My Analysis of the Best Paired Endings in 3H (Part 3: Claude/Hilda)

Byleth: (His easy smile is striking… But that smile doesn't reach his eyes…)

Claude is a Leo, a fire sign ruled by the Sun. Leo traits include being confident, comfortable being the center of attention, drama-adoring, ambitious, loyal, fiercely protective of their nearest and dearest, generous, luxury-loving, sunny, and big-hearted. Like Edelgard, his goal was to usher in the dawn of a new age as supreme leader.

He bears the Crest of Riegan, which is associated with The Moon arcana. The general meaning of The Moon is that everything is not as it seems. It is also the Major Arcana of intuition. It tells you that something about a situation or person in your life is not what it appears to be, and you need to trust what your instincts are telling you in order to see past this illusion.

Claude: When I first saw you wield the Sword of the Creator, I wanted to use your power to my advantage. I wanted to use you to make my dream of a new world come true. But before long, I realized what I really wanted was to see that new world…with you by my side. I still feel that way, you know. I always will. That's why I have to leave.

Claude was taking advantage of female Byleth's romantic interest in him to achieve his dream. He admitted as much himself in his S-Support. That explained why his Goddess Tower scene was all about his political ambitions and lacked any genuine romantic undertones. Supposedly he fell in love with her somewhere along the way. But something felt off to me. He couldn't even attend Byleth's coronation?

Byleth & Claude After ascending the throne as the first leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan, Byleth sought to rebuild the war-torn towns and villages and to help guide the reformation of the Church of Seiros. After a few months of peace, remnants of the Imperial army joined with those who slither in the dark and marched upon the capital city of Derdriu. The new kingdom lacked the power to repel the invaders, but when defeat seemed imminent, a battle cry rang out from the east. Claude, the newly-crowned King of Almyra, led a mighty army that broke through the rebel forces with ease. This show of solidarity forever altered the course of history, heralding a new age of unity.

If he is paired with Petra, he postpones his return to Almyra for years due to his love. With Lysithea, his love for her compels him to give up the throne entirely. Even when he does return to Byleth like he promised, it's to defeat the remnants of the Imperial army and TWSITD. That earns him the title "King of Unification". But there's nothing in their paired ending to indicate a marital union.

Claude did care about Byleth as more than just a tool. But to me, it felt like the writers were trying to portray that he didn't love her romantically, albeit in a very subtle way. Which I actually found to be a very great idea. He definitely had a reason to marry Byleth for political purposes, considering his dream. And I liked that his reputation as a schemer finally amounted to something in the end after all. Besides, he had more chemistry with Hilda, anyway.

Hilda: It's just a legend, sure…but I prefer to be cautious about such things. One of the guys was pretty handsome, and he came from a good family… But that doesn't really tell you what a person's like on the inside. I want a life partner who's good-hearted and good-looking.

Claude is a very flirty person in general and has a lot of chemistry with most of the girls he can Support with. But he was particularly flirty with Hilda. Even their C-Support was surprisingly sexual. But their connection gradually developed into more than just physical attraction. The tagline for the game was, "Sweet memories twisted by time's cruel hand". Claude has many sweet memories of his childhood and Hilda is the only one who takes an interest in them.

Because of this, she was the only girl he offered to bring home. Claude is usually a very guarded young man who keeps his secrets close to his chest. He was afraid of his Almyran heritage being exposed because he's been the constant victim of racism. While Hilda made the occasional off-hand racist remark (moreso out of ignorance than malice), Claude still offered to introduce her to his family, showing his trust in her character and her ability to be judge people for who they are on the inside, not their heritage.

Holst: But what if the next king of Almyra turns out to be a kind and decent man? What if Hilda even likes him? Claude: Uh, if Hilda wants to marry that hypothetical heartthrob, I'm not gonna stop her. Look, what's all this really about? Holst: Apologies. My imagination ran free for a moment. If that is what Hilda wants, then I will not stand in her way either. Claude: Your imagination's definitely still running there. Holst: I'm just as worried about Hilda's future as I am about Leicester's—maybe even more so. Claude: I completely understand, so let me just say this… I believe that both Leicester's and Hilda's futures are as bright as they can be. All I ask is that you trust me.

Claude and Hilda don't need Byelth to choose the Golden Deer house to get married. Golden Wildfire proves that. Holst approves of their relationship. His A-Support with Claude even foreshadowed the Claude/Hilda paired ending. So, it definitely feels like it's the one Claude ship that's most rooted in "canon".

Hilda: I don't understand why anyone would want to risk their life for someone else. When you die, no matter how you died, it's over. To me, it's more important to enjoy life. We only live once, after all. It's a waste to spend all your time working and being responsible, right?

Hilda was the only character I did not recruit on my AM New Game+. If I had to guess, I'd say she was probably not even gonna be recruitable outside her home route, similar to Dedue and Hubert. I left her behind because I didn't want Claude to be alone. But also because she truly belonged on that bridge in Derdriu defending him. It's the ultimate fulfillment of her character arc, showing how she's changed from a spoiled and lazy girl into a mature woman who will try her best to not let down the people she cares about.

Hilda and Claude were the only lord and retainer I felt comfortable shipping because their differing social status had practically no effect on how they related to each other. Hilda could see through his fake smile because she was just as manipulative, constantly flirting to get people to do things for her. In CF, she died for Claude because she had fun with him and found him sexy, not because it was her duty as a Crest bearer. Claude expected her to run, but she stood her ground.

As a lord, Claude was in the middle. He was ambitious like Edelgard but not quite as ruthless. He shared Dimitri's distaste for war, but would compromise those ideals in pursuit of his goals. What I liked about Hilda as a retainer was that she supported him emotionally, but she also challenged him on his decisions when it was necessary. She questioned whether being king was really what he wanted when he was a natural free spirit at heart.

Claude: You and I may not hold any grudges, but if you look to our history, you'll see it was the Kingdom who tossed us to the wolves first. When our people were fighting for independence from the Empire, Faerghus attacked and conquered Leicester for themselves.

Claude certainly had good intentions, but in the end, he was perhaps a bit too motivated by self-interest. In VW, he realized that, which is why he stepped down in favor of Byleth. In GW, there is a chapter called "The End of the Alliance". Claude becomes king of the Federation and allies with Edelgard. He announces his intention to eliminate the church and invade the Kingdom using historical disputes as a justification, however questionable that may be.

Claude: If you're going to lead Fódlan, then the Alliance lords will follow you. Back in the day, the Alliance split off from the Kingdom. I'm just putting us back together again.

In AM, there is a cutscene called "The End of the Alliance". Claude puts aside all historical animosity and willingly unifies with the Kingdom. Why the change of heart? He admitted he wouldn't do anything unless he had something to gain, but Byleth and Dimitri selflessly came to his rescue. And because of that, he gives his Hero's Relic to Dimitri, something he did not to for Edelgard. Symbolically this gesture is so important because he always thought he needed the power of the relics to realize his dream. But he doesn't.

Claude & Hilda Trusting the affairs to his comrades with whom he had fought, Claude departed for his homeland. While in Fódlan he was no more than a noble, upon returning to his homeland of Almyra, he was a prince of the realm. Having grown strong and mature, he gained recognition among the royal family and eventually wielded influence in national politics. Several years later, the king of Almyra retired, and Claude succeeded to the throne. Simultaneously, a queen was introduced – none other than Hilda. Leveraging her brother's support, she unexpectedly demonstrated diplomatic prowess, contributing to the establishment of diplomatic relations between Almyra and Fódlan. Furthermore, with two consecutive queens from Fódlan, the values of Almyra began to evolve.

In AM, Claude's fate doesn't change much compared to VW. He still goes back to Almyra, presumably with Hilda if she wasn't recruited. So, I don't even think their VW paired ending would be any different in the AM timeline. And their marital union is what will help Claude achieve his dream. He didn't need Byleth, the Hero's Relics, or to become supreme leader. Marrying Hilda opens Fódlan's Locket. This is the only ending where Hilda gets involved in politics instead of making accessories, but it is better for her character development, and I think she'd be happier that way in the end.

Isle kid Moodboards revamped part 2;

Marya Grigorievna Rasputin, the 20 year old daughter of Grigori Efimovic Rasputin and Baba Yaga (bartok the magnificent).

One of the medics of Harriet Hook's crew.

Lover of skeletons, magic, taxidermy, bugs, roses, and whiskey cake.

Not too great st speaking English.

Bestfriend of Big Murphy and Claudine Frollo.

Currently single.

Reza Vizer, the 15 year old son of the former Royal Astronomer of Agrabah and a harem girl as well as the adoptive son of Mozenrath and Sadira. Older brother of Omar and Alya.

He is the forensics expert of the Badun Detective Agency and is rivals with Carlos De Vil as well as a student at Dragon Hall.

He's good with swords, daggers, guns, tea, and breaking and entering, and He always acts like he is the smartest in the room (which he is most of the time) and doesn't like it when that title is challenged because he has earned that title.

He also doesn't like it when people treat him like he's less than Carlos, which is why he didn't join the Anti-heroes club (because it was being run by Yen Sid who is not found of him at all).

He is dating Yzla Sorcerer of Enchancia.

Claudine Esther-May Frollo, the 19 year old daughter of Claude Frollo.

She is homeschooled and apart of Harriet's crew, the Bad Apples, and the Anti-heroes club. She is also the bell ringer at Dragon Hall.

She is left handed and a redhead who loves science, art, music, sweets, and things being fair. Which of course while paired with her beauty did not bode well for her due to how her father is.

She works at her father's crepes shop and is dreaming of the day she can escape with her friends.

She has a thing for Lefou Deux.

Richard 'Rick' Perseus Ratcliffe, the 21 year old son of Governor John Ratcliffe.

He is apart of Harriet's crew, The LeGume Hunting Club, and The Bad Apples.

He and his dad do not get along at all due to many factors—like his dad being racist and naming him after his dog. If anyone dare mention the origin of his middle name, they will get a black eye from him.

He had his own pug named Prometheus.

Once when he and Clay Clayton were young and rough housing, he accidentally knocked the other man out of a second story window at Hook's inlet. They're still friends though, surprisingly.

He also has a habit of saving people from water sources like John Smith, much to his father's annoyance.

He has two younger siblings (Rachel and Rory) and is very protective of them as well as the kids of his father's former crewmates who got stuck on the isle with him.

He is dating Mad Maddy.

Claymore 'Clay' Comrade Clayton, The 20 year old son of William Clayton.

He is a member of the Bad Apples, Harriet's crew, and The LeGume Hunting Club.

Though unlike his dad he doesn't enjoy poaching or being crueler than necessary when hunting because it makes him uncomfortable, so he avoids doing it.

He loves graffiti and sailing and the jungle as well as tree climbing, rope swinging—on vines—, and partying. He also likes carving his intails into things and rough housing.

Especially with Rick and Anthony.

He and Rick once overdid it and he ended up getting thrown through a window, which no one has let them live down since.

He and his dad have a volatile relationship, which is arguably better than what most kids on the isle have, though those in Auardon would argue that that's still bad. He gets along alot better with his aunt and brothers though and has no clue who his mother maybe.

He has no problem with speaking his mind, which gets him in trouble often. He has tons of weapons as well as a stuffed grollia and would get along swimmingly with Tarzan and Jane, and their family. Especially their son, Taylor, who is just as rambunctious as he is.

He doesn't have the best grades but he's a good person and arguably Ginny's conscious, and that's all that matters, right?

Also he's terrified of getting hung like his dad and the idea of drowning again.

He's protective of his younger brothers, Cassius and Wilson, and is dating Ginny Gothel.

Jadeana 'Jade' of Agrabah, the 19 year old daughter of Nasira and the niece of Jafar.

She is in Harriet's crew and is the messenger of the isle, so no one really messes with her.

She's a bit of a loner but when she cares about people, she cares about them deeply—i.e. Jay. She'd help him steal so he could stock Jafar's shop quicker and so he would get hit or have to sleep outside. She rarely ever goes near Jafar's shop—since her mom who isn't all bad strictly forbade it—but when she does, it's to see Jay.

She was heartbroken when Jay left without saying goodbye but slowly over time she's gotten angry and bitter and resentful because she thinks he forgot about her.

She likes crocodile wrestling since it's an easy way to get out her aggression and she has two pets—a snake named Hassan and a parrot named Tygo.

She has magic but goes to Dragon Hall because she thinks the witch school is pointless on the isle.

Oh and she's dating Jonas Olympian (a member of Uma's crew).

Hermione 'Hermie' Leona Bing, the 14 year old daughter of The Ringmaster and Miss Atlantis.

She is a member of the Badun Detective Agency and as well as the Anti-heroes club.

She was an orphan by 7 and left to run what was left of her father’s circus on the isle.

She lives by herself with her animals in her father’s old trailer by the woods where the circus tents and trailers are located.

She is known as an animal whisperer and a Jack of all trades on the isle because she can do nearly every circus act there is.

She obsessed with circus related things—ESPECIALLY clowns.

She is in denial about the true nature of her parents' deaths and is emotionally and mentally unstable due them.

She has quite a sweet tooth—especially when it's traditionally considered circus food.

She collects glass figures as well as odd/deformed furniture, toys, and photos (along with just vintage photos in general) and loves colorful things.

She also loves reading, filing, painting, dagger throwing, acrobatics, gymnastics, dancing, playing games, and taking care of animals.

Her and Eddie Balthazar are dating.

Edmund 'Eddie' Seraiah Balthazar, the 15 year old son of Sarah Dear /Aunt Sarah and Edgar Balthazar.

He is apart of the Anti-heroes club and the Badun Detective agency.

He has alot of old school hobbies like croquet and crochet, golf, birdwatching, and collecting things. Things like stamps, coins, and bugs. He likes reading and listening to music and writing and he loves picnics, sewing, and knitting.

He had a litter of kittens that he adores as well as a motorcycle.

He also likes red wine, coffee, tea, champagne, slushie, hard candy, chicken pot pie, cigar, and toast with beans. Not that his parents know that he likes alcohol.

He usually shows little more than indifference to those outside his inner circle and has been taking care of his elderly parents (and their pets) since he was 9.

He is dating Hermie Bing.

Gaston Junior and Gaston the 3rd LeGume, the 21 year old sons of Gaston LeGume and Laurette. Aka Junior and Bronze.

They are hard heads lacking in education because of their father and can hold one hell of a grudge (as well as an ox) but have hearts of gold. When it comes to the people they care about that is.

They are both members of Harriet's crew and have many shared (and differing) hobbies.

They are very protective of their little brother (and sister) and their little cousins, even if they love getting under their skin at times.

Junior is dating Daphne Tremaine and Bronze is dating Sammy Smee.

Also Junior has a bad leg from trying to ram through the barrier with his dad.

Gemma Enchtra LeGume, the 3 year old (by d3) daughter of Gaston and the Enchantress. She is the younger half sister of the Gaston twins and Gil as well as the younger cousin of LeFou Deux, Claire Bimbette, and La Foux Doux (by default).

She is every bit as good, innocent, and bubbly as Gil is. She loves Magic, fruit, candy, roses, lifting rocks, animals, the forest, mirrors, and adores her older siblings and cousins with all her heart. She also loves her parents too despite not knowing them all too well.

Oh and she likes weight-lifting, though her elder family members don't allow her to do it.

And she loves mirrors as well and carries around the doll that her brothers and LeFou Deux made her.

She is my oc based on the toddler from d1.

You obviously don't need to, but could I request headcanons for Homelander x latina!Reader? She is very sweet, a people pleaser, polite, affectionate, and very in love with him, but she's latina. ohhhhh man this reader sounds like a dream. i can see him being drawn in by that type of gentleness, the willingness to cater to him. as much as he really needs someone who will stand up to him, he is a fool for love. for sincere, unafraid tenderness. if she wasn't afraid of him, he would be hard pressed not to fall real deep.

and if that's the case, yes, he could totally date an immigrant. he would probably develop a complex. think claude frollo in hunchback of notre dame. extremely 'i will convert her to my ways, and she will be my perfect bride' type bullshit

is he still quite ignorant and an asshole even when he doesn't mean to be? probably! he has a ton of that shit internalized. could he be taught? most assuredly. he wants nothing more than to please the people who fulfill his needs, and he will take it to an extreme. think of taking down the plane bc madelyn was blackmailed.

i think it's good to remember that stormfront was NOT his type at all, and he didn't believe in her bullshit, but he DID like the validation and the attention. he loves the idea of love. if homelander's needs are being met, he will ignore pretty much everything else.

YES! this is not comprehensive AT ALL. also i’m only including completed fics bc i know some people don’t like to read wips, and also i’m trying to keep this on the hidden gems side, so stuff you won’t find on the first few pages by kudos/bookmarks. dmcl has so many good deep cuts!!

absolutely favorite beloveds:

ghosting by antimonicacid: really fantastic character study for claude and dimitri. honestly has one of my favorite pre ts dimitris in a fic bar none maybe. this has very quintessential dmcl energy bc theyre so… gentle w each other in this fic? idk i love it. great dedue cameo

the last chapter is explicit but not… necessary for resolution so if it’s not you’re thing you can not read that part.

the ground all around, it was always holy by themorninglark: really beautiful pre ts dimitri character study from claude’s perspective. the writing in this fic is stunning, and the development of their relationship is so compelling and wonderful. this one sort of breaks my heart but it’s not sad the writing just kind of makes me ache a bit.

dreams, they’re for those who sleep by longboyzone: really intimate moment near the end of white clouds that really captured me. i’ve reread this one a lot and i think abt it. also features gentle dmcl. would recommend the other two one shots by this author as well. they’re all really good

celestially written by aetherae: this fic is so good to me i’m obsessed with it? the whole series actually. it just hits so many dmcl buttons for me but basically it’s a joint route vw/am fic where claude takes the hit for dimitri after gronder rather than rodrigue. except like instead of being abt any of that it’s like 13k of people gossiping abt when dmcl is actually gonna get together and it’s. so. good. the outsider pov dmcl in this one just hits idk what else to say. they also have a bunch of other dmcl fics i’ve read that are really good but they’ve written like 30+ fe fics so i’d say just check their profile out!

lion in the mist by trilies: this fic has really stuck so me since i first read it probably because it’s so unique? this has claude (+ the deer) coming across dimitri midskip while traveling to fraldarius. i really love how both dimitri and claude are handled in this fic, idk you can tell the author is handling them both deliberately and with care? and the atmosphere this fic creates is really fantastic. they also are rather prolific so i’d check out their page as well. bc they have so much good dmcl

wear your colours by metallic_sweet: okay i said i wouldn’t do anything you could find on the first few pages of the ao3 tag but this was my first joint route fic and it lives in my heart for a lot of reasons. honest to god some of the best fe3h world building i’ve read in a fic like fodlan feels like a place here that contains 3 nations with distinct cultures. also this fic really takes seriously how dark the world of fodlan truly is without making dmcl ‘darker’ than they are as well? it’s a delicate balance and they do it fantastically. has an unfinished sequel (also worth reading—the whole series is, but dmcl isn’t the focus of every fic) that breaks my heart every day.

princes of silver and gold: the fantastic joint route time travel fic by @travelling-on-the-octopath. this fic my beloved <3 s has an insane handle on dialogue and scene pacing, and some stunning writing. check it out!!!

golden dawn: golden route that starts out at the prologue and completely reworks pre ts. i love the dmcl in this fic they’re so good. also has edeIeth if that’s something you do or do not enjoy, AND mind the chapter warnings if you have triggers

to this vow, i hold fast: this is a post azure moon arranged marriage fic and i adore it. probably everything abt it? there’s a lot of platonic affection in this fic which is really my jam in particular but i love how well dmcl is developed and how the extended cast is incorporated

Help! I have a new fave!!! PLUST's MIKOTO AMAMITSU

Mik's story was so good. Freakin hilarious and cute but also involved sentimental themes and emphasized on not giving up your dreams and aspirations. And how much it's comforting to work on your goals together with your partner/friends.

I love this title. It looks very promising so far. After reading Mikoto, I'd recommend it and the guy to everyone who has a similar taste. I'll list some of my forever favs (from Love 365) below so you'll know what I'm into.

MPD CTY, ASA, FILA, RMD, TLH... and PLUST (safe to add now. I think) So you can predict the themes I like now ;)

It took me 3hrs 47 min to binge Mikoto's story which I managed to do during different hours of the day. Spent about 240 hearts to unlock every heart choice and the SHE plus bonus track.

The art and the OST are gorgeous. I wish there's a steam release where I can buy the whole thing in one package with the OST. The OST is that good. It's so worth the effort (in reading a long story with a slow burn plot.)

(Oh this is a slow burn plot, mind you. And I love the stuff lol) The MC is fair enough. At times I cringed a bit, wondered why she wosn't protest when the guys casually get touchy with her. (Oh she does at times but she could grow more strong).

The fan service thing sounded unrealistic but it was still hilarious and cute. I was laughing falling in love not just with Mikoto but all the guys as a whole. They are all amazing. I think I'm gonna read every route. tho at present I have my eyes set on Mik, Wataru alone.

Guys like Claude aren't my type but I'm curious about him. I think Kotoha is a sweet guy, a tsundere. And Ryogo. Well I love childhood friend trouples so I'm gonna read his MS. He was super sweet in Mik story but the guy who stole the show (when it comes to side characters) was: Zeus.

The ThrOne guys. At first I didn't understand MC's obsession, specifically as they described the group is cold to its fans, but then I understood. That's not the scenario. Zeus has me very fascinated. I'll say I like him already. And his attachment to MC means we MAY get to see sparks flying between him and Mik. (I'd love to see Mik getting jealous haha)

Now I ramble about Mik here: Mikoto is a charmer but he's not overbearing or commanding. I only saw a trace of the pushy guys I played and liked in him. Just a trace. He apologizes when he's wrong. He thanks the MC. He encourages her!?

I expected Mikoto to be like Guy or more like Ikesen Nobunaga (both my faves) but he isn't.

Mik is so refreshing, so chill. Just like TLH Suzu was, captivating, with just one main story! He's blunt but not condescending. He's cheeky but with a sweet awkward side to him. He tries to shoulder his burden alone. The slow reveal of his true personality was a treat. I was rooting for him and MC! There were so many moments: them walking the ramp, rehearsing lines... Watching the show a pop star acted in, with the guy, and sharing a highfive? Haha. That's freakin cute. I love Mik and his Ducky.

So by the End of the SHE I'm super content and looking forward to MC and Mik's budding romance to blossom more. Which I expect to happen in MS 2. And anticipating more of the guys while hoping this title wouldn't take forever to get updated. (Well I understand making games isnt easy. I'm willing to wait tbh. But I see some title updates getting rolled out quickly, so)

Ugh! I went into rant mode there. Will post more content tomorrow. (Not much tho and not many spoilers. Don't wanna hit the game's earnings coz... well that's what I do. Be moderate. I think nicely done posts/shared stuff actually boost sales and earn more fans. THAT is what I try to do on my blog. Share. Share. But be nice.)

Reading your thoughts on TWSITD and I can’t help but agree that the fact they’re presented as this unambiguously evil monolith instead of like, an actual cult/society/place where people actually LIVE is a missed opportunity. My kingdom for a storyline where there’s an Agarthan parallel to Edelgard and Claude—a revolutionary who knows their people could be so much MORE but the current system needs to burn so they can build something better.

yesss that would’ve been so COOL, there’d be so much room to play with all the complications of taking down a cult/similar. Plus, it grants the opportunity to introduce a wonderfully complex character to the mix—an Agarthan who not only wants their people to prosper, but who recognizes that the Agarthans are being kept from prospering due to their leaders.

Imagine them trying to convince their friends/family to help them in their endeavor (“We don’t have to keep following them, we can leave, life can be so much better for us”) only to be met with mixed responses. Some think they’re out of their mind or just being disastrously naïve, some understand their reasoning but aren’t willing to take the risk (“This life is already good enough, it has to be – it’s safer like this”). The Agarthan character cares about these people, a lot of them are folks they've grown up with; they can’t just lay them all upon the altar to achieve their dream.

Maybe the Agarthan is someone who snuck out of the underground on their own out of curiosity, or maybe they got lost while on an aboveground mission—point is, they started noticing differences between how they’d been taught to view the aboveground world and how it really is. Like a “damn, we’ve been missing out on all this?” sort of revelation. Making some aboveground friends would also be a good way to help change their worldview, get them a glimpse into outside cultures, etc.

Obviously they’d have a lot of internal back-and-forth on whether it’s actually worse Out There, trying to figure out how much they’ve been taught is true, all the while being fed the same propaganda and discouraged from questioning it. The actual topic of leaving would be even harder to work through, especially if all Agarthans have access to some sweet tech like what we see in Shambhala—a lot of them might not have many skills they could use to make a living in outside society. Once the thread’s been snagged, though, there’s little else to do but unravel.

The topside isn’t nearly as dangerous as it’s been made out to be. So why does their government keep saying it is? They’re supposed to be fighting to topple the Church so they can reclaim the surface, but there are already plenty of people up there—some who aren’t familiar with the Church, some who don’t even care. So why do they have to stay underground? Why do they have to keep fighting a battle that is slowly seeming less and less necessary?

Rotating in my brain at a very fast speed is the idea of this hypothetical Agarthan interacting with Rhea, Seteth, and Flayn (assuming they know they’re an Agarthan). Flayn is pretty compassionate and probably the most willing to get along with them of the three, but like…damn, there’s still a lot to unpack there. They might be able to appeal to Seteth a little through a “I don’t want to fight you, I just want to make things better for my friends/family” sort of reasoning; Flayn means the world to him, and though he’s not inclined to trust a descendant of the ones who put them through so much, he can at least empathize with wanting the best for your loved ones. As for Rhea…ngl I don’t see it going well under most circumstances. They would probably need Seteth, Flayn, and Byleth on their side for Rhea to be anything other than 100% paranoid.

Interacting with the three of them would probably be good for the Agarthan, though, considering how Nabateans seem to be viewed by them at large. They go in thinking about all the times they’ve heard the Children of the Goddess described as monsters, how they can’t be trusted, how they’re a blight upon Fódlan, but…dude. These are just people? These are just people. Sure sure they can turn into dragons or whatever, but [waving arm at Flayn] that is a CHILD?

sorry for the ramble but man, that kinda storyline would’ve been both excellent and very compelling considering how well it ties into the overarching theme of “good people can still find themselves on opposing sides of a conflict”

A long time ago, i broke up with my best friend.

But since i enjoyed being alone so much, I felt amicably ghosted. No hard feelings on my end. I never found out about hers or the why.

Then i happened to walk behind her and her new best friend at a school retreat, where they just shit talked the retreat speaker's vulnerability. And i realized what a relief it was to not have to pretend to be ok with her comments anymore. And i realized how much i had smiled, nodded, tried to see her side of things, and have always been simply in denial. I could never believe in other people NOT acting in their best nature. I had to have faith in people being good...because when in situations or relationships i couldn't get out of, the only way to survive, was for me to honestly believe it could not be as bad as even the slightest bad faith interpretations. I couldn't allow myself to believe a situation or relationship i was in, was bad. I have to nod along, smile, and be in internal denial with myself about my disagreements with others.

I say this, because when i watch myself constantly changing my mind, accepting all foods for thought, and just acting so gullible and easily influenced by every post from the FE3H fandom for the past few years, i feel i should admit that there is a voice in the back of my mind, that IS aware of my own opinions, and is unconfidently hanging on...but i just dont want to believe in bad faith interpretations of what others are posting. I don't want to believe I'm arrogant enough to know more and not need to listen to what others have to say, either. So i smile along with my best faith interpretations of them, and i say that i agree, or at least that i am persuaded. I make posts admitting that i am the gullible type. Because I really do get persuaded, and shove my personal opinions into my mind's back drawer.

Specifically right now, i just wanted to vent about how I've always preferred and headcanoned Dimiclaude as being sweet to each other. Dimitri is the proper, polite, and a little naieve, but later, idealistic prince, who adores Claude and gets the blushies from Claude's more bold demeanor. While Claude is internally fighting against the jaded experiences that the world has proven to him, vs the faith he has to have in humanity, in order to have the Hope necessary to move forward, beyond his trauma, all motivated by an inherently defiant, risk-taking personality he inherited from Tiana. Dimitri's instinctual, altruistic compassion serves as a glimmer of validation to all of Claude's Hopes about people, the world, and thus, his dream. Claude's imaginative practically in striving towards his dream feels wise, insightful, and admirable, seemingly-impossibly breaking through Dimitri's moments of despair. I headcanon Dimiclaude as having a lot of fondness for each other.

I've always had my own interpretations, but i feel like i let others' ideas steamroll thru them. I laugh along when other Dimiclaude shippers post about:

Claude being flirty. (He's playful, not flirty.)

Dimitri and Claude annoying each other. Like confusing Annoyance, for Passion, for Love. Straight out of an "enemies to lovers" plot. But instead of asserting that I don't like "enemies to lovers", i smile along. (Maybe i enjoyed the communal enthusiasm too much.)

Dimitri exasperated with Claude. I know Fire Emblem Engage had to portray all 3 lords as having friction with each other, to justify their bracelet's "Emblem of Rivals" name. But being critical and exasperated with Claude was Edelgard's thing. Dimitri is not like that. He's always been very welcoming, impressed, and had faith in Claude. Even that one time he overheard Claude's schemes for the Battle Of Eagle & Lion, he sounded so genuinely shocked with disbelief that Claude would do anything bad. If Fire Emblem Engage wanted to justify the "Emblem of Rivals" name by portraying friction between the 3 Lords, it's supposed to go: Claude says something jokingly, Edelgard is exasperated with him, Dimitri sincerely believes Claude's words too quickly/literally, then Edelgard critiques Dimitri's naivete. That's even how their relationship dynamics were portrayed in one of their first introductory cutscenes together in the FE3H canon.

All of those things listed above, were funny in the moment. Whether in a fanfic, a posted headcanon, or even in Fire Emblem Engage. And it was fun, jumping in on all the fangirling over those silly moments. But they weren't really indicative of the original Claude and Dimitri FE3H canon portrayals that I fell for. It was fun to fangirl along with the community. But that's not how I really believe Dimiclaude to be. Or at least, not how I personally prefer to see them as. Other people may prefer to see them as flirty, annoying each other, and Dimitri exasperated with Claude. And yes, it's still funny sometimes, even to me. A quick fanart or fancomic of those things are hilarious. But that's not really how I personally see Dimiclaude. I don't ascribe to those portrayals, but at the time, it was fun to laugh along.

But last July (2022), i had had my last straw. The majority of the fandom was fangirling about Dimiclaude just bullying each other and that being peak entertainment. ...Bullying is one of my biggest pet peeves. I have dropped numerous, extremely popular, extremely well-made anime series for portaying too much bullying. I don't find it entertaining. I find it triggering. In fact, it used to make me instantaneously go into an almost-violent rage. It still faintly makes me feel the need to enact physical violence. I don't want Bullying in my Dimiclaude. Enough teasing from Claude to make Dimitri blush, yes. But not them being sharply biting towards each other.

And this was already amid prevalent headcanons/jokes in the fandom about constantly teasing, debasing, and humiliating Claude. Bringing Claude "down a peg" has become others' popular headcanons. Whether being made the fool or the butt of jokes by Cyril, Felix, or any number of characters, it's become far too popular for my comfort to watch Claude so frequently thought of as just the butt of jokes. Someone to reveal as foolish and not as cool as he acts. I've even gotten tired of some headcanons about Dimitri making Claude blush. It was fine when it was for emotionally touching reasons, but headcanons where Dimitri exposes Claude as just a fool and exasperatedly putting up with it, had become common at one point. And I have to start admitting that it wasn't to my tastes.

So i think it's time i assert MY preferred headcanons, instead of just smiling along. I realized recently---after seeing a disillusioned Dimiclaude shipper's post expressing my SAME fatigue with this "gleeful demeaning of Claude" that has become the fandom's fun recently---that i should stop believing in the best in people's own headcanon posts. I need to stop wasting time, trying to convince myself that "they dont mean it as bad as it sounds". I just need to admit that i just have different headcanons from a vast majority of the Dimiclaude fandom, and they are just enjoying this ship in a completely different way from me. I had just wanted to join a sense of communal fangirling. But i need to accept that though we are in the same ship fandom, we are enthusiastic about very different things. Maybe even fans of completely different things that have the same name: Dimiclaude.

Well, actually i love Claude more than Dimitri, so maybe i should start using "Claumitri" or "Claudimi". 💛🦌🏹💛

He has 2 he likes a lot the first one been Marie Joséphine Charlotte du Val d'Ognes (1786–1868) by Marie Denise Villers and Bouquet of Sunflowers by Claude Monet

The first one because for some reason it reminder him to how he view himself "always focusing on his work... on his studio by himself" (a bit of a bitter sweet memory) the second one because his favorite flowers are sunflowers and he is always drawing them, they bring him joy and makes him very happy

Lets said... the man has not much of clothing options and all of them always have some paint stain on it, he is always feeling cold so he wear long big clothes. His shoes options are his sleepers or sandals.... yes just 2.. If he is dating someone he will start to worry what to wear because he doesn't want to give a bad impression but his fashion sense is very bad so he will ask for advice. He will always try his best to looks decent!

He will try to be casual about the clothes choose, will bring a tote bag because gotta carry stuff if you need it, tennis and shorts he will might go for a change wearing pants or jeans but his always to go are "short" it makes him feel more confortable

Kaede is a romantic soul, so he will always try to do his best for the date to be the best and perfect, he will shower you with compliments and silly lil things how amazing you are, he might get you something cute to wear like an accesorie or something if you are up to that. His date ideas include, going to a fair, go with him! he will be super happy! like you see this man tired all the time? BAM!! suddenly a burst of energy! he will tell you about the place, the games, the food about everything! he will try to win you those fair toys (might not look like it but he is pretty good at those so have for sure you will bring home one of those big plushie and other prices, he always win on those)

If you want something more relaxed he will take you to a nice place to enjoy the view, relax, eat something and cuddle with him (don't cuddle to much he might fall sleep! good luck waking him up!), if you like something in particular he will take you there, like this man will move mountains to take you there!!

the third option is one he rarely brings... unless the person is really interested in him and likes what he does, since he knows how art is for many people and how troublesome could be he will do a small "crafty date" by this he mean he will want you to try a craft or your choose or his choose, the idea is "Doesn't matter the result what matters is that you create something without thinking, just be you" even him he will just do it for fun (finger painting, drawing with dirt, whatever), he wont take it as he seriously as he usually will do with his work, he will just do some wonky work and give it to you if you liked it haha you might not even create anything if you are just playing around with paint he just want to have fun and share something he really likes

Have for sure he will go pick you up on his motorcycle and he will take you anywhere on it (he just like his partner to hold into him, he will try to hold your hand a loooot during the date). His date ideas usually are a "gaming arcade" he is pretty good at rythm games so he will ask you to play "DDR" with him, he wont necessary will want to win those arcade ticket just to have fun with you, if both happened to won those tickets he will ask for the most silly price, plastic sword? yep! heart glittery sunglasses? yeeep, fake mustachio? he will get it, stupid shaped hat? good luck making him to take it off for the rest of the date haha

Second option is only if the person is up to it, like a chill day at the house, movies, watching anime, games, doing make up or whatever, he wont force it but he actually enjoy cooking and baking a lot, if he makes you food or some baking good, he is reaaaaaaally into you he just want the closeness and fun of the person during this

The third option is a Disco rolling skating! remember how I said he likes closeness? well this is the perfect thing for this! dude likes dancing, he likes doing this kind of silly things, can't do any of that? no problem he will teach you how! just spend time with him. Dude likes to make you laugh but if someone makes fun of you, will tell them to F*** off and mind their own business, he got your back just be silly as much as you want with him.

She is more of a classic date thingy, she enjoys picnics and beach dates, just take her to somewhere pretty or a special place for you and she will be super happy, picnics she will be more than happy just chatting, playing, watching the clouds under a tree eating something yummy?! yeeep that's a 100! she will also will try to make flowers crowns on you, if you choose the picnic she will bring homemade food or will ask you if you want to prepare the food with her

The beach date consist on her playing with you, walking barefoot while she holds your hand, she might tell you how wonderful of a person you are and how happy she is for having you on her life, she will also like to splash you with the water and play around with you, will love to build a sand castle or just bury you on the sand, watch the sunset or the stars with her!! please she will love you if you do that!! she will lend on your shoulder hold you hand and thank you for been how marvelous you are with her

the third date is a rare one, she is a nerd and she loves looooooves knowledge and reading if you take her to a library or a place where she can find new information about a topic she is into, how for sure she will info dump you about it, if you got her a book that you want her to read she will read It right away and discuss it with you!

to preface this though im by no means "good" at this game or anything dfgjkdfn i just go with the flow sometimes and choose whatever speaks to me yk... and im certainly not like. competitive or whatever. i mainly play games for enjoyment so please dont hurt me

was there any point in saying all that? no. since based on the ask it seems youre asking more abt creating an ultimate house full of faves rather than a list based on compatibility / playability during battles but. just wanted to make that clear

i also havent played the dlc yet so i dont know any of the ashen wolves ): once i play that this selection maaaay get updated

youa ctually dont understand how difficult that was for me. narrowing it down to only 8 characters? aaauugh im so indecisive. i only recently settled on my top fave from each house. only took me like . 2 years to do so. 3 actually

the other characterss i def still like (i pretty much enjoy all of them) but i dont have like HUGE attachments to them. like raphael and ignatz? i think they are very cool and neat but i wouldn't say theyre at the top of my list by any means, despite me like ..... suuuper respecting them

sylvain is an interesting character (as are pretty much all the blue lions) but i just dont reallt care abt theme ...... exception being mercedes and possibly ingrid. i see a character who puts their "niceness" on full display who also deserves to get angry and i get attached so of course mercedes grew on me. plus i think she's real sweet. not to say mercedes being nice is a facade but her being seen as the "mom friend" all the time must wear her down. like. when has there been a moment where she WASNT coddling someone / saying the nice thing / saying slash doing what the other person expects from her? NOT TO SAY SHES A PEOPLE PLEASER EITHER BUT JUST.... BC I KNOEW SHE WANTS TO SPEND THE REST OF HER LIFE HELPING OTHERS...... I JUST ENJOY CHARACTERS LIKE THAT LOL..... theyre easy to project onto. and i say ingrid bc her timeskip design..... gives me so much gender envy you have no idea. i already sort of talked abt the blue lions in another psot but. yeah! theyre all very interesting but for the most part i just couldn't care less

no one asked for this and YOU certainyl didnt ask for this but i wanna go through each house real quick.... i love the black eagles w/ all my heart. theyre def my fave house. im most emotionally attached to dorothea and linhardt i think though.... i just rly rly rly like edelgard. plsu i think all the hate surrounding her is dumb more than half the time. plus she was one of the characters i most had my eyes on back in 2020... when i firtt started playing.... the main reason why i GOT three houses was bc my friend told me i could marry her / marry a girl gkdfkgg so of COURSE shes gonna be held close to my heart..... but anyway. ferdie hubert and petra..... ferdinand and hubert grew on me after getting their A supports w/ byleth. its been a while since i watched the supports / thought abt them individually as characters but . i just remember feeling very ): (positive) after those moments. i rly enjoyed their character development... off the top of my head i love how hubert was like ... we can be the twin eagles flying alongside edelgard.... or some shit. and the whole like. if he had two lives he'd dedicate one to you..... I JUST LOVED THAT SO MUCH...... ferdie's an annoying noble sure but him post timeskip is just ..... idk man i just remember loving him during it soooo much. sucks my thoughts arent incredibly elaborate rn (will probably be so after playing crimson flower again) but. yeah. petra just. i instantly liked her and enjoyed her presence. plus shes a pretty solid unit. i wish i had more i could say but i dont really think about her in depth very often. i just think she's neat :) BERNIE. IA LMOST FORGOT ABT BERNIE. shes def the same as petra in this case but just ranked a bit lower. i dont think abt her much in depth but. yeah. i guess i dont rly think abt ferdie and hubie in depth either? i just think theyre neat. AND CASPAR.... I LOVE HIM TOO..... his A support w/ byleth made me ): but hes also not a character i think abt in depth very often... once again, i just think hes neat

now for the golden deer... marianne and claude and lysithea..... oh maaaan.... ESP MARIANNE....... HER ARC W/ HER DEPRESSION JUST.......... maaaaaan. i already knew i loved her but her A support w/ byleth made me love her so much more than before..... claude is just. him being mixed and him feeling demonized and out of place in both almyra and fodlan despite being BOTH almyran and fod.....lan just..... that's just the everyday feeling of being mixed white. his A support w/ marianne and the little story he shared with her to make her feel better abt her bloodline? abt bearing burdens they didnt ask for? god man.... and i just think lysithea is neat :) plus her whole like.... life being cut short and her working extra hard and CONSTANTLY overworking herself bc of it is jsut .... it makes me so sad. her supports w/ lorenz esp rly made that clear for me.... like how she was like. she doesnt give a fuck abt the future of the alliance bc shes not gonna be there to even see it? how she said that id be better for him to speak to someone (abt this stuff) who has one (a future)? it's so fucked up. she deserves better. also her and marianne's relationship to death..... i may make a separate post abt that, but they make me ACHE. as i said before, raphael and ignatz are my boys but theyre not at the top of my list yk. id be happy if i saw them on my team but theyre not my ultimate faves yk. lorenz is jsut. idk. my opinion on him def changed a bit after going throuhg his supports w/ the golden deer but other than that. ... i just hate how he treats claude LMAO he has a stick shoved up his ass like constantly. but i can respect his more pleasant moments absolutely. almost forgot abt hilda im sos sorry hilda. and leonie. idk theyre okay! theyre def in the same boat as ignatz and raphael. leonie did get on my nerves a bit sometimes though. her whole thing w/ jeralt just got annoying sometimes. she got better post timeskip i think but. yeah

it’s October which means that it’s time for some spooky scary yandere monster au’s, right?

Ferdinand von Aegir

Long haired, lacy ruffed, sips on blood like wine vampire Ferdinand has never met a human before, and certainly not a human as delicious smelling and lovely as you. He’s absolutely smitten. Unfortunately, the two of you are quite literally from different worlds. Since he cannot join your world (and why would he want to?) Ferdinand decides to bring you into his. To an immortal being, humans are more like pets than anything. Very weak, don’t know a lot, can get hurt easily, are very easy to steal away from their friends and family, need to be taken care of... Not that you know any of these things. All you know is suddenly waking up in some strange place, draped in silk and velvet and being told by this stranger (stranger? you can’t shake the feeling you’ve seen him somewhere before...) that this is your new home and dismissing any of your complaints or arguments as invalid because you simply don’t know any better. Ferdinand having issues controlling himself when it comes to your blood, juxtaposing his sweet, chivalrous behavior with raw violence and hunger. He truly feels bad for you when you cry about your family, when you beg to be let go. Most vampires wouldn’t understand or care, but he does. That pity begins to fade, though. At a certain point, he can’t help but feel like you’re doing it on purpose just to hurt him, that you’re not grateful for everything he’s done for you.

Claude von Riegan

Gorgeous, sunlight dappled satyr Claude stepping out from the trees, fascinated and excited by the sight of this lone human. Only loosely draped in robes, there’s little to hide his jaw-dropping physique. Equally as attention-grabbing, you can clearly see how those lovely thighs fade into the fur covered legs of a goat, complete with cloven hooves. Entranced, how can you help but to reach out and touch his ears to see if they’re real? That makes him shudder, warning you to be careful. All the same, Claude doesn’t stop you from running your fingers over the ridges of his horns, amazed and half certain this is a dream of some type. The discomfort fades fast due to his natural charisma and charm, you begin to relax. He shows you tricks with his bow, shooting things you toss in the air. You tell him stories, surprised at how interested he seems in your mundane life. Then the sun is setting and you tell him you need to go. He laughs like its a joke. He stops laughing when you get more insistent. When trying to entice you to stay doesn’t work, and when pretending to pout to get his way doesn’t work, Claude changes tactics. In the dark, the picturesque lake and field you enjoyed so much in the sun seems sinister. Yuri Leclerc

Black winged fallen angel Yuri who you mistake as your guardian angel. Although he’s surprised, he accepts the role gladly. You’re sweet, you’re a good person. To him, you feel like a second chance. He finds himself infatuated with the sensation of being seen as an angel by you, addicted to the way you depend on him and show your affection for your protector. And the way you shyly ask to feel his wings, running your fingers over the soft feathers with a reverence he knows he doesn’t deserve but desperately craves all the time. You don’t even question why his wings are black, or why he has no halo. But nature is nature and Yuri is fallen. When you see him kill your actual guardian angel to keep you to himself, you realize the situation you’ve gotten yourself into and run away from him. That’s Yuri’s curse, he knows. For turning his back on God, he will lose everything he holds dear, his joy will never last. But you... you need him. It’s not just that he wants keep you safe, it’s that he’s the only one who can keep you safe, the only one who can possibly understand and care for you the way he does. Besides, it might be better this way. A guardian angel cannot do what needs to be done to protect their ward for fear of breaking the rules and being cast out. Yuri faces no such restrictions.

Felix Hugo Fraldarius

Demon hunter Felix can’t justifiably kill you as a demon because you’re still partially human. But under the codes that he lives by, someone with demon blood can’t be allowed to live among humans, either. This question of what to do, this agonizing uncertainty, draws him ever nearer to you, his conflict growing as he watches you from afar. You seem so human, so unaware. He recognizes you as a threat, as an enemy because he has to, but everything in him disagrees. At the point that he realizes he’s defending you from other hunters, Felix knows its gone too far. But he can’t kill you, choosing instead to steal you away and keep you locked up as an unhappy medium. Part of him is disgusted by it. Part of him hates you. Part of him hurts to see you suffer. Unfortunately, attempting to appeal to his emotional turmoil doesn’t work for you, only serving to make him more volatile. Rather than his guilt driving him to let you go, it forces Felix to clutch onto you tighter, disdaining you for your weakness despite what you are, angry at you for how human you seem when he feels so monstrous. Kiss or kill, it was only ever going to end one way or the other and Felix was never as emotionless as he needed to be.

Let's write another headcannons for Blue Lions and sauna! How would their reaction be when they saw (Y/N) clad only in towel but still worrying their well-being and insist to walk them back to their quarters? (Post time-skip)

A MIDSUMMER'S NIGHT DREAM

Saving Derdriu to relieve the Alliance and Claude is a big success. The chance to win against the Empire is getting better with Claude’s agreement to strike as one united force. Trying to unwind from the intense battle, sauna sure is quite crowded today.

In this warm midsummer's night on Garland Moon, hoping to have some private moment for yourself, you decided to wash yourself at late midnight. Unbeknownst to you, almost every Blue Lions members thinks the same.

Dimitri

“Please pardon my rudeness! I’m so sorry! I really am!!” King of Faerghus had been reduced to a hulking giant lion puppy, hiding behind his large hands.

"I saw you in a state that only your husband should see you in and I-” His ramblings cut off and you looked at him, trying desperately to have him meet your eyes, but he continued to look away while trying to cover his eyes.

You felt a rush of embarrassment that he had seen you like this, trying your best to cover your body with your hands. But you also found that you didn’t really mind that it was him that had seen you this way. You knew that you should do something to put him out of his misery, but you weren’t sure what. Tiptoeing, you reached a hand up to cup one of his cheeks, and he looked at you unsteadily, closing his eye as he leaned into your touch with deep crimson face. The gentle lion looks like he’s on the verge of passing out from the sauna heat and nervousness. You weren’t sure why you had decided to reach out for him physically, but staring at his handsome face, so close to your own, you felt the most comfortable and safe you had ever felt.

The two of you stared at each other shyly and he raised his own hand to cover yours that was still on his cheek gently. Filled with mixture of love, lust, confusion, and embarrassment, his eyes stare back at yours reverently.

"I feel refreshed already. Guess I’ll take my leave now,” you said nervously, trying to dry your hair with towel while looking away from him to hide your rosy cheeks.

“W-wait! Would you mind if.... I walk you back to your quarters? Monastery can be dangerous at night and I....” stuttering between his words, the kind-hearted Dimitri is concerned for your safety.

“I will wait for you outside, then. Thank you, Dima.” Your smile is doing things to his weak mind. Trying his best to ignore the somersaults in his heart and nosebleed, Dimitri change his clothes and walk you to your quarters.

You almost kill him with heart attack and arousal when he saw your exposed nape from your nightgown, much to your obliviousness. Mumbling “Don’t catch a cold”, he pulls you closer and drapes his heavy fur cloak over you.

Sylvain

“Whoa!! Is that you, (Y/N)?! To run into you at this late hour at this place. It must be my lucky ni....” he gulps and look at other way immediately after seeing your almost naked form. “Idon’tseeanything! Believe me!! And no! I don’t see your beautiful bod--- Ouch!!” he yelps loudly when you smack him.

Your light punch has caught him off guard and made his towel fell, much to your embarrassment. You look away to save him from the shame and his prominent erection bulge. “Sorry for that,” the redhead skirt chaser tried to fix and laugh it off but he can’t hide his flustered face.

“Like what you see? I like what I see, though. Guess we’re even, now.” He winks at you seductively. Much to his playfulness, Sylvain is still being respectful to you. He offers an extra towel to cover yourself, then look away to give you some privacy. “Just give me a call when you are done and good to go. I’ll walk you back to your room, (Y/N).”

“Eh? But why? I can go back by myself. Just a little stroll and I’ll hit the bed”. You have changed into your nightgown and ready to take short stroll around the monastery before going to sleep.

“Night walks will be more fun with me, (Y/N). Like they said, the more the merrier! Besides, it won’t do me any good if something were happen to you,” his eyes glint with mischievousness but he’s serious with his words. “Let’s grab something to eat in the dining room. Can’t sleep with empty stomach, yes?” He clasp his much bigger hand in yours, then taking you to the hall.

“Thank you for being so kind to me, Sylvain.” Wrapping your arm snuggly to his, you lean your head on the redhead’s arm. Your warmth and sweet smell made his cheeks blush a little. “Anything for you, (Y/N).” You rolled your eyes at his remarks and poke his cheeks. “Silly,” you said with puffing chipmunk cheeks. Sylvain was utterly dumbfounded at your cute, mesmerizing pout. Sylvain.exe has stopped. You’re just too adorable for your own good.

Felix

Felix screams at the top of his lungs when he bump into you, sending you sprawled in front of him. “Idiot. Go cover yourself! Have some decency!! Why you got to use the sauna at this late evening!!?” Poor boi He almost died when you try to cover his mouth to prevent more unwanted attentions.

Unfortunately, Felix’s shouting invited some night patrol guards that is scouting around the area. “Everything’s alright? Do we have an ambush?”

“I’m sorry, Felix. But ssshh!!” His face flushed in deep crimson to his ears when you press your small hands on his lips. Between your palms, he muttered it’s okay and just surprised to the guards behind the sauna door. Despite his non-stop ramblings, he hug you tightly to cover you with his body from the guards that is trying to peek a little to ensure his safety. He just sighed in relief after making sure that guards have passed the hallway.

Felix’s heart pounding erratically when you put your head on his chest, much contrast to his deep crimson-flushed, scowling face. “Too close...,” he growls, gingerly pulling you away from him. Despite his harsh words, his touches are very gently.

“I’ll excuse myself for now. See you tomorrow!” you said hurriedly as you trying your best to maintain your composure and burning cheeks. Just changed into your comfy nightgown, you found Felix waiting in front of the sauna building. “Let me come with you,” he grumbles with flushed face. Just when you open your mouth to protest, he wraps his arm on your shoulders. “Move!”

You tried to peek on his expression but he snarled and tug your back lightly to keep on walking. “You look cold in that flimsy nightgown. I’ll keep you warm until you’re safe in your room.” You can’t help but to laugh at his worrywart cute side. In the warm midsummer night of Garland Moon, you can’t help but to bask in this precious sweet moment

The awkward swordmaster almost explodes when you smiles brightly and give his calloused hand a chaste kiss to thank him for his kindness for walking you back to your quarters. Shrugging his shoulders, Felix’s mouth just opening and shutting like a dying fish. “Stupid” were the only word that stumbled from his trembling mouth as he blubbered and stomped away from you, covering his face in embarrassment. You swear you could catch a glimpse of a gentle smile behind his hand. And if you concentrate enough, there are puffy steams from his head.

female Byleth S-supports ranked best to worst

(keeping my personal feelings about the pairings themselves to a minimum)

(Gilbert and Alois omitted, since those are platonic S-supports)

(warning: long post)

1. Seteth

This S-support is about as romantic as it can get. This thing just makes my heart flutter every. dang. time. and it’s easily the best S-support in the whole game for female Byleth. There’s a REASON why a lot of people hop aboard the Setleth train after witnessing this masterpiece.

Sure, Seteth lectures his way in and out of the proposal, but let’s be real, if it was any different it would be out of character, and acting the responsible advisor is just part of his charm. Plus, he pledges utter devotion to Byleth for the rest of his existence, and we essentially get wedding vows out of this one. It doesn’t get better than that!

He’s so self-assured during this S-support, and that’s sexy. But he is patient and affectionate with her, and takes the time to make sure there’s no room for confusion. He clarifies that his feelings are not those of duty (which is a problem with some other S-supports), or an interest in perpetuating a Nabatean or Crest-rich bloodline. It’s very clear that he just wants her, and that’s it. But where others put Byleth on a pedestal, this S-support feels like an exchange between equals.

Byleth’s reaction to this one is particularly noteworthy — there’s an unusual amount of emotional expression from Byleth during this S-support, INCLUDING A FRIGGIN BLUSH! Byleth does NOT blush often during these supports. Plus, Byleth asks Seteth to promise that he’ll follow wherever she goes. Unlike some of the other S-supports, it’s very clear that she’s invested in him and wants him.

Favorite quotes:

“I cannot conceive of a world without you in it.”

“I love you, deeply. Will you marry me?”

“From this day forward, I will always be at your side. Through good or ill fortune. Through the greatest of joys and the worst of woes. No matter how daunting the task, I will be there.”

“Courage, my love. Let us go forth and face the world - together.”

2. Hubert

I was genuinely caught off-guard with Hubert, especially since I haven’t played Crimson Flower yet and have gotten all of my impressions of Hubert from the fandom. A pleasant surprise, though, and pleasant enough to snag the #2 best S-support!

He starts with advisor nagging, which is no surprise since that’s his character. However, he doesn’t take too long to get to the point of the conversation, and everything is straightforward yet sweet. It’s very cute how he flustered he gets in the beginning, and his self-consciousness about his suitability as a husband is really sweet. But what really clinched this for me was the privilege of seeing a BLUSHY HUBERT! This surprisingly lovable psychopath gets so dang worked up and excited over Byleth giving him a ring and proposing to him right back.

Favorite quotes:

“[I’d] rather you be with me rather than some dubious individual.” (Yes, I altered the quote, but let’s be real, he wasn’t talking about Edelgard there.)

“I once thought killing you would be a great challenge, but the real difficulty was declaring my love.”

3. Ignatz

This S-support starts with an angry Ignatz, which had me worried. Ignatz is one of those characters where I expected his apparent youthfulness to cause a problem in his S-support (it definitely causes problems in other S-supports), even though he’s actually 17 at the start of game like Felix, Dimitri, Claude, Raphael, Ferdinand, and Edelgard. So I was pleasantly surprised by the sheer maturity of his proposal!

While he’s definitely self-conscious and doesn’t even expect Byleth to accept his proposal, it says a lot that Ignatz still had the guts to do the proposing. While he expresses surpassing admiration toward Byleth as someone who supported him through troubled times, he’s not dependent or subservient. Yes, there is a prominent fixation on Byleth’s beauty, but he’s an artist, so I think that adds more meaning to what would otherwise be an extremely shallow point to make during an S-support.

Favorite quotes:

“You are my goddess.”

“You soothed my troubled soul.”

“My beloved goddess.”

“I want to love you for all eternity.”

“I love you with all my soul.”

Hoo boy, this boy’s got a serious SILVER TONGUE on him! *fans self*

4. Lorenz

Regardless of how you feel about Lorenz, you’ve gotta admit this is a pretty flawless proposal. He reminisces about and apologizes for the trouble he used to cause as a youth, has a smooth transition into the presentation of the ring, and then his composure falls apart when Byleth reveals she’s been wise to him all along. He’s such a perfectionist, and his determination to propose perfectly is very consistent with his character. But I also appreciate that he made sure of Byleth’s feelings before actually asking her to marry him (ring presentation aside).

This S-support makes it very clear just how much Lorenz admires Byleth, which I feel is extremely important in context of his character. He can be incredibly self-centered to the point of being downright irritating, so the fact that he’s now talking about her and is focused entirely on her shows the sincerity of his feelings and how much Lorenz has grown as a person.

The bit at the end where he gets overexcited and uses his full name is hilarious, but I’m glad the S-support doesn’t end there, which would have taken away from it. Instead, it ends with Lorenz swearing to make Byleth happy and work with her in making the world a better place. Equal partners!

The last thing that really made this S-support for me was the voice acting. The broken voice, trembling, and stammering really added emotional depth to Lorenz’s character in this critical moment, and really brought everything to the next level in terms of overall impact.

Favorite quote: “Pedigree and status are no longer priorities for me. I now know that what matters most is the worth of an individual’s soul.”

5. Felix

The moment I noticed that this S-support was taking place at the training grounds, I knew it was going to be good. And it goes exactly as you would expect with our favorite tsundere, flustered and deflecting and all, but the sheer effort that he ends up putting into it is so endearing. And I adore how Byleth messes with him the whole time.

It starts rough, let’s be real. He just hands the ring to Byleth and tells her to “take this.” Oh, Felix. This poor boy is so. friggin. hopeless. You can practically hear his thought process leading up to this point. “How do I make sure Byleth never leaves?... Ah, marriage — yes, that’ll lock her in!” *facepalm*

But Felix’s body language is what really makes this S-support, starting with the finger point and then ending with the kabedon. Plus, we get a glimpse of something very rare: blushy Felix!

Favorite quotes:

“Fight me for the rest of my life.”

“I want you to be my wife. Please say yes. Let’s get married and stay together until we die. I love you.”

6. Balthus

I really didn’t know what to expect with this one, although to be honest, what expectations I did have were fairly low. Yet despite his faults, Balthus managed to scrape together a rather charming S-support! His nervousness and stuttering is adorable for such a big, tough-talking guy, and I love that we actually get an impatient “Just say it already,” from Byleth.

It was nice to see Byleth’s good influence on Balthus, although I’m not a fan of the woman-redeems-man trope. And considering that Balthus asks for up to 5 years to get his act together…that wasn’t exactly a point in his favor.

What made this S-support for me was all of the classic lines. Balthus isn’t necessarily a smooth talker, but it would be wrong to say that he doesn’t know how to talk to a woman. The proposal itself had me ROLLING: “Marry me, pal!” The voice acting was flawless, particularly when he said, “my love.” Balthus, I’ll say this on Byleth’s behalf: please stop trying so hard. And never say that again.

Favorite quotes:

“It’s time to take the biggest gamble of my life.”

“Comfort be damned! I need you by my side. Always.”

“Let’s get hitched right away! I know a guy.”

“To look after you...and be brave enough to let you look after me. that’s what marriage is all about, right?”

S-support portraits shouldn’t really matter here, but I’m going out on a limb here and saying that Balthus’ portrait is the best one of all Byleth’s S-supports.

7. Dorothea

I have a lot of Dorothea feels, okay? She’s my baby girl. And by this point in the game, she’s so jaded and used to disappointment that it just breaks my heart. So when Byleth proposes to her, you can hear the genuine emotion in her voice. She’s so in love with Byleth, but clearly talked herself out of it long before this moment. “You won the war. You could pick anyone in the world. Why would you…?”

And then she’s so happy. It’s not fancy, but her pure happiness really makes this for me. The hopeless romantic finally getting her happy ending is just really lovely.

Favorite quote: “I starred in so many operas where I captured the heart of my beloved. But I never dreamed that it would feel this wonderful when it actually happened.”

8. Ferdinand

Oh boy, Ferdie. There wasn’t much of a preamble, and the presentation of the ring wasn’t anything special. He’s still full of himself: “You hear noble Ferdinand von Aegir declare his love for you, and all you say is, ‘I understand’?” and this S-support is more focused on him than it is on Byleth, which is exactly the opposite of what happened with Lorenz’s S-support, even though they’re similar characters.

That being said, this S-support has its moments. We get a good reaction out of him (even though it’s over the top), and we get a sign of his personal growth when he reins himself in. The trembling and feeling faint is very cute (10/10), and considering his ambitious nature, him saying that he considers winning Byleth’s heart to be one of his greatest accomplishments is sweet, as is the way he dreams about their future.

In other words, this one starts rough, but ends sweet.

Favorite quote: “I need you as much as I need my next breath — more, even.”

9. Dedue

Can we just appreciate that Dedue chose to leave Dimitri for Byleth? That is so meaningful. Dedue spends the entire game unhealthily attached to Dimitri, and finally he finds something that he chooses for himself. Of course, there is the concern that he will become unhealthily attached to Byleth, but I don’t get that impression from his S-support.

There are so many wonderful little details in this S-support. The tiny, modest ring. The straightforward proposal. Both of them gazing at each other in loving, comfortable silence afterward. Byleth’s blush. And DEDUE’S LAUGH. Just. the laugh. It’s important.

Finally, Dedue invites Byleth to come with him to visit Duscur. TAKE NOTES, CLAUDE!! Anyway…

10. Edelgard

*takes a deep breath and sets aside my feelings about Edelgard’s stance on the Children of the Goddess*

Alright, so this S-support is significant because it’s one of the few where you can tell that there is genuine affection on Byleth’s end. She really takes charge of the proposal, going so far as to use Edelgard’s nickname, “El,” to convey affection and intimacy.

At first I was concerned when I heard Edelgard say, “This ring…thank you, my dearest friend,” and I was like HOLD UP – did Byleth just get friendzoned?? But Edelgard clarifies by expressing that she has romantic feelings too, which saves the scene. But while sweet, the rest of the S-support focuses on Edelgard’s ambitions and generally lacks romance. Fitting for her character? Yes. A satisfying S-support? Not really.

11. Dimitri

It’s clear from the beginning of this S-support that Dimitri and Byleth have become close friends. I appreciate the way they talk about their wounds, and although talking about Dimitri’s nightmares is far darker than I expected from an S-support, it shows just how much Dimitri has improved.

What disappointed me about this S-support is the lack of emotion on both sides. Sure, the “my beloved” pet name is wonderful. And sure, Byleth isn’t very emotional as a rule. But Byleth shows more emotional in other S-supports. And there is not nearly enough of a reaction on Dimitri’s side. Come on, dude. You’ve been aggressively simping over Byleth since Day 1, and you’re just taking this proposal in stride?? You should be unconscious right now.

12. Mercedes

I’m so proud of how far Mercedes has come at this point. She’s determined to live in a way that makes her happy, outside of her Crest or anyone else’s expectations. That being said, a lot of this S-support feels more like it could have been an A+ support.

Major points to Mercedes to being the one to do the proposing. A lot of people mistake her kind nature for being demure, which is not the case. She is bold, speaks her mind, and knows what she wants. And in this case, that’s Byleth. Her proposal is gentle and respectful, if a bit bland, and her reaction to Byleth’s acceptance is absolutely adorable. She’s so happy yet insecure, and I wish there was more communication from Byleth to reassure her.

13. Hanneman

Hanneman is an academic through and through, and his nature as a scholar comes through strongly in his S-support. He tries to approach things pragmatically, almost ruins things by talking about Byleth’s role in his research, but fortunately realizes that’s the wrong way to do it and takes a new approach with more feeling. It’s very similar to Linhardt’s S-support, but less self-centered and overall better. Hanneman treats Byleth as an equal, and shows enthusiasm in his own way.

Overall, this is an extremely pragmatic S-support, but it’s not without its charms. That being said, it definitely requires an interpretation of Byleth’s character where she has developed a taste for academia.

“I suppose there’s no reason to hold ourselves back any longer.”

“I don’t want the power of your Crest - I want you.”

“I can’t wait to see the results of this undertaking.”

14. Yuri

This S-support is very consistent with Yuri’s character. The scene opens with Yuri trying to repay his “debt” to Byleth, which definitely lacks in romantic vibes, but works in context. It’s nice to see Yuri nervous and out of composure, but I admit I had been expecting…more…from him with how charming he’s supposed to be. Then again, like Sylvain, maybe the fact that he’s dropped the façade is supposed to make it meaningful. At least he blushes! Blushy Yuri is something I didn’t know I needed. The bit at the end where he whispers his true name in her ear is very nice, too.

But yikes…Yuri talks about his death. And considering that in most of the routes, Byleth ends up being most likely essentially immortal, this hits HARD. She is definitely facing the death of her lover in a few decades at most, and that is not something she wants to think about during a proposal.

Favorite quote: “In return for this ring, I ask for you.”

15. Raphael

Raphael is a pretty clueless, non-romantic kind of guy. But the sudden proposal is very cute. Considering how awful he is at expressing himself, it works really well with his character to simply have him jump right in and get it over with.

That being said, I couldn’t help but feel that his reasoning for getting married was just a little loose. He always wants to be with Byleth and expresses that he wants to serve as her knight. Uh, you realize you can do that without marrying her right, bud? Byleth didn’t seem to be very into this proposal either, although she does have a wonderful little smile in the S-support portrait, which makes up for that. I love how the portrait emphasizes Raph’s size and strength by having him lift her up bridal style. It’s an actually flattering portrayal of him, too.

Favorite quote: “And…I’ll love you. Forever and ever. And ever!”

16. Sylvain

Ah yes, Sylvain. Our favorite train wreck. The good news is that he’s finally taking charge of his life, and I like that he’s straightforward in this S-support rather than flirtatious, which means that you know he’s being sincere. It’s cute to see him genuinely happy, and his statement that “I’m going to spend the rest of our lives together trying to make you happy,” is very good.

However, the “If you told me you never wanted me to look at another woman, I’d go blind for you” is going too far. I know it addresses his skirt-chasing character, but I just don’t know if they could have a healthy relationship. I know this is rating the support scene, not the ship itself, but I don’t think that’s a positive indicator for the future.

17. Claude

This S-support gives me so many bad vibes. Yes, he expresses his love for Byleth as well as his utmost confidence in her, but dude, actions matter more than words, and your actions speak VOLUMES. He’s the only one to just run off at the end of the S-support, and while I understand his reasoning — I really do — it’s clear that his own agenda and ambitions will always come before Byleth.

This is what I heard: “Right now, Fodlan is like a newborn... so that’s why I’m leaving, so you have to do all the hard stuff yourself. See ya, sucker!!” Ah yes. Prime husband and father material there. Obviously.

“I’m sorry that I won’t be by your side at such an important event...” Uh huh, yeah right. You’re obviously itching to get out of there.

I’m sorry, Claude stans, but giving Byleth an engagement ring and then running away for who knows how long is LAME.

18. Jeritza

The first thing that struck me about this S-support is the fact that it takes place in the Agarthan HQ, Shambhala. This is super meaningful because it means that Byleth and Jeritza go there together to use their killing prowess to take out Those Who Slither in the Dark post-Crimson Flower. It’s a nice way to tie up the route. The portrait is super dynamic and unique, too. That being said…

He’s still fixated on killing Byleth. If that’s your thing, then hey, I can’t judge. At least we all know that if he hasn’t killed her by now, it’s never going to happen. It’s such an empty threat it’s probably an inside joke by now. But Jeritza’s clearly still figuring out his feelings, which means I’m not sure it really counts as an S-support (it would have made a better A+ support imho). There are also things about this pairing and S-support that have some serious implications for who Byleth has become by this point and what the future is likely to look like. Good storytelling, yes, but as an S-support…not my favorite.

“To the very depths of hell, I will tumble down with you.”

19. Linhardt

This S-support falls flat for me. It’s like Hanneman’s, but worse because it’s super self-centered. I feel like it’s a really bad summary of Linhardt’s character because so much more could have been done with it. Linhardt has lots of good traits, and this S-support ignores all of them. Instead, we have a one-dimensional S-support that focuses on Linhardt’s laziness and penchant for napping. He’s so self-centered and consumed by his own interests, so saying that he wants to study Byleth for the rest of his life makes her more like an accessory to his life plans rather than a central component. At least when Hanneman says he wants to study Byleth, he makes it very clear that he loves her and wants her as a person.

And the line where he says "I didn’t honestly think you’d reject me” is just…wow. Much disappoint. If I were Byleth I would turn him down on the spot just for saying that.

20. Ashe

Ashe’s S-support comes off to me like he’s pledging himself to her as a vassal more than actually proposing. Yes, he does take initiative and does the proposing, which is consistent with the fact that Ashe is a gutsy little guy. But he’s so stuck on being helpful that the S-support ends up feeling immature. Plus, Byleth doesn’t seem very enthusiastic about the proposal compared to other S-supports, and overall Ashe’s worship of Byleth comes off as more dependent than romantic.

21. Caspar

We’ve reached the bottom four S-supports, starting with this disaster. Caspar is juvenile, reckless, and oblivious. (Don’t get me wrong — I adore his character and see him like a little brother.) Byleth has to take charge of the proposal, which is not a problem in itself, but then Caspar confesses that he hasn’t even thought about marrying Byleth — or anyone at all! asaslkjasdflk FAIL

At least the victory shout is kind of cute…if painfully cheesy.

And they get worse from here…

22. Rhea

I don’t have a lot to say here. I know I said that I would keep my personal feelings about the pairings themselves out of this, but I feel like there are certain things about this particular pairing that need to be addressed along with this S support.

Age gap aside (because frankly with immortals, age doesn’t really matter anymore), Rhea CREATED Byleth’s mother, essentially making herself Byleth’s grandmother. Incest vibes, yo. Plus, she fully intended to sacrifice Byleth’s life in order to bring back Sothis — which, granted, is a sentiment that wears off, and Jeritza is just as bad in terms of original intent to kill Byleth. This makes any kind of romantic revelation on Rhea’s side just…weird.

There are some good quotes in this S-support, and we get a ton of reveals about Rhea’s character development in a short amount of time. She’s self-conscious of her other form as a dragon, she acknowledges the wrongs she did in the past, and she expresses a desire to repent. She acknowledges the pivotal role that Byleth has played through her choices and accomplishments, rather than attributing them to fate and the “flow of time.” But honestly this would be more appropriate as a final scene at the end of the game, not a romantic S-support.

23. Cyril

Oh boy. Where do I start with this one? It’s so bad...

This boy is BABY. 19 years old after the war? Sure. Attractive design? Yes. But still, he. is. BABY. And the S-support portrait makes it so much worse by making him look freaking TEN.

And he’s so, so oblivious. Even worse than Caspar. He barely has a personality as a character outside of being committed to the servant mentality, and he has had no opportunity to discover himself as a freaking person outside of his obsession with Rhea. It should be illegal to even consider this kid for S-support. One thing would be if it was platonic, like Alois or Gilbert, but Byleth gives him the ring, and that means it’s supposed to be romantic.

Plus, Cyril says that he loves Byleth, but it’s super casual and comes off more like familial or friendship love rather than romantic love. Unless I missed something, I don’t think Byleth ever says that she loves Cyril in their S-support. And the end is just the worst: “Love ya, see ya in the morning.” That’s IT???? There is absolutely no indication of a mature relationship, and that’s just scary and gross.

I just…really hate this S-support. There’s only one S-support that’s worse…

24. Sothis

Forget everything that I said about keeping my feelings about particular pairings out of this ranking. This is a TRULY CURSED S-SUPPORT.

I don’t care that Sothis is technically a goddess whose age is beyond counting or mortal comprehension. All that matters is she looks like a child. She is lolibait. And to top it all off, she doesn’t even have physical form (thank goodness) — she’s just an apparition in Byleth’s head!

And this quote? “I love you deeply! Overwhelmingly! passionately! Ours is a love without an end!” I only have two words: PEAK CRINGE.

It would be one thing if Sothis came back in her adult form. Or better yet, if she had always been in her adult form as portrayed in the fresco in the reception hall. You can do something with that. But that’s not the case, Sothis is portrayed as a pre-pubescent child in both appearance and personality, and that’s just pedophilia vibes, y’all. I can’t believe this is a sincere S-support option.
