The Promise
Content Warning: Romantic Themes
There is a knock at my window. Soft, yet still echoes through my chamber. I pull myself from the bed with haste, striding towards the window. The floorboards creaking beneath my bare feet. I open the window, unlatching the cold metal lock that kept it closed.
Alis perched below the windowsill. Having used the overgrown vines to scale the palace wall. Moonlight illuminating his golden hair and his ocean blue eyes were deepest in the dark of night. A playful grin painted on his face.
"Princess," he sang.
"What are you doing here?" I plea.
"I had to see you before the joust tomorrow." He leans into the open window. "Are you not happy to see me?"
"Of course I am, but come inside before anyone sees you, Alis." I beg.
Moving backwards into the room. Beckoning him to follow, I knew we were vulnerable at the window. Anyone could see him hanging on to the vines that trail up to my window. It would be dangerous for someone, anyone, to find out about us.
With one swift push, Alis springs through the window, landing with a quit landing. striding over to me, grabbing my hands and giving them a reassuring squeeze. His warmth is a welcome sensation against my skin.
"You should be more careful," I tell him, looking into his eyes. "Someone could see you climbing those vines."
Alis grins. "I've done this before. No one has ever seen a thing." He leans in closer, his warm breath tickling my ear. "Besides, I had to see you."
I take in the dim, candlelit room. The four-poster bed is imposing and grand with rich, red velvet curtains. A wooden dresser stands against one wall, adorned with carvings of lions and roses. A small writing desk sits beside a window, with an inkwell and quill set atop a lace cloth.
I lead Alis over to my bed, summoning him to sit next to me. His presence fills the room, making it feel both intimate and alive. I can feel the energy between us, palpable and almost tangible. I must be mad at risking my father's wrath.
"I wish we could run away together." I utter, my voice a whisper.
Alis turns his head to face me, a small smile playing on his lips. "I have a plan, my love." His hand finds its way to my cheek, tracing the line of my jaw. I close my eyes, reveling in the feel of his touch.
"What is it?" I breathe, my heart racing.
"I'm going to win the joust," Alis whispers, his eyes searching mine for any sign of doubt. "I will do anything and everything to make myself a desirable match in the eyes of your father."
My heart swells. "I believe in you, Alis. I know you can do it." I reach up, interlacing my fingers through his hair, pulling him down to me for a gentle kiss. His lips are soft against mine, and I can feel the heat of his breath on my skin. It's intoxicating, addicting.
The feel of his strong arms around me makes me forget about the danger we're in, the consequences of our actions. I want to be with him, no matter the cost. I press my body against his, savoring the warmth and the strength that emanates from him.
I hear footsteps outside my chamber. The sound of voices echoes through the hallway. My heart pounds in my chest. Must we part ways? Alis pulls away from me, his eyes never leaving mine.
"I will see you tomorrow, my love," he whispers, his voice barely audible over the commotion outside. "I will win this joust." His fingers graze my cheek one last time before he stands, turning to leave.
"Be safe Alis!" I beseech him.
He turns back to me with a reassuring smile, "I will, my love." His voice is strong and confident, but I can see the worry in his eyes. He leans in once more, brushing his lips against mine in a chaste kiss before disappearing out the window.
I run to the window and watch as he climbs down the vines, his movements sure and steady. He disappears from view, and the room feels empty. I close my eyes, trying to will him back to me. My heart is a frantic mess, racing with fear and anticipation.
As I sit on the edge of the bed, lost in thought, I hear the door to my chamber open. It's my lady's maid, Lina, her hands full of folded clothes. She glances around the room, her expression disapproving. "My lady, you should be in bed. You will need to be up early for the joust."
I force a weary smile. "I know, Lina. I couldn't sleep." I pull back the covers and hop into bed.
"Well, if you need anything, my lady, call for me." Lina bows before exiting the room, closing the door behind her.
I roll over onto my back, staring at the canopy above my bed. The room is cool and quiet, save for the gentle creak of the wooden floorboards as someone passes by in the hallway. I try to calm my racing thoughts, telling myself that everything will be alright. Alis will win the joust, and we'll be together. We have to be.

Right Place, Wrong Time.
I had been been on the run for many a year, lonely days and lonelier nights...
I decided to go into the nieghbouring town after settling into my new hideout, far enough away that I wouldn’t have any trouble, I was unknown in this town, I had no name, no past to haunt me... Or so I thought.
It was quiet at first, a normal town full of normal people, calmer than any I had visited in earlier days to my surprise. I had hoped to lay low during my visit- however the Gods were never so kind. Like any other place with a cellar full of liquor, there were fights- terribly fought fights but fights nonetheless.
There was one fight in particular, not necessarily a violent fight- but an interesting one. It had caught my attention faster than a bullet flying past my face, a grown man decided to pick a fight with a fight with a fifteen year old boy, about thirty years behind him in age (yet apparently thirty ahead in maturity) because he had walked into the boy and spilt his damn drink. But it wast the forty five year old fool that snagged my attention, it was the boys response to said fool, he looked him in the eye and said ‘’ You’re drinking to forget how much your kids can’t stand you- but you’re a bigger snob than people thought huh’, the nerve of the lads tongue was rare. I loved the coal behind it.
The drunkard turned into a pot- steam coming from every hole in his head. His face red with rage, knowing the lad was right, he had been spoken to like a dog. He clenched his fist and raised it- Now this is were my hopes of laying low were thrown out the window. Before i realised what i had done, the drunkard was on the floor flabbergasted. Meanwhile I had no idea how I had got myself involved, nor what i had done, I told the onlookers to get back to there day. The drunken coward scurried off in shame, as I went back to my seat to grab my belongings - the young lad grabbed my sleeve. For having such a sharp tongue, with one close look at his face I could tell he was scared of where he was. He didn’t say a word, but I knew what question lay behind his clouded eyes. I grabbed what little I had and put my hat back on, holstered my gun and threw my bag over my shoulder.
I motioned for him to follow, which he did so without hesitance , as I left the saloon. I took the reigns of my horse off the fence and jumped on. The boy looked at me , obviously confused, I put out my hand and helped him on the back. He gripped onto my back stronger than any grown man could, as we rode to my hideout I asked him where his parents were. He stayed silent for a moment, I had been answered with his silence, he only confirmed it saying ‘’ I don’t know, they didn’t want me’...
The rest of the ride had been silent, the sun setting as we neared my temporary stay. When we arrived I hopped off and helped him down, he was shaky from the ‘fight’ even if it was many hours ago. I showed him the way, were we couldn’t be seen. I motioned for him to sit and passed him a canteen, ‘’ You’re dehydrated, drink what you need’’ I said in response to the obviously confused look he was wearing.
We sat in silence for a few moments, he then asked me in a nervous manner ‘’ w-why did you bring me ?’’ , ‘’ You wanted me to did you not ?’’ , he looked shocked ‘’ h-how did you?-’’ , ‘’ your eyes asked me, they are a window kid.’’ A few more moments and he asked why I just took him instead of leaving, I waited for a moment before answering ,’’ If you turn down a soul who asks for help, you’re no worse than the fancy powder-puffs with badges’’ I paused ‘’ now sleep over there’, I gestured to my bed, ‘I’ll be fine on the ground.’’
I awoke before the sun could brighten the horizon, I strode towards a large rock and sat beside it. While I watched the horizon begin to shine I loaded my guns and sharpened my knives, I looked up and saw the horizon in an amber glow...The sight would never age.
The boy began to stir , I realised I didn’t even know the kids name, should probably change that.
As he stirred I could see him instinctively checking his surrounding, smart , however I don’t think its something he was taught. I grabbed him an apple and a canteen, ‘’here, keep you healthy’’ I stated , he took them off me but he was still groggy, ‘’strange kid’’ I thought to myself . His attitude in the saloon, like I had guessed, was a very convincing act to any normal civilian. However to me it was painfully obvious.
He decided to sit with me after getting changed and finishing what i gave him. ‘’You’re really smart, but you only seem a little older,’’ I smirked and replied ‘’that’s because I am.’’ He tried to hide it, but I saw his smile. ‘’ Why did you intervene as you did, you had no reason to’’ he then followed up with ‘’you’ve never actually said why,’’ I had to stay in silence, to come up with a real answer for the kid.
-- She stayed in silence for a moment, The young boy anxiously awaiting the real response he had craved for. She then spoke , she stated the words as facts. As though if you didn’t already know you were an idiot.
‘’Because your soul said you were scared, even if everything external said otherwise. I said before the eyes are a souls window, the day I turn down a souls request, will be the day I condemn myself to Hells Inferno and walk through its gates.’’ The boy asked why, she stated ‘’No soul is different. Some are more tainted than others yes, but not by the soul of the person itself. But by the body it inhabits.’’
The boy looked at her serious yet relaxed face, he took her words to heart, he understood her words and their meaning.
‘She had an interesting perspective, and she made him think about things differently.’

Unlocking the Mystery: Secrets Behind Loopholes Documentary Origin
🎥 I've just released our first YouTube documentary, "Unlocking the Mystery: Secrets Behind Loopholes." Watch it here: Harshad Mehta and Vijay Malia scam
Your feedback would mean a lot! 🌐🗣 Let's support their journey. 🚀👏
If legislative amendments, regulatory updates, collaboration, and other measures are not effective in addressing or closing a specific loophole, it may indicate a more complex or persistent issue. In such cases, further considerations and strategies may be explored:
Independent Audits and Reviews:
Conducting independent audits or reviews, possibly by a third-party organization, can provide an unbiased assessment of the situation. This may identify specific challenges and propose alternative solutions.
Comprehensive Legal Reform:
If the existing legal framework proves insufficient, policymakers may consider more comprehensive legal reform. This could involve a holistic review and restructuring of laws to ensure they are clear, effective, and aligned with current needs.
Public Advocacy and Awareness Campaigns:
Engaging the public through advocacy and awareness campaigns can build public support for regulatory changes. A well-informed public can influence policymakers and create pressure for addressing identified issues.
Whistleblower Protections:
Enhancing protections for whistleblowers who expose misconduct or exploitation of loopholes can encourage individuals within organizations to come forward with information that could lead to effective enforcement.
International Cooperation and Agreements:
If the loophole involves cross-border issues, fostering international cooperation and agreements may be necessary. Collaborative efforts between countries can harmonize regulations and minimize the potential for regulatory arbitrage.
Continuous Monitoring and Adaptation:
Implementing systems for continuous monitoring and adaptation to emerging challenges is crucial. Regulatory bodies should remain vigilant and be prepared to make adjustments as needed to address evolving issues.
Consultation with Legal Experts:
Seeking advice from legal experts, scholars, and practitioners can provide insights into the legal intricacies and potential solutions. Legal expertise can help craft effective and robust regulatory responses.
Strengthening Enforcement Powers:
Empowering regulatory bodies with enhanced enforcement powers, including the ability to investigate, penalize, and prosecute, can act as a deterrent and ensure swift action against those exploiting loopholes.
Collaboration with Industry Associations:
Engaging with industry associations can facilitate cooperative efforts to address challenges within specific sectors. Industry expertise can contribute to the development of practical and effective solutions.
Political Will and Leadership:
Political will and leadership are critical in driving regulatory reforms. Leaders who prioritize and champion the need for closing loopholes can help overcome resistance and facilitate the necessary changes.
It's important to recognize that closing loopholes can be a complex and iterative process, requiring a combination of legal, regulatory, and social interventions. Persistence and adaptability are key when addressing challenges within legal frameworks.
