20/07/23-Golden-ringed Dragonfly, Blackcap, Red Admiral, Wren and more Winnall Moors, Lakeside and others

Pictures taken in this set: 1 and 2. Beautiful sunny morning views as I cut across Lakeside. 3. Lovely nightshade on the way to the railway station this morning, I saw this at Winnall Moors at lunch time too. 4. Meadowsweet, hogweed and thistle with oxeye daisy in there too, the meadowsweet especially looked so beautiful and nice and numerous to see at Winnall Moors. 5. Delightful hemp agrimony at Winnall Moors which was a great flower to see too. 6 and 10. A gorgeous Blackcap I was so delighted to see, hearing it and another belt out their melodious tune which was a great refreshing experience to drink in at lunch time. Key moments today. 7. Red Admiral at Winnall Moors, I loved seeing lots of them bringing their flash of beauty through the air, seeing them in Winchester and from the train today too. They are everywhere currently which is quite something to see. 8. Bramble flower at Winnall Moors. 9. Yellow or garden loosestrife, another one I liked seeing so much of at Winnall Moors.

I was also captivated and amazed to watch a giant gleaming Golden-ringed Dragonfly on vegetation and flying at Winnall Moors, battling with another at one point. There always seems to be a big moment for watching nature when I'm drawn to come to Winnall Moors at lunch time as I was today and this was the main one today. A dragonfly that is around a lot currently, one I adore seeing and I am having a great year for. It's coming up to a year since I first took the plunge to visit Winnall Moors on an office working day lunch break, and visiting this rich reserve has been a sensation. It has allowed me not only many captivating moments with nature in a working day (and one weekend visit) but has also allowed for many pivotal moments (especially this year) in my wildlife year. I was also pleased to see female Banded Demoiselle, young Robin, my first orange balsam or touch-me-not this year one I like, water mint, meadow crane's-bill, lots of purple loosestrife, lesser burdock and get great views of Peacock, Comma, Gatekeeper and Meadow Brown as well as many Small White in another Big Butterfly Count at Winnall Moors. Wren heard and seen well at Lakeside this evening as well as broad-leaved clover, agrimony and carrot enjoyed there today, Swifts, roses and lavender at Peninsula Barracks in Winchester and lady's bedstraw as well as a memorable view of Woodpigeon at Winchester Cathedral and Greylag Geese flying by Lakeside this morning and past the house just now were other highlights today.

Friends inside my phone i found a kate bush vinyl record yesterday!! For like 10$!!!

#almost passed out #i was fully expecting to have to wait like 5more years #because the prices are sickening #it was lionheart too like?! my favourite album #amazing #ngl i need hounds of love too #but we all know that’s not happening in this economy #also bought the soundtrack from les demoiselles de Rochefort #yes i was very happy #and afterwards my friend and i got coffee and went to a (classical) concert #and the guy played the swan by saint säens live #it was so beautiful

08/06/2023-Winchester and Lakeside

Wildlife and flower photos taken today: 1 and 9. A ravishing Peregrine Falcon high on Winchester Cathedral’s north tower tonight. Winnie I believe, wonderful to see her again and get some photos of a Winchester Peregrine for June. Precious moments in the sunshine seeing her this evening and I enjoyed sharing the sight with others. 2. A beautiful Wren it was a delight to see and hear in Abbey Gardens, a strong bird moment today. 3. Nice flowers at Winchester Cathedral. 4. Big bindweed in Winchester. 5. A dazzling Meadow Brown at Lakeside tonight, good to get a photo of one after seeing these lovely butterflies the past few days. 6, 7 and 8. Flowers in Winchester. 10. Roses in Abbey Gardens, here and at the nice corner of Colebrook Street nearby there was a sensational multi-coloured display of radiance in the sunshine.

Swifts once again were a key bird to see swirling through the blue sky, with Large Skipper briefly and Speckled Wood butterflies seen at Lakeside when cutting through this evening on the way home. It was good to see Lesser Black-backed Gull at Lakeside this evening and some with other gulls by the River Itchen from the train tonight. It was good to hear Goldfinch and Blue Tit in Winchester at lunch time and see a Blue Tit and possibly hear young at Lakeside this morning. Beautiful Demoiselle and bee or hoverfly were nice to see in Winchester, and other key flowers seen today were ivy-leaved toadflax, mallow, cinquefoil at Lakeside again, periwinkle, bright fox-and-cubs again, daisy, oxeye daisy, elder and bramble flower.
