Walking alongside someone through something difficult is a form of doing good. The word encouragement has the word courage as a base. Walking along someone going through something difficult is a way to give them some of your courage. Susan’s mother invited her to a pre-op doctor appointment for a lumpectomy this week. Thankfully her Mom’s cancer was caught early and is slow moving. “Why switching off notifications, switches on happiness?”
Happiness Simplified. Simple Solution to keep your mind at peace in this stressful situation. Stay Safe and make the most of the time in hand. 
We pickup smartphones to call/search/check status etc. and suddenly we see some new notifications from WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter & other apps. We check them, reply to some, forward some, like some, ignore some, and we put the phone down.
Then we remember we were supposed to call/search/check status etc. and we take the phones in our hand again and then there are more notifications waiting maybe upcoming sales and limited time offers which are about to expire!
We live in a world where “Breaking news” happens to take place practically every hour!
A politician’s tweet to a film stars gym outfit, everything becomes breaking news. We have so many breaking news that our mind is confused between what is new and what is actually relevant. All this breaking news become notifications on our Smartphone and once it is in our notification panel, even if we do not click it, it grabs our attention and enters our thought process.
Notifications are now a days in the form of questions as incomplete sentences. Does antibiotic cure corona virus? You try to search something on Google, and you encounter Google cards. You get news and updates based on your search history and we all scroll through it.
Some enthusiast even add what they like, to make it more customized and we feel what’s wrong in this? I am getting everything I should know at one place; its authentic and it’s free. Everything you should know? No! You only get to choose the category. What is shown within the category is Google’s choice not yours. Authentic? Hardly… Google is an information aggregator. It shows what’s on the website, not what’s authentic.
Free? NO! Your time and attention are the biggest price you pay …. unless you yourself do not value your attention and time.
Any well-educated person knows that there is nothing free in this world. Initially, internet giants like Facebook and Google traced what we see, liked and targeted the advertisements. Now, they actually try to control what we should see and what we should like, so that it makes commercial sense for them. So, what is the solution? We definitely cannot live without Social Media, Google or mobile apps. We like it or not, they are an essential part of our lives.
I suggest a simple solution. Deny notification permission to all apps apart from SMS and email (Because email and SMS notifies you if someone has hacked your bank account!) Deny all Google cards. This way you will be able to pay attention to what is really important and relevant to you. Search, read, like, post… what you actually want to. It will make you calm, composed and happy. If you can do this successfully for a few days, you will suddenly realize that you don’t feel the urge to check your phone every now and then, because it’s notification which makes you do that.
In fact, you will be seeing cute face of your child or grandchild more often than cute star baby pics. Pushed down our thoughts (in this case, eyes)
Lastly, try this. Check your phone only if you are with no one and not when someone is with you. And your life will be at a new level of fulfillment and happiness. What if I miss what’s happening in the world? Well 80% of the world doesn’t know that you exist and 19.9% doesn’t really care about you. Remaining 0.1% for whom you matter are around you waiting for your attention and you are busy reading those notifications…. Think about it!
