like jude said, someone did pick me up to take me to the bernabeu stadium, and i can’t believe i’m doing this. the venue is full of fans wearing either their real madrid jerseys or their sevilla jerseys. i can see men, women, kids, elderly people, they’re all here to have fun and support their favourite team and i have to admit that it’s a cute sight. let’s just hope that they don’t kill each other’s at the end of the match. i’m quickly escorted to the vip section, where friends, family and important people would seat for the game.

"oh my god, is that y/n?" a voice called from behind, i closed my eyes shut, fuck, and walked faster, i should’ve wore a mask to hide my face. if anyone picture me in this stadium with that motherfucker’s jersey on, it would end my career and i’m half exaggerating.

thank god, the vip section was secluded from the other people. the game started and i had to admit that it was fun to watch when you weren’t really supporting anyone. no stress, just having fun watching men run after a ball, just like dogs. jude was actually good, i never looked him up on the internet to watch his performances, i just knew he was the internet’s favourite whore and girls were thirsting over him. he was good looking, of course, no one could deny that, but more than anything he was annoying as fuck. i surprised myself, cheering for him when he scored a goal, what was wrong with me.

real madrid was actually leading the game with two goals against one. jude’s teammate passed the ball to him and he scored his third goal of the match. okay now, why did this motherfucker just point at the crowd, more specifically towards me? people turned around to see where he was pointing at, but thankfully they couldn’t see me. my heart definitely sank when he did that though, seriously what is wrong with this guy! it was a cute gesture, yes, but we weren’t dating and i promised myself to never date an athlete, tried it once and promised to never doing it again. jude was everything i hated in a man, he was reckless, cocky, full of himself and he knew he was hot. nothing worse than a guy who knows he’s handsome.

"how was i?" he asked, this big smile plastered on his face, i wish i could tear it off his face. "fine, i guess." jude made a weird face and put his hands on his hips. "fine? y/n, i was more than fine and you know it, scored three goals and they were all for you." he blew me a kiss and i swore i was about to knock him out. "yeah about that, someone could’ve seen me!" i said, slapping his arm, making him laugh. "darling, that’s what i wanted." okay, the way he was looking at me may or may have not made my heart skip a beat. "jude, i’m starting to believe that the fans gaslighted you into thinking we’re already dating." he laughed, making my cheeks heat up just a bit. "i just want to give the fans what they want to see." he shrugged and put his arm around my shoulders to start walking out of the changing room. i imediatly pushed his arm away and speed walked in front of him to hide my red cheeks. of course, the bitch was laughing at me, running to catch me and poking my cheeks to mock me. "aww, you’re blushing? i thought you hated me, darling." i put my hands on my cheek. "fuck you! it’s just hot in here!" "it’s literally minus two degrees, y/n."

The harsh reality is, that dating when you're both public figures is never a facile things; the whole world judges every move you make be it good or bad, each word you utter is twisted into their perception and you cannot risk to show any sign of vulnerability, luckily for them, they were able to dodge any tell tale signs, only ever referring to one another as 'close friends' which sparked irony given that they were the captains of the rival Madrid sides, her being Atletico Madrid's captain; him being Real Madrid's captain, and the pair both being assigned as co captains of the national team.

Their friendship had started rather comically, at a pre season event in which both the men's and women's teams were present, she wanted nothing more to ditch the entire thing, avoid any and all interactions as she was still recovering from a very public split with her ex boyfriend when of all people to collide into, she collided into him; despite her better judgement, the pair ended up chatting in a corner far away from the crowd, confiding in each other about their personal struggles despite barely ever conversing over the course of the years they've known one another.

The friendship had lasted for five years, private and barely ever visible unless they were seen during the Euro's and World Cup season; then, in the blink of an eye their friendship had slowly shifted into a passionate affair they'd both agreed to keep under wraps so as to not allow it to interfere with their careers, it wasn't facile given where they stood in terms of their clubs, sure they'd train together often yet had ensured that not a single human knew of the true nature of their relationship, he was everything she could have hoped for in a man, a real man; she was his source of light each time he felt the world was dark.

That evening, the pair were at his hotel room preparing to head to the Ballon d'Or ceremony as she'd been nominated for the women's Ballon d'Or whilst he was invited to present the award to the 2018 men's winner - as she was adjusting the straps of her dress, she hears his footsteps edging closer to the bedroom, she looks up through the mirror and smiles, he stood in the doorway dressed in a three piece dark navy blue suit. " You look handsome "

He beams, walking up to her until he stood behind her, he wrapped his arms around her waist then kissed her cheek. " And you look delicious, so delicious that I'm going to be distracted the whole night with the thought of being balls deep inside your pussy, mi amor "

His words manage to elicit a soft smile followed by a kiss from her, " I’m so lucky to have you in my corner "

" I’m always going to be in your corner " He grins, pecking her lips before adding. " Let’s go before I say fuck the ceremony and rip this dress off of you "

She giggles, " Alright, just … help me out with the zipper please " she turns around.

‘You minx’ He mutters before slowly lifting up the zipper the proceeding to leave a trail of hot kisses across her shoulder eliciting a whine from her, " I’m going I’m going " he sighs.

They finish getting ready, and were on their way to the ceremony separately so as to not raise suspicion; once they reached the venue, they were lead to the red carpet to pose for the cameras and as they were close to one another, a course of ‘SERGIO, Y/N … PICTURE TOGETHER’ rolls through the crowd as the pair exchange a smile before approaching one another to make it seem as if they met just now.

He leans close to whisper, " Still as sexy as the first time we met "

She smiled to the cameras before offering him a soft smile, they were lead to an overzealous reporter that looked on with a broad smile, " I am here with the very talented, Sergio Ramos and the lovely Y/N L/N … How are you feeling tonight? "

" I’m doing good, excited for tonight " Sergio grins.

" Same here " She nods.

" That’s incredible to hear, now Sergio you’re here to present the Ballon d'Or, how do you feel about that? "

Sergio smiles, " I’m honored, it’s not everyday that we can all gather together to honor the legends of our sports and I’m excited to present the award to whomever the winner is "

" Any guesses on who it could be? "

" I don’t know but I do hope that Luka wins " Sergio chuckles.

" We hope so as well, now Y/N you have had an impressive year yourself, being appointed captain of Atletico Madrid, winning the UEFA Champions League with Atletico, the Club World Cup, the championship and on top of that your accomplishments with Spain, the Euro’s and World Cup, how are you feeling so far? "

She exhaled a soft breath and giggles, " I am still in denial, from being a small girl in Mallorca to achieving all of this, it’s a wild ride but one I’m grateful for, regardless of the outcome tonight, I’m walking out with my head held high "

" And looking quite lovely might I add "

" Sergio, do you think Y/N is in the race? "

The second leg of the champion league semi final, you were away to Wolfsburg in the first leg where it finished 2-2, so you were excited for the second leg.

Which make it more exciting was that you knew your boyfriend Martin was going to be at the game with a couple of his teammates. You had met Martin when he signed on loan from Real Madrid. You would definitely say it was love at first sight.

You had arrived early at the emirates ready for the game. There was a couple arsenal players missing, Beth, Leah and Viv, which was awful, but you had to keep up the sprint.

You were in the tunnel getting ready for kick off, you were both nervous and excited. You had the chance to make it to a final.

When you were waiting to kick off you make sure to look up at your box to see Martin, Bukayo, William Saliba and Aaron, they were Martin teammates but they were also your friends.

You knew in a game like this you always wanted to get the first goal, which you got a goal from Blackstenius.

It was a tough game, you had tackles flying in. You were just trying to stay on your two feet, which happened for a while until just a bit before half time it went 1-1 and to make it worse you got tackled, you felt pain straight in your leg and felt a popping sound, you knew it was bad straight away. You weren’t sure what it was but you knew you were in pain.

You knew the medics were looking over you, but you were to focused on the pain in your leg. You knew some time had past as you were placed on a stretcher and taken off the pitch.

Your mind went black, the next thing you can remember is waking up in the hospital, you looked over to see Martin sitting on the seat next to your bed.

“Hey” you said not coming out well as you had just came out of a sleep and your throat was very dry “Hey how are you feeling?” he asked “Awful, what happened?” you asked “Well you got a bad tackle, would you like to find out what’s wrong with you?” he asked looking worried, you gave him a nod wanting him to continue “Well you had gotten an acl tear, thankfully you don’t have to get anytime of surgery, they said you just need to focus on your recovery” he paused for a second “It means you will be missing the world cup” he said looking guilty.

You did feel your heart break, you couldn’t believe it, you were looking forward to the world cup, you had gotten the call up and were ready to show the world your skills and now you won’t have that chance.

“I’m sorry love” he said coming down to the same level as you were at, he brushed your hair out your face “It’s ok” you said trying not to be too upset, why get worked up over something you couldn’t help, it had happened and you couldn’t do anything.

“Did we win?” you asked after a couple minutes of silence’s “No i’m sorry it needed 3-2 you guys went to extra time and they won it late on” well your night could get worse apparently “Well my night can get worse” you tried to make a joke of it. “I’m sorry my love, are you comfy? Can i get you anything? Water? Food? Blanket?” you could tell he was in panic mode “Can you cuddle me?” you asked hoping the answer was yes, you looked at his face to see his reaction and saw a little smile come on his fave.

You moved over on the bed to give him some space so he could climb in, which of course he did.

You had to stay in a little longer and Martin stayed by your side for the whole time.

yourusername Gutted to say that i’m done my acl, it’s hard to take right now but i’m already ready to start my recovery already. Sadly it rules me out the world cup which is heart breaking, it’s hard to take right now and i’m being using the time to focus on my mental health.

I’m part of the girls sadly it wasn’t our time and we will be ready for next year.

Hi, of course 🫶🏻

The Super League is a rather complex topic, so I'm gonna give you a short summary and a longer version with the history and stuff under the cut.

In short, the Super League is a proposed football competition for football clubs in Europe that is aimed to rival the UEFA competitions, such as the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League.

Format (this is the new version they just released):

It would include 64 men’s (spread across three leagues) and 32 women’s teams (spread across two leagues) playing midweek games in a league system across Europe. All clubs would play in groups of 8 – home and away – resulting in a guaranteed minimum of 14 matches per year. At the end of the season, a knockout stage of 8 clubs will be played in each league to determine the league champions. There would also be annual promotion and relegation between the three/ two leagues. The idea is that it would not interfere with domestic leagues.

History:

Proposals of Super Leagues in European football have been around for decades with the earliest ideas dating back to 1968. There were attempts to create a 'Super League' in 1987 and 1990 but they were abandoned after UEFA and FIFA threatened to sanction all involved clubs. In 2009, Florentino Pérez (president of Real Madrid) began planning a 'Super League' because the Champions League, in his words, was too "obsolete and problematic for the quality of the sport and an obstacle preventing clubs from growing their businesses and developing infrastructure." That idea resurfaced in 2020 when big clubs started suffering financially from the Covid-19 pandemic and ongoing debts. That got American investors interested who pledged US $5 billion towards its formation. In January 2021, FIFA and all six football's continental confederations (AFC, CAF, CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, OFC, and UEFA) issued a statement that rejected the formation of any breakaway European Super League and that they would ban any club or player involved from any competitions organised by FIFA and its six confederations.

Current 'European Super League':

In April 2021, Pérez announced the formation of the 'European Super League' (ESL) via a press release signed by twelve clubs that signed up to be involved (Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspurs, Inter Milan, Juventus, AC Milan, Atlético Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Real Madrid). The aim was a new competition that "provides higher-quality matches and additional financial resources for the overall football pyramid, provides significantly greater economic growth and support for European football via a long-term commitment to uncapped solidarity payments, which will grow in line with league revenues, would appeal to a new younger generation of football fans, and also would improve VAR and refereeing." Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Juventus were the three leading clubs. There is much more to the financial aspect of it (like solidarity payments, welcome bonuses, participation payments, commercial revenue, etc.), but that's rather complicated and depends on what newspaper you wanna believe.

Reception:

The announcement led to a joint statement from the governing bodies of the Premier League, La Liga and Serie A condemning the formation, with all governing bodies declaring to prevent the ESL from proceeding any further. Football governing bodies from Germany, France and Russia released similar statements. UEFA reiterated their statements made in January 2021, warning that any clubs involved in the Super League would be banned from all other domestic, European and world football competitions and that players from the clubs involved would also be banned from representing their national teams in international matches. (The Premier League and their governing body FA ruled out barring the six clubs from domestic competitions and preferred to not take legal action.) Numerous politicians expressed their opposition to the proposal of the ESL. Amongst commentators, footballers and managers, the ESL sparked contrasting opinions. Media companies were mostly opposed to the idea (which does not come as a surprise as ESL promises free viewing of all live matches). Many football fans, including the fans of the involved clubs, were not in support of the idea of the ESL. The backlash led to nine clubs (all clubs, except FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Juventus) announcing their intention to withdraw from the project in April 2023. However, eight of these nine clubs remained involved as stakeholders. In June 2023, Juventus announced their decision to leave the Super League project after facing a rumoured 5-year ban from all European competitions if they went through with the project. (That only leaves FC Barcelona and Real Madrid)

Legal issues:

In May 2021, the Super League filed a complaint to the Court of Justice of the European Union against UEFA and FIFA for their proposals to stop the competition. UEFA had opened disciplinary proceedings against FC Barcelona, Juventus, and Real Madrid, which were threatened to be excluded from all UEFA competitions, in order to sanction them but these measures were stayed until further notice as a result of the rulings from the Spanish commercial court and Swiss authorities. In June 2021, the Swiss Department of Justice and Police and the Spanish Commercial Court referred the issue to the Court of Justice of the European Union to question whether UEFA and FIFA have violated two articles of the Treaty of the Functioning of the European Union. Article 101 prohibits cartels and other agreements that could disrupt free competition in the EEA and Article 102 aims to prevent businesses in an industry from abusing their position or taking action to prevent new businesses from gaining a foothold in the industry. On 21 December 2023, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruled that FIFA and UEFA's rules, which banned clubs from joining rival competitions, such as the Super League, are contrary to EU law. UEFA's and FIFA's rules making new football projects subject to their prior approval are also unlawful.

What does the ECJ's ruling mean:

The ECJ's ruling is binding and not subject to appeal. The ECJ's decision on UEFA's rules does however not rule on whether the Super League should (or is allowed) to exist. UEFA needs to change and clarify its rules now to comply with EU law. Once the regulations are updated, the Super League will still need to acquire authorisation to set the competition up. The ruling basically gives companies like A22 the right to pitch a new football competition and for their application to be judged on criteria which are "transparent, objective, non-discriminatory and proportionate".

Revival of the project:

In December 2023, A22 announced a new, updated proposal (which I already explained under format). However, many clubs have issued statements opposing the idea (including clubs, who were once involved in the ESL). As of right now, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and SSC Napoli have issued statements in support of the ESL. There are reports about various clubs from Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and other European leagues who are keen on joining (but no official statements from the clubs).

Why could Barça and Real Madrid receive €1 billion?

I believe this has not been confirmed by A22, but it has been reported by various newspapers. They would receive €1 billion as a reward for their loyalty, as they are the only two clubs who remained firm on their decision to take part in the Super League. That would obviously only happen if they find enough teams to set up the ESL.

The women's transfer window in January is very busy at the time so Here we go

West ham are busy during the window they signed the Australian and Matildas Midfielder Katrina Gorry from the Swedish side Vittsjö meanwhile Canadian international Shelina Zadorsky on Loan from Spurs until the rest of the season the both of them will join Kristen Mewis who is recently join the Hammers in December from Gotham.

Also, Spurs are in a double swoop on this window where two former Vittsjö players the Matildas Star Charlie Grant and Swedish International Matilda Vinberg from Hammby.

Aston Villa had signed the Swiss international right back Noelle Maritz from Arsenal for a two and half deal.

Bristol City has signed a goalkeeper Shae Yañez from NWSL side San Diego Waves on a disclosure deal.

Chelsea are closing a deal on the Everton centre back Nathaile Bjorn will she be going to Merseyside to West London and now deal is done and now she is now a Chelsea player for a two year contract.

Entracht Frankfurt had announced the signing of the Japanese forward Remina Chiba.

Some white girls are being insecure that women can be faster than average and better than other white players... like lol it's not Chawinga's fault that a part of her genetics is to be athletically stronger and faster than yall.

Besides, men can't play with women, I thought we all knew that lol. They get medical tests and hormone check ups, which was an issue with the Zambian striker when she was about to sign with real madrid and they found out her testosterone is too high (she was born female though which sucks because she couldn't even sign for Real anymore).

Just say you're mad an African woman is humbling you lol. This is also the same thing with Mayra (i know shes not african), they look at women of color like animals or men because they aren't their defintion of pretty or want to use their money on things like beautifying themselves. When you make a comment on male player's looks they come up with the 'but but... he's a football player not a model' like yeah? She's not here for you to stare at, she's here so you can watch her play.

All of this!! This happens in EVERY sport and we're tired of it, leave the women alone.

You weren’t much younger than him, maybe like 4 or 5 months. You first saw him when you went to support the men’s team play against Real Madrid. You always enjoyed watching the men play. I mean of course you enjoyed the women’s too but the men got in fights more frequently and a part of you found it entertaining. You had saw him walk out with the team for pre match training. He was wearing the home kit and he had the number 30 plastered on his back. You knew who he was but you’ve never seen him in person before and man did he look majestic.

That game was the game you drew your first drawing of him. It was a drawing of his smiling after the win against Real Madrid. He was adorable but you’d never admit that out loud. He had tons of girls roaring for him and you didn’t want to me caught up in social media drama.

Fast forward to now. You had went home for the day to finish your artwork. You knew something was missing but didn’t bother pondering over it because it must’ve not been important enough to remember to take with you.

Gavi was headed off the pitch when something caught his eye. A notebook? A sketchbook? He didn’t quite know what it was till he got closer. It was left on one of the bleachers. As he approached it he concluded it was a sketchbook. He knew he shouldn’t be nosey but his curiosity got the best of him. He grabbed the sketchbook and took it with him to the locker room.

As gavi sat down on a chair he pulled out the sketchbook again. When he opened it he was already amazed. There were drawings upon drawings of players and camp nou. He was impressed to say the least. he kept flipping through the pages, taking in every detail the pencil had created until he stumbled across one picture.

A picture of him.

He was flattered but confused while also impressed. Whoever the artist was really showed off her skills for drawing. She got every detail of him. He looked around for a name. Any hint to who may have drawn it. He finally found a name at the back of the sketchbook

“Y/n Y/l”

He said to himself.

He didn’t know who you were, you were new so not many people did along with the fact you were very introverted. He decided to go ask Pedri, Pedri knew everyone from the women’s team to the men’s.

Gavi shut the book and headed back out to the field. He looked over the field and spotted pedri. Gavi then began to jog in his direction calling out for him.

“Hey hermano!” Gavi yelled towards pedri.

Pedri looked at gavi with a questionable look.

“What’s up? Is something wrong?” Pedri asked gavi, confused as to why he came back out onto the field.

“Yeah everything’s ok I just wanted to know if y/n y/l rang a bell to you.” Gavi explained.

“Yeah she’s apart of the women’s Barca team, she hasn’t been here long but she’s really popular around the world and she’s your age, why?” He explained before asking.

“Oh no reason anyways do you think she might still be here? She left something behind and I thought I’d might as well give it back.” He explained, hoping Pedri would have an answer like he always does.

“I don’t know, go check or ask alexia or someone, they’d probably have a better idea.” He told gavi.

Gavi nodded before going to find one of your teammates. He in fact did find alexia but as soon as she said you left already a frown covered Gavi’s face.

“Here let me give you her address.” Alexia said before writing it on a piece of paper.

Gavi mentally praised her for the help before heading over to your house. When he has arrived he was shocked by how big your house was. You don’t post it over social media because you don’t like the thought of people know what your house looks like in the odds some weirdo would find it. Gavi swallowed a little hard before walking up and knocking on the door. When nobody answered the first time he knocked one more time. This time a woman answered.

“Hello sir how may I help you?” The slightly elder woman asked.

“Hey is y/n home? She left something at the training grounds and I wanted to return it to her.” He said with a friendly smile across his face.

“Ahh yes, she’s in her art room, go straight down the hall then to the left.” She smiled back before letting him in.

When gavi entered he was astonished by how pretty and clean your house was. You had marble flooring that was shiny and lots of artwork covering the once bare walls. He lingered a little bit admiring your house before reaching the doorway of your art room. He heard music. Bad bunny? He thought to himself.

He opened the door and peaked in. You were to engulfed in your art and dancing that you didn’t even hear the door open. He saw you there, dancing in a pair of pajama shorts and a baggy shirt that was covered in paint. He couldn’t help but smile at the sight. He even giggled a little when you started pretending the paintbrush was a microphone as you sang the lyrics into it.

He leans against the doorframe, admiring you. This was the first time he’s ever even saw you and he knew, you were the most gorgeous girl he’s laid his eyes on. Minuets passed and you heard shuffling between your song change, you turned around and shrieked. You didn’t expect Pablo Gavira to be standing in your house, let alone the doorway to your art room.

“Sorry if I scared you hermosa.” He said to you with a big grin.

You stood in front of the painting you were working on. It was of him and it embarrassed you to think about the fact he probably already saw it.

“Uhh…n..no it’s ok, um how did you get in here and why?” I asked, mentally cursing myself for stuttering at the presence of a man.

“A woman let me in, I came to return this.” He said, handing out my sketchbook to me.

Fuck I hope he didn’t go through that.

“You drew a really nice photo of me, it was impressive.” He complimented me.

Fuck.

“Wow nosey much.” I responded jokingly.

“Thank you though, I knew I forgot something but didn’t bother to check what.” I told him with a thankful tone.

“Of course. What are you painting now?” He asked trying to peak over you too see.

I quickly stood even closer to it to block his view.

“Nothing…” I said with a shaky voice.

I don’t want him knowing I have like an obsession with making art of him.

He walked closer to me causing me to back up with every step he takes closer to me. He grabbed me by my waist shocking me to the point I didn’t even comprehend that he managed to move me away from the painting.

“Woah.” He said as he admired the painting of him.

“I swear I’m not some umm weirdo it’s just you’re really appealing to make art of.” I said trying to find an excuse as to why I’ve been doing so much art of him.

He turned in my direction, our faces super close now.

“No it’s ok I find it really cool if I’m being honest.” He told me. I could feel his hot breath fanning my lips.

His eyes flickered to my lips that were slightly parted then back to my eyes.

“This may sound weird but can I kiss you?” He asked me. I was in utter shock. I just starred at him before I subconsciously nodded my head. With the confirmation I felt his lips, the lips I’ve been painting and drawing since the day I first saw him play, the lips I thought about almost every night, the lips I pondered wether or not would be soft or dry, on my lips. It felt like heaven, it didn’t feel real.

I kissed him back, my arms snaking around his neck as his pulled me closer to him by my waist. We kissed for what felt like weeks until we pulled away to catch our breaths.

“I don’t know what you’re doing to me, we just met and I think I’m already hooked. You’re beautiful…” he told me.

“You’re like art to me.” He said starring into my eyes. I starred right back into his and told him one last thing before kissing him again.

“You are art to me”

Just some of the records broken in women’s football so far this year:

UWCL

PSG v. OL broke the attendance record (43,255) for a women's club match in France.

Barcelona v. Real Madrid set the attendance record (91,553) for a UWCL quarter-final.

Barcelona v. Wolfsburg set the attendance record (91,648) for a UWCL semi-final, while also breaking the ("official") world record to become the highest attended women's football match ever.

Wolfsburg broke their home attendance record against Barcelona in the semi-finals with 22,057 people in attendance.

The UWCL final between Barcelona and Lyon saw a record-setting live cumulative viewership of 3.6m globally.

Sonia Bompastor became the first person to win the UWCL as a player and as a coach.

EUROS

England v. Austria had an attendance of 68,871 making it the highest attended opening match in women's Euro history.

England recorded the biggest win in Euro history against Norway (8-0).

England broke the record of most goals scored in a first half (6 goals against Norway).

England broke the record of most goals scored in the group stage (14 goals).

Beth Mead broke the record of most goals in a group stage by a single player (5 goals).

England equaled Germany's record of fewest goals conceded in the group stage (0 goals).

England equaled Germany's record of most different players scoring in a single game in their game against Norway (5 goals scored by 5 different players).

England v. Sweden recorded the all-time biggest crowd (28,624) at a Euro semi-final.

Germany v. France recorded the all-time biggest crowd (27,445) at a Euro semi-final not involving the hosts.

Alex Popp's goals v. France were Germany's 100th and 101st goals at the Euros, the 1st side to net 100 goals in the competition.

Alex Popp became the first player to score in 5 matches in a row.

England v. Germany set the attendance record for a European championship (men and women) with 87,192 supporters.

England's victory over Germany got a peak TV audience of 17.4m on BBC making it the highest UK audience for a women's football match.

An average of nearly 18m people watched the Euros final on TV in Germany, a record for a women's football game in Germany.

Beth Mead became the only English player to win the Golden Boot and Player of the Tournament at a senior Euros or World Cup.

Sarina Wiegman became the first coach to win with 2 different nations in the Euros.

Sarina Wiegman became the first coach in history to start all games with the same starting xi.

The total attendance at the Euros was 574,875 which makes it the most attended women’s Euro tournament in history.

AFCON

The semi-final Nigeria v. Morocco delivered a record-breaking attendance of 45,562.

The final Morocco v. South Africa broke the record for most attended WAFCON match with around 50,000 fans.

South Africa won their first AFCON title with their win over Morocco.

NWSL

Angel City played in front of a sold-out crowd of 22,000 for its first regular season match, setting a record for highest attendance for an expansion team.

The NWSL's 10th season kicked off with a record 10,000 fans per game, beating the previous mark from 2016.

Sue Bird and Eli Manning join Gotham FC ownership at record $40m valuation.

In the Portland Thorns v. Gotham FC game on July 17th, Portland led 3-0 at the 10:13 mark, the fastest from kickoff a team has scored three goals in NWSL history.

The latest NWSL TV ratings, when the games are put on CBS and not hidden on Paramount+ are impressive, far more so than MLS TV ratings in 2022.

BONUS FACTS

Brazil defeated Colombia to win their record 8th Copa America title.

The three highest attended matches in European football in 2022 have all been for women’s matches.

For the first time, men’s goalkeeping errors exceeded those of women’s in the English league. In the WSL, across the whole of the 2021-22 campaign there were just four goalkeeping errors that led to goals. Compare this data with the men’s Premier League and the numbers show that at 2%, men were twice as likely to concede due to a goalkeeping mistake in the 2021-22 season than women in the WSL at 1%.

The last time England won a major trophy was in 1966 when it was illegal for women to play football. In 2022, the England WNT brought football home by winning the Euros.

2023 BALLON D'OR WINNERS

2023 Men's Ballon d'Or: Lionel Messi

The notorious Argentinian went on to win his EIGHTH Ballon d'Or on the 30th of October at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, France. The host, Didier Drogba, presented him with the award for the 3rd time.

He was also honoured for all of his activism in reducing racism within the sport after his most recent racial attack during a match between Real Madrid and Sevilla.

The reader is a footballer who makes a breakthrough to the men's football because of her talent, and she is constantly told she is the next Ronaldo. However, she gets a lot of hate and is constantly underestimated until she proves herself in a game against Barcelona (she plays for Real Madrid). Thank you so much for taking the time to request this! It’s quite long so I understand that it took a while. However, I’m going to politely decline. The reasons are as follows:

1. This is a request for what would be a multi-part series, and I’m currently in the middle of a series, and have other ideas for other series that would come before this one.

2. I personally don’t like writing about “integrated” football (aka girls playing on boys teams). I think that it diminished the importance of actual women’s sports, because it portrays the idea that once a woman gets good enough she can play with men.

3. I don’t do any instagram/ twitter type things in most of my fics, so it’s not something easy for me to incorporate.

There are also several other authors on here that have written similar stories, so I think they would be better suited to them. Heartbreak seemed to become something akin to a shadow companion for Y/N.

To the public she was Y/N L/N, everyone's lovable IT girl with an illustrious career in singing and acting - she had everyone's heart with her welcoming personality, polite, soft spoken and faces every thing head on with as much strength as she can, that is if she was not feeling the pressure of having every detail of her life plastered out for the world to see, several doomed relationships had unfortunately overshadowed her accomplishments so much so that when people hear her name, they simply remember her as the girlfriend of this actor, or that singer, or simply, the girl that dates too much.

And that transmits to her careers, her film roles are too tacky, her songs are basically a pathetic attempt at gaining popularity over supposed 'virtuous men' seeing as in the entertainment industry, women were forever dubbed as calculated snakes while any kind of man is free of sins and can do wrong.

The pressure had taken such a toll on her that she had stopped accepting film roles, had ended up taking a hiatus from music - opting to become recluse and not speak to anyone until she felt better again, she'd started going to therapy and would step out in elaborate disguises to avoid being recognized by fans which had unfortunately did not work leading her to make the impulsive decision of moving to Madrid, Spain - and looking back at it, it was the best decision she could make.

Y/N had purchased a home in the heart of Madrid, living somewhat of a more calm and reclusive life; thankfully she had a friend in the form of singer Aitana who'd taken the pleasure of showing her around the area and introducing her to the delicacies that Madrid had to offer, one of which being - Real Madrid.

Y/N had a limited knowledge when it came to football, simply falling under the umbrella of a casual viewer however it didn't stop her from enjoying the matches with Aitana, they'd frequented several matches and unbeknownst to her, she'd actually managed to capture the attention of the club's number one defender, yet fate hadn't given them a chance to meet at all, until three weeks later.

Y/N was checking her emails, answering only the important ones when a certain email had captured her attention causing her to frown in confusion, she'd been invited to visit the Santiago Bernabeu and meet the team, she had to blink twice in order to absorb what she had just read - that prompted her to phone Aitana and inform her of the news to which Aitana excitedly told her to respond and go, as according to her ... it'll be fun for her to learn more about the sport, and perhaps meet a new man. The latter phrase earned Aitana a snarky comment from Y/N.

And so she did, she'd picked out a casual yet stylish outfit consisting of a pair of leggings from her collaboration with Adidas and an oversized floral printed t-shirt, her Adidas sneakers coupled with her hair braided into two dutch braids, they sent her a driver that safely got her to the Santiago Bernabeu where she was welcomed warmly by the staff members that lead her around and right out to the pitch where the players were training in preparation for their match today.

Y/N introduced herself to everyone there, with a few players expressing admiration in regards to some of her roles as well as her music, and amongst those people was none other than Sergio Ramos - he introduced himself and had charmed his way into convincing her to sit tonight in his box, much to her surprise - she'd agreed, not thinking much of it up until the match.

Real Madrid were going up against Getafe, and with Y/N not having such a deep understanding of the sport; she resigned to sitting silent most of the time until the match ended with a win for Madrid's side, it was after the match that took her by surprise as Sergio approached her, with as much grace and softness that contrasted the aggression she saw on the pitch earlier, " I hope you don't take this as me being forward " he begins with a smile, " but would you like to have dinner with me? "

While she didn't want to admit it, especially since she had a less than stellar track record with men that shattered her heart entirely, instilling a fear inside of her which had caused her to turn down lots of men before Sergio, she reluctantly accepted his invite, in hopes of telling him that she isn't worthy and that he'd be better off with someone that is not troubled by her past, yet she was taken back entirely by how persistent Sergio was.

Y/N was definitely troubled, yet Sergio was adamant; he'd heard of her, heard of the disgraceful men that had harmed her - and it only served to fuel his desire to prove to her that he can be the right man for her.

They neared three years into their arrangement, as she liked to call it - she was still in a limbo state, and surprisingly; Sergio had been more than understanding, he'd spend time with her, never once pressuring her into uttering those words, much less take their relationship into the next level, he'd even went as far as to publicly defend her against the media after she had received a ton of backlash for dating Sergio with some stating that she'll end up making an album about him.

Sergio had been so patient with her, so much so that it had definitely tugged on her heart and had her write an entire album for him, yet it wasn't in anyway related heartache, rather an album that served as away to showcase what she truly felt for him - what she failed to convey with words every minute she spent with him.

That evening, while she was deep into working on the last details of her album; Sergio returned home, " Amor, what're you doing? " he asks as he'd noticed how secretive she'd been over the past few weeks.

Y/N smiles, " I created a surprise for you " was all she said before guiding him into the living room to sit on the couch, she then grabbed the guitar, " I wrote a song, well composed an album but you get it, and one of those songs is my message to you, for showing me what true love is, for protecting me and loving me the way that I am "

Sergio smiles, " amor, you didn't have to "

" But I want to, so listen .. " Y/N began to strum the guitar strings as she began to sing out the lyrics of her song Lover, an ode to the one man who never judged her when the world did, an ode to the most gentle soul that shielded her and helped coax her away from the darkness, this was more than a song, it was how she wanted to say what she struggled to say all these years.

" Amor " Sergio whispers, " This was amazing "

" Yeah? " Y/N smiles with tearful eyes.

Sergio cradles her face, and kisses her lips. " I love you so much "

" I love you to, you're my lover " Y/N giggles.
