Release: October 2, 1995
Lyrics:
Life is a paradise...whoa oh yeah
[Chorus:]
Lucky love belongs in teenage heaven
I know, I know
'Cause I've been there with you tonight
I believe life could be paradise once again...
And the love we thought we lost is sleeping within
Close your eyes it's something for you
I'm a prisoner of hope
I know
We are young and we are old
We're fallin' like leaves, like leaves...
And your heart's so full of soul
It makes me believe
Once again, it's something for you...
Songwriter:
A bridge over time
Was what you need to see the light, to see the light
Oh yeah
Lucky love, lucky love
Lucky love belongs in teenage heaven...
Joker / Billy Steinberg
SongFacts:
"Lucky Love" is a 1995 song recorded by Swedish group Ace of Base. It is taken from their second album, 'The Bridge' (1995). The song became their fifth worldwide single, and was the first single from the album to be released in Europe; the acoustic version of the song was the second single in the United States and Canada. "Lucky Love" also became the group's first number-one hit in Sweden and it also peaked at number-one in Finland. The single peaked within the top 10 in Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Hungary, Israel, Spain, and Zimbabwe. The song's lyrics describes the feeling of being a teenager in love and never forgetting that feeling.
The song was performed for the first time on 4 August 1995 during the 1995 World Championships in Athletics opening ceremony in Gothenburg. It received its radio premiere on 25 September, ahead of its commercial release on 2 October.
"Lucky Love" was very successful on the charts on several continents, becoming one of the group's biggest hits to date. In Europe, it reached number-one in Finland and Sweden, and peaked within the top 10 also in Belgium, Denmark (number two), France, Hungary (number four) and Spain, as well as on the Eurochart Hot 100, where the single made it to number six. Additionally, "Lucky Love" was a top 20 hit in Austria, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland and the UK. In the latter, it peaked at number 20 in its first week at the UK Singles Chart on November 5, 1995. It stayed at that position for two weeks. Outside Europe, the single peaked at number six in Canada, number nine in Zimbabwe, number 12 in New Zealand, number 29 on the US Cash Box Top 100, number 30 in Australia and on the US Billboard Hot 100. On the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart, "Lucky Love" hit number-one on March 23, 1996.

2 Unlimited - "Let the Beat Control Your Body" 1994 Eurohouse / Eurodance
Yeesh. Although their run of hits in the US would pretty much end by the Autumn of 1993, Belgian-Dutch dance project 2 Unlimited would continue to pump out a lot more singles over the next few years, prolonging their clenched grip on the collective European charts. And this plainly bad song of theirs that they had clearly made for mindless raving, which, noncoincidentally, sounded like the simplest and dumbest lead melody that they had crafted yet, exemplified just how enamored people all across the continent still were with them.
The US arenas had picked up two of the group's prior hits off of their No Limits album—“No Limit" and "Tribal Dance"—but this one that was a clear appeal to ravers seemed to be a bit too much for an American sports crowd to handle, and as such, failed to chart in any capacity. But starting in 1995, despite 2 Unlimited never achieving another significant American hit ever again, their notoriety would only increase, thanks to their most successful US singles being included on the first four volumes of Jock Jams, all of which were songs that they had already released between 1991 and 1993.
This video's a total trip, though. Once it opens with a close-up on an eyeball, you know you're gonna be in for some wild shit, and in that regard, it doesn't disappoint. While the song itself was made to be inserted into rave sets, the group also seems to have been fully cognizant of just how associated their music had become with sports and fitness too, as the video hard cuts between a lot of stuff, including gymnasts in silver bodysuits and rapper Ray Slijngaard doing shirtless bicep curls. Plus, there's also some darling early 90s graphics and someone in one of those dizzying gyroscope things too! 😵🤢
