Do you remember that Aesthetic game that I did for my characters a while back? well, I had these moodboards lying around from when I first started to draft this AU, so I decided to share them the same way I did my previous moodboard! so, here you have Dorothea, Colette and Lucia as their counterparts in my "The Witches of Månenshavn" story! After having explored Fontaine around a bit, I have to get back to my brainstorming board and change Dorothea's origin: she is so Fontaine-Coded that I need to update her infos and change her birth nation!

This gives me all kinds of ideas of Dorothea and Itto just swimming together and Itto just losing it when he sees the otters because THEY ARE SO CUTE and MUST-PAT-THEIR-LITTLE-HEADS (I can so see him pouting, full-on puppy eyes when he asks her to bring one back home with them, omg....)

Also Also! I want Dorothea to be somewhat related to Neuvillette (he would be her kinda-too-serious-and-uptight-uncle-who-never-smiles-except-in-certain-occasions, a true stickler if you will) and you can bet all you want that she would introduce Itto to him, once they go back to Fontaine to visit the family, once they have made everything official, and you can bet that Itto would point out that Neuvillette looks just like an otter (and this may or may not cause him to end up in jail and Dorothea will have to pay his bail lol).

LIKE. ITTO IS ADORABLE, BUT THE MAN DOESN'T KNOW WHEN TO SHUT UP.

Assassin, until the first moment

Just as Magnus was about to let his knife sink into the skin of the other man, the duke moved his eyelids. The assassin froze and a few seconds later he was staring into the now open eyes of Alexander Lightwood. Magnus almost expected to see fear in the duke’s eyes, but this was not the case. He could see a challenging glow instead.

The assassin realised that the duke understood the situation immediately, and they both stared into the eyes of the other... The duke leaned his head back, pressed himself further into the pillow beneath him and offered his throat to Magnus. The sharp blade sank into the soft skin slightly the blood welled instantly from a small cut. Magnus looked almost terrified at the red runlet which ran down over the duke’s skin into the white pillow. Magnus couldn’t move. What was wrong with him? He had to fulfil his mission but something was stopping him, making him hesitate.

“Do it”, the duke demanded and the dark husky voice sent shivers down Magnus’ spine.

“What are you waiting for? Do it.”

✯ World (called Tekom): our story in particular focuses primarily on three countries. Verkap (inspired primarily by Regency England), Kueskap (inspired primarily by the Gupta Empire era of India), and Tritokap (inspired primarily by Thailand, generally). The primary setting is the coast of Verkap, but heavily features characters and cultural influence from the other two countries. They worship the stars as minor deities who grant miracles -- a religion called Sterkas. Although each country has a different view of the stars' origins and the rules of earning those miracles, everyone agrees that the stars have an innate connection to the magic that graces Tekom.

Although they theoretically come from a common ancestral clan, when Verkap and Kuerskap crossed the seas and encountered each other, it sparked a war that lasted for five hundred years -- an intense, bloody war that Tritokap emphatically stayed neutral on. Neither side won; eventually, thanks to the efforts of members of all the countries and a particularly miraculous shipwreck, the countries mutually agreed on a truce. This year will mark the fifth hundred anniversary of that treaty, meaning that they are soon coming upon a net zero of sorts. Importantly, this year will also be the crowning of the first ever Verkap queen who is of Kuerskap descent; a barely-eighteen year old woman named Chandrika Devi.

Chapter 12 | Belladonna | Jocelyn Frey

Clary had been in a foul mood all day as she moped around the house in her pyjama's. After what happened nearly two weeks ago, the doctors said she needed to get some rest. Her reaction to the drugs someone slipped in her drink at the nightclub was terrible. She was lightheaded, vomiting and her eyesight was a blur. I nearly had a heart attack when the police rang me that night. I ran from the house, still wearing my pyjamas in a mad rush to get to the hospital. Once there, they told me that Simon had also been hospitalized by the drugs.

When I arrived at her room the police stopped me and explained that Clary had been making a scene in the nightclub. She was screaming about a murder but no one in the club saw anything. The doctors could only suspect that it was a hallucination brought on by the drugs before passing out. The police were on the lookout for a student called Eric Hillchurch, who was reported as missing. That made me wonder for a moment. Clary and Simon had told me they were meant to meet him at the nightclub. Why wasn't he there? Where was he now? Was he a victim of the person who drugged them? What might have happened if Clary hadn't made a scene? Would my child be tied up with some nutter doing god knows what to her? I realized I was shaking with agitation when the police officer put his hand on my shoulder and asked if I was alright. I remember thinking to myself what a bloody stupid question that was as I politely reassured him I was ok. When I finally saw Clary in the hospital she was out cold. I clutched her hand, hoping to god that she would be alright.

When she finally did wake up days later, she was so hysterical that security was forced to restrain her. She screamed about the murderer coming for her in the darkness, but when someone turned the lights on I saw that it was only a doctor. When she finally calmed down and told me about the murder, I explained that she had been drugged and that no one was murdered, which seemed to calm her a little. She was still shaken about being drugged.

Despite her pleading to go home, both the doctors and the police insisted she stay at the hospital until they found out what drugs were in her system. After finding out about his condition she changed her mind, wanting to stay with Simon til he woke. She didn't have to wait long. A few hours later his parents told us he was awake. The doctors had been looking into Lsd, ecstasy and other drugs that might be responsible.

Clary and Simon were finally released a week ago after the police found a none lethal dose of Belladonna in their systems. Belladonna? That was odd. Now, all I could do was wait for her to perk up and return to her usual self if that was even possible. All her belongings from that night were just left sitting on the kitchen counter. As I walked over to get a packet of cheesy pasta for Clary, something caught my eye. Upon seeing the symbol, I dropped the packet on the floor.

"What was that?" She said, nearly giving me a heart attack as she walked through the door.

"Oh, Jesus Christ. You frightened me. It was just me being a clutz. you forgot your things from... the other night." I stammered.

"Oh, Ok." She said.

"Uh, Here. Go and put your bag and all this other stuff away." I said as I handed her the bag. "What do you think about a nice hot plate of cheesy pasta with hotdog slices?" I asked, picking up the packet.

"That sounds great." She smiled.

"Ok then, You sort all that out and I'll bring it up for you," I said.

As she went upstairs and into her room, I ran into the living room and pulled two floorboards up from the cupboard. That symbol would drive me crazy until I knew for sure. I brushed a pile of dust away and hauled the box out and lifted the lid from it. Underneath was a piece of yellowy old cloth that I unfolded, revealing the book I stole from Val. The cover was bound in moth-eaten cloth of gold, with embroidered markings that might once have been lettering, but the wear and tear of time made it hard to tell.

Hurriedly flipping through the pages, I quickly glanced up towards Clary's room to make sure she didn't see me. One by one I turned the pages until It finally appeared. The Symbol was intricately detailed on the gold plated mortal cup. It meant angelic power. How in the nine circles of Hell did Clary Know about this symbol?

A knock on the back door nearly made me jump out of my skin. As I frantically shoved everything back under the floorboards, the knocking started again. Who the fuck could that be? Not taking any chances I grabbed a large knife and headed for the door. Gathering my courage I held the knife in one hand and opened the door with the other. If it was a friend I could just say I'm cooking, which I was.

All my fears came to nothing as I saw My neighbour, Madame Dorothea was waiting on the other side.

"Hi, Jocelyn. Are you OK?" She asked hesitantly upon seeing the knife.

"Yeah, I'm Just cooking some cheesy pasta and sliced hot-dogs for Clary," I said trying to look less nervous.

"Mum, who's there?" Clary called from her room.

"Its Dorothea, just popping round to see how we are. I'm going pop out for a chat with her. I won't be long." I quickly put the knife down and stepped outside with Dorothea. "You are not going to believe what I just found in Clary's bag."

"What? What did you find?" She asked.

"A symbol she sketched."

"What kind of symbol?" she looked suspiciously up towards Clary's window.

"The one on the mortal cup. I Found it in the book." I said as we sat on the bench.

"The mortal cup? How does she know about that?" she said, thinking it through.

"I don't know. And I don't know where she found that symbol either. It's not like I just left the book out for her to find." I said, racking my brain to think how she found it.

"Where did you hide it?" she asked.

"Under the stairs, beneath the floorboards. She hasn't touched it. Wherever she saw it, it wasn't here. What about you? The cup has never been moved from its hiding place, right." I asked.

"Not at all." She sternly replied. After everything we went through to get it away from Val, I knew Dorothea would never be so foolish as to risk exposing it to the world. That made me think for a moment. Could Val have found us? Was it him or one of his lackeys who somehow showed Clary that symbol? Was he behind everything at the nightclub? Val was no one's fool. With his power, he could find a way to get to us and the cup, given the right opportunity. For all, I knew he could have sent someone to watch us. A colleague? A neighbour? A Friend? We would have to be more careful than ever.

"It's time. I'm going to have to tell Clary everything. If Val or someone else is using her to get to me and the cup, Its best if she knows what to watch out for." I said. I spent too long shielding Clary from the truth. When she was born I had planned to tell her at her eighteenth, but as the time came and went, I thought I would never have to.

"What about the boy? Churchill was it?" She asked.

"Hillchurch. What about him?" I wondered once more about him, and what he had to do with all of this.

"He befriended her and Simon out of nowhere, it was he who arranged to meet them in that nightclub." I didn't like where she was going with this.

"Be careful when you say stuff like that. After all, we don't know all the facts." I urged her.

"That's my point exactly. Don't get me wrong, he may very well be a victim here, but he could also be an accomplice." She crossed her legs and leaned back against the wall. "You hear about stuff like this all the time. He could be living it up in sunny Spain after being paid by some scumbag, into handing them over for human trafficking, while everyone thinks he's just another victim. It happens." She shrugged.

"You really think so?" That was an awful thing to think, but it may have been true.

"Some people are capable of all sorts, given the right incentive," she said.

Suddenly there was a noise from over the bushes and we both jumped to our feet.

"Who's there?" I asked, staring towards the small gaps in the branches for a look at the figure behind them.

"It's me. Lucas." He uttered as he hobbled around the corner towards us, his teeth jutting out with his hair and skin shedding onto the ground.

"Are you alright?" Dorothea asked as she helped him towards the bench.

"Oh yeah, I'm fine. It just takes a while to get back to my old self." He gasped and I heard a loud crack as the bones in his leg stretched and shifted back into place. "you got any painkillers?" He asked, holding his leg. I quickly rushed into the house and grabbed some paracetamol from the bathroom and a bottle of water from the fridge. I knew it wasn't much but it was all we had to help. He gulped it down like crazy.

"I went to that Pandemonium place you told me about. It's was bloody hard to find. If it hadn't been for that god awful nun I might still be looking." He sat up straight.

"A nun at a nightclub?" Dorothea asked.

"Well, I say a nun, it was really a bunch of women dressed as slutty nuns up for a hen night. One of them kept getting up to sing karaoke. Some of them were really great songs until she fucking sang them." He took another drink. "She really seemed to think she was Maria Von Trapp, but she sounded more like she needed an exorcist." He put the bottle on the ground and stretched his legs out. They didn't seem to hurt that much anymore. "Anyway, Its turns out the sign on the front door has this on it." He pulled a leaflet from his pocket and held it up for us to see. Behind the letters was the symbol of the mortal cup.

Good evening, good evening!!

I am finally done with the artworks I have had in store ever since the "thunder of ideas" struck me last week and I decided to keep Dorothea's design for Genshin.

And let me tell you.

I had so much fun.

SO MUCH FUN.

And because while I draw I also brainstorm, I decided to catch two birds with one stone, and draw Dora and Itto's son as well, little Hokuto, a literal flying ball of sunshine.

I know that Oni in Genshin do not fly, but I decided that little Hokuto is a special case, ( I couldn't let the chance to reference the first manga I ever read, Urusey Yatsura, pass me by like that. Rumiko Takahashi my beloved); so, because of this, little Hokuto flies around (much to his father's delight and his mother's worry) and generates MASSIVE electric discharges each time he gets excited or mad about something (thank goodness Itto has a Geo vision, since apparently, he is his son's favourite target).

Also, his name, Hokuto, is the way the Ursa Major is referred to in Japan (and a small connection to Dora's own status as Morning Star), but also, in Kanji, 歩來翔, the last Kanji means "Soar,fly". (If you know me by now, you know that I go deep with the details and layering lolol)

In the first picture, I gave Dora a striped Haori because I like to think that Itto gave it to her once while they were stuck together because they were caught off guard by a thunderstorm, and Dora kept it with the intention of having it washed and then returned to him, but Itto being the adorable himbo, refused to take it back and just gave it to her, so that she would remember "The One and Oni".

Needless to say, she kept it and, after having had Hokuto and Hotaru (I need to draw her too lol), she decided to use it to make a jinbei for both children.

(also, fml I finally got the chance to draw a Furisode and a Yukata,fml. It has been YEARS since I last drew Japanese traditional fashion <3).

I was too lazy and tired to draw the background though,so I took a screenshot of Inazuma and just used it and modifying with the proper lighting.

I truly had lots of fun doing these!!

Shadowhunters Review (01x02)

Okay people let’s do this. Btw I forgot to write how much I liked Dot’s gift to Clary. Very fashionable.

Simon is soo right omg. Why do they have so much device it’s not like they run a tech shop or something. Simon is adorable. Muttering “So hot.” while looking at Isabelle and trying to cover it up by saying “Runes. I meant the runes.” Sure you did, sweetie.

I did not liked the man played Hodge. This isn’t about him or his acting. I just didn’t imagine Hodge that way. He looks younger than Jace. :( Clary looks so scandalised about Jocelyn lol. This is tip of the iceberg girl.

Btw I hated intro. No. Just no.

Jace looks so shocked with Clary’s fiercely answers him about the cup and Valentine. I think he fell in love.

Okay apparently Dot is alive. Looking for Magnus. Aaaand it’s ruined. Again. Let’s keep going.

Sizzy is just cute. Isabelle is flirting and Simon is justing rolling with it. Which he usually isn’t but I’ll let it slide because they’re cuuuuute.

I understand that they have to show shadowhunters are much faster than mundanes but ugh. Did they have to use the effect of the shows like The Vampire Diaries or Twilight???

Dominic Sherwood may be too hot for me to handle. Oh god.

I loved Isabelle. I did not expect that. She is a softie. Her relationship with Clary is too post-COHF here. Now I understand why there are so many Isabelle/Clary fanfics in ao3.

Aaand I understand why people write “Magnus chose his people not Alec.” thing. Apparently Magnus is a king to them. Look at him protecting all the warlocks, opening portals lol.

“We broke like 18 Clave rules already and now you want to go to the City Of Bones?” Oh Alec baby stop counting and roll with it. You will be extremely happy in the end, I promise.

Oh Valentine kidnapped Dot too. Well he is right. For someone so old she is definitely not so wise.

Simon is the best friend I need. Seriously. “You are Clary freaking Fray you can do anything. Go and be a badass shadowhunter.” Adorable.

“It’s witch light. We carry it to remind us the light can be found even in the darkest places.” Oooh I see. Too bad for you, I recognise the quote, Jace. Most part of it, at least.

I love how Jace holds Clary’s hand. It’s almost possessive but he also tries to protect her. Btw Silent Brothers are sooo cool. I like them.

Dot is seriously stupid. I’ll say it over and over again till I’m satisfied. Girl, you don’t talk when you’re trying to escape.

Alec. You are not paranoid. That is one of the smartest things you said. What you said is not true but you’re right. She could be a spy. She is Valentine’s daughter and she turns up from no where.

Was that Raphael who took Simon? That’s nice. I ship it.

This episode was certainly better than the first. But I’m afraid to get my hopes up.

someone’s gotta do it

every ep dot appears in and a look into how poorly she’s treated

appears in:

1x01 - Jocelyn has Dot create a portal for Clary. Dot continues to help protect the mortal cup and Jocelyn, resulting in her being thrown out a window by a circle member, hitting a fire escape on the way down, finally landing on concrete. We’re left to assume that she’s dead.

1x02 - Continuing on her spree to help Jocelyn and Clary, she goes to Magnus, hoping he’ll help her protect them. He tells her “I’ve been a little busy protecting our people from certain death… Jocelyn’s brilliant plan is screwed. Valentine knows a warlock brewed the potion that put her to sleep. He’s hunting warlocks down one-by-one… It’s our only choice until we know what Valentine is up to. Let’s go.” Dot tells him that she can’t go with him, because she needs his help to find Clary. Thus the famous line “Are you really going to risk you life for a shadowhunter?” is stated. Dot refuses Magnus’s offer to leave again, and starts to leave Pandemonium. As she leaves she gets attacked by a circle member, again, resulting in her being captured by Valentine. The next time we see her she’s in a cell being spoken to by Valentine. He tells her he’ll let her go if she helps to wake up Jocelyn, and she calls him out for lying. After some more discussion of who created the potion for Jocelyn, Valentine injects Dot with a syringe that contains poison to torture her to get her to talk. After some time, she uses a little of the magic that she has left to unlock her restraints and cell, and exits to tell Jocelyn that Clary’s okay and “…won’t let Valentine win”, thus putting herself into even more danger. As she speaks to Jocelyn’s unconscious body a circle member attacks her, yet again. She grabs one of Valentine’s syringes and stabs it into the circle member’s neck, injecting the poison into his blood stream. Dot slowly attempts to crawl away, but Valentine tells her “You were right warlock. I was never going to let you go,” and grabs her by her hair and is shown to start to stab her with a seraph blade. At this point there’s a cut scene, and we don’t see what happened to her.

1x04 (mentioned) - Dot is only mentioned in passing when Magnus tells Clary and Jace that he believes her to be dead because he can no longer feel her magic. After this, Clary stops looking for her completely.

2x02 - Clary runs off to her art college, and after Jocelyn and Luke find her, she runs out of the building. There she runs into Dot, who is now covered in what looks like black veins and appears extremely tired. She grabs Clary, opens a portal, and takes them both through it to the ship Valentine and Jace are on. Dot, using a spell that Valentine makes her use so that her nor Clary would get hurt, tells Clary that Valentine is “misunderstood”. Still using the spell, she tells Clary that Clary can see the future, and shows her a fake vision that depicts downworlders revolting and murdering mundanes and shadowhunters, ending the world. After a while, Clary wakes up in a cell under the ship where other downworlders are held captive for experiments. Dot approaches her, apologizing, explaining she was forced to use the spell to make her do whatever she said. Dot says she has to use it again, and when Clary tries to stop her from doing it again, she says “If I don’t he’ll get angry with me. You don’t want that.” Clary stops her and reminds her of when she bought her gelato from Little Italy, and Dot tells her it wasn’t form Little Italy, it was from Rome. Clary says “You always had my back, no matter what.” Dot, after she considers this, asks Clary “Why did you stop looking for me?” The only excuse Clary provides is “Magnus couldn’t feel your magic anymore. We thought Valentine had killed you”. Dot shakes her head and responds with “No. He just experimented on me.” Clary, not apologizing, asks for Dot to help her anyway. After some attempts at convincing her, Dot walks away. The next time we see her she’s walking along side Clary, watching silently with her as Jace threatens Gretel. As Clary walks towards Jace and the others, Dot goes off to the side to prepare a portal. Dot opens the portal, and Clary tells Jace they have to leave now. They both run through, leaving not only Dot behind, but Gretel as well, both presumedly to die. Valentine orders for Dot to be taken back down to the holding area for the downworlders, and Gretel is killed.

2x04 - Dot appears in the episode towards the end, when Valentine has come to attempt to break Jace out of shadowhunter prison. When Jace tries to attack Valentine, Dot uses a spell to blast him away from him. It’s assumed she’s being threatened and experimented on again. The last we see of her is her entering a portal she created for Valentine to escape through.

2x09 - When Dot appears this episode she’s with Valentine and a few other circle members, some downworlders, and Madzie (it’s to be mentioned that the only reason that Clary starts searching for Madzie is because of her blood deal with Iris, and had no shown intent of finding her until her life was at risk). They’re in an abandoned theme park. Dot’s skin is now grey and almost looks like paper. She has dark circles under her eyes, her hair is a mess and the black veins on her face are now much more prominent. Valentine approaches her, questioning her as to why she can’t figure out how to do a specific spell. She tells him that the spell is very complex, and that the injections don’t help. He tells her to teach Madzie the spell then. Dot responds by telling him that Madzie is too young, but he retaliates with “But powerful beyond her years.” He continues on discussing how he’s raising Madzie to be a sort of perfect warlock for him. He threatens to inject Madzie with the injections if Dot doesn’t teach her the spell. Dot agrees to teach her, and Valentine leaves so that she can start teaching. Dot approaches her and says “Hi Madzie. I’m Dot. It’s nice to meet you.” Madzie responds with “You’re pretty.” Dot slightly smiles, but looks back up dejectedly, and then leans on a bar. That’s the last we see of her this episode.

2x10 - Clary, Jace, and Luke all go back to the theme park in search of Valentine, as he has Simon (there isn’t much if any mention of Dot or Madzie). Dot is there, locked in a cell, abandoned there. She shouts out to them saying “wait”. They all rush over. Dot tells them that there’s another way to destroy the soul sword. The scene cuts to Dot laying on Magnus’s couch, finally safe. He’s having her drink a potion, and she now looks much better. Her skin is back to its normal color, and she no longer has dark circles under her eyes, and her lips are no longer black. She still has some black veins on her face, but they appear to be fading. Clary instantly starts grilling her, and says in a cold tone “Dot, tell us everything you know.” Dot tells them that if Jace touches the sword, it’ll break. Luke says “Why should we believe a word she says. It’s probably just be another trap.” Dot responds saying “Luke, Clary! You know me.” She’s obviously taken aback. Clary turns to her and harshly states “You’ve lied to me before.” Dot, exasperated, tells her again, after telling her back on the boat, that it was because of the injections. She tells them that because Valentine now has a better warlock (Madzie), he’s casted her aside, so she’s back to her true self. Luke laughs, responding with “Good story, but I’ve heard better.” Clary and Jace bring up the vision they were shown from an angel, and Magnus looks at it. He tells them it refers to a demonic Morgenstern, which they all believe to be Jace. Dot is all but forgotten in the midst of this. That’s the last we see of her in 2a.

2x12 - This time Dot is called by “Magnus” (Valentine) for her help. Whe “Magnus” opens the door to her, he asks her what took her so long. She responds with “Sorry, but after all the abuse Valentine put me through I still can’t make portals”. “Magnus” responds by telling her to let go of her anger, as something bad could come of it. She looks at him and starts to tell him that he sounded just like Valentine. He interrupts her. “Magnus” tells her that he’d been attacked by a greater demon, and she says “No wonder you seem a bit off,” with a worried tone. He tells her that it seems to have affected his memory, and now he can’t access his magic. Dot tells him she’s never heard of such a situation. He responds with “Me neither. I need you to teach me.” She agrees. That’s the last we see of her during this episode.

2x13 - Dot enters Magnus’s loft, asking how he knew it was her. He tells her he saw her crossing the street. Magnus asks if she’s come to convince him to do the dna test for the clave, but she responds with “Are you kidding? I’m all for stopping those murderers but when the DNA brigade came knocking I portaled out. I had that shop in Salem. This isn’t my first witch hunt.” She then offers him dragonfly wings, as she remembers that he supposedly lost his magic last episode. She notices his drink after this, calling it his “heartache drink”. When Magnus tries to deflect her, she tells him it’s her, she’s known him for hundreds of years, and asks him to pour her one, continuing to say “Talk. Or not. Either way you should never drink alone.” After some time, the episode cuts back to her and Magnus both drinking, discussing prior love interests and such. A previous relationship between the two is then brought up. She tells him after this to find a warlock to fall in love with, so that “…your boyfriend won’t be on your doorstep asking for a cheek swab.” Magnus laughs and asks why she hasn’t gotten with a warlock for the past six decades, since warlocks are so magical. She tells him that it’s hard to “…find a warlock who’s super hot and lives in this realm. And, who’s also a good dancer.” Magnus asks her if that’s a challenge of sorts, and she looks off to the side, smiling. The next time we see her she’s dancing with Magnus. After dancing, Dot attempts to kiss Magnus. Magnus denies her, telling her he’s in love with Alec. She tells him she knows, and apologizes. They both blame it on the mood and the bottle of whiskey. After telling Magnus that Alec is lucky to have him, she leaves.

2x17 - In the most recent episode, a warlock named Elliot dies because he knew where the mirror was, and killed himself so that Valentine and Jonathan wouldn’t get to it. Because of this, a sigil appears on Dot’s arm, telling her where the mirror is at. She goes to Clary, asking for protection. As they walk her to Alec’s office, Clary says that Elliot was one of her best friends, and Dot responds telling Clary that he introduced her to Jocelyn. Dot explains that the sigil now on her arm is only transferred when something terrible has happened to the original owner. They tell Alec that Jocelyn had the mortal mirror, and Alec asks Dot if she now knows the location of the mirror. She explained that it’s a bit more complicated than that, but that she can figure it out. Jace explicitly tells Dot that “We can help protect you from Jonathan and Valentine”. Clary leaves with Jace to go to Elliot’s shop, leaving Dot at the institute. After a couple scenes Dot is shown to be with Alec in his office, her back to the door as she looks at a map, trying to find the correct ley lines. Alec tells her that once she gets the mirror it becomes property of the clave. She responds by saying “Do you think I want anything to do with this? The only thing i care about is stopping Valentine… I’m sorry but I’ve lost whatever faith in the Clave I had left. So when i retrieve the mirror, it becomes property of Clary Fairchild. She’s the only one that I trust. She can do what she wants with it.” After this Alec tells Dot that there have been too many security breaches and that she’ll only be having two escorts, Clary and Jace. At this point Clary rushes in telling Alec that Jonathan was at Elliot’s shop. Sebastian walks in and sees Dot’s sigil and map. After a few cut scenes, Dot is shown to be with Jace and Clary in the center of the institute looking at a map. Dot has narrowed down the location of the mirror to a couple points. Clary tells them both that one of the points is a park she used to go to when she was little, so they go there to look for the mirror. After a few more scenes, Dot, Jace and Clary portal to the park, and Dot starts to search for the mirror. While Jace and Clary are supposed to be protecting Dot and looking out for threats, they have a discussion about whether or not Jace will kill Jonathan on sight. Dot finds the mirror, but while she casts the spell to grab it, Jace and Clary don’t recognize Sebastian standing close, and fail to recognize the threat. Jonathan attacks Jace, and starts to walk over to Dot, gesturing for her to hand the mirror to him. She hands it to Clary instead, and blasts Jonathan away for a second. Jonathan retaliates by shoving Dot to the concrete. Clary talks to Jonathan for a while, and in that time frame Dot has enough time to get back up. She attacks Jonathan, blasting him again. She then creates a portal and insists for Clary to take the mirror and go. Jace grabs her and forces Clary through the portal. Dot has been left behind, again. She closes the portal and turns back to Jonathan, who has now approached her while holding a seraph blade. We don’t see Dot again, but we see Sebastian/Jonathan, who looks like he got away without so much as a scratch.

In a short summary: The first time we meet Dot she is used and casted aside for the gain of Jocelyn and Clary. The next time, she is offered an escape from Magnus, but refuses, and ends up captured and tortured by Valentine. By the end of the episode it is assumed that she is dead by the audience, and by 1x04, assumed by the characters. And thus for the rest of the episodes in season one, no one searches for Dot.

We see her again in 2a, and she’s been tortured and experimented on by Valentine. Clary does not apologize to her once, but rather asks her to sacrifice herself for her yet again. This results in her leaving Dot behind, as well as Gretel. Dot appears again as a tool for Valentine, and not much else. And when we see her again, she’s much worse. She looks like a walking corpse. She’s threatened, and is forced to help Valentine yet again. When she is finally safe, no one but Magnus appears to trust her, and are downright cruel towards her. After she’s considered useful to Clary and Jace, she’s forgotten.

In 2b, she appears to teach “Magnus” how to use magic again. In the next episode, she’s there to comfort Magnus, and is shown to try and kiss him, something that felt very out of character. Finally, we see her in the most recent episode (2x17). She’s in danger, and Clary, Jace, and the Clave all use her to get to the mortal mirror, resulting in Clarissa leaving her behind AGAIN.

The writers of this show don’t view Dot as anything more than a plot device. She’s not a character, she’s a tool. She’s used as Clary’s “get out of jail free” card in regards to downworlders supposedly liking her. She is used for Valentine countless times, even when he no longer has control over her. She is used by Jocelyn, even after she died. She is used by the writers so that Magnus can show that he would never cheat on Alec (a good thing, but something that could have been done with a different character, not Dot. That specific part of Magnus and Dot’s interaction felt unbelievably forced in my opinion). She is betrayed and left behind by Clary over and over, and it’s supposed to be seen as in character.

It is established that Dot is a survival character. With examples of Salem being brought up and proof in the show itself, and how she doesn’t trust anyone who has betrayed her, her trusting Clary makes no sense for her character. Clary hurts her and puts her in harms way 99% of the time that we see Dot. The one exception is 2x13. Something to bring to light is the fact that Dot goes to Clary of all people about the sigil on her arm in 2x17. Why on earth would she go to Clary first and not Magnus for a problem that is obviously a magic thing? I understand why she would need to go to her eventually, as she was kind of a part of the puzzle to the mirror, but to go directly to her? It feels out of character.

Another issue to be taken up which was brought up by @highwarlockkareena is that throughout 2x17, there is no one there to protect Dot. Sebastian walks in and openly sees the map because there was not a single guard at the door of Alec’s office. As Kareena mentioned, compare it to when they were arresting Meliorn back in season 1. The failure to protect Dot reaches all of the nephlim.

In a previous post I talked about how amazing the shadowhunter’s wlw rep is, and how I’m excited by the fact that Samantha is not a character trait for Ollie. But it would appear that Dot is a character trait for Clary. The writers are treating Dot like she’s another mortal instrument: a tool, one that everyone wants and eventually uses for themselves. She’s a character, a person. And I think it’s time that she’s treated like one (if she’s not already dead).

Introducing Fall Into Grace

(Book One of the Blood Oath Saga)

In the passenger seat of his truck, Uncle David said, “Tell me again.”

Tessa had told him four times in this trip alone. But she didn’t sigh, or complain. She knew better.

“Always have a coat. Keep your pockets full. Count your exits. Count your obstacles. Shelter first.”

Next to her, he nodded with each rule, just a little. Just enough.

“One pill in the morning, one pill in the evening. Don’t panic, ever. Use fire for vampires. Silver for monsters. Question everything.”

“Okay.” He finally put the car into park, the clicking of the gearshift sounding awful final to Tessa’s ears. “I’ll be back in November with your refill. You have a year here. Listen to what Esther tells you.”

“Yes, sir.” She wrapped her hand up in the strap of her backpack until the ribbed cloth was biting into the palm of her hand. “...I’ll miss you.”

“One year,” He repeated, as if she hadn’t said anything. “Check in November.”

“Check in November, one year before we leave.” She bit her lip and pushed the door open. Having already pushed her luck once, she didn’t wait for any kind of proper goodbye — which turned out to be for the best, given that her feet had barely hit the road before he was shifting and pulling away, letting gravity close the door for her.

Away from her uncle’s all-knowing eyes, Tessa took a breath and hunched her shoulders.

Check in November. One year before she left.

One year in Colorado. Then she could go back to Russia.

Surrounded by strangers in an unfamiliar environment, she fully expects to be counting the days until her uncle picks her up again. That is before she meets Selene Grace and her unusual family. Unusual in that they’re remarkably close-ranked, all living together despite most of them being old enough for college or work — and, of course, they are all very, very clearly vampires.

What stymies her, however, is that Selene is clearly not a vampire. Under strict orders to do no hunting while in America, Tessa instead dedicates herself to getting closer to the Graces in order to figure out what, exactly, is Selene’s deal.

When she finally does uncover the truth, however, she finds herself in the middle of a conflict much larger than she could have imagined — and much more personal. If she wants to save herself and these people she’s come to care about.
