FRESH FOOD DIARY FOR MY RATS

I try to aim for as much organic produce as possible but alas I am disabled and poor, and not all the foods I want to give them for health benefits are available as organic all the time. I always keep my eyes peeled for organic stuff, and always grab it if I see it’s reduced.

I’m feeding: 2 boys who are both 2+ years old and 2 younger girls (probably a year to a year and a half old)

todays finds:

- organic beetroot

- organic mint

- golden kiwi

- organic rocket

- tofu

- bell peppers

- mungbean sprouts

- pureed parsnip baby food! (it was on sale and they love love love pureed pumpkin so i have to try it out) it also has literally no other additives which is hard to find for ratties.

- wholewheat breadrolls I’m gonna cut up into bite size chunks, i’ll leave them on my counter for a day to harden up as I use this for their daily medication and vitamins

Stuff already at home that I’ll mix in: Zucchini, garlic, carrot, parsley and broccoli.

I cut all this up into various shapes (smaller but thicker chunks for my old boy so he can eat it more easily) and sprinkle seeds and grains on top (typically: sesame, flax, wholegrain spelt, popped millet, a small handful of buckwheat, sprinkle of oats, and red lentils for protein if I don’t have tofu on hand).

They get one small bowl of this every evening to supplement their diet (Science Selective Complete Rat Food).

Having rats is not the easiest but preventative care is so so important to try mitigate any future health problems.

Le Planète Sauvage is a French animated movie, displayed for the first time in 1973.

Despite the fact that the main philosophyc theme which permeate the whole film is the antispeciesism theory, giving a deeper look I personally found it to relate also to the Cavern Myth of Plato.

Studying cinema is thrilling, a neverending discovery of deeper and hidden meanings and messages.

And we, as humans, should really try to take more seriously our role as "movie archeologists".

Ricordo ancora la sera in cui un caro amico che ci ha lasciato da poco, mi disse che ascoltarmi parlare era coinvolgente e che avrei dovuto parlare di antispecismo davanti ad un pubblico, perché secondo lui mi avrebbero ascoltato e forse sarei riuscita a toccare i loro cuori come feci con il suo, bè si sbagliava.

Innanzitutto perché ho vergogna di parlare di fronte a molte persone ed inizio ad andare nel panico e a dimenticare tutto ciò che vorrei dire , ma soprattutto perché le persone non cambiano se non hanno già dentro sè il seme del cambiamento che un bel discorso può solo favorire a farlo sbocciare.

Ma su di una cosa aveva ragione, il senso di giustizia, di consapevolezza e di voglia di cambiare questo sistema mi tira fuori la grinta necessaria ad esporre il mio punto di vista.

Non è facile parlare di diritti in nessuna società esistente su questo pianeta, né per animal3 uman3 né per animal3 non uman3, ma animal3 non uman3 hanno uno svantaggio maggiore, quello di specie.

La specie umana domina sulle altre specie perciò ogni ingiustizia nei confronti delle altre specie è tollerata, normalizzata, accettata perché la maggioranza non vede nessun tipo di problema nello schiavizzare, usare ed uccidere animal3 di altre specie, anzi la vede come una necessità, un diritto. La cosa peggiore è che come ci si rende davvero conto di cosa si nasconde sotto la superficie, di ciò che abbiamo creduto normale e necessario, ci si rende conto che l'ingiustizia dettata dal crederci una specie superiore si trova ovunque, letteralmente, partendo da quello che viene chiamato "cibo", agli "sport", alle "attrazioni" fino alla sperimentazione che tocca ogni prodotto che viene creato per uso umano dalla benzina al rossetto passando per i medicinali e così via.

Toccare i cuori delle persone non è cosa facile, mettere in discussione tutto ciò su cui si basa la loro vita è pressoché impossibile, per questo, nonostante le sue belle parole, nemmeno il mio amico ci riuscì.

Perciò questo vuole essere giusto un ricordo alla sua memoria, alle sue parole che mi avevano commosso e ora ancor di più nonostante io sappia fin troppo bene quanto sia difficile il cambiamento e la cosa che più straziante è il pensiero che 40.000 animal3 al secondo continueranno a morire senza che nessun3 possa davvero farci qualcosa.
