UDLTTOM WORLDBUILDING RAMBBLE: MAGICAL CREATURES & THEIR GROUP NAMES

(pt. 1, pt. 2. pt.3, pt. 4)

This is a random thought, but you know how there are different words for different groups of animals. Like horses are called herds, whales have pods, wolves have packs, crows have murders, etc.

I think it would be interesting if the same could be said for magical creatures in the Harry Potter lore:

Like a group Thestrals I think should be called a Procession (as in funeral procession) because they’re associated with death and loss and watching someone die.

And a group of Phoenixes should be a Kindling because they’re constantly bursting into flames. 😂

Hippogriffs would be called a Pride because they would accept nothing less.

Thunderbirds should be called Derecho (fast moving wind/thunderstorm that occur often in the Great Plains of North America).

Unicorns should be called a Joust because the singular horn looks like jousting stick and males charge each other during mating season. 😂

Dragons would obviously have to be a Hoard.

A Demiguise would have to be called a Hide because they’re so good at disappearing.

And a Niffler has to be called a Robbery 😂 😂

And Trolls would be called a Cesspool because of their smell (which is rude, but very on brand for Wizards)

Boggarts would be a Terror.

Fwoopers (the bird thats song drives people insane) would be called a Babble. And non-stop babbling drives people crazy!

Crups would be a Scrounge because their scavengers and basically just little hyenas that look like Jack Russell terriers and are just as vicious. (Which puts a horrible spin on the Muggle-hunting with Crups if you know anything about how violent hyenas are.)

Basilisks I don’t think can exist in groups because I feel like the second they’d make eye contact they’d just kill each other. So a group of them would be a Boneyard because of the decomposed skeletons.

Runespoors would be called a Fork because of the 3 heads (i.e. 3 prongs) and how they can predict the future and see where there is a Fork in the road of someone’s life.

A Doxy would be part of a Massacre because they swarm like insects and their venom is deadly to any witch or wizard who gets bitten. And a group of Doxies settling in an area would lead to an entire village being wiped out in a mass killing.

And I know in canon a group of Bowtruckles is called a branch. But I propose that Briar would be a better word because if you mess with their tree, they attack you and try to gouge out your eyes just like briars have thorns that cut anyone who gets too close to the plant.

And Dugbogs would be called a Snare because they are ambush hunters & wizards who get to close will have them clamp around their ankle like a bear trap.

Also, I’m going to add that Ghouls would be a Ruckus because they bang on pipes when things are too quiet a group of them would make so much noise it’d sound like your house was being remodeled.

A Glumbumble is a bee-like insect that produces a honey-like substance which causes people who eat it to be lethargic and low-energy so they would be a Gloom.

A Kneazle would be part of a Jury because of their ability to detect and identify suspicious people.

And Grindylows would be a Gallow because they strangle their prey.

These are the only ones I can come up with on the spot. But I want to think about this and come up with a crazy long list. If anyone has any suggestions feel free to reblog this with them! I’ll probably keep adding to this list as I come up with more.

My Infertility Journey - Part 2

All endings are beginnings and vice versa. I wrote a post about Part 1 of my journey. After taking an appropriate break before jumping back in, ring the bell for round 2. Why did I do it again? It kind of felt like, I had another shot to give. The miscarriage took something of me with it, and honestly, I wanted it back. I know I risk losing more by trying again, but do I let my little girl in heaven down by giving up?

January 2022:

I did decide to get my booster before going to the appointment, at the appointment our doctor had expressed concern that he had seen a lot of covid related baby losses and was worried about me having taken the vaccine. To be fair to him, I did not ask him if he needed me to have it. I forgot one of the reasons I loved him, for being that doctor that dared to think about things differently. So while we did decide to wait for the next cycle (I have been regular the last couple of months, thank goodness) we decided to wait for the vaccine to take hold and not be so prevalent in my system.

We had a consultation with Dr Lee of Fertility Care. It was good to see everyone again, really its hard to understand how long it really had been since we had seen them. But man a lot of shit had happened. Dr Lee was just as perplexed as we were by the loss, and decided to run two tests: M2 cheekswab for both partners and a blood panel for the lady. One test was to check for a gene in either parent that would of caused a miscarriage, which both tested negative for. The blood panel test to see if the lady has issues with blood clotting. The tests together (outside of insurance) costs $1200. It is more expensive to be outside of insurance, but I love the people in the office. And its cheaper to shop around and try to go to other places to get the results...but I prefer to streamline it and see if this one last grab at answers doesn’t produce something. Pros and cons of the results: if I do have blood clotting issues, then we are not waiting for a cycle but I have to go on injected blood thinners. Great to get the process started but damn I would like LESS injections not more. Con....I have to implant knowing that I basically passed every test with no issues and have NO IDEA why I lost my first kid.

Also, I really wanted to implant 2 embryos to increase the odds of bringing home a kid, and to shorten the amount of time I am living this IVF life. Dr Lee explained that he wanted to implant 1 instead of 2, the odds were better. Really, at the end of the day...I am paying him, he is the expert. That worries me, from the point of view that I had 4 embryos and am now down to 3. But he is also open to implanting a mosaic embryo, which I believe we have 1 or 2 of. So hes not worried about embryos, we have enough. I don’t know that I could go through the process of making eggs again. He also did not feel, based on me being healthy, that we needed a surrogate. Pros and Cons of a surrogate, its a lot of money. I feel like, as a woman that has carried a baby, the connection is amazing. But, if someone else does the work... no injections, and by the time the surrogate gives birth you are full of rest and ready to start the 18 year journey. (Again I love this Doctor since he has been in the shoes of his patients for most of the processes he goes through with you).

February 2022:

Into February, I am awaiting a cycle (expected to come around 2/14...thank you universe) and waiting the results of the blood panel. I have also asked about pricing, to see what the difference in pricing between the implant only process and the egg creation/implant process.

March 2022:

So nothing was happening. It is so strange to think that I would have been normal for months before and then I tell my body its game day and it freezes. My body was STUCK in cycle, so they wanted to wait two weeks to see if my body dropped the eggs on its own? Towards the end of the month I contacted the office saying no change, and I went in for a follow up appointment. My body had dropped one of the eggs, not the other so we decided enough waiting. They put me on Birth Control (Enskyce) for 17 days. I warned them and asked for a low enough dosage of estrogen, as I get migraines if the estrogen is not low enough. Sure enough I was getting daily nauseous migraines for 17 days.

April 2022:

In the first week of April I stopped taking the birth control, I called to ask about the next step and they said it would take up to a week to get my cycle. So we get into the second week of april and boom, hello heavy cycle. So I call back and let them know my cycle had started and I made an appointment to come in a couple of days later. I went to the appointment and the doctor took some blood, based on results we would start the next day. Results were in our favor. Drugs were ordered, as until the end of April I would be on Dexamethasone (Pill) and EV (Estradiol Viol) (injection). Just before we would add more drugs to the schedule, hCG and P4 and Doxy/Medrol, we go back in for another appointment. Cost at this point are about $5,300 for the procedure and $650 for drugs. Plus I start taking the prenatal vitamins again: NAC, prenatal, omega 3, l-arginine, CoQ10, myo inositol, and d3.

May 2022:

In the first week of May, we should be scheduling the embryo transfer. A boy, and by the 3rd week of May a pregnancy test will confirm if it has taken. If it has taken, we are officially in the first trimester of Pregnancy No2. Here is what IVF users use to determine their due date: https://flo.health/tools/ivf-due-date-calculator (I used a day 5 transfer). Before the implant there is a massive shift in drug schedule.

AM: Dex (pill), P4 (injection OR crinone), Doxy (pill), Pregnancy Vitamins (pill)

PM: EV (injection), hCG (injection), P4 (injection), Medrol (pill), Baby Aspirin (pill)

We went in for the appointment just before the schedule jump. My uterus lining looked good, and progesterone blood test was good. Implant was scheduled for the following week, with a scheduled update call the Monday before the implant to inform me of implant time and when to take the doxy and medrol. After implant happens, I am going to be asking for approval to switch from injection p4 to crinone. When doing injections, especially heavier ones, one should ice the area then inject, massage, and then use heat. On the day of implant, I am being driven to Newport Beach by my partner and taking a valium one hour before. I am on bed rest day of and day after.

Implant went ok. Bed rest for two days was waaay too long for me. The first day I did not feel it (like I did more so the first implant), but the second day was kind of internally brutal. Highly suggested to make sure you have someone to make sure you rest, don’t worry about diets and what not, and momma to be can start to go into pregnancy mode once out of bedrest. So be mindful of certain diet restrictions, try to be active, sleep with a body pillow...all that “fun” stuff. I did get some approval to switch to one crinone and one p4 injection daily, by the time I was off of bedrest my left side of my ass was “no touch recovery mode” and my right side was getting ready to borrow the “no touch” sign LOL.

Trimester Schedule:

First Trimester: (Weeks 1-13) : 4/13-7/13

Second Trimester: (Weeks 14-27) : 7/14-10/19

Third Trimester: (Weeks 28-40) : 10/20-1/19

We went in for the appointment to get a blood draw pregnancy test, and it turned out my beta (hcg levels) were 100 something, so success so far! Next appointment was two days later, and we needed to see hcg levels double (they are supposed to double every two days). Two days later, it tripled. We also did the prental blood panel and testing of thyroid. Which is great, but also explains how the morning sickness and nausea and cramps are so damn bad. Next appointment to check beta was 6 days later.

June 2022:

First prental check up is in week 6, which is (based on my trimester schedule) the end of may/first week of june. I also plan on talking to the fertility doctor as if everything looks good, I would like to switch from the current schedule: crinone (am) ev (pm) p4 (pm)...to the following schedule: crinone (am) ev (pm) crinone (pm). I switched to crinone for both earlier in the process last time, and while it still is not known what made the last time not pan out, I am trying to hold out for as long as I can with injections. Injections continue 10 weeks past the confirmation, which the end of the first trimester into the first week of the second trimester.

You know the best laid plans of mice and men. In the last weekend of May/first week of June, we miscarried again. Besides the fact that I know enter an emotional time, this was a whole different experience. To differentiate, Luella was a threatened/missed and incomplete miscarriage, ending up in a D&C. Damien was inevitable and complete miscarriage. It is not that uncommon to miscarry, there could be something wrong that no one could fix or know was wrong. Ones odds of miscarriage remains the same between miscarriage 1 and miscarriage 2. It is from miscarriage 2 and miscarriage 3, they increase and it becomes a recurrent miscarriage. This complicates things for “theoretical” round 3.

But we need to talk about something else that is a real reality. There was a chance that this could turn into an ectopic pregnancy. Most women know about this, and if you don’t....don’t google it. It is frightening. It means the baby moved to a place it doesn’t fit, and if it stayed there you could lose the tube it was sitting in. Luckily, my beta (hcg) was dropping ok and my body was doing what it needed to to get back to normal. But for a hot second, I was terrified. I come out of this round with my health, and I am grateful.

I don’t know what is worse. Having to scrape luella out? Or taking damien out in my bathroom trash? Worse would of been losing a tube, so I guess it’s safe to say no outcome is wanted but it could of been worse. I miss my babies terribly. I am a spiritual person, I know my great grandparents are enjoying their roles as heavenly nannies. The big question, once the sadness subsides, is what next? Does one use the “s” word? (Surrogate)...Are there more tests that can be done? Is it worth it? I often come back to the question...at what cost?
