I have no leg pain at all???!! That's literally insane!?!! And no one commented on my cane, only the teacher asked what it was for and I said bad knees. None of my classmates cared?!!! Other regular people didn't care!!?! It's amazing! I felt so much more confident!!

Bro I once had a guy in theater tell me how canes are supposed to be used and I wish I could retroactively “Um actually” him. Because bro you don’t even use one first of all, and second of all there is no ONE correct way to use a cane.

So long as it’s proving you support and is more comfortable to use than without then you are doing it right. And also it can completely change based on if your hips, knees, or ankles are what needs the support.

Trouble bending at the hip or knee? Try using it on the same side as your “good” leg so you can swing the bad one around without having to bend it as much.

Stability issue, or problems with joints buckling? Maybe use it on the same side as the “bad” leg so you can stabilize it, and avoid having to put as much weight on it while taking a step with the good leg.

Like I’m not saying this guy didn’t need or wouldn’t have benefited from having a cane he dislocated his knees and then kept dancing on them (Multiple Times) because musical theatre kids are dumb and reckless. But at the time and as far as I know he never used one, at least not in the theater sometimes I think about that. Idk if it’s just a me thing or a neurodiverse thing but I hate being wrong and having wrong information and always want people to provide me with better more useful information so when I think back on moments like that I’m frustrated that I didn’t have better information then to provide.

The idea that someone would willingly choose to use a mobility aid without actually needing it due to being "lazy" is really absurd to me because of the amount of work and physical energy needed to use aids that people just do not think about.

If you use a cane, you now only have ONE arm to do things like hold bags or open doors--how many trips do you want to take to bring groceries in again? If you use 2 crutches, or a walker, guess who doesn't have ANY hands free? Manual wheelchair user? Guess who has a horrific time getting food from cafeterias or restaurants because you only have a lap? Oh you have to drive somewhere? Time to think about storage and whether you have the energy to lift your aid out of the car unless you had the thousands of dollars to spend on a ramp! Electric wheelchair? Time to not be able to go out unless your chair is charged, also btw the space underneath manual chairs has been replaced by battery/components ;). Oh no! A tall curb. Time to make a 10 minute detour. Time for your upper body exercises so you can even move in things like manual chairs or crutches for any extended period of time and/or up any sort of incline. Etc.
