many ways, intolerant, nasty for fun, sarcastic, unpredictable, every mistake I have he have almost the same so there will be a problematic friendship but surely we will remain friends for a lifetime. And "Lily" will most possibly be my sort of "mortal enemy" since she is so vain and thinks so high of herself as a doll that this will continuously might generate 'girl cat-fights' over the smallest things.

What’s the longest you’ve waited for a doll to arrive? What’s the shortest?

- Longest?, MOC (mint-on-card), their costumer service sucks and they're rude and they threat you with cancel your order after months of waiting if they don't like where you live even though they had previously told you they had no problem shipping there. It took over 8 months to get Star his own proper body since I wanted a very specific 'over-articulated' body from a specific company who wasn't selling if not trough agents and MOC was the only-one who accepted to ship internationally so I had to suck it and wait while they insulted me over months and months, the final insult, supposedly "extra hands" they had to send me, they send me a pair of hands doing the fu*k you, yes, they ultimately gave me the middle finger on resin. I still have the hands, no idea what to do with them actually... - The shortest?, easy, a week from paid to product arrival. From recaster S/L (China BJD).

Do you like to sew for your dolls? Where do you usually get your fabric?

- I HATE to sew for everyone and everything. Is not like I "can't", is literally, I HATE IT. And when I do have to sew because I don't have any other choice I find fabric in the most weird places. Never online, I live on a "clothing factory district" so I can buy my fabrics here or even real clothing for humans on sale and use the fabric I need from there (since dolls are smaller than humans a t-shirt for a human will have enough fabric for a doll t-shirt for sure).

Do you like to create things for your dolls, be it clothes, wigs, accessories, ect? If so, what?

- As previously stated I do hate to create clothing items, and shoes. I avoid it as much as I can, but I love to make eyes, doll heads, bodies, wigs (fur or fiber), jewelry, and sometimes even props... (though I don't use them much).

If you have pets, do you let them near your dolls? How do they feel about your dolls?

- I have (currently) 3 cats. I let them near my dolls under my strict supervision. One of them wants to steal Star's bed and sleeps on his lap every time he can, but I doubt Star will like that and it might be even a danger for the animal if Star long fingernails break so I never actually let him do so. the other two cats, one ignores my dolls as he ignores humans too, and the lat one it's too curious and can't stay put for a second so he usually just smell my dolls and move on to the next shinny thing.

Is there any character of yours that you wouldn’t want to get as a doll? Why?

- Pfff, hard one here, now that I think of it....... mmm....... no, I don't think I have any character that's a "NOPE" if it comes as a present.... Why?, well, maybe because I only relate the dolls to the characters I make and whatever I hate from them, is in some sense a "part of me", so I can live even with the parts of me I don't like. It's called self-esteem. - Plus, I have Lily, and it's my less favorite character so.... right now I can't think of any. Sorry.

Has anyone ever broken one of your dolls? How did you feel? How did they react?

- By the time I started with BJDs I had already had a lot of "bad experiences with assholes/friends coming home and breaking stuff". The one I remember the most right now, was my best friend (at that time) taking a very rare/expensive/hard-to-get "Kaiyodo Evangelion Eva 05 figure" back in the 90's, and detaching the legs...then he lol'd about it...........that guy now lives 12 hours away, in another continent. Problem solved.

Where do you like to get your supplies? (Elastic, eye puddy, ect.)

- At first (since I didn't knew any better) was all online, the imports on my country are/where expensive but we didn't had all the stupid regulations we have now. Nowadays I tend to actually use my head and look for the stuff I need where I can buy it directly on a real (physical) store around the corner, so I always have a lot of supplies at had. You just need to know what you need and where they sell it. It's not that hard and much more fun.

If you could have a doll of any fandom character, who would you get and why?

- I think Sephiroth from “Final Fantasy VII” series. Thus his armor (specially the shoulder plates) are a pain in the arse'... I did had one of my dolls customized to be him but ultimately ended up using the doll for a character on my book and giving him, a more 'easy to deal with' clothing.

Where is your favorite place to host your doll photos? What other places do you like to share them?

- Mainly DeviantArt, but I also use Tumblr and FB (sometimes). I tend to change over the years but this are the sites I use almost all the time.

What type of camera do you use? What about light set up?

- I hate photography almost as much as sewing clothing items. Sorry.

Where do you usually buy your eyes from? Do you prefer glass, acrylic, urethane, ect?

- I buy my eyes everywhere I can and I do actually prefer glass eyes.

What is the best deal you’ve ever been able to score (be it direct from a doll company, an etsy store, the second-hand market, etc.)?

- Recast from S/L. Purchased 3 1/3 SD dolls and got a mini and a 1/4 for free. + their respective eyes.

Face up artists: What were some things you struggled with when you first began face-ups, vs. things you struggle with now? How do your first face-ups compare to your more recent ones?

- When I first began faceups the most common mistake where the eyebrows, now I don't think I struggle too much about anything anymore... practice do make the master.

What color resin is most of your crew? What color resin is your favorite? What color would you like to get next or in the future?

- Most of my crew it's Normal Yellow, but I have all sort of colors, Tans, blue, white, grey, pink, even Glow in the dark resin... it all depends on the sculpt and the character I'm making.

Do any of your dolls celebrate a holiday other than Christmas?

- Guest you could say Star celebrates his birthday (the day he was order) as a reminder of how I started in this hobby and how long I've being up with this until today.

If you could change one of your dolls into an outfit that isn’t their aesthetic (aka pastel lolita into gothic punk, bad boy into nerdy jock), who would you choose and why? (Also, would they go along with it, or would they protest?)

- I think "Wind" will make a good dark Gothic "something", since he is (as a character) continuously changing his look in search of "who he is" don't think his character will mind neither...

Have you ever bought through Taobao? If so, what did you get, and how did it go?

- Yes, dolls items and dolls, it went perfect. Thank you very much.

Do any of your dolls have a ‘theme song’?

- Star does. It's the song "Iris" from "GooGoo Dolls".

Are any of your dolls more popular than other ones when it comes to likes, reblogs, ect? Are any of them less popular?

- I never notice about "my dolls popularity". I'm not in high-school anymore. And to be honest I gave a sh*t even when I was on high-school so... I'm a very happy outcast, so are my dolls.

If you have more than one doll, how are they connected? Are they from the same story line? If not, do you think they’d still get along?

- All my dolls are connected, all share the same universe and are tied to the events of their main story depicted on my books. Some get along better than others like in real life real people would.

Do you ever smoke (cigarettes, cannabis, ect.) around your dolls? If so, do you worry about the smell? If not, would it bother you if others did?

- I don't smoke. It kinda' bothers me the smell of cigarettes on anything (-or "dirty/wet dog smell", that is on my top ten list of smells I don't want EVER smell again on my LIFE-), but I've learn to live with it since my dad it's a heavy smoker so his belongings always smell like cigarettes... As long as it's not on MY dolls your doll can smell however you prefer and I have no reason to get mad at anyone for it. It's not my doll. Period.

What are your favorite places to hang out within the community? Do you like a specific forum, or fb group?

- I think the community sucks all the joy out of this hobby. I have decades of experience on this community and other fandom related communities and let me tell you, is not worth it. It's a drama over another drama over ANOTHER drama... sooner or later you will be in the center of a hurricane and you won't know what the hell just hapend.

Tell me about your dolls personality! If you have more than one doll, pick a few of your favs! I’d love to know all about them. ^^

- All of my dolls are intertwined into a main story. There are a lot of characters each with an unique story and motivation. I can't really resume their lives as OC's here, but if you like you can read my book. Main characters personalities are a bit like: Star (selfish, unpredictable, values his freedom over most things but it's not an idealistic guy, sarcastic and acid, oftenly apathetic), Doc (curious, loving, gentle and smart but a bit bitter at times), Max (strong, intimidating, never let's his emotions out unless necessary, manly and quiet, can't stand being a slave or other weaker dolls), Swan (smart, fierce, beautiful despite her defects, courageous, stubborn), Angel (distant, quiet, very powerful, mysterious), Pax (strong and kind to others, particularly the weakest ones or the ones in need, honorable and a very good person/doll, values everyone's lives above his own), Night (agile, not as fast as Star but still a skillful doll, very sociable and likes to joke around), Light (serious for his age, tends to be taking care of Night and considers him his brother although they are not related, very loyal), and so on...

Are any of your dolls in a relationship, or married? Do they have any children?

- Spoiler Alert. Yes. Not going to point fingers at them.

What’s your grail doll? (’Grail’ can be interpenetrated any way you desire.)

- I don't really know.... I'm still waiting on a strong actually BIG and not "soom ridiculously thin legs" centaur, like SoulDoll Chiron kinda' centaur, 70 fucking centimeters for real, bad side is that much resin is not something the companies are willing to use on a single doll if they can use half and still sell you the doll for the same price so.... keep on waiting I guest. Most of my grail dolls I already have them so I'm not like "desperate" about getting a specific sculpt.That being said, there is always a doll I will like to own but is not like I'll die if I don't own them...

Do you usually get dolls for a specific character, or create a character once you have the doll?

- I usually get the doll for a specific character but this doesn't mean I haven't piked my good share of dolls just because they're pretty and felt obligated to give them a character afterwards...

Do any of your dolls have an accessory or piece of clothing that they always wear?

- "Night" have a "bow and arrow" set. "Star" has a yellow/orange sparkling scarf, "Max" have dog-tags, "Doc" have black long boots, "Pax" have a blue feather hanging on his neck.., almost all of the characters/dolls I have, have something special that they wear of like to have around at every situation...

Do any of your dolls participate in any clubs, or sports?

- I hate sports, I never did took interest or asked them if they did. But I'm guessing no...

Do your dolls have any pets? If so, would you ever get their pet as it’s own doll?

- Some, and in some cases, yes... but mostly they don't have pets.

What is something about your doll that no one else knows?

- I can't seem to change the eyes of my first doll, I tried like 4 times and ended up back to his original eyes in less than a day. It's like the eyes are the window to the entire personality of that particular doll and without that specific eyes he doesn't looks the same...and I can't tolerate that fact. I fell like I've just killed someone whenever I change his eyes...it's a weird felling knowing he is a doll and it's not actually alive but damn...fells like shit. :/

What is your dolls favorite color? What about their favorite color to wear?

- "Star" preffers redish with a bit of blue, "Doc" loves everything black and specially red... "Lily" loves Pink and white, "Max" prefers military-like colors or simple things...and so on...

Are any of your dolls spiritual?

- I'm not sure on how to interpret this question, ...do you mean if they (their characters) are involved in "spiritual" or so activities..?, or if I use them as "spiritual dolls" to hold the spirit of the dead in real life..?, really, this question needs some context.

Do any of your dolls have tattoos? If so, do they represent anything?

- Not that I recall, maybe a couple. Not going to spoil the story and their meaning. Sorry.

Do any of your dolls have a nickname? Is it one they like, or do they dislike it? Who gave it to them?

- Star usually call Max “the old guy” or “the old men”, and Doc nickname Max sometimes as “the warrior”. But Max doesn’t know they called him nicknames.
