something about how the puzzler is depicted with a cane. something about how the only main actors of colour are cast as rats. something about how the queer identities of actors are erased, except for a gay man who is ridiculed for his sexuality. something about how showfall media treats its marginalised cast. something about how generation loss so horrifically reflects the stereotypes and ropes assigned to the queer and disabled and racially marginalised in past films and series. something about how we are still facing bias and discrimination in the modern live streaming industry

I'm surprised by the lack of popularity of Imodna. Don't get me wrong, the ship is popular, but it could be more.
These days, I was thinking about wlw/mlm representations, and it's just crazy how a majority of people seem more enthusiastic about mlm ships. I like mlm, but why would people prefer it? I don't understand the "love is love, but mlm > wlw" logic. I'm saying that because I'm pretty sure that if imodna was a mlm ship it would be waaaaaay more popular. When you search on AO3 (Critical Role) there are around 8353 mlm fictions and only 5434 wlw. Why?
It's like with powerful male characters vs powerful female characters. I mean if Philippa was Philippe, a powerful and morally grey gay sorcerer, I'm pretty sure he could be a top 5 fan favorite characters of the Witcher fandom. Same for sooooo many fictional characters. You only have to switch the gender to change the fandom perception of a character/ship.
Yeah I'm really random tonight but this thought was stuck in my brain and I had to write it down somewhere.
No offence to mlm or male characters btw.
Why am I thinking about that at midnight.

The way people in the west talk about gay asian media is so awful and demeaning like yeah the norm is unrealistic porn and there is a lot of abuse apologism . This is also true of western media 👍

Watching a few people give stupid criticism over Gen Loss that makes 0 sense, from being annoyed that not everyone’s a perfect actor to being annoyed that it isn’t Hollywood level stuff.
I also saw someone say “ I can’t suspend my belief because that’s not how online media works” no my dude that’s how fictional media works
when you watch a movie or show you suspend your belief for the sake of enjoying it
It’s the same for watching online horror content, like locks 58 or Walten Files or Mandela Catalogue. A lot of those have elements that wouldn’t make sense in the real world but it’s not the real world, it a fictional one with horror and paranormal elements, you have to suspend your belief to enjoy it
If you wanted high budget stuff, then don’t want indie content online, and certainly do not complain about it that’s so stupid
Im not saying it’s perfect but like if your complaint that Ranboo ( who funded his passion project on it own like any other artist typically does) doesn’t have the large budget to create something you’d find in the movies, I have to wonder if you respect indie creators at all
I also wonder if we watched the same thing and I midly get concerned with the way we consume media online a little

i really think we need to talk about how, in part, content creators are showfall. genloss created a distinct separation between the creators and those who control the show, but irl? that distinction is a whole lot more muddy.
all of the decisions that creators make about content, the bits that they choose to do, the personality traits that they choose to minimize or emphasize in front of the camera, those decisions aren’t (normally) made by some abstract third party. showfall media is creators choosing to become the people we see them as, to embody the traits that we assign to them, because we find it entertaining. yes, the audience has a lot to do with it. the characters that creators play are not chosen arbitrarily, they’re chosen to entertain us. but when creators overuse bits, or use voices that are almost cartoon-like in how exaggerated they are, or begrudgingly participate in trends that make them miserable (chika dance, anyone?), there’s no evil megacorporation forcing them to do so. there’s no mind control or programming. the decisions that creators make to appease the audience, just as showfall does, are their own choices.
maybe i’m reading into it too much, but i feel like this makes the real-world implications of genloss even more horrifying. how must it feel to be your own villain?

my strawberry film is a poignant mystery show about high school crushes and unrequited love. yes. there were queer characters. but the rabid BL fans and their uncontrollable need to see gay men in everything ruined my entire watching experience. every week there would always be someone new asking "is this really a BL?" how DUMB do you have to be to not immediately recognize that it's NOT a BL after the first 2 eps. it's really just portraying this group of teenagers dealing with their early life crises.

Watched the first ep of Love Senior. I'll be honest this might be a binge for me instead of a live watch.
It's not really the fault of the show x se. It has more to do with my hangs ups then quality (even if the pilot was very fast paced, like way too fast).
I understand that GLs are just starting, which means they are going to start in the same place BLs did, but I am not going to lie the mix of 2 moons and Sotus energy this show has is not doing it for me. Plus as someone who struggled throught Sotus because of the Hazing aspect it's exponentially worse with girls (all my bullies were girls so this is just a little too triggering).

Cat's Cradle is getting AO3 updates again!
Heyo! For the holidays I'm updating the rest of Cat's Cradle's backlog to AO3 every few days; this shouldn't be anything new to people who have followed my blog since spring/summer, but to the AO3-only readers hopefully this is a nice lil holiday treat <3
--
CH 14: Two weeks
It occurs to Percy, with great delay, that he’s in a heap of trouble.
This may or may not be in regards to the cat currently wedged behind the toilet.
Curio has been in Vex’s bathroom for a grand total of twenty-seven minutes. The only reason she has not spent all that time in her current hiding spot is because it took her a solid ten to find the courage to leave the cat carrier and bolt for cover.
Percy isn’t sure he has much of a heart to work with, but whatever is in his chest is beating painfully for the poor thing. Her pupils are blown wide behind her wincing eyes, thankfully drugged out of her little mind. Thank gods for that - Percy had caught one look at the stitches and nearly swallowed his tongue.
It’s one thing for the vet to tell you they’re amputating a leg, another to see the result. Something striking, about how easily such a huge part of her anatomy could just be… gone.
There’s more to it, of course: Curio’s middle is also shaved, stitched here with a neat incision that Percy was told would dissolve on its own. She got spayed while she was under anesthetic, which - good, it will hopefully make it easier to find a home for her, too.
She’s also, as it turns out, on several medications for the next ten days.
[Ch1] [Keep reading on AO3!]

yeah ok i saw all the castlevania: nocturne announce posts and as much as i want to be a pessimistic little turd about it after the shitshow the first series was, i can't help but notice a good number of these are coming from folks working on the show itself.
so in honor of not completely trashing what is a real human's honest effort to make something worthwhile before it's even out the gate, i'll just say maybe i'll be watching it and hopefully it'll be enjoyable.
the fact warren ellis isn't involved solves like 95% of the problems already lmao
