Okay, RWBY theory time. If Ruby is confronted with her younger self in the caterpillar’s smoke clouds, who’s to say that Blake, Yang, and Weiss aren’t having a similar experience? What if, in order to become big again, they need to show that they’ve matured? What if they’re all confronted by versions of themselves from their early beacon days for whatever reason? Say, versions who were struggling to figure out why they wanted to become huntresses around a certain campfire in Mountain Glenn?
In the smoke, Blake is confronted with her younger self, uncertain of how to undo so many years of hate and injustice, and now she can tell her younger self that it’s not just up to her, but if she looks around her, she’ll find many people who are willing to fight that fight, and she doesn’t have to carry that weight by herself. Maybe she couldn’t turn Adam away from a dark path, but she and her family convinced Ilia and other Faunus that there is a way to fight back against prejudice that doesn’t involve violence. That results in saving lives. And even when things go wrong, she won’t need to feel like running away all the time, and if she does, well, she knows there are open arms waiting to welcome her back. Maybe a particular set of arms, of which one is yellow.
Weiss confronts a version of herself worried about living up to a family legacy, and although she may feel at first like that legacy is gone along with the rest of Atlas, she realizes that the legacy isn’t just up to her. (Wait a minute, this sounds like something I said in a previous paragraph…) Although her father’s actions are still a sore spot for older Weiss, she can tell her younger self she successfully stopped him from messing up more lives when she had the chance. And once the rest of her family was out from under Jacques’ control, they all acted in ways that made her proud, and now she realizes that family is about more than legacy, that she can do good not because she is tied to the Schnee name, but because she is who she is: she’s Weiss. And her family values her for that. Her family being team RWBY as well as Winter, Whitley, Willow and Klein. As a huntress she can do more for them, and more with them, than she could as a Schnee. (Although the company perks almost helped…)
Now, Yang might meet a younger version of herself who still has both arms, who’s not thinking too much about tomorrow, who’s just in it for the adventure. But an older, more harrowed Yang, down an arm, reassures her young, naive self. Things got a lot harder than just, “go with the flow, you know”, but she made it through. And now she knows that not having any expectations and just seeking thrills were ways to avoid thinking about the things she had lost, or never had, ways to fill an emptiness inside of her that reflected her insecurities and self-worth issues. Sure, she still doesn’t quite know what tomorrow will bring, but she does know that her team will be there, and that they’ll always try to help others, so they don’t have to have a missing mom. Some things are better off being certain. Tomorrow used to bring a certain kind of loneliness in its unpredictability, but not anymore. Maybe some things should not stay uncertain. And when she gets out of the smoke she’ll look at Blake with that fond look and make the audience melt (and Blake blush). Don’t worry there will be more clouds to help you confess your damn feelings! Ahem, sorry about that.
Lastly, Ruby, at her lowest, most uncertain, down on her luck, and depressed, meets a younger version of herself, who was so sure, so set in her path, who was already a huntress at heart. And now, when Ruby is questioning herself, her own actions, and her worth as a huntress, her younger self asks her, “what are you gonna be?” And our Ruby won’t know how to answer. She will feel like she’s not a huntress, she’s barely Ruby Rose, she’s just a girl. How does she move forward? How did she end up so far from this hopeful girl she was in the past? A long string of failures have led her here. And Ruby can tell her past self nothing. She either breaks down, in the safety of the clouds / hallucination, or bottles that feeling up to come back to at a later time. Maybe she’ll find it in herself to say, “I don’t know. I don’t know what I’m going to be. But I know that I am going to do whatever it is I need to do to get out of here.” Not learning the lesson, but refusing to stay still. There will be time to learn that lesson later.
Anyway, that’s just what I think will maybe not happen, but wouldn’t it be cool if some of it did.

Wants and Shoulds
I’ve been thinking about that talk Weiss, Blake and Yang had in Mountain Glenn. Y’know, this one.
Tumblr media
To summarize, they were starting to wonder if the paths they’ve chosen for their Huntress careers were the right ones. Yang wants an adventure, Blake wants to fight for equal rights, Weiss feels she needs to restore the Schnee family’s honor. The segment indicates that these personal desires are in fact selfish, and that what they should be doing is “helping people”. And while there’s nothing wrong with helping people...
Tumblr media
It’s clear that the Schnee Dust Company’s corruption plays a big role in the suffering of the people. From the first Volume, it is established that the company  is definitely in deep muck, and it’s overwhelming monopoly over...everything... plays a huge role in why things go bad for most of Volume 7. But by reconnecting with her mother and brother, Weiss was able to set into motion the changes that should restore her tainted family.
Tumblr media
And then, there’s the White Fang. As much damage as the SDC and Atlas was doing to the Faunus, the White Fang’s response did not actually help the division, and some ways, actually gave the humans an excuse to keep putting on the pressure. As much as some people see saving Haven as helping the selfish humans, I should point out that it’s probably better for Faunus to stop other Faunus, and the act gave them the stepping stone to force the humans to seeing them as equals.
Tumblr media
And finally, Yang. While Yang’s stated dream seems the most selfish, she does have an additional goal of wanting to find the answer to her mother’s disappearance. And it’s clear that her entire family is so wrapped up in Oz’s Anti-Salem Racket that learning more is crucial to figuring out the true dangers of the world. And on another note, as moments from Ren’s flashback to the Brunswick Farms legend that not all towns can benefit from the protection of Huntsmen, who apparently charge more than they could afford. Just like in the beginning of Volume 4, these places could have used a powerful wanderer to blow by...
Well, that my Not-Ted Talk. BYE, Y’ALL!!!

Maggie Gyllenhaal's Jaw-dropping Oscars 2023 Acceptance Speech Goes Viral - Find Out Why
Tumblr media
In 2023, executive producers of the show Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner stopped with that nonsense and finally leaned in on what the Academy Awards should all be about: A celebration of the year in cinema.
This is not a new phenomenon. We said in our 2016 review that producers seemed to forget about that celebration of movies.
In 2020, just ahead of the global shutdown, for the 92nd Academy Awards, we said the ceremony featured funny and memorable moments, but that it didn’t always pass the logic test: Most of the ceremony moved along smoothly with no host, but I can’t help wonder if a Master of Ceremonies would bring some well-needed glue to create one cohesive show.

That whole scene was a parallel to Mountain Glenn in v2. Except that back then, Weiss, Yang and Blake were the lost ones, while Ruby was the one who was sure of who she was and wanted. Now, Weiss, Yang and Blake have found themselves... And Ruby is the one who's lost and confused.

The way that we’ve just come full circle since Mountain Glenn…Weiss, Blake, and Yang being the ones who are sure of who they are and what it means to be a Huntress while Ruby’s the one struggling to find herself. And it’s in part because they’ve been challenged on what it means before.

It's kind of depressing when you realize out of Team RWBY, Weiss is the only one who get's constant development. Ruby doesn't get any character development until maybe Vol 4, and it was still sporadic at best. Yang and Blake got some good development up until Vol 7 where it feels like if it didn't involve Bumblee, then they didn't get anything (And in some cases you could argue going backwards...). So, this might be my bias talking (Weiss is best girl), but Weiss is the only one on that team to me that got anything in a constant enough rate. Only time I think she didn't develop was in Vol 9, but that was Ruby's time to shine so I'm not really upset with that one.
Yeah, when you think about it, there really wasn't much character development for any of the supposed "main characters" of the series, especially since they're also the titular characters.
Ruby's character development was like a David Cage game of Beyond: Two Souls, showing us Ruby's highs, lows, lows, lows, and LOWS of her character development, all before circling back to a HIGH just in time for her series to get canned. It's a sad sight.
Blake's character was centralized on the White Fang. She was in the White Fang until she left, then she finds out the White Fang are up to something in Vale to the point that it exhausts her, then she helps stop the White Fang in Vale and Mountain Glenn, then Yang was framed, and Blake thinks she's becoming Adam again, then the White Fang attack Beacon and Adam cripples Yang so she runs away to Menagerie to protect Yang and everyone she knows and learns the White Fang are up to something in Menagerie until she breaks everything up in Haven. Things go right for Blake overall until Adam shows back up and she and Yang murder him with no consequences. It is from this point that Blake's character arc with the White Fang ends and her entire character now becomes Yang's girlfriend. I've said it before and I'll say it again; Blake is the worst girl of Team RWBY.
Yang's character trait is that she has no character trait. None that's ever properly established. She's Ruby's sister and/or mother figure, but hardly interacts with her. She likes to party and get into fights, but we don't see her do either. Her mom is a bandit, but we don't know if Raven really loves Yang or not. She lost her arm to Adam, but she didn't really learn anything from that whole experience; again, nothing that we can see. And now Yang's character is Blake's girlfriend. I put Yang higher than Blake only because what story COULD be told isn't just the same story over and over.
So, now that I've gone over some issues of the others, let's talk about Weiss' character arc. Weiss is physically scarred by a trial set by her father in order to get into Beacon, and once she arrives, she's an uptight spoiled brat who expects to be handed the position of Team Leader. After she's humbled by Professor Port, she steps up as Ruby's second-in-command. She's pursued romantically by Jaune, whom she rejects outright multiple times until Neptune shows up, whom she romantically pursues until he starts flirting with other girls in front of her, though Jaune helps Neptune ask her to dance, and from there she and Jaune are on better terms as friends (which can be seen in V3 when he calls Weiss after getting out of the locker Pyrrha shoved him in). During V3, she's approached by her sister and financially cut off by her father. After the Fall of Beacon, she's forced to return home and is basically put in a sort of Brittney Spears house arrest, where she's only allowed out by her father to do whatever he wants her to do (I think that's what happened, I'm not really aware of what exactly happened during the whole "conservative house-arrest" thing from a few years back), until she escapes and is then captured by Raven until she's rescued by Yang. They then go to Haven and reunite with Ruby and Team JNR, and once Blake comes back, Team RWBY is back in full swing!
Okay, I think that's enough to make the point, but I do want to bring up something that is going to piss people off, because of course it will. It's about Weiss' likely endgame ship, White Knight. I said before that RWBY doesn't know how to do romance, but... Looking at the character developments of both Jaune and Weiss and they just somehow start leaning closer and closer, contrary to how they started out. Like, I know I'm not the only one seeing two characters with full-developed characters starting to get closer, so how is it that BMBLB sucks so hard with their story if it's the canon flagship?
Don't believe me? Think about what I was talking about with these characters. Do you know what the biggest difference is between the stories of Weiss and Blake and Yang? The answer is that Weiss actually has a story. Blake and Yang just are just... two halves of one whole. Weiss is completely independent of Jaune, and yet they both managed to grow without each other. I'm no relationship expert, but if you're relying on another person to have a character arc, that's not a healthy relationship- That's codependency.
Oh, but what do I know? I'm just an idiot on the internet who makes incorrect quote posts. My opinion is invalid and should be tossed out and disregarded. Tata~!

Box-topz of fame.
After Ruby and Yang went to go catch up, Neo and Jaune walked through the halls, trying to find their lockers.
Jaune: So, I can't believe Yang's sister is the same girl I helped out of a crater, small world.
Neo: 'Hmph.'
Jaune: Oh? Is someone a little jealous?
Neo: 'Me? Jealous? Of whom?
Jaune: Ruby, afraid she is gonna steal little sister Yang from you?
Neo rolls her eyes.
Neo: 'as if I have anything to worry about'
After that, it was just menial chit-chat about the layout of the area, Roman hadn't messaged them yet, so outside of finding their lockers, they could do nothing but wait.
The pair finally approached their locker, but in front of it was that same white-haired girl and some red-headed woman as well, and from the looks of it, the white-haired girl was trying to convince the red head of something.
Jaune looked at Neo, who just shrugged.
Jaune: Uhm, hi!
Neo: 👋
Weiss: And how may I help you two? Can't you see I'm trying to get my partner for the year?
Neo: Crabby bitch...
Jaune: Sorry, it's just you're in front of our lockers.
Pyrrha: Oh, our apologies.
Her and Weiss moved out the way as Jaune and Neo moved right up and opened their lockers.
Weiss: Excuse me, but don't you know who we are?
Jaune: Uh, potential students of Beacon?
Weiss: No, you dolt! I am Weiss Schnee of the Schnee dust company.
Neo just rolled her eyes as Jaune just raised an eyebrow.
Jaune: I think I heard of the company, but YOU? nah.
Weiss: Hmph. Well, maybe the Schnee name hasn't reached your back of the woods.
Neo: I hate her.
Jaune: Oookay?
Weiss: At least do you know of THE Pyrrha Nikos?
Pyrrha just waved awkwardly, not happy about having her fame put out their.
Jaune looked at Pyrrha and shook his head.
Jaune: Nope. Not a clue.
Weiss: What!?
Pyrrha just looked at Jaune with a small smile.
Jaune felt Neo give him a nudge before pulling out her scroll and showing him something.
Jaune just gasped.
Jaune: She's the mascot for pumpkin pete!?
Pyrrha sweat dropped.
Jaune: Ma'am let me tell you how many box tops I had to use to get this sick jacket.
He pulled off the Pumpkin pete jacket and showed it to Pyrrha.
Jacket itself wasn't out of the ordinary. Black and white zip-up denim jacket with two rabbit ears on the hoodie itself. Pumpkin Pete's bunny logo in the center. It was worn with some distress, and it had some little stitching patterns symbols, but Pyrrha wasn't sure what the symbols meant.
Jaune: Good to meet you cereal lady!
Neo just giggled as well as Pyrrha, who was happy to be referred to as something else other than 'Invincible Girl'.
Weiss: NO! This is Pyrrha Nikos, a 4x time mistrial champion!
Jaune: oookay? Anywho, it was nice meeting you, Pyrrha. Let's have a good four years, eh?
With that, Jaune and Neo made their exit as Pyrrha waved goodbye at the pair while Weiss just hmmp'ed .
-
Roman whistled as he stood infront of a large tower.
Roman: Ozpin, Your student has returned, I bring the destruction of Beacon! Heh I always wanted to say that!
Smirking as he spun his cane around Roman, he looked at the top of the tower.
Roman: I know you're hiding something... and I'll rob you of it like you robbed my family of Mt. Glenn.
Roman then went to go find his team.

No, but like, HOW COULD THEY DO THIS TO ME?
It's a redux of Mountain Glenn but Weiss, Blake, and Yang have found the answers to their questions, but Ruby, who Yang said always knew she wanted to be a huntress, doesn't know anymore.
I'm so overwhelmed I keep laughing because I want to cry for such conflicting reasons.

I kind of feel like it's really funny when people are like "Ironwood was always set up to be a villain from V2-" which it's true that there were indications that he might fall to villainy but that absolutely does not mean that the actual fall was written well. Or people say "Ironwood actually was evil from his first appearance in V2" and then like...
The reasons they give for why they think Ironwood is evil or could've been evil are things like:
"He was put in charge of security during a sporting event!!!"
"He told the Vale Council about how Ozpin's choice in sending a group of teenagers without a full year of training to Mountain Glenn didn't work out that well!"
"He responded to a potential threat to a city by bringing extra soldiers to help with every indication that it was cleared by and even wanted by the Vale Council, and he didn't read the show script enough to anticipate that someone who was supposed to be dead would hack the non-sentient robots he brought in to try to make less human lives at risk!"
"He didn't immediately succumb to everything Ozpin wanted without even considering that Ozpin might be wrong, and instead he had to think about it and get advice from Glynda before he decided for himself whether or not he thought Ozpin's idea of getting Pyrrha to be the next Fall Maiden was a good idea!"
"He said 'if you were one of my men, I would have you shot' to Qrow! What's that? The mains are physically aggressive with themselves and others up to pointing their weapons threateningly at Qrow for stepping forward and saying hey and Weiss pointed what was essentially a loaded gun in the face of an unarmed underage teenage civilian for the crime of not immediately springing to the side to let her into his house and therefore threats of physical violence within the context of RWBY can't be used as proof of anything unless we assume that all the main RWBY girls minus Ruby herself are destined to be evil villains? And also Ironwood later proves that he wouldn't try to hurt Qrow even if he was well justified when during the Fall of Beacon he wouldn't go all out against Qrow in a fight despite the fact that Qrow was acting like he was fully going to attack him? None of that matters!"
"He wouldn't let Yang continue to compete in the Vytal Tournament and doubt the evidence of his eyes and the eyes of everyone else and the on screen evidence of Yang attacking Mercury and he didn't just assume that Yang was manipulated by the semblance of a secret Salem agent into thinking something that wasn't true, and he empathized with her instead of just letting her do whatever she wanted!"
It's like.... What do you mean? Ironwood is no more 'always destined to be a villain' or 'already evil' than like the majority of the good RWBY characters, including Weiss, Jaune, and Yang specifically. He's no more 'always destined to be a villain' than Qrow or Winter. And again, whether or not he was set up to potentially become a villain in the future, that doesn't mean anything about whether or not his fall to villainy was well done. This is literally the most common thing people do when people complain about Ironwood's fall to villainy being badly done, is insist that Ironwood was always set up to be evil and listing these stupid ass reasons as 'proof' when it actually doesn't even apply to the conversation at hand anyway. He could have the world's best villain set up, but it wouldn't make the actual fall to villainy good or convincing when they rushed it and fumbled it.
