THESE ARE AGED-UP NINJA TURTLES. THEY ARE GROWN ASSED ADULTS. DON'T BE A <FILL IN THE BLANK>. 😘
Or at least that’s what I tell everyone.
My name is Liz, and I work for OSHA.
You see, after I graduated with an Associate’s in Science for Occupational and Environmental Safety Management, I was offered a job with FED OSHA - Occupational Safety and Health Administration through the federal government - The job of my dreams. So, you can imagine how ecstatic I was when they hired me.
Everything was great for the first few months - until they brought me in on a top-secret project in New York. They told me they needed a Safety Technician who specialized in humanitarian issues and loved animals. Apparently, they thought I was their girl.
Weird, right?
So, they brought me to this gargantuan underground facility, where I was given my own office with all the latest and greatest technology and safety gadgets - even ones that hadn’t been put on the market yet; It was a fucking dream. One of those ‘too good to be true’ scenarios.
And indeed. It was too good to be true.
They moved me to Manhattan to be closer to the facility because it was necessary for me to be on call 24/7 - which was totally fine because it was just me.
And because they paid me WELL.
So, after a few months of puttering around, fixing compliance issues, they decided it was time for me to start in my REAL job position.
“Ms. Bueno, we will be bringing you in today, to help with the major issue we hired you for, initially.”
“Great! I can’t wait to get to work!” I said to the director.
“Good. I’ll be waiting in Section K22. Please meet me down there.”
“The high-security clearance sector?” I asked, a bit confused.
“Yes,” he replied.
I nodded, and he went to walk away but stopped at my office door. “ Oh, and Ms. Bueno?”
“Yes, sir?” I asked.
“Do make sure you use the restroom before you head down. Some of the things you see may be… Shocking,” he told me.
“Certainly, sir,” I said as he turned and left completely this time.
What the actual fuck are they doing down there.
I met the director at the entrance to K22 - which turned out to be more secure than Fort Knox - and I was handed a white lab coat and some safety glasses by his security detail, which consisted of like seven huge dudes.
“Why are you guys all wearing bullet-proof vests, and I get this?” I asked, shaking the flimsy lab coat between my index finger and thumb.
“They seem to have a soft spot for females,” said ‘Bruce’, according to his name tag.
“Well, Bruce,” I said, unimpressed by his explanation, “OSHA clearly states that whatever PPE or other safety-related articles are donned by personnel going into an area of safety concern, those same articles need to be worn by EVERYONE that enters. Not just the men,” I stated, giving him my best OSHA inspector face.
“She’s not wrong. Give her a vest for under her lab coat,” said the director.
That’s right. Fuck you, Bruce.
After all of my safety gear was on, they walked me down a long, brightly lit corridor that led to another door. This door could only be opened using iris recognition.
“Ms. Bueno, what you are about to see, is one of the World’s most highly classified projects. If you tell anyone about this, you and said people will be eliminated.”
“Eliminated?” I choked out through a slightly embarrassing squeak.
“Eliminated. As in loss of life. Death. And you will be expunged - completely erased so no one knows you ever existed. Do you agree to these terms?”
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. What in the HELL have I gotten myself into…
“Uh, yes?” I said, making my response sound more like a question.
“I’m not convinced, Ms. Bueno. I need to be very convinced before we go through these doors. It’s a matter of national security.”
“100%, sir. I am absolutely, 100% positive. I swear to these terms, sir,” I told him, feeling my backbone reappear.
“Good. Samuel, we’re ready for entry,” he told the biggest security staff member.
Samuel cocked his gun and stood in front of the door, in the ready position, pointing the gun at it like the zombie apocalypse was about to ensue.
I swallowed nervously.
That’s a fucking lie. I’m about to shit my pants. No wonder he had me go to the bathroom before I came down here.
Anyway, as I’m wishing I had a diaper on, the director leaned in and initiated the iris recognition scan, successfully opening the sealed door. The security detail filed in first.
I followed the director into what looked like a giant laboratory. As we got ready to turn the corner, his security detail fanned out in front of us.
“LET US OUT!” Boomed a deep, raspy voice.
*Adrenaline rush*
“Just sit down. It’s not gonna help,” said another.
“HE NEEDS HELP!” yelled the first voice.
“I know, but they aren’t gonna let us out. And honestly, I don’t even know who could, or would, help him.” came a third voice.
I saw the director from the corner of my eye, turn and look at me as I stood stock-still, looking forward, and waiting to be told that I could proceed.
He didn’t say anything, so I turned and looked at him, my eyes the size of Jupiter. All pupil.
He nodded once, and I stepped around the corner.
May God strike me dead where I stand, if I’m lying.
There was a giant reinforced cage, resembling jail cells, holding the fucking Ninja Turtles in them.
I shit you not.
Albeit they were a bit older than we’d seen them in movies, and they looked slightly different, but they were definitely THE Ninja Turtles.
I gathered myself and turned to the director. “What is my job here, sir?” I asked him, completely composed with a straight face.
“Health and Safety,” He said, sadness flashing across his eyes for less than a moment. “We will leave you and let you do what you need to do,” he said, leaving me alone with the caged turtle-men.
Once I was sure I was alone, I looked around for security cameras. When I'd decided there were none - probably for top-secret and national security reasons - I took off the stupid lab coat, safety glasses, and bulletproof vest and ran to the cages.
“Oh my god, what happened to him?” I asked, squatting down and reaching an arm through the bars to check Donatello’s pulse.
The other three turned and looked at me, confused.
“Don’t touch him,” Growled the red-banded bara.
“Who are you?” asked Leonardo, putting a hand up in a placating manner, in an attempt to get his brother to back down.
“I’m the lead Health and Safety technician for this project. They hired me six months ago for this project, but this is the first time hearing about all of this,” I said, slightly alarmed by the faintness of Donnie's heartbeat. “Now, please tell me, what happened to him,” I said to Leo, looking him directly in the eyes.
“We don’t know. They sedated him. Heavily. And took him out of the lab. He was gone for two days. He’s been like this since they brought him back,” said Leo, now kneeling in the corner of the cell so he was next to me and his unconscious brother.
“And how long ago did they bring him back?” I asked.
“Maybe three to four hours ago? It’s hard to tell. We’ve been stuck in here forever.”
“Oh God… Is he allergic to anything? Does he have any health issues?” I prodded, my eyebrows furrowed, and my face twisted in clear heartache.
“Uh, no, no. None of us do. I mean, unless you count the fact that we’re overgrown, mutated, humanoid turtles…” He said.
I couldn't help but smirk at him, “No. That’s actually quite normal. This is New York, after all.”
Mikey huffed a stifled giggle from beside me, now standing the closest he could get to us, in his own cage.
As I started to stand up, Leo stuck his hand through the bars and grabbed my wrist. I looked into his gorgeous blue eyes, which were filled with sorrow and hope. “Thank you,” he whispered.
“Don’t thank me yet. I haven’t even done anything,” I told him softly.
“Yea, but you’re going to - I can see the genuine worry on your face,” he said, my face heating up as he pulled me closer to his cage to get a better look at me.
“I need to go look through the files over by the entry door,” I whispered to him. “I need to see what they were doing to him, so I can help him.”
Leo released my wrist and wiped a tear from my cheek. I didn’t even realize I was crying.
“I’m Leo,” he introduced himself.
“I know who you guys are. You’re kinda my childhood heroes,” I confessed, looking down.
“Thank God,” huffed Raphael, visibly relaxing.
“You’re actually gonna help us then?” asked Mikey from behind me.
I turned and looked at the orange-clad turtle, “Yes, of course.”
I turned back to Leo and leaned in closer to him so he could hear me whisper...
“I don’t know how, but I promise, I’ll help you get out of here.”

Dragons arrive
Running through the rooftops at full speed felt good, Raph was following his sister closely and they jumped to the next building. It was only the two of them that night, part of the compromise they had reached after the night Raph snuck out. From then on they would go out as a group, if not all of them, then at least in pairs. Leo had asked Raph to go with her for patrolling, specifically to help Raph learn his way around the city so he wouldn’t get lost again. And as much as Raph would like to deny it, even he had to admit he needed to be able to move around on his own.
Every few buildings Leona would instruct Raph to look at his surroundings, and try and memorize how everything looked. “Many buildings look similar so you have to pay attention to the little details, things like the street names, the businesses, the graffiti on the walls”, she said. Raph turned around slowly, taking in everything, his gaze focused on a building, something about it seemed familiar. He stared at it for a second. “I know that building! Casey and I passed near it when he helped get home”, he said excitedly, “That mean’s Casey’s diner is nearby!”. Leo let out a chuckle and nodded at her brother, “yes, that’s where we’re going”, she explained, “I figured we’ll be seeing more of him, so best if you know your way there”.
The two of them continued on their way, Leona pointing out landmarks that Raph could use to memorize his way. As they got closer to the diner, they started hearing sounds of fighting. Leona looked back at Raph and gave the signal for him to stay close and alert. They continued to move towards the sound, leading them to the edge of a roof that was next to an empty lot. The lot seemed to be used as an impromptu parking lot. The ruckus happening around a black van with a sprayed-on dragon on the side, “Purple dragons”, Leona whispered as she got closer to the edge to get a better look.
The van’s back door was opened and it seemed like the gang was trying to get some boxes into the van. But it seemed they were having a hard time doing so, since there was a guy fighting them off with a bat and a hockey stick. The guy was wearing some sort of mask, but Leo couldn’t really tell the details on it. Raph’s eyes squinted at the guy, he recognized the wavy black hair and deep blue hoodie. “Leo, I think that’s Casey”
Almost like clockwork Casey's voice was heard, “MANOS LES VAN A FALTAR PA’ PELARME LA RIATA!”. Neither Leona or Raph knew what that meant, but they were sure they probably didn’t want to know. They watched as Casey was ambushed by the gang, it was one against eight, certainly not a fair fight, but somehow he seemed to be handling decently. Leona couldn’t help but analyze his fighting, he was raw, he definitely had no formal training like they had, but so very captivating nonetheless.
She was brought out her thoughts, when she noticed Casey was grabbed by a muscular guy, holding his arms behind his back. A second guy, probably the leader of the little squad, got closer to him, flipping his mask up, his face contorted into a scowl. “Well if it isn’t mr. vigilante, not so tough now, are ya?”, the leader guy said, getting face to face with Casey. Without a word, Casey moved his head backwards before bringing it back down at full speed, headbutting the guy. This action caused the muscular guy to tighten his grip on Casey, making him grunt in pain. Raph immediately got up “We have to help him!”, he barely waited for Leo to nod before jumping down.
The smaller turtle jumped down at full force towards the guy holding Casey. With a swift kick he knocked him back enough to free Casey. Casey turned around surprised to see Raph, “Bud?”. Raph gave a quick glance at Casey “we’re here to help!”, he said before turning his attention back to the guy. ‘We?’ Casey thought, almost immediately a new figure appeared in front of him, landing right onto the leader guy, knocking him into the ground. Leona looked intently at the guy she just took out, before raising her head to meet Casey’s eyes. Like the day they met, Casey found himself being stared by the blue banded turtle. She was backlit by the van’s headlights, making her ruby eyes look like they were glowing. Without a word, she pulled out a shuriken and threw it at the guy behind Casey, pinning him by the jacket to the wall. Her lips turned into a subtle smile, “Mind if we drop in?”. Casey, still perplexed by all the things that happened in quick succession, took a second to register Leo’s question. His face quickly became smug as he reached for his mask “be my guest”, he said before flipping his mask back down.
It was now three against eight, seven if you didn’t count the guy Leona took out. The purple dragons moved closer surrounding them, all of them armed, five of them with bats and two of them crowbars. “Raph”, Leo said, getting his brother’s attention “use your size to your advantage, tire them out, and don't stop moving”. Raph nodded at his sister’s instructions as he prepared his sais, Leo followed suit pulling her swords from their scabbards, Casey gave his own weapons a twirl.
In a matter of seconds the gang began their attack on the three of them. Raph was a little ball of energy, running around the whole parking lot. Every so often he would quickly change direction making the two guys following, who he had mentally denominated as “Mohawk guy" and “Scar guy” trip and fall, leaving him an opening to give them a good kick to the head before taking off again. “Come here you little freak” said Mohawk guy, his hand reaching to grab him by his mask’s tails. Raph quickly dropped to the ground, leaving Mohawk guy with his arm extended. Raph turned around and used the extended arm to flip the guy and drop him hard on the ground. Scar guy stood there shocked for a second, before turning his eyes back to Raph, making the turtle take it as his queue to start moving again.
Casey was less refined in his fighting, there was a lot of grabbing and pushing the guys around. Dodging the swings of the bats only to swing his own weapons at them. With an upwards swing of his hockey stick he knocked the first guy's bat off his hands. He twirled the hockey stick to use the point to give a quick jab at the guy's abdomen, causing him to curl up in pain. Casey raised his foot and gave him a good kick in the chest sending him crashing into the trash can behind him. He yelped in pain as the second guy hit him in the shoulder with his crowbar “SHIT!”, he yelled. His head quickly turned to look at the guy, his hands gripped his weapons tight. He quickly went to tackle the crowbar guy, once on the ground the two wrestle for a bit before Casey grabbed him by the jacket and raised him enough to headbut him. He quickly stood up, and dragged him by the leg to the nearest wall. Using the guy’s own jacket he tied his hands behind his back.
Leona was quick and elegant, every movement had its purpose, every clash of her swords was calculated and deliberate. She was fighting people with less skill and training than her, so she had to be careful where she struck. It was three against one; two of them with metal bats and one with a crowbar. She dodged and moved away from their attacks, taking a few seconds to memorize their pattern. Staying light on her feet, she evades two swings of a bat, taking a step forwards to dodge the crowbar. With a swift motion she swung one her swords to meet the bat aiming for her side, pushing them back. Her leg was raised before quickly coming back down towards the other bat wielder. She arched her back in order to do a back handstand, her legs kicking the crowbar out her attacker’s hands. As her feet touched the ground and immediately jumped out of the way to avoid the metal bat. Leona swiftly moves through the chaos, her focus unwavering. She spins around, gracefully parrying a swing from the crowbar wielder with her sword, sending a shower of sparks into the air. With a fluid motion, she kicks him in the stomach, causing him to stagger back. With a good strike to the neck she knocks him out and pins him to the wall with a kunai. She feels the bat wielders approach behind her. She quickly turned her head, her red eyes glowing in the dark giving her a scary and intimidating look. Both gangsters are caught off guard, and Leona seizes the opening to lunge forward, using some of her own bandages to tie them both together.
Meanwhile, Raph continues his agile assault, darting between his adversaries with lightning speed. He sees an opening as Scar guy lunges towards him with a wild swing of his crowbar. Raph ducks under the attack, his sais flashing in the dimly lit parking lot. He strikes Scar Guy's knees, causing him to buckle and collapse to the ground. Raph follows up with a series of swift strikes, disarming him and leaving him dazed on the pavement. Finally being done with his opponents Raph took the opportunity to blow a raspberry at them.
Immediately afterwards he sensed his sister ran up to check on him, moving various of his body parts to check for injuries. She quickly realized he wasn’t hurt and her worried look turned into a smile. Casey quickly joined them, unlike Raph, he had a few bruises. Before Leona could start fussing over Casey’s injuries, they were interrupted by a pair of cars that rushed their way into the lot. Instinctively putting an arm in front of Raph, Leo prepared herself for more fighting, Raph and Casey following suit. Out one of the cars popped the leader of the Purple Dragon, Hun, a muscular guy, with bleached blonde hair, his left arm adorned with a dragon tattoo. He was followed by a bunch of more purple dragons, all armed.
Leo immediately tensed up, but her expression didn’t show it. Hun took a step closer towards Leona with a snarky smirk, “well, well, well, if it isn’t the turtle freak”, he said, “and the baby freak”. He got closer to Raph, Leona placing herself between them, a growl escaping her lips, making Hun chuckle. His gaze soon fell on Casey, making his already amused expression turn borderline disturbing. “Oh this is rich!” he said turning to his crew, who laughed with him “It seems the turtle freaks are friends with our little vigilante”, he turned towards Casey once again, “Hey kid, how’s Carmen?”. Casey’s face turned sour, “Don’t fucking say my mother’s name again, cabrón”, anger sipping into every sillable that left Casey’s mouth. Hun simply let out another laugh, his crew copping him. Leo’s eye met Casey’s telling him to stay calm.
“So!” Leona’s voice cut through the laughter, making Hun turn his attention onto her, “what are you doing here, Hun?”. Raph looked at his sister with wide eyes, he had never heard his sister’s voice sound so serious and borderline threatening. Whenever she talked to him and their siblings, she always had a caring tone, even when she was scolding them. But this Hun guy didn’t seem to be scared, he took a step closer to Leo getting into her personal space, “I think you know exactly what i want” his sly smile turned into a intimidating look “i want my stuff”. Leona’s eyes shifted towards the open van Hun’s people were already securing, as well as how they carried the guys they just fought onto the cars. “And if we don’t give it to you?”, she asked. Hun snapped his fingers getting his crew’s attention who immediately pulled out their weapons, “then me and my dragons will have some turtle soup for dinner”
Raph tightened his grip on his sais, as he watched his sister standing firm against a guy at least twice her size. From the corner of his eye, he noticed Casey step closer to him defensively, bat and hockey stick in hand. The tension was palpable, both sides getting ready to attack. No one made a sound. “Fine”, Leo’s voice cut the silence, “Take your stuff and your people and leave”. The sly smile returned to Hun’s face as he snapped his fingers again.
In a few minutes the dragons and their van started leaving, “Until we meet again freaks” Hun said from the window of his car, as he sped away. Leona led out an exasperated sigh, as she let her body relax again. The moment of quiet was quickly interrupted by Raph, “Why did you let them go?!”. Leo looked back at his brother, gently placing a hand on his shoulder, “Sometimes you have to pick your battles Raph”.
“Yeah, but they got away with their weird tech stuff”, Casey said, “who knows what they’ll do with it”. Leo's eyes turned thoughtful as she planned their next move. “Not all of it”, Raph said, getting the attention of the older teens, “I stash some of their boxes in the trash bin, while Scar guy was down”. The three of them made their way to the bin Raph pointed out, and lo and behold there were three boxes full of tech pieces inside. Casey patted Raph’s back “way to go bud!”. Leona kneeled on the floor looking through the boxes, finding that some of the pieces were marked with ‘Baxter Technologies’, before looking up towards his brother, “We’ll have Donny take a look at this”, she said with a soft smile. Raph gave her a good nod, happy to have helped.
Leona and Raph ended up finishing their training run with Casey as they made their way towards the diner, which turned out to be only a block away from his apartment building. They had to go at a slower pace than normal because of the boxes, and the fact that Casey wasn’t used to traveling through rooftops.”So how do you know Hun?” Casey asked. “I’ve stopped some of the Purple Dragons robberies before, I’ve only encountered Hun twice tho”, Leona explained, “And now it looks like they are working the Foot, which is gonna cause even more trouble”. Casey stumbled onto the next building, nearly losing his balance holding the box “Who’s the Foot?”. Raph landed next to him, “they are another ninja clan who hates us and wants us dead”, he said. “They’d been mostly gone for 2 years now, but their leader Shredder came back to the city a few weeks ago”, Leona said calmly. “He’s the one that stole Tōsan’s life force!” Raph exclaimed angrily. “I see…” Casey said.
The three of them continued on their way, mostly in silence, “What about you? How do you know Hun?” Leo asked, respectfully but undoubtedly curious as to how Hun knew Casey. “They’ve been trying to expand their territory to my neighborhood for the past three months now”, Casey said “And I’m not letting that happen, not on my watch”. Leo couldn’t help but stare at Casey for a second, seeing a side of him she didn’t expect.
Soon enough they made their way on top of Casey’s building, the vigilante handing his heavy box to Leo, playfully patting Raph on his shell, and saying their goodbyes. “If you ever need help with these foot guys, call me alright?”, he said with a coy smile, that amused Leona. “Of course” she said, “and if the dragons keep causing trouble, we’ll be happy to help”. Raph gave an enthusiastic nod, making Casey let out a little chuckle, “It’s a deal, Blue”, he said as he entered the building.
A smile found its way onto Leo’s face, as she watched the vigilante disappear into the building. Raph took a second to look at his sister, a little confused, but before he could decipher the look on his sister’s face, Leo looked back at him.
“Come on, you’re leading us back to the lair”, she said.

Leonardo (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)- Chapter 8
You’ve been wondering what this truly means for you.
You don’t feel much different, yet this is the first time that you’ve remained in the present time. So something must have changed.
“Everything works, no problems?”
“None.”
You assure Leo.
You’re at the usual spot. Though the both of you had spent that morning celebrating, as the days pass, you know he’s a little worried. You are too.
There is one particular thing that is fresh in your mind.
“I never said thank you.”
Leo loses his train of thought when you look over at him. You’re both sitting fairly close.
“You stayed with me all night. It was selfish of me to ask you to do that. Being the one who would have to carry my body back. It was unfair."
You knew that, but at the moment, you just wanted the comfort that only Leo could provide.
“It’s okay to be selfish sometimes. You were scared. You needed me, so I did what I had to. I knew from the start what was going to happen. You never hid it from me. If you had passed on, I’m glad that I was able to be the last thing you saw when you left."
You feel like tearing up again. You shift a bit closer, and your hands brush. Your eyes moved down. You can’t seem to stop yourself from gently holding his hand. That warmth feels so safe. Leo swallows at the touch.
His hand is so much bigger than your palm.
Your eyes finally connect again. Somehow the blue of those eyes are all you ever want from life.
“(Y/N) I’m-”
“Are you uncomfortable?”
You don’t really let go, even after you ask the question.
“No I just..”
He’s not sure what to say.
“I have feelings for you Leo.”
His eyes are wide.
“I don’t know if it’s because you tried so hard at the very beginning to convince me that there was more in the world than pain. Before I met you I had every intention of leaving this world without a second thought. But you made me question everything. Challenge everything. That night I..I wanted nothing more than to tell you how I felt, but I knew I’d leave and it was selfish to say that when I know we wouldn’t be able to ever have a future. I was terrified of so much back then. But I’m not anymore."
He can feel the slight tremors in your hands.
“I know there is a chance that you don’t really reciprocate these feelings. Even so I’d still like it if we can be-”
“I have feelings for you too.”
You pause.
“From the second you told me I think I..I became protective. Maybe at the start it was just pity. But the more time we spent the harder it was becoming for me to stop thinking about you. It felt easier to keep it to myself. I didn’t want you to leave with anymore regrets. I couldn’t.”
You internalize all that is said, and Leo squeezes your hand.
“Just so you know, I’m still not completely won over by every person on this planet.”
“Why’d you have to ruin such a great moment.”
You laugh, and Leo joins in.
It’s clear he still has a lot of work to get done.
