For all the knit, crochet, and quilt people out there, I wanted to let y'all know about a wonderful charity called Project Linus. They take donated handmade blankets and give them to children in hospitals. This is such a sweet idea and they have been doing it for 29 years. The blankets must be pet hair and smoke free and at least 36" x 36". You can find more info and local (United States) drop off locations at their website: projectlinus.org. I drop mine off at my local Joann fabric/craft store.

Here's one I'm currently working on and I'm really happy with how it looks.

Re-Brainstorming (8th October)
I decided to rebrainstorm my project to include a variety of subjects to study as i found my other ideas to be either too vague or limited.
Tumblr media
The main ideas i had were to build off of Fashion, Perishable Items vs. Single-use Plastics, Objects and Emotions & Body Language.
I will take all my ideas into account when exploring the theme of 'Temporary', but the phrases and ideas i have highlighted are:
Fashion > Fast Fashion > Sustainability, Junk Kouture, "reuse, rewear", disposable fashion trends
Fashion > Homemade > crochet & knitting clothing > reusing wool
Fashion > Second-hand > charity shop> "second-hand fashion trends"- resurgence of 60's, 70's, 80's, etc. fashion > resurgence of cassettes, vhs, cd's, vinyl > nostalgia based culture- people trying to relive when they were young and care-free (a temporary period) > aesthetics vs. practicality
Emotions & Body Language > Reactions are a fight or flight response > subconcious physical or facial reactions > temporary moments - mid-movement, mid-speaking
Objects > Charity shop items > (my items from charity shops) Artemis bust, Nefertiti bust, Budd'ai statue, jewelery, books > items temporarily owned > temporary sentiment > itemshistorically of extreme sacred and spiritual value, reserved for the rich and holy, are now attainable and mass produced > cultural context
Primary Research from home
Charity shop items and temporary meaning & sentiment
The blue vase was once owned for my nana. It was bought as a birthday gift from a charity shop for her in the 80's and was passed onto my mam when she passed away. There are 3 generations of meaning behind this vase: by its first owner who placed it in a charity shop, as a birthday gift to my nana and now as my mam's memory of her own mam.
Tumblr media
I bought these children's bookends in the Limerick Animal Welfare charity shop. I bought them because i found them to be quite haunting, why were they put into a charity shop, had a child outgrown them or had they outgrown the child?
Tumblr media
i bought this statue of Artemis/Diana in the Curiosity Shop. I have always been fascinated by ancient cultures and their art and spirituality. This stauette is a replica of the Diana of Versailles, the statue given by Pope Paul IV to Henry II of France in 1556. Historically stuatues of gods were reserved for royality, the church and people of high power and i found this highly contrasted to a small statuette of one of the most revered Gods laying forgotten on a charity shop shelf.
Tumblr media
Budai has origins centered around cult worship and local legend. Although, an "uncommitted saint" the Chan Masters , leaders in the initial merging of local legend and Buddhist tradition, hoped the induction of likable and odd figures would attract all types of people to the Chan tradition, no matter their gender, social background (not really related to the theme but i really liked this idea).
Tumblr media
My mam bought me this in a charity shop when i was younger. The Nefertiti Bust is a painted stucco-coated limestone bust of Nefertiti, the Great Royal Wife of Egyptian pharaoh Akhenaten. In Ancient Egyptian culture, the purpose of portraits, statues and art as a whole was deeply rooted in their belief systems; so long as your image continued, your soul would live on. The egyptians did not fear physical death, but spiritual death, they understood that your physical life was limited - temporary- but the memory of you would keep your spirit alive. Nefertiti has succeeded in this as she is still extremely revered and marveled upon, 3367 years since this bust's creation.
Tumblr media
Scenes from my bedroom; charity shop bought Bust of Diana, second hand bought books, empty perfume bottle, burnt out candles and a melted candle stick (might draw studies of this)- all signs of life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another scene from my bedroom; charity shop bought frog teddy, empty bottles, secondhand 'Pre-Raphaelite' book, science and mythology books given to me by my granda, crochet piece- using wool scraps, Star Wars toys that my dad loved to collect- now belong to me and help me to remember him.

Chiefs vs Bills | Orchard Park, NY | January 21, 2024
Gant ‘Blank Canvas Project x Kilo Kish Bouclé Varsity Jacket’ - $1,800.00 (sold out)
Rather than opt for actual Chiefs merchandise, Taylor opted for one of her go-to outerwear brands in Chiefs-approved colours that also included some stars (do u like dem?). I’ve found that on a number of occasions opting for Chiefs colours in otherwise normal street style garments has been her strategy for away games.
This particular jacket was part of a trio of designs Gant executed in collaboration with artistic talents as part of their “Blank Canvas Project” campaign. The concept being to “[transform] the quintessential symbol of American Sportswear into wearable works of art.” The artist in question, Kilo Kish, said the “inspiration behind [her] design was Ivy League culture” - an extension on the themes she explored on her album American Gurl. As with much of Gant’s ethos, the brand’s objective to create modern pieces that are not only heirloom quality but that riff on Americana athletics is such a natural integration into Taylor’s game day style. The added bonus is that each of the Blank Canvas designs had 100% of its sale proceeds go towards a charity of the artist's choosing - something I'm sure Taylor could get behind having done her own share of philanthropic donations on each of the stops on the Eras Tour.
Kilo added when designing the jacket, “When people see the jacket, I want them to feel the playfulness and I want them to feel like it’s personalized and almost homemade looking.” That homemade feeling has been a personal touch also present through Taylor’s game day fashion. Where, in a world of seemingly endless options, Taylor has shown a level of care and intention to opt for small businesses (local to KC or women-owned) or items that are handmade (Kristin Juszczyk’s jacket and Kut the Knit’s crocheted beanie as just two examples).
As for the ‘CTFL’ on the jacket - my best guess (as confirmed by the artist themselves) is the FL is a reference to Kilo’s home state of Florida and the CT to Gant's headquarters in Connecticut. Which is also paid homage to in Gant’s FW 2023 collection with varsity jackets honouring New Haven, Connecticut and its Ivy League school Yale that Kilo also wore in campaign imagery for Gant.

Crochet Pattern for Palestine and Israel Relief
At long last, it's done!
Tumblr media
This crochet pattern is for small cats, of a good size to make into keychains, magnets, or even hair clips! There are six PDF versions available:
- US stitch names in 12 point Atkinson Hyperlegible - US stitch names in 22 point Atkinson Hyperlegible - US stitch names in 22 point Comic Sans
- UK stitch names in 12 point Atkinson Hyperlegible - UK stitch names in 22 point Atkinson Hyperlegible - UK stitch names in 22 point Comic Sans
Between those six options, that should cover most pattern accessibility needs. If you need something else, though, let me know! I'm prepared to offer a .doc or similar file on an individual basis if you need a screenreader to access crochet patterns, and have a sheet I can use to translate things to German stitch terms (though more in-depth instructions would still be in English). The pattern is worked primarily in (US) single crochet/(UK) double crochet, with the ears in (US) double crochet/(UK) treble crochet popcorn stitches, and is bundled with similar file options of a popcorn stitch tutorial PDF (no stitch names used).
"Socchan," you say, "These cats are super cute! And you said that this pattern is for charity? How does that work exactly?"
I'm glad you asked! Simply donate a minimum of $3 or close-enough local equivalent to a related charity, then take a screencap of your receipt/proof of donation. Block out any information that could doxx you; it's nice if you trust me, but it's not impossible that my email could get hacked, and I want you to be safe! Finally, email the altered screencap to socchan (at) protonmail (dot) com.
Once I get and check the screencap, I will email you back with a link to a MediaFire folder and the password you'll need to open the PDFs. Yes, it is a bit of a pain to need a password to open these files, but this was the simplest way I could figure out how to do things without needing to upload and send a minimum of six files to every person. Download as many of the variations as you want, keep a copy of the password somewhere safe (and don't delete the email with it), and go to town!
As a bonus, if you take your donation up to at least $5 (or close-enough local equivalent), I'll throw in an additional link and password for a very cute little flower pattern!
Tumblr media
"That sounds pretty easy," you go on to say, "but where should I donate? There are so many options to choose from!"
No problem! Here's a couple of short lists of options that can help you narrow things down:
Palestine: Palestine Children's Relief Fund - Focuses on medical aid to children in Palestine Medical Aid for Palestine - "[H]elp MAP respond to the ongoing emergency in Gaza, as well as provide medical supplies, support healthcare services and deliver long term development to healthcare in the occupied Palestinian territory and Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon." MAP reportedly has a team on the ground in Gaza, providing critical medical aid. Anera - Providing food, hygiene kits, and medical care in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem. Palestine Red Crescent - More medical support in Palestine; the rest of the webpage is in Arabic, so be prepared if you want to click around at all. Basically the Palestinian Red Cross. Gaza Cemetery Project - "Al-Hamdulillah, a 5,500 square meters’ piece of land has been secured to create a public cemetery for the city and neighbouring areas." This area still needs a fence to protect the burial plots before it can be used.
Israel: Zaka - A group of first responders and people who identify bodies and prepare them for burial (sadly, sorely needed right now); they are in need of safety equipment, medical supplies, first aid kits, and more. Red Magen David - The Israeli/Jewish equivalent of the Red Cross; first responder medical support and similar. (This one has some pretty immediate upsetting text, so take care!) Hatzalah - Similar to Red Magen David, another first responder and emergency medical group. The Koby Mandell Foundation - Focuses on bereavement aid in Israel for people who have lost loved ones in traumatic circumstances; they've got support hotlines and can arrange for support visits, among other things. The Refuser Solidarity Network - Providing support for Israeli citizens who refuse government mandatory military service.
I think that's everything, aside from: Please Signal Boost! If I end up having to send out two hundred emails in the next couple of days, that still won't be too many.

A day for finishing projects. First up, a plain but functional knit beanie, for charity:
Tumblr media
Details: Caron One Pound, “Midnight Blue,” size 8 needles (circular and dpn). Mistake Rib is my favorite.
More importantly, the blanket I crocheted for my daughter is finally all DONE:
Tumblr media
Details: Cascade 220 Superwash, Gold Fusion and Dark Violet, size F crochet hook. Identical (save for colors used) to the blanket I crocheted for my son.
Both completed just in time for the 100° F weather forecast tomorrow….

A Scarf Askew
Tomorrow, I will have been knitting for exactly one month - and I have an update!
Yesterday, I finished her! A scarf unlike any other (that's for sure!). The colours were dictated by the BEAUTIFUL Bergere yarn I found in a charity shop, which was part of the fun! The plain green and purple were an online purchase to complement. I'd love to do this a couple more times and make scarves of different blues and pinks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Without a pattern, I cast on way too many stitches so ended up frogging the first six inches worth of rows - but I'm so glad I did, otherwise it would have been a monster. It looks a lot more sensible this size! The main challenges were working with such frizzy yarn (beautiful halo, though) and actually knitting in straight rectangles rather than whatever freeform, billowing nebula I ended up creating. My tension went wonky with the purple panel, but I simply stitched up the holes and you can't really tell unless you look close. I decided to add tassels into the mix so had to acquire a set of crochet hooks - but again, I'm so glad I bothered! They ended up being pretty fun once I got the hang of it!
Finally! I used a garment steamer for blocking - which made all the difference in the overall 'quality', if I may generously use that word. Crazy how much longer it grew though! Rougly 60 inches has blown to 88 inches! Clearly need to be more careful in the future if I don't want a jumper to look like I knitted it for a giant.
Ooh and - my partner, exited about a new gadget in the flat, broke the steamer after a single use when fiddling around, so I'm already in the market for a new one if anyone has any recs!
Overall, I'd say this was a success. It is definitely a functional scarf. You look at it and you think "that is a scarf!" It is in no way perfect, but I wore it out today and felt a million dollars because it was something I made and put hours into. I have no idea how long projects are meant to take for beginner-knitters with full time jobs and other hobbies, but I feel like this was pretty good going.
Currently, I've cast on practice yarn so I can improve stockinette, 1x1 and 2x2 rib stitch, and I'm itching to learn how to increase and decrease. It's freaking me out so much, and I just want to be able to do it! Not to be dramatic, but it feels like such a mountain to climb! I've bought a pattern for a hat (and a pattern for a jumper!) but I'm not starting either until I'm more confident with ribs and shaping.
So there we have it. First, chaos mitten. Now a scarf askew. I hope to be able to show you a hat that looks like a hat in the not too distant future! It comes with a bobble maker (!) so all being well, it could be pretty cute!

In 2021, while struggling with my disability, I came across a post on Facebook. The post was about a person speaking about how they made scarves for the unhoused.
This post sparked something in me, and as of 2023, I have been doing just that for 2 years. With some help from my mom I taught myself how to crochet scarves. Over the past 2 years, crocheting scarves has become my favorite hobby, and become a great way to cope with my disability.
Though I know this project won't end homelessness, it will provide one more layer of warmth for those struggling during the cold months. I'm glad to know that I am able to do something to help my fellow humans, and at the same time it's something that helps me as well.
This year alone, I have created 12 scarves.
If you'd like to support me and what I do, consider commissioning a scarf from me. I currently offer single and two tone scarves for $54 and $66 respectively.
Every commission furthers my charitable work. Each one allows me to make at least two scarves for those in need in addition to the commissioned piece. For every piece you purchase, two scarves will be donated to this year's chosen charities. Any earnings will go towards additional charitable work. They will allow me to purchase more yarn for scarves and to donate items such as crayons, colored pencils, coloring books and other items that patients can enjoy to Brylin hospital.
This year (2023) I am donating to Friends of the Night People, a charitable organization here in Buffalo NY, and the VA in Cleveland OH.
Please email me at: [email protected]
Edit 10/23/2023:
I have created a log to track whether I am open for commission!

Subtle Kids' Crochet Hat Pattern
Kids’ Subtle Crochet Hat Pattern Crochet Hat Pattern This crochet hat has been designed to make the hat secondary on a kid’s body. Most of us adults know how peer pressure and bullying happened in the winter in wearing hats. This design is called the Granny Striped Hat Pattern designed for two age categories. Ages 2 – 4 years old and 6 – 8 years old. The tender age of 6 – 8 when kids are in…

The Grad Life - day 27/50 (14/10/23)
Such a cosy Saturday: reading with my morning coffee and one of my favourite mugs (current read is Assassins Fate by Robin Hobb), charity shopping with my mother, finishing up a crochet project (the end is in sight!), and grocery shopping with my Dad. It’s noticeably colder and I’m loving it, I missed the feeling and the smell (?) of the chilly evenings.

Dead people keep donating their craft projects to the shop I work in and it's making me sad.
Well, not dead people. The living relatives of the dead people.
The amount of half finished crafts which are given to us is upsetting, in all honesty. It's good that we don't recieve the finished cardigans someone has knitted or the crochetted hats, or the quilts or the hand-made dolls, because it makes me think that the people who are going through their parent's/parent's sibling's/sibling's/friend's stuff are keeping the completed bits. I do still look at the sleeves, pompoms, mis-matched patchworks and wish that the person had time to complete them.
Two huge boxes of quilting supplies were donated recently, by two different people on two different days. There was a half-finished English Paper Piecing quilt among it, all in pieces no larger than 30x30cm. They all looked like scraps of other, more cohesive quilts. There were blocks made to look like animals, there were blocks which looked like they were for a baby blanket. There was a cotton bag which had nothing in, but probably had someone's money in at some point. There were loads of cloth face masks, all unused but pressed neatly and in little plastic bags with 'handmade with love' stickers on them.
I don't see any reason why someone would donate their half finished project to my charity shop unless they didn't have a say in what happened to it. I think they would like it if someone else finished their project.
We can't sell them. We're not supposed to sell face masks, even if they're new. We can't sell 20 scrap pieces of fabric. We can't sell someone's half finished quilt, not really, unless there is someone else who is willing to buy all the pieces.
I make quilts sometimes, though. I keep thinking about how cool it would be to make and own a dead person's quilt.

I am once again going to give myself too much to do... So I've just been invited to a coworker's for a little get together this Saturday before she has her baby, and another pregnant coworker will be there. I've made hats for one but not the other so now I'm going to hurriedly make the second set of hats. It will be fine though because one will be my fave hat pattern that I make all the time, and another will be crochet so hopefully quick.
Never mind I've already said I'll help out with a charity crochet project for Wednesday. And I have to finish painting an umbrella frame for a crochet parasol wedding gift for next Wednesday...
I mean it's all possible but I don't make life easy for myself do I?

I'm making a cardigan for myself for the first time! However, I'm real bad at picking colours and I think it'd be fun to let random people decide, so pick a colour, any colour.
I have a lot of scraps from past present projects and second hand yarn buys (charity shop my beloved), though Tumblr polls only have so many options so I've just listed the simple colours, so feel free to comment on any specific colour combos you'd think would be cool!
The most picked colour(s) will be the main colours used in the design, lest will be the trim/cuff/other details.
For example if all you voted just red then the whole thing would be red but if it was an even split then the colours with be evenly used.
(I'll post the finished thing when I've made it!)

fibre arts
I wanted to do crochet but the repetitive motions are hell on my hands so I decided to get into weaving instead because I don't have a sewing machine. I just made a frame loom with a bunch of thumbtacks and a picture frame, but after making a phone sized piece of fabric with an embroidery needle I realised why weaving shuttles were invented. It's painfully slow with a needle. But I'm not using my good yarn while figuring this out so I'm not too fussed.
Cooking + baking
My mother didn't let me cook by myself till I was 10 and I had a children's cookbook so I used to look at recipes and think, I'm going to make this stuff one day. And then I did. So whenever I eat something nice I like to try to make it myself with the ingredients I have at home. I randomly became allergic to a lot of foods just before the pandemic so this experience of following recipes and experimenting was helpful.
Stories
I like fictional narratives it's even in my bio. Books, webcomics, TV, film, worldbuilding projects, my siblings recounting what happened at work or school. I can go weeks without leaving my house and even at home barely leave my room or bed for health reasons, so my life is very boring and hearing about other's own is nice.
Drawing
I don't draw that often anymore but I like to draw mostly people or faces, like I drew my profile image. I'm extremely rusty now so I ideally make text based art because it's more maths less drawing a stroke over and over till you get it right
My rings
I wear rings all the time because of a death the kid cosplay I did for school/charity. It's a very silly reason to have started wearing my signature jewellery but it's like that sometimes

Redacted Masterlist (Update #9)
Exactly what it says on the tin, organized by characters. (Specifically, if they feature prominently, not just if it’s from their listener character’s perspective, so the same title will probably appear multiple times, though only linked once to keep things from getting overwhelming)
The Pups AU has its own segment at the bottom!
The page on my blog with the Masterlist has also been updated.
